One way to make a character look creepy is to have deep, dark circles surrounding their eyes in the form of shadows or natural pigmentation, giving them a sinister, skull-like appearance. Often goes hand in hand with EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette and EvilOldFolks, combined with EvilEyebrows.

A character that LooksLikeCesare tends to have these eyes, as well as TheInsomniac, CreepyLonerGirl, and other deranged characters, since eye pigmentation can occur from lack of sleep (though if this is just temporary see ExhaustedEyeBags). Some characters may artificially try to replicate this effect with make-up, resulting in ExcessiveEvilEyeshadow, or {{Guyliner}}, but it just doesn't have the same effect and is not the trope. (Though an artist or makeup person who overdoes the effect may make the character look a bit like they’ve been hitting the eyeshadow.)

Compare FaceFramedInShadow. When the whole eyes are in shadow, to the point that you can't make them out at all, it's HiddenEyes. This effect may be induced or go hand in hand with a KubrickStare.

!!Examples:

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Anime & Manga]]
* Dr. Hiyari and daughter Hiyariko from ''Literature/{{Anpanman}}''. They're both [[MadScientist mad scientists]]. Thanks to the simple artwork of the series, their eyes express this by being a dark ring around their eyes (black for Dr. Hiyari, dark purple for Hiyariko).
%%* Lovro from ''Manga/AssassinationClassroom''.
%%* Somewhat downplayed compared to some examples, but Fyodor Dostoyevsky from ''Manga/BungouStrayDogs'' has distinct undereye shadows.
* ''Manga/CaseClosed:''
** Shuichi Akai, FBI agent and [[PragmaticHero good guy]] is drawn having eyes which have permanent bags underneath them that make him appear sleep deprived and other characters describe him as evil-eyed. It even becomes a PlotPoint: Both Conan and the readers use his distinctive look to identify him [[spoiler:when in disguise]] - and also relatives of his, such as his sister Masumi Sera, who has the same eyes, and Mary, the mysterious girl hiding in Sera's hotel room.
** While jokes are made at her being a night owl, such as calling her an "evil-eyed yawning girl", Ai Haibara doesn't normally possess them. However, an arc that features a minor event of Haibara and Ayumi getting makeup put on them ends with Haibara looking like she has bags under her eyes while she's cleaning it off. Conan sees this and ''immediately'' notices [[spoiler:a striking resemblance between Haibara and Mary]].
* ''Manga/DeathNote'':
** L, an EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette, has circles around his eyes so dark, he has the fan nickname "Panda".
** Light in the manga is shown to have dark circles around his eyes after he became Kira [[spoiler: that magically disappear with his MemoryGambit]].
%%* Prandine/Fallow from ''Anime/DeltoraQuest'' has these, though they extend out into bags underneath his eyes as well.
%%* The first sign that Taro has been possessed by a demon in Anime/DevilManCrybaby is that he gains these kind of eyes.
%%* Miranda from ''Manga/DGrayMan'', though heroic, has these to reflect her [[TheEeyore gloominess]] and [[TheInsomniac lack of sleep]]. They also add to her EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette appearance.
%%* Flare Corona, [[spoiler: previously]] a member of [[EvilCounterpart Raven Tail]], has these, from ''Manga/FairyTail''. As does [[spoiler:Acnologia in his human form]].
%%* Almost every character in ''Manga/HoukagoPlay'' has this -- partly because many of them are hardcore gamers, and partly because of the art style.
%%* Madame Hecuba and her son Tulip the giant from ''Anime/JackAndTheBeanstalk1974''.
%%* Several monsters and villains in ''Anime/KirbyRightBackAtYa'' seem to have these, such as Octacon, Blocky, Yamikage, the Broom King, Kung Fu Lee, Belly Buster in its true form, Giant Squishy, Trash Basher, Nekketsu, Fang, Chuckie (only when using his demon face), Phan Phan while brainwashed by Whippy, and Devil Kirby & Devil King Dedede.
* ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia:'' Gentle and La Brava both have thick black lines around their eyes. They're only natural in La Brava's case, the result of countless nights since a middle school love rejection spent in front of a computer in deep depression. When she made the decision to approach Gentle, she wasn't able to do anything about them and hoped he wouldn't be put off. On the contrary, he accepted her gladly and, upon noticing how much she stressed over them regardless, took up drawing dark rings under his own eyes to emphasize their partnership. In the present the rings look almost like domino masks when coupled with their costumes. %% Remember to do proper ExampleIndentation if you expand one of the below examples.
%%** Hitoshi Shinso in has these, and combined with his MindControl powers, they make him look like someone who would end up a villain. Nevertheless, he really wants to be a hero.
%%** An actual villain character named Dabi actually has those in the form of seemingly having [[FacialHorror burnt or no skin at all]] below his eyes.
* ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'': In the original Japanese, Gaara's darkly circled eyes are expressly stated to be {{Tanuki}}-like marks he was born with, signifying the animal the Tailed Beast [[SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan sealed within him]] resembles, much like the way Naruto has [[TanukiKitsuneContrast whisker-marks resembling those of a fox]] (whose own Tailed Beast is based on the [[AsianFoxSpirit Kitsune]]). In the English dub, they were explained to be caused by his insomnia, which not only makes sense (rather than just assuming the audience wouldn't know what a Tanuki was or just calling it a "raccoon demon") but significantly ups the creep-factor.
* This is the identifying trait of Tomoko Kuroki from ''Manga/NoMatterHowILookAtItItsYouGuysFaultImNotPopular'', which reduces her physical appeal and self-esteem. Strangely enough, it seems to be genetic since her brother and her mother have eye bags as well. The mother's are less pronounced, though, suggesting the siblings (or at least Tomoko) made theirs worse through poor sleeping habits.
%%* Trafalgar Law, the "Surgeon of Death" from ''Manga/{{One Piece}}''.
* In one epsiode of ''Anime/PokemonTheSeriesRubyAndSapphire'', Ash is [[DemonicPossession possessed by]] [[ItMakesSenseInContext an ancient king in an orb]], complete with magic eyeliner.
%%* Hikaru Gosunkugi from ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf.''
* ''Manga/SchoolZoneGirls'': High school girl Fuji was either born with tremendous bags under her eyes, or she developed one hell of a psycho stare after spending every waking moment at the arcade trying to win a stuffed animal from a crane game.
%%* Many of the antagonists from ''Anime/YuGiOh'', including Yami Marik, Yami Bakura, and Bonz.
%%* In ''Anime/YuGiOhGX'', Johan gets these when [[spoiler: he is possessed by Yubel.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* ''ComicBook/AnyasGhost'': [[spoiler:Emily has these in her news article picture that inform Anya she was a murderer, not murdered.]]
%%* Creator/JimStarlin always draws [[ComicBook/Warlock1967 Adam Warlock]] this way.
%%* ComicBook/{{Morbius}} [[OurVampiresAreDifferent the Living Vampire]] is commonly drawn like this.
* ''ComicBook/TheLegendOfWonderWoman2016'': After becoming Hades' high priestess Menalippe has constant prominent dark circles.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* ''Fanfic/DanganronpaParadiseLost'': Junpei Ichikawa, an antagonistic, jaded StrawNihilist, is the only participant to be depicted with shadowed undereyes, to emphasize his unsettling temperament.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Animated]]
%%* ''WesternAnimation/AladdinAndTheKingOfThieves'': Sa'luk, second-in command of the Forty Thieves, sports a pair.
%%* Rasputin from ''WesternAnimation/{{Anastasia}}''. This is a common character design used by Creator/DonBluth for his villains in just about every movie he did.
%%* Steele from ''WesternAnimation/{{Balto}}''.
%%* Ronno has these in both ''WesternAnimation/Bambi'' and the midquel ''WesternAnimation/BambiII''. While the first film merely has him and Bambi fighting over Faline, the second establishes him as a bully who antagonises Bambi at several opportunities.
%%* Gaston gets these in the last third of ''WesternAnimation/BeautyAndTheBeast'', to show that he's a NotSoHarmlessVillain now.
%%* Joe the pilotfish from ''WesternAnimation/HelpImAFish''.
%%* Drago Bludvist from ''WesternAnimation/HowToTrainYourDragon2''.
%%* Frollo from ''WesternAnimation/{{The Hunchback of Notre Dame|Disney}}'' actually has purple shadows.
%%* Scar and his hyenas from ''WesternAnimation/TheLionKing1994''.
%%** The Outsiders in ''WesternAnimation/TheLionKingIISimbasPride''. The main difference between a good lion and a bad lion in this series seems to be tons of eyeliner.
%%* In ''WesternAnimation/PoetAndersonTheDreamWalker'', for Jonas, in the waking world and as Poet, though he's definitely the protagonist.
%%* Sir Ruber from ''WesternAnimation/QuestForCamelot''.
* [[HumanoidAbomination Pitch]], the villain of ''WesternAnimation/RiseOfTheGuardians'', has sunken pale-yellow eyes and deep, dark shadows under them.
* Arrow from ''[[WesternAnimation/RudolphTheRedNosedReindeer1998 Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Movie]]''. The fur around his eyes are darker than the rest of his body, to show he is a JerkAss.
%%* Queen Grimhilde has these in her old hag form from ''WesternAnimation/SnowWhiteAndTheSevenDwarfs''.
%%* The Efrafan rabbits from ''WesternAnimation/WatershipDown''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Live-Action]]
* Loki has dark circles under his eyes in ''Film/TheAvengers2012'', especially notable in his first scene, to emphasise his BigBadSlippage between ''Film/{{Thor}}'' and ''The Avengers'', in which he is the main villain and generally much more menacing than he was in the former (in which he didn't have them). Completed with a KubrickStare. Attentive viewers will notice the people he mind controls also develop them, probably because he [[FridgeHorror doesn't let them stop working to sleep.]]
* The "thralls" in ''Film/AvengersGrimm'' sport ExcessiveEvilEyeshadow that's intended to be natural coloring from their curse.
%%* The Penguin sports these from ''Film/BatmanReturns''.
* Betelgeuse from, well, ''Film/{{Beetlejuice}}'' has dark rings around his eyes and is a malevolent ghost. This is actually due to the fact that Creator/TimBurton originally conceived the character as having no eyes at all but changed his mind after noticing how expressive Creator/MichaelKeaton's were.
%%* Sister Ruth in ''Film/BlackNarcissus'' goes mad and has these just before [[spoiler: she tries to push Sister Clodagh off a cliff.]]
%%* The alien horror from ''Film/TheCrawlingHand'' produces this effect in its hosts when it infects them.
%%* PlayedForLaughs in ''Film/{{Fiddler on the Roof}}'' during Tevye's "dream" sequence; all the dead departed have them.
%%* Bond henchman Dario from ''Film/LicenceToKill'' (of course, he has them naturally since he's played by Creator/BenicioDelToro).
* Gríma Wormtongue from ''Film/TheLordOfTheRings'' film series is a deceptive, manipulative and evil character with a very creepy and offputting appearance. Creator/BradDourif is made up to look extremely pale with heavy bags under his eyes: [[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/villains/images/1/19/Gríma_Wormtongue.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20140518210455]]
* Riff Raff, TheIgor [[spoiler: who is secretly plotting against his master]] in ''Film/TheRockyHorrorPictureShow'': Creator/RichardOBrien is made up to look deathly pale with dark circles under his eyes that practically make him look like a raccoon in some shots. He generally comes across as very sinister and offputting. Given that the character is Frank's BeleagueredAssistant and a drug addict, there might be some overlap with ExhaustedEyeBags, but it's certainly menacing and by the end of the film he's proved himself to be very dangerous.
%%* Mike, by his second trip to the loony bin, in ''Film/TruthOrDareACriticalMadness''.
%%* Leyla's father in ''Film/WhenDarknessFalls''. Especially eerie since he is kind of [[LeanAndMean skinny]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Literature]]
%%* In ''[[Literature/CircleOfMagic Street Magic]]'', Jebbun Stoneslicer has eyes like these.
%%* ''Literature/HarryPotter'''s [[EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette Sirius Black and Bellatrix Lestrange]], after they got out of Azkaban. Actually, most Azkaban prisoners and Death Eaters probably had this.
%%* Nico de Angelo, from ''Literature/PercyJacksonAndTheOlympians'', has these after he TookALevelInBadass
* In ''Literature/TheTwilightSaga'', all the vampires are described as having dark 'bruised' shadows under their eyes, implied to be a symptom of never sleeping.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Live Action TV]]
* Common in members of ''Series/TheAddamsFamily'':
** Wednesday has a fairly mild case (the film version has them slightly more noticeably, and is creepier, but even in the show Wednesday can be pretty creepy...after all, she's a 6-year-old girl who keeps pet spiders and plays with guillotines).
** Fester in the TV show has quite pronounced eyebags, and otherwise [[LooksLikeOrlok looks like a fat version of Orlok]]--again, the 90s films then exaggerate this to the point of looking more like Music/AliceCooper makeup.
** Unlike the others, the shadows under Gomez's eyes are often ''more'' prominent in the show than in the films--though they vary from episode to episode, and in some cases look more like straight-up GuyLiner than natural dark circles. They certainly accentuate his frequent KubrickStare and CheshireCatGrin or sometimes full-on SlasherSmile. [[https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/885155952330956820/996372587036811324/unknown.png]] is one example where it's particularly noticeable, and ambiguously either this trope or GuyLiner. (Or both--given the Addams Family's gothic perspective on the world, they probably consider such features attractive, so it would make sense for them to play them up with makeup even if they naturally have them.)
%%* In the 2015 [=BBC=] version of ''Literature/AndThenThereWereNone'', Vera develops a bad case as events progress.
%%* Some versions of the Master from ''Series/DoctorWho'' are shown with evil eyeshadow, later invoked by the 21st-century John Simm incarnation of the character, who intentionally wears GuyLiner.
%%* Crazy Harry from ''Series/TheMuppetShow''.
%%* ''Very'' effectively used in the ''Series/NightGallery'' episode ''The Doll''.
* ''Series/{{Riverdale}}'': Jughead, a tall, EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette has perpetual dark shadows under his eyes and does not look like he gets much sleep at all -- it lends to his CreepyGood and slightly intimidating appearance.
* In the ''Series/{{Supernatural}}'' episode [[Recap/SupernaturalS02E21AllHellBreaksLoosePartOne "All Hell Breaks Loose, Part One" (S02, Ep21)]], the Acheri demon has dark circles around her eyes.
* ''Series/KitchenNightmares'': One particularly infamous episode, "Amy's Baking Company", featured the titular ''[[HairTriggerTemper crazy]]'' owner who wore a lot of mascara and also had very wide, intense eyes, giving her a creepy stare.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Music]]
* This seems to be a trademark of Music/{{Vocaloid}} PVs animated by Sidu. She is known for her dark illustrations, and as such several of the characters she draws have these shadows under their eyes.
%%* Shintaro from Music/KagerouDaze sports these. They are likely due to a lack of sleep caused by his survivor's guilt. Whatever the reason, they definitely help to characterize Shintaro as a somewhat mentally unstable socially awkward recluse. The Kagerou Daze series of videos was also illustrated by Sidu.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Video Games]]
* All human characters in ''VideoGame/DontStarve'' have them, but the most prominent belong to [[MadScientist Wilson]], [[CreepyChild Wendy]], and [[BigBad Maxwell]]. They all go insane pretty quickly, except Maxwell.
* Loghain in ''VideoGame/DragonAgeOrigins'' has extremely dark circles under his eyes. Though his high stress life makes it totally reasonable for him to have them, the cartoonish appearance of his dark circles has been the subject of much mockery, and even lead many players to correctly predict his treachery and resultant villain status. Some of them were apparently so irritated by the raccoon rings around his eyes that they created mods to tone them down.
%%* [[OurSpiritsAreDifferent Cole]] from ''VideoGame/DragonAgeInquisition'' has these, along with pale skin and CreepyBlueEyes. They give him an eerie, unworldly appearance, and help indicate his nature as a spirit taken human form. Unlike other examples, however, he is not evil, and is actually [[CreepyGood one of the most moral characters to join the Inquisition.]]
%%* Knight of the Seal Hanch in ''[[VideoGame/{{Drakengard}} Drakengard 2]]'' has these, as a result of the magical pact that cost her her beauty and attractiveness in general.
%%* ''VideoGame/FireEmblemThreeHouses'':
%%** Dimitri has these [[spoiler: after the timeskip while he's fixated on killing Edelgard to avenge his deceased family and friends. They go away when his mental health improves.]]
%%** [[ShrinkingViolet Marianne]] of the Golden Deer also has these, they go away after the time skip.
%%** ''{{Exaggerated}}'' with Constance of the Ashen Wolves if she is exposed to sunlight, as the ''whole top half of her face is completely darkened!'' Why? ''[[ShrinkingViolet Hoo]] [[DarkAndTroubledPast boy!]]''
* Colonel Radec removes his goggles at one point in ''VideoGame/{{Killzone 2}}'', showing that he is quite pale and unhealthy looking with pronounced bags and redness under his eyes.
* Members of the Parasite Unit in ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolidVThePhantomPain'' have faded inkblot-like markings around their eyes, caused by the parasites living under their skin. This, combined with their paleness and erratic movements, reinforces their "undead" appearance.
%%* Looking closely in ''VideoGame/MetroidPrime'', you can see that [[OurDragonsAreDifferent Ridley]] has these combined with FireballEyeballs.
%%* Mr. Sandman in ''VideoGame/PunchOut'' gains these in his Title Defense match in the Wii version. Dude must've lost ''a lot'' of sleep losing to Little Mac.
%%* The Thwomps from the ''Franchise/SuperMarioBros'' series games. The [[OurGhostsAreDifferent Boos]] have them in ''VideoGame/LuigisMansion'', and in [[VideoGame/LuigisMansionDarkMoon the sequel]] they're used to help distinguish King Boo from his servants.
* The Medic in ''VideoGame/TeamFortress2'' has dark circles under his eyes and is a deranged mercenary who experiments on people. They're fairly subtle, but compared to the other characters it's a reasonably noticeable feature. It's probably to make his eyes stand out behind his [[FourEyesZeroSoul glasses]], show that he's no spring chicken, and suggest that he's the kind of person who likely stays up late doing [[MadDoctor horrible medical experiments]]. And maybe the stress of his thankless job is getting to him.
* ''VideoGame/{{Tekken}}'': Sergei Dragunov has the LooksLikeCesare part down with black hair, pale skin and dark circles under his sunken eyes. In story, he is widely feared as the [[RedBaron "White Angel of Death"]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Visual Novels]]
%%* Ayumi has these in ''VisualNovel/CorpsePartyD2DepthsOfDespair'', showing how badly the TraumaCongaLine she suffered as a teenager and the enduring SurvivorGuilt has affected her.
* Kanato Sakamaki from ''VisualNovel/DiabolikLovers'' has a pale complexion and sunken eyes. It gives his face a skull-like effect which reflects his morbid and vindictive personality, but also contrasts with his child-like demeanor - he carries around a stuffed bear and he cries easily.
%%* [[spoiler:Kanae Hokari]] from [=ClockUp=]'s ''Euphoria'' sports these in the True Ending [=CG=]s where [[spoiler:she's been shot and killed by Keisuke.]]
* Prosecutor Simon Blackquill in ''VisualNovel/PhoenixWrightAceAttorneyDualDestinies'' has dark streaks under both eyes. Combined with his dark hair and pale skin, they make him look creepy, but also somewhat pitiable; [[AllThereInTheManual the artbook]] states they're the result of [[spoiler:him crying while in prison and never bothering to wipe the tears]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Webcomics]]
%%* ''Webcomic/ComicBookSNAFU'' gives Baron Zemo these to highlight his obsession with winning at any cost.
%%* Persephone from ''Webcomic/DestroyerOfLight'' has those. It's a subtle hint that she's a bit [[DarkIsNotEvil darker]] than her mother, Demeter.
%%* Dongtae from ''Webcomic/DiceTheCubeThatChangesEverything'' had noticeable permanent bags under his eyes that he thinks could beat a panda. They don't help his already poor self esteem.
%%* Azuu of ''Webcomic/ElijahAndAzuu'' has visible bags under his eyes constantly, but he doesn't have it nearly as bad as his son, who has very obvious Creepy Shadowed Undereyes (and both also have a case of RedEyesTakeWarning to boot).
* ''Webcomic/GirlGenius'': After the TimeSkip Gil remains awake for weeks while in TheMadnessPlace with his self control slipping and gets dark circles around his eyes as a result. Fittingly these bruise like dark circles become even more pronounced when [[spoiler:he's [[DemonicPossession not the one in the driver's seat]]]].
%%* ''Webcomic/TheGuideToAHealthyRelationship'': Julian, because they're permanently stressed out by their hallucinations and TheInsomniac.
%%* ''Webcomic/GunnerkriggCourt'' has Jack while he was [[spoiler: going crazy from the influence of a spider-like entity from Zimmy's MentalWorld]]. Averted by Winsbury, who's a {{jerkass}} initially, but otherwise completely normal. Zimmy (whose eyes are completely covered in black gunk) has these even when her eyes are washed out. Gamma has them as well, presumably because she hardly ever sleeps.
%%* In ''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}'', all of the [[OurTrollsAreDifferent Trolls]] have these, but it's especially noticeable on insomniac Karkat, Nepeta, whose quality of sleep is presumably lessened because she doesn't have a proper "bed", Vriska and Eridan, for whom it's largely inexplicable, and Sollux, on the rare occasion he's pictured without his glasses. Equius seems to have this too, but since his are the same colour as his blood it's likely that they're petechiae, possibly incurred in fights with his robots, although autoerotic asphyxiation is a potential cause as well.
%%* ''Webcomic/LovelyLovecraft'': Howard has dark circles around his eyes, although their level of noticeably shifts (sometimes darker, sometimes lighter).
%%* Jonas, now and again, in ''WebComic/ThePhoenixRequiem''. He's normally something of a PrettyBoy, but the physical stress of dispelling shades and contact with the spirits wrecks his health and it really shows. [[spoiler:They're there again in the ending when he becomes a {{Psychopomp}}, since he can't get regular meals and sometimes drugs himself to ease the passage of souls.]]
%%* Shazam in ''Webcomic/SomethingPositive,'' after [[YouDontWantToKnow his face]] is [[TheFaceless finally revealed]].
* ''Webcomic/StandStillStaySilent'': Väinö, the elderly solitary guardian mage of a ForbiddenZone border whose only regular companions are his seagull helpers, has eyes that are beady and have pronounced outlines compared to the rest of the cast.
* Exaggerated with ''Webcomic/StarImpact'''s [[BloodKnight Etna]], for the entirety of the area around her eyes is wreathed in shadow to highlight her [[AttackAttackAttack manic nature]] in the ring. Even when she's [[https://www.starimpactcomic.com/comic/chapter-3-page-33 leaning all the way back]], the shadow doesn't go away.
%%* Zalvetta the ninja of ''WebAnimation/ThrillingIntent'' has these. He is also a sociopathic killer.
* DeadpanSnarker Colin from ''Webcomic/TwoKeys'' has this, as seen in the picture above. Which is actually a milder version. Sometimes he has this to the point where it looks like he's got the BlackEyesOfEvil. It's unclear whether he has this due to insomnia, [[spoiler: If his magic has a physically draining effect on him]] or if it has something to do with his MysteriousPast. Not to be confused with when he has his occasional moments of BlackEyesOfCrazy.
%%* Colin from ''Webcomic/TwoKeys'' who is an EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette with huge dark circles around his eyes, which sometimes double as HiddenEyes, reflecting both his dark past and mysteriousness.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Original]]
%%* ''WebVideo/MarbleHornets'': Tim exhibits this in Entry #64. [[spoiler: Apparently, it's a symptom of close encounters with [[Franchise/TheSlenderManMythos Slendy]].]]
%%* [[AxCrazy Fluttershy]] in the ''WebAnimation/PonyDotMov'' series.
* WebVideo/FreshyKanal's ''Rap Battle!'': In "[[Literature/PetSematary Zelda Goldman]] vs. [[Film/{{Hereditary}} Charlie Graham]]", Charlie is drawn with shadows around her eyes, adding the creepiness to the CreepyChild.
* In ''WebVideo/HalfLifeButTheAIIsSelfAware'', the [[spoiler: main antagonist]] Benrey is depicted in the thumbnail art and in fan works with dark shadows under his eyes to distinguish him from other security guards.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Western Animation]]
%% * ''WesternAnimation/AladdinTheSeries'': Al's evil twin (created by Chaos) in ''When Chaos Comes Calling" has these.
%% * Jon the meth addict from the ''WesternAnimation/AmericanDad'' episode "Adventures in Hayleysitting".
%%* The Joker and Ra's al Ghul in ''WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries''.
%%* In the ''WesternAnimation/{{Ben 10}}'' franchise, both Kevin Levin (Pre-HeelFaceTurn) and Aggregor have these. This actually a genetic trait, seeing as they are both Osmosians, who get this way after absorbing energy.
%%* [[PoliticallyIncorrectVillain Amanda]] from ''WesternAnimation/BunsenIsABeast'' has a red outline and shadow around her eyes.
%%* Leonardo Leonardo from ''WesternAnimation/ClerksTheAnimatedSeries''.
* Several ''WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom'' villains have dark circles under their eyes for the look of evil, starting with Vlad.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheGhostAndMollyMcgee'': Scratch and the other ghosts have black sockets with sunken eyes, giving them a creepy look.
* [[NeverSmileAtACrocodile Kiburi]] from ''WesternAnimation/TheLionGuard'' has dark markings around his eyes, along with a marking under his chin which resembles a BeardOfEvil.
* ''WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes'' shorts directed by Creator/ChuckJones often have characters gain an eye shadow if they're really angry or stressed.
* ''WesternAnimation/MiraculousLadybug'': [[VillainPossessedBystander Akumatized victims]] almost always have a red stained patch around their eyes. A handful of corner cases[[note]]Catalyst and Chameleon (akumatized with consent rather than a MomentOfWeakness) lack the eye patches, while Startrain (akumatized by accident, far outside Hawk Moth's range) has them, and Qilin gains them long before Shadow Moth decides to akumatize her[[/note]] suggest that this coloration represents their negative emotions.
%%* Many animated versions of actor Creator/PeterLorre depicted him with these kind of eyes.
%%* Brain's arch enemy Snowball the hamster from ''WesternAnimation/PinkyAndTheBrain''.
%%* Imp in both ''WesternAnimation/SheRaPrincessOfPower'' and ''WesternAnimation/SheRaAndThePrincessesOfPower'' sports these, though they're more pronounced, and effective, in the latter version.
%%* The citizens of Bikini Bottom get these while under the influence of jerktonium in the stop-motion %%''WesternAnimation/SpongebobSquarepants'' special "It's A Spongebob Christmas".
%%* The Proto-Clown and Pineapple Pokopo from ''WesternAnimation/TheTick''.
%%* Mr. Hitcher from ''WesternAnimation/TinyToonAdventures''.
* Mike's evil personality Mal from ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama All Stars'' has two main distinguishing features from his good alter: his [[HidingBehindYourBangs bangs covering one eye]] and the shadows under the eyes. When he impersonates Mike by putting up his hair, the shadowy eyes remain as a visual cue that it's Mal.
