John Lee, a professional hired hitman, is commissioned by chinatown crime boss Terence Wei to murder the young son of policeman Stan Zedkov. When Lee fails to complete the mission, he seeks out an expert forger Meg Coburn to obtain a passport he needs to get out of the country. Soon the duo get caught up in a series of life threatening events with a band of replacement killers on their trails.

* AntiVillain: He is a hitman, which makes his actions morally questionable by default. But he ends up helping and saving a couple of people out of guilt.
* BadassInANiceSuit: John, at the beginning of the movie.
* ChildSoldier: John stated that he was born a soldier. And that he was trained by his father since he was a young child how to shoot a gun.
* CoolShades: John, occasionally, at the beginning and at the end of the movie.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: His two main issues that got him tailed by two assassins was that he couldn't complete the last assignment that was given to him due to his conflicting conscience. Which is revenge and [[WouldntHurtAChild killing a child]].
* HitmanWithAHeart: John. The man has no problem committing murder for hire, but killing an innocent kid is beyond him.
* HisNameReallyIsBarkeep: When John first arrives to Meg's office looking for a counterfeit passport to go back to China, he says the name he wants for the passport is "John Lee", which Meg says is [[MrSmith the fakest name she's ever heard for a false identity]]. Then she meets Alan, and he tells her that John's name ''is'' "John Lee".
* HonorBeforeReason: Not only does Lee seek to ensure his family's safety, but also to keep the cop and his son from getting killed by Wei's replacement killers.
* LeapAndFire: Lee performs many different maneuvers while fighting to survive, including this one.
* MarkedBullet: John's calling card. If he sets one on the table in front of you, kiss your ass goodbye.
* OneLastJob: What John's assignment [[spoiler:to kill Zedkov's son]] was supposed to be.
* OneBulletLeft: John's last bullet in the final fight is his MarkedBullet. He uses it on Wei with a nice PreMortemOneLiner.
* ReturningToTheScene: He comes back to Meg's office after the criminals and the police raided and riddled the place with holes. Just so he could get his passport.
* SuggestiveCollision: He pins Meg down to his bed dominating over her with his gun pointed to her head. While she lays submissively out of fear.
* WouldntHurtAChild: Leads to John's inability to complete his assignment.

Meg Coburn, a skilled forger, is first introduced with Lee seeking her out for some forged documents. She eventually gets caught up with John as they both flee their lives from hitmen gunning them down.

* ActionGirl: Meg. Possibly a DarkActionGirl, given her career choice.
* CatchPhrase: Meg's "I didn't think so."
* CuteBruiser: Despite being small compared to the other BigBruiser male hitmen around, she manage to put up a decent fight. Even injuring and killing some of them. She even sarcastically retorts to policeman Zedkov saying:
-->'''Meg''': "You really think a light-weight like me did all that damage?".\
* DamselOutOfDistress: John's hostage holds her own against the bad guys.
* {{Fanservice}}: Meg is caught getting dressed early in the film and has to run away with John. She spends most of the movie with only one button, apparently not having the time to dress all the way.
* ForgivingTheAccidentalPervert: [[InvertedTrope Inverted]]. She throws an ashtray at John out of fright for herself after he almost suggestively tried to dominate her at bed.
* PleaseGetOffMe:
* RedOniBlueOni: John is blue, Meg is red.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: Meg shows signs of this in the film. She starts off wearing a thin black dress that’s unzipped in the back, showing her full back and bra. She changes out it for something slightly more modest but has her shirt unbuttoned showing her bra. By the end of the movie, she dresses up much more modest and looks cleaner.
