Serena takes her first step in the world of Performance by making a video for Pokévision to show off herself and Fennekin.

!!This episode contains examples of the following tropes:
* AshFace: This happens to Serena and Fennekin after Pikachu blows up Clemont's camera robot. Fennekin then burns Ash with Ember twice; once when it is angry about getting covered in soot and a second time accidentally when it was aiming for Pikachu when it accidentally spilled flour on Fennekin.
* BorrowedCatchphrase: Since Ash is too busy training for his gym battle to be there at first when they are filming outside, Serena says "I guess science really is amazing..." when Clemont reveals his new camera, which Serena then lampshades, though she is not very enthusiastic about the invention the way Ash usually is.
* FunnyBackgroundEvent: When Ash makes a comment about how "she" is cute, Serena thought Ash was referring to Aria, but actually to the latter's Fennekin. Serena's relieved, but ''her'' Fennekin [[{{Foreshadowing}} is not]].
* FurBikini: After an accident with one of Clemont's inventions, Serena wears one based on her Fennekin.
* GenderReveal: Fennekin is revealed to be female in this episode.
* InnocuouslyImportantEpisode: At first it seemed that the Poké Vision thing was a filler episode, but Aria would later becoming a recurring character as the reigning Kalos Queen during Serena's quest to become a Pokémon Performer. Her video also made Shauna, Tierno, and Trevor instantly recognize her when they met.
* JerkassBall: Due to its desire to look good on camera and aversion to filth in general, Serena's Fennekin becomes somewhat of a stereotypical diva in this episode, even using Ember against Ash when he and Pikachu accidentally get it dirty.
* MythologyGag: One [=PokéVision=] features an Onix warming its trainer in a snowstorm. The trainer must have watched "Snow Way Out" or something...
* RealMenWearPink: Pikachu wears a frilly pink apron along with Fennekin during the cooking scene.
* RunningGag:
** This is where it's first revealed that Clemont is camera-shy, which will pop again in later episodes.
** Those at Pokémon really love parodying the iconic MGM logo; this time they used Meowth.
* TookALevelInBadass: Fennekin learned Flamethrower!
* UngratefulBitch: Fennekin hurls an Ember attack on Ash after Ash saved it (and the others) from Clemont's (usual) malfunctioning devices.
