* Maggie Nelson is an awesome ParentalSubstitute. None of the boys stay with her for long because they are either adopted or given to other foster families, but she remains a good parent to Roger.
** When they find out his father ceded all custody rights, Maggie looks crushed and gives Roger a CooldownHug. She tells Knox what happened, who comes and comforts Roger as well, explaining he understands how he feels, because he had to raise all his siblings by himself.
* Al the Boss Angel (Christopher Lloyd) gets everybody to sing the classic, "Take me Out to the Ball Game".
* Maggie Nelson give a really good WhatTheHellHero speech near the end of the film.
--> '''Maggie''': Um, excuse me. I'd like to say something on behalf of George Knox.
--> '''Hank Murphy''': What's your name? What's your business here?
--> '''Maggie''': My name is Maggie Nelson. I take care of foster kids. One of these boys is the child who can see angels. He could stand up right now and tell you what's going on and I'd know you'd just laugh at him. But, when a professional football player drops to one knee to thank God for making a touchdown, nobody laughs at that. Or when a pitcher crosses himself before going to the mound, no one laughs at that either. It's like you're saying it's okay to believe in God, but it's not okay to believe in angels. Now, I thought that they were on the same team.
--> '''Hank Murphy''': Is it your belief, ma'am, that angels play baseball?
--> '''Maggie''': Since the All-Star break, yes. We all need someone to believe in. Every child I have ever looked after has someone: an angel. You've got to have faith. You've got to believe. You have to look inside yourself. The footprints of an angel are love, and where there is love, miraculous things can happen. I've seen it. (then she calmly and quitely sits back down)
--> '''Mel''': I'd also like to say something. I don't know if there are any angels here other than the twenty-five of us in uniform. But I know there is one thing I won't do: [[UndyingLoyalty I won't play for anyone but George Knox]]. I believe in him.
--> '''Messmer''': That goes for me, too.
** Then the rest of Angels baseball team, Roger, and J.P. all stand and nod in agreement.
* After Al tells Roger that Mel Clark is dying of lung cancer and won't live to see next season, he assures the boy that Mel will be well taken care of up in heaven with him and the other angels. This gives Roger the motivation to let Mel have one last moment of glory.
* In the climax, Knox realizes that Roger doesn't see an angel, but he knows it's important to Roger that Mel gets his last play. He whispers into Roger's ear, and we find out later that it's to wave his arms, the signal that an angel is with him. Then he goes over to Mel, who apologetically says he has nothing left. Knox reassures him that he does, because an angel is going to help. Cue his team and the ''entire stadium'' waving their arms, including the pitcher meant to sub for him, and Knox reminds him that it's the signal. Mel smiles and says he'll do it.
* The CombinedEnergyAttack to will a fatigued Mel Clark into getting one more out. He believes there's an angel guiding him, makes a pitch, and a successful catch with a DivingSave. As he catches his breath, realizing they won, the team mobs him in a GroupHug for winning the game. Knox comes over with a grin and tells him it wasn't an angel, [[MagicFeather it was all him]]. Mel looks astonished that he managed the successful play, ''all on his own'' and proceeds to cheer.
* Though it hedges into TearJerker territory at first, Roger turning down Knox's offer to adopt him, despite being ecstatic over having a father again, because "I can't leave J.P.". Knox responds, in a tone that implies it should be obvious, "I could ''never'' leave J.P.! He's coming too!"
** When J.P. and Roger briefly worry that Maggie will be alone since they're the only two children at her foster home, Maggie reassures them that she'll be okay and that there will be other foster kids coming soon who will need to be taken care of by her. She is also happy that Knox is adopting both of them.
* Mel Clark's comeback after having been on the bench all season and considered washed up.
* A grateful George Knox, after being told by Roger to start Mel, promises Roger and JP that they can have anything they want. Scene cuts to George Knox playing baseball with all the neighborhood kids.
* Knox says he'll take the boys home, but soon learns that J.P. can't ride in cars. What does he do? Take the two home using the team bus.
