Double J is a unique "cultural gag manga" written by Eiji Nonaka (of Manga/CromartieHighSchool fame) and illustrated by Maru Asakura, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine from 2009 to 2011. It was adapted into a rather brief anime by DLE, airing from June 28 to September 14, 2011, as part of the Yuruani programming block. The anime episodes are quite short, being only 4 minutes long.

!!Tropes:

* AdaptationDyeJob: Hajime's hair is brown in the manga, but blue-green in the anime. Aya's hair, on the other hand, is dark blue-green in the manga but black in the anime.
* ButNotTooForeign: Françoise Sakai, the president of the Comedy Club, is half French.
* ButtMonkey: Poor Toothpick-san gets absolutely no respect.
* CutShort: The anime. Just watch Episode 11. Wow.
** See you again!!
* EdutainmentShow: Between all those Seinfeildian Conversations and Non Sequiturs, you may actually end up learning something about Japanese traditional arts!
* EverybodyCallsHimBarkeep: Toothpick-san.
* Expy: Françoise's character is quite similar to that of Cromarties Yamaguchi.
* GagSeries: It's Eiji Nonaka. What did you expect?
* IdiosyncraticEpisodeNaming: The title of each episode is a pun involving a known slogan or phrase and the word "tradition".
* JapaneseSchoolClub
* Joshikousei: ...plus one guy.
* LimitedAnimation: Very Limited Animation. It's probably intentional, though.
* MediumBlending: The anime features real life backgrounds. Episode 7 is 90% live footage.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: The female students are drawn in the typical cute anime style, the male students in a cartoony, ThickLineAnimation style, and the adults look much more realistic. There are live action segments, too.
* RedOniBlueOni: Hajime (blue) and Sayo (red).
* RunningGag: Toothpick-san and her toothpicks.
** Ichirou's frog manga.
* SailorFuku: And all of them look different, despite all the girls going to the same school.
* SeriousBusiness: Comedy, for Françoise and the Comedy Club.
--> Françoise: A comedian doesn't need love!
* ShoutOut: Episode 9 of the anime features Hajime and Sayo drawn in the style of Manga/CromartieHighSchool. The female gorilla also makes an appearance (and talks in a really cute voice, as she's supposed to be Aya).
** Also, Hajime and Sayo's very Cromartie-esque ReactionShot.
* SweatDrop: Here they look like paper clips, for some reason.
* TakeAThirdOption: Bird trainer Sanada, in Episode 8.
--> Hajime and Sayo: Completely wrong!
