-->'''Daryl and Laurent take refuge in the woods while Isabelle contends with her confinement.'''

----
* AllForNothing: The teen who tries desperately to get some fuel to get back to his girlfriend is killed by the other walker hunters, even after being forced to kiss up to them to try to get into a partnership with them.
* AndThisIsFor: When the variant is being prepared, Codron taunts Daryl that he’s going to die for killing his brother.
* AssholeVictim: Downplayed with Juno, who seems to have definitely deserved his fate as a prisoner on the ship, but later helps Daryl try to escape. Quinn, however, definitely deserved getting imprisoned by Genet.
* BrutalHonesty: Daryl is a pretty "tough luck" kind of mentor to Laurent now that they’re away from Isabelle’s care, gruffly telling him they’ll need to hunt animals for food and that he needs to learn how to survive.
* TheBusCameBack: Carol Peletier makes her first appearance, if only via audio, since the end of ''The Walking Dead''.
* TheCameo: In flashbacks, Daryl makes radio contact with Carol who reports that the Coalition is still in good shape.
* CallBack:
** Isabelle almost kills Quinn pulling a hidden knife like how she stole the keys from him in the flashbacks of the second episode.
** Burners return after last being seen in the first episode.
* ContinuityNod:
** Daryl tells Laurent about his friends back home - Judith, R.J., Connie, Ezekiel, and Carol.
** Daryl loses his jacket to one of the men aboard the ship, just like when Dwight stole his jacket back in Season 6.
** Daryl's grandfather who died in Normany landings is named William T. Dixon. In the long forgotten ''Videogame/TheWalkingDeadSurvivalInstinct'', Daryl's father is named Will.
* ControlFreak: Genet’s motivation is unveiled as she wants to have all of France under her control, and the myth around Laurent is a violation of her absolute control she wants stamped out.
* DarkestHour: Daryl, Isabelle, and Laurent have all been captured by Genet, who demands the latter two submit to her orders or ''else'', and the former is about to face off with a deadly variant in a cruel gladiatorial game.
* DeathByIrony: Azlan dryly notes that God has a sense of humor since he’s impaled on a telephone pole, and his father worked for a phone company.
* EveryoneHasStandards: Juno is a greedy prick but even he is nothing compared to the traffickers aboard the ship, and tries to escape alongside Daryl.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: Azlan realizes he will die from his wounds inflicted by the burner and calmly accepts it, asking Daryl to keep going.
* HeelFaceDoorSlam: Juno was in the middle of redeeming himself for his earlier behavior by working together with Daryl to escape the ship, but he’s killed by a variant before he can escape.
* IHaveYouNowMyPretty: Quinn quickly tells Isabelle that he’s ready to have her back as his lover and she is less than thrilled about the prospect.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Played for sympathy. Laurent admits he cut the boat free so he wouldn’t have to lose Daryl.
* ManipulativeBastard: Quinn is able to unknowingly(?) talk Isabelle out of killing him by recalling the story of Isaac and Abraham.
* MauveShirt: Azlan dies after a small bit of characterization and one episode’s worth of tenure on the show.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Seeing Laurent cry and admit he doesn’t want to lose him makes Daryl seemingly realize more of his abusive father and Merle came out in him than he’d have liked.
* NewEraSpeech: Genet gives one to her assembled followers while she prepares to have Daryl killed.
* OnceMoreWithClarity: The ship Daryl was put aboard is finally revealed to be something he was imprisoned on by the walker hunters as punishment for initiating a fight with Jones.
* PragmaticHero: Laurent is told by Azlan that even if he promised to God he wouldn’t eat animals, he’s going to have to if there’s no other choice and God would understand.
* TheReveal: This episode finally sheds more light on how Daryl ended up on his way to France.
* SequelHook: Who was Carol referring to who returned to the Coalition?
* SpannerInTheWorks: PlayedWith. Daryl and Juno’s escape is hampered when a variant arrives and kills the latter. However, Daryl manages to escape the variant and into the sea before the ship explodes.
* TemptingFate: When Genet says she’s getting angry, Laurent says in a matter of fact way that she’s not angry, just supposedly heartbroken. This only succeeds in making Genet genuinely angry and more forceful with her demands.
* WhamShot: One of the walkers aboard the ship begins running up the stairs to Juno and Daryl, confirming the faster, stronger variants from France made it to America.
