''The Stooges'' is the debut studio album by Music/TheStooges, released in 1969. It is best known for hits such as "1969", "I Wanna Be Your Dog" and "No Fun". 32* AlbumFiller: The band only had five songs written when they were due to record their first album (namely: "I Wanna Be Your Dog", "No Fun", "1969", "Ann" and "We Will Fall"). Iggy bluffed and said they had "hundreds" when the record company said there weren't enough songs. According to legend, half the album was written in a hurry the night before the first session.
* AnnualTitle: "1969", consequently the year this album was released.
* BleakLevel: "No Fun".
--> ''No fun''
--> ''No fun to be alone''
--> ''Walking by myself''
--> ''No fun to be alone''
--> ''In love with nobody else''
* BrokenRecord: The chanting of "We Will Fall" just goes on and on. At a certain point Iggy starts saying "Goodbye" and repeats it several times, almost to indicate that they can stop now.
* ContinuityNod: This album has a song named "1969". The next, ''Music/{{Fun House|Album}}'' would have a song named "1970".
* DespairEventHorizon and DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife:
** "1969"
--> ''Well it's 1969 OK all across the USA''
--> ''It's another year for me and you''
--> ''Another year with nothing to do''
--> ''Last year I was 21 I didn't have a lot of fun''
--> ''And now I'm gonna be 22 I say oh my and a boo-hoo''
** "No Fun".
--> ''No fun to be around''
* EpicRocking: "We Will Fall", which is more than 10 minutes long.
* ExtremeDoormat: "I Wanna Be Your Dog".
--> ''Now I wanna... be your dog''
* FaceOnTheCover: Iggy's face is much closer in view on the album cover, than the rest of the band.
* GriefSong: "No Fun" and "1969."
* IntercourseWithYou: "I Wanna Be Your Dog," "Little Doll," and "Real Cool Time."
-->''Now we're gonna be face to face''
-->''And I'll lay right down in my favorite place''
-->''And now I wanna be your dog''
* LargeHam: "1969:"
-->''Well, it's 1969, baaaay-baaaaaaay aaaaaaaaargl!''
* LastNoteNightmare: Inverted with "I Wanna Be Your Dog", which opens on a riff with lots of feedback.
* NothingExcitingEverHappensHere: "No Fun."
* TheNotRemix: Music/JohnCale originally planned to use a different mix from what ended up on the final release of the album, but it was rejected by the record company. However, it would later appear on reissues of the album alongside the mix from the original 1969 release.
* ObligatoryBondageSong: "I Wanna Be Your Dog," about a man who wants to be treated as a dog, by a woman he finds sexy.
* OminousChanting: "We Will Fall."
* OneWomanSong: "Ann" and "Little Doll."
* RecordProducer: Music/JohnCale. He also plays the piano in "I Wanna Be Your Dog".
* SelfTitledAlbum: As many debut albums.
* ShoutOut:
** "No Fun" was famously covered by Music/SexPistols during concert tours. It would also be the final song they played, before suddenly splitting up in 1978, after an American tour. [[Music/JohnLydon Johnny Rotten]] commented that at that point, they were well past the point of having fun. Music/SidVicious covered "I Wanna Be Your Dog" on his only solo album ''Music/SidSings'' (1979).
** [[Music/TheRamones Joey Ramone]] covered "1969" on his solo album ''Music/DontWorryAboutMe.''
* SurprisinglyGentleSong: "Ann" and "We Will Fall."
* TimeMarchesOn: "1969," a song about a year that's now long passed.
