''The Dream Journal'' is a fanfiction by Quizilla user BraveThePwnsome.

A young girl begins keeping a dream journal. She quickly discovers that the journal is enchanted, causing any dreams that she writes in it to become true. She ''also'' discovers that writing in the journal has caused it to be bound to her, and that she has to write in the journal or else she'll die. The enchantment causes several fictional characters from various works to come into existence, as well as causing some trouble with already existing beings as well, and after a few days she sets out to try to reverse the enchantment.

The story eventually becomes a Manga/BlackButler[=/=]Franchise/MyLittlePony[=/=]Music/TheAntlers crossover. There's also a handful of references to Literature/WarriorCats in the earlier chapters.

The story was originally thought to be lost after Quizilla closed in October of 2014, but fear not, [[https://web.archive.org/web/20140930210150/http://quizilla.teennick.com/stories/24373747/the-dream-journal-1 the Wayback Machine preserved it in all of its glory for the years to come]].

!! This fanfic contains examples of:

* AbortedArc:
** It's never actually explained how Sebastian [[spoiler: comes back from the dead]] or [[spoiler: why he suddenly switches teams halfway through the story]] or even [[spoiler: why he's so obsessed with a girl he barely knows and who, at the time, had effectively screwed him over]].
** Also, in chapter 21 [[spoiler: Peter, Isabel and Miranda are all wanted for murdering Sebastian, and even show up on the news, but this is forgotten a couple of chapters later.]]
** The fact that the dream journal has also appeared to allow travel in between a select few fictional universes (the Black Butler and My Little Pony universes, respectively) is also never mentioned again.
** The Evil Trio are also mostly forgotten about after chapter 17 or so.
* AccidentalMarriage: Due to the nature of the Dream Journal, this ends up happening after Isabel has a dream about getting married. [[spoiler: This is actually how Isabel and Peter even meet in the first place.]]
* AuthorAppeal: Arguably the only reason why Peter Silberman is one of the characters.
* ADayInTheLimelight: Twilight gets her own POV chapter after [[spoiler: Isabel gets kidnapped by Sebastian]] to show what the group is up to.
* AllJustADream: [[spoiler:Although the events in the story actually ''happened'', in the epilogue everyone assumes it was just a really weird dream.]]
* {{Angrish}}: Isabel succumbs to this after learning that [[spoiler: the Evil Trio no longer have the papers that the enchantment was written on]].
* CliffhangerCopout: Chapter 13's ending is set up to make it sound as if [[spoiler: Isabel will have to quit trying to destroy the enchantment]]. However, in chapter 14, [[spoiler: Grell just mows Sebastian down with his chainsaw]].
* CurbStompBattle:
** In chapter 13, Grell manages to [[spoiler: 'kill' Sebastian with his chainsaw]].
** In chapter 18 [[spoiler: Miranda ''actually'' kills Sebastian off by stabbing him to death with her keyblade.]]
* DeusExMachina:
** Alex's sudden revelation that she has a house when the group needs to relocate to a new location.
** Isabel's car.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: Nearly every villain presented in the story turns out to be this.
** Up until chapter 14, [[spoiler: the Evil Trio]] are set up as the main villains, but it turns out [[spoiler: they really didn't have anything to do with the enchantment in the first place, and that they don't even have the papers in their possession anymore.]]
** After that, [[spoiler: Sebastian and the Angry Old Couple]] are set up as the real villains, but [[spoiler: Sebastian gets killed in one hit by Miranda, therefore rendering him useless]] and [[spoiler: the Angry Old Couple]] don't really do much of anything to oppose the protagonists to begin with, other than being pissed off that someone broke into their house.
* DistressBall: Passed back and forth between Alex, Twilight and Isabel between chapters [[spoiler: thirteen through eighteen]].
* ForgotAboutHisPowers:
** Miranda in chapter 13. [[spoiler: She has the most powerful weapon in the group, and could kill Sebastian right there and then if she wanted to, but for the sake of drama doesn't actually do so until much later on in the story.]]
** Also applies to Twilight and Alex in the very same chapter [[spoiler: seeing as Twilight has ridiculously powerful magic and Alex could've just painted them to the wall and escaped if she wanted to.]]
* FriendVersusLover: Miranda and Grell. This is the main source of conflict in some of the earlier chapters.
* GenreRoulette: The story jumps between comedy, angst, and romance at random intervals, and eventually just succumbs to poorly written romance subplots and neverending angst until the very end.
* InterspeciesRomance: Alex and Grell.
* LastEpisodeNewCharacter: Alois and Ciel. It looks like they were most likely going to serve some purpose to the story, but the story ended a few chapters after their arrival, thus making them useless.
* OvernightAgeUp: Everyone who was included in the wedding was aged up at least ten years. Whether or not the timeline was actually ''advanced'' by ten years is never specified, and it's assumed that everyone simply appears to be older while still being their original age. [[spoiler: This makes the ensuing romance plots somewhat disturbing if one thinks about it too hard.]]
* PlotDetour: All of the events from chapter seventeen up until chapter twenty seven could be considered this.
* PlotHole: There are numerous plot holes throughout the story, including but not limited to:
** [[spoiler: Despite the fact that the papers are well-within their reach in chapter seventeen (and that Sebastian doesn't pose a threat to them at the moment since he's painted to a wall) Isabel and the group opt to leave instead...for some reason.]]
** It's never actually explained in the story who is actually the villain. [[spoiler: Sebastian, the Evil Trio and the Angry Old Couple are all set up as the main villains, but which one of them actually is was never explained.]]
** And why did Sebastian [[spoiler: join the opposing side, anyway?]]
** The entire plot of the story itself could count as one giant plot hole. The plot relies on the fact that Isabel will never be teleported so far away by a dream that she can't get back in time to write in the journal and subsequently die. It also relies on the fact that she'll remember all of her dreams in enough detail to then write about them, and that she actually has dreams every night to begin with.
** Also, what in the ''hell'' happened to the cats? They're never seen again after chapter 10, and no legitimate explanation is given for their sudden disappearance.
* RealDreamsAreWeirder: Invoked throughout the story, although chapters two and ten are notable examples.
* {{Retcon}}: A very minor example is presented in chapter 8. Up until then, the general belief is that everyone in the wedding party aged ten years (and in some chapters, it's assumed that the timeline has actually been advanced by ten years) but when asked why she's friends with little kids, Isabel just says the dream made everyone ''look'' ten years older, while remaining their current age.
* StalkerWithACrush: Sebastian's sudden interest in Isabel is interpreted as this by most everyone, and although at one point he claims [[spoiler: he was attempting to seduce her]], just before [[spoiler: his death, he challenges Peter to a duel, perceiving him as one of her suitors.]]
