As Cisco, Harry, Earth-2 Iris and Barry prepare to rescue Barry, Jay and Caitlin grapple to stop the Geomancer and stabilize Jay's speed.
----

* AccidentalAimingSkills: Caitlin hits Geomancer in the neck with the B.O.O.T...while aiming for his leg.
* AmbiguousSituation: Did Frost actually double-cross the gang, then change her mind? Or did Zoom just assume that she was still working for him, and she didn't want to correct him?
* ArcWords: During his speech to Barry-1, Barry-2 says that he did "the impossible" that day.
* AscendedMeme: Before Cisco does it for real, Killer Frost was referred to as "[[WesternAnimation/Frozen2013 Elsa]]" by fans as early as her EarlyBirdCameo in the Season 1 finale.
* BittersweetEnding: Barry, Cisco and Harry successfully rescues Jesse from Zoom and gets back to Earth-1, but Zoom apparently kills Jay just as he got his speed back and the masked man that was with Barry and Jesse was left imprisoned.
* BrickJoke: Minutes after Cisco calls Killer Frost "[[WesternAnimation/Frozen2013 Elsa]]", she proceeded to make an ice stairway similar to what the character did in the now famous "Let It Go" sequence.
* CardCarryingVillain: Geomancer loves to "watch heroes fall and never get back up."
* TheCavalryArrivesLate: Jay comes to the Cortex only after Geomancer has trashed the place.
* CelebrityParadox: Cisco calls Killer Frost "Elsa" in a ''WesternAnimation/{{Frozen|2013}}'' ShoutOut. Thing is, Creator/IdinaMenzel (who voices said character) was part of the original cast of ''Theatre/{{RENT}}'' with Jesse L. Martin (Joe West). The film also has Creator/JonathanGroff who, along with Menzel, was a cast member of ''Series/{{Glee}}'' with Creator/GrantGustin (Barry himself).
* {{Cliffhanger}}: The episode ends with Jay seemingly dying literally by Zoom's hand and being dragged back to Earth-2.
* DefectorFromDecadence: Killer Frost turns on Zoom because he killed Ronnie.
* DespairEventHorizon: The masked man lost it when Barry and Jesse failed to get his message, [[FateWorseThanDeath and who can blame him]].
* EnemyMine: Cisco invokes this trip in an effort to get Killer Frost on their side in their battle against Zoom.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Even though she was actually leading Team Flash into a trap under Zoom's orders, Killer Frost ultimately turns on him because she remembered Ronnie via Zoom preparing to kill Jesse in front of Wells.
* EventTitle: The title refers to the heroes escaping from Zoom's clutches.
* {{Expy}}: Scott Evans wants to use Central City News to start a crusade against a superhero for no good reason. [[ComicBook/SpiderMan Sound familiar]]?
* GoshDangItToHeck: After being abducted at superspeed, getting tased by his doppelganger, and finally handcuffed to a locker for a day, Barry-2 demands to know what the HECK is going on here this instant!
* HopeSpot:
** Zoom delivers a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown to Barry in his cell out of spite, and it gives Barry the idea of how to escape (namely, {{Intangibility}}). He doesn't actually get it to work until Barry-2 gives him a pep talk.
** Even when their last moments on Earth-2 are quite harrowing, Team Flash (and Jesse) manage to escape back to Earth-1, and Jay immediately closes the breach in the Speed Cannon, yet Zoom manages to reach through the deteriorating breach to kidnap Jay.
** Velocity-9 looks like it is on its way to save Jay, but then he gets forcibly whisked back to Earth-2 by Zoom. In a meta example, for fans, this means that two Flashes running side by side is still a long ways to go.
* InsistentTerminology: Cisco keeps calling Killer Frost "Caitlin" when trying to convince her to help, ignoring her protests she doesn't use that name any more.
* InternalReveal: Team Flash lets Barry-2 and Iris-2 in on their mission. As a detective, the latter doesn't actually seem surprised.
* IronicEcho: Continuing the trend of showing parallelisms of the two Earths, the scene after Caitlin saves Iris in Earth-1 was followed by Earth-2 Iris (and the others) holding Killer Frost at gunpoint.
* IShallReturn: At the end of the episode, Barry promises the masked man he'll return for him.
* ItsALongStory: When Barry-2 demands an explanation about what's going on, both Harry and Cisco told him this trope.
* KickTheDog: At the last minute of the episode, Zoom grabs Jay (possibly killing him) and drags him back to Earth-2. And with all the breaches closed, Team Flash won't be getting him back anytime soon.
* MeaningfulEcho: When Jay plans to get the rift up and running again and Caitlin advises against it, he tells her "I have to try", a line that has been used by Barry several times. The last time was in the season 1 finale, when he too was about to contain a portal.
* MythologyGag:
** Skipping Velocity-8 and going right to Velocity-9 brings the serum from the comics into the Series/{{Arrowverse}}.
** The Caitlin Snow version of Killer Frost does her AntiHero stance in the comics against Zoom.
* NonActionGuy: Barry-2's physical incompetence was highlighted a lot in the episode.
* NotSoDifferentRemark:
** Cisco tries to play on the similarities between Caitlin and Killer Frost so the latter will help them find Zoom's SupervillainLair.
** Barry praises his Earth-2 counterpart's bravery, stating that despite the latter being a NonActionGuy, both of them will not leave any of their loved ones behind even if they'll get into trouble while doing so.
* PyrrhicVictory: Barry, Cisco, and Wells manage to rescue Jesse, but Earth-2 Joe (in addition to many other Earth-2 residents) dies, the masked man is still a prisoner of Zoom, Earth-2 Barry and Iris have to go into hiding, Jay is taken (and potentially killed) by Zoom, and Zoom is now ''seriously'' pissed off at Barry and co.
* ShoutOut:
** Cisco calls Killer Frost "[[WesternAnimation/Frozen2013 Elsa.]]"
** Cisco says "[[Franchise/BackToTheFuture This is Heavy]]" when talking to Barry-2.
** Cisco calls the cliff leading to Zoom's Lair the "[[Film/ThePrincessBride Cliffs of Insanity.]]"
* SkewedPriorities: Jesse doesn't want to leave Earth-2 despite an evil entity who kidnapped her for almost a year is still lurking by and is hunting her and her father. She more or less treats them fleeing to the other world for their lives as if she was being sent to a different school.
* SupervillainLair: The gang finds Zoom's hideout. Lampshaded word-per-word by Cisco.
* SwissCheeseSecurity: It strikes again. Geomancer randomly walks into Star Labs because he felt like it. He doesn't even bother to explain how he tracked Jay there.
* TrailersAlwaysSpoil: The promo for the season's second half featured Killer Frost saying "It's so much more fun to be bad," which hadn't happened by the time of her apparent sacrifice here.
* TyrantTakesTheHelm: Central City Picture News' new editor Scott Evans is not as gung ho about Central City's resident superhero as the last one, and plans to start a smear campaign against him, much to Iris' chagrin.
* UngratefulBastard: Scott Evans, the new editor for the news, treats the Flash as if he is worthless and everyone should give up on him being a hero after he has been gone for only a few days. Iris even calls him out on this fact, pointing out the fact the Flash has saved them all countless times.
* TheUnReveal: We've yet to find out who that masked man Zoom holding prisoner is; we only know that he has some connection to Jay.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Both Hewitt and Killer Frost where last seen facing Zoom, their death however isn't shown, so it remains ambiguous if they are still alive or not. Likewise, Floyd Lawton is not shown after he was thrown by Reverb.
* WeaksauceWeakness: Zoom is vulnerable to an ice blast just like Barry...except he shakes it off.
