* From Lore Sjoberg's Online ''Book of Ratings'' written in 1998:
-->"I'll limit myself to observing that with the increasing popularity of vampires, we're on the verge of the unicorn syndrome all over again. If it hasn't happened already, in a few months look for airbrushed posters of sad vampires in Wal-Marts everywhere, and in a decade look for female college students saying to each other 'Were you into vampires when you were nine? Me too! We were such dorks!'"
:... [[Literature/TheTwilightSaga nailed it]] (well, aside from being about ten years off), didn't he?
* In 2012, Buzzfeed made an article called ''[[https://www.buzzfeed.com/abrams/occupy-emerald-city?utm_term=.lyz41JA2W#.ovz3Ke2Aw Occupy Emerald City]]'', in which the flavor text read "The Wizard says the protestors are high on poppy." Five years later, there was a poppy addict in ''Series/EmeraldCity'', Mistress West, played by Creator/AnaUlaru, a self-admitted minor [[UsefulNotes/{{Anarchism}} anarchist]].
* In 2011, ''Roleplay/DarwinsSoldiers'' introduced a character named [[https://darwinssoldiers.fandom.com/wiki/ROSS ROSS]], a crime-solving vigilante AI who devoted its time to defeating and exposing internet-based criminals. Four years later in the real world, IBM released [[https://www.forbes.com/sites/danielfisher/2017/02/24/college-students-use-ai-to-build-legal-research-firm/?sh=4754a9e924d9 ROSS]], the first artificially-intelligent digital lawyer. Looks like all that crime-fighting paid off!
* Website/{{Cracked}}:
** This [[http://www.cracked.com/article_17209_insane-sports-stories-that-will-make-you-believe-in-curses.html article where the first item]] declared that the UsefulNotes/SanFrancisco Giants have a curse to never win the World Series. Oops.[[note]]For non-Americans: they won the World Series in the year after the article was, 2010, and then in 2012 and 2014.[[/note]]
** Another article "[[http://www.cracked.com/article_15291_the-2007-lineup-35-soon-to-be-cancelled-shows.html The 2007 Lineup: 35 Soon to Be Canceled Shows]]" is this. Although most of the shows did get canceled soon after they premiered (and the joke is that ''every'' show of the 2007 season is represented), a few didn't, such as (in order of duration) ''Series/PushingDaisies'' (two seasons and critical acclaim), ''Series/{{Chuck}}'' (which made it to five seasons), ''Series/TheSingingBee'' (also five - one season on NBC, four on CMT), ''Literature/GossipGirl'' (six), ''Series/PrivatePractice'' (also six) and most notably ''Series/TheBigBangTheory'' (a whopping ''twelve''). A hilarious thing was they listed ''Series/{{Heroes}}: Origins'', which never aired because of the Writer's Strike.
** One entry for the Photoplasty contest [[http://www.cracked.com/photoplasty_31_15-ways-they-could-get-people-to-actually-watch-tv-again/ 15 Ways They Could Get People to Actually Watch TV Again]] was a new season of ''Series/ArrestedDevelopment''. [[http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/news/a343448/arrested-development-new-episodes-movie-confirmed.html A few years later...]]
** [[http://www.cracked.com/photoplasty_85_if-video-games-were-realistic_p27#25 This]] entry in a Cracked photoshop contest became hilarious after ''VideoGame/RockBand 3'' introduced pro mode, which can be used with a 108-button guitar controller.
** Cracked.com had [[http://www.cracked.com/photoplasty_33_what-campaign-ads-would-look-like-if-voting-age-was-6_p23/#19 a contest]] for "What campaign ads would look like if they were targeted to six-year-olds," written before the '08 election. Number 8 is an ad for Obama that parodies Sesame Street, and number 19 says "He'll bring back Mittens to life!" This was before his campaign linked themselves to Sesame Street and before Mitt Romney, "Mittens," was running for president!
** An article about [[http://www.cracked.com/article_17674_how-to-make-jokeless-comedy-studying-epic-movie-guys.html Seltzer & Friedberg]] has the writer write a hypothetical trailer about a vampire movie spoof. Then along comes ''Film/VampiresSuck''...
** During the huge success of ''Film/{{The Avengers|2012}}'', they published a humorous vignette called "[[http://www.cracked.com/blog/why-it-sucks-to-be-ant-man-forgotten-avenger/ Why It Sucks to Be Ant-Man]]", which depicted ComicBook/AntMan, ComicBook/TheWasp, and ComicBook/TheFalcon as a trio of desperate nobodies who weren't considered good enough to be included in the [[Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse MCU]]. Since then, Falcon has debuted as a major character in ''Film/CaptainAmericaTheWinterSoldier'' and joined the Avengers in subsequent movies, while Ant-Man got [[Film/AntMan1 his own movie]] and a sequel called ''Ant-Man and The Wasp''.
*** Though this could be a bit of a case of HarsherInHindsight, since the movie is about [[LegacyCharacter Scott Lang, the second Ant-Man]], not Hank Pym, the Ant-Man who was mocked in the article; and in the movie his wife Janet van Dyne died [[spoiler:(presumably)]] and his daughter betrayed him.
*** Adding salt to the wound, the next Avengers movie was ''Film/AvengersAgeOfUltron'', which managed to take Pym's most notable recurring villain and change his backstory until it had nothing to do with him.
** In early 2015, they ran an article called "[[http://www.cracked.com/quick-fixes/5-famous-movies-that-are-getting-unspeakably-bad-sequels/ 5 Famous Movies That Are Getting Unspeakably Bad Sequels]]," and one of the movies highlighted was ''Film/{{Creed|2015}}''. The writer proceeded to mock both Creator/MichaelBJordan and Creator/SylvesterStallone, and ultimately concluded that Adonis Creed sounded like an unlikable and unsympathetic character. ''Creed'' ended up opening to massive critical acclaim, with a good deal of the reviews praising Adonis as a complex and relatable protagonist, and Stallone ended up getting an Oscar nomination for his work.
** In a 2011 article, [[http://www.cracked.com/article_19146_8-absurd-jokes-that-predicted-real-life-events_p2.html 8 Absurd Jokes That Predicted Real Life Events]], they discussed the ''Series/LaughIn'' joke about President UsefulNotes/RonaldReagan, before ending with: "So, has anyone done a wacky "Donald Trump as president" sketch yet? Laugh all you want, it may seem strangely prescient in, say, 2017."
** On the list [[https://www.cracked.com/photoplasty_2274_brace-yourself-these-26-trends-are-definitely-coming 26 Horrifying Things We'll See If Current Trends Continue]], Entry #17 shows the Creator/WarnerBros Pictures logo with the byline "A Walt Creator/{{Disney}} Company". In 2016, Disney entered negotiations to acquire [=TimeWarner=] before AT&T bought the latter, though Disney would soon acquire the majority of [[Creator/TwentiethCenturyStudios 21st Century Fox]], instead.
* When ''Literature/TheLiamSmithShow'' [[FlashForward flashed forward]] to New Years Eve 2999, Dick Clark promoted {{Creator/UPN}}: "For One Thousand Years, the Solar System's Number One Network."
* [[http://www.strum.co.uk/webbery/purpose.htm What is the Internet for?]] That question was [[TheInternetIsForPorn answered]] two years after that essay was published.
* Website/TheAgonyBooth review of ''Dean Koontz's Mr. Murder'', written in 2002:
--> You know you're in for some quality entertainment when [[Creator/ThomasHadenChurch the guy who played "Lowell"]] on the sitcom ''Series/{{Wings}}'' is supposed to be [[Film/SpiderMan3 the heavy]].
* In the ''VideoGame/MoshiMonsters'' [[Music/LadyGaga Lady]] [[NoCelebritiesWereHarmed Goo Goo]] song "The Moshi Dance" one of the lines is "[[ScrewedByTheLawyers Lady Goo Goo's here to stay!]]"
* On April Fools' of 2011, Boubouille of ''VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft'' news site MMO-Champion posted [[http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/878945-World-of-Warcraft-5.0-Panda-Mania! this joke article]] about the upcoming expansion pack being centered around the Pandaren race and introducing them as playable for both factions. Well... The next expansion is centered around the Pandaren race and introduces them as playable for both factions. Made even better when you know that the moderation team speculated and planned a few elaborate satirical jokes which were then denied for risk of causing bad press by forumgoers taking it seriously. The pandaren joke on the other hand was deemed obvious and cringeworthy enough for everyone to understand it was just a joke. Which they did. Since it was. At the time.
* In March 2010, in the "general" forums of a fansite about import/European cars, someone posted a FanFic entitled... ''Two Broke Girls'', though admittedly the motives were not clear (WordOfGod is not forthcoming, but speculation is it was a TakeThat at the economy of the time). Made even more hilarious by the fact that a year later the show ''Series/TwoBrokeGirls'' (stylised as 2 BROKE GIRL$) launched, airing on Creator/{{CBS}}, and as of 2012, Creator/Channel4 in the United Kingdom.
* In 2008, Website/SomethingAwful posted a front-page article which parodied a typical anime show's talk page at Website/TheOtherWiki. In particular, one "user" chided the other participants for thinking that the in-show credits were an acceptable source, saying that credits must come from Website/IMDb or somewhere similar. As of 2012, the actual credits in a film, TV show or video game are no longer considered acceptable sources for Wikipedia articles.
* This [[http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=98087 article and discussion]] [[http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showpost.php?p=1493506&postcount=4 here]] seem hilarious considering ''Series/TheOnlyWayIsEssex'' has come on air, as of 2009.
* ''Website/TheOnion'' has had its fair share. For example:
** "[[http://www.theonion.com/articles/fuck-everything-were-doing-five-blades,11056/ Fuck Everything, We're Doing Five Blades]]". The Gillette Fusion would be released 2 years later in 2006.
** "[[http://www.theonion.com/articles/lady-gaga-kidnaps-commissioner-gordon,17789/ Lady Gaga Kidnaps Comissioner Gordon]]". In ''ComicBook/{{Batman}} Incorporated: Leviathan Strikes!'' released in 2011, Batgirl infiltrates a school that brainwashes teenage girls into assassins run by Expys of {{Music/Madonna}}, {{Music/Rihanna}}, Music/KatyPerry...and Music/LadyGaga.
** The April 8, 1998 issue had the headline: "Cubs Eliminated From Playoff Contention." The Cubs went on to make the playoffs that year.
** "[[http://www.theonion.com/articles/michael-moore-honored-with-new-ben-jerrys-flavor,1292/ Michael Moore Honored With New Ben & Jerry's Flavor]]" mocks Ben & Jerry's liberal leanings by saying they have invented a new flavor named after Creator/MichaelMoore called "The Waffle Truth", which had vanilla ice cream with chocolate-covered waffle cone pieces. Two years later, Ben & Jerry's came out with a new flavor named for liberal (faux-conservative) icon Creator/StephenColbert called "Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream", which has....vanilla ice cream with chocolate-covered waffle cone pieces.
** "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOgj2etJs3Y Miley Cyrus will be depleted by 2013]]", and oh how wrong they were... [[BileFascination if for the wrong reasons]].
** "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TrPwOrf4sM Historic 'Blockbuster' Store Offers Glimpse Of How Movies Were Rented In The Past]]" is about the 'Blockbuster Video Museum' in Michigan that "aims to transport visitors to a time before the Internet." Like a version of Colonial Williamsburg, the sketch has actors playing clerks and customers who describe how the rental process works. Tour groups watch the performance, stunned. Five years later, the skit became several thousand times funnier when it was announced that Blockbuster's physical stores were shutting down due to the inability to compete with the advent of digital downloads on Netflix and the Internet in general.
** "[[https://www.theonion.com/admit-it-you-people-want-to-see-how-far-this-goes-don-1819584988 Admit It: You People Want To See How Far This Goes, Don’t You?]]" A fake opinion piece by Donald Trump about his 2016 presidential campaign.
* Famous internet troll Chad Warden made an attack on the Nintendo Wii for using a, pardon the language, "dildo," for a controller, it all becomes hilarious when Sony made the [=PlayStation=] Move and now have dildo controllers of their own.
* In the 2007 internet game ''Bartender: The Right Mix'', you can occasionally explode by shaking the drink too much. You can even cause an explosion if you only add lemons. Exploding lemons are referenced once again, [[VideoGame/Portal2 in another game.]]
* Duckyworth reviews:
** In [[http://duckyworth.deviantart.com/journal/DT-The-Spongebob-Squarepants-Movie-2004-356178887 Duckyworth's review]] of ''WesternAnimation/TheSpongeBobSquarePantsMovie'', he ends the review by believing the second film will be -- and deserves to be -- a BoxOfficeBomb to "wake the world up to how [[EmphasizeEverything HORRIBLY WRITTEN]] the new seasons are". Come [[http://duckyworth.deviantart.com/journal/DT-Spongebob-Movie-2-Sponge-out-of-Water-2015-526496340 the review to]] [[WesternAnimation/TheSpongebobMovieSpongeOutOfWater the second film,]] where he ends up liking the film, and ends it by saying that [[GrowingTheBeard "[=SpongeBob=] has FINALLY leaped out of the blood coated waters of the Styx, and has finally climbed back onto the staircase to a land of promise."]]
** In the ''WesternAnimation/EightCrazyNights'' [[http://duckyworth.deviantart.com/journal/DT-Eight-Crazy-Nights-2002-Part-2-497136002 review,]] he calls the film out ([[DudeNotFunny among]] [[GrossoutShow other]] things) for making a jab against homosexuals [[spoiler: when Davey is arrested for breaking into the mall]], claiming that those sort of jokes are what holding gay marriage legalization back. In June 2015, America would actually legalize gay marriage.
** In [[http://duckyworth.deviantart.com/journal/Duckyworth-s-Thoughts-Equestria-Girls-2013-440733695 the review of]] ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirls'', he constantly calls his personal [[TheScrappy scrappy]] of the film, Sunset Shimmer, 'Slutset Sh***er'. In ''[[WebVideo/UltraFastPony UFP The Movie: The Moviening]]'', just about everyone, including Sunset herself, accidentally mispronounces her name as 'Sunsh** Sh***er'.
** The ''WesternAnimation/LegendOfTheGuardiansTheOwlsOfGaHoole'' [[http://duckyworth.deviantart.com/journal/DT-LOTG-Owls-of-Ga-Hoole-2010-REVISITED-396728950 re-review]], consisting of Duckyworth saying "TheyChangedItNowItSucks" for all of the changes the film made to the first 3 books, and citing that Kathryn Lasky should've handled the adaption becomes a lot more funny when you realize that Lasky originally was going to write the screenplay before being replaced by Zac Snyder.
** At the beginning of the ''WesternAnimation/SongOfTheSea'' [[http://duckyworth.deviantart.com/journal/Duckyworth-s-Thoughts-Song-of-the-Sea-2014-583605323 review,]] while lamenting about many modern animated films succumbing to the AnimationAgeGhetto (and those who find the ghetto acceptable), and praising those who avoid the ghetto, he feels that ''Norm of the North'' is going to suck as he sees from from the trailer. When the film came out in North America, it ended up getting a rare zero percent from Rotten Tomatoes out of 36 reviews. For a double whammy, the critic consensus for the film says that it should only be shown "in case of parental emergency"... the opposite on what Duckyworth stated, which was to not show the kids those sort of films.
** In the review for ''WesternAnimation/ATrollInCentralPark'', he comments on the flowers Stanley the troll produces and notes that, while intended to be cute, they just end up looking creepy. Of note is of a flower that Stanley accidentally produces, and in turn, hides from the troll. Duckyworth describes it as a 'rather disturbing looking flower with an overly happy expression'. This description accurately describes Flowey from ''VideoGame/{{Undertale}}'', a video game Ducky would end up loving.
** At the end of his review for the film version of ''WesternAnimation/TheLorax2012'' after tearing the film a new one for [[TheyChangedItNowItSucks not following the original book and its themes,]] he says that 'if Dr. Seuss had written his book as it plays out in this movie, it would have long been lost into the dustbins of history, which where this wrong-headed movie is very likely headed...' In December 2016, [[https://www.youtube.com/user/MrMrMANGOHEAD MrMrMangoHead]] gave the film quite the revival with a MemeticMutation version of 'Let It Grow' on par with [[Series/LazyTown We Are Number One]], leading to a series of snowclones similar to the latter.
* A website called [=HeadlineSmasher=], which is exactly that it mashes up headlines of news articles into nonsense, once made the headline, [[http://www.headlinesmasher.com/headlines/641 "Nintendo Steps Into Porn Biz,"]] and then... [[http://www.gamnesia.com/news/nintendo-and-playboy-team-up-to-promote-bayonetta-2 they teamed up with playboy]] to promote ''VideoGame/Bayonetta2''.
* In 2012, AfterEllen posted an article titled "Music/MileyCyrus is a better lesbian than you". In 2015, Miley revealed that she actually had been in relationships with women.
* An article on ''Random-ness Wikia'' entitled [[http://random-ness.wikia.com/wiki/How_To_Make_Good_TV_Shows_Bad "How to Make Good TV Shows Bad"]] has a section for ''VideoGame/PriPara'', which was added in the summer of 2016. One part of the section says that one way to make the episode "Youthful Jump In! Snap In!" worse was to replace the scene where Dorothy scares Jururu by imitating a video game she brought with her to her getting kicked out of Elmo's Eatery by a man named Ray Snails for using a portable DVD player that showed ''WesternAnimation/MickeyMouseClubhouse''. Five months later, the movie ''WesternAnimation/{{Sing}}'' gets released, and one of the characters in the film is a snail named Ray.
* ''Blog/ThingsMrWelchIsNoLongerAllowedToDoInAnRPG'' has a rule that states Mr Welch is prohibited from using several types of MixAndMatchWeapon, including shotgunchucks (958. No matter how practical, I can't have shotgunchucks). Then ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'' comes up with a character using shotgunchucks.
* In May 2014, Franchise/TheMuppets' fansite [=ToughPigs=] reviewed every episode of ''Series/TheJimHensonHour'' for its 25th aniversary. The reviewers particularly liked the Bill Prady-scripted ''Miss Piggy's Hollywood'', and wondered why Prady was wasting his time on ''Series/TheBigBangTheory'' when he could be writing Piggy getting into feuds with celebrities. A year and a half later, [[Series/TheMuppets2015 that's exactly what he was doing]].
* A running joke on ''Anime/PokemonTheSeries'' fansite Pokemopolis is that Togepi is evil. An episode of the anime years later focuses on "The Worst Togepi Ever!" From their guide to the episode: ''"Look I don't mean to sound like a broken record here but I TOLD YOU I FUCKING [[WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons TOLD YOU ALL THESE THINGS ARE EVIL! EVIL! EVVIIIILLLLLLLL!!!!]]"''
* An AV Club article about a ''Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse'' movie marathon held for ''Film/AvengersAgeOfUltron'' had [[https://film.avclub.com/1811318150 one user]] comment that they would like to see a movie where superheroes needed to rescue the world from endless comic book movies. That did happen three years after the article was published with the release of ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitansGoToTheMovies'', where the climax reveals that [[spoiler: Slade disguised himself as a Hollywood filmmaker named Jade Wilson, and he's been giving all the DC superheroes movies as an evil plot to mind control the world, leading Robin to try to stop his plan]].
* [[https://animesuperhero.com/forums/threads/would-band-geeks-make-a-great-movie.5205781/ This thread]] on [=AnimeSuperhero=] has a fan of ''WesternAnimation/SpongeBobSquarePants'' sharing their ideas for a movie that's a LiveActionAdaptation of the episode [[Recap/SpongebobSquarepantsS2E15TheSecretBoxBandGeeks "Band Geeks"]], but with normal humans instead of the [=SpongeBob=] characters. One part mentions that the film's version of the Sweet Victory scene would take place at the Super Bowl. In 2018, after Stephen Hillenberg passed away, [[https://www.change.org/p/nfl-have-sweet-victory-performed-at-the-super-bowl someone made a petition for]] Music/Maroon5 to sing "Sweet Victory" during the halftime show that gained a million signatures. While the Super Bowl only showed the scene that occurred before the song to introduce Travis Scott, [[https://www.foxsports.com/southwest/story/watch-dallas-stars-give-fans-the-sweet-victory-spongebob-halftime-show-we-all-deserve-020419 the full song was played during a Dallas Stars halftime show that occurred on the same day as the 2019 Super Bowl]].
* Website/TVTropes:
** The page image caption of HalfDressedCartoonAnimal is "Well, at least there's a complete outfit between them." Which just so happens to be a plot point to "[[Recap/MickeyMouseS1E1NoService No Service]]".
** FixFic, when talking about the Naruto fix fics, it said "When was Hinata this bold?" Well, not factoring in [[spoiler:her big confession scene]], there ''was'' that Alternate Universe Hinata...
** The page EveryoneIsSatanInHell used, as an example, the name "Hikaru", meaning light, being accused of standing in for "[[ArchangelLucifer Lucifer]]", light-bringer. Then VideoGame/ShinMegamiTenseiIV came out, where [[spoiler:a character named Hikaru is revealed in the Chaos ending to be Lucifer, turning "Hikaru" into a BilingualBonus LouisCypher]].
** TV Tropes has the JustForFun.TheShipYard page, which is a collaborative effort to come up with incredibly punny naval-themed terminology for various shipping behaviors. Then comes ''VideoGame/KanColle'', its cast of personified [[UsefulNotes/KatanasOfTheRisingSun IJN battleships]], and the fans who ship these "ship daughters", which some describe as "literal shipping".
** That last paragraph in the ''Anime/PanzerWorldGalient'' article where similar-to-Galient series are mentioned has become hilarious in hindsight because of ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsBX''. ''Anime/AuraBattlerDunbine'' and Galient now are in the same game.
** On [[EarlyInstallmentWeirdness/TabletopGames Early Installment Weirdness' Tabletop Games page]], the entry for ''TabletopGame/BattleTech'' starts with "(which was originally called ''[=BattleDroids=]'', but [[Creator/GeorgeLucas someone else]] owns [[DisneyOwnsThisTrope 'droids']])". Come 2012...
** By extension, any other page where something about ''Franchise/StarWars'' is potholed to DisneyOwnsThisTrope.
** The trope about works of fiction tending to be about 20 years behind the times was originally launched with the title of "Still the Eighties"; this was changed to TwoDecadesBehind around 2010 or so under the assumption that modern examples would reference TheNineties instead. But considering the insane amounts of '80s nostalgia that dominate pop culture to this day, one can argue that the name never needed to be changed at all.
** One of ''Website/{{Cracked}}'' Photolaspty entries features Website/TVTropes crossed with ''Platform/{{Youtube}}'', creating Tropetube. TV Tropes now has a video feature, even showcasing mini descriptions, similar to the photo entry.
* Website/PlatypusComix
** "[[http://www.platypuscomix.net/onlyme/ootwalkthrough.html My Ocarina of Time Walkthrough]]" claims that beating Film/TheRunningMan in a race will grant the player a werewolf's curse. Five years later, ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTwilightPrincess'' starred a Link who could turn into a wolf.
** Reading Peter write, "[[http://www.platypuscomix.net/kidzone/gack.html Spidey is red-hot and Batman is red-not. But stuff happens.]]", evidently unable to foresee ''Film/TheDarkKnightTrilogy'' rebuilding ComicBook/{{Batman}}'s fame, and ''Film/SpiderMan3'' causing ComicBook/SpiderMan to lose his.
** In 2004, Peter found a cartoon on Telefutura starring a homely schoolgirl named "Betty." After watching an episode, he published [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/hollywood/bettytoons.html a review]] online, titled "The most obscure cartoon I can possibly review." Two years later, the character of [[Series/YoSoyBettyLaFea Betty La Fea]] was formally introduced to America with the successful sitcom, ''Series/UglyBetty'', prompting Peter to retitle the article (now called "Ugly Betty: The Cartoon Series") and rewrite the opening and concluding paragraphs.
** It feels jarring now to read [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/bored/tvguideads13.html this volume]] of "The Ancient Lost Art of ''TV Guide'' Advertising" and remember a short time when Peter would talk about ''Series/FreeSpirit1989'' without batting an eyelash, never mind [[SugarWiki/GushingAboutCharactersYouLike gushing about Winnie Goodwin]] or desiring to [[Webcomic/FreeSpirit2014 write better stories for her]].
** The "[[http://platypuscomix.net/top182.gif Pony-Free Since 2001]]" banner took on some irony after a self-proclaimed Pegasister became one of the most frequent posters on the Platypus Comix forum.
** "[[http://www.platypuscomix.net/kidzone/comingtodvdnever.html Why you may never see some of your favorite childhood shows on DVD]]" has an offhand comment that NBC took so long to release ''Series/SaturdayNightLive'' season one on DVD, that "...they'll never get to [[AudienceAlienatingEra the seasons nobody cares about]]." This took on a new meaning after NBC decided to stop releasing ''SNL'' complete season DVD boxsets after season five, the last one to include any of the Not Ready For Primetime Players as regular cast members.
** "The Ancient Lost Art of ''TV Guide'' Advertising" Vol. 7, "[[http://www.platypuscomix.net/bored/tvguideads7.html The Bicentennial]]", shares [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/bored/bicentennial24.JPG a cover]] promoting the ''Series/WonderWoman'' TV show. Underneath, Peter laments that ComicBook/WonderWoman apparently doesn't seem relatable enough for her own theatrical movie, with the rejection of a Creator/JossWhedon-penned screenplay prompting him to declare, "if Joss can't make it work, no one can." Eventually, Allan Heinberg and Creator/PattyJenkins would respectively pen and direct [[Film/WonderWoman2017 Wonder Woman's first big-screen solo movie]], and turn it into the first critical darling among the Franchise/DCExtendedUniverse's films. This statement might have also become HarsherInHindsight during the year of that movie's premiere, due to the scathing receptions of Joss' leaked ''Wonder Woman'' script, and the first released DC film with him as a credited screenwriter, ''Film/JusticeLeague2017''; the latter would even receive a recut four years later, [[Film/ZackSnydersJusticeLeague either replacing or deleting all of his material]].
* [[http://replay.web.archive.org/20091022035608/http://geocities.com/paladin_s98/disturbing.html This page on a wrestling website]] lists various disturbing search terms that have lead people to pages on that site. One of them is "[[Film/BrokebackMountain Cowboys Humping]]".
* In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_mIQaTG4BE Joe Goes To Blizzon,]] Joe Hansen asks a man if they pretend to be a girl while going online, switching to a woman's voice while doing so. Years later, Joe came out as trans.
* In 2008, BP sent an angry email to the activist organization known as The Yes Men, complaining about usage of their trademarks in a half-finished parody website run by the group. In their [[http://theyesmen.org/agribusiness/beyondpetrol/ response]], the Yes Men argued that "BP does every bit as much damage to this planet as does Exxon" and deserved a fully realized parody site. [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deepwater_Horizon_oil_spill Two years later...]]
* The existence of the meme Pedobear, in 2012 the BBC stated that the charity mascot of "Children In Need", Pudsey, was no longer allowed to be alone with children and instead of hugging them had to either wave at them or shake their hands. Naturally, the two bears had been crossed over [[http://gossip-girl-forum.3151444.n2.nabble.com/file/n4033299/514px-Pedobearinneedofchildren.jpg before]].
* The Princeton Review, a test-preparation service company, has long made use of a naive straw-man character in its lessons, who demonstrates what ''not'' to do on standardized tests by always choosing the multiple-choice option that only ''looks'' correct upon superficial reading. In American courses, this gullible patsy is named "Joe Bloggs", a surname that pre-dates the World Wide Web and the rise of blogging: a phenomenon which, if read superficially by the naive, can give people a ''very'' misguided notion of what's factual.
* In 2008, someone posted [[http://www.flickr.com/photos/31541888@N08/2994404550/ this picture]] on Website/{{Flickr}}

Or, 'I love Uber, but I wish it would deliver me food?' Or 'What if Facebook was [=YouTube=]?'" All three of those things have since become true.
