----
!!Large Brother, Where Trope Thou:
* AmbiguouslyBi: One of the things Gene tries to do to scare off Logan is claiming he has a boyfriend who's about to come home any minute.
* BigBrotherInstinct: The crux of the episode is that Gene doesn't really have one. He comes through when Logan corners the two of them.
* BrickJoke: Early in the episode Louise states that she doesn't really think of Gene as her "Big Brother" so much as her "Large Brother," since he doesn't do stereotypical "Big Brother" things like defend her from bullies or call her nicknames like "Shrimp." At the end, after Gene ''does'' protect her from Logan, Louise hugs him and calls him a "great large brother," to which Gene replies, "Anytime, Shrimp."
* ContinuityNod:
** This episode takes place during the town's annual celebration of [[Recap/BobsBurgersS1E12Lobsterfest Lobsterfest]], and Bob once again expresses his distaste for the event.
** Chariot from [[Recap/BobsBurgersS4E17TheEquestranauts "The Equestranauts"]] appears during Tina's musical fantasy sequence.
* ADayInTheLimelight: The first (and so far only) episode to place the main focus on Louise and Gene's dynamic without Tina in the picture.
* DetentionEpisode: Tina's storyline involves her purposely getting detention so she can try to hook up with a boy there.
* DisproportionateRetribution:
** Discussed; Bob thinks that the Belchers' accountant will remove a dependent from their taxes if they don't laugh at his jokes.
** Logan had a right to be mad at Louise for pelting him with a moldy cantaloupe, but threatening physical assault and later following through on it was too far.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: Gene getting the "Reverse Norwegian Stink-Hold" is framed as a murder scene.
* AFateWorseThanDeath: Logan thinks of the "Reverse Norwegian Stink-Hold" as this.
-->'''Logan:''' It'll only take a minute, but you'll remember it for the rest of your life!
* ImagineSpot: Gene gets one when explaining to Louise what the Reverse Norwegian Stink-Hold is.
* IntoxicationEnsues: Gerald accidentally gives Bob and Linda pot-laced cookies, and all three go through a freak-out.
* {{Irony}}: With a dose of hypocrisy to boot. Louise comments about Gene's lack of maturity considering he's her older brother. Even before Gene proves his BigBrotherInstinct by saving Louise from Logan, the episode's main conflict starts from Louise acting extremely immaturely and ignoring Gene's more rational suggestions (such as not throwing the melon and apologizing to Logan).
* KarmaHoudini: Logan gives Gene the Stink-Hold and doesn't get punished for vengefully terrorizing him and Louise over a petty prank.
* LamePunReaction: Bob and Linda don't really like Gerald's terrible accounting jokes, but laugh anyway in order to be polite.
* LovingAShadow: Tina thinks that just because a boy threw a glance her way, that he's romantically interested in her. She learns the hard way that he wasn't, and had thus spent a whole day in detention for nothing.
* MatureYoungerSibling: Louise views herself as this to Gene, to the point she can't properly view him as her older brother. Subverted when Gene initially suggests that dropping a cantaloupe off the fire escape would be a bad idea (though Louise convinces him to go along with it), when he tries to stop her from dropping it on the teens, and when he takes the Stink-Hold for Louise.
* MoodWhiplash: Gene is given the Stink-Hold while Louise is ForcedToWatch, with appropriately dramatic music. Cut to Bob, Linda, and their accountant sitting quietly in their couch fort.
* NiceGuy: Bob and Linda's accountant is a bit loose and kooky, but otherwise a neat dude.
* NoodleIncident: The moldy cantaloupe originated from an incident three years prior to the series when Linda put it under her shirt and pretended she had a third boob, which then forced her to buy it.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: [[EnfantTerrible Louise]] actually starts crying when Logan corners her, something she's only done [[Recap/BobsBurgersS1E9SpaghettiWesternAndMeatballs once before]] in the series. It's acknowledged in-universe; Logan is quite surprised to see this ([[{{Jerkass}} it doesn't stop him from trying to give her the Reverse Norwegian Stink-Hold, though]]).
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Frond actually tries to reverse Tina's detention when she apologizes for knocking over the books and insulting his mother, because she's usually a good kid. However, because Tina ''wants'' detention, she insults him again to make him change his mind.
* RiddleForTheAges: How Logan got the Belchers' ''personal'' phone number is unknown.
* SanityBall: Gene actually hesitates to toss the moldy cantaloupe, knowing that it could get him and Louise in trouble if it hits something or someone (which it does). He ''especially'' freaks out when he sees that Louise is trying to target ''Logan''. After the damage is done, Gene even suggests they just apologize and not piss Logan off further, and Louise ignoring this advice is what causes Logan to decide to give her the Reverse Norwegian Stink-Hold.
* ShadowDiscretionShot: Logan giving Gene the "Reverse Norwegian Stink-Hold" is staged this way.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: Gene tells Bob during their call that no melons were thrown. Because Bob is currently high, he doesn't pick up on it.
* TakeMeInstead: Gene offers to get punished by Logan instead of Louise. Logan tries to get him to move, but Louise ultimately gets spared at the cost of Gene's sense of smell.
* TakeThat: When their accountant remarks that he was gonna do stand-up comedy as a backup plan if accounting fell through, Bob remarks that he could do bad stand-up and claims "that's really popular".
* TearsOfFear: Louise sheds a few when Logan corners her.
* ThrowingTheDistraction: Logan tricks Gene and Louise into opening the front door by throwing his shoe through the kitchen window, making them think that he was inside the house.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Gene and Louise's plotline is pretty much only because Tina gave herself detention to ogle a boy, leaving her unable to babysit her siblings.
* YourMom: Tina insults Mr. Frond's mother as the final straw to give herself detention.
