''Demon of Wind'' is an AlternateUniverseFic in the ''WesternAnimation/XiaolinShowdown'' archives written by Mr Makulu. In it, the Xiaolin Dragon Raimundo Pedrosa does not exist. To accompany the remaining three warriors, there's Rai: A snarky wind demon with a sense of humor not unlike his canon counterpart.

The fic opens with Kimiko putting away the Sheng Gon Wu that their team used for their latest battle against evil. She accidentally drops the Mantis Flip Coin, finds a tunnel beneath the temple, and comes across a chamber that holds a stone statue of a boy with a spear in his chest. Feeling some pity for the boy, she removes the weapon from him before heading back up to ground level. With the Spear of Dashi taken away, Wuya's apprentice Rai is free and breathing again after fifteen hundred years. Everything just snowballs from there, following some of the show's storyline while still managing to hold up an original backstory and plot.

The fic itself is completed, boasting thirty-one chapters and over one hundred thousand words. Some grammatical errors are nigh, but they can easily be looked over. Start [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3632533/1/Demon-of-Wind here]].

!!This fanfic provides examples of:

* AngerBornOfWorry: Rai fakes being killed by a paper talisman. Kimiko is not amused.
* AntiHero: Rai, of the Pragmatic kind.
* AppliedPhlebotinum: A Virtue, which is created on the deathbed of a powerful being, has the power to pretty much do anything. [[spoiler: Including turning some certain demons human.]]
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler: Chiyoko is the descendant of the priestess Chiyo who 1500 years ago wanted to help Rai become human. After accidentally sending an ambush after him, Chiyo had a vision that one of her descendants would be able to break the curse and created a Virtue on her deathbed. It had since been passed down each generation eventually to Chiyoko, making it her duty to restore Rai's humanity.]]
* BadassBoast: See the title quote.
* BerserkButton / UnstoppableRage: Do '''not''' hurt Kimiko in front of Rai.
* BelligerentSexualTension: Kimiko and Rai, of course.
* BigBadEnsemble: Just about every villain in the series makes an appearance, plus some original ones.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Clay to Kimiko, for obvious reasons. In the side story ''Life as a Good Guy'', however, Clay remarks that he has little reason to think about kicking Rai's ass - If he ever hurt her, Kimiko would probably make sure there was nothing left of the demon for him to hurt.
* BigEgoHiddenDepths: Rai. ''Hoooooo'' boy.
* BlowYouAway: Who do you think?
* BluntMetaphorsTrauma: Omi. Rai eventually gets fed up with him and calls him out on it.
* CoolOldLady: The Bird of Paradise ([[ShapeShifter at least in one of her forms]]) makes an appearance to the fic. She's very relevant too.
* CurbStompBattle: The Xiaolin Dragons get this treatment a few times, via Rai. At one point it's done as a training exercise.
* DeadpanSnarker: Rai, even moreso than Raimundo originally. He provides some of the best lines in the story due to this attitude trait of his. And Guan gets a few good ones in too.
-->'''Rai:''' And so the conversation once more ends in violence. Honestly, why do I put up with that woman's antics?
-->'''Guan:'''I believe scientists are calling it the Y-Chromosome nowadays.
* DeviousDaggers: Rai has all sorts of powers but he's especially fond of his dagger.
* DyingMomentOfAwesome: Possibly what happens when Clone Rai and Younger Rai fade away once Rai regains his humanity. And singing Frank Sinatra's 'My Way', complete with microphone, spolights and a tuxedo probably the best way to go.
-->'''Rai:'''So that's it? No final closing number? Just an imaginary hand shake and a walk away. Aren't you at least going make some effort?
-->'''Clone Rai:''' Are you sure? Wouldn't it be better to play it low key and not ruin the moment?
-->'''Rai:''' Since when has low key been our style?
--> ''[cue singing]''
* FourIsDeath: [[spoiler: Omi mentions this when Rai is appointed the fourth Wudai Warrior. Rai says they'll figure that out later.]]
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: Kimiko does this to Rai when he is [[HeroicBSOD BSODing.]]
* GetOut: Rai yells this at the Cleansers when one of them struck Kimiko with an arrow. [[spoiler: Turns out it was Hannibal disguised as a cleanser to 'get the fire going' as he put it.]]
* GilliganCut: Used twice in Chapters 23 and 25. The first with Hannibal and Wuya wondering where Jack is. Cue him with a nurse in a mental hospital. Then the latter happening with Takeo and a member of his cleansing team talking about Chucky Choo's reliability.
-->'''Team Member:''' So just how well can we trust this source of yours?
-->'''Takeo:''' We made sure he was telling the truth.
-->'''Chucky Choo:''' ''[Cut to Chucky being held over an open flame]'' THAT'S ALL I KNOW! I SWEAR!
* GoKartingWithBowser: Chase and Guan play a game of Xiangpi when Chase is powerless during the Heylin Eclipse.
--> '''Guan:''' While you are withdrawn from the world during the eclipse, I must withdraw as well for risk of upsetting the balance. I was hoping to take the opportunity to challenge an old friend to a friendly game of Xiangqi while we wait to see what will become of the world after the events of today.
-->'''Chase:''' You expect me to entertain some twisted sense of nostalgia?
-->'''Guan:''' You had something better to do today?
-->'''Chase:''' ''[glares]'' ..if I'm playing this stupid game, I get to be red.
* GreenEyedMonster: Rai is this briefly in Chapter 24 when the Dragons practice with their cool Wudai Weapons. He gets over it.
* HeelFaceTurn: From early on, Rai makes it a point to mention that he hated working for Wuya and he'd much rather entertain himself on the side of good.
* HehHehYouSaidX: Disembowel is a funny word.
* HellishPupils: Rai acquires these when he is a demon, [[SubvertedTrope although he's not that bad once you get to know him.]] [[spoiler: They go away when he becomes human though.]]
* HeroicBSOD: Rai gets this later in the the third arc. Luckily Kimiko is there to [[GetAHoldOfYourselfMan promptly snap him out of it.]]
* HeroicComedicSociopath: Rai, natch.
* HeWhoFightsMonsters: [[spoiler: Rai is inches from killing Chiyoko with his dagger when he stops.]]
--> '''Rai:''' I'm a demon; not a monster.
* [[spoiler: HumanityEnsues: At the end of Chapter 26.]]
* HypocriticalHumor
* IDidWhatIHadToDo
* FriendshipMoment: Rai has a particularly sweet one with Clay in Chapter 23. They're all over the place though.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Rai, arguably more jerkier and goldier than the original series.
* LimitedWardrobe: Averted with Kimiko and Rai. Rai's Heylin robes can alter at his will and take on the appearance of any clothing he thinks of.
* MesACrowd: Not for chores, though. At one point Rai duplicates himself in order to help uplift Jack's spirits and is stuck with them until the effects of the Shadow Slicer run out.
* {{Metaphorgotten}}:
-->'''Rai:''' I mean I'm like crude oil, don't get hung up on where it comes from, focus on what it can do for mankind.
-->'''Master Cai:''' Yes let's look at what it can do. It can pollute the air, destroys oceans when spilt, cause wars to obtain it and all it takes is a spark for everything to go up in flames.
-->'''Rai:''' [[LampshadeHanging Ok maybe that metaphor failed.]]
* NoodleIncident: An incident with the emperor's daughter is mentioned a few times before we get an explanation. Also Rai for some reason spanking every animal on the temple grounds. Or Kimiko making him apologize to each of them afterwards.
* NonSequiturThud: Rai after receiving a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown from the Xiaolin Monks.
-->'''Guan:''' So Rai, did you want to keep going or just concede the victory?
-->'''Rai:''' [[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments Only if mine comes with extra syrup, Mr. Panda.]]
* NotWhatItLooksLike: Clay sees Rai pretty much straddling Kimiko as she's waking up. Rai doesn't seem to care. Clay's surprised by this.
--> "Dang it Rai! When someone walks in on you in a situation like this you are meant jump away and try full heartedly to convince me that this isn't what this looks like."
* {{Omniglot}}: Due to past divine intervention, Rai can automatically understand any language given. This ability turns on and off briefly when he [[spoiler: turns human again.]]
* OnlyOneName: And technically, Rai is a nickname a priestess gave him. He claims he doesn't remember what his real name was.
* PreAssKickingOneLiner: ''"Get out of our temple."''
* PunchClockVillain: While Rai did choose to become Wuya's apprentice and is not without flaws, it's made pretty clear in the story that he never had any personal grudge against Dashi or his students and infact by the time he was finally turned to stone he was only staying with the Heylin side because he had to.
* SittingOnTheRoof: One of Rai's favourite places to go at the temple. Kimiko often goes there to join him herself.
* TalkingToThemself: Rai has multiple conversations with his thoughts throughout the course of the story. They're usually between himself, "clone Rai", and "young Rai".
* TearsOfJoy: [[spoiler: Rai first gets a taste of being human again when he steps into the sunlight and feels its warmth. When Kimiko arrives he pulls her into a hug with tears streaming down his face.]]
* RefugeInAudacity: Rai blatantly barges in on Kimiko while she's changing, points out which of her outfits suits her better, and walks away. Kimiko is startled but realizes she must be hallucinating, since Rai would never do something like that unless he had a death wish. Rai even [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] this.
--> "Ah, refuge in audacity. How I love thee."
* RousingSpeech: Of the menial variety. Rai helps Jack get back into his game by convincing him that he really is evil since he won't beat up someone as pathetic as the boy genius. When Jack is hyped up again, Rai proceeds to punch him out and deliver him to a hospital with a note saying that he was punched by "natural causes".
* RunningGag: Rai's psychotic sense of deadpan humor. And the mysterious thing with the emperor's daughter.
* SealedEvilInACan Discussed in the story by Rai and Master Monk Guan why so many of the great evils were locked away instead of outright destroyed.
* SerenadeYourLover / ThisSongGoesOutToTvTropes: Rai to Kimiko in the [[BigLippedAlligatorMoment BLAM]] chapter. With Rai-clones as a chorus.
* SeriousBusiness: Rai and the mysterious, yet deadly washing machine.
* ShipTease
* TheSleepless: Legends of Rai portray him as a being who can go without sleep. This is disproven when the Wudai Warriors find him trying to get some shut-eye in a broom closet.
* SorryToInterrupt
* ThatCameOutWrong: "Damanation woman! How much more must my body give before your sadistic urges are sated?!" "..." "Just for the record, that didn't come out right." "Noted."
* ThouShaltNotKill: The reason why there are so many SealedEvilInACan s' running around. Rai gets into an argument with Kimiko when he doesn't follow the Xiaolin moral code on a slippery con-man dragon.
* {{Tsundere}}: Kimiko, obviously. Has the most amusing reactions around Rai.
* WeWinBecauseYouDidnt: Master Fung attempts something similar to the "jade elephant" exercise with Rai, using a bowl of chocolate ice cream instead. Fung seems to win in the end, but the lesson backfires when Rai steals the entire tub of ice cream and runs off.
