[[header:Trade Federation]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sw_trade_federation.png]]

The Trade Federation was an interstellar shipping and trade conglomerate led by the Neimoidians during the waning years of the Galactic Republic, one so powerful that it had its own representatives in the Galactic Senate. Under the orders of Darth Sidious/Sheev Palpatine, the Trade Federation invaded Naboo with a droid army to spark a government crisis that resulted in Palpatine getting elected into office as Supreme Chancellor. It later became one of the leading Separatist powers during the Clone Wars. At the conclusion of the war, the remaining Trade Federation leaders were killed and the remnants of the organization were assimilated by the Empire, with much of its wealth ending up in the hands of Imperial financers like Arsin Crassus.
----
* AdaptationalJerkass:
** In ''Legends'' (as presented in the ''Literature/DarthPlagueis'' novel), the Trade Federation actually started out with semi-legitimate reasons to distrust the Republic and amass their own army: their trading fleets were constantly besieged by pirates and terrorists (secretly moved by Plagueis and Sidious, which the Federation obviously didn't know), and the Republic government led by Chancellor Valorum was proving utterly unable to protect them due to political corruption and infighting about trade and taxation (again, fueled by Plagueis and Sidious), which Sidious later exploited to excite the Neimoidians' greed and attract them to the Separatist Alliance. None of the aforementioned traits from ''Legends'' get included into the canon, which effectively turns the canon version of the Trade Federation into a group of petty warmongers from beginning to end.
** ''ComicBook/DarthMaul'', however, recanonizes the pirate attacks, though it's after they've allied themselves with Sidious.
** ''[[Literature/StarWarsTarkin Tarkin]]'' also shows that after the disastrous Eriadu Conference, which the radical political group Nebula Front [[AssassinationAttempt tried to assassinate Chancellor Finis Valorum]],[[note]] Though they did manage to kill the entire directorate of the Federation. [[/note]] and failed, Nute Gunray and his Neimoidian allies took advantage of the ensuing power vacuum and became the new managers of the company.
** ''[[Literature/StarWarsQueensHope Queen's Hope]]'' shows there was at least one Neimodian named [[TokenGoodTeammate Oje N'deeb]] whose faction wanted Nute Gunray and his allies out of the company since their actions ruined their image and wished to meet with a Senator in private.
* ArmchairMilitary: In general, the Neimoidians make terrible military leaders, which is why they delegate such roles to specialized droids and professional officers.
* {{Dirty Coward}}s: Qui-Gon notes that "these Federation types are cowards". Case in point, they are fully willing to launch an invasion on a peaceful planet, but try to scurry away when they discover that the Jedi are in their way.
* TheFederation: InNameOnly; it's more of a MegaCorp.
* {{Greed}}: The primary motivation for the Trade Federation, as the OpeningScroll of ''Film/ThePhantomMenace'' narrates.
* HoistByTheirOwnPetard:
** Like the other corporate members of the Separatists, the Trade Federation tried to play both sides of the war, but ended up destroyed by it. The Separatists lost while the faction that formally stayed within the Republic was nationalized by the Empire that they inadvertently helped create.
** Their actions also inadvertently led to the creation of Darth Vader, who then murdered them and their fellow Separatists on Mustafar once they [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness outlived their usefulness]].
* LackOfEmpathy: They don't seem to care that their invasion of Naboo would result in the suffering and deaths of billions, just so long as they get their commerce.
* MegaCorp: The Federation is so powerful and influential, it actually has representatives on the Galactic Senate as if it were its own planet.
* NoHistoricalFiguresWereHarmed: The Trade Federation is based off of the real world British East India Company and Dutch East India Company, both historical trading companies who were known for having their own private armies and fleets, and remembered for their wars against various indigenous groups, most notably on the Indian subcontinent. Not coincidentally, the people of Naboo have names taken from Sanskrit, an ancient and classical Indian language - thus furthering the parallels between the Trade Federation and the aforementioned trading companies.
* NotWhatISignedOnFor: Everything they do is to satisfy their own greed without the Republic bossing them around. They soon realize how far over their heads they're in once the Jedi and Sith get involved.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney: The Trade Federation was able to get away with the invasion of Naboo for as long as it did because not only was the organization incredibly wealthy on a galactic scale, they were bribing senators to legitimize it. It's also how Nute Gunray managed to remain Viceroy after the invasion was shut down.
* {{Slimeball}}s: By nature, Neimoidians of the Trade Federation are cowardly beings interested solely in personal profit, and have slimy-looking, mottled skin to match.
* StandardSciFiArmy: The Droid Army would later be seen in full force as part of the Clone Wars, but we do get a nice look at its early stages. As they would later on, the Trade Federation fights with a heavily mechanized force, using tanks, heavy troop carriers, and starfighters to quickly occupy Naboo.
* StandardSciFiFleet: The Trade Federation fleet consists of repurposed ''Lucrehulk''-class freighters, which were converted into a combination battleship and troop carrier. At least one is designated as the command and control vessel, keeping the droids on the surface in operation.
* UnwittingPawn: Twice: First in ''Film/ThePhantomMenace'', when they are convinced by Darth Sidious to invade Naboo, only for Sidious to use it as an excuse to get himself elected as Chancellor; and again in ''Film/AttackOfTheClones'', ''[[WesternAnimation/StarWarsTheCloneWars The Clone Wars]]'', and ''Film/RevengeOfTheSith'' when they get swept up in leading a war designed solely for Sidious to strengthen his hold on the galaxy.
* WarForFunAndProfit: While this wasn't well explained, in ''Film/AttackOfTheClones'', they and the other mega corporations were officially neutral parties who sought to profit off the war from both sides. Only later did they throw in with the Separatists, or at least dropped the pretense.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Alongside the rest of the Separatists. Once Palpatine consolidates power across the galaxy and forges his Empire, he sends the newly-christened Darth Vader to massacre the Separatist leaders (including Nute Gunray) before shutting down their droid army. In the aftermath, the leaderless Trade Federation is nationalized, its wealth and production capabilities absorbed by the Galactic Empire.

Nute Gunray was a Neimoidian who served as the Viceroy of the Trade Federation and a high-ranking member of the Separatist Confederacy of Independent Systems and chairman of the Separatist Council. Gunray led the Trade Federation through its invasion of the planet Naboo, at the behest of the Sith Lord Darth Sidious -- who was secretly Sheev Palpatine, the Senator of Naboo, and who had engineered the conflict to be elected Supreme Chancellor. When his plans were thwarted by Queen Padmé Amidala, he joins the Separatist Alliance to take his revenge.
----
* AdaptationalJerkass: In ''Legends'', it is thoroughly explored that, while an asshole, Nute was exploited and corrupted by Sidious to achieve great political power. He eventually comes to ''deeply'' regret this, realizing he is in way over his head aligning with a Sith but recognizes his fate is out of his control when Dooku revealed [[PlayingBothSides Sidious is also the leader of the Separatist Alliance.]] In canon, all of Nute's sympathetic qualities are AdaptedOut, rendering him as an unsympathetic FlatCharacter.
* ArchEnemy: He is one for Padmé. In ''The Phantom Menace'', he was leading the invasion of her planet and she had much contempt for him. After that initial defeat, he felt the same way. In ''Attack of the Clones'', when Padmé was being slashed by the nexu, Nute is shown cheering specifically for her death and previously wanted her to suffer. In ''The Clone Wars'', Nute agrees to send relief supplies to Rodia in return for one small favor: kidnapping Padmé.
* AlasPoorVillain: Downplayed in canon. When Darth Vader is sent to slaughter him as part of Palpatine's YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness on the Separatist Council, Gunray is completely surprised at the betrayal and feebly ''begs'' for mercy before being brutally cut down. However, because he doesn't have the doubts and regrets along with the complex history with Palpatine he had in ''Legends'', he comes off as much more of a cowardly AssholeVictim.
* ArcVillain: Subverted. The trilogy of episodes in ''The Clone Wars'' that are focused on him is about his capture by the Republic and escape, but he's only the main villain of the first episode of the trilogy ("[[Recap/StarWarsTheCloneWarsS1E8BombadJedi Bombad Jedi]]"). The only reason Dooku has Asajj Ventress break him out of Republic custody in "[[Recap/StarWarsTheCloneWarsS1E9CloakOfDarkness Cloak of Darkness]]" is because he doesn't want him blabbing any secrets, and is perfectly willing to tell Ventress to kill Gunray if escape isn't an option.
* AristocratsAreEvil: Played with. "Viceroy" is apparently just the title given to the leader of the Trade Federation. However, [[MegaCorp said corporation apparently controls whole planets]].
* AssholeVictim: No one is going to be missing him, seeing as he was a cowardly, slimy corrupt piece of work. Heck, Palpatine sounded gleeful when he order Vader to kill him, even though Gunray was on his side. Anakin was only too happy to kill him considering Gunray's repeated [[ItsPersonal attempts on Padmé's life]].
* BigBadWannabe: He likes to believe he's calling the shots, but Darth Sidious lets him know who is really holding the power in their conspiracy. From Naboo's perspective, however, his capture signals the end of the occupation.
* BookEnds: In ''The Phantom Menace'', he was the first of the Prequel Trilogy villains to appear. In ''Revenge of the Sith'', he was the last of the Prequel Trilogy villains to be killed.
* CharacterDeath: He is the last of the Separatist leaders to be killed by Darth Vader on Mustafar in ''Revenge of the Sith''.
* TheCoronerDothProtestTooMuch: The Empire recorded his death as a suicide despite the fact that his corpse that they didn't even bury and just left to rot at the Mining Facility has a lightsaber wound across the chest.
* CoolStarship: Has his own ''Sheathipede-class'' transport shuttle, the ''Lapiz Cutter'', which he uses in various moments throughout his life, such as visiting Naboo to rub his company's occupation of Padmé's home planet in her face, or escaping Geonosis during the Clone Wars' first battle there. He even orders his forces on Rodia to recover it due to having an attachment to the vessel.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: He's willing to enslave planets just to improve commerce.
* DecapitationPresentation: Specifically demands Padmé's severed head be presented to him before he will commit to the Separatists.
* DirtyCoward:
** He even admits that he would never put himself at risk, unless he has no other choice.
** When Gunray is captured by the Republic in "[[Recap/StarWarsTheCloneWarsS1E8BombadJedi Bombad Jedi]]", Sidious orders Dooku to rescue or silence him in "[[Recap/StarWarsTheCloneWarsS1E9CloakOfDarkness Cloak of Darkness]]" because he is worried that Gunray would give the Jedi information to save his own skin. Considering that, per WordOfGod, Gunray is the one who told the Jedi Darth Maul's name after being captured at the end of ''The Phantom Menace'', it appears that Sidious' fears are justified.
* DisproportionateRetribution: In ''Film/AttackOfTheClones'', he wants Padmé dead for her role in arresting him after the invasion of Naboo because it cost him a fortune to avoid punishment.
-->'''Nute Gunray''': Get on with it! Carry out the sentence, I want to see her suffer!
* DoubleStandard: When Padmé had her back clawed by a Nexu during her failed execution, he starts giggling at her pain. When she manages to defend herself, he is offended, claiming that she should be shot for what she did.
* EmptyPromise: He promised immediate aid for the starving Rodia if Onaconda Farr helped him lure Padmé into a trap and arrest her. After arriving to Rodia, he said that he'll put the matter of the aid up for debate after Padmé's execution, which had not been in the bargain he made with Farr.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: His first course of action upon learning that the [[{{Ambadassador}} Republic Ambassadors]] are [[WarriorMonk Jedi]]? Why, contact his treacherous Sith Lord and tell him about it, of course. This cements him as the DirtyCoward and UnwittingPawn that sticks for the rest of the Prequel Trilogy.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: It's implied when Sidious tells them to prepare their invasion of Naboo; Gunray questions whether doing so would be legal, to which Sidious says he'll ''make'' it legal. However, it may also be PragmaticVillainy due to not wanting the inevitable backlash and sanctions for illegal actions.
* EvilLaugh: Delivers a cruel chuckle in ''Lair of Grevious'' when his Jedi pursuers, consisting of Kit Fitso and his former Padawan Nahdar Vebb, have stumbled into General Grevious' lair on Vassek 3 and found out he wasn't there all along.
-->'''Gunray:''' You have nothing, Jedi fools! I welcome you to your doom! Hahahahaha!
* {{Greed}}: His main motivation in aligning with the Sith is the promise of wealth. He even keeps demanding that Cad Bane pay him back after losing parts of the Trade Federation's fleet sent to him by Sidious.
* HeKnowsTooMuch: When he gets captured by the Republic, Count Dooku sends Ventress to free him, or silence him, before the Jedi could make him talk. Luckily for Gunray, Ventress manages to pull off the former option.
* {{Hypocrite}}: His admittance of cowardice comes off as this when you realize he already took an unnecessary risk in the first place just by being a CorruptCorporateExecutive.
-->'''Nute Gunray:''' All I know is I never risk my own skin if I don't have to.\
[Ahsoka glares at him]\
'''Nute Gunray:''' What?
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: Mostly due to being generally bullied around by the ''real'' villains. He's not a pleasant person by any means, but all we see is a man out of his depth and fully aware of it.
* ItsPersonal: This is how he feels about Padmé after she helps foil his invasion of Naboo. So much so that he refuses to join the Separatists unless they kill Padmé for him. He specifically tells Dooku that he'll only sign the Separatist treaty when he has Padmé's head on his desk.
* {{Jerkass}}: Gunray is a slimy, greedy, unpleasant, warmongering little snake and he seldom pretends otherwise.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: At the end of ''The Phantom Menace'', he's arrested and tried four times for the invasion of Naboo, but the fact that he's still Trade Federation Viceroy by ''Attack of the Clones'' means he got off scott free. In ''The Clone Wars'', he is captured by the Republic on Rodia, only to be liberated by Asajj Ventress en route to Coruscant for trial while aiding Cad Bane in unlocking the Holocron stolen from the Jedi Temple. Karma eventually does catch up to him in ''Revenge of the Sith'', where Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader finally butchers him along with the rest of the Separatist leaders.
* KilledMidSentence: He gets cut down by Darth Vader as he pleads for his life.
-->'''Gunray:''' Th-The war is over! Lord Sidious promised us peace. We only want— ''ARGH!!''
* LeanAndMean: He's a rather lanky and very nasty character.
* MeaningfulName: The chairman of an armamentistic corporation has a name which reads as "ray-gun" backwards. And his vaguely amphibian appearance might explain the "newt" part.
* MoralMyopia: He wants revenge on Padmé because she had him arrested for the Trade Federation's occupation of Naboo, an illegal, armed occupation that resulted in the suffering and deaths of thousands of innocent people.
* NeverSuicide: The Empire covered up his death at the hands of Anakin as a suicide.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: He is a self-admitted coward, with little to no fighting prowess, but he can still knock out someone from behind, as Commander Gree found out. Ahsoka even claimed that he looked harmless enough.
* OhCrap: He's clearly scared out of his mind when Anakin brutally slaughters the Separatist council and is saving him for last.
* OpinionFlipflop: After Argyus springs him from prison, Gunray remarks "I always had a good feeling about you, captain". After Ventress killed Argyus, Gunray immediately gave her the same compliment (replacing "captain" with "assassin").
* {{Revenge}}: He wants Padmé dead, for her role in arresting him after the invasion of Naboo, mainly because it cost him a fortune to get away from punishment.
* RevengeMyopia: Nute Gunray wants revenge against Padmé for stopping him when he, you know, ''invaded her planet and enslaved her people''. Talk about a sense of entitlement. This is especially nonsensical since Padmé is the leader of the ''opposition'' to the Republic using armed force against the Separatists, so the Separatist leaders should have a vested interest in keeping her around. Soon-to-be Emperor Palpatine ''wants'' the war, as it will thin Jedi numbers and set the Republic in the perfect position to be taken over by him, so removing Padmé's opposition is critical.
* {{Slimeball}}: Aside from being a war criminal, he's also a hypocrite and a misogynist.
* SmugSnake: Spineless, greedy, petty, slimy... yeah, he's this trope.
* StarterVillain: He serves as this for the Prequel Trilogy (and thus the films) as a whole, being a [[DirtyCoward cowardly]] CorruptCorporateExecutive out to invade a single planet over a trade dispute in contrast to the [[GalacticConqueror galaxy-spanning ambitions]] of the Sith.
* StarterVillainStays: While [[UnwittingPawn he's ultimately a pawn of Sidious]] Nute Gunray is an important villain of the Prequel Trilogy; he's behind the AssassinationAttempt on Padme and an important figure of the Separatist Alliance. Palpatine may be behind everything, but Gunray was an important part of what allowed him to become so powerful.
* TakeThat: His name was derived from Newt Gingrich[[note]]fitting considering that his character opposes Chancellor Valorum, who was based on Gingrich's political opponent Bill Clinton[[/note]] and a reworking of the surname of UsefulNotes/RonaldReagan[[note]]who infamously proposed the "Star Wars" defense program without giving George Lucas and his company any royalties[[/note]]. In real life, George Lucas does not hold a very high opinion of either of these politicians.
* TearsOfFear: His final moments have him breaking down and sobbing as he pleads for Anakin/Darth Vader to spare his life.
* YouAreInCommandNow: It's heavily implied that following the deaths of Dooku and then Grievous, Gunray is the highest-ranking member of the Separatists still alive. Not that he gets to do much with his new position before he gets killed by Darth Vader.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: This is his fate in ''Revenge of the Sith''. Once Darth Sidious is confident in his victory, he sends his new apprentice to slaughter him along with the rest of the Separatist leaders.

Rune Hako was a cowardly Neimoidian official and Viceroy Gunray's lieutenant.
----
* AmoralAttorney: He serves as the Viceroy's legal counsel, and the ''Visual Dictionary'' describes his headgear as an attorney's cowl.
* BigNo: His last words before being killed by Darth Vader in ''Film/RevengeOfTheSith''.
--->''Stop! Nooo!''
* CharacterDeath: He was executed with the rest of the Separatist leadership by Darth Vader.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: His quote "We will not survive this" was this unintentionally. At the time he was talking specifically about the Jedi on the Trade Federation ship. While he ''did'' survive that event, he was correct in that they did not ultimately survive as he and Nute Gunray were killed by Vader.
* NervousWreck: While Neimoidians are usually pessimists and prone to great stress by nature, Haako's overly nervous personality is said to be well beyond even his people's standards.
* NumberTwo: Answers directly to Viceroy Gunray.
* SatelliteCharacter: All of his scenes revolve around his interaction with Gunray.
* YouDontLookLikeYou:
** In ''Film/AttackOfTheClones'', he looks and sounds different from the preceding and following theatrical films. This is because the mask for Haako was lost after the filming of ''Film/ThePhantomMenace'', so they used the mask for Daultay Dofine instead. Because of the drastically different appearance, the Neimoidian seen with Nute Gunray on Geonosis was originally supposed to be Lott Dod, then because he didn't resemble Dod or sound like him, Lucasfilm renamed the character Gilramos Libkath... then for some reason chucked ''that'' and said it was Rune Haako, in open defiance of all evidence to the contrary.
** Done once again in ''Film/RevengeOfTheSith'' except it is highly downplayed. Though he does somewhat resemble his original iteration, he looks slightly younger.

-->''"This is outrageous! I object to the senator's statements!"''

Lott Dodd was the Trade Federation's representative in the Galactic Senate.
----
* AscendedExtra: He had one scene in ''The Phantom Menace'', but received an expanded role in ''The Clone Wars''.
* BlatantLies: Dod's sole job in the Senate is to fervently deny whatever illegal actions the Federation is accused of doing. In ''The Phantom Menace'', it was the blockade and invasion of Naboo. After the Clone Wars began, he repeatedly insists that the Trade Federation is a neutral party despite the fact that Nute Gunray (whom he insists doesn't represent the Federation as a whole, when the title of "Viceroy" is the highest position in the Federation) and parts of the organization are openly supplying the Separatists, something that other senators and representatives opposed to the war (such as Bail Organa, Jar Jar Binks and Riyo Chuchi) aren't afraid to call him out on. Even though that's technically true to an extent and he's milking both sides of the war, most of his actions clearly favor the Separatists. When the Trade Federation ships blockading Pantora in "Sphere of Influence" (which had none of the Separatists' colors and logo on them) were revealed to have Separatist droids on board, he simply used fleet commander Sib Canay as a [[TheScapegoat scapegoat]].
* TheChessmaster: Not quite up at Palpatine and Dooku's level, but "Supply Lines" really showed that he can play a mean game.
* CorruptPolitician: His role is to make sure the Trade Federation remains part of the Republic while it profits from trading with both sides. He bribes other senators into keeping quiet about the Federation's blockade of Naboo.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: At the end of "Supply Lines", Lott confronted Katuunko, Organa, and Jar Jar for Toydaria helping the Republic send aid to Ryloth. Organa simply told him to bring the issue in front of the Senate if he had proof of any treaty violation. The Senate, whose incompetence Dod knows of perfectly well, since he himself took advantage of it numerous times.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: For all his scandal cover-ups, profiting off of both sides and trying to keep the Clone Wars going, Dod didn't suffer any onscreen physical or legal retribution. ''ComicBook/StarWarsPoeDameron'' confirms that he died at some point late in the Clone Wars, but his cause of death is unknown.
* PlayingBothSides: He repeatedly states that the Trade Federation itself is neutral in the war. As it turns out (quite unsurprisingly), they're milking both the Republic and the Separatists.
* RulesLawyer: When Queen Amidala tries to address the Senate, Dod exploits a loophole to propose having a committee validate that the invasion of Naboo is actually happening.
* TakeThat: His name is derived from then-US senators Trent Lott and Chris Dodd. The latter is also a former lobbyist, and Lott Dodd is effectively a lobbyist for the Trade Federation in all but name.
* WarForFunAndProfit: As far he's concerned, he wants to keep the Clone Wars going so the Trade Federation is still a viable business for both sides.

An OOM-series Battle Droid commander served as the leader of the Trade Federation's droid army on Naboo.
----
* CharacterDeath: He gets deactivated, though not completely destroyed, when Anakin knocks out the droid control ship.
* CommandingCoolness: He serves as a commander in both rank and class, and proves to be a fairly competent leader in battle.
* TheDragon: As the commander of the Trade Federation's Droid Army, OOM-9 serves this role for Nute Gunray in ''The Phantom Menace''.
* GoldColoredSuperiority: His gold highlights mark him as a commander and he's intelligent enough to have a solid grasp of battlefield tactics.
* HyperCompetentSidekick: He's a capable commander without his superiors' input, given that he led the Droid Army in defeating and routing the Gungan Army on his own.
* MookLieutenant: He leads the Battle Droid army during the occupation and against the Gungans.
* NearVillainVictory: OOM-9 was able to rout and capture the Gungan army, but was unfortunately shut down when Anakin destroyed the droid control ship.

----
* AllThereInTheScript: Unnamed in the movie, he's identified in the novelization.
* AlliterativeName: '''D'''aultay '''D'''ofine.
* TheCaptain: Commands the Trade Federation flagship, from where he directs the droid army during the invasion of Naboo.
* CharacterDeath: He dies when the Trade Federations' flagship is destroyed during the Battle of Naboo.
* DirtyCoward: Like most Neimoidians in the Trade Federation, although he was able to summon the courage to openly question Darth Sidious' plans.
* ThisCannotBe: As seen in the quote above, this is his reaction when informed the droid control ship's main reactor was damaged and losing power.
* TooDumbToLive: Given that he's the captain of the Battle Droid army's control station, he needs to take any major problem with the ship seriously. Except he doesn't take that hint when he is told about the ship's reactor having been blown away by Anakin Skywalker, and he dismisses the report out of his "certainty" that nothing could have penetrated the ship's deflector shields, not realizing that Anakin had unintentionally infiltrated the ship when the shields were lowered to allow a lander to depart. Even then, he doesn't take any precautions about the issue and doesn't order an evacuation from the room. He never finds out how serious the issue is until the control room is incinerated and the control computer blows up, leading to his death as well as that of his crew.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: Only appears for several short scenes before dying.

Sib Canay was a Trade Federation officer who oversaw the blockade of Pantora during the Clone Wars.
----
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: He is supposed to be a "loyal" Trade Federation official. In reality, he uses the Republic's laws to advance Separatist interests by "legally" blockading Pantora while ordering kidnappings.
* TheScapegoat: Senator Lott Dod pins all the blame for the blockade of Pantora and the kidnapping of Chairman Papanoida's daughters on Canay, claiming that he was a secret Separatist officer who acted without Trade Federation knowledge.
* VillainOfTheWeek: He appears as the main villain in "[[Recap/StarWarsTheCloneWarsS3E4SphereOfInfluence Sphere of Influence]]" and is never seen again after being arrested.
