When the South Galaxy is mysteriously destroyed, King Kai sends Goku to investigate who is the one responsible. Meanwhile, a Saiyan survivor and his son offer Vegeta the opportunity to rule a new Planet Vegeta they've christened, which the Saiyan Prince-'now ''King''-'accepts, not knowing that their offer and Goku's investigation are interconnected...

----
!!Guys? What’s our trope word?[[note]]It's BROCCOLI, ''IT'S BROCO-''*(boom)*[[/note]]

* AdaptedOut:
** In the original film, Goku joins the others shortly after they make their way to New Vegeta. Halfway through this version has him search aimlessly for the culprit behind South Galaxy's destruction until King Kai points him to the planet. This skips his initial encounter and fight against [the pre-transformed] Broly.
** The ring that Paragus uses to control Broly is taken out. Instead, Broly is docile halfway through the movie until Vegeta stubbornly says the TriggerPhrase.
* AdaptationDistillation:
** The movie cuts out the plot of Vegeta having to [[HiddenInPlainSight find the Legendary Super Saiyan to face him]], Broly recognizing Goku at first sight, and the first confrontation with him. Instead, Paragus made Vegeta the new king of a doomed planet to fill his ego, Paragus' plans are revealed at the end of Part 1 instead of the first act of the original movie, and Broly is just triggered by Goku's Saiyan name, Kakarot, not his entire presence.
** The abridged movie skips the scene where a suppressed Super Saiyan Broly attacks Goku at night, and it changes the trigger of the Legendary Super Saiyan transformation-- from a broken PowerLimiter (his crown) to a SplitPersonality with a trigger word-- so his blue-haired Super Saiyan form is only seen briefly when he loses control and immediately initiates his transformation into Legendary. It also gives the implication that it's simply a transition state as his body prepares to go from normal form straight to Legendary.
** Most of Master Roshi, Oolong and Krillin's scenes from the original movie were cut. Probably justified, since they were comic relief in the original, which is considered redundant in a parody.
* AdaptationalHeroism: Downplayed, but present. Paragus is much more of a sympathetic AntiVillain than in the original, being concerned mainly with (admittedly [[MisplacedRetribution misplaced]] but still [[AssholeVictim deserved]]) revenge [[SinsOfOurFathers against]] [[AdaptationalVillainy Vegeta]], whereas the original version also had ambitions of universal conquest, taking over Earth as the base of operations for this conquest, and brainwashed Broly to accomplish this. Speaking of which, Broly in this version is not brainwashed by Paragus, and is instead a meek boy who happens to have a SuperpoweredEvilSide, one that Paragus does not want to take advantage of. The destruction of South Galaxy is also implied to be a mistake, and the [[TooKinkyToTorture aliens]] that Paragus enslaved are [[HappinessInSlavery totally into the submission]].
* AdaptationNameChange: The minion who whips the Shamoshans is named Angol, at least in material outside the movie. The abridged parody named him Da-dhi.
* AdmiringTheAbomination:
** Vegeta changes his mind about Paragus being a "shit-stain of a Saiyan" when Trunks reveals to him that Paragus built the new Saiyan kingdom off of the slave labour of other alien races. It was then subverted when said aliens mentioned that they were forced to build said kingdom on a doomed planet.
** He later zigzaggs between between praising at Broly's great power and being disgusted at his lame backstory.
* AllThereInTheManual: The [[FunWithSubtitles "English (Canada)" subtitles]] have a lot of fun with the episode, but they also point out some of the minor characters names. They also reveal that Nail and Kami had a line of dialogue in the episode.
-->'''Vegeta:''' You don't understand, the Legendary Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant fucking baby!\
'''Piccolo:''' So, kind of what you're being right now?\
'''Nail:''' Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh!\
'''Kami:''' Damn!!!!!!!
* AllYourPowersCombined: After Broly sweeps the floor with all of them, Goku requests energy so he can defeat him already. And unlike the canon version, where Vegeta resists it for pride, here he is more annoyed at Broly than hurting his ego.
-->'''Goku:''' Give me all of your energy. Right now. I'll end it in [[Manga/OnePunchMan one punch, man]]. \
'''Piccolo:''' Done.\
'''Trunks:''' Doing it.\
'''Gohan:''' Please make it end. \
'''Goku:''' Now, Vegeta. I know you're probably not going to...\
'''Vegeta:''' F*ck it. You have it. Just go.
* AssPull: When Piccolo arrives and asks Goku if there is a way to beat Broly, Goku lampshades this in response. [[invoked]]
-->'''Piccolo:''' Goku can we beat this guy?\
'''Goku:''' Uh! I dunno. I'm sure I'll pull something out my butt.\
'''Broly:''' AND IT WILL BE [[DeadlyEuphemism BROLY'S FIST!]]\
'''Trunks:''' [[AssShove Probably...]]
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: Vegeta complains of his kingdom having no subjects, no infrastructure…and a ''wooden'' throne.
-->'''Vegeta:''' What am I, the Space Pope?!
* AsYouKnow: Paragus tells Vegeta about how he managed to acquire a new Planet Vegeta off-screen while the viewer is being shown King Kai's call to Goku. When the viewer returns to Vegeta and Paragus' conversation, the former restates everything Paragus told him, clueing the audience in on the situation. Paragus, meanwhile, is mildly thrown by Vegeta repeating his words plainly for no in-universe reason.
-->'''Vegeta:''' So you're telling me that you've acquired an entirely ''new'' Planet Vegeta for me to rule over.\
'''Paragus:''' That is... exactly what I said. Yes.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: The Shamoshans don't mind being subjugated by Paragus' army. However, they suddenly realize they've made a terrible mistake when Broly decides to give them the "ultimate punishment" by destroying their homeworld. They had a forgotten SafeWord to put a stop to it but, whether or not it would work on him, is rendered moot as their world is destroyed by the time they finally remembered it.
* BeginWithAFinisher: {{Discussed|Trope}} and {{subverted|Trope}} when Broly [[NextTierPowerUp goes Legendary]] and immediately beats Goku:
-->'''Goku:''' Listen, Broly. I don't wanna tell you how to be the Legendary Super Saiyan, but you're not supposed to start ''all-out''. You're supposed to start off small and ''then'' work up to it.\
'''Broly:''' [[PowerMakesYourVoiceDeep I]] ''[[PowerMakesYourVoiceDeep AM]]'' [[PowerMakesYourVoiceDeep STARTING SMALL.]]\
'''Goku:''' ''[weakly]'' ... oh. Good for you. [[ThisIsGonnaSuck Holy crap.]]
* BigEater:
** Vegeta attended the wedding reception exclusively for the banquet, and he is pretty pissed off when he finds out it's a potluck instead.
** This becomes even funnier when you remember that Goku was only interested in attending ''for the exact same reason''.
* BittersweetEnding: The threat of Broly has been stopped and the Z-Fighters can continue their focus on defeating Cell...But unfortunately, Goku's continuous neglect for his family prompt Chi Chi to finally had enough of his antics and starts to consider divorcing him, unknowingly crumbling his family in the process. And South Galaxy is still destroyed.
* BlackComedyRape: Trunks is very freaked out at the ''prospect'' of Broly doing this to him, though fortunately Broly doesn't follow through with the implication.
* BreakingTheFourthWall:
** A rare example of the series doing so following the second season.
--->'''Gohan:''' Man, this just isn't my day.\
'''Goku:''' Eh, don't worry. [[Anime/DragonBallZBojackUnbound I think it's your movie, next.]]
* BrickJoke: A meta example, but the response of "NOW BROLY!", from the Legendary Super Saiyan himself, is towards fans who constantly asked "WHEN/WEN BROLY?" prior to the movie's debut.
* TheBusCameBack: King Kai returns for the first time since the end of Season 2.
* BusCrash: Dr. Wheelo, the subject of [[Recap/DragonBallZAbridgedM10 the last movie]], is mentioned that he died of brain cancer; which is [[DeathByIrony ironic as he was a renowned cancer researcher, according to Bulma]].
* ButtMonkey: Trunks. He gets dubbed Princess Trunks, told to mate with Broly to propagate the Saiyan race without his consent, gets called a filthy half breed by his own dad, vaporizes his trademark jacket upon turning Super Saiyan, and is targeted by Broly when the latter calls Trunks out on supposedly "lying to [him]" about his gender.
* CallBack: Even more so than usual for a ''DBZA'' movie:
** In Episode 29, King Kai went to the bathroom only to find a tree thrown through the roof of his house. South Kai goes to the bathroom for five minutes and he loses a whole Galaxy.
** Korin and Yajirobe's wedding happens, albeit offscreen, and when we catch up with the Z-Fighters, they're at the reception.
** Bulma references Vegeta leaving her while she was pregnant when he goes off to New Vegeta.
** Talking Movie Bubbles from the ''Lord Slug'' movie returns, as it is yet another ''DBZA'' movie.
** The "[[AmbiguousSyntax My Son]], [[MathematiciansAnswer The Planet]], [[BerserkButton or Me]]" gag returns, this time with Paragus taking Butarega's place.
** Nappa's position as vizier crops up again, and his instruction to stab the baby Broly is made hastily so that King Vegeta won't be late for his meeting with Freeza.
** Gohan, not realizing that Goku was trying to get him to access his [[CallForward Super Saiyan 2 power,]] assumes that he is being ordered to [[Recap/DragonBallZAbridgedE30 get the ship and get everyone off the planet.]] He promptly does so, this time without question. And before Goku can finish the sentence.
** Vegeta demands to know how Broly managed to reach such an awesome power level, listing off the ways [[BlatantLies he claimed]] to have achieved the Super Saiyan form in Episode 36.
--->'''[[FunWithSubtitles Broly's #1 Fanboi]]:''' How many push ups did he do? How many sit ups, WHAT KIND OF JUICE DID HE DRINK?!
** Gohan summons Piccolo to the battle by shouting "Piccolo, help!" as a blast is about to hit him (which Piccolo stops with another blast). The exact same thing happened in ''Super Android 13''.
** The TFS-remix of Bruce Faulconer's Super Saiyan Vegeta theme that played during the Final Flash scene in Episode 52 starts playing again as Vegeta powers up to fight Broly, [[TheDayTheMusicLied only to cut out as Broly smashes him into debris]].
** After being beat up by Broly, the others start wishing for other threats - Piccolo wishes for Garlic Jr., Trunks would take the Androids again, Vegeta wouldn't mind getting hit in the dick ''a thousand times'' and Gohan wouldn't mind about Turles, whom Vegeta is surprised about. Piccolo is upset that nobody mentioned Lord Slug.
** Most of the panning footage with Goku and Broly as infants is mirrored from the original movie, which subtly keeps continuity with ''[[Recap/DragonBallZAbridgedM1 Bardock: The Father of Goku]]''; Broly was to the left of Goku's Saiyan pod in that special, rather than the right as in ''The Legendary Super Saiyan'' film itself.
* CallForward:
** At the beginning of the movie, King Kai suggests that [[Anime/DragonBallZBattleOfGods Beerus]] may have been responsible for the sudden annihilation of South Galaxy. Interestingly, his {{Leitmotif}} in ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'' is the music that plays when Broly, the true culprit of South Galaxy's destruction, transforms into the Legendary Super Saiyan.
** When Goku excitedly goes to "New Vegeta" thinking it's ''literally'' another Vegeta to fight, King Kai mutters a "This guy is going to be the death of me". Gues what's going to happen in a few episodes.
** Goku, upon realizing just how powerful Broly is, starts to tell Gohan that he needs "to let go" with regard to his power (even mentioning that he "was going to save this for Cell"). However, Gohan misinterprets this as his father giving him permission to leave the battle and immediately flies off, to Goku's confusion.
** In TheStinger, Chi-Chi flatly tells Goku that she wants a divorce after his antics this movie. She'll be away from him soon enough, alright, but maybe not in the way she'd probably like.
* TheCameo: Cell and Mercenary Tao show up for brief scenes. Cell learns from Goku that other galaxies exist. Tao is [[TraumaButton endlessly screaming at the sight of Goku]], [[Manga/DragonBall considering the last time they fought]].
* ContinuityNod: All of the previous movie villains are mentioned as someone the protagonists would rather fight than Broly.
-->''[the main characters are lying around, beaten into the dirt]''\
'''Goku:''' Okay, guys. Be real with me. Is this the worst, or what?\
'''Piccolo:''' Frankly, at this point, [[Recap/DragonBallZAbridgedM6 I wish we could open up the Dead Zone and bring back Garlic, Jr.]]\
'''Trunks:''' Can't believe I'm saying it, [[Recap/DragonBallZAbridgedM9 but I'll take some more androids, please.]]\
'''Vegeta:''' [[Recap/DragonBallZAbridgedM7 And I'd rather get kicked in the dick]] ''[[Recap/DragonBallZAbridgedM7 a thousand]]'' [[Recap/DragonBallZAbridgedM7 more times]] than hear that idiot scream Kakarot's name again.\
'''Broly:''' KAKAROT!\
'''Vegeta:''' ''[groans]''\
'''Gohan:''' [[Recap/DragonBallZAbridgedM2 I'd even take Turles]], and he was just an evil version of my dad.\
'''Vegeta:''' ''[surprised]'' Wait, that guy with the tree? Is he alive?\
'''Goku:''' Not anymore. [[Recap/DragonBallZAbridgedM10 Also, that Wheelo guy!]] He was nice.\
'''Gohan:''' Oh, yeah. Too bad he died of brain cancer.\
''[much later, when the characters are returning home on the ship]''\
'''Piccolo:''' Okay, just going to drop this one out there. [[Recap/DragonBallZAbridgedM3 But, earlier, nobody brought up Slug]], and I feel that's kind of racist.
* CoolButStupid: Vegeta thinks Broly is awesome, but falls into a HeroicBSOD on hearing about his utterly moronic motivation.
* TheDayTheMusicLied: The TFS-style remix of Bruce Faulconer's Super Saiyan Vegeta theme from Episode 52 shows up again as Vegeta begins powering up to fight Broly, only to cut out as Broly smashes him into debris.
* DeathIsASlapOnTheWrist: Goku's disregard if Gohan dies is because they can bring him back in a day, plus he'll meet King Kai.
* DeliberateValuesDissonance: Upon finding out Paragus has been enslaving and tormenting the Shamoans, Vegeta immediately promotes him to Grand Vizier. When Trunks complains about how inhuman it is, Vegeta counters by pointing out it's not "in-saiyan".
* DisappointedByTheMotive: When he learns that Broly hates Goku simply because he cried a lot when they were both babies, Vegeta wastes no time in calling it "so dumb".
* DoubleStandardRapeMaleOnMale: Vegeta, taking the opportunity to be a dick to his son again, proclaims that Broly can bed "Princess Trunks" to breed more Saiyans, to which the latter quickly objects to. After Broly turns into the Legendary Super Saiyan he accuses Trunks of lying to him only to call him a "dirty ''boy''" afterwards. This causes Trunks to FreakOut and begs Goku [[ScrewThisImOutOfHere to Instant Transmission him out of there]]. While he is ruthlessly beaten up, there doesn't seem to be any "rape" involved, thankfully.
* DramaticIrony: Piccolo mentions opening the Dead Zone to bring back Garlic Jr. In DBZA, he has no idea that [[Recap/DragonBallZAbridgedE31 Garlic Jr. had already returned, but was assimilated by Mr. Popo]], with none of the Z Warriors the wiser.
* DrunkWithPower: Vegeta as King Vegeta, naturally. Besides the DoubleStandardRapeMaleOnMale above, he has all the soldiers call Trunks "Princess Trunks' after Paragus mistakes him for a woman and promotes Paragus for enslaving a race to build Vegeta's castle.
* DudeNotFunny: When South Kai is upset that his galaxy is gone and cannot be brought back, King Kai makes a crack that he will" have a lot more options" for the Otherworld Tournament coming up. South Kai is aghast at the joke.
-->'''South Kai:''' That's f*** up, man.
* EarlyBirdCameo:
** We hear South Kai's voice for the first time when he talks to King Kai, although we don't see him.
** King Kai suggests [[Anime/DragonBallSuper Beerus]] as a suspect for the destruction of South Galaxy, but South Kai brushes it off by staying that he's still asleep. (Which was the case in canon - Beerus slept for 39 years, just long enough to sleep through the entirety of ''Z''.)
* EveryoneHasStandards: The aliens Paragus enslaved ''enjoy'' being subjugated to the point of masochism, and are at first ''open'' to Broly's threats... then start trying to remember their SafeWord when Broly prepares to blow up their planet.
* {{Flanderization}}: After Broly transforms into the Legendary Super Saiyan, he slowly loses any trace of what little personality he actually had and devolves into [[PokemonSpeak only saying Kakarot.]] This is both a [[HangingALampshade Lampshade Hanging]] and a TakeThat at what happens to Broly in his actual film trilogy.
* FunWithSubtitles: The close captioning of the film on Youtube (currently, this is set at the Canadian English subtitles in the Youtube settings) has its own set of jokes, half of which are labeling the characters with certain joke names based on what they've been recently referred to as.
** The most prominent one is Trunks being labelled as "Princess Trunks" or some variation of "Princess Trunks", such as "Princess Trunks [SUB]" when Broly as the Legendary Super Saiyan starts flirting with him, and "Goldilocks Princess Trunks" when Trunks goes Super Saiyan. He's even called "Lavender Hobbit" after Vegeta refers to him as a filthy half-breed.
** Paragus is briefly labelled as "Grand Vizier Paragus" when Vegeta promotes him, then "Ex-Grand Vizier Shitstain" after the ruse falls apart.
** Vegeta is addressed as "King Vegeta II" for a large chunk of the movie, but when he starts gushing over how cool Broly is, the subtitles take to referring to him as "Broly's #1 Fanboi" and make frequent jokes about Vegeta being aroused while doing so.
** When Piccolo makes his BigDamnHeroes entrance to save Gohan and starts worriedly asking about his wellbeing (in stark contrast to Goku's casual excitement that Gohan would get to meet King Kai if Broly killed him), the subtitles refer to Piccolo as "Gohan's Dad".
* GenreThrowback: In general, the film feels like one to early AbridgedSeries: It derives most of its humor from MythologyGags, LampshadeHanging, usage of [[MemeticMutation fandom memes]], and copious usage of ShoutOut and TakeThat towards both the film itself and its various dubs. There's even an instance of BreakingTheFourthWall.
* AGodAmI: Vegeta and Broly trade this when they meet:
-->'''Broly:''' What is a ''king'' to a ''god''?\
'''Vegeta:''' And what is a ''god'' to a '''''non-believer?!'''''\
''[Vegeta powers up... and is promptly smashed into debris]''\
'''Broly:''' [[BadassBoast Do you believe now?]]\
'''Vegeta:''' Uh-huh... so cool...
* GodzillaThreshold: Parodied. Goku attempts to get Gohan to go Super Saiyan 2. However, Gohan takes it as a ScrewThisImOuttaHere.
* HappilyMarried:
** The episode opens with Korin and Yajirobe's wedding reception, where both are already talking on what they're gonna get for their Honeymoon.
** Rather sadly subverted with Goku and Chi-Chi. After Goku ditches Chi-Chi in the middle of Gohan's college application, forcing the Ox-King to pay through the nose to get Gohan accepted, and Goku acts nonchalant about it Chi-Chi asks for a divorce.
* HappinessInSlavery: The people that Paragus has enslaved for Vegeta's benefit are apparently okay with being violently subjugated. At least two of them outright get off on it.
* HappyEndingOverride: Done in regards to Dr. Wheelo. At the end of [[Recap/DragonBallZAbridgedM10 the previous movie]], he'd departed on good terms with the Z-Fighters after they'd used the Dragon Balls to restore his original body (albeit redesigned to hold his now-giant brain). Here, Gohan mentions offhandedly that [[BusCrash he ended up dying of brain cancer]].
* HeroicBSOD: Unlike the original, where Vegeta is driven into this due to how powerful he is, he's driven into this because of how ''cool'' he is. At the same time, his BSOD increases when he is told Broly's motivations to hate Goku[[note]]Broly got traumatized by ''three hours'' of Goku crying nonstop when they were both babies. ''That's it''[[/note]], which conflicts with how cool and ''HOW DUMB'' he is at the same time.
* HopeSpot: For a moment, it seems like Paragus actually managed to get through to Broly… then his son crushes him to death in his spacecraft.
* INeverSaidItWasPoison: Goku tells the others that he came to investigate the destruction of a galaxy, with Paragus asking who would want to destroy South Galaxy. That is the galaxy that was destroyed, but Goku didn't tell them ''which'' galaxy it was. However, Goku doesn't notice the slipup, Trunks and Gohan aren't aware of what he's talking about to be looking out for it, and Vegeta wouldn't care either way.
* InsistentTerminology: Vegeta is too prideful and stubborn to stop calling Goku by his birth name "Kakarot", as it would otherwise disrespect their Saiyan heritage. Unfortunately, it triggers Broly to the point of unleashing his Legendary Super Saiyan form.
-->'''Vegeta:''' Now, if you're done wasting everybody's time, grab your friends, grab your shit, and GO HOME, KAKAROT!\
'''Broly:''' Ghhhh!\
'''Paragus:''' Please do not say that again.\
'''Goku:''' It was ''"friends"'', wasn't it?\
'''Vegeta:''' I said SHUT IT, KAKAROT!\
'''Broly:''' Gaahhh!\
'''Paragus:''' Please! Stop saying that name!\
'''Trunks''': Father! Just call him Goku!\
'''Vegeta''': And disrepect ''my'' heritage?! I will address him with the name given to him by the glorious Saiyan race! Kakarot, Kakarot--!\
'''Broly''': KAKAROOOOOOOT!!!!!\
'''Vegeta''': See? He's slow, but he gets it.
* IronicEcho: While boasting to Vegeta about Broly's power, Paragus states that he's "not dealing with the average Saiyan warrior anymore." This is the exact phrase that Vegeta threw in Freeza's face multiple times regarding both his and Goku's powers at the end of the Namek arc. Vegeta, paralyzed in awe at Broly's strength, can only offer a weak "Nooooo." in response.
* LaserGuidedKarma: After Vegeta causes Broly to go berserk by saying "Kakarot" over and over, he finds himself getting sick of that name once Broly begins saying nothing but.
* LastSecondWordSwap: Paragus very nearly says the name 'Kakarot' in Broly's hearing, but [[OhCrap catches himself at the last syllable]] and winds up pronouncing it "Kakarku".
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Piccolo's reference to opening up the Dead Zone shows that he is unaware of Garlic Jr.'s escape from it (and unaware of the fatal encounter Garlic Jr. had with Mr. Popo). That is, unless the AlternateContinuity the ''Broly'' movie is set in doesn't include that event as part of its canon.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: The masochistic aliens were so into their punishments that they fall into despair that they forgot their SafeWord when Broly destroys their homeworld.
* MythologyGag:
** Chi-Chi's first line in the movie is, "Goku, I'm gonna show you!" This is a reference to the title of ''Goku's Gonna Show You'', an in-character Let's Play series by Creator/MasakoX featuring Goku and Gohan Γ  la ''LetsPlay/TwoSaiyansPlay'' (which is in turn a reference to the original English theme song of ''Dragon Ball'').
** When Paragus talked about "The Son of Bardock" (to avoid saying "Kararot" and trigger Broly), Vegeta refers to Bardock as "The Scientist". This is in reference to Anime/DragonBallZ's Ocean Group English dub, when Vegeta called Goku's father Bardock "a brilliant scientist" for creating artificial moons used to transform Saiyans into Great Apes/Oozarus. In truth, Bardock was just another Saiyan soldier.
** When Goku tried to figure out Broly's trigger word, one of his guesses is "Freeza with an i", referencing the western spelling of his house name.
** TheStinger has one to the original ''Manga/DragonBall'' series, with Chi-Chi telling Goku she wants a divorce and Goku mistaking it for a type of food, just like when Chi-Chi told Goku she wanted to marry him during the Red Ribbon Army arc and Goku mistaking marriage for a type of food.
** When South Kai realizes that South Galaxy is still gone, King Kai says that no Dragon Balls can restore a whole galaxy, though he believes that may not be the case. ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'' would introduce the planet-sized "Super Dragon Balls", that have the power to wish the restoration of not just a galaxy, but ''multiple universes''.
* NotMeThisTime: Goku initially thinks Cell was the one who destroyed South Galaxy, but when he questions him, it turns out that he'd never even heard of South Galaxy.
* OhCrap:
** After fighting Broly for the first time (and not doing very well), Goku tells Broly he needs to start small and work his way up to going all out... and Broly replies this ''is'' him starting small. Even Goku realizes how bad of news that is.
** Trunks has a rather big one once Broly goes Legendary Super Saiyan and directs his attention at Trunks. He literally begs Goku to get him off the planet once that happens.
** The Shamoshians get one when they realized Broly is going to destroy their planet.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
** ''[[IdiotHero Goku]]'' is intimidated by Broly's power. To the point of outright trying to pull out Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 form ''very'' early on, despite having been wanting to save it for Cell.
** While Canon!Vegeta's pride has in many occasions got in the way, to the point he almost let the world end rather than help Goku save the day, in this case, Vegeta gives energy without a word so they can get over Broly already.
* OverlyLongScream: Mercenary Tao's screen time is spent screaming in horror in Goku's presence, still remembering him as the horrific little boy who gave him the worst defeat of his life.
* PapaWolf: Piccolo to Gohan. While the rest of the series and movies up until this point have had him serving as a ParentalSubstitute who was either weary about it ("Why can't you save your ''OWN DAMN SELF?!''" in the ''Lord Slug'' movie) or understated in showing affection (hiding how touched he was about the clothes beam in Episode 55), in ''Broly'', he pretty much graduates to DotingParent. Upon rescuing Gohan, he worriedly inquires as to whether or not he needs some juice and if he got into the school he wanted (expressing a BigNo when Gohan indicates that he probably didn't). And when Gohan asks how he got to the planet, Piccolo is extremely proud of the fact that he managed to arrive immediately after Gohan called his name.
** Heck, when he first appears, the [[FunWithSubtitles Youtube closed captions]] refer to Piccolo as "Gohan's Dad".
* PlotHole: [[LampshadeHanging Pointed out]] by the subtitles; Paragus almost says "Kakarot" when he first sees Goku, but [[LastSecondWordSwap immediately changes it to Goku]] instead to avoid triggering Broly, even though he never formally learned Goku's name in any prior scene.
** Paragus had plenty of time to plan his revenge against Vegeta. He had to build the fake kingdom to lure Vegeta off Earth. He had to have known that Vegeta was even on Earth to begin with. It might not be a stretch to say Paragus scouted Vegeta and those he associated with while the kingdom was under construction.
* RunningGag: The 'Vegeta' naming convention comes back in both past and present. Goku wonders why anyone would name a planet after themselves with ''Planet/New'' Vegeta, while Paragus clarifies that he is taking revenge on ''King'' Vegeta with ''Prince'' Vegeta as a proxy. The flashback brings over the "My son, the planet, or me" gag from Episode 25.
* SayMyName:
** At one point, Paragus realizes that Broly is getting worse when Broly [[PokemonSpeak can only talk by saying "Kakarot"]].
** Goku invokes the trope verbatim when he unleashes his final attack to defeat Broly.
* SayingTooMuch: Goku says he is investigating the destruction of a galaxy, never mentioning which. Paragus responds with "But who would destroy '''SOUTH''' Galaxy???". Naturally, this passes over Goku's head.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere:
** The soldiers subjigating the alien slaves leave when Krillin starts showing his moves. They can handle "kinky", but [[NotInMyContract not paid enough to deal with "crazy"]].
** Vegeta eventually becomes dissatisfied about the new planetary "kingdom" Paragus shows him and tries to leave. While Paragus begs him to stay for another three ['roughly three and a half'] hours, Trunks telling him how Paragus is enslaving people impresses him... until the aliens mentioned how New Vegeta is about to be destroyed.
* SequelHook: After Goku breaks it to Gohan that he might not be going to his college of choice, he tries to comfort his son by saying his movie might be next. This would have been the case... if it wasn't for TFS ultimately deciding to outright ''skip'' ''Bojack Unbound'' and the rest of the movies altogether.
* ShoutOut:
** Goku proclaims that he's going to finish Broly in [[WebComic/OnePunchMan one punch, man]].
** Vegeta and Broly have an exchange that quotes lyrics from "No Church in the Wild".
* SinsOfOurFathers: Paragus acts with the goal of getting revenge on the late King Vegeta by killing Prince Vegeta.
* SkewedPriorities: Gohan's college submission being in jeopardy is at the same level of importance or higher than surviving Broly for Goku, Gohan and Piccolo.
* SplitPersonality: Broly doesn't have a PowerLimiter in this version. Instead, he has a meek, submissive, and friendly personality, and if triggered, his AxCrazy ''galaxy killing'' personality comes to the surface.
* TakeMeInstead: Parodied; the aliens Paragus enslaves keep asking the torturers to punish themselves instead of the ones who made the mistake in the first place, but that's because [[TooKinkyToTorture they want it for themselves]].
* TakeThat:
** Vegeta snaps at Broly for constantly asking about power levels, a jab at power level obsessed fans who glorify Broly.
*** Also serves as a "Take That" to power levels in general, which had ceased being relevant once Freeza came into the picture... which in-universe was four years ago.
** The movie takes no time mocking how stupid Broly's hatred for Goku is with Vegeta having a HeroicBSOD over how someone so cool looking could have such a pathetic {{wangst}}y FreudianExcuse. For the record, the reason for said hatred is "Goku cried for three hours when they were babies." That's it. It is easily the single weakest excuse for being a villain in the ''entire'' franchise, and this includes the man who created an army to find the reality-altering power of the Dragon Balls to make himself taller.
** The characters, after Broly beats them with [[CurbStompBattle very little effort]], say that they'd rather be fighting ''any'' of the previous film villains, with Vegeta in particular saying he's sick of hearing Broly say "Kakarot". A number of Team Four Star members have admitted that they dislike Broly.
** Lord Slug is excluded when the heroes talk about the previous movie villains they'd rather be fighting than Broly. Piccolo later comments on this, finding it kind of racist.
* ThisIsGonnaSuck:
** When Vegeta refuses to stop calling Goku "Kakarot", Paragus takes a quick look at Broly and suggests everyone run.
** Goku, to his credit, realizes that fighting Broly is a bad idea when the latter singles him out. Unfortunately, his BloodKnight nature overrides that, and he tells Broly to BringIt instead.
* ThirdPersonPerson: Broly lapses into this for a while.
* TookALevelInDumbass: Goku didn't know he can't breathe in space, even though in "The Final Cut (Part 3)" he knew that space was a vacuum and was surprised Freeza could breathe in space.
** Keep in mind, that was Super Saiyan Goku talking to Freeza, not regular Goku. Super Saiyan Goku gets smarter the higher the power level gets, being Gohan level of Smart when he was using Ultra Super Saiyan while demonstrating it to Gohan.
* {{Troll}}: Vegeta spends half of the movie trolling Future Trunks after Paragus mistakes him as a "princess". Trunks eventually puts a stop to it with a moratorium [[note]]a temporary ban[[/note]].
* VomitIndiscretionShot: Master Roshi gets hungover and carsick during the carriage and the scene cuts after the first second he starts to vomit.
* WackyWaysideTribe: The entire movie is basically one for the Cell Saga, as Cell is shown to still be waiting to finish his one week countdown for the Cell Games when Goku runs around asking for the identity of the person who destroyed South Galaxy.
* {{Wangst}}:
** The movie treats Broly's hatred for Goku, stemming from the latter crying when they were infants, as this in-universe. Especially since, unlike in the movie, Goku was only next to Broly for about three hours when they were infants yet his name is still enough to trigger Broly. Vegeta has a HeroicBSOD over how stupid it is that the Legendary Super Saiyan is motivated by something that whiny. [[invoked]]
** For that matter, Vegeta's HeroicBSOD over Broly's flimsy, {{Wangst}}y motivation is also seen as {{Wangst}} by Piccolo.
* WaxingLyrical: Vegeta and Broly quote "[[Music/KanyeWest No Church in the Wild]]" during their dueling {{Badass Boast}}s.
* WhatTheHellHero:
** Paragus calls out King Vegeta for wanting to kill his son despite Broly having the potential to be a weapon against Freeza, being already insanely strong out of the crib.
** Much like in the actual movie, Piccolo calls Vegeta out for staying on the sidelines having his HeroicBSOD while everyone else is fighting for their lives. He even calls Vegeta a giant baby for whining about how stupid Broly's FreudianExcuse is.
* YouMonster: Strangely, out of all of his former foes that are still alive to be considered viable suspects for the destruction of South Galaxy, Goku only considers the [[GoldfishPoopGang Pilaf Gang]] to be this.
** The elder Shaomoan slaves call one of Paragus' soldiers this when ordered to lick his boots, though [[TooKinkyToTorture it's not out of spite]].
