''Yu-Gi-Oh! East Academy'' is a {{Play By Post|Game}} ''Franchise/YuGiOh'' roleplay hosted on the Website/TvTropes forum.

In the heat of the Israeli desert a new dueling academy has opened, inviting duelists from across the globe to enter and train to become world class duelists. But as the first weeks of the academy begin, a horrifying threat looms. Ten students soon find themselves on the run, hunted by the demented Cult of Apophis, a secretive and hate-filled organization that seeks to resurrect their deity and extinguish all life on earth.

And thus begins the tale of the students of East Academy.

A remake was started on Discord, essentially taking the original story with a new cast of characters. The sessions were saved as Google docs and can be found [[https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/14veiQiSKlkrGNwMj2RYXe9i9_FhG_Stb?usp=sharing here]]

!!''Yu-Gi-Oh! East Academy'' contains examples of:
* AssholeVictim: Marcus' [[spoiler: execution of one of the cultists. It was horrible enough to qualify him as the group's TokenEvilTeammate, but considering that the cultist was a nihilistic psycho who had tried to torture and kill Daniel...]]
* BatmanGambit: Marcus uses a rather elaborate one to [[spoiler: bypass [[BigBad Haine's]] SurveillanceAsThePlotDemands powers and lure him into a trap. Manipulating not only Haine's arrogance and sadism, but also his own team as well.]]
%%** [[ManipulativeBastard Marcus seems to be quite good at these in general]], having successfully used minor versions against Peter, Gretel, Denero, [[spoiler: Denero's father]], and even Haine himself at an earlier point.
* BattleInTheCenterOfTheMind: Sigmund has one with Freed. However it's inside ''Freed's'' mind rather than his own.
* BreakTheHaughty: Jacques is incredibly arrogant in his early appearances, but this soon changes following an absolutely crippling defeat at the hands of Peter. [[FromBadToWorse To make matters worse]], he then finds himself a target for Gretel's bullying, who precedes to degrade and humiliate him even further. And to add to that, he becomes the first duelist to lose to a cultist and is nearly crippled as a result.
* CerebusCallback: An amusing thing to happen during the TournamentArc was Marcus's tendency to get [[CurbstompBattle curbstomped]] by just about every duellist he met. It happens again during his duel with [[spoiler:Haine]] and this time, [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown it's not amusing at all.]]
* CerebusSyndrome: The introduction and the first arc are both fairly standard ''Franchise/YuGiOh'' fare, with rivalries and friendships developing and generally a fairly light-hearted roleplay. Then the [[DarkerAndEdgier second arc]] rolls around.
* ColdBloodedTorture: Haine inflicts this on both [[spoiler:Marcus and Sylvestre]]. Never mind the Shadow Game, the deck he uses is essentially made as a collection of his favorite torture devices.
%%* ConservationOfNinjutsu: Played straight during Caramon and Peter's tag duel against one of Apophis' cultists, in which she consistently maintains an advantage over them for nearly the entire duel.
* CreepyMonotone: Marcus uses this during his BreakingSpeech to Gretel.
* CryForTheDevil: In-universe, Sigmund expresses genuine sympathy for Skull Knight when he realises the latter was [[spoiler:possessed by the "Hatred-Battle Booster" card and forced to be a monster.]]
* CurbStompBattle:
** David utterly ''destroys'' [[spoiler:Denero]] in his first duel. Proving himself to be more than just some fanboy.
** Marcus's duel against [[spoiler:Denero's father]]. Every move the latter made only served to help Marcus's strategy. Which culminated in him finishing off the cultist with a casual OneHitKill.
* DoNotTauntCthulhu: Marcus spent most of their first encounter mocking the BigBad Haine. This proved to be a [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown very big mistake]].
* EarnYourHappyEnding: After all the horror, destruction, psychological warfare, MindRape and torture, these kids really earned a nice end to Arc 2.
* EpicFail: During the battle royale, Marcus screws up his entire strategy twice by misreading his own cards.
* FusionDance: During the duel against [[spoiler:his parents]], Denero is forced to fuse together with Meteor, proving their conviction but also hoping to gain the power to win.
%%* HeroicBSOD: Marcus spends several scenes suffering from a HeroicBSOD after he is [[spoiler:tortured by Haine.]]
* KickTheDog:
** Gretel's bullying of Jacques during the first Tournament. This act is so cruel it actually [[BerserkButton prompts]] Marcus to try and MindRape her.
** David flirting with Crystal. Seems harmless enough, until you consider that [[spoiler:Crystal had just lost her only remaining family member]] and that David was only doing it to amuse himself, rather than being genuinely interested in her... dick move, mate.
** Haine's [[spoiler:ColdBloodedTorture of Marcus and Sylvestre (which included outright ''murdering'' the latter.)]]
%%** Marcus's BreakingSpeech to Gretel was incredibly vicious, but you can't really say she didn't deserve it.
* KillTheGod: [[spoiler:Apophis is dead, due to the heroes combining into Marduk... and some last minute help from David.]]
* KnightOfCerebus: The Cult of Apophis present a very real and significant danger to the heroes; their appearance marks the darkening tone of the RP.
* LukeIAmYourFather: Two of the cultists are revealed to be [[spoiler:Denero's parents]].
* MeleeATrois: There was a battle royale between Justin, Marcus and an NPC called Yikhezkel.
%%* MindRape: Gol'gar does this to one of the cultists on [[spoiler:Marcus's]] orders.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Marcus briefly has this reaction when he believes that the cultist he [[spoiler:{{mind rape}}d and killed]] was a friend of Roxas. [[SubvertedTrope He gets over it in seconds, however, when he finds out that Roxas objected on principle alone]].
* MyGreatestFailure: While he tries to deny it, Marcus clearly feels horrible about [[spoiler: the death of Sylvestre.]]
* NervesOfSteel: Every single one of the East Academy duelists shows an almost mind-boggling amount of courage, standing firm in the face of horrors that most war veterans would [[GoMadFromTheRevelation break down at.]] Bear in mind that these kids are all underage schoolchildren who never asked for this.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: A subtle example from Marcus during his Tag Duel with Denero. While his strategy is solid, it unfortunately has the unforeseen consequence of being indirectly responsible for Denero merging his mind with the Meteor and becoming more aggressive and unstable as a result.
* NightmareFace: Marcus shows one during his BreakingSpeech to Gretel. it is apparently based on [[https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13409218090A18920100&page=47#1156 the photo of his RPer]].
%%* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: [[spoiler: Haine vs Marcus and Sylvestre]] calling it a CurbstompBattle is putting it nicely.
%% * NoSell: Haine does this to Gol'gar's ''Cosmic Nebula Force'' attack
* PostVictoryCollapse: David seems to be severely weakened and exhausted after his duel with [[spoiler:Denero]], despite [[CurbstompBattle curbstomping]] the latter.
%%* RivalsTeamUp: Denero and Marcus do this in order to face [[spoiler: Denero's parents.]]
* RunningGag: Jacques being unconscious limits what he can do.
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: Jacques repeatedly tells the [[PaintingTheMedium pink voiced]] Gamma-03 that she isn't his girlfriend. Doesn't seem to take, really.
* ShootTheDog: Marcus orders his partner to read the mind of a helpless cultist then execute him. Naturally, [[WhatTheHellHero this horrifies the other members.]]
* ShoutOut:
** Regulus uses boat-loads of them:
*** Dragunity Arma Mystletainn, when attacking directly, uses Unrelenting Force from ''[[VideoGame/TheElderScrollsVSkyrim Skyrim]]''.
*** Dragunity Arma Laevateinn changes its sword to a bow and shoots a projectile when attacking directly. [[Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaAs Sound familiar?]] Also, Regulus names the attack "Storm Falcon".
*** Dragunity Knight - Gae Bolg's attack is called [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Impaling Spear of Finality]].
** Freed's Mindscapre bares a heavy resemblance to [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight A certain reality marble.]]
** David Kinrab: "Its for the best..." [[Anime/YuGiOhZexal Now, where have we heard that one before...]]
** David has said "[[Franchise/KingdomHearts You know nothing, and thus, you understand nothing]]", combined with his cold demeanor, it makes him sound like Xehanort.
* ShownTheirWork: InUniverse, Caramon did enough researching into Duel Academies prior to attending that both the large quantity of Duel Spirit-seeing people and an OmnicidalManiac trying to revive itself left him mostly unfazed.
* SmugSnake: Haine and Skull Knight. They can dish out the taunts, but they can't seem to take them.
* StrawNihilist: The Cult of Apophis's philosophy revolves around the fact that the world is worthless and must be extinguished. Marcus [[BreakingLecture tries to deconstruct this philosophy.]]
* SuddenlyAlwaysKnewThat: Duel Spirit powers pop up left and right, from Gol'gar's mind-reading and Machine King's ability to hack anything to Denero and Meteor's ability to merge permanently. Justified since this happens early on in the series when such things are normally introduced.
* TagTeam:
** Caramon and Peter are part of a two-on-one duel against the Constellar cultist.
** Both the Penultimate duel and the GrandFinale have all of the duelists teaming up against [[BigBad Haine]] and Apophis respectively.
%%* TournamentArc: Right off the bat.
* TranquilFury: Despite being utterly furious with Gretel, Marcus rarely raises his voice in his duel against her, instead opting to [[MindRape slowly break her mind through psychological warfare.]]
%%* VitriolicBestBuds: Caramon and Jacques at the start of the series. By the midpoint of the Apophis arc, the Vitriolic part is all but forgotten.
* WhatTheHellHero:
** Denero gets this from Jacques after his decision to abandon Marcus. Ironic, since Marcus had wanted them to leave. Followed by a ReasonYouSuckSpeech and WhatTheHellHero lecture from David.
** Marcus himself gets one near the start of the Apophis Arc, with basically the entire cast freaking out on him for his [[spoiler:killing and [[MindRape mind-raping]] of the Jurrac cultist]].
* TheWorfEffect: Denero gets his ass handed to him by [[spoiler:David]] in the latters first duel in the show.
%%** Skull Knight seems to have been introduced solely for Sigmund to get his official badass license.
%%** Marcus has been subjected to this no less than three times, being curbstomped by Peter, Yikzhekel and Haine.
* WorldOfHam: [[BadassBoast Epic boasting]]? Melodramatic speeches? CallingYourAttacks? MundaneMadeAwesome? ''Thunder?! Lightning?! Fire and brimstone?!'' East Academy has it all! But then, what else would you expect from a ''Franchise/YuGiOh'' RP?
* WorthyOpponent: Peter/Regulus and Caramon/Jacques. Both of these duelists view each other with a great deal of respect despite being rivals.
%%** To a lesser extent, Marcus has this attitude towards Peter, though it is far from being reciprocated.
* YouShallNotPass: Sigmund pulls this on Skull Knight to allow Regulus to get the Exodia card to Sophia. [[spoiler:{{Subverted}}, however, in that he manages to actually win the duel. Though he made it clear that this was what he ''thought'' he was doing.]]
