!The Powerpuff Girls
As depicted in the opening sequence of each episode, the Powerpuff Girls were created by Professor Utonium in an attempt to create the "perfect little girl" using a mixture of sugar, spice, and everything nice. However, [[FreakLabAccident he accidentally spilled Chemical X into the mixture]], granting the girls their superpowers.

[[folder:Both Series]]
* HundredPercentHeroismRating: They're universally beloved by the citizens of Townsville, with the various criminals and supervillains being the ''only'' ones who hate them. Even several of said villains ''respect'' the Girls, with it being considered a rite of passage for {{kaiju}} to attack Townsville and survive a bout with them.
* ActionGirl: They fight to the degree that it's a rite of passage for kaiju to get beaten by them.
* AllLovingHero: Arguably zigzagged at times, but the fact that the girls showed concern for [[VileVillainSaccharineShow Dick Hardly]] after he swallowed a whole bottle of Chemical X and then even after he tried to lethally drain them of the rest of their supply of said chemical and enslave their father/creator shows how good-hearted they are even to their most despicable adversaries, to say nothing of those more obviously worthy of their affection.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: At first in the movie. Also, in "Town And Out" when they move into Citiesville, until they decide to move back to Townsville.
* AlphabeticalThemeNaming: All 3 girls (plus Bullet, Bunny, and Bliss) have names that start with a B and have double consonants. Notably, Princess's name starts with a P and her double consonant is at the end instead of the middle of her name; she's the only Powerpuff-esque character never to be acknowledged as part of the team or kept Chemical X powers. Lampshaded in the movie where the Professor reveals that the reason why he named Buttercup that name is because it starts with a B.
* {{Animesque}}: Their art style.
* ArtificialHumans: Created in a lab. Also leads to an in-universe case of the UncannyValley, since the girls' eyes, hands (or lack thereof), and proportions are often mentioned as being creepy and strange to the people they meet. The reporter in TheMovie actually calls them "little bug-eyed freaks".
* BadassAdorable: They take down Godzilla-sized monsters on a daily basis, and a member of their regular rogues gallery is the universe's resident SatanicArchetype. They're in kindergarten.
* BadassFamily: Especially so in "Powerprof", when the professor himself gets in on the action using PoweredArmor.
* BarbieDollAnatomy: When naked whilst bathing in "Down N' Dirty" and "Princess Buttercup", they aren't depicted with nipples, though that's probably for the better, considering that this is a children's show.
* BarrierMaiden: "Speed Demon" shows a BadFuture about what would happen if they stopped being around to go after Him. Saying that Townsville becomes a CrapsackWorld is a massive {{Understatement}}.
* BeautyBrainsAndBrawn: Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup, respectively. Bubbles, being known as the "sweetest and cutest" one, is the beauty. Blossom, being the most intelligent of the group is the brains, while Buttercup being known as "the toughest fighter" serves as the brawn. Best exemplified in the ending theme:
-->''Blossom, commander and the leader. Bubbles, she is the joy and the laughter. Buttercup, she is the toughest fighter. Powerpuffs save the day!''
* BerserkButton:
** Due to their age, they can be a bit naïve at times, and easy to trick. That being said, it's not a very good idea to deceive them. Once they find out the truth, it turns into a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown.
** In "Candy Is Dandy", stealing candy from them is a huge button.
** Calling them [[AccidentalMisnaming "Powderpuff" Girls]] is usually another way to set them off.
* BlondeBrunetteRedhead: Bubbles is the blonde, Buttercup is the brunette, and Blossom is the redhead.
* BloodlessCarnage: Flatten them with any type of giant rock? They'll come out completely unharmed.
* BrattyHalfPint: Though they're rather cheerful, the girls can sometimes become this when they want things to go their way. Exaggerated in ''The Powerpuff Girls Rule''.
* ButtMonkey: All three of them can be this together if a plot demands it. Even when a plot doesn't demand it, they are this in their own ways, such as Buttercup getting less respect from others and being run out of town [[DisproportionateRetribution just because she didn't want to take a bath]], Blossom in the 2016 series getting her pride threatened a lot, and Bubbles getting teased by Buttercup.
* ChromaticArrangement: Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup are pink, blue, and green.
* CainAndAbel: Age inverted, but the collective Abels to the Rowdyruff Boys' Cains, since Mojo causing their accidental creation technically means Mojo is their creator along with Professor Utonium.
* TheChewToy: All three of them can be put through humiliation, slapstick, or injuries if a plot demands it. "Town and Out" and "Sun Scream" are pretty good examples of this.
* ColorCodedCharacters: Blossom's color is pink, Bubbles's color is blue, and Buttercup's color is green.
* ColorfulContrails: The girls tend to leave a brightly colored trail when they fly.
* CompetitiveBalance: In most video games Blossom is JackOfAllStats, Bubbles is faster but weaker, and Buttercup is [[MightyGlacier slower but stronger]]. This is occasionally alluded to in the show, such as Bubbles doing the speed test and Buttercup the strength test when they wanted to join the Justice Friends. But all of their powers are roughly equal depending on who's trying the hardest. Bubbles has been shown to outfight Buttercup and Buttercup has won races between the three.
* DaddysGirl: All three, especially Bubbles.
* DependingOnTheWriter: It constantly varies how innocent and naïve the girls are in each episode, as they are sometimes rather knowledgeable in spite of being kindergartners and other times act their age when they aren't fighting crime. One example that shows both sides is the episode ''Child Fearing'', where they act childish while watching Blarney the Singing Sea Serpent and afterwards correct Mojo Jojo's historically inaccurate story about Napoleon Bonaparte.
* DestructiveSaviour: The girls often play this role for Townsville especially in "Uh Oh Dynamo". {{Deconstructed}} in "Town and Out" when they go to a more realistic setting and in TheMovie.
* DubNameChange: In a lot of the foreign dubs (save for German and Japanese):
** In the French dub, they are Belle (Blossom), Bulle (Bubbles), and Rebelle (Buttercup).
** In the Italian dub, they are Lolly (Blossom), Dolly (Bubbles), and Molly (Buttercup).
** In the Castilian Spanish dub, they are Pétalo (Blossom), Burbuja (Bubbles), and Cactus (Buttercup).
** In the Latin Spanish dub, they are Bombón (Blossom), Burbuja (Bubbles), and Bellota (Buttercup).
** In the Brazilian Portuguese dub, they are Florzinha (Blossom), Lindinha (Bubbles), and Docinho (Buttercup).
** In the European Portuguese dub, they are Florzinha (Blossom), Bonitinha (Bubbles), and Manteiguinha (Buttercup).
** In the Polish dub, they are Bójka (Blossom), Bajka (Bubbles), and Brawurka (Buttercup).
** In the Norwegian dub, they are Blomst (Blossom), Boble (Bubbles), and Belle (Buttercup).
** In the Danish dub, they are Blomst (Blossom), Bobbel (Bubbles), and Bellis (Buttercup).
** In the Swedish dub, they are Blomman (Blossom), Bubblan (Bubbles), and Buttran (Buttercup).
** In the Finnish dub, they are Papu (Blossom), Pipa (Bubbles), and Poppana (Buttercup).
* EarnYourHappyEnding: In the movie, after spending most of the movie being treated as outcasts, they save the city and finally win the people of Townsville’s love and acceptance.
* ExtremelyProtectiveChild: Anyone who threatens the Professor risks feeling their wrath.
* EyeBeams: They can fire beams from their eyes.
* FighterMageThief:
** Buttercup, as the physically strongest of the trio, is the Fighter.
** Blossom, with her smarts and her ice powers, is the Mage.
** Bubbles, with her cute charms and the ability to speak any language and communicate with animals, is the Thief.
* FingerlessHands: The former TropeNamer. Lampshaded when they accidentally switch bodies with the Professor, Mayor, and Miss Bellum: Buttercup (as the Professor) attempts to pick up the hotline by basically karate-chopping the air next to it, complaining that "your hand doesn't work!" when this accomplishes nothing. However, there are a few episodes out there that subvert this -- Blossom does a finger-snap in "Powerpuff Bluff" after figuring out who the impostor Powerpuffs are, and there is one episode that shows that the girls are able to play rock-paper-scissors with each other.
* FlyingBrick: They are able to fly and very difficult to harm.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Blossom is Responsible while Bubbles and Buttercup are Foolish. Blossom is tame and thinks before she acts, while Bubbles is ditzy and Buttercup is reckless and naughty.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: The four main characters:
** Bubbles (sanguine), hyperactive, ditzy, and "the joy and the laughter".
** Buttercup (choleric), short-tempered, rebellious, and "the toughest fighter".
** Blossom (melancholic), the intellectual, mature, and responsible "commander and the leader".
** Professor Utonium (phlegmatic), the girls' level-headed and easygoing father figure.
* FreudianTrio: Blossom (Superego--she is obsessed with rules and the most likely to respect authority figures simply for having authority), Bubbles (Ego--kind and sweet mediator often swayed by either Buttercup or Blossom), Buttercup (Id--Short-tempered and impulsive to the point of being destructive)
* FriendlyEnemy: The Powerpuff Girls are very friendly to everyone, even their own enemies.
* GooGooGodlike: Three 5-year-olds who stop crime and beat up monsters on a daily basis.
* GoodIsNotSoft: The three are generally sweet and easy to get along with, even getting along with their various RoguesGallery when said rogues aren't causing trouble... but their general approach to crime-fighting amounts to giving the crooks a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown and then throwing them in jail. The show has even come under criticism because of how brutal the girls can get.
* TheHecateSisters: Blossom is the Mother, being the mature, practical, and responsible leader who has to keep her sisters from going overboard. Bubbles is the Maiden, having the most carefree, youthful, and innocent attitude of the three. Buttercup is the Crone, acting as a brash, grumpy, and sardonic but nevertheless loyal follower to Blossom.
* HeroAntagonist: Girls can be this when a villain has to be the protagonist of an episode.
* HeroInsurance: Quite a lot of the fights cause major damage, but never have any consequences for it. The girls ''do'', however, try their best to save and/or clear out innocent civilians. This is Deconstructed when they move to a more realistic town and are chewed out for destroying a popular city bridge to stop two bank robbers.
* {{Invincible Hero}}ines: In general, the Girls almost constantly plow through any opposition, whether it be other supers, giant robots, or {{Kaiju}}. There are rare times, however, when they've been defeated or their RoguesGallery actually made them work for a victory.
* JerkassBall: The Powerpuffs are generally sweet little girls, who care about everyone and everything, sometimes even their own enemies, but still they are not spared from having these moments sometimes.
** In "Equal Fights" when the girls allow themselves to be manipulated and influenced by Femme Fatale, The Powerpuff Girls start acting like Jerks to any boy or man for minor things and false reasons, which they consider "Misogynistic", but when Miss Keane, Miss Bellum and three other women they make them see the error of their views, and that they should not mistrust the males, they begin to feel remorse for their actions.
** In "Candy is Dandy" The girls become addicted to candy, they lead Mojo Jojo into committing crimes while they receive the candy for the day, and when they find out Mojo stole it, they do things like yell at the mayor and go to jail until they hit Mojo to the point of taking him to the brink of death, and it is in this that The Girls regain consciousness and now repentant they apologize to the mayor and for everything they have done.
* KidHero: They are physically five years old and temporally about one year old.
* LightningBruiser: They are {{Pint Sized Powerhouse}}s who also have the power of SuperSpeed.
* {{Little Miss Badass}}es: Of course, they are young girls who kick a lot of bad guy butt.
* MeaningfulName: The movie gives the reason for their names:
** Blossom is the most direct and open of the three and was the first one to speak.
** Bubbles is the "cute and bubbly one".
** Subverted with Buttercup. The Professor named her that because it [[AlphabeticalThemeNaming also begins with a B]], much to her dissatisfaction. (To be fair, buttercups are toxic flowers, so the name is fitting).
* MsViceGirl: All three of them have this in some way, shape, or form. Sometimes they are more weaknesses than vices, however.
** Blossom is nonetheless heroic and an altruist, though is very egotistical at times, and in the reboot, is [[TerrifiedOfGerms deathly scared of]] anything dirty.
** Bubbles is the nicest of the girls, and her vice is how naïve and trusting she is, which gets her in trouble in "Octi Evil" and "All Chalked Up". In "Helter Shelter", she is revealed to be an animal hoarder. And as of the reboot; she is shown to have quite a temper. Also in the reboot, she is impulsive, as shown in "Horn Sweet Horn".
** Buttercup is a [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold brash tomboy with a heart of gold]], but she is [[BloodKnight violent]], and [[HairTriggerTemper gets pissed off at rather small things]]. She's also shown to be ''extremely'' reckless in some episodes.
* NewPowersAsThePlotDemands: They seem to get new powers out of nowhere with each episode, from infiltrating the dreams of others, to creating afterimages of themselves, to ''self-destructing''. Then the new series gives them the power to project astral weaponry around them based on their interests and personalities.
* NiceMeanAndInbetween: Bubbles (nice), Buttercup (mean), Blossom (in-between). This is shown perfectly with Buttercup usually arguing with Blossom, and Bubbles being the nicest out of the trio all the time.
* NobodyPoops:
** The girls never are shown having potty breaks in the original series. Averted in "Reeking Havoc" when everyone in Townsville (including the Powerpuffs) get bad gas. The Professor mentions in "Powerprof" that Bubbles has a bedwetting problem. And in "Crazy Mixed Up Puffs", Buttercup farts. In "Pee Pee G's" the girls wake up in a wet bed.
** Averted as of the 2016 series, since in "Blue Ribbon Blues" Buttercup mistook Blossom's agitated behavior for needing to go to the bathroom, and in "The Last Donnycorn", Bubbles had a brief PottyEmergency.
* NoNavelNovelBirth: Due to them being created in a lab rather than being born naturally, they aren't depicted with belly buttons.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Most characters have relatively normal proportions. The girls, on the other hand, have enormous heads, tiny bodies, and fingerless arms. It's even lampshaded in an episode where Buttercup, [[ItMakesSenseInContext in the professor's body]], tried to use the phone without grabbing it.
* NotAllowedToGrowUp: Both Him and Mojo Jojo have mentioned the girls have been fighting crime for years, but they haven't gotten any older.
* TheNoseless: Almost every character in this series has a nose except for the girls. Seems to be because they're {{artificial human}}s. Subverted on occasion like in "Reeking Havoc" where they are shown to be able to sniff things, and are frequently drawn with nostrils in the reboot DependingOnTheArtist.
* OnlyOneName: The girls technically have last names, due to being Professor Utonium's daughters, but this is only acknowledged two or three times.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Best illustrated in TheMovie, where the girls play a game of tag and very nearly destroy the whole city, since they had only recently been born and [[DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength didn't know to limit their powers yet]].
* PintSizedKid: They are 5-year-old girls and they are pint sized.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: They are small, but they can lift a ton of weight, plus they face down villains, monsters, and what's basically ''Satan'' on a regular basis.
* PuppyDogEyes: All three of them [[http://theppgs.wikia.com/wiki/File:Puppy_eyes!.png do this]] at one point in "The Powerpuff Girls Rule!"
* PowerTrio: They are a trio of girls who have unique superpowers.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Their eyes go red when using their laser vision.
* RedOniBlueOni: Blossom is the blue to Bubbles's and Buttercup's red. Blossom is level-headed and less emotional while Buttercup is short-tempered and reckless, and while Bubbles is hyper and exuberant.
* SameSexTriplets: The girls are sisters who are the same age, having all been "born" on the same day. Unlike most examples they aren't identical, having completely different hair and eye colors.
* ShipTease: Despite being arch-enemies, the "City of Clipsville" shows the girls (having turned into teenagers) having crushes on the now teenage Rowdyruff Boys and pairing up with their respective counterparts. This was made in response to fan requests that wanted the PPG/RRB pairings in the show.
* SiblingTeam: The Powerpuff Girls are sisters who work together to save the day before bedtime.
* SiblingRivalry: The girls frequently argue, but in the end, [[AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther they always make up and have each other's backs]].
* SiblingYinYang: All three of them are completely different and contrast one another:
** Buttercup and Bubbles. The former is brash and rough, whereas the latter is sweet and friendly.
** Blossom and Buttercup. The former is responsible, uses her brains and usually thinks before acting. The latter is an impulsive hedonist who relies on her brawn and jumps straight into action without thinking.
** Blossom and Bubbles. The former is level-headed, wise and composed. The latter is more emotional, paranoid and ditzy.
* SmashSisters: Working together, the girls beat up the bad guys.
* StrongAsTheyNeedToBe:
** One episode will have them proving themselves to adult heroes as the mightiest supers in their universe, and another will have all three girls get beaten down by a gang of ordinary thugs. One time an overweight nerd was able to trap them in toy packaging. SERIOUSLY?!
** In the [[WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls2016 soft reboot of the show]] an entire episode is about Bubbles dealing with a broken arm (apparently) due to a bunch of rubble falling onto her.
* SuperDeformed: They have oversized heads, [[TheNoseless no noses]] and [[FingerlessHands no fingers]].
* SuperSpeed: They can move very swiftly.
* ATasteOfDefeat: Despite their InvincibleHero status, there have been odd times where the Girls have had to work for a victory or been defeated outright. Highlights include "Mr. Mojo's Rising" and their first fight with [[EvilCounterpart the Rowdyruff Boys]]. The most crushing defeats they suffered, however, were both times their RoguesGallery teamed up against them in "Meet the Beat-Alls" (where they got so badly beaten over and over they briefly gave up fighting the four-villain team until they found a way to break them apart) and "See Me Feel Me Gnomey" (where all their major enemies besides the Rowdyruff Boys join forces and beat them bad enough to willingly surrender their powers to the Gnome so he'd be rid of the villains for them) both times pushing them well into hopelessness or the DespairEventHorizon.
* TheTeam: Blossom is commander and the leader, acting as a headstrong, mastermind type {{Leader}}, a book smart, strategist variety of TheSmartGuy. Bubbles is the 'joy and the laughter' and generally a cutie variant of TheHeart Buttercup is the 'toughest fighter' and is both TheLancer to Blossom's leadership, and TheBigGuy as her designation implies.
* {{Telepathy}}: To a degree -- they have the ability to enter and share each other's dreams.
* ThickerThanWater: They argue frequently, but when it comes right down to the point they do care for each other.
* TownGirls: Bubbles is the Femme, Buttercup is the Butch, Blossom is Neither.
* TragicHero: They have a quite tragic and sympathetic origin, In "The Powerpuff Girls Movie" when the girls were just created/born they accidentally destroyed the city playing tag, which caused all the citizens of Townsville to hate and shun them, so the girls got depressed and wanted to get the trust of the city, and in the end by stopping Mojo Jojo's evil plans, the city finally accepted them, and the girls became happy and decided to fight crime in the city of Townsville.
* UnskilledButStrong: The girls usually tend to win most encounters due to their [[FlyingBrick sheer strength]] compared to most villains. This gets [[InternalDeconstruction deconstructed]] a few times when they have to face someone actually on their level (usually the Rowdyruff Boys), in that the girls unfamiliarity with fighting someone who can match them blow for blow usually results in their defeat.
* VolumetricMouth: They are drawn with mouths as big as their faces whenever they cry or scream, ala Charlie Brown and the rest of the ''ComicStrip/{{Peanuts}}'' characters.
* YouGoGirl: Always saving the day.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: They were born the age they are, so they're actually (in the series) probably less than a year old, as they started kindergarten shortly after being created.

[[folder:Original Series]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ppg2.png]]
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: At first in the movie. Also, in "Town And Out" when they move into Citiesville, until they decide to move back to Townsville.
* ArchEnemy: Mojo Jojo. He's their rival, and the most recurring villain. He also came close to defeating them more than any other villains. Also the Rowdyruff Boys, their evil counterparts.
* BadassPacifist:
** The girls are only able to defeat the Rowdyruff Boys in nonviolent ways (kissing them, emasculating them, and outsmarting them). They never defeat the boys with physical combat. Subverted in "Bubble Boy" when they defeated Boomer in a fight by ganging up on him three-to-one.
** In the two instances in which Princess obtains superpowers ("Mo-Job" and "Twas the Fight Before Christmas"), the girls end up defeating her nonviolently.
** In "Bought and Scold", the girls are able to defeat Princess by simply exploiting a loophole in her decree (when she becomes Mayor of Townsville).
** In the episode "Three Girls and a Monster," Bubbles gets rid of the MonsterOfTheWeek by simply asking it to leave.
* BalloonBelly: The girls and the Mayor eat the whole candy jar and get full, big bellies in the episode "Candy is Dandy".
* BareMidriffsAreFeminine: As teenagers, they all wear crop tops in "The City of Clipsville".
* CainAndAbel: The Abel to Mojo Jojo's Cain. They are also the Abel to the Rowdyruff Boys' Cain, though they're technically created directly and indirectly, respectively.
* DirtyCoward: In "Cootie Gras", they flee various times in the fear and Paranoia of getting cooties from Harry Pitt, which Mojo Jojo uses to his advantage to succeed in his crimes.
* DivergentCharacterEvolution: In the original "Whoopass Stew" pilot and the two ''What a Cartoon!'' pilots, the girls lacked individual personalities and all acted the same. The actual series changed this by making Blossom the intelligent leader, Bubbles the cutesy and naïve one, and Buttercup the aggressive tomboy.
* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: They were this at first during TheMovie; simply playing a game of tag causes them to nearly destroy the entire city.
* LethallyStupid: They act like this in the Movie. While playing tag, they accidentally cause ''massive'' damage to the school and Townsville, which causes them to get shunned and hated, [[spoiler: until the ending that is.]]
* LittleBigSister: When they create a fourth Powerpuff Girl named Bunny in "Twisted Sister", Bunny is noticeably taller and bulkier than them.
* OcularGushers: [[EverybodyCries They all cry like this]] in "City Of Frownsville" after this was invoked onto them by Lou Gubrious's Miseray.
* PayEvilUntoEvil: In the episode "Gettin' Twiggy with It," when [[TheBully Mitch Mitchelson]] is allowed to take Twiggy, the class pet hamster, home for the weekend only to cruelly torture her; this leads to Twiggy getting mutated by radioactive waste after Mitch flushes her down the toilet, after which she promptly goes after Mitch for revenge. Having known that he would mistreat Twiggy and personally been there when he flushed her, the girls are so disgusted with Mitch that they're fully prepared to just let Twiggy eat him, even catching him and trying to personally ''[[ThrowEmToTheWolves throw]]'' [[ThrowEmToTheWolves him to her]]. When Mitch begs them for mercy, however, they opt instead to place him in a giant hamster wheel and have Twiggy chase him in an endless cycle.
* SweetTooth: They gain obsessions for candy in "Candy Is Dandy", but they get over it in the end.
* UngratefulBastard: After Big Billy saved them in "Slave The Day", they ''still'' beat him up and sent him to jail.
* ValleyGirl: They behave like this as teenagers in "City Of Clipsville".
[[/folder]]

!!Blossom
->'''Voiced by''': Creator/CathyCavadini (1995-2014), Creator/AmandaLeighton (2016-present)

Blossom is the redhead in the pink outfit and signature red bow. She's the "smart one" and the leader of the team, although at times she can be bossy or over-analytical, and represents "everything nice". Her unique ability, introduced in the episode "Ice Sore", is [[AnIcePerson ice breath]].
----
[[folder:Both Series]]
* AdaptationalDumbass:
** Downplayed in the 2016 reboot. She is still "the smart one" but her WiseBeyondTheirYears and ChildProdigy traits are downplayed. She's not nearly TheLeader she was before and she doesn't understand certain things, such as her thinking colts are young horses and fillies are "horses with attitude".
** Played straight in the anime adaptation ''Anime/PowerpuffGirlsZ'', where she's portrayed as the archetypical MagicalGirl heroine, so she has a completely different personality and is TheDitz along with Bubbles.
* AdorablyPrecociousChild: A 5-year-old who is extremely intelligent for her age.
* AttentionWhore:
** In "Fashion Forward", she disobeyed the Professor's orders to not wear "Smojhis" just so she could get attention and respect from the community.
** In "A Star Is Blossom", Blossom locks Bubbles in a closet to get the lead role of a play. Bubbles lampshades it herself.
* BadassBookworm: The most knowledge-oriented sibling of this crime fighting trio.
* BerserkButton:
** Don't mess with her hair.
** In the reboot, the mere existence of dirt is this to her.
** If things aren't as organized as she wants them to be, you'd better watch her temper.
** Do NOT call her "disorganized". Silico learned that one the hard way.
** In the comic "Bow Jest" messing with her bow will not end well for you.
** Also in "Bow Jest", it's shown that making fun of how dependent she is on her bow will make her snap.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She is protective, kind, and a good leader, but still good at beating up villains. She also yelled at Big Billy in "Slave The Day" when [[RageBreakingPoint she reaches the limit to her patience with him]].
* BigEgoHiddenDepths: Blossom acts pretty egotistical at times, but episodes such as "Power Noia", and "Power-Up Puff" suggest she has insecurities deep down.
* BigSisterInstinct: Looks out for both Bubbles and Buttercup, and is protective of them.
* BigSisterMentor: Gives good advice and is smarter than both of her sisters.
* BreakTheCutie: On an occasional basis, and it tends to cross over with BreakTheHaughty.
** In "Not So Awesome Blossom", when she thinks she's failed the group.
** In "The Mane Event", wherein she gets [[TraumaticHaircut a sucky haircut]] and becomes a laughingstock.
** In "Power Up Puff", where she feels unimportant compared to her sisters when they get the power to make energy constructs before she does.
* BreakTheHaughty: She tends to make sure that everyone knows how capable she is to a point where much of her problems become this.
* BreathWeapon: The only Girl with [[AnIcePerson ice]] breath.
* CharacterTics: Pulling her bow[[note]]or anything she's wearing as a hat[[/note]] down under her head when she's distressed.
* ChildProdigy: Her main character trait is being a gifted student, well above her grade level, although she continues to attend kindergarten like her sisters.
* ControlFreak: While she is the leader of the group, she can be bossier than usual.
* CoolBigSis: Although technically they are all exactly the same age, she behaves this way to Buttercup and Bubbles.
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: Looks out for the short-tempered Buttercup and the goofy Bubbles.
* CuteBookworm: Naturally, she is an adorable little girl that always strives to do well academically.
* DaddysGirl: Just like her sisters, she is very close to her father-figure, the Professor.
* {{Determinator}}: She sure is persistent. However, she will give up if absolutely necessary.
* DirtyCoward:
** Mainly averted, but played straight when she stole golf clubs in "A Very Special Blossom", and was so afraid of getting in trouble she tried (and failed) to pin the blame on Mojo Jojo.
** Played straight again in "Little Octi Lost" on the 2016 show. In that episode she was willing to flee from fighting Packrat due to her [[NeatFreak hatred of dirt]][[note]]Packrat's lair was at the city dump[[/note]] and leaves her sisters to fight Packrat on her own. Subverted, as thankfully she does eventually help.
* DrillSergeantNasty: Downplayed. She tends to shout orders at the other girls in battle, but she’s not mean about it.
* ExpressiveAccessory: Her bow tends to show her emotions, drooping when she's sad, tired, annoyed, deep in thought, or nervous. [[http://s2.dmcdn.net/UQrK_/1280x720-40t.jpg Here]] [[http://powerpuffgirls.wikia.com/wiki/File:12963426_1581323025493198_6078832937102595856_n.jpg are]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfZTyXrSzRo some]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxKxiAo-wrE examples.]]
* FieryRedhead: She refers to herself as this in one of the interview promos for TheMovie, though she doesn't actually have much of the temperament compared to Buttercup. Although in the reboot, she is shown to get a bit more easily agitated.
* GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak: Blossom isn't as girly as [[GirlyGirl Bubbles]], but she's into fashion, tends to be [[VanityIsFeminine pretty vain]], and has the most feminine appearance out of the girls: a [[PinkIsFeminine pink dress]], a big bow on the top of her head, and her red hair is [[LongHairIsFeminine longest]] out of all the girls, with Blossom being ''very'' [[ProudBeauty proud]] of said hair. She's also a GirlyBruiser who kicks a lot of butt.
* GoGetterGirl: "Power-Noia" reveals that she's rocking a major complex of an excellent student.
* GrinOfAudacity: Her smiles tend to range between this and a normal smile.
* {{Hypocrite}}: She usually calls Buttercup out for picking on Bubbles, but ironically, [[SiblingRivalry she is very quick to argue with Buttercup]], and sometimes teases Bubbles for being babyish herself.
* IconicItem: "Beauty, brains, and one serious hairbow." You rarely see her without it.
* InsufferableGenius: At times, Blossom thinks her ideas are the best because she's the most intelligent.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Justified since she's only 5. She dips into this behavior, sometimes; in her version of events in "The Bare Facts", the story is solely centered around her, and she only grudgingly adds, "Oh, Buttercup and Bubbles were there too, I guess," when they protest this. Bubbles calls her out on it in "A Star Is Blossom".
-->'''Bubbles''': The point is, you only care about yourself. [[AttentionWhore You're always in the spotlight]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: [[DownplayedTrope Definitely not quite to Buttercup's level on the "jerk" part,]] but is prone to boasting about her position as the leader of the trio and on occasions can fuss if things don't go her way, but she's also a polite, friendly, and loyal person who strives to do the right thing and never lets the needs of her loved ones out of her sight.
* TheLeader: Specifically referred to as such in the theme song, a levelheaded variant that forms attack strategies for her sisters and gives orders in combat.
* LikeParentLikeChild: Out of the three girls, she is the one's who's personality is closest to the Professor. They are both very intelligent, educated, and try to use logic to solve most of their problems.
* LongHairIsFeminine: She’s girlier than Buttercup, and has the longest hair of the trio.
* MeaningfulName: Named by the Professor for being the first girl to open up (like a flower) to him when they were created.
* NerdyNasalness: In both the original series and especially the reboot, she has a slightly nasally voice compared to her sisters, and she's the smart and analytical leader of the trio.
* NeverBareheaded: You could easily count the times she was shown without her bow on one hand.[[note]]The times when she wore other sorts of headgear don't count[[/note]] In other episodes, she wears other sorts of headgear, such as a fedora, a Mojo Jojo helmet, a Smoojhi bow, and other things. In the comic "Bow Jest" she is shown to ''not'' like it when it isn't on her head, and later Mojo Jojo points out how odd it is to see Blossom without her bow.
* NeverMyFault: It is implied she may have not felt completely at fault for stealing golf clubs to give to the Professor in "A Very Special Blossom".
-->'''Blossom''': That's what drove me to crime!
* NiceGirl: Despite her [[InsufferableGenius flaws]], she is a generally good person who only wants to do the right thing. She also usually tends to be nicer than [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Buttercup]].
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Continuing on from HonorBeforeReason above, Blossom decides to stop the Ministry of Pain by convincing [[OldSuperhero Captain Righteous and Lefty]], their equally elderly archenemies, to come out of retirement to do the job for the Girls. All five elders end up hospitalized as a result, and the news [[LampshadeHanging outright states that had the Powerpuff Girls simply stepped in and saved the day, the entire mess could have avoided]].
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: The only one of the Girls with an unnatural eye color (if you don't count Bunny from "Twisted Sister"), and has ''much'' longer hair than them. She is also the only Powerpuff Girl with hair decorations up until the reboot, when Bubbles got visible hair bands.
* NotSoAboveItAll: She's been prone to doing some pretty underhanded things.
** Blossom joined in on the Team Tantrum that her sisters did in "Dance Pantsed" in order to get a video game.
** She blew her stack at Big Billy in "Slave The Day".
** Blossom stole golf equipment in "A Very Special Blossom" and [[DirtyCoward was willing to blame it on Mojo Jojo if it meant not getting into trouble]].
** She [[DirtyCoward fled for her life and ditched her sisters]] while trying to beat a monster because of everyone laughing at her [[TraumaticHaircut crappy haircut]] in "The Mane Event".
** In "Candy Is Dandy", she, along with the rest of her sisters, willingly asked Mojo Mojo to do crimes so they could be given candy as a reward when they would defeat him.
** Was fine with spilling Professor's secrets in "Secret Swapper of Doom".
** She, of all people, was actually the ''first'' to go against the Professor's orders in "Fashion Forward".
* OnlySaneWoman: Out of the three girls, Blossom serves as the voice of reason because of her intelligence. However, she is [[NotSoAboveItAll not so above it all]].
* ThePerfectionist: Blossom sometimes thinks that she has to be perfect, which led to her losing her confidence in "Not So Awesome Blossom."
* PinkHeroine: Blossom is the unofficial leader of the group and sports a pink dress as well as having pink eyes.
* PinkMeansFeminine: Her eyes and dress are pink, and she acts feminine.
* {{Pride}}: Blossom takes great pride in her intelligence and role as team leader. She can also be pretty vain, especially when it comes to her hair. However, she can usually back up her claims and boasts with all the stuff she and her sisters pull off.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: You know something is up if she doesn't act like the prideful person she normally behaves like.
* RedIsHeroic: Blossom is a redhead and she's a heroine. She wears a red bow, too.
* TheSmartGirl: The smartest of the girls, notably doing the best in school.
* SmugSuper: Blossom knows how tough she can be, and she carries this attitude.
* TheSpock: Less emotional than either Buttercup or Bubbles, but this isn't saying much.
* StrawFeminist: In spite of her and her sisters calling Femme Fatale out on her hypocrisy and misandry in "Equal Fights", Blossom is depicted as having misandrist views in "The Powerpuff Girls Rule", where her idea for a perfect world involves women being in charge of everything and men only being allowed to stay at home and do housework.
* ToBeLawfulOrGood: As the most self-consciously 'heroic' and patriotic of the girls, she has a very rigid attitude towards civics, government, and the law of the land. This moral code often sets her up in no-win situations, such as:
** When Princess legalized all crime, Blossom refused to let her sisters stop bad guys because it would technically be breaking the law.
** She refused to fight the Ministry of Pain on the grounds that they were very old and that American culture stresses the need to respect your elders.
** When Mojo exploited an animal rights' group for protection from the girls, Blossom reluctantly left on the grounds that he was protected under the law.
* TomboyishPonytail: Blossom is a strong and tough crime-fighter, the hair on the back of her head is held by a heart-shaped hairclip, forming an orange ponytail.
* TranquilFury: On a few occasions, but most notably in her first fight with Princess after the latter beats up her sisters.
* TroubledFetalPosition:
** Briefly sports one in "The Mane Event" after getting laughed at.
** Goes into this position in "Painbow", after everyone else in her class got A-pluses on their dioramas, even those people who barely did anything.
** Goes into this pose in TheMovie while on an asteroid with her sisters.
* VocalDissonance: In both the original and reboot, she sounds more like a teenager or young adult than a kindergarten-age girl.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes:
** As seen in "Power-Noia", she is afraid of underachievement.
** In the reboot, she is scared of going into dirty environments. Well, dirt in general is a phobia of hers.
** She claims to be afraid of trampolines in "Secret Swapper Of Doom".
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: She's easily the most mature and level-headed of her sisters, which makes her a strong role model and ideal leader.

[[quoteright:252:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blossom_3.png]]
[[caption-width-right:252:Commander and the Leader]]
* ArchEnemy: Mojo Jojo for his focus on intelligence, similar to her, and Brick of the Rowdyruff Boys for being her evil counterpart.
* CaptainGeographic: Her alternate identity in "Super Zeroes" - Liberty Belle. She's a [[WearingAFlagOnYourHead flag-dressed]] cross between Franchise/WonderWoman and [[WesternAnimation/DextersLaboratory Major Glory]] and drives a [[{{Eagleland}} Freedommobile]].
* HeroBall: Her obsession with civic duty and following the law will sometimes bite her in the ass, like when she refused to fight a trio of elderly supervillains in "Fallen Arches".
* HeroicBSOD: In TheMovie during the girl's DarkestHour. Also, she has this in "Not So Awesome Blossom" when she loses her self-confidence.
* HonorBeforeReason: In "Fallen Arches," she refuses to let her sisters fight the Ministry of Pain, despite their current crime spree, because they need to respect their elders.
* HumiliationConga: Suffers this at the very end of "A Made Up Story". She slips on a mud puddle, trips onto a can of red paint, crashes into a bag of flour, and then trips in a bag of Styrofoam.
* HypocriticalHumor: From "Collect Her", when her sisters are accusing each other of taking each other's things:
-->'''Blossom''': Geez, is that all you two do, is blame one another for everything? All right, which one of you took my hair clip?!
* KickTheDog:
** She yells at Big Billy in "Slave The Day" when he was trying to be nice to the girls, while Bubbles and Buttercup seemed to enjoy having him around.
** During an argument with Buttercup in "Octi-Evil", she shoots Buttercup with her laser vision.
** Framing Mojo Jojo for something ''she'' did in "A Very Special Blossom".
* LaserGuidedKarma: In "A Very Special Blossom", Blossom steals a very expensive set of golf clubs as a gift for the Professor, and ends up outing herself in her desperate attempt to frame Mojo when the Professor is accused of the theft. Despite her remorse for her crime, the police still hold her accountable for her crime and she is ordered to do community service, all while receiving the scorn of her sisters for having lied about her actions.
* LettingHerHairDown:
** In "The Mane Event", she lets her hair down when she wakes up.
** Does this again in "Forced Kin" when she takes her bow and hair clip off.
* LetsGetDangerous: After spending most of "Not So Awesome Blossom" [[HeroicBSOD in a state of shock]], she finally comes to her senses and saves Professor.
* MomentOfWeakness: In the episode [[Recap/ThePowerpuffGirlsS2E7AVerySpecialBlossomDaylightSavings A Very Special Blossom]], The Professor unintentionally puts pressure on his daughters to get him the set of limited-edition Pro Excellence 2000 series golf clubs on Father's Day. While cleaning up the aftermath of a battle with Mojo Jojo, Blossom sees the clubs through a broken window in a store, Blossom actually resorts to stealing so that she could make the Professor happy. She pays the consequences of her actions when the Professor is arrested for having a stolen item, and when she tries to frame Mojo for stealing them before she is forced to confess. She has to pay for her crime by doing community service.
* PreAsskickingOneLiner: Right before beating up Mojo Jojo in "Candy Is Dandy":
-->'''Blossom''': You're a ''bad'' monkey, Mojo.
* ProudBeauty: In "The Mane Event", she’s shown to be very proud of her luxurious hair. In the end of "A Made Up Story" she also brags that she has “natural beauty”.
* RageBreakingPoint: In "Slave The Day". She spends most of the episode trying to maintain patience with Big Billy, but crosses this when he accidentally destroys the buildings.
* TheRunaway: She runs away from home in "Not So Awesome Blossom" when she thinks she has failed at being a leader.
* ShipTease: Despite being enemies as little kids, "The City of Clipsville" has a teenage Blossom having feelings for a teenage Brick, who feels the same way.
* TemporarilyAVillain: In "A Very Special Blossom" when she steals golf clubs in order to make the Professor happy. It doesn't end well for her, as she had to do community service hours.
* TraumaticHaircut: Suffers this in "The Mane Event", and ends up getting laughed at by all of Townsville because of it.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: In "A Very Special Blossom," she commits the crime of stealing the expensive golf clubs because she wanted to make the Professor happy. She also went as far as to lying about finding the clubs and attempting to frame Mojo. Unfortunately, stealing is still a crime, and Blossom still has to face up to the consequences of her actions.
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: The premise of "A Very Special Blossom" and an exploration of Blossom's more [[NeverMyFault unsavory]] instincts.

->'''Voiced by''': Creator/KathSoucie (''WesternAnimation/WhatACartoon'' shorts), Creator/TaraStrong (1998-2014), Kristen Li (2016-present), Creator/HollyHunter (singing voice in "Tiara Trouble")

Bubbles is the one in the blue outfit with the blonde hair and pigtails. As the "sugar", she's the most childish, naïve, timid and paranoid of the three, but also the most gentle, caring, and playful. She's a FriendToAllLivingThings, and she has the unique ability to [[{{Omniglot}} talk to animals and speak any language]].
----
[[folder:Both Series]]
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: Although all three Girls are the exact same age, she sometimes annoys Blossom and/or Buttercup with her ditzy behavior, albeit [[InnocentlyInsensitive unintentionally]].
* AxCrazy:
** As "Hardcore Bubbles" in the original.
** She is [[CuteAndPsycho adorable but psychopathic]] in the reboot.
* TheBabyOfTheBunch: Although all three members of the trio were made at the same time, Bubbles is treated as the youngest sibling, because of how naïve and innocent she is. [[BerserkButton But don't call her this]].
* BadassAdorable: Just as strong as her sisters, and also the cutest. She's the type that collects stuffed animals and can talk to squirrels.
* BerserkButton:
** Don't underestimate her.
** As Buttercup[[note]] In the 2016 series episode "Little Octi Lost"[[/note]] and the rest of the people at the party at her house[[note]] In the episode "Octi Gone"[[/note]] learned the hard way, never lose, mess with, or in any way threaten Octi, otherwise ''she will be pissed''. Usually she'll just cry if Octi is lost, but other times she'll lose her temper.
** In the short "Run Blossom Run", she doesn't take kindly to being woken up abruptly.
** In "Meat Fuzzy Lumpkins", she is shown to react violently if her hair is ruined to the point of giving the titular character a savage beating before [[DisproportionateRetribution using his own meat gun to turn him into meat and feeding him to the Mayor of Townsville at a cookout]].
* BewareTheNiceOnes: While she's the nicest and most childish of the three, she also has a very, ''very'' long fuse[[note]]Well, as of the reboot, [[HairTriggerTemper her fuse is much shorter]][[/note]], but if she gets angry, she's more devastating than Blossom or even Buttercup.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: She is quite the ditz at times, but is as tough as her sisters. Just watch "Bubblevicious" if you really wanna know what we mean.
* BigSisterWorship: In the reboot, she is revealed to think of Buttercup as her mentor in "Splitsville."
* BlueIsHeroic: She wears a blue dress and is the kindest of the trio.
* BreakTheCutie: More often than the other two girls. It's usually Him who tries to do this to her.
* ButtMonkey: She tends to be Buttercup's favorite target of pranks, and gets put through slapstick and ridicule from others in most episodes centered on her.
** In "Bubblevision", she is made fun of for her glasses.
** In "Moral Decay", Bubbles gets slapped around and injured by Buttercup several times.
** In "City of Nutsville", Bubbles is teased a lot for wearing a cone around her neck.
** In "Bubbles of the Opera", she gets a bad school photo, gets a TraumaticHaircut, suffers an allergic reaction to a makeup kit, and has her face smashed through the window by being flung into the ceiling fan.
* CheerfulChild: Pretty much the poster girl for this trope. Bubbles is described as "the joy and the laughter" in the end credits theme song.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Oftentimes she's in her own little world.
* CuteButCacophonic: She normally has a very cute voice, but she tends to shriek when frustrated or excited. Plus, she can do a super-scream.
-->"HEEEEEE'S MAKING NEW POWERPUFF GIRRRRLS!!!"
* CuteAndPsycho: Bubbles reveals this side of her in "Bubblevicious", and beats the snot out of others for minor things, and manages to ''defeat a bunch of monsters on her own during a simulation test''. Shows shades of this in the reboot too, as she has a [[HairTriggerTemper bigger temper]], and has a tendency to switch between innocent and demonic.
* CutenessProximity: Bubbles cannot help acting all sweet around cute little animals.
* TheCutie: Her innocent personality and her cheerful ways perceive her as this.
* CompanionCube: She can often get very attached to her stuffed animals, Octi in particular. This bites her in "Octi-Evil" when it gets possessed by HIM and starts actually giving her advice.
* CowardlyLion: Downplayed on "cowardly", but she is easily scared and a bit paranoid, plus there were two separate episodes centering on her getting over her fears.
* DaddysGirl: Out of all the girls, Bubbles is the closest to the Professor.
* DorkKnight: Bubbles is a superhero who is shy, sweet, and nerdy.
* TheDitz: The least intelligent of the girls. [[SmarterThanYouLook Or so it seems]].
* DumbassHasAPoint: No matter how much of a ditz she can be, she does have a point in a lot of the stuff that she says.
** Whenever she calls out Buttercup for being mean, she's almost always correct.
** She also will call Buttercup "stupid" on occasions. It may be a tad insensitive, but she does have a point -- jumping into things without thinking ''is'' something that Buttercup does on a daily basis.
** She thinks that Kitty in "Cat Man Do" was the villain, and her sisters just brush her off until [[TheCuckoolanderWasRight it's revealed this actually was true]].
* DumbBlonde: Not dumb, per se - in Him Diddle Riddle, she scored a 1075 on the SAT whereas Blossom and Buttercup scored a 10 and a 25 respectively - but a bit ditzy. Observe!
--> '''Mojo Jojo''' ''(letter voiceover)'': Dear Powerpuff Girls,
---> I have kidnapped Professor Utonium! [[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment I have taken him someplace against his will. If you look for him in the spots he likes to be, you will not find him! He is with me, but not by choice. I took him, and he didn't like it!]]
---> This message is from [[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment and was written by]] Mojo Jojo.
--> '''Bubbles''': [[ComicallyMissingThePoint Who could've done this?]]
** There was also one episode where the Mayor called the Powerpuff hotline during a monster attack, only for Bubbles to answer, "Hi! Bye!" [[RuleOfThree three times]], with Blossom and Buttercup both glaring at her in the background.
* EvilIsHammy:
** Her "Hardcore Bubbles" persona in "Bubblevicious" gives off vibes of this.
** Her "Dark Bubbles" self in "Bubbles Of The Opera" makes a bombastic narration of how darkness inhabits her and later introduces herself in a show-stopping way.
* ExpressiveHair:
** Her pigtails droop when she's nervous, sad or tired, and they flick upwards when she's surprised or excited. TheMovie is a good example to watch if you want to see her having expressive hair a few times.
** Her pigtails turn into the shape of Blossom's hair bow in "Splitsville".
* ExtremeOmnivore: Buttercup mentions that Bubbles has a habit of eating crayons in "Little Miss Interprets". Additionally, the episode "Odd Bubbles Out" of the 2016 series has a gag about her eating hay.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Bubbles has the ability to talk to and communicate with animals.
* FunPersonified: Bubbles is an adorable CheerfulChild who likes playing with her toys, drawing pictures frequently, and generally having a lot of joy, even when she has to fight crime with her sisters.
* GeniusDitz: She can be ''very'' ditzy at times. However, as mentioned below, she is an {{Omniglot}} and SuddenlyFluentInGibberish, and scored a 1075 on the SAT, which (despite being impossible) is pretty good for a kindergartener.
* GenkiGirl: Bubbles is easily the most excitable of the three. It makes sense considering her element is sugar, a chemical that makes you hyper if you have too much of it.
* GirlishPigtails: The "joy and the laughter" of the group, so she sports the bounciest hair style.
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: She loves her stuffed Octi. In "Summer Bummer", she brings numerous stuffed animals with her on a trip to the beach and states, "I only brought the essential ones...which is all of them!" when Blossom razzes her about it.
* GirlyBruiser: Bubbles is girly (into stuffed animals and dolls) and she kicks a lot of ass.
* GratuitousSpanish: Due to one of her special powers being the ability to speak Spanish.
** In "Members Only", she says "Mucho Muchacho es muy guapo!"[[note]]"Mucho Muchacho is very handsome!"[[/note]]
** Does this in "Nuthin Special" while asking a Spanish squirrel what his problem was.
** In "Ice Sore" she says "Si."[[note]]"Yes."[[/note]] when the professor points out that her special ability is speaking Spanish.
** Shouts "NO ME GUSTA!"[[note]]"I DON'T LIKE IT!"[[/note]] in "Tiara Trouble", when she doesn't want to help her sisters strike down the possessed Princess Morbucks.
** In "The Stayover", she yells [[BlindIdiotTranslation what she says]] [[BilingualBackfire means]] [[NonSequitur "He forgot his keys"]] Spanish whilst watching a bullfight.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She has blonde hair and is known for being the kindest out of the trio.
* HairTriggerTemper:
** In the original show, but not to the same extent as Buttercup. Sometimes, she can get very angry when provoked. However, you'll have to work extra hard to do so, but you ''don't'' want to do that.
** Played straight in the reboot. She sometimes bursts into random bouts of anger for no reason other than comedy at times.
* TheHeart: Always strives to keep the peace between her sisters whenever they start fighting. She's also the most feminine and cutest of the trio.
* HeavySleeper: She takes a bit longer to wake up than her sisters.
* HeliumSpeech: While not pitch-shifted, her voice in the original series is ''very'' high-pitched and squeaky. In the reboot her voice is a bit deeper and not as squeaky, but it's still quite high-pitched.
* HumbleHero: Bubbles is the humblest of the trio and is the one who helps people the most.
** In the "Bubbles' interview" The Narrator asks her how it feels to be the cute one of the three girls, but Bubbles doesn't think she's the cute one and that she knows a lot of cute people, her sisters, the mayor, even mojo.
* TheHyena: Laughs a lot; [[MeaningfulName this is why she was named "Bubbles" (for her bubbly personality)]].
* IconicItem: Octi, her purple stuffed octopus.
* IdiotBall: If a plot demands it. Sometimes even if a plot doesn't require it, she still gets this.
** In "Mr Mojo's Rising" after reading Mojo Jojo's [[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment repetitive]] ransom note, she asks "Who could have done this?"
** In "Man Up 2", as possibly a [[CallBack call back]] to "Mr Mojo's Rising", right next to her there's a sign saying that Manboy committed a crime, but she kept saying "Who could have done this? Who? Who? I guess this case is unsolvable."
** In "Presidential Punchout" she believes Princess's BlatantLies video slandering Blossom.
** In "Little Octi Lost", she cost her kickball team the winning of the game because ''she tried to have her plush toy Octi grab it.''
* IdiotHero: The least intelligent of the girls but the most altruistic and nicest.
* IdiotHoudini: Sometimes Bubbles gets away with her more immoral actions despite being the nicest of the trio. Either that, or something goes right for her when she used poor judgement for it.
** In "Neighbor Hood", she gets away with stealing money to donate to her favorite show. This is very odd considering that there was a previous episode that had a moral ''against'' this when Blossom did something similar to what Bubbles did, but unlike the latter, Blossom ended up getting punished at the end.
** In "Him Diddle Riddle" she scored the highest of her sisters on a test by ''drawing on it.''
** During "Bubblevicious", she gets away with [[DisproportionateRetribution beating up people for minor reasons]].
* InnocentBlueEyes: Her blue eyes represent her youth and innocence. She's known as the sweetest, cutest, and nicest of the trio, and her element is sugar.
* InkSuitActor:
** It may have been unintentional, but she shares her original VA [[Creator/TaraStrong Tara Strong's]] blonde hair. They even have the same personality!
** Another possible coincidence, but her voice actress in the reboot, Kristen Li, does like to put her hair in pigtails like Bubbles, and Bubbles shares some of her interests and character traits.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Sometimes, Bubbles is too childish to notice her behavior can be considered strange or annoying- take her constant singing in "Mime for Change", which was obviously annoying Buttercup and Bubbles only stopped when the bus did.
* InelegantBlubbering:
** In "All Chalked Up", when Buttercup destroys the chalk, Bubbles' crying is realistic sounding.
** After she gets a bad school photo in "Bubbles Of The Opera", she does this, and is shown with a wrinkly face.
** In "Odd Bubbles Out", she does this after her argument with Donny, complete with bloodshot eyes.
** Did this again in "Little Miss Interprets" after she thought the professor wanted to replace her and her sisters.
* JerkassBall: Even she has had her episodes where she acts more annoying than normal.
** In "Bubblevicious, [[DisproportionateRetribution she takes her aggression too far and starts to beat people to a pulp for things like]] [[FelonyMisdemeanor ''littering'']], until her sisters stop her.
** In "Just Another Maniac Mojo", where she mocked Buttercup for throwing the ball into Mojo's window, and repeatively tried to break Mojo's property, even after he told her NOT to Touch anything. For an unknown reason, she acted ''really'' annoying in that episode.
** In "The Mane Event", she laughed at Blossom’s horrible haircut, which is made even worse by the fact that the terrible haircut was Bubbles and Buttercup’s fault.
** She gets this in some episodes of the reboot too.
* KidAppealCharacter: She had a few elements of this trope like acting more childish than her sisters.
* TheKirk: Whenever Blossom (brains) clashes with Buttercup (brawn). She does have some shades of TheMcCoy by being the most emotional and sensitive of the girls, but even then she still comes off as the middle ground between her sisters.
* KindheartedSimpleton: Downplated on "simpleton", but she is quite childish and ditzy, and the kindest of the trio too.
* LargeHam: Some of her GenkiGirl moments come off as this, particularly when ranting about the lack of color in "Mime For A Change". Also has the widest facial range of her sisters in the reboot.
* LetsGetDangerous: She is immature and goofy most of the time but she gets ''serious'' when it comes to crime-fighting.
* MadnessMantra: Gets one in "Shut the Pup Up", after Talking Dog apparently insulted her:
-->'''Bubbles''': [[[TroubledFetalPosition in fetal position]], head bobbing back and forth] I'm not a chubby crybaby, I'm not a chubby crybaby, I'm not a chubby crybaby....
* MakeMeWannaShout: The Super-sonic Scream.
* MeaningfulName: Named by the Professor for her "[[TheHyena bubbly]] [[ThePollyanna personality]]".
* NerdGlasses: Briefly gets these in "Bubblevision", but she ends up giving them up at the end of the episode.
* NiceGirl: As seen in InnocentBlueEyes and HairOfGoldHeartOfGold. Her kindness is significantly downplayed in the reboot, but it still pops up from time to time.
* NobodyTouchesTheHair: Beats up Fuzzy in "Meat Fuzzy Lumpkins" for turning her pigtail into a chicken leg.
* TheNoseKnows: [[FridgeLogic Despite not]] [[TheNoseless being depicted with a nose]], she is revealed to be able to tell what ingredients food has by its smell in "Reeking Havoc".
* TheMcCoy: The most immature, emotional, and sensitive of the Girls.
* OcularGushers: Cute crybaby Bubbles tended to do this in early seasons.
* OddNameOut: She's the only one of the three not named after a flower.
* {{Omniglot}}: A power unique to Bubbles who is seen speaking Spanish, reading and speaking Japanese, and can also [[SpeaksFluentAnimal communicate with squirrels and other animals]].
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
** If she isn't acting like the frequently happy character she is, things are not well.
** If Bubbles [[BewareTheNiceOnes actually gets angry]], something really bad has happened.
%%* PerpetualSmiler: Comes with being ThePollyanna.
* PingPongNaivete: Her overall intelligence varies [[DependingOnTheWriter depending on the episode]]. In some episodes, she'll be TheDitz, other times she'll be of average intelligence, while other times she'll be a GeniusDitz.
* PluckyComicRelief: As the ending theme song states that she is "the joy and the laughter".
* ThePollyanna: She's the most optimistic and idealistic of the girls.
* PrimalFear: Afraid of the dark.
* ProneToTears: She's still a kick-ass superhero, but she's almost always the first of the three to get emotional, which irritates Buttercup no end.
* SanitySlippage:
** Slowly goes more and more insane as "Bubblevicious" goes on as she attempts to show everyone she's tougher than she seems.
** Goes crazy in "Bubbles Of The Opera" as she gets less pretty.
** She loses her sanity when Octi gets missing in "Octi Gone".
* SmarterThanYouLook: She is essentially the show's ditzy blonde. "Him Diddle Riddle" twists this on its ear as Him makes the girls take their UsefulNotes/SATs as part of a series of tasks to save the Professor. Buttercup scores a 35, Blossom a 10, and Bubbles—whose test was patterned out as a flower—scored 1075. Series head writer Amy Rogers points this out as proof that Bubbles is the smartest Powerpuff.
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: She can speak to squirrels and cats.
* SuddenlyFluentInGibberish: Former TropeNamer, for Talks To Squirrels. Bubbles uses this to her advantage sometimes.
* SurrogateSoliloquy: With Octi.
* StupidGood: Again, she's more naïve than ''stupid'' (she's only five, after all), but she does have a tendency to be easily fooled and has been tricked by Him twice. Granted, the latter was disguised.
* TenderTears: Bubbles isn't afraid to openly weep when things get really bad. Bubbles tends to cry over other people's misfortunes, such as crying when her sisters were arguing in "Best Rainy Day Adventure Ever" and "Octi Evil". She broke down when KARR revealed his sad backstory as well. Bubbles even got teary eyed when she saw an injured squirrel once.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Girly Girl to Buttercup's Tomboy. Bubbles likes to play with stuffed animals and dollies, making her girly, whereas Buttercup is more interested in things which are usually associated with guys.
* TrueBlueFemininity: She wears blue and is the most girly of the trio.
* {{Tsundere}}: The Sweet type (Type B). Bubbles is nice, but [[BewareTheNiceOnes don't get her angry]].
* VirtuousVegetarianism: Bubbles is the most innocent of the three girls by a fair margin, and [[DependingOnTheWriter is written as a vegetarian in some episodes]]. However, this portrayal isn't always consistent, as other episodes have her eating meat.
* WideEyedIdealist: Obviously, her default personally has her being very sweet in front of others ([[BewareTheNiceOnes unless if they're serious threats]]). Also applies to her rather literally.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes:
** Has an intense fear of roaches.
** [[PrimalFear Is afraid of the dark]].

[[quoteright:252:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bubbles_4.png]]
[[caption-width-right:252:The Joy and the Laughter]]
* AchievementsInIgnorance: She scored 1075 on a test in "Him Diddle Riddle" simply by drawing on it.
* ActressAllusion: When Femme Fatale challenges the Powerpuff Girls to name some memorable superheroines, Bubbles mentions ComicBook/{{Supergirl}} and ComicBook/{{Batgirl}}. Bubbles's voice actress, Creator/TaraStrong, voiced Batgirl in ''[[WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries The New Batman Adventures]]'' some time earlier.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: A [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]] example, but it's hinted at one point that she might have a crush on Boomer, since she called him "cute" and was the most eager of the girls to kiss her counterpart.
--->'''Blossom''': ''[Referring to the boys]'' Let's give ‘em some sugar.
--->'''Bubbles''': ''[In excitement]'' OOH! OOH! I WANT THE BLONDE! I THINK HE'S CUTE!
* ArchEnemy: Boomer of the Rowdyruff Boys for being her evil counterpart, and HIM, because, as the most evil being in the show, he is particularly interested in [[BreakTheCutie breaking her innocence ]] (such as in "Oct-Evil").
* BigNo: In "Mime For A Change", when she realizes that her sisters got turned to lifeless statues, and when she drops the crayons to the ground.
* BlatantLies: In "Collect Her" she argues with Buttercup when she accuses Bubbles of taking her meat punching bag and she claims she's a vegetarian, when she is shown to eat meat such as a Sloppy Joe from "Oops I Did It Again" and Chilly from "Reeking Havoc".
* BreathWeapon: In the 2014 special, Bubbles is the one with ice breath.
* CharacterDevelopment: Compare her in season 1 to herself by the final season. At some point she grows a backbone, especially in regards to her sisters' teasing (case in point, she would cry very easily in the early seasons when she got teased. By season 5 she was [[DeadpanSnarker fighting back]]).
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: In the later seasons of the show, she is flanderized into this, and sometimes acts like she's "out of it."
* TheCuckoolanderWasRight: She assumes that Kitty in "Cat Man Do" was evil when he acts suspicious, and it turns out he was evil the whole time.
* {{Cuckoosnarker}}: She could be surprisingly snarky and caustic at times, such as in the episode "Crazy Mixed Up Puffs", where, while being fused together with Blossom and Buttercup, the former attempts to unfuse them by doing a maneuver that results in them falling down. When Blossom asks if everyone's alright, Bubbles responds, "Well, other than my left eye being smashed up against your head, and my left ear ruptured, ''suuure''".
* TheDreaded: In "Bubblevicious", where she managed to traumatize Mojo Jojo.
* DisguisedInDrag: In "Bubble Boy" she was disguised as Boomer.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Her ''very first line'' (in the movie, but it takes place before the series, so it's her first line chronologically) was a giggling sound, which led to her being named "Bubbles", due to her bubbly characteristics.
* FluffyTamer: In "Three Girls and a Monster" when she's able to tame the monster.
* GrowlingGut: She suffered this in "Reeking Havoc" as a result of eating the Professor's chili spiked with Chemical X.
--->'''Bubbles''': ''[stomach gurgles]'' Uhhh, Professor's chili sure is [[Franchise/WinnieThePooh rumbly in my tumbly]].
* {{Hypocrite}}: She makes fun of Buttercup's blanket despite having her own emotional crutch in the form of Octi.
* KarmaHoudini: She gets no punishments for brutally beating up innocent civilians in 'Bubblevicious'. The closest thing she gets to a comeuppance is getting captured by Mojo Mojo, but that's about it.
* KickTheDog: Beat up innocent citizens in "Bubblevicious".
* LeadDrummer: During the song "Love Makes the World Go 'Round" in "Mime for a Change", Bubbles is both the drummer and main vocalist among the girls.
* PubescentBraces: She has visible braces when she briefly shows her teeth as a teenager in "The City of Clipsville."
* PunctuatedForEmphasis: '''''I'M HARDCORE NOW!!!!'''''
* SandInMyEyes: In her interview of the movie, she claims [[BlatantLies that she never cries]] (while she says this, it [[ImplausibleDeniability instantly cuts to a scene in the movie with her crying]]) and "only gets something in her eye". The Narrator calls her bluff and tells her that the townspeople once called them bug-eyed freaks, which causes her to cry, only for her to also say she has something in her eye again.
* ShipTease: Surprisingly with Boomer. A rather small, insignificant one perhaps, but she's the only Powerpuff who has ever shown something else other than disdain by this bit:
--> '''Blossom''': Alright girls. I think we know what we have to do. [[GirlsHaveCooties Let's give 'em some sugar]]!
--> '''Bubbles''': [eagerly] Ooh, ooh, I want the blond! I think he's cute!
--> '''Buttercup''': Man, you're weird!
** It helps that her still-shot for when she kisses Boomer has her basically hug him towards her while looking happy in comparison to her sisters' distance (they avoid all contact with the exception of the lips to their cheeks) and distaste.
* SpeechImpediment: Spoke with a lisp in "Moral Decay" because of having lost one of her front teeth.
* TalkingTheMonsterToDeath: Okay, not really. After Blossom and Buttercup fail to land a single hit in "Three Girls And A Monster", Bubbles kindly asks the monster to leave Townsville. ''It works.''
* TemporarilyAVillain: In "Bubbles Of The Opera", she joins forces with Mojo Mojo when she thinks she isn't cute anymore.
* TookALevelInBadass:
** "Bubblevicious". She starts the episode dealing with training in level 2, and ends up not only taking level eleven on the simulator but also in Mojo's laser beam (right before beating the snot out of him)
** There's "Los Dos Mojos", where after getting hit by a brick, she becomes Mojo Jojo, and openly defeats both Buttercup and Blossom at once.
* TroubledFetalPosition: In "Shut The Pup Up", accompanied by her [[MadnessMantra mantra of insanity]] of "I'm not a chubby crybaby."
* TheUnintelligible: Both [[InvokedTrope Invoked]] and [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] in "City Of Nutsville", where she lost her ability to speak temporarily, thanks to a bee having stung her throat.
* VocalEvolution: Bubbles' voice noticably gets louder and squeakier in Seasons 5 and 6.
* YoureCuteWhenYoureAngry: In "Bubblevicious", Bubbles is revealed to hate it when nobody takes her seriously when she's mad because of how cute she is.
-->'''Professor''': She's so cute when she's all pouty like that.

!!Buttercup
->'''Voiced by''': Creator/ElizabethDaily (1995-2014), Natalie Palamides (2016-present)

Buttercup has the green outfit and black hair. She's a tomboy, and the most aggressive and confrontational of the girls, representing spice. She has gained a reputation among the bad guys of Townsville as the most vicious of the trio, always ready to brawl. Unlike her sisters, she doesn't have a unique ability (to her chagrin).
----
[[folder:Both Series]]
* AscendedFanon: After her special power was revealed to [[WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway be able to curl her tongue]], fans have instead portrayed her as being the physically strongest sister. The series seems to have adapted this, showing her being able to lift things more easily than her sisters.%%invoked
* AddedAlliterativeAppeal: "So we have Blossom, Bubbles, and, hmmm, Buttercup because... it also begins with a B." Makes it 10x sadder when you see her [[DeathGlare instant]] reaction.
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: All three Girls were born at the same exact time, but she sometimes acts as this for Blossom because of her recklessness and how she sometimes teases her.
* AloofBigSister: None of the girls are older or younger than each other, but Buttercup is rather cold, particularly to Bubbles.
%%* AloofDarkHairedGirl: Her hair is black and she acts a bit coldly.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys:
** She spends "Buttercrush" attracted to Ace, of the Gangreen Gang.
** In the 2016 reboot, of The Sensitive Thugz band, she likes Dax, "the tough boy".
* AntiHero: Mainly a PragmaticHero in the original series, though occasionally is an UnscrupulousHero. In the reboot series, however, she is an UnscrupulousHero, with the occasion of being a NominalHero.
* ApologizesALot: In "Moral Decay" she repeatedly apologizes to Bubbles for knocking her tooth out and has trouble stopping.
* ArchEnemy: Butch of the Rowdyruff Boys for being her evil counterpart, and the Ganggreen Gang, since green is also their trademark color and having similar attitude problems.
* AxCrazy: Shows shades of it on occasion in the both the original series and reboot, taking sadistic pleasure in beating up people. And in "In The Garden Of Good And Eddie", she had a [[http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/powerpuff/images/4/4e/Vlcsnap-2016-09-28-02h06m47s636.png/revision/latest?cb=20160927184449 imagination sequence of squashing vegetables]].
* BadassArmFold: Her default position appears to be with her arms folded.
* TheBerserker: Eventually gets some much-needed professional help with her anger-management issues in "Makes Zen To Me" and "Man Up". Both times [[StatusQuoIsGod she went back to her perpetually-irritable self]].
* BerserkButton:
** As Man Boy learned the hard way in "Man Up", '''''don't''''' call her Princess.
** She will lose it if demeaned in any way.
** On a related note, don't call her cute.
** She does not like it if any mention of her former feelings for Ace is brought up.
** Buttercup also dislikes it if anyone assumes she is afraid.
** Don't lie to her or use her for your own selfish purposes. Just ask Ace of the Gangreen Gang.
* BigEater: Played with. It does not pop up much, but she has mentioned being hungry more often than the other two, and whenever she is seen eating onscreen, she eats very ravenously. Examples include "Super Friends", "Makes Zen To Me", and "Princess Buttercup". In one of the 2016 comic books she also eats a lot of smores.
* BigEgoHiddenDepths: Not as big of an ego as Blossom's but still has an inflated opinion of her fighting power. She is implied on certain episodes to not be really feel highly about herself and that all she wants is just to get as much attention as her sisters do.
* TheBigGal: She's the toughest out of the three and has the most brute strength. She can easily floor a room full of villains and has the most power to give in their fights.
* BigSisterBully: Buttercup sometimes veers into this territory towards Bubbles, like destroying her chalk in "All Chalked Up," but she shows many times that she cares for Bubbles. [[InnocentlyInsensitive Occasionally, Buttercup merely teases her sisters a bit and sometimes, but she doesn't intend to make them feel bad]]/ This is much more prominent in the reboot where she's a bully a lot of the time.
* BigSisterInstinct: Despite her teasing of Bubbles and bickering with Blossom, do not hurt her sisters in front of her. Ever. The Gangreen Gang and The Rowdyruff Boys learned this the hard way.
* BookDumb: She is street-smart, but she's not very good at math and other schoolwork.
* BoyishShortHair: The [[BloodKnight violent]] tomboy of the group with a bob-cut.
* BloodKnight: Buttercup is always excited when she's getting ready to fight, to the point of refusing to take a bath in "Down N Dirty" because she would rather fight evil monsters instead.
* BrattyHalfPint: Buttercup is quite sharp-tongued and rude.
* BrilliantButLazy: As seen in HiddenDepths, she is street-smart and quick-witted. Unfortunately, she doesn't dedicate the effort she puts in attacking villains the way into her schoolwork.
* BrutalHonesty: Buttercup tends not to mince words. If she has something to say, she'll say it, like when she told the Amoeba Boys what she (and everyone really) truly thinks of them.
* BruiserWithASoftCenter: Despite being the more violent prone, she can be a pretty sweet girl when she feels like it.
* TheBully: Drops into this occasionally, most notably with Elmer Sglue, going so far as to chuck a gluey popsicle stick project in his face. She does eventually apologize to him though.
* ButtMonkey: More like "Buttercup Monkey". It's subtle, but if you pay close attention, Buttercup gets less respect and often gets the biggest amount of injuries, embarrassment or just something bad happening to her in general of the trio.
** In "Down And Dirty", she is doused with a septic tank, gets kicked out of the house, and is chased by citizens with pitchforks.
** In "Nuthin' Special", she spends the entire episode attempting to find her special power, only to get overshadowed by her sisters and to find that she doesn't have a unique power [[spoiler:if you don't count tongue-curling, that is.]]
** In "A Made Up Story", in the midst of her sisters' attempts to get the makeup that Mask Scars put on her face, she gets smacked on the head with a hose, sprayed in the face with it and thrown against a wall in the process, her face gets frozen by Blossom's ice breath, and gets her ears hurt by Bubbles's sonic scream.
** In "Cover Up", her blanket gets lost ''twice'', and receives a huge pummeling from a monster.
* ClassClown: In "Painbow", she is disruptive in class and cracks jokes at Ms. Keane's expense.
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: Plays this role when Bubbles and sometimes Blossom overreact to something outside their control, understanding, and sanity. Especially in the 2016 reboot, Buttercup seems to watch her sisters go overboard and express her snark towards them doing anything nonsensical.
* TheChewToy: How much bad luck she suffers is often self-inflicted due to how cynical and rude she is. Subverted, as she's viewed by many fans to be one of the most sympathetic characters on the show.
* CompressedVice:
** In the WhatDoTheyFearEpisode Bubbles's fear is [[PrimalFear the dark]], Blossom's is [[HiddenDepths underachieving]] and Buttercup's is... [[OutOfCharacterMoment spiders]]. Despite the fact that she's been handling bug-themed villains as far back as episode 1!
** Her greediness in "Moral Decay" when she knocks people's teeth out for money can be this. Before that episode, she never exhibited an [[MoneyFetish obsession for money]].
* CoolBigSis: Although all three sisters are the exact same age due to being created at the same time, Buttercup often behaves as one to Bubbles, or even to Blossom on occasion.
* CuteBruiser: Although Buttercup would hate to be called "cute," she can kick serious ass.
* TheCynic: The most jaded and streetwise of the three. She gets called out on for it in "Down And Dirty" and "Man Up".
* DarkIsNotEvil: She has black hair and is a hero despite her rough and destructive attitude.
* DeadpanSnarker: Buttercup has some snarky oneliners at her disposal, especially in the reboot.
* {{Determinator}}: This is shown very well in the episode "The Boys Are Back In Town" when she refuses to give up against the boys, even though she and her sisters were obviously outmatched.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: Buttercup is not fond of tofu.
* TheDreaded: Most villains aren't exactly happy to see her. Out of the three, Buttercup is the most brutal in fights.
* DumbMuscle: Downplayed greatly. She's the toughest of the three, but also BookDumb. That said, she's normally less ditzy than Bubbles.
* TheEveryman: Out of all the girls who represent the cartoon addiction of girl power and stereotypes, Buttercup is by far the most normal and realistic of her sisters, and acts the most like a general real life kid compared to the others who are both are more ideal, innocent and cute, though they have childish moments as well.
* EveryoneHasStandards:
** Buttercup was ''shocked'' when Bubbles gave a censored ClusterFBomb to Eddie in "In The Garden Of Good And Eddie".
** She thought she went too far with how much she beat up Fuzzy in "Makes Zen To Me".
** In "Poorbucks", even Buttercup thought that making Blossom cry was too low, even for her.
** She was disgusted when Blossom disobeyed the Professor in "Fashion Forward".
** Even she was disgusted by [[ShakingTheRump twerking]] in "Painbow".
** She was shown to be disturbed at Lenny Baxter's Powerpuff collection in "Collect Her".
-->'''Buttercup''': Ugh...this is seven kinds of ''creepy!''
* ExpertInUnderwaterBasketWeaving: One episode has Buttercup figuring out her unique ability among the girls (like how Blossom has Ice Breath and Bubbles is fluent in Spanish). Buttercup's happens to be curling her tongue, which, despite not being as practical as the other two, she seems fine with.
* ExpressiveHair:
** While scaring Bubbles in "Boogie Frights", the sides of her hair point upwards like [[SatanicArchetype devil horns]].
** When she was scared in "Professor Proofed", her hair got all frizzy.
* FatalFlaw: Seems to have an inability to apologize, which may have something to do with {{Pride}}.
* FreudianExcuse: Heroic example; it's implied the reason she's a cynical jerk is because she lacks a MeaningfulName and feels unnoticed compared to her sisters.
* {{Gasshole}}: Downplayed, but is implied to be this. For example, she farts in the episode "Crazy Mixed Up Puffs", and belches frequently in the 2016 show. She also releases atomic flatulence in "Deb O'Nair" using her burrito fart and Bubbles' laser vision.
* GenkiGirl: Zigzagged. Buttercup is normally sour, the least cheerful out of the girls, and the first to see the negative in things. However, she can get rather excitable when faced up against something she likes the idea of, particularly in "Moral Decay" when she gets given a piece of money by the Professor. She ''relishes'' the idea of earning more every time she fights a villain, which unfortunately leads to her [[TemporarilyAVillain playing a more villainous role than usual]].
* GoodIsNotNice: Fights crime and evil like her sisters, but is the rudest and most violent.
* GreenAndMean: A good-side variant. Buttercup is by no means a villain, but she wears green (plus she has green eyes) and is the most aggressive of the three.
* GrinOfAudacity: A frequent facial expression of hers, particularly in instances when her sisters are showing normal smiles and she isn't. Her smiles are usually this, a smug grin or a PsychoticSmirk.
* HairTriggerTemper: Buttercup has quite a temper and it's not that hard to make her angry.
* HotBlooded: Buttercup can also get pumped, especially when it involves fighting.
* {{Hypocrite}}:
** She mocks Bubbles for having plush toys even though Buttercup is revealed to have something similar in the form of a SecurityBlanket in "Cover Up".
** Complains about Bluebelle's singing various times in "Once Upon A Townsville", although she goes into a rap later on shortly after stating her dislike of singing.
* HypocriticalHeartwarming: Sure, she can be a bully to Bubbles and she can be a jerk to Blossom sometimes, [[BerserkButton but she doesn't tolerate]] ''anyone else'' acting like that towards them.
* IdiotHair: Has a noticeable cowlick in the reboot.
* IJustWantToBeSpecial:
** An episode was dedicated to Buttercup being unhappy that she didn't have a unique power like her sisters. Although her special power is to [[spoiler: curl her tongue]], she was established in "Speed Demon" to be ''slightly'' faster then her sisters, and she's generally considered the physically strongest of the three.
** In TheMovie when the Professor named them, Blossom and Bubbles both got [[MeaningfulName meaningful names]]; Buttercup waited excitedly for hers, but he named her Buttercup simply because "it also begins with a B."
* JerkassHasAPoint: Buttercup's rude and abrasive nature frequently gets on the nerves of her sisters and loved ones, but there are times when she isn't in the wrong for it:
** In "Geshundfight", she yells at the Amoeba Boys, denouncing them as "the lousiest, most pathetic criminals ever to walk the street", and forces them out of Townsville forever. [[NiceJobBreakingItHero This turned out to be a poorly thought-out move on her part]], as the Amoeba Boys were eventually able to get rid of the problem while also being responsible for starting it, but Buttercup was 100% correct about them being awful at what they do.
** She complains about all the responsibilities that come with looking after a cat in "Cat Man Do". It's not something that her sisters would have taken kindly, but it's true that it does take a lot of effort to look after an animal like that.
** In "Down 'n' Dirty", she does say some rather insensitive things against having baths, but she does make a valid point in that you ''will'' get dirty again after bathing.
** "All Chalked Up" has her infamously stepping on Bubbles' chalk. While she had no excuse for doing it, she was right about the point of playgrounds being that they're typically supposed to be ''played'' on and not drawn on.
** At the beginning of "Aspirations", she complains about how there hasn't been any crime for many nights in a row, which is something you'd expect to happen within a group of girls who fight crime regularly.
** "Man Up" has her shamelessly bellyaching about how nothing cool has happened at the festival the girls are at -- which indeed nothing has.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While she’s agressive and a bit arrogant, she does genuinely care for her sisters and the Professor. Plus, she does warm up to heartfelt moments, but acts aloof about it.
* KickTheDog:
** Breaking Bubbles's chalk in "All Chalked Up".
** She repeatedly hurt Bubbles in "Moral Decay" whilst trying to steal her teeth. In that same episode, she took teeth from villains who had done nothing.
* KnightInSourArmor: She's the BloodKnight of the trio and is cynical. She does represent the "Spice" portion of the recipe, after all.
* KnightTemplarBigBrother: She is known to react violently if anyone threatens her sisters.
** Although she rushes headfirst into situations and prefers to solve things with violence, she is smarter than she is given credit for and often gives others an EurekaMoment, like in TheMovie.
** Also in "Makes Zen To Me", when she goes to a temple to learn how to control her anger, she finds she actually ''likes'' doing things like lighting candles and meditating.
** Buttercup may be the one out of the girls who has the most street smarts. She learns mostly through experience and that accounts for just as much as [[GeniusDitz Bubbles]] or [[InsufferableGenius Blossom]]. She is also the one to come up with a solution when the girls are in a losing battle.
* TheLadette: The tomboy of the sisters who doesn't show much enthusiasm for cute things and loves sports and violence the most.
* LadyLooksLikeADude: Her hairstyle makes her look somewhat male. It actually causes in-universe ViewerGenderConfusion on the 2016 reboot, where an occasional joke would be a character mistaking her for a boy.
* TheLancer: As the more rebellious and HotBlooded foil to Blossom.
* LargeHam: Sometimes she gets pretty hammy about things, particularly sports or beating up villains.
* LeeroyJenkins: Her first instinct when confronted with a threat is usually to charge straight after it. More often than not, it works.
* LittleMissSnarker: She has some pretty funny lines and sass along with it. For a kindergartner she's pretty snarky.
* LovableJock: Rare female example, is fighting-oriented and is a hero. But she's a rare example of being both this and a JerkJock.
* TheMcCoy: Short-tempered and hot-blooded.
* MeaningfulName: Not InUniverse, as Utonium gave it to her for AddedAlliterativeAppeal and no other reason, but in real life, buttercups are flowers that look beautiful, but are actually poisonous if ingested. This matches up keenly with Buttercup's status as a CuteBruiser, looking adorable but actually being the biggest BloodKnight of the three.
* MessyHair: In "Dance Pantsed" and the 2016 show.
* MiddleChildSyndrome: Even though the girls are the same age, Blossom and Bubbles behave like the elder and youngest child, as does Buttercup. She seems to feel unnoticed most of the time. The lack of a [[MeaningfulName Meaningful Name]] doesn't help matters.
* MoodSwinger: She seems to have trouble finding balance between being friendly, and being bitter and loud.
* TheNapoleon: Just as small as her sisters and is ill-tempered.
* NaughtyIsGood: On the good side, sure, but she's the least nice on the team. This is her main trait in the reboot, where she tends to cause more problems than she solves them because of her mischief. However, Buttercup is still a hero when it comes down to it, and someone you'd want to watch your back.
* NobodyCallsMeChicken: Buttercup hates when people assume she is scared in situations.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
** If Buttercup is openly weeping about something, you know something is wrong. "Cover Up" is a very big example of this.
** If Buttercup [[TheDeterminator has lost her will]], something bad has happened.
* ThePigPen: Seems to be a reoccurring trait. The original series has an episode called "Down 'N Dirty", which focuses on her refusing to take a bath. In a later episode of the 2016 reboot, "Cheep Thrills", it's mentioned that she doesn't wash her feet. "The Secret Swapper of Doom" also reveals that she rarely brushes her teeth.
* SanityBall: The very, '''''very''''' rare occasion Blossom isn't being the OnlySaneWoman, it's her. See CloudcuckoolandersMinder.
* SanitySlippage:
** During "Moral Decay", as she gets more money from knocking out citizen's teeth, she gets more insane too.
** Quickly loses it in "Clawdad" while out on a rowboat in the pond in the time span of two hours.
* SarcasticDevotee: To Blossom, making snarky remarks at Blossom's plans or just snarking at Blossom in general.
* SecurityBlanket: "Cover Up." She says that it helps her do well in battles.
* SlasherSmile: Makes psychotic grins several times in "Moral Decay".
* SmarterThanYouLook: She looks and seems the least smartest but actually, Buttercup is pretty smart. It's overshadowed frequently however with Blossom's strategical skills and Bubble's multiple languages skill. She's smart when it relates to intuition in fighting, quick decisions, and being fairly pragmatic in any difficult scenario battle wise or non-battle wise.
* TheSnarkKnight: A hero, but jaded, cynical and snarky.
* SourOutsideSadInside: Buttercup is abrasive and cranky, but underneath it all she's insecure and wants to be seen as special by others.
* SourSupporter: To Blossom, when she's being particularly bossy.
* SpidersAreScary: She certainly thinks so, seeing as how she'll freak out if spiders are in sight.
* StepfordSnarker: She uses snark and mean spirited comments to [[HiddenHeartOfGold hide]] her feelings of inferiority.
* StraightMan: To Bubbles, inflexible, dour, and sarcastic to her random optimism and exuberance. With Blossom, however, she is the Wise Guy in the StraightManAndWiseGuy pairing due to being much more impulsive and rebellious than the former.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Depending on her mood, Buttercup can be nice but she can also be mean. Normally, she is cold and angry but there are times when she is warm and friendly.
* {{Tomboy}}: Buttercup loves fighting, playing with action figures, [[TomboyishVoice speaks in a gender-neutral voice]] (especially in the reboot), and normally hangs out with guys at the playground.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: Buttercup, who is Butch to Bubbles and Blossom's, is known as the toughest fighter of the three and is usually seen playing male sports. However, she also fights crime in a girly dress and is seen talking about cute animals and girly things with her sisters.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Tomboy to Bubbles' Girly Girl. Buttercup is short-tempered and interested in things associated with guys, whereas Bubbles is girly and interested in stuffed animals and dolls.
* TokenEvilTeammate: Displays a much meaner streak than her two sisters.
* TomboyishVoice: Her original voice is much raspier than the other two, and in the reboot, her new voice (it's much deeper) is to exaggerate her tomboyish nature.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: "Princess Buttercup" suggests it's sloppy Joes.
* TroubledButCute: She may be angsty but she is adorable nonetheless.
* {{Tsundere}}: The Harsh type. She's grouchy and sardonic on the outside, but sometimes [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold shows a nicer side]].
* TheUnapologetic: Buttercup will do anything to not apologize when she did something wrong, and when she is pressed against doing so she has great difficulty doing it, particularly in both "Paste Makes Waste" and "All Chalked Up".
** For the former, she teases Elmer Sglue for eating paste. When Elmer turns into a giant radioactive monster as a result of eating a fly that swam in toxic waste and landed in his paste, Blossom and Bubbles get trapped in him, leaving Buttercup to apologize to him the only option of saving them. Of course, Buttercup is reluctant to do so.
** In the latter episode, Buttercup destroys Bubbles' chalk, leading Bubbles to get a new set from a butterfly that is really a disguised Him. The chalk transforms her drawings into giant monsters. At the end of the episode, Buttercup reluctantly tries to apologize, but Bubbles accepts her apology before she can give it.
* TheUnfavorite: Hints that she may feel this way. Nine times out of ten, the only times she ever gets individual attention is because she's causing trouble. In comparison to her sisters, the Professor is more lenient with [[ParentalFavoritism them]] than her when they act up (Blossom stealing the golf clubs or Bubbles keeping the whale). All in all, Buttercup really doesn't get any attention. Her blanket was taken from her [[DoubleStandard even though she is 5 and her sister has Octi]]. Despite it being unhealthy to place your worth in a blanket, it was a SecurityBlanket.
* UnstoppableRage: God help you if you piss [[TheBerserker her]] off.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Buttercup hates [[SpidersAreScary spiders]] with a mighty passion.
* WhenSheSmiles: Buttercup is capable of showing genuine smiles, but more often than not, the types she frequently shows are either a GrinOfAudacity or a PsychoticSmirk, especially the former. But on the occasion when she does show a genuine smile, she's just as adorable as her sisters.

[[caption-width-right:252:The Toughest Fighter]]
* BadassBoast: "It'll take a lot more than a couple of cheap shots to make us cry."
* BigShutUp: She gives four of them in the episode "Monstra-City".
* DeathGlare: An expression she tends to give particularly when she's fighting crime.
* DirtyCoward: In "Moral Decay". Having spent the entire episode robbing teeth from villains for profit, she is scared shitless when they gang up on her to do the same.
* EmbarrassingNickname: The Professor calls her "Butterbear" in "Powerprof", and Blossom calls her "Butterfingers" after dropping Femme Fatale in "Equal Fights".
* EmotionallyTongueTied: In "Paste Makes Waste," she had physical difficulty apologizing to Elmer Sglue for bullying him.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: In "Buttercrush" when she gives the Gangreen Gang the [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown mother ]] of all beatdowns for using her to hurt her sisters.
* TheFirstCutIsTheDeepest: She...[[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown doesn't react well]] when she finds out Ace was just using her in "Buttercrush".
* FreakOut: Has one when she loses her blanket in "Cover Up".
* GirlinessUpgrade:
** In the teen flashback from "City of Clipsville", where she wears girly things and acts girly.
** She sort-of gets one at the end of "The Rowdyruff Boys" where she kisses Butch, followed by a downgrade back to normal when her reaction to having kissed a boy is to start spitting repeatedly in disgust.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: Buttercup gets glowing green eyes in the ComicBook/{{Spawn}} expy Mange in ''Super Zeroes''.
* {{Greed}}: In "Moral Decay" when she knocks out teeth from super villains for cash.
* HatesBaths: Is a central plot point in "Down 'N Dirty." Heck even after Blossom and Bubbles gives her a bath, she doesn’t thank them and she only said she went through with the bath so she can go back to fighting monsters again. It never shows up again after this episode, though (thankfully).
* HeartbrokenBadass: After she realizes Ace was lying to her in "Buttercrush".
* IAmSong: "Buttercup (I'm a Super Girl)" by Music/ShonenKnife, a fast-paced rock song about how much she loves to fight monsters and save people.
-->You know, I'm a super girl\
Yes, I'm a punky girl\
I never say die\
No one can stop me\
'cause I like to ''fight!''
* InelegantBlubbering: In "Cover Up" when she couldn't find her blanket, and ends up sounding exactly like [[WesternAnimation/{{Rugrats}} Tommy Pickles]] while doing so. Bonus points for [[Creator/ElizabethDaily sharing the same voice actress]].
-->'''Buttercup''': ''[bawling her eyes out]'' WHERE'S MY BLANKET???!!!
* InformedDeformity: During the flashback of the trio as teenagers in "City Of Clipsville", [[WeightWoe Teen Buttercup]] claims to have weight issues despite being the same size as her sisters.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Justified, since she's just 5. In "Moral Decay", she [[MoneyFetish gains a fetish for money]] and in at least 3 episodes of the reboot she [[SkewedPriorities valued objects more than her sisters]].
* JabbaTableManners: She is shown to have these in "Makes Zen To Me". She gets called out on this by both Blossom and Bubbles.
* JerkassBall: Had her genuine moments in the original show, such as making Bubbles cry in "All Chalked Up" and throwing paste in Elmer's face in "Paste Makes Waste".
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Buttercup may act brash and cold sometimes, but she's still a good-hearted girl who admits her mistakes and she loves her sisters. It's ''not'' a good idea [[BigSisterInstinct to harm them when she's around]]!
* LaserGuidedKarma: She gets this at the end of "Moral Decay". After knocking out villains' teeth unprovoked just so she can use their teeth to get more money from the tooth fairy, her sisters let the toothless villains knock out Buttercup's teeth as payback. In addition, Buttercup's ill-gotten gains are used to pay her dental bills afterwards.
* LikesOlderMen: She fell in love with Ace, who's a teenager, while Buttercup is only five.
* LittleNo: Gives an absolutely comical one as a monster not much taller than her marches up to her after effortlessly beating her in "Cover Up".
* LoveMakesYouDumb: In "Buttercrush" when she becomes infatuated with Ace, which he uses to his advantage to manipulate Buttercup and to destroy her sisters.
* LuminescentBlush: Gets one after [[{{Gasshole}} accidentally flatulating]] in "Crazy Mixed Up Puffs".
* LettingHerHairDown: Lets her hair go down whilst bragging about winning a race in "Speed Demon".
* MoneyFetish: [[OutOfCharacterMoment In "Moral Decay" she was so obsessed with money that she was okay with]] ''[[OutOfCharacterMoment beating up villains and Bubbles for their teeth so she could get money]]''.
* NotSoAboveItAll:
** At first she doesn't want to keep Kitty in "Cat Man Do", but [[CutenessProximity she's soon gushing over it with her sisters]].
** In "Boogie Frights", Buttercup teases Bubbles for being afraid of the Boogie Man, but when they actually encounter the Boogie Man's minions, they both get so scared that they hug one another, which Bubbles immediately points out.
** In the 2014 special, she mentions that she thinks Corgi dogs are cute.
* OcularGushers: She, of all people, does this after her blanket goes missing in "Cover Up". [[DependingOnTheWriter depending on the episode]]. [[SanityBall ball of sanity]] and become this.
* OhCrapSmile: Twice in "Moral Decay", first when the entire RoguesGallery was going to beat her up and when the professor looks disapprovingly at her afterwards.
* OneOfTheBoys: At school, she hangs out with the boys in the class.
%%* OnlySaneMan: Shares this role with Blossom. Whenever [[NotSoAboveItAll Blossom is doing something irrational]], she'll pick up the
* PetTheDog: She over-apologizes to Bubbles for hitting her in "Moral Decay".
* PrecociousCrush: Gets one on Ace in "Buttercrush." She's physically a kindergartner and he's at least a teenager.
* ThePigPen: "Down n' Dirty". She refuses to bathe after each battle, despite being sequentially drenched in crude oil, monster snot, and raw sewage. The smell gets so bad that she is first kicked out of the house, then forced to leave Townsville. She begrudgingly gives in when ''even monsters'' don't want to deal with the stink.
%%zce* PrimalChestPound:
* RememberedICouldFly: PlayedForLaughs; in "Down n' Dirty", she is being chased by a mob of townsfolks for refusing to take a bath, when she abruptly stops and asks, "Wait, what am I doing?" before taking off into the air.
* SuddenlySpeaking: [[TheVoiceless Doesn't speak]] in "Buttercrush", except for [[spoiler:when she apologizes to her sisters near the end of the episode.]]
* TemporarilyAVillain: In "Moral Decay" when she starts most of the trouble in the episode by knocking the villains' teeth out, even when they weren't bothering her. [[LaserGuidedKarma It came back to bite her in the ass though]].
* UngratefulBitch: In the episode "Down and Dirty," when she finally decides to take a bath. Instead of thanking Blossom and Bubbles for even being willing to be near her in light of her smelling so bad, she just retorts on how she only took the bath so she could resume crime-fighting. Blossom even lampshades this.
-->'''Blossom:''' You know, Buttercup, you may be clean, but your attitude still stinks.
* VillainProtagonist: Was both the villain and the main protagonist of "Moral Decay", wherein she beats up everyone in Townsville to get money.
* TheVoiceless: She has no lines in "Buttercrush" [[spoiler:until at the end when she apologizes to her sisters.]]
* VocalEvolution: Overtime, Buttercup's voice became rougher and raspier, possibly to differentiate her voice from Tommy Pickles'.
* WeightWoe: Her teen self in "City Of Clipsville" says she is self-conscious about allegedly being overweight [[InformedDeformity even though she isn't any wider than her sisters]].
* WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway: "Nuthin' Special" reveals that [[spoiler:that her special power (if you can even call it "special") is curling her tongue.]]
* WouldHarmASenior: She attacks a senior in the episode “Him Diddle Riddle” to reduce him to tears.

!!Bullet
[[folder:Bullet]]
A young squirrel whom the girls found injured on a camping trip after she was attacked by a falcon and took home in order to nurse her back to heal. Once Bubbles gives her some Chemical X to help her heal faster, she gains the same superpowers as the girls and becomes a superheroine on her native forest. She also serves as the [[SixthRanger fourth Powerpuff girl]] and [[CommutingOnABus still remains good friends with the Powerpuff Girls]].
----
* AbnormalAmmo: She can gather nuts inside her mouth and spit them at her enemies.
* ActionPet: Definitely counts as one for the girls when they merely adopted her as their own pet, became a member of their team, and engaged in everyday heroic duties alongside them. But this eventually didn't stick for long, mainly because she felt homesick and wanted to stay at her original home after protecting the animals.
* AmbiguousGender: Her gender isn't properly confirmed in her debut episode, but she is consistently addressed with feminine pronouns, but was called a boy by Buttercup. She also has an ambigous-looking face.
* AnimalSuperhero: Oh yes.
* ButNowIMustGo: She chooses to return to her native forest so she can defend the animals living there.
* CommutingOnABus: She left the main cast in her debut episode and became the forest’s protector but she still serves as a member to the group and is able to help when the situation demands it.
* SixthRanger: She is the fourth Powerpuff girl and would’ve joined the main cast if she didn’t have an ButNowIMustGo moment.
[[/folder]]

!Professor Utonium
->'''Voiced by''': Creator/TomKane, Creator/RobPaulsen (as a young boy)

Professor Utonium is the brilliant scientist who created the girls in his lab. He acts as a father figure, caring for them as a single parent would. He's enthusiastic about his work and cooks up all sorts of inventions and experiments in his lab.
----
[[folder:Both Series]]
* AchievementsInIgnorance:
** Every time he makes something useful, it was on accident. Dynamo doesn't count as an exception, because even though he made it on purpose, it caused disaster.
** The one ''proper'' exception is in the episode Nano of the North, where his purposefully built shrink ray was crucial in helping the girls save the day. [[spoiler: Even though in the end he ended up saving the day by stepping on the monster, it never would've gotten to that point had he not shrunk the girls down. The girls were then able to destroy most of the nanobots causing the remaining few to combine in desperation.]]
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: The episode "Powerprof" is dedicated to this; he calls the girls embarrassing nicknames. It shows up from time to time elsewhere.
* BerserkButton:
** Don't objectify his girls. Despite being an ExtremeDoormat to Dick Hardly, when the latter suggests selling clones of them for their powers, Utonium snaps at him and kicks him out of the house.
** Brace yourself for a beatdown if you ever cut down the tree that he planted as a kid.
** Don't disobey him.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He’s a nice, laid back guy, but if you know what’s good for you, [[PapaWolf DON’T harm his girls]]. And in "Roughing It Up", he beat the snot out of Fuzzy Lumpkins when he cut down the tree that the Professor had planted when he was younger.
* BigGood: As the mentor, father, gadget supplier figure.
* BigOlEyebrows: Has some pretty expressive ones, too.
* BrattyHalfPint: Revealed to have been this in his childhood, much to the surprise of Mojo, in "Get Back Jojo." He was even bordering on TheBully toward the other kids, particularly Matthew.
* ButtMonkey: Not only does he get captured a lot, but he gets more prone to getting [[AmusingInjuries comedic injuries]] in the 2016 series.
* CharacterTics: Wagging his finger whenever he's angry.
* CreateYourOwnVillain: While the Professor was the one who made the Powerpuff Girls, turning the city of Townsville from a WretchedHive into an (admittedly weird) ShiningCity, he was ''also'' responsible for creating its most active and prolific supervillain Mojo Jojo.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: He is the second most important character in the series, after his daughters, Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup (The Powerpuff Girls' protagonists), and so much is the fact that it was he who created the girls who are the heroines of the city of Townsville.
* EveryoneWentToSchoolTogether: He is former classmates with Miss Bellum and Miss Keane.
* FatherlyScientist: He creates the title characters and winds up adopting them as his children.
* FormerTeenRebel: Well, preteen. When he was around the girl's (physical) age, he was a prank-pulling brat with no scholarly interests. It isn't until the girls save him from a time-traveling Mojo did his interest in science start.
* {{Foil}}: Interestingly, he and Dick are exact moral opposites. While Professor Utonium is fascinated by the world of science, Dick is a sleazy sexist who's more interested in money and women.
* GadgeteerGenius: He creates things like a supersuit or a giant robot or a car that can turn into a giant robot...or superpowered kindergarteners.
* GentleGiant: Can be considered as this towards the Powerpuff Girls, largely thanks to his paternal behavior towards them.
* GentlemanAndAScholar: He's a well-established academic person (thanks in part to his scientific profession), and is a very considerate person, most notably towards his own children the Powerpuff Girls (even if those three are artificially made).
* {{Good Parent|s}}: He's a loving, doting father for the girls.
* LikeParentLikeChild: The Professor shares some distinct similarities with all of the girls. Like Blossom he has a logical mindset and a passion for academics. Like Bubbles he's optimistic and cheerful by default and occasionally naïve. And he even has similarities with Buttercup! Like Buttercup he's quick to get angry and defensive with other people, has a natural aptitude for fighting ([[NoHoldsBarredBeatDown as Mojo and Fuzzy can attest)]], and in one issue of the comics they were shown bonding over blowing things up. However their similarities are really shown in the episode 'Get Back Jojo' where a trip to the past showed that as a kid, Professor was almost ''exactly'' like Buttercup (a little less outwardly aggressive but still just as violent and temperamental).
* MotorMouth: He can speak incredibly fast when explaining scientific things.
* NiceGuy: The Professor is one of the most level-headed and friendliest guys in town.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: His voice actor based his voice off of Creator/GaryOwens.
* OmnidisciplinaryScientist: He's built giant robots, tampered with genetics, created his own daughters, mixed potions, formed abstract theories about time and space, and...basically anything else the series might need, science-wise.
* OnlySaneMan: Shares this role with Sara Bellum. While he has his moments of silliness, he is by far one of the more intelligent and levelheaded people in town, simply by actually having some common sense.
* OutOfCharacterMoment: While it's normal for the Professor to get angry with the girls when they disobey him, he goes overboard when he got angry with the girls in "Daylight Savings" when they wanted to go against their curfew to save Townsville. This is also combined with treating the curfew like it's SeriousBusiness while having SkewedPriorities regarding it as well.
* PapaWolf:
** Even though his daughters are super-powered [[FlyingBrick Flying Bricks]] and capable of handling themselves, he still worries about their safety as any parent would, especially on the occasions when they ''do'' run into real danger. In "Knock It Off", when Dick Hardley nearly kills the girls by draining the Chemical X from their bodies, the Professor begs for their lives, even offering to make all the Chemical X that Dick wants if he'll spare them.
** Threatening to hurt or try to hurt the girls in front of him gets him mad. [[http://powerpuff.wikia.com/wiki/Lenny_Baxter Lenny Baxter]] learned that the hard way. He also snaps at Dick Hardly when he tries to profit off of them.
** He didn't take kindly to his little girls being wrapped up like action figures (as seen in "Collect Her"); or when [[OneShotCharacter Bernie Bernstein]] put his hands on Bubbles and yelled at her to "keep her mouth shut" in "Film Flam." [[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome The Professor punched him out by the end of the episode]].
* ParentsInDistress: Is constantly getting in danger, getting captured by Mojo Jojo or somebody else.
-->'''Mojo Jojo''': Aw, wook at the wittle hewoes here to save their daddy!
* TheProfessor: It's his first name and he works as a scientist.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: When it comes to the girls bickering, he does his best to listen to each of their sides of the story.
* ScienceHero: Whenever he involves himself in his daughter's superheroics, it's either with an invention that handicaps a superior foe, [[AntiDebuff unhandicaps]] the girls, or uses his robotics to involve himself directly, either with a super-suit of the Dynamo Mech.
* SingleSexOffspring: He is he father of three artificially created, superpowered triplet daughters.
* StandardFiftiesFather: "Mixed with [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_the_SubGenius Bob Dobbs of Church of the SubGenius]]", according to [=McCracken=].
* TeamDad: Considering he actively fathers the girls.
* TheOneGuy: He's the only male character who officially lives in the Utonium residence.
* TheTrickster: As a child, he was fond of pulling pranks.
* TrulySingleParent: He made the girls in a lab with no other parent to speak of. He's also not technically speaking their biological father either, as he didn't use any genetic material to make them.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: While usually helpful to the girls, he does have his moments of this. Perhaps most noteworthy was in "Uh Oh Dynamo", where his overprotectiveness prompts him to build a massive robot for the girls to use to avoid getting hurt in battle. After forcing them to use it by threatening to ground them otherwise, they defeat the attacking monster.....''And completely demolish ALL of Townsville in the process''. Suffice to say, the townspeople are NOT happy when they learn what he did. Made even more egregious when Dynamo wreaks havoc again in "Live and Let Dynamo", where we learn the Professor failed to destroy it after it was banned from further use.

[[folder:Original Series]]
[[quoteright:202:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/utonium.png]]
* AintTooProudToBeg: In "Knock It Off" when Dick Hardly has the girls trapped and is draining them of their chemical X, which is killing them, and there's nothing he can do about it. It doesn't work.
* BadassBookworm: As his superhero alter-ego, Powerprof.
* CassandraTruth: In "Film Flam", for a while at least. No one believed him when he said Bernie Bernstein wasn't really making a movie and was just trying to rob the bank. At least until he starts getting desperate, to which Bubbles says, "I believe you, Professor."
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: At the end of "Him Diddle Diddle", after he is forced to pay [[spoiler:for Him's pancakes]], Professor Utonium insults Him over his [[spoiler:overpriced pancakes]] and proceeds to leave to have breakfast with the girls elsewhere.
* DistinguishedGentlemansPipe: Carries one in the earlier episodes.
* DistressedDude: Frequently. Even Lampshaded by Bubbles.
--> '''Buttercup''': I think we're supposed to go save the Professor.\
'''Bubbles''': ''Again''?
* DitzyGenius: To some degree, especially in "Uh Oh Dynamo", where his attempt to protect the girls leads to the unintentional ''destruction of the entire city.'' As the narrator puts it, "just because you're a genius doesn't mean you're a smart guy." It's even lampshaded by the girls in a later episode to the professor's horror that all of his successful inventions (including themselves) are total accidents, while everything he invents on purpose ends up a [[GoneHorriblyRight horrible failure]].
* DoesNotLikeSpam: He ''really'' doesn't like peas.
* DotingParent: When he's not busy with work--he really does love his girls, and always tries to be there for them when they need him. To put it in perspective, ''he built a giant mecha'' for them. Just on the slim chance they ''might'' get hurt. Plus all the presents he bought them in the movie almost directly after making them.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: He uses PoweredArmor in Powerprof.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: In "Knock It Off", he thinks of [[JerkWithAHeartOfJerk Dick Hardly]] as a good friend of his despite the fact that Dick was obviously using him even back in their college days. Could also apply to [[LoveMakesYouDumb Sedusa]] in the episode "Mommy Fearest", though her act was more convincing.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: In "Supper Villain," Professor sees his neighbor Harold Smith and immediately starts telling Harold how absolutely ''perfect'' his life is going. While he meant nothing by it, Harold was incredibly dissatisfied with his average, patterned life, making it seem to him that Professor was bragging and rubbing his great life in Harold's face, which probably contributed to Harold's decision to target the Professor.
* JerkassBall: In "Daylight Savings," he acts hostile towards the girls while treating their curfew like SeriousBusiness.
* LoveMakesYouDumb: In "Mommy Dearest", he gained a crush on Sedusa (who was disguised as Ima Goodlady), and ends up agreeing to everything she says.
* ManlyTears: Did this when the Girls [[DisneyDeath seemingly died]] in "Knock It Off". In fact, those manly tears [[SwissArmyTears bring them back to life]].
* MyGreatestFailure: Seems to regard the Dynamo as this.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Arguably, he's indirectly responsible for Buttercup's inferiority complex because he didn't give her a MeaningfulName like her sisters. Not to say he doesn't love her just as much as he loves Blossom and Bubbles, of course.
* ParentWithNewParamour: His new paramour eventually turns out to be the villain Sedusa.
* PleaseIWillDoAnything: In "Knock It Off" when he's begging [[JerkAss Dick Hardly]] to spare the girls.
* SickeninglySweethearts: With Ms. Keane in "Keen on Keane." [[spoiler: However, this ends when the Professor can't stand her cat Valentino, causing the two of them to break up.]]
* SkewedPriorities: In "Daylight Savings," he thought the girls following their strict curfew was more important than them saving Townsville.
* SmokingIsCool: In the early episodes, he was often shown smoking a pipe.
* TranquilFury: He enters this more than once, usually when in PapaWolf mode.
** In "Film Flam," when he witnesses Bernie Bernstein shout at Bubbles on live television, he immediately gets up and goes straight to the set to give him a piece of his mind.
--->'''Professor''': Mr. Bernstein, we need to have a little talk.
** In "Knock it Off," it happens again when Dick Hardly starts calling the Girls "[[ItIsDehumanizing things]]" and talking about profiting off them. While the Professor is clearly ''furious'' with Dick and now realizes what sleazy {{Jerkass}} he always was, he keeps his cool, ordering Dick to stay away from him and his kids and throwing him out of the house without even raising his voice.
* TookALevelInBadass: In "Powerprof" when he builds a suit that gives him powers so he can save the world with the girls.
* TotallyRadical: "Powerprof" when he attempts to use outdated slang, which embarrasses the girls.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: [[InvertedTrope Inverted]]. Professor Utonium was a BrattyHalfPint as a child on par with Mitch Mitchelson. These days he's more of a NiceGuy.
