10[[https://www.take2games.com Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc.]] (aka Take-Two, [=Take2=] or [=T2=]) is a video game holding company headquartered in UsefulNotes/NewYorkCity. Its two major publishing labels are Rockstar Games (best known for ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAuto'' and ''VideoGame/MaxPayne'') and 2K Games (with studios behind the ''VideoGame/BioShock'' series and ''VideoGame/{{Civilization}}''). Many of their games are skewed toward older teens and adult gamers, and the levels of violence in some of them have generated [[RatedMForMoney no shortage of controversy]] (including the attention of former attorney [[MoralGuardians Jack Thompson]], who has been the company's most visible and vocal critic ever since the release of ''GTA III'').

122K in particular is a great example of VindicatedByHistory. It is the successor to the Creator/{{Sega}} development studio Visual Concepts, which developed the insanely popular ''VideoGame/NBA2K'' series. One of the biggest games on the Platform/{{Dreamcast}}, it was one of Sega's first titles as a third-party developer, and eventually ''defeated [[Creator/ElectronicArts EA Sports]] in the basketball video game department''. Prior to their buyout of Visual Concepts (and the 2K series), Take-Two operated the Global Star Software label (which they acquired in 1999). By 2007, Global Star was folded into 2K Play after Take-Two announced a partnership with Creator/{{Nickelodeon}}.
13
14The company introduced an additional publishing label, Private Division, in late 2018, with the goal of bridging the gap between indie development teams and AAA publishers through its releases. Its first release was an UpdatedRerelease of indie darling ''VideoGame/KerbalSpaceProgram''.
15
16On January 10, 2022, Take-Two announced that they would acquire mobile game developer Zynga for $12.7 billion. This was the largest video game acquisition for all of one week, when Creator/{{Microsoft}} announced they would acquire Creator/ActivisionBlizzard for $68.7 billion. The acquisition was completed on May 28, 2022 with Zynga being absorbed into Take-Two and became a publishing label of [=T2=].
17
18On March 28th, 2024, Take-Two Interactive announced that it would acquire Gearbox Entertainment, the parent company of Creator/GearboxSoftware from Embracer Group for $460 million with the Gearbox studios becoming part of the 2K fold while gaining the IP rights to ''VideoGame/{{Borderlands}}'' (including ''VideoGame/TinyTinasWonderlands''), ''VideoGame/{{Homeworld}}'', ''VideoGame/RiskOfRain'', ''VideoGame/BrothersInArms'', and ''VideoGame/DukeNukem'' franchises in the deal with the acquisition expected to be completed by June 2024. Embracer will retain certain properties and studios as part of the deal.
