However, the venue, Boat Race Karatsu, instead uses a pari-mutuel system and collects winnings from all bets made. So what happened is that not many people bet on Misa to win, possible considering the reputation she was picking up, thus bumping her odds of winning from 6:1 all the way to 21.3:1.
