When a fanfiction writer, or group of writers, do several (not just a few, ''several'') fics for the same fandom taking place in the same continuity as each other, that's a Fan Verse. Another variant of this is when you have a few stories that utilize a popular FandomSpecificPlot and become so well-loved themselves that several other writers [[{{Fanon}} treat them as a framework]] from which they base their own stories on, creating their own RecursiveFanfiction. The original fanfic writer may or may not then acknowledge these as being part of their continuity. Any fanfic that has a copious amount of {{worldbuilding}} counts a lot toward this label as well.

If they keep it coherent and get enough interest, Fan Verse writers can single-handedly influence {{Fanon}}, possibly to the point of being [[AscendedFanon canonized]] as an ExpandedUniverse. Compare SharedUniverse.

!Examples:

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Anime and Manga]]
* ''Fanfic/LegacyOfTheRasengan'' by Tellemicus Sundance has spawned its own fan verse in recent years, especially now since he has given up on Chuuten and has chosen a successor to continue it.
* The ''[[http://www.tuxedomask.com/SailorMoonExpanded/ Sailor Moon Expanded]]'' community was a prime example of a Fan Verse. The writings of over a dozen authors were combined with the goal of adding new and interesting characters, stories, and information to the ''Franchise/SailorMoon'' universe without contradicting established canon. In many instances, particularly in the works of Mark Latus, the expanded material is more interesting and concise than the original source. It [[DeadFic hasn't been updated with new material]] in quite some time, however.
* [[http://www.sterman.org/ Richard Lawson]] created two such Fan Verses for ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'' during the late 1990s:
** ''Thy Inward Love'' is a {{continuation}} fic that picks up at the end of the ''Ranma'' manga and attempts to resolve the series' LoveDodecahedron and corresponding web of honor entanglements; in addition to the main storyline there are several prequels and side stories, and a sequel series.
** ''Thy Outward Part'' is an AlternateUniverseFic where Ranma is locked in female form permanently in the wake of a different, more tragic outcome to the Chisuiton arc of the manga. Pushed away by Akane, Ranma goes to college alone and unhappy, until she meets a young man who finds her attractive and wants to learn martial arts from her. Long thought to be "closed", this 'verse was revived when Lawson started writing stories in it again.
** Lawson has also written a series of five ''Anime/AllPurposeCulturalCatgirlNukuNuku'' fics that describe the remarkable life and evolution of the ostensibly comedic title character.
* There is a truly awesome one of these for ''Manga/UruseiYatsura'' called [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/58246/Pyeknu ''The Senior Year'']], started by Fred Herriot. It takes the original setting, characters and runs with them, adding new and interesting characters, places, cultures (including many {{ShoutOut}}s to other anime) and spans at least 20 years through its various sequels.
* The ''Neon Genesis: Goddess'' series by [[http://www.darkscribes.org/site/author.php?user=25 Slayer]] combines ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' and ''Manga/AhMyGoddess'' for an interesting effect on the story of ''NGE.'' It also has about two dozen spinoffs and continuations.
* ''Fanfic/NeonGenesisEvangelionR'' was all written by one author but it has two branching continuities and has itself spawned fan fiction (such as ''[[ColonCancer Neon Genesis Evangelion: R: Redemption]]''). It's also unusually detailed for a piece of fan fiction and elaborates substantially on the [[AncientAstronauts nature of the Angels]] compared with the original series.
* The ''Fanfic/SuperwomenOfEva'' series (of which ''Fanfic/SOE2LoneHeirOfKrypton'' is one example) has several stories that cross over amongst themselves (in a ''very'' BroadStrokes fashion), creating a shared universe (and a few alternate universes to the two "main" ones). Of interest is that the series has ''two'' different shared universes, one which takes inspiration from ''Creator/MarvelComics'' and one which takes inspiration from ''Creator/DCComics''.
* ''Webcomic/MegaTokyo'' has spawned at least three Fan Verses to date. The oldest is the ''[=MegaTokyo=]: the Clans'' game that started in 2001 on the [=MegaTokyo=] Forum, and which is ''still'' going (look for threads labled [Mt:tC] in the RP subforum). More recently is the Story Discussion Fanworks game that is hosted off site in its own dedicated forum. Most recently is the energetic ''Fanfic/MegatokyoCampfireStory'' that can be found in the fanart subforum.
* In ''Franchise/{{Naruto}}'' fandom, the Lace and Strawberries or Saki-chan Fan Verse, started by Asuka Kureru or Askerian. The basic premise is Sasuke dealing with his issues via cross-dressing as a Gothic Lolita that goes by the name of Saki. Not actually crack. While she has written only three fics in this verse, the number of fan-fan works has possibly reached triple digits, and includes writers such as chibirisu-chan, ice-dark elf, and crazy-toffee.
* ''The Continuance of Haruhi Suzumiya'' by [=Hejin57=]. This series branches directly off the anime adaptation of ''The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya''. Starting with ''The Attraction of Haruhi Suzumiya'', this story has already seen three completed sequels, and another already in the works. Set for six stories in total, this fanfic series easily qualifies as a fan verse. All the stories in the series are great, too!
* ''Manga/OnePiece'' has one in the ''Fanfic/CrewOfTheAxe'' due to the main fanfic crossing over with several other fics, and those fics crossing over with more fics.
* The very NSFW fan verse ''Wild Horses and Pokegirls'' where Ranma is sent to a very twisted Pokemon altverse where, at some point in history, women were crossed with pokemon so that now, everyone has some level of poke DNA, and very few girls look human, especially after puberty. Those that do, don't usually stay that way for long. It's very much a fetish fanfic crossover, but it's been around for a long time and spawned many storylines, including multiple interactive "Choose Your Own Adventure" style stories.
* Debbie (Dai-chan) began The Powers of Crests universe for the ''Franchise/{{Digimon}}'' fandom on Platform/FanFictionDotNet, which was expanded upon by Creedogmon, and an author named [=DayDreamer9=] has begun a third imagining.
* The ''Fanfic/NineteenEightyThreeDoomsdayStories'' AU for ''Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers'' has expanded to included contributions from other artists and authors.
* The ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'' ElsewhereFic ''Fanfic/BoyScoutsOneHalf'' has had multiple authors (many of whom are also {{Self Insert|Fic}}ed characters, some before writing and some after), and has two {{Spinoff}}s and a {{Sequel}}.
* An author named [[https://www.fanfiction.net/u/50988/Kanius Kanius]] has a set of fan-anime verses. The first is ''Fanfic/DigimonFusionKai'', which retells ''Anime/DragonBallZ'' under the Kai format with ''Franchise/{{Digimon}}'' characters playing the roles of said characters. It is also a rewrite of his previous series back in 2001.
** ''Fanfic/YuYuGiDigiMoon'' is a massive fan crossover with ''Franchise/SailorMoon'', ''Franchise/{{Digimon}}'', ''Franchise/YuGiOh'', and ''Manga/YuYuHakusho'' to bring forth many adventures as Japan's superheroes.
** It also comes with their own AU based on ''Anime/GuiltyCrown'' by one of his contributors called ''Fanfic/GuiltyCrownTheLostKingdoms'' with ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'' as guests and later on cameos with ''Literature/SwordArtOnline''.
** Likewise, the author of YYGDM and Digimon Fusion Kai, alongside contributors has an [[Fanfic/KaniusProductionAbridged abridged series]] with the characters living in a shared universe alongside various pop culture. ''Fanfic/ShinnenNewYear'' is also set as the series finale.
* The ''Fanfic/ElementalChessTrilogy'' is effectively this. With four novel-length installments, plus one collection of side stories and a fifth volume currently in production, it is known as one of the largest ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'' fanworks.
* The ''Pokemon'' fanfic ''Fanfic/PokemonResetBloodlines'' [[ExpandedUniverse has expanded with side stories]] [[SharedUniverse by both the original and several other writers]], covering a wide variety of characters with expanded backstory and lore in a new universe Ash Ketchum {{Peggy Sue}}d himself into. The continuity as a whole has now been dubbed as the ''Resetverse''.
* The ''[[Fanfic/BloodTiesFullmetalAlchemist Tiesverse]]'' is a ''Anime/FullmetalAlchemist2003'' AU where Edward gets involved with vampires and [[{{Dhampyr}} dhampirs]] while on the other side of the Gate.
* ''Fanfic/PathOfNeedles'' is a Sasuke/Sakura-centered fan verse based around ''Boruto''. The main story revolves around Sakura becoming unexpectedly pregnant with a second child.
* ''[[https://jusenkyo.fandom.com/wiki/The_Altered_Destinies The Altered Destinies]]'' is a huge series of AlternateUniverseFic that look into alternative histories for the characters from ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf''. The reason it is so big is that it is actually made up of multiple Fan Verses including some in Website/ThisVeryWiki. In fact due to its size even the author’s aren’t entirely sure which fanfics are a part of it. [[note]] Jim Bader admitted that he wasn’t aware of Fred Herriot’s work and Thy Inward Love is technically apart of it due to being crossover with The Bitter End.[[/note]]
* The ''Fanfic/ShadowchasersSeries'' is a collection of fanfics by several authors, set in an AlternateUniverse of ''Franchise/YuGiOh'', where monsters of myth and legend - called Shadows - have always existed on Earth alongside humanity, [[InvisibleToNormals only seen by a select few]], with the titular Shadowchasers acting as a law enforcement organisation. Other than the fics centered around the Shadowchasers, there are also fics taking place in the same universe, such as the redux of ''Fanfic/YuGiOhTheThousandYearDoor''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* ComicBook/{{Batman}} has an epic series known as the ''Fanfic/CatTales'' universe which some people think of as better than some of the published stuff. It has lots of awesomeness for many characters, but the main thread is attempting to create a realistic romance between Batman and Catwoman without sacrificing any of their characters' awesomeness. This is mixed in with liberal amounts of drama, humor, believable character development, and tons of great action. The first story is ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/224334/1/A_Girlrs_Gotta_Protect_Her_Reputation A Girl's Gotta Protect Her Reputation]].'' And best of all, the author is still going strong after 54 stories and ''nine years'' -- the first chapter of the first story was published on March 8, 2001. With ''regular updates'' every few weeks, no less! Also has a fair number of sidestories in the same verse co-authored by others, fan-art and its own website, [[http://catwoman-cattales.com/ here]]
* There is a fanfic version of the Franchise/MarvelUniverse that puts much more of an emphasis on lesser-known heroes and villains, such as the 1990s superhero ''ComicBook/{{Sleepwalker}}'', rather than mainstays such as ComicBook/SpiderMan, the ComicBook/FantasticFour or ComicBook/CaptainAmerica, who usually guest star in the C-listers' own stories rather than get the main spotlight. Many aspects are also heavily reimagined, such as Gwen Stacy being alive and well as Peter Parker's one true love, and Mary Jane Watson developing her own spider-powers as Spider-Woman, with her own rogues gallery and supporting cast entirely separate from Peter's.
* There are several fanfics written by [[https://www.fanfiction.net/u/1684309/Ganondorfdude11 the same author]] using Franchise/TheDCU heroes set during the 1940s mixing elements of modern continuity with [[UsefulNotes/TheGoldenAgeOfComicBooks Golden Age]] tropes. WordOfGod says the basic impetus of this retro-style Fan Verse was an excuse to write a story where [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4540948/1/Superman_vs_Hitler Superman actually gets to punch out Hitler.]]
* On Platform/LiveJournal, the DC Universe [=RP=] of [[http://community.livejournal.com/jla_watchtower JLA Watchtower]] and its spinoff Roleplay/DCNation has been going strong since 2004, using a combination of adapted DC Comics storylines and original plots. There have also been "flashback" posts that go into earlier parts of DC continuity.
* The best-known ''ComicBook/{{Watchmen}}'' fan verse is a magnificent [[http://etherati.livejournal.com/26738.html Zombie AU]], of all things.
* The ''Shadowchasers'' fan verse, started by the FanFiction great ComicBook/BlackPanther, has spawned several continuing fanfics on fanfiction.net.
* All [[http://members.tripod.com/Dark_Mark/darkmark1.htm Dark Mark]]'s [[Franchise/TheDCU DC Universe]] fanfics are set in the same Multiverse kicked off by his first fanfiction "Kara of Rokyn". ''Fanfic/HellsisterTrilogy'' and ''Fanfic/SupermanOf2499TheGreatConfrontation'', "Batman and the Outsiders", "With this Ring"... are set in the same timeline. ''Fanfic/AForceOfFour'' is set in a parallel universe, but the main characters take part in the main timeline's events. ''Fanfic/SupermanAndMan'' happens after "Kara of Rokyn". Similarly, some of their Franchise/MarvelUniverse fanfics are set in the same universe.
* Fanfic/DCFanUniverse is a ''huge'' subreddit reimagining several DC characters in one shared universe, with wickedly creative twists on each.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* The "Fanfic Domain", created by fanfiction.net's [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1162566/Crazyeight Crazyeight]], is both Fan Verse and metafictional masterpiece. One of its central premises is that authors are bodily transported to the Fanfic Domain and meet characters face-to-face; canon events actually happened to the characters and they actually experience the fanfics into which they are written. Enter FanDumb, and with it, plot.
* Possibly the largest Fan Verse is [[http://www.eyrie.net/UF/ Eyrie Productions']] ''Fanfic/UndocumentedFeatures,'' with nearly twenty years of work and a coherent setting spanning ''at least'' 500 years of in-story time (and thousands of years of history), and incorporating dozens upon dozens of sources.
* ''Fanfic/TheInfiniteLoops'' is a MassiveMultiplayerCrossover by countless authors on ''Platform/SpacebattlesDotCom'', where every work in existence is a branch of the supercomputer Yggdrasil, and because of the Crash all those branches are now trapped in a GroundhogDayLoop. There are specific guidelines that each loop must follow, interactions between settings, and even a masterlist that determines which snippets are canon or not.
* ''Fanfic/InfinityTrainBlossomverse'' was originally a main trilogy of stories that was a crossover of ''WesternAnimation/InfinityTrain'' and ''Anime/PokemonTheSeries'' before expanding on numerous variations and inspired other crossover fics.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Film -- Animation]]
* The [[WhatCouldHaveBeen original, darker]] concept for ''WesternAnimation/{{Zootopia}}'', where prejudice against predators was so strong that preds were forced to wear {{shock collar}}s, was popular enough with fans to inspire a host of fan works set in "Zoodystopia".
* ''Fanfic/BecomingFree'' is a ''Frozen'' fic that has various spinoffs and more than one sequel. It's a series where Elsa falls for her new female horse farrier.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Film -- Live Action]]
* The ''Amalgam’Verse'', a FusionFic series between basically every {{Kaiju}} film in existence. It started off with ''Fanfic/TheBridge'' (a crossover with ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePony''), was expanded on via ''Fanfic/GodzillaNewEra'' (a prequel detailing the events of this universe’s ''Film/Godzilla2000''), the spinoff ''The Bridge: Sound Of Thunder'' (Starring the monster [[CanonImmigrant Raiga]] from a little-known Indonesian kaiju film and [[spoiler: introducing the Amalgam’Verse’s MirrorUniverse]]) and the short story series ''Tales of the Amalgam’Verse''. Now, a wealth of recursive fanfic exists on both the pony and kaiju sides, some canon and some not. A full reading list is available [[https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GVqMklzy9mIKS057nsZje3dOgWOQ-HS6i8c1SByluzA/edit here]]. Canon-approved RecursiveFic includes:
** ''The Bridge: Paradise Lost'' (Showcasing the Amalgam’Verse’s version of the ''Franchise/UltraSeries'', with a side of [[Characters/GodzillaTheGhidorahs Grand King Ghidorah]]).
** ''The Bridge: Incomplete Struggle'', the Amalgam’Verse version of ''Film/Gamera3AwakeningOfIrys'', substituting [[Franchise/UltraSeries Gomora]] for Gamera, and the [[Film/PacificRim Anteversal kaiju attacks]] for the Gyaos swarms. Iris is also [[AdaptationalNameChange renamed]] to their official alternate name Ryuseicho in order to avoid crossing the OneSteveLimit (One of the main kaiju characters in ''The Bridge'' proper is an albino Gyaos who takes the name Irys, intended to be a ShoutOut before Incomplete Struggle was conceptualized).
** ''Amalgam’Verse Mirror Side: Guardian of Skull Island'', a story set in the Amalgam’Verse MirrorUniverse, starring a heroic Gaw and Ramarak as they strive to protect the island from the evil Kong’s invasion.
* ''Fanfic/ThePrivateDiaryOfElizabethQuatermain'' is a fic series which picks up where ''Film/TheLeagueOfExtraordinaryGentlemen'' movie left off. It took four years to write and stretched across five complete multi-chapter stories, plus a handful of side scenes and alternate points of view. The final installment crossed over with the same author's unfinished Sherlock Holmes fanfic, thus indicating that the two stories take place in the same continuity. It also spawned a few instances of RecursiveFanfiction from other writers.
* The ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8192955/1/Vantage-Point Vantage Point]]'' series by [=Aggie2011=] takes place in the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse, with focus on Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Agent Coulson. Fics are set pre- and post-Avengers, and are AU by virtue of having no canon for the events covered. World building is very LikeRealityUnlessNoted, but the inner workings of SHIELD and various missions are explored.
* The ''Fanfic/BlackCrayons'' series is several ''Film/Transformers2007'' stories, mostly set after the second film ''Film/TransformersRevengeOfTheFallen'', which explore the franchise from the point of view of [[CheerfulChild Annabelle Lennox]]. It all leads up to a re-written version of [[Film/TransformersDarkOfTheMoon the third film]] which, among other things, [[AscendedExtra keeps Mikaela]] [[CompositeCharacter in the plotline]].
* The ''Fanfic/MCURewrites'' by Creator/{{letmetellyouaboutmyfeels}} are an alternate telling of installments in the ''Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse'' (specifically ''Film/AvengersAgeOfUltron'' and ''Film/CaptainAmericaCivilWar'') with an [[AdaptationExpansion expanded telling of events]], [[AscendedExtra more focus on certain characters]], [[TruerToTheText and bringing the MCU closer to the Marvel comic books]].
* ''Franchise/StarWars'' has a polish wiki Biblioteka Arkania about his fanon. This is created by a lot of users. There are several fan verses named fanonverses, for example ''Fanfic/FanonCanonVerse'' and ''Fanfic/TheComverse''.
* The X-Men Continuity Saga is a large AU {{Fanedit}} series by multiple faneditors that seeks to make the ''Film/XMenFilmSeries'' consistent without time-travel retcons removing the classic trilogy from the timeline.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Literature]]
* The [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1550595/Thanfiction [=DAYD=]verse]], a darker take on Franchise/HarryPotter started by Thanfiction and expanded upon, with the primary protagonist being Neville Longbottom. Starts with a [[Fanfic/DumbledoresArmyAndTheYearOfDarkness parallel story]] to ''Literature/HarryPotterAndTheDeathlyHallows'' and continues with the second of three books called "Sluagh," as well as numerous one-shots, missing scenes, and character profiles.
* The ''Fanfic/{{Dangerverse}}'', also for Harry Potter. Started by whydoyouneedtoknow (and yes, that is a ''Franchise/TheIncredibles'' reference), the story reimagines the canon. At last count the mainline story was at 1.18 million words and counting. As with the Dumbledore's Armyverse, there are numerous one-shots, missing scenes, and numerous AlternateUniverse fics by the author. At last count there were at least four alternate universes written by other authors.
* Author bedlamsbard on LJ has ''three'' Narniaverses -- Warsverse, Petaverse, and now possibly Casverse. Also Dustverse, which is really a continuation of Warsverse. Maybe.
* The ''Literature/LesMiserables'' fanfic ''Fanfic/ParisBurning'' is the root of one of these. The author of the initial fic and various other fans have taken the premise ([[Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers Hetalia-esque]] personifications of cities, with a rather darker tone) and run with it to create stories that, at this stage, bear little relation to the events of ''Literature/LesMiserables'' itself.
* ''Roleplay/WhatHappenedInOregon'' and ''Roleplay/WhatHappenedInEdmonton'' are set in the Oregonverse, a timeline inspired by the ''Literature/{{Steelheart}}'' novels. The main difference is the setting, with different parts of the world being explored and minor variations in how the mechanics of the [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity Epic corruption]] works.
** ''Fanfic/VanillaSabotageBadEnd'' is a [[DarkerAndEdgier Fan Verse]] of the already existing Oregonverse, where several of the few human characters gain abilities. "Fan Verse" might be a stretch, considering it is primarily written by the original creators of the characters.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Live-Action TV]]
* At its height, ''Franchise/PowerRangers'' had loads of these, including "Fanfic/PersonalityConflicts" by Ellen Brand and "Earth Crystals" by Jeremy Ray Logsden. Sadly, [[DeadFic the latter hasn't been updated in years]].
** Ellen Brand's ''WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom'' fics and her ''Detective Conan'' "Unprofessional Opinion" series are actually set in the Personality Conflicts ExpandedUniverse.
* ''FanFic/StarTraks'': This is a parody Fan Verse for Franchise/StarTrek, it covers TOS, TNG, and [=DS9=]. Also has an X-Files variant called "Traks Files".
* ''Roleplay/{{Ambassadors of Liberty}}'' is a ''Franchise/StargateVerse'' RP site with several other settings in the pipelines.
* Platform/LiveJournal author [[http://miggy.livejournal.com miggy]] has provided ''Series/{{Glee}}'' with the [[http://miggy.livejournal.com/tag/fanfiction:%20glee:%20mostverse Mostverse]], a small but growing set of {{continuation}} stories mostly centered around Rachel and Kurt going to college in the BigApplesauce and rooming together. It's remarkably in-character, not to mention OriginalFlavor.
* ''FanFic/TheHarmonVerse'', a series of ''Series/{{Glee}}'' fanfics centred around the OriginalCharacter of Jack Harmon. It includes four ongoing novelizations of ''Series/{{Glee}}'' and over 40 stories altogether.
* All of the ''Series/DoctorWho'' stories on Webcomic/RichsComixBlog ([[ShrugOfGod possibly]] with the exception of [[GuestStrip Landry Walker]]'s "Seeds of Destruction") are built around the same continuity as the blog's best-known fic ''Webcomic/The10Doctors''. This universe excludes the Franchise/DoctorWhoExpandedUniverse; and thanks to {{Crossover}}s, it also includes ''Series/ForeverKnight'' and ''WesternAnimation/{{Jem}}''.
* ''FanFic/{{Horseshoes and Hand Grenades}}'' by Green Phantom Queen has multiple stories revolving around other characters in the Series/KamenRiderFourze universe getting into fights all because Gentaro went evil, along with a PerspectiveFlip for the first 13 chapters for Gentaro and more.
* [[http://www.tthfanfic.org/Author-22082/DianeCastle.htm DianeCastle's]] ''Fanfic/TheSecretReturnOfAlexMack'' and the 'Tera-Verse' has spawned ''twenty two'' recursive fanfics including two multiple story series. The writers constantly exchange information to make sure the worldbuilding is 'Diane' approved.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Newspaper Comics]]
* Creator/{{Swing 123}} and Creator/{{garfieldodie}} have [[Fanfic/TheCalvinverse a fairly consistent universe]] in their ''ComicStrip/CalvinAndHobbes'' {{Fan Fic}}s, with [[Fanfic/CalvinAndHobbesTheMovie the]] [[Fanfic/CalvinAndHobbesIILostAtSea first]] [[Fanfic/CalvinAndHobbesIIIDoubleTrouble few]] [[Fanfic/CanYouImagineThat fics]] [[Fanfic/AttackOfTheTeacherCreature being]] [[Fanfic/TroubleIsland fake movies]] (one trilogy from each author), and the main connecting factor comes along in ''Fanfic/RetroChill'' and ''Fanfic/CalvinAndHobbesTheSeries'' from both of the authors, which uses characters from both of the trilogies (along with the side story "Prelude to a Season").
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tabletop Games]]
* ''Roleplay/FreedomCityPlayByPost'' is the largest online source for stories in the ''TabletopGame/FreedomCity'' setting. Characters use the ''TabletopGame/MutantsAndMasterminds'' rules set to make things a little more balanced than the usual collaborative free-form stories.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Theatre]]
* The ''Theatre/{{Hamilton}}'' fanfic ''Fanfic/ItFeelsMoreLikeAMemory'', written by savrenim, has two InUniverse musicals based on the fic’s events long after the fic’s events have become historical events In-Universe. One musical (also titled ''Fanfic/{{Hamilton}}'') has a synopsis, the other (''Fanfic/BurrAnAmericanMusical'') an incomplete script and audio files of some of its songs for people to peruse in real life. In-Universe, ''Fanfic/IfTheresAReason'', is the fanfiction the In-Universe version of savrenim wrote after hearing ''Burr: An American Musical''. Out of universe, ''it feels more like a memory'' has [[RecursiveFanfiction fanfic of its own]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Theme Park Attractions]]
* The ''Fanfic/HauntedMansionAndTheHatboxGhost'' is a fan verse created on Platform/DeviantArt by users Kelly-M-Mortal, Benthehyena and Scrooge Mac Duck. It focuses on the Haunted Mansion ride from the Disneyland parks, and includes short stories, a multi-chaptered fanfic, and various illustration and one-panel comics, all set in an unique Fan Verse of which the most important character is the Hatbox Ghost.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Toys]]
* ''Fanfic/TheAethionExpandedMultiverse'' is a universe where any ''Toys/{{Bionicle}}'' fanfic writer can put in their own work and be considered "fanon" for the universe.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Video Games]]
* Fritz Fraundorf's MassiveMultiplayerCrossover [[http://www.lakupo.com/fritz/fanfics/comedy.shtml comedy writings]], borrowing from every RolePlayingGame he's ever played.
* [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/55667/Erico Eric "Erico" Lawson]]'s ''Fanfic/LegacyOfMetal'' consists of over a million words of ''VideoGame/MegaManClassic'' and ''VideoGame/MegaManX'' fanfic spanning nearly two centuries of history (2039-2222). Much of it expands on the plot points of ''Fanfic/RockmanTheRobotWar'' in BroadStrokes as well. The author has posted [[http://www.themmnetwork.com/wiki/index.php?title=A_Call_to_Arms a timeline]] and [[http://www.capcom-unity.com/ericobard/blog/2008/10/07/mega_man_9_contest_when_even_a_kid_in_iowa_can_make_it retrospective descriptions of each fic]] (scroll down).
* All of the works within the ''Warcraft'' fandom by [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/204149/Weiila Weiila]] take place in the same universe.
* [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1389324/Xanrivash Xanrivash]] on fanfiction has created a fan verse for ''Franchise/KingdomHearts'' that gives the Organization members larger backstories and fleshed-out personalities.
* Thanks to the fact that the canon characters are largely skeleton characters made of tropes specifically to give the fan fic writers more latitude, ''Franchise/TouhouProject'' largely relies upon a collective subconscious understanding of what each character is, with each fan fic author slighly altering the character more in line with their own tastes (such as a violently self-centered Reimu to a just plain ambivalent Reimu), but relying upon the same tacitly agreed-upon traits. A few have proper names and are based on popular or highly-exposed fanwork; these include Walfas's math-joke-heavy Flash cartoons and the action/parody Advent Cirno. There is a minor, infamous (at least on Pooshlmer) 'verse [[CanonDefilement called]] [[DarkerAndEdgier the]] [[BlackComedy 'Soak]].
* Fan verses are extremely common in ''Franchise/MassEffect'' fandom, to the point where most fanwriters have their own verse, usually revolving around their particular [[PlayerCharacter Shepard]]. See also the [[http://www.cerberusdailynews.com/forum/index.php Cerberus Daily News forum]] where fan characters interact and RP with each other whilst still existing in the confines of the canon.
* As the game ''VideoGame/{{Oolite}}'' is itself a FanRemake of the classic ''VideoGame/{{Elite}}'', its ExpandedUniverse is basically a Fan Verse for that game by proxy.
* ''Fanfic/ImmortalityProtocolCyFox'' is a fanfic-verse derived from ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'' which takes place [[ExactlyExtyYearsAgo exty years in the future]] in what is perceived to be our reality (minus the obvious creation of the Sonic games in [[TheNineties the 1990s]])
* The ''Fanfic/{{Pokeumans}}'' series has been successful to build an entire community on the website with literally hundreds of members. They have admins, group contests, special events and even annual awards.
* ''Final Fantasy RPG'' was a collaborative verse set in a world based on Final Fantasy I, IV and VI, and shared continuity with ''Nu RPG'', a MassiveMultiplayerCrossover verse set in a world based on ''Chrono Trigger''.
* [[http://feynites.tumblr.com/ Feynite]] of ''Dragon Age'' fandom has ''two'' fan verses based off of two large multi-chaptered stories, ''The Dread Wolf's Heart'' (complete) and ''Looking Glass'' (WIP). Definitely qualifies, with fanon, fanart and RecursiveFanfiction abundant on their Tumblr and [[http://archiveofourown.org/users/Feynite Archive of Our Own account]], and perhaps unsurprisingly, crossovers. Potentially widens to three fan verses with their modern-day AlternateUniverse stories, or just one massive multiverse.
* ''Fanfic/DragonsUnite'' is a saga of many stories and accompanying pictures, based on ''Franchise/SpyroTheDragon'' but set on Earth and expanded way beyond the game's original lore, and occasionally intentionally contradicting is. It might as well be called ''Anthropomorphic Dragons On Earth - the 'Verse'' at this point.
* The ''Fanfic/SkyholdAcademyYearbook'' series is growing into one of these, with multiple stories and even in-universe fanfic penned by two of the {{original character}}s in the series. Because it's a BatFamilyCrossover for ''Franchise/DragonAge'', it can't help being an enormous project, and the authors admit that even they aren't sure just how big of a verse it's going to ultimately be.
* ''Fanfic/PokemonLightAU'' is a series of dark ''Pokémon Sword and Shield'' fics that begin after Gloria is DrivenToSuicide.
* In the ''VideoGame/{{Undertale}}'' fandom, the FandomSpecificPlot of creating WhatIf {{Alternate Universe}}s, such as ''Fanfic/{{Underswap}}'' and ''Fanfic/{{Underfell}}'', has essentially been turned into one gigantic effort by countless creators to insert them all into one multiverse, with a number of {{Alternate Sel|f}}ves of the canon characters operating on a multiverse level. For example, Ink is the protector of all the [=AUs=], CORE!Frisk can travel between all of them, Error wants them destroyed, and so on.
* ''VideoGame/StarTrekOnline'':
** ''Fanfic/TheWarOfTheMasters'' was a sprawling SharedUniverse that developed on the official forums during what became known as "The Great Content Drought".[[note]]A period of about two years before the release of the ''Legacy of Romulus'' expansion where no new content came out due to the game being starved for funds by its then-publisher Creator/{{Atari}}.[[/note]] Very much DarkerAndEdgier than the canon game, it posited {{Eldritch Abomination}}s called the Good Masters as threats, along with political corruption in the Federation that led to a cluster of planets along the Klingon border declaring independence. Naturally it ended up very much OutdatedByCanon once storyline development resumed.
** ''Fanfic/BaitAndSwitchSTO'' is a smaller 'verse of mostly short fiction written mainly by Tropers/{{StarSword}}C, with later contributions from worffan101 and takeshi6. It began to diverge quite strongly from the official storyline starting at the Iconian War, including among other things a story arc dealing with a resurgent Cardassian True Way insurgency that declared itself a new Cardassian Empire.

[[folder:Webcomics]]
* There are several fanfics by the same author with ''Webcomic/{{Terinu}}'' set in the period prior to the canon storyline, set just after the Varn Dominion's conquest of the Earth, one set in Vulpine Prime's past just prior to ''their'' conquest by the Dominion, and a notable crossover with the Season Five ''Series/StargateSG1'' team. At least a couple of fanfics by other authors have crossed over OC's, and a couple of bits of Fanon were incorporated into the main storyline by author Peta Hewitt.
* The ''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}'' fandom has a few. For instance, there's the [[http://www.mspaforums.com/showthread.php?34044 TROLL!COPS]] AU, which puts the characters in a CopShow-like modern setting. Or the [[http://www.mspaforums.com/showthread.php?34445 Population series]] -- where the twelve trolls settle down on Earth after the canon plot is over. The stories tell about how the trolls and their numerous progeny try to integrate themselves into Earth society, have wacky interpersonal hijinx, and [[HotterAndSexier lots and lots of sex]].
* Inonibird's ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid3SnakeEater'' universe from ''Webcomic/TheCobraDays'' became so popular that other fans started writing in the same universe. Some notable fics to come out of it include [[http://KaruLeonnese.deviantart.com/art/Strange-Wind-44011251 "Strange Wind"]] and Ryuichifox's art and writings about the Fear and the Fury.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Original]]
* The Literature/WhateleyUniverse, being a web-based fiction universe, makes this easier. On the [[http://www.whateleyacademy.net website]], there is a place for FanFic, and there are like 20 different authors writing additions to the Whateley world, most of the taking place (sooner or later) at SuperheroSchool Whateley Academy.
* Website/ChannelAwesome fandom tends to be, strangely, a breeding ground for this (and they're mostly DarkFic for some reason). There's FanFic/ThatGuyWithTheGlassesInSpace, FanFic/EscargoancitizenAndFriends, [[http://freya-sacksen.livejournal.com/13076.html a verse where Linkara is a Vampire Hunter]], [[http://community.livejournal.com/tgwtg_fic/tag/au:%20victorian!verse a Victorian AU]], [[{{FanFic/Hookerverse}} a Hooker!Verse]], [[http://community.livejournal.com/tgwtg_fic/tag/au:%20genderswapped!verse a verse for their genderswapped doubles]], [[http://taekarado.livejournal.com/21601.html?thread=456033#t456033 a Hypno!Verse where Insano has brainwashed everyone]] and an [[http://mediocredunces.livejournal.com/tag/universe:%20crazy-for-you AU where Linkara has snapped because of a creepy obsession with Spoony]].
* ''Fanfic/{{Cumberholmes}}'' is a fan verse based on a group of roleplayers on Platform/{{Twitter}}, and their interpretation of the characters.
* In general, all of the fanfiction written for a particular genre by [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/390166/Michael2 Michael2]] takes place in the same Fan Verse, e.g., all of the ''Series/{{Sliders}}'' fanfiction written by Michael2 is in the same [[Fanfic/ColinMallorySeries Fan Verse]].
* Fan Author {{Tropers/Allronix}} usually keeps a single continuity per fandom, meaning most of her stories for a given universe ''will'' tie together.
* ''Fanfic/ReverseRWBY'' is a ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'' role-reversal where Emerald, Mercury, Roman, Neo, Watts, Tyrian, Cinder, and Hazel are hunters training at Beacon.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* Anthony Bault took up the reins of a (relatively) well-known Fan Verse called Arcadia. It's loosely based off the "Captain N: The Game Master" theory, that all the game universes (''Sonic The Hedgehog, Super Mario, Legend of Zelda'', he's even crammed in every single anime he's ever watched into an "Ani-Earth") are connected. His work can be found [[http://www.fanfiction.net/~anthonybault here]].
** Ani-Earth is a completely different story altogether - it was a series of stories by another author that started out as a simple crossover between ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'' and Anime/TenchiMuyo and spiraled out of control there!
* The [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2434664/1/The_Life_And_Times_Of_Red_X Sanza]] [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2962153/1/Maiden_Of_Stone Salazar]] [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3466691/1/A_Tale_Of_Two_Apprentices trilogy]], a series of ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans'' fics [[AlternateUniverseFic branching off from the end of season four]] which explore the identity of the thief Red X, whose identity went unrevealed in the original series. The second fic of the trilogy is a FixFic [[spoiler: in which Terra is revived under different circumstances than in the original series finale "Things Change"]], while the third re-envisions the fifth season that the trilogy itself [[FanonDiscontinuity disregards]].
** The Sanza Salazar series is now getting a [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5304834/1/Shades_of_Gray fourth installment]] taking place shortly after the third and written by an entirely different author than the original trilogy.
** The so-called [[http://www.titanlegends.com LegendVerse]], also in the ''Teen Titans'' fandom, has existed since the end of the first season and has been added to by more than half a dozen writers, though only the originator consistently contributes to it at this point.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Daria}}'' fanfic has expanded outwards into what's actually known as the ' ''Daria Expanded Universe'' ', with such fandom-created characters as Lynn Cullen, Jim Vitale, Pat Hackney VII, Richard Rawlings, Steve the security guard, Julia Carlyle, Michael Fulton, Alfred Phelps, Veronica Morgendorffer and Col. Kyle Armalin (and that's just a ''partial'' listing) of ''Daria'' Expanded Universe original characters freely interacting with the canon characters. (''Daria'' fans know these folks as if they had been on the show itself.) On the fandom's Wiki, there's actually a listing for the ' ''Daria Multiverse'' ', and many of the original characters have Wiki entries and histories as fully fleshed-out as the canon characters.
* An [[http://tgs.gargoyles-fans.org/ impressive collaborative series]] was written for the WesternAnimation/{{Gargoyles}} series. What was notable about this was it based its story arcs on {{Word of God}} information about the future of the cartoon series, had it not been canceled. It included three "seasons" for the main Gargoyles stories, but also branched out with Brooklyn's time travel stories, the adventures of King Arthur and the London clan, and the story of the Scotland clan before its destruction.
* The ''WesternAnimation/ArthurGoesFourth'' fan-verse. Yes, an ''WesternAnimation/{{Arthur}}'' fan verse. It has two spin-offs, each set in a different grade.
* ''MASK'' has seperate fan verses active on Fanfiction.net, the ''M.A.S.K Legacy'' series co-authored by Darster and Lisa J which is packed with original characters and crossovers with G.I Joe, and a universe shared by authors Zarius and Miratete, which attempts to be a little closer in spirit to the original cartoon, whilst still finding room for more adult subject matter
* ''WesternAnimation/TransformersAnimated'' has [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1868950/Artisan_Brown three]] [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1339005/ prominent]] [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1454908/Consuelo_Higdon authors]] who influence each other and built their own Fan Verses by bouncing off their ideas. There are a ton of minor universes they write about, and they seem to have a blatant disregard for canon, so avoid if that doesn't work for you.
* The ''WesternAnimation/ChipNDaleRescueRangers'' fandom has a couple of its own, started as a [[{{Continuity}} continuous]] series of FanFic and often picked up by other authors than the original one. The first one was the series ''Fanfic/TheAdventuresOfGadgetHackwrench'' which, after the success of the epic hallmark ''Fanfic/RhymeAndReason'', encouraged Rangerphiles to start writing and sort of launched the Ranger fandom's rich FanFic tradition. The most famous example, however, is ''Fanfic/TheNowakverse''. Others are, for instance, ''Chip Noir Dale's Rescue Rangers'' or ''Fanfic/TheMidnightverse''.
* In the early days of the ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'' cartoons (specifically ''WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM''), several {{Fandom VIP}}s, such as Bookshire Draftwood and Dan Drazen, did this. In fact, they did it in such a way that their own verses could theoretically fit into each other's with little difficulty. These {{Fan Verse}}s got so large and popular that dozens of other writers over the years contributed with episodic stories that could also slip right in, culminating in a pretty massive web with hundreds of connected stories.
* ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' fan-verses:
** ''FanFic/FalloutEquestria'', a crossover with ''VideoGame/{{Fallout}}''. To put this in perspective, the original story alone is, at 608,000 words, [[DoorStopper nearly fifty thousand words longer than]] ''Literature/WarAndPeace'', and the RecursiveFanfiction ''FanFic/FalloutEquestriaProjectHorizons'' (which has in turn spawned its own recursive fics) has ''over a million words''.
** ''Fanfic/RainbowDoubleDashsLunaverse'' is a RoleSwapAU. A collaborative effort, it has already finished a "season" and a "movie", and is now working on Season 2.
** ''The Fanfic/TheCadanceverse'', inspired by the ''Lunaverse'', is another collaborative alternate universe, created by one of the Lunaverse's top contributors.
** ''Fanfic/BodyguardAU'' is a fan-verse where Queen/Princess Rarity has a mutual crush on her bodyguard Twilight Sparkle.
** ''Fanfic/TheConversionBureau'' is a series of stories by multiple authors with the same basic premise: Equestria has suddenly appeared to Earth and its presence is killing all life on Earth, so the ponies provide humans with a serum that turns them into ponies. Things go horribly wrong.
* ''Fanfic/ThePiratesverse,'' a series of fics that serve as a continuation of ''WesternAnimation/ThePiratesInAnAdventureWithScientists.''
* The ''FanFic/StarlightSeries'', a series of fanfics crossing ''WesternAnimation/LiloAndStitchTheSeries'' with ''Franchise/StarTrek'' and ''Anime/CardcaptorSakura''.
* ''WesternAnimation/GravityFalls'' seems to be a magnet for fan-made alternate universes:
** ''Fanfic/ReverseFallsAU'', in which Gideon Gleeful and Pacifica Northwest are the heroes and Dipper and Mabel Pines are the villains (with Bill Cipher as their wimpy bound demon servant), with the overall tone being DarkerAndEdgier.
** ''Fanfic/TranscendenceAU'', in which rather than the actual events of the show's finale[[note]]this AU actually predates "Weirdmageddon" by two years, but [[IKnewIt accurately predicted]] Bill's plans[[/note]], Dipper ends getting possessed as a last-ditch effort by a dying Bill Cipher. Although Dipper is able to fight Bill off and kill him, he fused with the leftovers and became a demon who goes by the name Alcor, albeit one with an unusually strong connection to the physical world and no upper cap on his power level. It also caused Gravity Falls' weirdness to spread out over the world in an event known as the Transcendence. Dipper's demonic upgrade makes him [[CompleteImmortality immortal]], and he spends the next several million years trying to hold onto his humanity and watching over the descendants and reincarnations of his loved ones, [[DownerEnding until his suicide after the heat death of the universe]]. It's a bit unusual in that there's no central fic: rather, there's a blog whose mods are the authorities on what is or isn't canon for the verse (particularly Mod Z, or Zilleniose on Tumblr), but in general the verse's canon is pretty loose and open to contribution from anyone.
** ''Monster Falls'', in which the people of Gravity Falls are some way or another (usually by Bill Cipher's influence) turned into various monsters: Dipper is usually a deer-centaur or faun (also known as "Deerper"), Mabel is either a mermaid or a unicorn-centaur, Grunkle Stan is a gargoyle, Wendy is a werewolf, and so on.
** ''[[http://relativityfalls.tumblr.com/ Relativity Falls]]'', an age-swap fan 'verse in which young Stanley and Stanford Pines spend the summer with their "Grauntie Mabel" investigating the weird goings-on in Gravity Falls with a teenage Manly Dan and handy-woman Maria Ramirez (Soos's grandmother). [[spoiler:They later meet Dipper, who is the Author in this universe.]]
** Sailorleo's ''[[http://sailorleo.tumblr.com/tagged/reunion-falls Reunion Falls]]'', in which Dipper and Mabel were SeparatedAtBirth, and Mabel comes to Gravity Falls to meet her long-lost twin. Other notable features of this AU include an increased role for Grenda and Candy, and some Mabel x Pacifica shipping.
** [[https://lemonfodrizzleart.tumblr.com/tagged/mystery-farm-au The Mystery Farm AU]] by lemonfordrizzleart stars Stanley and Stanford who run their family farm as it becomes the center of strange activities after a UFO is discovered in the area.
* In the ''WesternAnimation/StarVsTheForcesOfEvil'' fandom, the ShipToShipCombat that sprung up in the aftermath of [[WhamEpisode "Bon Bon the Birthday Clown"]] inspired the ''Webcomic/ShipWarAU'' (AKA "Diaz Half-Siblings"), inspired by [[http://moringmark.tumblr.com/post/153384123168 this fan comic]] where Star and Marco's KidFromTheFuture butts heads with Jackie and Marco's kid from an alternate future over which mother will be the one with whom their father ends up. Related to this is the FandomSpecificPlot that said comic also inspired, which has Marco's future children from various timelines traveling back in time for a variety of reasons (though ship-to-ship combat naturally results, however briefly).
* ''WesternAnimation/TheLoudHouse'' managed to build one based around the popular (if ''incredibly'' controversial) IncestYayShipping fandom known as ''Webcomic/SinKidsAU'', which chronicle the adventures of Lincoln's children fathered with his sisters and/or the various other females in the series, as well as how both generations deal with the fallout of said children, over various fanarts and fanfictions by different authors.
* ''The Powerpuff Girls Declassified Universe'' is a fan-verse of dark ''Franchise/ThePowerpuffGirls'' reimaginings starting with ''Fanfic/ProjectPowerpuffDeclassified''.
* After ''WesternAnimation/StevenUniverseFuture'' ended with Steven leaving Beach City to travel the country, a popular crossover AU known as "Steven's Summer Job" had Steven end up in WesternAnimation/GravityFalls, where he settles for a while (usually reluctantly, after his car gets wrecked by a local monster), and takes a part-time job at the Mystery Shack. HilarityEnsues as he bonds with the Pines Family and is open about his Gem half even as Dipper remains an AgentMulder around Steven.
* The Fanfic/{{Heroverse}} is one of ''WesternAnimation/TheLoudHouse'' where all of the Loud Siblings are superheroes and each story focuses on one of them in some adventure.
* Another WesternAnimation/TheLoudHouse example is the [[Fanfic/InTheNeuHouse Neu House]]. Created by [[https://www.deviantart.com/brsstarjv BRSstarJV]], the story follows Lucas Mackenzie as he gets tangled up in the adventures of the Neu Family, a family of magical, supernatural, and scientific people beyond his wildest imagination! While originally using Lincoln as the protagonist, the AU underwent a reboot when [[https://www.deviantart.com/raishags RaishaGS]], [[https://www.deviantart.com/librarywizard LibraryWizard]], and [[https://www.deviantart.com/ch53transportheli Ch53transportheli]] joined the scene, demoting most of the Loud House characters to extras. As of 2021, the series has been on hiatus, but a webcomic is still planned.
