X Chronicles is a fanfiction written by Cyrex, based on the Mega Man X series.
!!X Chronicles contains examples of (TBA):
* AbortedArc: [[WordOfGod Cyrex]] stated he was originally only having Alia debut in the X4 story arc and be unaware of X's plans. However, this was getting in the way of his plan to have X and Alia be an OfficialCouple in his fanfic, so he made Alia's AdaptationalEarlyAppearance earlier, and gave her an AdaptationOriginConnection with Flame Stag as a ticket for Alia to know about X's plans.
* ActOfTrueLove: When X reveals Iris can be saved by giving her a substitute power core, Zero wishes to sacrifice his own core for Iris.
* AdaptationalBackstoryChange:
** Boomer Kuwanger was abused by humanity before joining the Maverick Hunters.
** A side plot revolves around the interactions between Launch Octopus (under the guise of Depthcharge) and Jessica, the granddaughter of the one and only human who cared about Launch Octopus prior to the events of X1. [[spoiler: This side plot ends with Launch Octopus quitting the Maverick Hunters so he could take care of Jessica]]
** See also AdaptationOriginConnection below.
* AdaptationalBadass: Cyrex despised how X remained "childish" despite all the wars. As such, X is fleshed out as having a kindness and courage matched to a power and ferocity that could scare even Mavericks.
* AdaptationalDiversity: Mostly thanks to the fact many Mavericks are SparedByAdaptation.
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: Alia, Signas, Colonel, Iris and Gate fall under this trope. [[spoiler: Alia and Signas appeared in the X1 story arc, although Signas only appeared at the very end of it, and his character development started in the X2 story arc. Colonel, Iris and Gate made their debut in the X3 story arc.]]
* AdaptationalIntelligence: Perhaps this happens with X. He was smart enough in the series to pick up Storm Eagle's IC chip. He also has the intelligence to connect a Reploid to the power core of another Reploid, which impressed even Zero.
** Split Mushroom is a scientist in this adaptation.
* AdaptationalHeroism: Many of the Mavericks become close allies to X after their defeat. [[spoiler: Most significantly Sigma.]]
* AdaptationalNameChange: [[spoiler: The female, benevolent avatar of the Maverick Virus, named [=iCO=] in canon, is named Vira here.]]
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: Flame Mammoth is nicer than in the games. Slash Beast is less violent and ruthless. [[spoiler: Maybe in his case it's because [[SparedByAdaptation X saved his life]] [[TakingTheBullet twice...]]]]
* AdaptationalVillainy: Gate already went Maverick by the time he made his debut in the X3 story arc.
* AdaptationNameChange: PlayedWith. In the first two story arcs (coresponding to X1 and X2), the Mavericks do this after they join X.
* AdaptationOriginConnection:
** Signas is actually Sigma's reasonable side.
** Colonel and Iris were created by Gate.
** Slash Beast is a clone of Neon Tiger.
** After joining the Maverick Hunters, Alia trained under Flame Stag for a while. Most likely before Sigma went Maverick.
** Several Mavericks were trained by some X1 Mavericks:
*** Flame Stag trained under Flame Mammoth.
*** Blizzard Buffalo trained under Chill Penguin.
*** Volt Catfish trained under Spark Mandrill.
*** Tunnel Rhino trained under Armored Armadillo.
*** Although not truly a Maverick, Storm Owl apparently trained under Storm Eagle.
* AdaptedOut: The Eurasia Incident was ended early.
* AlternateContinuity: Of Mega Man, particularly the X series. One of many.
* AscendedExtra:
** This happens to Dr. Cain, who only appears in X2 and X3 as a minor character, in X1 we only see his journal, [[AllThereInTheManual and even then only via the manual]], and from X4 forward, he didn't appear at ALL.
** Signas also falls under this trope, [[spoiler: partly thanks to his AdaptationOriginConnection with Sigma]].
*** In fact, all Mavericks that fall under the AdaptationalHeroism trope fall under this trope as well.
* BatmanGambit: X turns the X-Hunters against him to convince Wily to attempt a DemonicPossession. When Wily infects X, the latter frees the Maverick Virus [[spoiler: (implied to be Roll)]] from Wily's control.
* BigBad: The Maverick Virus. During the X2 adaptation, this role was shared with Serges, [[spoiler: who in fact was Dr. Wily in a robotic body]].
* CainAndAbel: The relationship between Colonel and Iris decays into this after the Repliforce incident, with Colonel being Cain and Iris being Abel.
* CanonCharacterAllAlong: Neon Tiger's clone would go on to become Slash Beast.
* CanonForeigner: Cadis, Dex, Councilor Teagan, Jessica.
* CompositeCharacter: [[spoiler: High Max is actually [[OneWingedAngel an upgraded Colonel]].]]
* DefeatEqualsFriendship: The Viral Mavericks X defeats become X's closest allies.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Storm Owl makes one of these in the Mega Man X3 saga. This is an ironic case, since Storm Owl is based on a '''nocturnal''' bird.
* GainaxEnding: While the ending of "Fall of X" isn't hard to understand on most parts, as it shows the Maverick Hunters moving on to more peaceful lives, there are some elements that are somewhat hard to swallow. [[spoiler: X essentially purges Wily out of the Maverick Virus, turning the virus in a female Reploid (the fic's iteration of [=iCO=], for all intents and purposes), and then the new Reploid, Vira, [[BrainwashingForTheGreaterGood brainwashes the unrepentant Mavericks into turning good]].]]
* GreaterScopeVillain:
** Obviously, Dr. Wily. Having created Zero and TheVirus, the latter who is responsible for Sigma going Maverick and who, at the end of the X1 story arc, becomes the BigBad over Sigma, [[spoiler: whose AI was taken by X]], it is Dr. Wily who is the ultimate root of basically all of the X Chronicles series' conflict.
*** It should be noted that [[spoiler: Serges, the BigBad of most the X2 story arc, is actually Dr. Wily's Reploid avatar, so this trope is not averted in this arc.]]
* TheManBehindTheMan: According to X, it is Councilor Teagan who placed Double in the Maverick Hunters.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: It happens a lot.
** All viral Mavericks regretted being used as puppets by the virus. [[spoiler: Exception being Serges, Violen and Agile, since Serges is Dr. Wily, the person who created the virus, and Violen and Agile are blindly loyal to Serges.]]
** [[AlasPoorVillain X feels this when he killed Vile]].
** Chill Penguin and Flame Stag tore Alia's heart apart. They apologized to Alia as soon as she learned about X's plans.
** Sigma/Signas feels that he's responsible for more crimes than anyone else, due to the virus stealing his identity.
** Despite Iris was SparedByAdaptation, Zero still felt, after his fight with her, that he was nothing but an useless jerk. On the plus side, Iris too feels horrible about fighting Zero, so they can help each other overcome the trauma their fight caused on them.
** Perhaps the worst case of this trope is Wire Sponge. He killed everyone Cadis knew.
** Fun fact: Storm Eagle actually mentions this trope after his defeat.
* MythologyGag: At the beginning of ''Fall of X'', Zero, Iris and Alia start believing that X [[JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope became a dictator of sorts]]. When they question X about it, he claims that [[UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans it's for the safety of humans and Reploids alike]]. [[VideoGame/MegaManZero A copy of X]] also becomes a KnightTemplar dictator in the games, although that copy only cares about humans.
* NamedByTheAdaptation:
** Sigma is given a last name: Enigma.
** [[MemeticBadass Green Biker Dude]] is named Gibdan.
* NotAsYouKnowThem: With X and most of the Mavericks, [[spoiler: including Sigma/Signas]].
* OfficialCouple: X and Alia, Zero and Iris.
* PowerIncontinence: In "Fall of X", Zero suffers of this, due to his connection to the Maverick Virus.
* PromotedToLoveInterest: Alia, given that she's shown more romantic interest in X in the story than in the games.
* RobotReligion: The Reploids lately seem to worship Dr. Light like a god. In fact, X is apparently the only one who sees Dr. Light as he truly is: a modest old man.
** One would assume it's ThankTheMaker since Dr. Light created X, the template after which all Reploids are based... but then it turns out ''Zero'' of all people worships Dr. Light as well.
* ShoutOut: The alias Boomer Kuwanger took upon himself after his defeat? [[Characters/MegaManClassicRobotMastersNES Quickman]].
* SparedByAdaptation: All over the place.
** Of course, since Iris' death was the most tragic one in the games, she's the happiest case of this trope.
** Averted with Serges, Violen, Agile, General, temporarily Vile, and perhaps Cyber Peacock and Double. However, Slash Beast falls twice under this trope: not only X [[TakingTheBullet took a hit meant for Slash Beast]], [[spoiler:but Slash Beast is a clone of Neon Tiger, meaning he was fought in a gauntlet before the confrontation with Dr. Doppler.]]
* SurvivorGuilt: In her debut, Cadis labels herself as a Maverick because of Wire Sponge's crimes. Granted, she joined the Maverick Hunters, but it took a lot of convincing from X to make her realize that she's no Maverick. Might be a female case of ILetGwenStacyDie, but I don't know if this trope fits.
* TakingTheBullet: X does that for Slash Beast. As thanks, Slash Beast surrenders quietly.
* TheBusCameBack: After being absent during the Repliforce incident, Depthcharge returned to the Maverick Hunters during the Nightmare Phenomenon, and this time he brought Jessica with him.
** BackForTheFinale: Since the Nightmare Phenomenon is the last arc of the series, Depthcharge's return counts.
* TookALevelInBadass: Zero realizes this about X when he connects Iris to Zero's power core.
* UnexpectedCharacter: In-universe, no one expected Depthcharge and Jessica to join (rejoin in the former's case) the Maverick Hunters during the Nightmare Phenomenon.
* UnrelatedInTheAdaptation: Averted. [[WordOfGod Cyrex]] stated that he didn't originally know that Boomer Kuwanger and Gravity Beetle were brothers, but the fanbase explained that to him before the X3 story arc.
* UnwillingRoboticization: This happens to some humans, turning them into cyborgs. No thanks to Split Mushroom.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse:
** After being taken under Maverick Hunter arrest, Split Mushroom and Magma Dragoon are never seen or mentioned again.
