[=SHINee=] (Korean: 샤이니, pronounced "shiny") is a [[KoreanPopMusic South Korean]] five-member [[BoyBand contemporary dance group]] under Creator/SMEntertainment. They debuted on May 25, 2008 with the song "Replay".

The group started very young with a colourful [[RAndB R&B]] image (since incorporating influences from genres like {{rock}}, [[HipHop hip-hop]] and [[ElectronicDanceMusic EDM]]) and have accrued a fanbase [[FanCommunityNickname known individually as "Shawols" and collectively as "SHINee World"]]. They are also known for their incredible live vocals and highly synchronized and complex dance routines, and have since become one of the most popular groups in K-pop both in Korea and overseas, which earned them the title "Princes of K-Pop". While Jonghyun's and Onew's voices are the most celebrated, and Taemin is the stand-out dancer, every member is known to sing and dance competently.

While the group started out as a five-piece, [[http://www.cnn.com/2017/12/18/entertainment/k-pop-jonghyun-shinee-death-intl/index.html Jonghyun tragically committed suicide on December 18, 2017]] [[http://news.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/12/19/17/shinees-kim-jonghyun-bemoans-loneliness-in-suicide-note following a long period of depression]], leaving the group as four.

On January 31st, 2021, the members confirmed in a live video that they would be making a comeback in February, releasing their seventh studio album after an almost three-year-long hiatus.

On March 2024, Taemin will depart from SM Entertainment at the end of the month after deciding not to renew his contract. He will still part of Shinee.

----
!![=SHINee=] provide examples of:

* AccidentalPervert: Minho accidentally seeing a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICRGQ3HJI_0 woman stripping on a show]].
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: [[FemmeFatale Gender-inverted]] and the subject of Jonghyun's debut single "Crazy (Guilty Pleasure)" seems to be one and Jonghyun even wonders why he's attracted to such a dangerous and unstable woman.
* AutoTune: Present in a few songs, most obviously in "Wowowow" and "Ring Ding Dong".
* TheBabyOfTheBunch: Taemin, who debuted at 14. Till now some still see him as a little kid despite him being a well-respected veteran.
* BadassBoast: Taemin makes one after beating everyone at the Memory Dance King competition during a show.
--> '''Taemin''': (in Chinese) "Don't be obsessed with me, I'm a legend."
* TheBandMinusTheFace: The group has continued after the death of main vocalist and songwriter Jonghyun.
* BoyBand: Obvious KoreanPopMusic example.
* BreakupSong: They have several but the best example is "Farewell My Love" from ''Odd''.
* CampStraight: Key has flamboyant fashion sense, acts like a mother/wife to his bandmates, and can perform most girl group dances better than the girl group themselves.
* CatchPhrase:
** "We're shining [=SHINee=]!"
** "Is this the reality you wanted?" - Jonghyun during ''Hello Baby''.
** "[=SHINee=]'s Back" - Said before most, if not all, of their live performances.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}:
** Taemin, who apparently loses things left and right. He once lost his phone and wasted a lot of time looking for it, and finally just ended up buying a new one. Only to find his old phone again. With the first phone. In the same spot.
** From ''Hello Baby'': "[[ThirdPersonPerson Onew]]'s hand touched the fried chicken!" ItMakesSenseInContext. Only it doesn't.
* ColorCodedCharacters:
** Particularly noticeable in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYGKlNDT4JA&feature=related Love Like Oxygen]]" and "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCzDYBGbx-M Juliette]]", where all the members wore different-colored pants.
** Full blown in the "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skZxb5sBoiU Hello]]" music video, which gives the members colour-coded ''outfits''.
** During their [=SHINee=] First Concert. A little blinding.
** Even their blankets are color coordinated, if one [[https://kpculture.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/shinee4.jpg?w=700 checks their dorms]].
** The Japanese glowsticks have different colors for specific members. For reference:
*** Onew: Green
*** Jonghyun: Red
*** Key: Purple
*** Minho: Blue
*** Taemin: Yellow
* CoolAndUnusualPunishment: In one episode of ''Yunhanam'', the losers of a tug-of-war game had to go bungee-jumping (Minho, Key, and Taemin). Justified in Key's case, as he's afraid of heights.
* CoolBigSis: A cool and older girl is the object of [=SHINee's=] affections in their first music video, "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1HAazRvDP4 Noona Is So Pretty (Replay)]]", as well as the whole concept behind ''Yunhanam''. It's a convenient self-insert object for older fans.
* TheCoverChangesTheGender: Completely averted in Key's cover of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38qdm_rCYnQ "Hair"]].
* CoverVersion: This is the case with their songs "Love Like Oxygen" (the original is titled "Show the World"; sung by Danish singer Martin Hoberg Hedegaard), "Forever or Never" (originally by the German glam rock band Cinema Bizarre), "Juliette" (the original was "Deal with It" by American singer Corbin Bleu) and "Hyeya (Y Si Fuera Ella)" (originally by Spanish singer-songwriter Alejandro Sanz).
* CuteKitten: To promote their Japanese single "Kimi no Sei de", the marketing team put together a literal copycat group called [[http://www.twitter.com/shinyan_jp SHINyan]] and even made [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiWRIWkIESY an alternate parody music video]] featuring them. None of [=SHINee=] knew about this apparently, seeing as [[https://www.instagram.com/p/BE5C6voJg1N Key was baffled by this]].
* TheDandy: Key, who likes to make his own clothes, experiment with hairstyles, and do his own eye makeup.
* DarkerAndEdgier:
** Their "Ring Ding Dong" and "Lucifer" concepts were basically this, being darker compared to previous releases.
** The full album ''Why So Serious?'' While the title track and its music video aren't particularly dark, the other tracks on the album are and at times even border on nightmare fuel, especially the songs "Nightmare" and "Evil."
** Taemin's concept and music video for "Danger" definitely counts, in contrast to the group's usual light and pleasant concepts and [=MVs=].
** Jonghyun's solo concept is most definitely edgier than the group's usual stuff.
* DudeLooksLikeALady: Special mention goes to Taemin who dresses like a typical guy does but is always commented on by members, other celebrities and fans by how feminine he looks.
* {{Determinator}}: Minho, who doesn't understand the meaning of the word 'defeat'.
* EvenTheGuysWantHim:
** Jonghyun, who had a couple fanboys calling for him during performances and fanmeets. Rumored that he has the most fanboys, too.
** Taemin has garnered his fair share of fanboys since his solo debut.
** A fan account said that the fan's brother (who usually never talks about someone's attractiveness) couldn't help but comment on how good looking Onew was in person.
* TheFace: Its hard to tell which member is the most popular since all members seem to have pretty large individual fandoms
** Onew is seen as the most popular member in Korea with Taemin and Minho following close behind. However, Taemin has a HUGE Japanese fanbase and ranked third in a list of most popular Korean stars in China, above any other Korean musicians. Key and Jonghyun are generally considered to be the most popular with the Western crowd.
* {{Fanboy}}:
** Key adores Music/{{Beyonce}}, Music/LadyGaga, Music/TheRamones, and Music/{{Mika}}.
** Jonghyun absolutely loves Music/MichaelJackson so much that he used to impersonate Michael's singing voice on variety shows. Taemin too, in the dance sense, and you can see it firstly in ''Why So Serious?'' and again in his solo debut single 'Danger'.
** In 2016, Jonghyun noted that he was a huge Prince fan, saying he'd listen to Prince repeatedly while making ''좋아(She Is)''. You can hear the influence in both lyrics and music.
* {{Fanservice}}:
** The "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dww9UjJ4Dt8 Lucifer]]" music video, obviously with their bad-boy outfits and... intense staring.
** The skits "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiyJuF2keF4 Story of Chunhyang]]" and "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwpVQyngI34 The Rich Man and the Poor Man]]" the members acted out in ''Hello Baby'' was full of crossdressing members.
** Key eating a donut [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jsjBFwWUPM on television]] is pretty much EroticEating.
** A particular [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSKCuxGDgrg OnKey moment]] of the two doing the "Love Game". Key's screaming does not help.
** There were rumors that the rather revealing "Sherlock" teaser photos were fanservice for disappearing from the Kpop scene to promote in Japan.
** A [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYOM4l8czpA fancam]] of Taemin's [=SMTown=] performance of his DarkerAndEdgier solo has been doing more than just raising eyebrows. ''Ahem.''
** Jonghyun and Taemin's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqAeMlgDOQI "Internet War" cover]]. Try around 3:25 in the video to see a shirtless Jonghyun grab Taemin by the hair and pull him in as if they're going to make out on stage.
* FriendToAllChildren: Minho and Key, as proved by their time on ''Hello Baby''.
* FunWithAcronyms:
** Rather than using English letters though, they use Korean syllables. An example would be "A.Mi.Go." which stands for the much longer Korean saying "아름다운 미녀를 좋아하면 고생한다." (Areumdaun Minyeoreul johahamyeon Gosaenghanda), which means "If you love a beautiful woman, you will suffer."
** "Y.O.U." standing for "Year Of Us". Very clever.
* {{Gasshole}}: There's one part in the choreography for "Everybody" where they mime taking a drink, and [[https://youtu.be/GUf7hbpmFLg?t=3m31s Minho turns around to "burp"]] during the sound distortion.
* GenreRoulette: The group is known as an extremely experimental band and their discography contains R&B, Dubstep/Complextro, Deep House, Pop, Pop-Rock, Rock, EDM, Blues, Jazz, funk and several other genres. Almost all of their title tracks are in different genres.
* GentlemanThief: They appear as thieves in the music video for "Get the Treasure."
* GospelChoirsAreJustBetter: Jonghyun hired a choir from overseas to sing background vocals for "Hallelujah" and recorded their vocals through Skype. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sxn1lXOaJCU He even posted a video of the choir.]]
* GratuitousEnglish:
** Exactly what does "fantastic, elastic" mean?
** "Loverholic, robotronic" ''exist'' as words, but make no sense in context.
** "We got the flow, it's break your naughty"
* GreenEyedMonster: Jonghyun, who consistently holds a grudge against Minho and his tallness and can't seem to stop talking about it.
* {{Guyliner}}: Unsurprisingly, as a Korean group, but this was especially apparent in their "Everybody" concept and for their concert performances of "Evil" and "Nightmare."
* HasAType: Taemin has a long list of requirements for his ideal type.
* TheHeart: Minho and Onew who are always cheerful and care for the other members.
** Onew didn't want his members to worry about him when he couldn't talk for months due to his vocal surgery. So, he wrote down jokes on his cellphone and sent it to them almost everyday.
** Minho is extremely sweet to his members, comforting them when they cry and always being the go-to guy for hugs. In early variety appearances, he was misunderstood as a cold person due to his stoicism, but Jonghyun has said that he's never seen a time when Minho wasn't optimistic and cheerful.
* HeavySleeper: Minho, who once slept for a full forty-eight hours.
* HiddenDepths:
** Taemin plays the piano rather well, a fact revealed when he played the piano for Onew's solo in Tokyo Dome. The general fandom consensus was that he was an adorable airhead; however, his appearance on ''Problematic Men'' put that to the test, as he proved both street smarts and problem-solving skills. He was so good that he even won the overall prize at the end of the episode. He also revealed here that he was quite the academic achiever in school.
** Onew was an honor roll student in high school, coming second in his entire grade and having the highest SAT scores in his school. He is extremely interested in science and even said that he would've been a scientist if he wasn't an entertainer.
* HotterAndSexier:
** Some called "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dww9UjJ4Dt8 Lucifer]]" this, what with the singing about chains, the hip action in the choreography, lots of shots of the guys touching themselves and/or glaring steamily into the camera, Jonghyun's backless vest, and Minho's shirtless teaser picture.
** Their Japanese song "DxDxD" ("Dance Dance Dance"), as compared to their other Japanese singles. It had leather, body rolls and shirtless-ness.
** Jonghyun's solo debut and his album, which is filled with what most fans would call "baby-making jams". Special mention also goes out to his live stage for [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DU5BxNoX9A8 "Hallelujah"]]. His second album, ''좋아(She Is)'' made ''Base'' look like child's play, with some of the lyrics being very sexually charged.
** Taemin's individual efforts are more racy than anything [=SHINee=] would put out as a group.
* InSeriesNickName: While this has become an OldShame, they all had nicknames they used in promotions and the like. You can hear them in their song "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoyPhrZPQvk The SHINee World]]":
** Onew is "Tofu Leader Onew"
** Jonghyun is "Bling Bling Jonghyun"
** Key is "Almighty Key"
** Minho is "Flaming Charisma Minho"
** Taemin is "Powerful Taem"
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Key, who genuinely has trouble sometimes knowing that his brutally honest remarks can hurt people.
* IntercourseWithYou: Most of the songs on Jonghyun's solo album imply this, especially the tracks "Love Belt", "Beautiful Tonight", "Fortune Cookie", and of course, "Hallellujah".
** "View" from their ''Odd'' album, as well as "Hold You" and "Chocolate" from their ''Married to the Music'' repackage.
** "Suit Up" from Jonghyun's ''좋아(She Is)'' album, as well as "Moon".
* IncrediblyLongNote:
** Jonghyun, as the group's main vocalist, is in charge of most of the long notes, his most popular one being the twenty second long note in "Lucifer".
** Taemin gets one in "Why So Serious?''"
** Onew gets an insanely long one in "Breaking News".
** Onew, Jonghyun, Taemin and Key all get long notes in "Everybody".
** Onew gets a 39-second note in his solo of "Friend" during their Japan Arena Tour
* InelegantBlubbering:
** Jonghyun when he cries, most noticeable during their first win of ''Juliette''.
** Key and Onew also, at times.
** The entire band (including Taemin, who up until then was infamous for never crying on camera) was reduced to this after winning their first Artist of the Year award for "Dream Girl." Every time a member tries to give their acceptance speech they're either doing it through tears or they choke up and stop mid-sentence, and even when a member isn't trying to talk they're audibly sobbing in the background.
* IWantToBeARealMan: Taemin, especially back when he was pretty young and [[https://i.pinimg.com/originals/60/97/9d/60979d47daf98464cfd449ba512cdfbc.jpg once]] [[http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_iDm_B_Feaa8/TDm0cAqNDbI/AAAAAAAAAHY/OahZfd9vzIU/s400/Taemin.jpg looked]] [[http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ul17ApWMyc4/T4JspkpDknI/AAAAAAAACi8/Q-RH_vDPVSU/s640/taemin+lucifer+hair.png like]] [[https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BBXC9SmCIAA2Zc2.jpg a really pretty man]]. He used to take being called cute a compliment since at the time there were many idols younger than him and he was no longer a hoobae to everyone. However signs of him wanting to shed the girly image occurred, such as his facepalm reaction to being nominated for "Male Idol That Looks Most Like a Girl'', and working out at the gym with Jonghyun.
* JackOfAllTrades: Key who can dance, sing, rap and act. He also speaks fluent Korean, Japanese and English, can cook and has an eye for fashion. 'Almighty Key' indeed.
* TheKlutz: Onew, though he tends to exaggerate this trait with over-the-top pratfalls. More often real than a joke though.
* KoreanDrama:
** Minho is the most active member on the drama scene. He played the lead role in "To the Beautiful You" and a supporting character in "Medical Top Team."
** Onew played one of the leads in the ensemble sitcom ''Royal Villa'' and he is playing supporting role in ''Descendants of the Sun''. There are also rumors of him playing the lead role in a web drama.
** All the members apart from Jonghyun have had cameos or 3 -episode recurring roles in several dramas.
* TheLeader: Onew, obviously. Minho revealed that Onew's gentle leadership is the reason the group has stayed together for so long.
* LethalChef:
** Taemin, who somehow managed to screw up ramyun by adding honey, milk, and an assortment of other condiments. Minho cursed after tasting it.
** Taemin and Onew's first attempts to make soup in ''Hello Baby'', which did not end well.
* LighterAndSofter: The band's Japanese discography compared to their Korean one.
* LikesOlderWomen: "Replay", the group's debut single, is told from the viewpoint of a younger boy to an older girl.
* LovableJock: Minho is ridiculously good at every sport he plays, even wanting to be a soccer player when he was younger. He's also extremely friendly and can hold a conversation with people of any age.
* ManlyTears: Minho, the few times he cries on stage. He just tears up a bit and stares off into the distance with his chin lifted, the epitome of dignity.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: Key's friendship with {{Bifauxnen}} and fellow labelmate Music/{{Fx}}'s Amber is seen as this due to his CampStraight tendencies and Amber's {{Tomboy}} side.
* MistakenAge:
** When Key first met Onew, he thought Onew was younger and used informal language until he eventually realized Onew was actually two years older than him. Jonghyun also thought Onew was younger at first (they're five months apart), and tried to take care of him. Onew just went along with it.
** Key initially thought Minho was older than him, even though they're the same age.
* MommasBoy: Jonghyun. He has never failed to tell his mom that he loves her every opportunity he gets.
* MotorMouth: Jonghyun, so much so that many new fans think he's the leader instead of Onew because he's always talking in interviews. He says he does this because he usually gets really nervous on camera. Key is known to talk a lot too.
* MrFanservice:
** Jonghyun and Minho are generally seen as the darker and cooler members of the band. They're also more likely to show off their muscular physiques.
** Once they had their solo debuts, Jonghyun and Taemin filled out these roles more often, with their fanservice-heavy concepts and music videos.
* TheMusical: Onew has started participating in these, with his last project being the South Korean adaption of ''Theatre/RockOfAges''. Key also participated in the musical ''Catch Me If You Can'', then did ''Bonnie & Clyde'', ''The Three Musketeers'' and as of 2015, he's done ''School Oz'', an SM story based in the Franchise/LandOfOz universe and most recently 'Chess', where he plays a Russian man.
* NiceGuy: Onew. In fact, Onew literally means 'gentle' in Korean. You know you're nice when that becomes your stage name.
** He even keeps his fan letters in individual zip-lock bags so they won't get damaged.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: All the members with each other, but Minho and Jonghyun are the worst offenders.
* OddFriendship: All the members in the band have completely different personalities, so its a miracle that they get along as well as they do.
* ObsessionSong: "Orgel" from their ''Why So Serious?'' album.
* OfficialCouple:
** Taemin and Music/APink's Naeun during their time on ''We Got Married''.
** 2014 saw Key and Japanese model Alissa Yagi on ''We Got Married Global''.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Every single member looks no older than twenty at most, but the worst offender is Onew who is prone to acting cute and has a smile that makes him look ten years younger.
* PlayfulPursuit: The video for their debut single "Replay (Noona Is So Pretty)" shows the group singing at and following an older woman who works at a coffee shop that they are all seemingly infatuated with. Different members follow her at different points (on the street, at a basketball court) culminating with the group dancing for her together at the end.
* PowerBallad: "Symptoms", "Sleepless Nights", "Ode to You", "An Encore", "Romantic", "Quasimodo", and several others.
* PutOnABus: Justified. Until the 15th of November 2020, Onew, Key, and Minho had been completing their military service, mandatory in Korea, which meant that they were unable to perform or promote for two years. While they did return and promote "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6OoY6xneI0 Don't Call Me]]", in April 2021 Taemin began his own military service, taking over his bandmates' place aboard the bus.
* PygmalionPlot: The music video for "Married To the Music" involves a bride who creates her "ideal" groom by using Key's head, Taemin's eyes, Jonghyun's mouth, Onew's nose, and Minho's body.
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: Let's see, we have the NiceGuy, adorkable leader Onew, the Bad Boy Jonghyun, LovableJock and MrFanservice Minho, brutally honest and diva-like Key and ShrinkingViolet Taemin.
* RealMenWearPink: Key, primarily, likes the colour pink.
* RedHerring: In the music video for "1000nen, Zutto Soba ni Ite...", you're forgiven for thinking that the person who passes away is the little boy. [[spoiler:It's actually his father.]]
* RuleOfSymbolism:
** "Everybody":
*** The lyrics are about the contrast between childhood and adulthood. They ask for people to 'wake up' to some of the harmful ideas placed upon becoming an adult.
*** The life support they're on and the color of their eyes when they wake up in the image teaser, are pearlescent sky blue - AKA their fandom color.
** "Sherlock" has a murder mystery story between the members hidden within its choreography.
** "Dream Girl"'s choreo contains references to previous dances of theirs, you can spot "Juliette", "Love Like Oxygen", and more in there.
** "View" has the members take off their fancy celebrity clothes to put on normal summer outfits and the video itself is about the boys escaping celebrity life to do normal reckless 'young people' things that they didn't have the freedom to do before.
* RunningGag: Minho's "[[https://youtu.be/CAzjH9VnREU Dibidibidis]]" rap, which has popped up repeatedly throughout the years, even in their SNL episode.
-->'''Minho:''' ''[the other members chant "Dibidibidis" after each sentence]'' Bling bling is Jonghyun! Our powerful one is Taemin! Only tofu for Onew! [=SHINee=]'s key for everything is Key! Flaming charisma Minho! My name is Minho!
* SecurityCling: Jonghyun's song "Love Belt". He wrote it after his infamous car accident back in the "Why So Serious" era and said that when people listen to the song, they should hopefully be thankful if they have someone who'll be there to hold them tight during rough times.
* SerenadeYourLover:
** Taemin has sung for Music/APink's Naeun several times during their run on ''We Got Married''.
** They've also serenaded their fandom with songs like "Honesty" and "An Ode to You".
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: Key. ''Hello Baby'' is filled with instances of Key screaming like a little girl, and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HOD8SH9wMk watch him when he was forced to ride a rollercoaster in Japan]]. Poor Key.
* SequelSong: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orMG3OJtSO0 "Love Sick"]] is the sequel to "Replay", where it contains a CallBack to the age difference with the lines, "It's already been years / You said I was like a younger brother / You changed / You're my woman now." The choreography also uses some moves from "Replay."
* {{Shinigami}}: All members appear as death gods in the music video for "1000nen, Zutto Soba ni Ite..."
* ShirtlessScene:
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEfQKV6RzTU Minho's solo performance]] won't be remembered for his dancing, that's for sure. There was a near repeat of this in [=SHINee=] World 4. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5g4zDfynrU Watch it for yourself]]
** Their "Sherlock" teaser photos.
** Jonghyun's performance of "Internet War" featuring Taemin was of him shirtless.
** Taemin's music video and his infamous [=SMTown=] performance for "Danger".
* ShrinkingViolet:
** Minho, during the early years of the group, would barely speak in interviews and if he did, one could practically see the internal struggle he had trying to get the words out. Many people assumed this was because he was brooding and nicknamed him 'Flaming Charisma Minho', but he later revealed that it was due to how shy he was. He has gotten a lot better.
** Taemin was an extremely shy kid and though he's gotten better at variety shows, he's still known to be reserved and introverted, only having few friends in his inner circle.
** Onew was never quiet on variety shows, but he was a shy kid and no one ever expected him to go into the public eye because of just how self-conscious he was.
* ShoutOut:
** Their whole ''Romeo'' mini-album was a shout-out to Shakespeare's ''Theatre/RomeoAndJuliet''.
** Their mini-album ''Sherlock'' is a shoutout to ''Literature/SherlockHolmes''.
* SignatureMove:
** Their 'pelvic dance' in "Ring Ding Dong."
** The 'buffering' and 'tutting' dance in "Lucifer" also counts.
** The "Sherlock" walk.
** The 5 person 'pilot' from "Everybody".
** Their "shoulder dance" from "View".
* SingerSongwriter:
** Jonghyun has acted as a lyricist many a times for [=SHINee=] but early on expressed that he wanted to avoid composing for the group since he didn't want to mix his individual style with the group's sound. So, he started composing for other artists and wrote Music/{{EXO}}-K 's "Playboy" from their ''Exodus'' album, "Gloomy Clock" for IU, "Pretty Boy" for Taemin's solo album, "No More" for Lim Kim, "Red Candle" for Son Dambi, and "Breathe" for Lee Hi. All of the songs on his solo album were written by him as well. However, in 2015 with [=SHINee=]'s solo album ''Odd'', Jonghyun broke his 'no composing for [=SHINee=]' rule and composed, arranged and wrote the lyrics for "Odd Eye". He also has a segment on his radio show ''Blue Night'' where he writes songs based on experiences his listeners send in, which led to him putting all of the song into a compilation album.
** Surprisingly, Minho has written a lot of [=SHINee=]'s raps. He often doesn't get acknowledged for this and he never talks about it which has led a lot of people to be very shocked when they realize exactly how long his songwriting contributions for [=SHINee=] are.
** Key has also contributed to the writing of raps on [=SHINee=]'s songs.
** Onew wrote the lyrics for the song "Your Name" on the ''Lucifer'' album.
** For Taemin's first full-length album, he wrote the lyrics for two of the songs, "Press Your Number" and "Soldier". He also wrote the lyrics for "Day and Night," the lead single from ''Move-ing,'' the repackaged version of his second full-length album ''Move''.
* StageNames: Onew for Jinki and Key for Kibum.
* StalkerWithACrush: Many fans interpret "Odd Eye" from their fourth album as this.
* StealthPun: The music video of "Lucifer" has wisps of light zooming in on the members. The word Lucifer means ''light''. The light motif still stays at the music video of the Japanese version.
* StepfordSmiler:
** Onew is known for his incredible smile and tends to smile a lot in interviews and variety shows. However, being the leader, he's had to go through a lot, as leaders are put under a lot of pressure in the K-Pop world. More so, he tends to keep his feelings to himself and bottle them up. He was rumored to be a part of a club for depressed idols headed by Music/SuperJunior's leader Leeteuk. In 2014, no one knew exactly how painful a time it was for him until he finally burst into tears in the band's fourth solo concert.
** Key can also be considered this. He's known for being quite cheerful and outgoing, but he revealed to a self harming fan that he used to do it himself.
** Jonghyun, while seemingly cheerful and outgoing, had revealed that he tried hard to be happy and that he felt lonely and misunderstood. It's revealed that he had followed a long term of depression.
* StepUpToTheMicrophone: Taemin, oh Taemin. When the group first debuted, many netizens targeted Taemin, calling him tone deaf because of his lack of lines in any of the group's early discography. So, imagine everyone's surprise when the music video for "Dream Girl" comes out and Taemin is hitting all the high notes perfectly. Since then, his singing has only gotten better to the point where he's now featured as prominently as Jonghyun and Onew.
* StockholmSyndrome: In the music video for "View", the boys get kidnapped by four female fans. Instead of trying to escape, they use the opportunity to let loose and have fun, something their celebrity life has prohibited them from doing. They grow friendly with the girls and it is even implied that they develop feelings for them. However, a majority of the fandom believes that they had an agreement with the girls beforehand and weren't kidnapped at all.
* {{Supergroup}}:
** Jonghyun, in the project group SM the Ballad. Fellow labelmates included in the project are the TRAX's Jay, Music/SuperJunior's Kyuhyun, and newcomer Jino.
** Jonghyun is also a member of the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SM_The_Ballad#2014:_Lineup_changes_and_Breath 2014 incarnation]] of SM the Ballad, the only member of the original group that came back from their comeback.
** Minho and Taemin were members of SM's one-shot dance project group, SM the Performance.
** Key is in one called Toheart with his close friend Woohyun of Music/{{Infinite}}.
* TeamMom: Key is believed to be this due to smothering Taemin with care. At least, Key certainly likes to believe he is.
* TeamDad: Onew is seen as this, because he's the oldest member.
* TechnicianVsPerformer: When it comes to dance, Taemin (technician) vs Key (performer). When it comes to singing, Jonghyun (technician) vs Onew (performer). Key can also be considered the performer here since he isn't as good as the vocal line but has the best stage presence.
* TeenIdol: The whole group debuted in their teens.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Fried chicken for Onew, steak for Taemin.
* TrainingFromHell: As is custom for any K-Pop group.
* TranslatedCoverVersion: Many of their songs qualify, particular the Korean songs that were translated into Japanese for Japan promotions such as "Replay" and "Lucifer".
* TrueCompanions:
** All five members. Yes, they were brought together by their company and yes, their relationship hasn't always been smooth sailing, but one just needs to look at any interview or behind the scenes segment to see how much these boys care about each other. They're practically inseparable and them managing to stay together for so long despite being a part of S.M.Entertainment (a company which is infamous for having group members quit or be kicked out) is just testament to their close bond. They even got [[http://onehallyu.com/topic/187643-shinees-friendship-rings/ friendship rings]].
** Jonghyun on ''One Fine Day'': "Without the other members, I'm five times more free, but also five times lonelier."
** Their Japanese single "Sing Your Song" is essentially a tribute to their friendship, with lyrics like "I'm glad I found you" and "Let's sing together." The music video features many shots of them simply singing together and looking extremely happy to be doing it.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Minho and Jonghyun definitely qualify. They [[http://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lqnx2clduV1qgz7wqo1_r1_500.gif try]] [[http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lqux7j5tne1qiqc26o3_250.gif to]] [[http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lmpvp1Ep331qa1d0io1_r1_400.gif hurt]] [[http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lqictiVVgZ1qbrozdo2_250.gif each other]], have [[http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lqg9nc3gO41qgutyao1_500.jpg water]] [[http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lqg9b47dGx1qgutyao1_500.jpg fights]], and [[http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lqoz81MNNJ1qcwmyho1_500.gif insult]] [[http://30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lom89sXA221qaauizo1_500.gif each other]]. But they also [[http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lqhy3mM0wj1qm2cpto5_500.gif fanservice]] [[http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lqhy3mM0wj1qm2cpto7_400.gif it]] [[http://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lqhy3mM0wj1qm2cpto8_250.gif up]], compliment each other, [[http://i49.tinypic.com/309m16e.gif declare their love for each other]], [[http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lqbweefSeq1qciefqo1_500.jpg and]] [[http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lqbt7enF7b1qc7k21o1_500.jpg have]] [[http://26.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lqdt2dd0Iq1r0vruco1_500.gif epic]] [[http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lqdoe4Kjgq1qff5ev.gif hugs]]. They don't even have to be together for this; when Minho was away filming for "To The Beautiful You", Jonghyun spent quite a bit of time making fun of him on Twitter, going as far as to ask fans to submit ridiculous photoshopped pictures of Minho to him. Minho eventually got him back, asking netizens to send in photoshopped pictures of Jonghyun in a hanbok as a sort of competition. Can be seen as SlapSlapKiss if viewed with YaoiFangirl goggles, especially since they ''have'' actually [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrrQm5DOVyo kissed]].
* VocalTagTeam: Onew and Jonghyun during the early stages of the group's career. However, all the members get equal lines now.
* WardrobeMalfunction: Since their outfits mostly include tight pants, as it's part of their trademark fashion, some of their clothes have ripped during their performances. At the 2012 KBS Song Festival, [[https://youtu.be/i7a04eh-Xj4?t=4m38s Taemin's pants ripped when they were performing "Sherlock"]] and [[https://youtu.be/PE9kNhlm26M?t=2m14s Minho discussed his pants ripping]] when they performed "Everybody."
* WholesomeCrossdresser: Prone to [[http://coriohh.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/shineesor02.jpg dressing up like girls]] so their pretty looks can be shown off.
* WingedHumanoid: At the end of the ''Ring Ding Dong'' MV.
