Context RunningGag / Chuggaaconroy

Go To

* Whenever a non-human character in ''VideoGame/PaperMario'' would kiss Mario, Chugga would shout "BESTIALITY! THIS IS NOT [[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006 SONIC NEXT-GEN]]!!"
* Pointing out every instance of "Creator/{{Nintendo}} logic" ever.
* Getting aggravated at his VideoGame/{{Pikmin}} frequently disobeying him.
* Before he became a partner he constantly mentions the time limit and how it hinders him.
* Building on the notion that the ''Mario'' games are based on Creator/ShigeruMiyamoto's real life, whenever something bizarre is seen, he speculates on how messed up Miyamoto's early life must have been.
* Taunting the enemies in the day ending sequence if none of his Pikmin are left behind.
* His ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy'' LP has him making comments about how the Hungry Lumas have high/low metabolism depending on how many Star Bits they need to become obese.
* Calling the galaxies inside the Engine Room Dome [[CutAndPasteEnvironments unoriginal.]]
* "Do you like the [[SceneryPorn art direction]] of [[VideoGame/{{Okami}} this game]]? Because I really like the art direction of this game."
** Given a CallBack in ''VideoGame/SuperPaperMario''. His hint about the (Japanese) art style of Chapter 6 is "I like the art direction of this place because the art direction is really nice, and whoever the art director was did a really nice job in the art direction, yeah, it's Japanese."
** Similarly, he absolutely loves the soundtrack of ''VideoGame/{{MOTHER 3}}''.
** And ''VideoGame/KirbysEpicYarn''.
** And, of course, let's not forget his [[Funny/ChuggaaconroyXenobladeChronicles Xenoblade Chronicles]]''.
* "Un-necessarily epic!"
* He sometimes will reference stuff from different games and would then add, "This is not (insert game title)."
* Yelling "THIS IS BURGER KING!!" Whenever the words "Have it your way" appear on screen.
* Giving voices to characters, usually giving them ridiculous accents that doesn't even fit the respective characters. He usually lampshades it when using a ridiculous accent.
* Getting the final blow on each boss in ''Majora's Mask'' on their toe. Subverted with Gyorg, who has no feet in the first place...and lampshaded, of course:
--> I'm gonna have a hard time cutting off this one's toe!
* Mikau getting concussions.
* The Hocotate Ship in ''VideoGame/Pikmin2'' constantly interrupting Chugga.
* [[VideoGame/SuperPaperMario BOWSER'S]] [[AbnormalLimbRotationRange ARMS!]] THE SPINNIEST ARMS IN THE GALAXY!
** He was especially happy when Dimentio [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] this in-game.
* While not as often as the others, he'll often mention [[LetsPlay/JoshJepson "The train is late!"]] whenever a train is involved in some sort of situation.
* In the description of the first episode of his ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'' [[LetsPlay LPs]], saying he acquires his "third-first", "fourth-first and fifth-first" Pokémon.
* In ''VideoGame/PokemonColosseum'', he frequently points out how big the feet of the [=NPCs=] are.
** He even lampshades it in part 10: "Huge feet is a [[{{Pun}} RUNNING GAG]]!"
** He gave several [[CallBack callbacks]] to this gag in ''VideoGame/PokemonXDGaleOfDarkness'' LP.
** Also in ''VideoGame/PokemonColosseum'', there's a counter for the number of times the [[ArtificialStupidity Dumb AI]] uses an ineffective normal, ground, or fighting move on the [[NoSell ghost type with Levitate]] Misdreavus. It finished the game at 31, plus a Confuse Ray when it was already confused.
* Another rather unfortunate running gag in ''VideoGame/PokemonColosseum'' is him failing to catch the bosses' Shadow Pokémon.
* In ''all'' his Pokémon [=LPs=], you can practically guarantee that [[TemptingFate whenever Chugga dismisses a Pokémon or move as sub-par and not worth your time]], within a few minutes it will end up KO'ing one of his own Pokémon.
* [[OverlyLongGag Again]] in ''VideoGame/PokemonColosseum'', he frequently [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] the various odd names of the trainers. It reached a peak in the 5th Bonus Episode where he ran into a [[GoldfishPoopGang Team Snagem]] member named ''[[UsefulNotes/JoeBiden Biden]]''.
* 'Shiny is good'.
* Also Chuggaa's tradition of trying to catch legendary Pokémon in unorthodox balls (which, if you're a veteran player, is usually anything but an Ultra Ball.)
* 'Y'know what ah'm tawk about' (rough transcription) whenever he says the phrase 'You know what I'm talking about' a lot.
* The villagers in ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossing'' almost always asking him for a peach, which is usually growing on a tree only five feet away.
* His laziness when it comes to doing bonus videos.
* Trifecta, his Dodrio, fainting before being able to do anything in ''VideoGame/PokemonXDGaleOfDarkness''.
* ''Every'' single time he gets a vision from picking up an item in ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1'', he is caught completely off-guard, and ends up shouting in surprise.
* His description of the inconsiderate placement of warp points in ''Xenoblade''. One of them is even the carcass of a deceased boss.
* Throughout ''Xenoblade'', due to his goal of hundred-percenting a game with a huge amount of sidequests and hidden things as soon as they're convenient, expect him to often start episodes saying what the next story goal is, followed by "But before we do that..." This can even happen several episodes in a row.
* Because ''Xenoblade'' was localized by Nintendo of Europe using a British team, expect Chuggaa to run into a word or term he doesn't recognize and question "Is this a British thing or a Xenoblade thing?" He continues the gag in ''Xenoblade 2''.
* His tales of how, as a kid, he was the worst player of ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigi'' ever, including but not limited to:
** Not knowing he could move the bonus stat on the level up screen, and so had a lot of [=HP=] and little else, both for ''Superstar Saga'' and ''Partners in Time''.
** Not using the stat-increasing blends from Starbeans Cafe, not because he didn't know about the place, but because he assumed they restored health.
** Not realizing he could dig for beans until the Hammer Bros. told him about it in ''Partners in Time''. Extra points to the fact that he didn't align that this was referring to the "X" marks on the floor until he randomly drilled into one later on in his first playthrough.
** Only going to Peach's Castle's shop once because he didn't know it would restock as ''Partners in Time'' went on.
** Not ever going to 'Fawful's Bean 'n' Badge' in ''Partners in Time'' because he didn't realise you could dig under the grate to get there, and therefore missing out on some of the best badges in the game.
** In ''Partners in Time'', he never used the consumable Bros Items except on bosses, despite having ''over fifty'' of some types. This meant he never got the chance to practise using them, so he never did much more damage with them than a normal attack would.
** This all culminated when he fought the final boss of ''Partners in Time''. The first time he fought her, he played for an hour, then lost because he ran out of one-ups. The second time, he played for an hour and a half, then his battery died. He managed to beat her on his third try, but only after playing for ''three hours straight''.
** Keep in mind, this literally created a SelfImposedChallenge known as the chuggslocke where you have to play like how Chugga did.
* In ''[[VideoGame/PokemonDiamondAndPearl Pokémon Platinum]]'', Dawn's hat is always referred to as a sock.
** Also in ''Pokémon Platinum'', making fun of the hikers' eyes bugging out whenever you get far enough away from them while they are on screen due to the game's bad sprite aliasing.
** In both ''Platinum'' and ''Black and White'', pointing out in annoyance that the games' online multiplayer functionality setups have been discontinued every time they are mentioned by characters in-game. Exaggerated in ''Black and White'' as the game had a greater focus on online functions and many named [=NPCs=] bring it up again and again.
* In ''VideoGame/LuigisMansionDarkMoon'', every time a door closes by itself Chugga blames it on "THE WIND!"
* During almost every weapon bio for ''VideoGame/Splatoon1'', he makes sure to give special attention to Damage Up. In the first video of ''VideoGame/Splatoon2'', he gave special attention to Damage Up... because it's not in that game.
* In ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiPartnersInTime'':
** His attempts to avoid saying "last ''time''" in the intros by using synonyms in place of "time".
** Earning a 1 on the roulette when a Bro levels up.
* His replay of ''VideoGame/{{EarthBound|1994}}'' has a few.
** "Say it with me...'[[LocalizationTropes In Japan...]]'"
** Jeff's face getting covered in photographs.
** Chugga constantly getting interrupted by phone calls from his dad and the photograph man.
* In ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy2'', he often brings up how speedrunners play through Galaxy 2, either to make light hearted jabs at them, or to compare his playstyle to theirs.
** Also in ''Galaxy 2'', he'll occasionally make jabs at Prima Games guides.
* In ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles2'', if Chugga needs to visit Gormott for any reason, chances are he'll show the party casually murder the Mayne Driver again on the way.
* ''VideoGame/Splatoon2'': Chugga repeatedly getting one stage in a lineup while being lucky if he even sees the other.
** And always getting Clam Blitz for Ranked battles.
* A minor one, but in games where screen transitions switch the camera angle (i.e., a door going north has the player emerging south on the next screen), expect him to accidentally go back through the door because he was holding the control stick in the same direction, and to gripe about it each time it happens. This is seen in the door from Rao's temple to the Aristocratic Quarter of Sei-an City in ''VideoGame/{{Okami}}'' and the tunnel in and out of the Isle of Songs in ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaSkywardSword''.
* Whenever the phrase "once told me" shows up in a game, expect Chugga to try to sing the dialogue to [[Music/SmashMouth "All Star"]].
* Calling postmen "The true superheroes of the American people" whenever he encounters one in game.
* And of course:
** 'MIYAMOTO!!!'
** 'NNNNNNNOOOOOOO!!!'
