Polydor Records is a European record label with a long history. It was founded in 1913 in UsefulNotes/{{Germany}}, becoming popular in the late 1940s. A British branch, Polydor Records Ltd., was established in 1954, and an American branch was founded in 1969.

In 1972, it was reorganized into [=PolyGram=], which merged Polydor with Phonogram [[note]]corporate parent to the Creator/{{Philips|Records}}, Creator/{{Mercury|Records}}, Creator/{{Fontana|Records}} and Creator/{{Vertigo|Records}} labels[[/note]] and increased its influence on the rock and disco scene. Around the same time, it also acquired Creator/MGMRecords. However, Polydor's popularity began to wane in TheNineties. In 1998, [=PolyGram=] was purchased by [=SeaGram=], and later, Creator/UniversalMusicGroup. It was folded into the Creator/{{Interscope|Records}} Creator/{{Geffen|Records}} Creator/AAndMRecords umbrella, which it remains a part of today.

Polydor is responsible for distributing Interscope's releases in the United Kingdom, while Interscope Geffen A&M in turn distributes Polydor's releases in the US.
