''Power Rangers Wing Force'' is a ''Franchise/PowerRangers'' fanfiction by {{Androzani84}}, the same author behind ''Fanfic/SailorMoonTheRoadNotTaken'' and ''Fanfic/ThePhantomDataSaga''. It is an adaptation of the last ''Sentai'' series before ''Power Rangers'' was picked up, ''Series/ChoujinSentaiJetman''.

Can be read [[https://archiveofourown.org/works/21081710 here]] or cross posted [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13412662/1/Power-Rangers-Wing-Force here]].

!!Regular Power Ranger tropes include:
* AllYourBaseAreBelongToUs: Defied. [[spoiler: After the Dominion discover the location of the Nest, the Rangers abandon it before they can show up and set their operation up in both an abandoned air base and a hotel]].
* BigBad: PlayedWith. Algrin is the dominant force among the Dominion, but he serves Queen Uuhcura, who shows up to take the role, [[DiscOneFinalBoss only to be killed in short order]]. [[spoiler: Then her brother Sir Tann takes over. But since he gets beaten a few episodes later, Galavahex declares [[DragonAscendent Algrin]] the new leader.]]
* CombiningMecha: The Icarus Megazord.
* CoolBike: The Jet Cycles, which are used by Wayne and Lulu.
* CoolCar: The Roger Launcher is initially a subversion, but later plays it straight, by being able to turn into a BFG
* HomeBase: The Nest, directly adapted from Jetman’s own HomeBase.
* InTheNameOfTheMoon: Mostly averted, but played straight in chapter 15, where WordOfGod notes it was unavoidable.
* MakeMyMonsterGrow: The Mutasects [[spoiler: and later the Hybrasects]] can reconstruct their destroyed bodies as long as their bug survives and has absorbed enough kinetic energy.
* TheMentor: Wing Commander, [[spoiler: later Group captain]] June Gordon. [[spoiler: Really an alien named Jangar.]]
* MidSeasonUpgrade: Chapter 8 introduces the Rover Launcher as a new finisher.
** Chapters 13-15 introduce the MechaExpansionPack, in the form of Dash Boxer and [[TransformingMecha the Falcon Corde]].
** Chapter 19 introduces the [=AviAttackers=] as a new sidearm.
* MonsterOfTheWeek: The Mutasects, which create bodies from common objects. [[spoiler: Later upgraded to the Hybrasects, which create HybridCreature bodies]]
* {{Mooks}}: The Bio-Roids, [[CastFromHitPoints spawned from the life energy of he Dominion commanders]]
** EliteMooks: The U-Clones, CanonForeigner henchmen cloned from [[InterimVillain Queen Uuhcura]]. They’re notably tougher than the Bio-Roids, requiring weapons to finish off.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: Defied. Every main villain has gone out and fought the Rangers at least once, with the results either being a HeroicSecondWind for the Rangers or a CurbStompBattle for the Dominion.
* OneWingedAngel: [[spoiler: Uuhcura as the Neo-Mutabrid]]
* ThePsychoRangers: Chapter 18’s Darkness Rangers. Like in the source material, Black isn’t present to have one created, but here it’s due to being held up by U-Clones.
** a different version happens in chapters 25-26, where Tann creates a counterpart for the Icarus known as Orpheus. He even uses the same designers.
* RecruitTeenagersWithAttitude: Averted with Wayne, Carrie and Steven but played straight with Mark, who was in college when he was recruited by Gordon and Lulu, who is still in high school.
* SixthRanger: Averted. The Ranger team has stayed consistent after 22 chapters and most later additions to the Dominion are generally an ArcVillain.
** [[spoiler: As of chapter 23, Gliderak and Aluze are zigzagging this. While they are helping the team out, it’s mostly in mech battles.]]
* SuperMode: Villainous example with Algrin and Uuhcura, who both possess a “Berserker Mode”, which changes their appearance. The reason it’s this and not OneWingedAngel is because they can turn back to (and fight in) their regular forms afterwards.
** Algrin’s is initially a subversion, as using it [[BlessedWithSuck leaves him weakened and causes him to go unconscious to recover]]. [[spoiler: This changes after he studies Uuhcura’s and replicates her protection.]]

!!Tropes exclusive to this fic include:
----
* AchievementsInIgnorance: Algrin’s attempts to [[spoiler: use Uuhcura’s body to create a new monster ends up resurrecting the Queen with more power]].
* AdaptationDistillation: The arc with the demons is merged with the Empress Juza arc and the Semimaru two-parter to have all the team’s power-ups appear at once and to get TheReveal concerning Halatia out much earlier.
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: Wayne is a lot more personable than Gai Yūki and warms up to the others a lot quicker.
** Whereas the Neo-Jetman team were a group of jerkasses who functioned as an AntiHeroSubstitute, the Armoured Rangers are portrayed as friendly, if a little misguided due to their mentor’s influence.
* AIIsACrapshoot: [[spoiler: When an accident gives Tann’s Orpheus it’s own will, it decides to destroy all organic life in the universe.]]
* AmnesiacDissonance: The Maria/Rie storyline is adapted faithfully here with Halatia/Mary, with one difference.
** AndIMustScream: Mary was aware of everything Halatia was doing (at first) and is relieved to be free from her.
* AmnesiacHero: Steven is this, with a large part of the MythArc being devoted to finding out the truth.
* AscendedExtra: Minor villain of the week Ant Bazooka, who didn’t even get one fight scene in Jetman, gets reimagined as Cannant, TheDragon to Sir Tann.
* AttackOfThe50FootWhatever: Algrin’s preferred choice of monsters.
* BerserkButton: Do not use Mark’s memories of Mary against him. Halatia and Gaminator find this out the hard way.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: General Alex.
* BroughtDownToNormal: The 4 Rangers sucked into the dream world lose their powers as a result of [[spoiler: Predictra’s]] influence.
** Happens again in chapter 22 courtesy of Kurorg.
* {{Brainwashed}}: Lulu in chapters 4 and 28. Wayne ad Steven join her in the latter.
* ButNotTooForeign: Carrie’s mother is Japanese, but her father is definitely American.
* CameBackStrong: [[spoiler: Uuhcura’s Neo-Mutabrid form is much more powerful than her original body, being able to [[NoSell tank most of the team’s attacks]] and [[CurbStompBattle beat the holy shit out of everyone.]]]]
* CaptainErsatz: The Armoured Rangers are this and a TakeThat to the cast of Fanfic/EigaSentaiScanranger.
** Vic Hardrock: Vin Harlock. Vic’s “only in it for the girls” mentality recalls Vin’s InformedFlaw of being a sucker for a pretty face.
** Benny Clark Simeon: BC Shimamaura. Benny Clark’s jokes receive the [[DudeNotFunny same reaction]] in universe as BC’s jokes do [[HumorDissonance without.]]
** Nicky Simonson: Nick Simmonds.
** Michael Koon: Kunio “Mikey” Mikimoto. Like Mikey, Michael abuses GratuitousJapanese to the point it annoys actual Japanese person Carrie.
** Antonia Montana: Toni Montanez. Antonia’s lack of characterization and dialogue matches Toni’s status.
** Even the team’s mentor General Alex is a GenderFlip of Scanranger’s Professor Alex. His contacts Hayato Moboroshi and Mohammed Nanak recall Scanranger allies Takeshi Hayata and Peter Emmanuel.
*** Fittingly, the MonsterOfTheWeek for that chapter fits in, being called “Kurorg” (a portmanteau of he word “Kuro”, which proceeds every monster name in that fic and Blackorg, the BigBad of that story) as a LineOfSightName (Its the only thing he can say).
* ChekhovsArmory: Chapter 5 introduces a set of blueprints for multiple new pieces of equipment. This ends up giving the Rangers new vehicles and a new Zord.
* ChekhovsGunman: The mysterious woman in black who the whole team gradually encounters [[spoiler: turns out to be Queen Uuhcura]]
* TheChooserOfTheOne: Commander Gordon selects Mark, Carrie and Steven, while Wayne nominates himself and Lulu to fill out the team.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Averted with Gordon’s assistant Ratcliffe, who’s absence from 11 chapters and replacement with Caldwell is handwaved as having spent time on vacation.
* ComicBookMoviesDontUseCodeNames: The fic for the most part refers to the heroes as “Flying Rangers” and their Zords as “vehicles”. The Megazords play with this, by being title with “Megazord” in their name, but the narration and characters don’t use it often.
* ConnectedAllAlong: Wayne sharing a surname with a character from Series/PowerRangersMegaforce is not a coincidence. [[spoiler: Said character is his brother]]
* ConservationOfNinjutsu: Tann takes down Mark easily in their solo fight, but loses against 4 shots from 4 Rangers. Justified, as [[WorfHadTheFlu Mark was exhausted the first time and Tann had been depowered the second time]].
* CrazyPrepared: Chapter 4 reveals that the change bracelets have a function to break brainwashing that activates when the user tries to morph.
** Chapter 8 reveals another example, wherein any member of the team can have their powers remotely revoked by forcibly ejecting their power chip.
** Chapter 27 turns both of these into a ChekhovsGun [[spoiler: with Mark using both to break his teammates free from their spell. Too bad Wayne is GenreSavvy enough to see through it, forcing a fight between them]].
* DeathByIrony: Mr. Fuzzy/Bearserker is killed by the same villain that created him.
** [[spoiler: The rogue AI Orpheus is done in by heroic AI Dash Boxer, under orders from the very organics he had earlier disparaged]].
* DeathSeeker: When Mary is freed from her brainwashing, she notes that she forgives Mark for trying to kill her and actually wished that he might succeed. Thankfully, she grew out it.
* DecompositeCharacter: Tran(za) is split into Fwelf and Tann.
** Radiguet’s OneWingedAngel form is given to [[spoiler: Uuhcura]].
* DeconstructionFic: In all, the story seems to be playing most of the tropes it uses more realistically than normal uses.
** Chapter 8 deconstructs the LeeroyJenkins approach, with Mark’s reckless charge only hurting his friends and giving the villains an opening to weaken them further.
** In general, the story deconstructs the damage MechVsBeast fights would cause, with many actually fleeing the city for fear of their lives and the Ranger team working to minimise damage by keeping the battles short.
** Related to the above, PoliceAreUseless is averted, with the regular military sending in a disaster response unit to deal with the crisis, who eventually begin cooperating with the Rangers.
** Chapter 12 deconstructs the FreudianExcuse, by having Algrin share his story of [[ForcedIntoEvil having his planet destroyed by Uuhcura, forcing him to serve her.]] Carrie simply points out that her grandparents had their homes destroyed in the atomic bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima (her mother is Japanese), but they didn’t declare UndyingLoyalty to the Americans.
** Uuhcura deconstructs being a BadBoss, by managing to alienate or kill off all of her loyal minions, meaning that none of them have qualms killing her or [[LastDisrespects desecrating her body for science]].
** The Avions deconstruct OffstageVillainy by being victims of said offstage villainy that have come back for revenge.
** The Armoured Rangers are a deconstruction of the Fanfic/EigaSentaiScanranger protagonists, showing what would happen if they were dropped into a more realistic setting and stripped of the CreatorsPet treatment they got in the fic proper. It also indicates that their favouritism from their mentor has warped their worldview and makes the regular Rangers hate them as a result.
* DemotedToExtra: The third Demon Mu is reduced to a minor minion of Uuhcura who doesn’t encounter the Rangers and doesn’t even get a name until after his death.
* DenouementEpisode: After the last chapter, the author uploaded an additional epilogue entitled “The Last Word” It features a {{Crossover}} with the [[Series/MightyMorphinPowerRangers original Red Ranger]], Mary and Steven getting ThrowTheDogABone moments and [[spoiler: Kuroden and Aobrix coming BackFromTheDead]].
* DownerEnding: Chapter 11, based on the equally upsetting episode 21 of Jetman.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Uuhcura turns out to be invading Earth because [[spoiler: she doesn’t want [[Series/PowerRangersInSpace Dark Specter’s forces]] taking over the universe and the planet will allow her and her allies to fight back]].
** Kuroden turns on Uuhcura after she dishonours the memory of his brother. [[spoiler: Too bad it doesn’t work out.]]
** Galvahex genuinely regrets having to create a fake backstory for Halatia, wishing that he could share the truth with her.
* FantasyForbiddingFather: Daniel Brown is initially this to his daughter Carrie, but he comes around before he makes his first appearance.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Chapter 7 has a mysterious woman state that her child is going to be born soon. [[spoiler: The woman turns out to be Queen Uuhcura, who’s child Kodokor is a central part of the arc.]]
** In chapter 8, Galvahex describes what happens to victims of the [[MindProbe Brain Scrape]] like Mary. [[ExactWords But he doesn’t say it’s what happened to her.]]
** Chapter 10 had Gordon noting to herself that won’t be open with a secret of hers. A few chapters later, it transpires that [[spoiler: she’s keeping something from them, which gets slowly revealed as the story continues]].
** Chapter 12 has Carrie twice mock Halatia for not taking advantage of the fact she is a HumanAlien for real espionage. The next chapter gives us a very good reason why they don’t. (Namely, that she would easily be recognised by the Rangers or their support team.)
* FusionDance: Uuhcura merges Kuroden with the dead body of his brother Aobrix to create a Mutabrid. The result is [[LossOfIdentity totally mindless, with memories of neither remaining intact]].
* GodSaveUsFromTheQueen: Queen Uuhcura is definitely a KnightOfCerebus.
* HarmlessFreezing: PlayedWith. Kodokor easily breaks free of his icy prison, but it damages him enough to [[DramaPreservingHandicap give the Rangers and their Avion allies a reprieve.]]
* HollywoodToneDeaf: Private Dawson, who brings along a BrainlessBeauty to make himself look better.
* HiddenDepths: Mark turns out to have a knack for sewing and a passionate interest in Literature/GulliversTravels. Also, strong IJustWantToBeNormal issues.
* HonoraryPrincess: Halatia, on account of being an AuthorityInNameOnly.
* HumanAliens: Uuhcura and Tann. Averted with Halatia, who is actually a human and the Avions, who are simply wearing disguises. [[spoiler: June Gordon is implied to be one too, before being confirmed as such]]
* HumansAreBastards: Episode 11 has a group of people stoning Mr. Fuzzy, even after [[UngratefulBastard he helped a child and fixed somebody’s car]].
* IdenticalStranger: Averted. [[spoiler: Marvin Hinton looks nothing like Steven Hartford, as Private Dawson can attest]].
* KnightOfCerebus: Uuhcura’s full arrival leads to the author toning down Lulu’s jokes and removing comic relief ButtMonkey due Matt and Eddie.
** Tann’s reappearance also cements him as this, as he [[CurbStompBattle beats the stuffing out of everyone he fights]].
* {{Jerkass}}: [[spoiler: Yas Rushton in the “Showdown” two-parter. He basically acts like, the Rangers shouldn’t exist [[InsaneTrollLogic because he doesn’t know about them]] and steals part of the Ultrazord, causing it to shut down at a bad time. [[UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom And he caused the paradox he was trying to avert by doing this]].]]
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: Yas Rushton, who is unusual in that he is a human character and the fic treats itself as if it were to actually air on television]].
* LostInImitation: Quite a few elements are taken from Fanfic/PowerRangersTakeFlight.
** Wayne’s name was the birth name of that fic’s Black Ranger.
** The Yellow Ranger is a black man.
** Maria’s counterpart is a Princess and the daughter of Juza’s counterpart [[spoiler: Or not]].
* MissingMom: Mark, Carrie and Lulu all have dead mothers.
* MythologyGag: To substitute for the StockFootage in a text only medium, voiceover announcements are added similar to more recent Toku shows. The ones here are based on Series/GoGoSentaiBoukenger, except for the Falcon Corde, which is based on [[Series/KaitouSentaiLupinrangerVsKeisatsuSentaiPatranger the Dial Fighters]].
** [[Series/PowerRangersBeastMorphers a Ranger goes on a murderous rampage where they lose all rational thinking ability against their]] [[TheLostLenore lost girlfriend’s]] EvilDoppelganger. But unlike Ravi, Mark is stopped before he can do the deed.
** [[Series/ChoushinseiFlashman Super Black Hole Crash!]] Even better, Mark commands “Dash Boxer, jump!” beforehand.
* NearVillainVictory: Algrin accidentally helps Kodokor almost defeat the Rangers for Uuhcura, until Gliderak stops him.
* NobleDemon: Galvahex is this, as much as his programming will allow it.
* OutOfFocus: Steven, due to the author not knowing what to do with him at first. Even when it was decided to tie him into the MythArc, he still receives focus episodes only when the author is tired of writing for everyone else.
* PetTheDog: Kuroden and Aobrix restore Mary to normal and give her back to Mark with no strings attached.
** Galvahex says that if he had known where Wayne was hospitalised, he’d have sent flowers.
* PluckyComicRelief: Lulu often makes jokes based on the situation, much to everyone else’s chagrin.
** NotSoAboveItAll: Everyone but Steven has made their own such quips at some point.
* PunBasedTitle: A lot of episodes are named this way.
* PunnyName: Swan Sonic (Swansong), Sir Tann ([[LouisCypher Satan]]) and the Falcon Corde (Concorde).
* RankUp: For defeating Kodokor, Gordon gets promoted to Group captain from Wing Commander and Mark gets promoted to Flying Officer from Pilot.
* ShownTheirWork: The military promotions are accurate to real life air forces.
** The author also did some research into both meanings for Tarot cards, and dietary habits of ants for separate chapters.]]
* ShoutOut: Mark’s first battle has him [[Series/KamenRiderKuuga fighting against a murderous inhumanoid who doesn’t speak English]]. Bonus points for the suit slowly forming around him for that scene only.
** A lot of guest characters get their name from Anime/BakuganBattleBrawlers.
** Wayne upgrades his and Lulu’s CoolBike to respond to the phrase [[Series/KamenRider555 “Come Closer”]].
** A flute in chapter 9 plays the tune for [[Series/KamenRiderKiva the Zanbat]].
** The planet [[Creator/ToshikiInoue Inoue 6]].
* TakeThat: Yas Rushton is named for [[Creator/YasukoKobayashi “a certain writer that both I and the head writer of Jetman don’t like.”]]
* TwentyMinutesIntoThePast: This fic is implied to take place prior to all prior Power Rangers series.
* TheUnintelligible: StarterVillain Dolan has his dialogue written entirely in gibberish (though the author is gracious enough to translate).
** Kurorg is also this, on account of having no vocal chords.
