6	"Bastogne" is episode six of ''Band of Brothers''. This is told from the perspective of Easy Company's Medic – Eugene Roe. Easy Company has to hold ground near Bastogne – amid freezing winter conditions. The episode shows how Eugene goes about his business, trying to help the men when medical supplies are low. He also strikes up a small friendship with a Belgian nurse at a nearby aid station.

In an earlier episode, we learned that his EmbarrassingNickname among the men was "Gonorrhea". While it's never explicitly confirmed what he's suffering from, one of the symptoms of gonorrhea is, in fact, pain when urinating.[[note]]In total fairness to Guarnere, it's just as likely to be a urinary tract infection, which can tend to flare up in extreme cold conditions such as the men are experiencing in this episode.[[/note]]

38	* ItNeverGetsAnyEasier: Deconstructed. It's shown that Eugene is keeping himself separated from the men, in an attempt to keep himself from being affected by their deaths. However once he starts to bond with the others (with Babe at least anyway) he finds that yes ItGetsEasier.
39	* LastNameBasis: Eugene is like this with the men at first. The end of the episode implies this is changing.
40	* LowerDeckEpisode: Eugene is in the background for most of the other episodes, with the majority of focus being given to the officers and the privates. Here he gets a whole episode revolving around his job as a medic.
41	* TheMedic: Shown from the perspective of one – and showing just how much is expected of the role.
42	* TheNotLoveInterest: Renee and Eugene definitely form some kind of connection in the brief time they know each other, but the former dies before anything can come of it. For what it's worth, Eugene was already married at this point.

52	** Despite the freezing conditions they're in, Winters still insists on shaving and Perconte insists on brushing his teeth[[note]]Given the situation they're in, Winters likely did his best to ''not'' look overwhelmed and ragged by the conditions: if the men see that their commanders aren't keeping it together, it drastically erodes morale. Contrast with Lt. Dike, who in the next episode doesn't look quite as well-kept[[/note]].

Instead he notices that the medic is on the verge of a HeroicBSOD and suggests he go into town for a hot meal. This is likely both out of affection and practicality – as Eugene is likely to perform better afterwards.
