->''"Revenge. Something simple, yet difficult. But even so, that is his objective; one he will complete. Even if he doesn't know the culprit, or has to attend to an academy against his will, or even if he is just a piece of a chess game that has been in pause for 4000 years."''

''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10669569/1/Tales-Of-Fate Tales of Fate]]'' is a WebAnimation/{{RWBY}} and VideoGame/{{Tales Series}} crossover fanfic on Website/FanFictionDotNet by [[https://www.fanfiction.net/u/2396605/Drake-D-Zero Drake D Zero]]. The premise of the story follows a vindictive teenager, Drake Aurion, who is on a quest for revenge but is forced to attend Beacon Academy. During his investigations, he uncovers certain artifacts that link to his own mysterious past, his revenge, and the fate of humanity.

!! 'Tales of Fate' contains examples of:

* AdaptationalHeroism: [[spoiler: Mithos Yggdrasill]][[note]]who was originally the primary antagonist in ''VideoGame/TalesOfSymphonia''[[/note]], is presented as a flawed, but well-meaning AllPowerfulBystander.
* AdaptationalVillainy: While Ozpin was established as the BigGood of RWBY, he was also one of the more mysterious and secretive characters, which is expanded on more here. While Ozpin certainly remains humble and affable, he plays the role as TheChessmaster and the WellIntentionedExtremist, by forcing Drake to join Beacon Academy with hopes using him as an example of an ideal Huntsman. Needless to say, Drake doesn't agree with him.
* BlackAndGrayMorality: While some of the heroes in RWBY have shown to DEFINITELY be on the side of good, Drake is on surprisingly a more gray area. He's a good person, sure, but has a more realistic view of the world that we've never really seen in RWBY and is closer to an AntiHero than an IdealHero.
** This is also the case with Ozpin [[spoiler: and Mithos]], who, while well-meaning, use questionable methods and make disreputable decisions.
* DarkerAndEdgier: The story has it's lighthearted moments, but actually has much more drama and conflict in Drake's story. It also isn't afraid to get bloody and violent from time to time.
* {{Flashback}}: There are several flashbacks that happen throughout the story. Many usually help flesh out Drake's extremely DarkAndTroubledPast and helps the readers see why he is the way he is. Other characters like Yuri, Jude and Guy have flashbacks as well.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: The main focus for Volumes 1-3 are about Drake seeking revenge for the death of his older adoptive brother as well as making strikes against the White Fang for personal reasons.
* SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids: One of the biggest themes in the story is it's cynical outlook towards idealism and optimism. This is made the most clear with Drake's conflict with Ruby and Blake, who both are optimistic and idealistic with their beliefs, which Drake fails to agree with.
* SlidingScaleOfIdealismVsCynicism: The story retains some of RWBY's idealistic undertones, while the author throws in more realism by not making everything Black and White and adding more Gray areas.
