3 | [=MicroProse=] is an American video game publisher and developer, founded by Wild Bill Stealey and Creator/SidMeier in 1982. A pioneer in many ''serious'' computer videogame genres, it specialized in SimulationGames, particularly the Combat Flight Simulator variety. A niched and yet powerhouse company in the early 90s, it was acquired by Hasbro in 1998 after a streak of financial troubles which started with a failed venture into 3D UsefulNotes/{{Arcade Game}}s. Creator/{{Atari}} (i.e.[[Creator/InfogramesEntertainmentSA Infogrames]]) shut down the last former [=MicroProse=] development studio in 2003, and sold off the remaining rights in 2007 to Interactive Game Group, of which it remained a subsidiary or brand name mostly dedicated to casual and console games. Creator/FiraxisGames retains the rights for many of its older titles. |

5 | In 2019, it became a games publisher once again after the brand was purchased and revived by David Lagettie, a fan of the classic studio who began to buy the IP of the old [=MicroProse=] with the help of [[https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2020-05-06-the-resurrection-of-microprose-and-return-of-wild-bill-stealey Wild Bill Stealey]]. It now focuses on publishing games, mostly indie titles, in style of the simulation and strategic games like what they're well known for. |

7 | Its classic legacy is most notably perpetuated in present day by the ''VideoGame/{{Civilization}}'', ''VideoGame/XCom'' and ''Tycoon'' franchises. |
