13Jack wakes up in the jungle, back on the Island. He finds Hurley and Kate.
14
1546 hours earlier, Jack, Sun, Ben and Desmond meet Eloise inside the church. She explains that the church is actually a DHARMA Initiative station called the Lamp Post, which they used to figure out where the Island would be at a particular time and find windows to return to it. Desmond calls the others crazy for wanting to return. He passes on Faraday's message to Eloise, and storms out after she tells him the Island isn't done with him yet. Eloise tells Jack that to get back to the Island, he must be on Ajira Flight 316 from Los Angeles to Guam, and that the conditions of the flight must mirror those of Oceanic 815, with as many of the same people as possible on board, and Locke's body as a proxy for his father's. Jack visits his grandfather, Ray, and borrows an old pair of his father's shoes. Jack finds Kate at his home. She tells him she has decided to come with him, and that he must never ask her about Aaron again. They kiss.
16
17The next morning, Ben, with blood all over his face, calls Jack from the docks and asks him to pick up Locke's body for him. Jack puts his father's shoes on Locke. At the airport, Jack and Sun see Sayid being brought on the plane by a woman who appears to be an Air Marshal. Hurley shows up, carrying a guitar case. He buys the remaining 78 seats on the Ajira plane so that any innocent bystanders will not be killed in the crash. On the plane, they find out that Frank Lapidus is the pilot. He realizes when he sees everyone that they are headed for the Island. While the plane is in the air, they start to hit turbulence. There is a flash of white light and a loud noise, like the time flashes, and Jack wakes up in the jungle. He finds Hurley and Kate. They are approached by a DHARMA van, and Jin gets out, wearing a DHARMA jumpsuit.

19!Tropes in this episode include:
20
21* BlatantLies: Ben's claim that his mother taught him to read, considering that she died giving birth to him. There's no real purpose to this lie, other than Ben being [[ConsummateLiar Ben.]]
22* CallBack:
23** The opening scene of the episode, with Jack waking up in the jungle after landing on the Island, mirrors the opening scene of "[[{{Recap/LostS01E01PilotPart1}} Pilot, Part 1]]".
24** Invoked by Eloise, who states that the Ajira flight must mirror the circumstances of the original crash as closely as possible to help the group get back to the Island. With this in mind, Jack uses Locke's coffin as a proxy for his father's, and Sayid is apparently arrested and transported by an Air Marshal just as Kate was.
25* ComedicSociopathy: Ben's total disregard for any of the other passengers on the plane crosses into BlackComedy.
26-->'''Jack:''' And the other people on this plane -- what's gonna happen to them?
27-->'''Ben:''' Who cares?
28* ConsummateLiar: Ben denies knowing that The Lamp Post existed. Jack, who's clearly grown wise to Ben's habit, asks Eloise if he's telling the truth. She agrees that he probably isn't.
29* ContinuityNod:
30** At the Lamp Post, Jack sees a photograph of the Island taken by the U.S. Military in 1954, referencing their presence on the Island as previously alluded to in "[[{{Recap/LostS05E03Jughead}} Jughead]]".
31** Desmond mentions his previous meeting with Eloise in "[[{{Recap/LostS03E08FlashesBeforeYourEyes}} Flashes Before Your Eyes]]".
32* EvilCannotComprehendGood: Ben seems genuinely confused that Jack actually cares what happens to the other passengers when they get back to the Island.
33* ExactWords: When Jack asks Ben if he knew that Locke killed himself, he truthfully answers that he didn't. [[spoiler:Ben knows for a fact that Locke didn't kill himself because ''he'' killed him.]]
34* ExplainExplainOhCrap: Lapidus is just talking about the odds of Jack being a passenger on his flight when he notices Sayid... and Kate... and Hurley... and Sun... and Ben and realizes that they're going back to the Island.
35-->'''Lapidus:''' We're not going to Guam, are we?
36* {{Futureshadowing}}:
37** We see an out of context scene of Ben at the docks with blood all over his face, and when he arrives on the plane his arm is in a sling, but we don't find out how he got these injuries until a few episodes later.
38** It's not revealed until later what convinced Kate and Hurley to get on Ajira 316, or how Sayid ended up in Ilana's custody.
39* HowWeGotHere: The episode opens with Jack, Kate and Hurley back on the Island, and flashes back to show how they got there on Ajira Flight 316.
40* LeadTheTarget: Eloise explains that the Lamp Post works on this principle, finding the Island by predicting where it will be at a certain point in time, because it is constantly moving.
41-->'''Eloise:''' Now while the movements of the Island seem random, this man and his team created a series of equations which tell us, with a high degree of probability, where it is going to be at a certain point... in time. Windows, as it were, that while open, provide a route back.
42* NeverLiveItDown: Referenced InUniverse. Ben mentions that Thomas was one of Jesus's most loyal disciples, and yet he's only remembered for not believing in the Resurrection until he saw Jesus alive for himself.
43* ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney: Hurley buys all the remaining seats on the Ajira plane, despite the objections of airport staff that by doing so he's preventing people from getting home. Of course, from Hurley's perspective, it's closer to ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight, since he's doing it to prevent innocent bystanders from being killed when the plane crashes on the Island.
44* ShoutOut: The name of the Lamp Post Station is a reference to ''Literature/TheLionTheWitchAndTheWardrobe''. The station helps provide a passage between the world and the Island, much like how the lamp post in the novel marks the location of the passage between Narnia and the real world.
45* WhamShot: Jack, Kate, and Hurley return to the Island, and the first person they see is Jin wearing a fresh DHARMA jumpsuit and driving a new-looking DHARMA van.
46* YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe: Desmond is absolutely dumfounded that Jack and Sun are going back to the Island willingly.
