Due to being extremely gritty and realistic, especially in the way it depicts of violence and crime, The Shield can and will haunt viewers sensitive to such graphic material.
* [[RuthlessForeignGangsters Armando “Armadillo” Quintero]] in general. He's first introduced 'necklacing' rival gangsters, which only hints as the brutal animal that lives within him. He kills and brutalizes dozens of people without remorse or shame, merely saying the world isn't fair when confronted about his crimes. Not even [[WouldHurtAChild children]] are immune to his wrath and sadism. What makes him even more scary is ''he's really smart'', knowing how to bend the law to his advantage so he won't have to face justice for his actions. He very nearly outsmarts Vic, himself not a stranger to [[ManipulativeBastard manipulation]] and [[IndyPloy thinking on his feet.]]
** There’s one moment involving him that particularly stands out in this regard. Armadillo Quintero gets arrested. He's a known murderer and rapist. A 12-year-old girl, against the wishes of her family, tells the police that he killed some people. He's held for several hours, in which he finds one of the girl's hair clips which fell off in the interrogation room while they were interviewing her. After they're forced to release him for lack of evidence, the girl disappears...then reappears in a daze, with a dove tattooed on her face--something established earlier in the episode as the mark Quintero left on a girl that he had raped and brutalized.
* "Cherrypoppers": Undercover as a pedophile, Vic is [[ForcedToWatch forced to watch]] an underage girl have sex with an adult male in a room full of pedophiles in order to obtain probable cause for a no-knock warrant.
* Some of the squatters in the Season 1 finale. Friendly reminder that empty and abandoned buildings in urban areas can contain some... kooky characters.
* [[TheDreaded Margos Dezerian]]. He [[TheQuietOne barely speaks a word]], yet he savagely murders and mutilates dozens of people without a shred of remorse or emotion in general. He's so terrifying that his fellow Armenian gangsters are scared into silence by his mere presence. It is dampened a little with how quickly Vic kills him...though it could also count as an awesome moment too.
* Ronnie Gardocki's ultimate fate, being arrested and made into {{the scapegoat}} for the crimes of the Strike Team, especially having been LockedOutOfTheLoop. In a situation where being stabbed to death during your first night in county lock-up awaiting trial is considered the LEAST awful thing that could happen to you, the scenario is made even more horrifying when you consider that Ronnie was the least evil of all of the Strike Team members, meaning his fate is literally {{a fate worse than death}}. He's going to be only too happy to spill his guts about what Vic ''didn't'' tell Olivia.
