!!Tropes:

* AdvertisedExtra: Or rather, advertised ''outfits''. Most of the promotional images focused on Sara, Nate and Gary dressed up as Supergirl, Green Arrow and the Flash. They even made it into a trailer for the season as a tentpole moment, but the sequence is brief at best.
* AllPowerfulBystander: The Monitor could have easily stopped Neron and Tabitha in their tracks at Heyworld, but he instead simply chose to watch and eat popcorn.
* AndroclesLion: Mithra had imprinted on Young Zari. In the finale, even when Tabitha forcibly aged the dragon, Young Zari steps in, and Mithra refuses to attack her.
* AngerBornOfWorry: John and Nora give Ray what for for giving himself up to Neron, but they calm down when he tells them he did it to save Nate.
* BagOfKidnapping: Happens to the baby dragon when Kid Zari presents him to her friends at school and an overzealous teacher uses Neron's app to call the authorities.
* BaitAndSwitch: During their last heart-to-heart talk, Hank tells Nate that he had faith. Nate believes that Hank was referring to up "above", but Hank was actually referring to Nate and his friends.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Zari successfully hacked the timeline to avoid her bad future. Unfortunately, she has long since realized this means erasing the experiences she had with the Legends, specifically her newfound relationship with Nate.
* BigDamnHeroes:
** Nora stops Calibraxis from torturing John.
** Young/Present Day Zari defending Sara when Tabitha sics the dragon (which turns out to be the same dragon Zari befriended). He promptly turns on Tabitha and devours her.
* TheBigDamnKiss:
** Ava gives a platonic, one-sided one to Mick when he reveals he already broke into the Bureau's vault to steal the Journal of Brigid.
** Nora gives one to Ray upon finding him in Hell.
** Nate and Zari get one when he's revived.
* BittersweetEnding: Ray is saved from Hell, Neron and Tabitha are destroyed for good, Hey World is a massive success, and Nate is brought back to life after getting killed, and even Gary seems to be getting the respect he wanted (Sara acknowledges him as a Legend, at least)...but due to the alterations to 2019, Zari's timeline resets to her never being with the Legends and replaced with her brother, and no-one realizes the change happened, and Astra is ''much'' further gone than anyone realizes. (as in, recruiting some of the most evil historical figures in Hell for some future EvilPlan. We're talking ''Hell Lord ambitions.'')
* BrickJoke: Barry, Oliver and Kara were contacted to help make a commercial for Hey World. Their response?
-->'''Zari:''' Uh, guys, I-I feel like that would've worked a little bit better with the ''real'' Trinity...\
'''Sara:''' Yeah, well, I asked, and they said ''[pointedly turns to Nate]'' [[Recap/LegendsOfTomorrowS4E8LegendsOfToMeowMeow "Hard pass"]].\
'''Nate:''' ''[resigned]'' We should've done [[Series/Elseworlds2018 the crossover]].
* TheBusCameBack:
** Vandal Savage of all people. He's turned over a new leaf in Hell and he and Ray have become [=BFFs=].
** Hank Heywood makes a short reappearance, briefly talking to Nate as a spirit after the latter pulls a HeroicSacrifice and then (literally) pushing his son back into life.
* ButterflyOfDoom: As revealed in an interview with the producers (and shown the next season), the baby dragon is the reason why Zari and her brother switched places. She became a viral sensation thanks to Mithra.
* CallBack: Nate is revived to Music/JamesTaylor's "[[Recap/LegendsOfTomorrowS4E6TenderIsTheNate Sweet Baby James]]".
* CelebrityEndorsement: The Legends advertise Hey World with the Arrowverse trinity (Supergirl, Green Arrow and Flash). However, it's actually Sara, Nate and Gary respectively, wearing costumes.
* CelebrityEndorsement: The Legends wanted to use the Arrowverse Trinity to advertise Hey World, but there was a slight problem...
* ChekhovsGun:
** Brigid's diary turns out to be the key to defeat Neron in this episode, as it's used to create Hey World.
** John establishes early on that he can glamour himself to look like someone else. The climax is dependent on him and Nate doing this to switch places and trick Neron into breaking his deal.
* ChildrenAreInnocent: The kids at Zari's school aren't scared by the baby dragon. They actually think he's adorable... until a xenophobic adult stirs up trouble.
* ClapYourHandsIfYouBelieve: A variation: after Constantine states that he would need access to powerful magic in order to bring Nate back to life, a little prompting by Hank's ghost[[note]]in the form of making Mick sing a portion of "Sweet Baby James"[[/note]] makes the gang realize that the only way they can save Nate is [[ThePowerOfLove a group rendition of "Sweet Baby James"]].
-->'''Sara:''' ''[to the crowd of people]'' Everyone, if you want to see Nate up and kicking, he needs to hear your voices right now!
* TheComicallySerious: The Monitor briefly munches on popcorn while watching the Legends get booed. Otherwise, he's not played for jokes whatsoever.
* ContinuityNod:
** Charlie is forced to transform into the monster Tagumo to strike fear into people's hearts.
** Just like the Legends themselves gave a "Hard Pass" for the annual crossover to the rest of the Arrowverse heroes, the other heroes now decline their request to participate in Heyworld.
** The Monitor makes an appearance, though instead of warning the Legends about the coming crisis, he simply eats some popcorn and enjoys the show.
** Mick is very happy to [[Recap/LegendsOfTomorrowS4E1TheVirginGary finally see a dragon]].
** Once again, "Sweet Baby James" by James Taylor, initiated by Hank Heywood (and in another nod, briefly possessing Mick), saves the day.
* {{Corpsing}}: [[invoked]]While posing as Supergirl for the Hey World commercial, Sara can't get through her lines without laughing.
* DidYouJustScamCthulhu: Neron is eventually defeated by his own contract with Ray: Since the terms of the agreement hinge on keeping Nate alive, the latter disguises himself as Constantine and goads Neron into killing him, rendering the deal null and void and expelling Neron from Ray's body.
* DisneyDeath: Nate is killed by Neron, but is quickly revived thanks to ThePowerOfLove.
* DramaticWind: Zari [[MundaneUtility uses her powers]] to invoke this effect for the airing of the Hey World commercial.
* EatenAlive: Tabitha's ultimate fate, courtesy of the dragon.
* EmotionEater: Tabitha's staff feeds on emotions, which in this case is fear. The Legends later use the staff to channel another emotion: love.
* EnemyMine: John and Nora go to Astra for help in recovering Ray's soul. She agrees only so she can collect the souls of some of the most wicked people in history for her own gains.
* EurekaMoment:
** After seeing that the baby dragon has gone viral, Nate realizes that building his dad's theme park is the key to pacifying people's fears about magic.
** Zari realizes that they can give Nate the Journal of Brigid to speed up the construction of his dad's theme park.
* EvilGloating: Averted, Tabitha has taught Neron to avoid this trope.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Tabitha knowing all along that there's more to Charlie than being a mere shapeshifter. Charlie's true identity becomes important in the next season.
* FreezeFrameBonus: The visible coins being weighed show the names Charles Manson, John Wayne Gacy, Mary Tudor, Lizzie Borden, Caligula, Joseph Stalin and Rasputin.
* GoKartingWithBowser: Since Ray has been sent to Hell, he's been playing games like Jenga with Vandal Savage (who was originally sent to torture him). Savage then even tells Ray to say hi to the Legends for him.
* TheHeist: Nora, John and Astra break into the Soul Vault to save Ray's soul.
* HellOnEarth: Neron's ultimate goal is to use people's fear to power a portal big enough to unleash all of the LegionsOfHell.
* HeroicSacrifice: Nate has Constantine put a {{Glamour}} on him to trick Neron into killing him, thereby nullifying the deal he made with Ray so John can both kill the demon and restore Ray's soul to his body.
* HistoryRepeats: This is twice now a relationship of Nate's had to end due to changes to the timeline.
* HopelessSuitor: Gary tries to hug Mona when Nate returns to life, but she blows him off.
* HypocriticalHumor: Charlie warns Mike the Spike off of swearing, not wanting to get on the wrong side of the "wankers" at Standards & Practices.
* IJustWantToBeLoved: Frederic, the Ogre, tells Mona how frustrating it is when people just run away from him before even getting to know him.
* InSpiteOfANail:
** As it happens[[note]]judging by Sara's explanation in BrickJoke and Nate's response[[/note]], [[Recap/LegendsOfTomorrowS4E8LegendsOfToMeowMeow temporal shenanigans or no]], the Legends ''still'' wound up opting out of the crossover with a blunt "Hard pass."
** While Zari may have no longer joined the Legends, her brother winds up taking her spot on the team (since he was the original Wind Totem bearer and all).
* InternalReveal: Averted. Ray quickly glosses over Vandal Savage's comment about them fighting over a girl, clearly not ready to talk to Nora about his ex-girlfriend.
* IronicEcho: The Legends seek Green Arrow, Oliver, and Supergirl for help, [[Recap/LegendsOfTomorrowS4E8LegendsOfToMeowMeow but they respond with "hard pass"]]. They then lament they didn't do [[Series/Elseworlds2018 the crossover]].
* ItsAllMyFault: Charlie blames herself for being used as a pawn in Neron's scheme, although she snaps out of it in time to take part in the Legends' plan.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Played for comedy. Barry, Kara, and Oliver blow off the Legends' call for help in filming a commercial for Hey World partially because they blew them off in the Elseworlds crossover.
* LastEpisodeNewCharacter: Behrad, Zari's brother, showing up in the last few moments of the episode.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: So hard they almost break it.
** They outright mention they weren't in this year's crossover, and during the show they utter the phrase "don't call (them) heroes" which was the catchphrase of the intro during season 2. And they call the group "The Legends of Tomorrow" although ironically they refer to the superheroes from the ''other'' Arrowverse shows. (InUniverse, this shows team have always been called simply the Legends.)
** The line "People need franchise superheroes to feel safe. That's how we're going to get them in the door." could be seen as a nod to the notion that while the premise of ''Series/LegendsOfTomorrow'' is essentially original, the main characters themselves all hail from Franchise/TheDCU.
** Charlie warning Mike about swearing so they don't get in trouble with standards and practices.
* MagicMusic: Everybody singing "Sweet Baby James" is what produces enough love for Nate to be reanimated.
* ManHug: Nate's desperate romantic hug with Zari turns into an awkward example of this when she's replaced by her brother Behrad.
* MotivatedByFear: Even though the Legends disabled his app, the fear Neron has sown on Earth is enough to open the Gates of Hell and sway Hell's Legions to his side.
* MusicalNod: The musical cues of Supergirl, Green Arrow, and Flash's respective shows play during the Legends filming a commercial for Heyworld.
* MyFriendsAndZoidberg: When the Legends sound off at the end.
-->'''Sara:''' Alright time bros...
-->'''Ava:''' ...and time ladies...
-->'''Charlie:''' ...and time monsters...
-->'''Mona:''' ...and...Gary?
* MythologyGag:
** Sara refers to Flash, Green Arrow, and Supergirl as "The Trinity", which is the term used to describe Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman in the comics.
** Also, Vandal Savage has turned up reformed but a little crazy [[Recap/JusticeLeagueS2E19And20Hereafter before]].
* NewEraSpeech: Neron gives a brief one to the other demons as he prepares to unleash them on Earth.
* NoJustNoReaction: The Legends asked Oliver, Barry, and Kara to film their commercial for Hey World and they all refused -- even sunny optimists Barry and Kara. Going by Nate's comments, it's their payback for the Legends refusing to be in the [[Series/Elseworlds2018 crossover]] last fall.
* OddFriendship: While in Hell, Ray managed to strike up a friendship with Vandal Savage, who had been sent to torture him.
* PaperThinDisguise: Astra sees right through John taking Neron's disguise.
* PassThePopcorn: Rather than engage in his usual ominous, pseudo-villainous behavior, the Monitor's involvement amounts to him watching the Legends' show and munching on popcorn.
* PeoplePuppets: Charlie becomes one for Tabitha who uses her magic powers to force her to shape shift into people and Lovecraftian horrors against her will all to scare people into selling their souls.
* ThePlace: The title refers to Nate's theme park.
* ThePowerOfLove: This, along with a group rendition of "Sweet Baby James", allows Constantine to revive Nate after he's been killed by Neron.
* RapidAging: Tabitha put a spell on the baby dragon that made him a full-grown one. Notably, after he turns on Tabitha and devours her, [[NoOntologicalInertia he becomes a baby again]].
* ThisIsReality: After doing some quick math, Nate realizes that it would take two or three ''years'' to build Hey World the old-fashioned way.
* RetGone: Zari vanishes due to stepping out of the ''Waverider'' during the changing present.
* RuleOfFunny:
** The only reason Oliver, Barry, and Kara would refuse to help save the world.
** Supergirl's popularity on Earth-1, even though she's only been there three times for a couple of days at most.
* SeasonFinale: The show's fourth.
* SequelHook:
** Astra released some damned souls she took from Neron's vault into the world.
** Zari getting [=McFlyed=], which the Legends will notice sooner or later. Who knows where and when she herself, with a new history, will turn up.
** Surprisingly averted with ''Series/{{Crisis on Infinite Earths|2019}}''; despite the Monitor making a cameo there's no tease for the crossover, although his presence makes it clear that he has his eye on the Legends.
* ShoutOut:
** The famous line from ''Film/FieldOfDreams'' is paraphrased while Sara and Ava are discussing about Heyworld.
--->'''Sara:''' If we build it—
--->'''Ava:''' They will come.
** "The happiest place in the world", the motto of Heyworld, is a spoof on Ride/WaltDisneyWorld's "the happiest place on Earth".
** Tabitha orders Mithra to kill the Legends by saying "[[KillItWithFire burn them all!]]", a possible reference to the MadnessMantra of Aerys Targaryen from ''Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire''. For bonus points, Mithra is a dragon, while Aerys believed that he would transform into a dragon after burning himself alive, not to mention his daughter, Daenerys, is famous for riding literal dragons.[[note]]Some have noted that it might even be a spoof to an infamous scene in the final season of ''Series/GameOfThrones'', but Season 4 of ''[=LoT=]'' and Season 8 of ''[=GoT=]'' were filmed concurrently (in fact, the ''[=GoT=]'' episode that contains said scene aired just a week before the ''[=LoT=]'' episode), so they must have been a coincidence.[[/note]]
* ShutUpKiss: Nora gives Ray one after finding him.
* SoProudOfYou: Hank tells Nate he's proud of him and the Legends before the latter comes back to life.
* StealthPun: The real names of two of the Trinity compared to the Legends that impersonated them.[[note]]S'''ara'''/K'''ara''', and Gary obviously sounds like Barry. Nate/Oliver is the only one without a name comparison.[[/note]]
* TakeThat: Neron's NewEraSpeech ends with him promising to "make Earth Hell again".
* TookALevelInCheerfulness: Vandal Savage has become a lot more jovial after an unknown amount of time in Hell. He plays a game with Ray, putting their past differences aside, even though he's supposed to be torturing him. However, it's unlikely he'd have the ''job'' of torturer if he refused to harm ''anybody,'' so maybe don't put the "good guy" label on him just yet.
* TrailersAlwaysLie: In-Universe, the Legends release an advertisement for Hey World that makes it seem like it's based around the setting's famous superheroes (even Supergirl, despite her being from another Earth and having only appeared a few times on the one they're on), since they know the frightened public wouldn't bring their children to see magical creatures and beasts if they knew.
* WeirdCurrency: In Hell, the demons use damned souls as currency. For each soul there is a token that can be traded amongst them.
* WhamShot: After getting revived, Nate embraces Zari and gives her a kiss...but when he pulls back she's replaced by her brother.
* WistfulAmnesia: Though the timeline is rewritten so that Zari is replaced by her brother, Nate has a heartbroken expression and a sense that something is missing as he adjusts to his resurrection, confused that he's hugging Behrad.
* WritingAroundTrademarks: The episode seemed determined to keep skirting the line of pissing off Disney's lawyers by trying to see how far they can get away with emulating the phrase "The happiest place on Earth" without outright saying it.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: Mona convinces the magical creatures that each one of them has a hidden talent and that it's best for them to show the world that they are not something to be afraid of.
* YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe:
** John's reaction when he hears of the plan of using Heyworld to defeat Neron.
** Mick says this word for word upon seeing the Minotaur singing and playing the guitar.
