->Roman: And if I, like, say no, y'know?\
Brutus: Then you'll, like, get to be dinner for the lions in the circus, Y'KNOW!
-->-- ComicBook/Asterix, Recap/AsterixAndSon

There are many ways to insult, but one of the most common ones is to simply copy them (to their face or no). In fact, the verb "mock" can mean both "to ridicule" and "to copy". Perhaps this is because they're pointing out what is most ridiculous about the person they're insulting.

They often try to make the person they're copying look especially stupid by putting on a dumb version of their voice, adding insults into their description of the person, (e.g. "Look, I'm Alice, I'm really uncoordinated and have two stupid kids!"), or acting deliberately clumsy while pretending to be the person.

Any parody that's not an AffectionateParody (see TakeThat) could be a variation on this trope. It's also the reason behind things like blackface (racists would insult black people by pretending to be black themselves) but plenty of children who use Copycat Mockery don't grow up to be bigots. If an adult uses Copycat Mockery, they're often childish or mouthy. On the internet, there's a trend of [=wRiTiNg LiKe ThIs=] when quoting something that the person writing it perceives as dumb.

Compare NoYou and StopCopyingMe. Can be TheDissTrack if in song. Contrast PretenderDiss and IrritationIsTheSincerestFormOfFlattery. Compare and contrast with HandPuppetMockery. Sometimes follows a YourMom joke (e.g. "Well, your mom..."). Not to be confused with KnockingTheKnockoff, which is about one work taking a potshot at another seen as ripping it off.

Olympia hits him with a gadget she dubs the "Nice-inator", which makes him do a complete 180 from being rude to being far more kind, and as the two agents walk away, Olympia tells Otis that the "Nice-inator" is really a flashlight and that the client had the power to be nice in him all along.
** In "Mr. Unpredictable", Omar mockingly imitates Opal when the two receive another taunting from the eponymous villain via a black-and-white, 3D movie, since Omar wants to use a hundreds chart to find a pattern in how Mr. Unpredictable commits his crimes while Opal keeps mistakenly believing she's found the pattern without thinking things through. She ends up being completely oblivious to his mockery, much to his chagrin.
--->Omar: Hundreds chart, or will you just say, "I don't need it, I've already solved the case!"\
Opal: The second one.
* Radio/OurMissBrooks: Miss Brooks has learned to expect Mr. Conklin's typical DelayedReaction when he is surprised by anything angering or distasteful. A couple of times, she mimics his exclamation and expression when it finally comes along. A good example is in the episode "Cure That Habit". On radio episodes, being an audio medium, Miss Brooks sometimes just copies the inevitable shout.
* Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration: In the episode "Brothers", has Data tell himself that he is not less perfect than his evil "brother" Lore, only for Lore to repeat mockingly, "I am not less perfect than Lore!", leading to their creator, Dr. Soong, telling them both to be quiet.
* In Series/Supernatural, Dean sarcastically imitates a crying baby he's holding.
-->Baby: [crying]\
Dean: [imitates crying sarcastically]
* Series/TheToyCastle: In "Copy Cat", the Clown is annoyed at the Rag Doll for interrupting a game, so he decides to copy her every move to get rid of her. This includes dancing, making faces, stomping feet, until the Rag Doll leaves crying. The Goblin watches from the side the whole time, and in a rare act of empathy, decides to copy the Clown right back to show him how the Rag Doll feels. After some back and forth, the Clown begs for the Goblin to stop and apologizes to the Rag Doll.
* Series/Victorious: Jade will often mock Tori by imitating her, always giving her a stereotypical SouthernBelle accent. Tori will typically respond by insisting she doesn't sound like that. Tori does eventually do this back to her, though Jade is out of earshot when this happens.
* Abounds in Series/WhoseLineIsItAnyway, especially aimed at Drew. The GagReel includes clips of Ryan mocking the director's gestures as he's giving Drew stage directions. One clip has the director catching Ryan and reversing the mockery only for Ryan to make a certain hand gesture which the director imitates before he catches what he's doing and immediately quits, much to everyone's amusement.

* Music/Eminem's gift for imitating voices and ear for imitating genres means this is one of the signature skills in his toolbox.
** Eminem frequently copies the flow and voice of other rappers, both for AffectionateParody and for TheDissTrack. While a trick he uses throughout his career (particularly when ribbing his frequent rival Music/Canibus, whose highly technical wordy style and high-pitched gravelly voice is easy for him to make fun of), this reached its high point with "Kamikaze", a whole album full of him mocking TrapMusic flows with WordSaladLyrics, tortured voices and incoherent adlibs.
*** This even extends outside of hip-hop genres. In "I Remember (Dedication to Whitey Ford)", a diss track aimed at Everlast, Eminem spends most of the song singing in a droning, slightly off-key style over a grunge rock production to make fun of Everlast abandoning HipHop for straight rock. The result is that it's the closest thing to a pure rock song in the entire Eminem discography.
---->I can sing better than you and I don't fuckin' sing!
*** In "Killshot", he briefly imitates the sneering delivery of Music/MachineGunKelly, as well as his vocal adlibs.
** Eminem constantly jumps into the voices of other characters in his songs, usually to represent MoralGuardians complaining about his music.
*** In "The Real Slim Shady", he raps in an effeminate voice as a couple of feminists complaining about Slim Shady's coarseness, but agreeing he's 'so cute, though'.
*** In "Rap God" he mocks rival rappers in a stereotypical dumb-guy voice - "I don't know how to make songs like that! I don't know what words to use!" - and whiny genre purists - "It's not hip-hop, it's pop!".
*** "Chloraseptic (Remix)" involves him voicing his critics who blast his Horrorcore-influenced VulgarHumor style for being outdated -- "Rap mature! Why can't you be like Music/Macklemore? Why you always gotta smack a whore?" -- while also yelling at him for changing his style to fit the times -- "What's with all the conscious rap?".
* Music/HenryRollins' hatred of techno music has been fodder for EDM producers. One example includes "Rave Review" by [=SKisM=], which uses his imitation of techno as an actual synth.

* Wrestling/DGenerationX was one of the most known and successful stables on the Wrestling/WWE history, being a funny group with hilarious promos. One of the most remembered is when Wrestling/TripleH and Wrestling/ShawnMichaels impersonated none less than Vince McMahon and his son Shane. Another (remembered far less fondly due to ValuesDissonance) is their impersonation of Wrestling/TheNationOfDomination, complete with blackface... And about Michaels, also made a hilarious imitation of Wrestling/HulkHogan as part of their feud road to Wrestling/Summerslam 2005.
* Wrestling/ECW gave liberties to Steve Austin to be himself and forge a character,To be noted: his general attitude and the "That's the bottom line" were born in ECW before he went to WWE as "Stone Cold", which he did in part thanks to his poor (with a purpose) imitations of Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan, having a short time in Wrestling/WCW and mocking them.

* Franchise/TheMuppets:
** Series/TheMuppetShow:
*** In Jean Stapleton's episode, Beaker is particularly moody during the Muppet Labs segment, and he briefly mocks Bunsen in meeps.
---->Bunsen: Isn't that right, Beaker?\
Beaker: [mimicking his tone in a mocking way] Me-me-me me-me? Meep.
*** The episode featuring Creator/ZeroMostel has Sam the Eagle, an InUniverse MoralGuardian, going to Zero's dressing room to decry the production as "distastefully lacking in culture." Zero pretends to agree with Sam, but when the eagle turns away, he mocks his uptight words and behavior with exaggerated facial expressions and gestures (and possible use of weapons!), only to stop whenever Sam looks back at him.
** In one episode of Series/2015 (2015), Kermit says "It's time to work", which the Swedish Chef mockingly repeats. Kermit demands to know who said that (even though he was looking right at Chef when he did it) as everyone laughs; Chef plays innocent and asks who did it.
* In the Series/FraggleRockBackToTheRock episode "Fraggle Up", when Gobo starts talking about how Uncle Travelling Matt discovered radishes, Red mutters "Oh boy, here comes the story." As Gobo launches into this epic tale, Red exaggeratedly mimics his expressions and gestures, because she's heard it so many times she knows exactly how he tells it.

* In Theatre/TheBarberOfSeville, Bartolo catches Figaro doing this to him when he comes to Bartolo's house to shave him; Figaro tries to pass it off as "son debolezze" ("a moment of weakness"). Fortunately for Figaro, Bartolo has other things on his mind at that moment.
* In Theatre/TheMagicFlute, as Papageno and Pamina are searching for Tamino, they repeatedly sing "...nur geschwinde, nur geschwinde, nur geschwinde" ("quickly, quickly, quickly"). At that moment, the villainous Monostatos and his troop of slaves arrive to capture them, and Monostatos mockingly sings "...nur geschwinde, nur geschwinde, nur geschwinde!" back at them.
* In Theatre/WestSideStory, a comedic song halfway through the play involves the Jets taking turns to mock the resident DirtyCop by mimicking him.

--> Anton: What's the point of havin' bootlickers if they're not passionate in boots or lickin'?\
Hank: Maybe the flavour isn't great?\
Anton: [=mAyBe tHe fLaVoUr iSn'T gReAt=]... I oughta turn you into boots and see what flavour comes out eh?
* VideoGame/Control: A rather deadpan example happens in the game's Foundation DLC, where Jesse gets into an argument with the Board -- a vaguely benevolent but ominous cosmic entity that speaks in hard-to-parse multiple-choice lines -- over the Board declining access to a new paranatural ability that she needs.
-->Jesse: I don't like you deciding what I can slash can't have.
* In VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublicIITheSithLords, recurring companion and KillerRobot, HK-47, admits upfront that he holds a rather dim view of the other companions from the first game, calling them "a collection of tortured individuals that seemed unable to confront their basic personality conflicts." For good measure, he then does less-than-flattering impersonations of both Carth and Tsundere Bastila:
-->HK-47: Mockery: "Oh, Master, I do not trust you! I cannot trust you, or anyone else ever again!" Mockery: "Oh, Master, I love you but I hate everything you stand for, but I think we should go press our slimy, mucus-covered lips together in the cargo hold!"
* In the first VideoGame/TimeCrisis, once you confront Wild Dog, he mockingly imitates what Rachel would probably say -- while he's holding a gun to her head.
-->Wild Dog: Oh, you're finally here to save me!

* VisualNovel/FateStayNight: Archer normally uses his ability to copy other heroes' weapons as his way to respect their original users. If the original user is a self-aggrandizing scumbag (like, say, Gilgamesh), however, he'll go out of his way to copy their weapons to mock them.

* Lenny and the Website/JollyRogerTelephoneCompany are chat-bot programs designed to waste the time of telemarketers and other unwanted callers by using recordings that activate when silence is detected to trick the into thinking they're talking with a real response. Sometimes if the callers get annoyed enough they'll descend into this to try to upset the bots into hanging up, but, of course, they're bots and can't be upset.
* The "Mocking WesternAnimation/Squarepants" meme takes this form, using a still from "Little Yellow Book" where Spongebob acts like a chicken, accompanied by repeating someone else's statement in alternating case as a visual text approximation of a SimpletonVoice.[=ThE mOcKiNg SpOnGeBoB mEmE tAkEs ThIs FoRm...=]

* WebVideo/DavidNear: Jason the Toymaker mimics his victim's crying to mock them. He repeats their (supposed) former sentiments in a childlike tone only to yell "LIAR!" Later, he suddenly breaks into a bawl that's louder than that of the child's sobbing to shut them up.
--> Jason: "Oh Daddy, I want a toy, I want a little teddy bear!" (fake crying) LIAR!!!
* WebVideo/DragonBallZAbridged:
** It's done thrice in Episode 60 Part 1.

---->Piccolo: "Oh, I've made a terrible mistake!" That's you.
*** And then Krillin, moments later, when Goku is asking to fix said mistake.
---->Krillin: "Krillin, I'm serious! I'm gonna use it on me this time!" That's you.
** In an earlier episode, Cell copies Trunks' new transformation to show that it's not as impressive as Trunks thinks it is, leading to this exchange.
--->Cell: Look at me. I'm Trunks. Please love me, Daaaaad. [ends imitating] See? Anyone can do it.\
Trunks: That's a terrible impression.\
Android 16: But not inaccurate!

Darwin: Huh, well, at least I'm not like this! [with a deep voice and acting in a goofy manner] Duh! Hey, I'm Gumball! Duh! I'm too busy to look where I'm going, 'cause I'm in love with Penny or something!
