Through constant battles with their Hebijo rivals, the girls of Hanzō National Academy forged lifelong friendships - not only with each other as a team, but with their rivals as competitors and equals. Six months ago, the Hanzō girls scored a decisive victory, defeating the Hebijo Elites and driving them into hiding. Since then, peace has reigned at Hanzō National Academy, and the girls have devoted themselves to their training. But the times of peace have changed, as new threats and old are about to converge in a battle royale the likes of which the shinobi world has never seen.

[[folder:In General]]
* BadassCrew: While they're all high school students, the Hanzō girls are still a team of elite shinobi whose missions ultimately have the world at stake.
* BerserkButton: Since they formed a bond with the Crimson Squad, they'll get really pissed if you insult any one of them.
* BigDamnHeroes: There have been some instances of this. The first one was their rescue and retrieval of Hibari from Hebijo. Another was Ikaruga and the others saving Asuka from Murakumo when she was about to kill her. While Daidouji, whenever she shows up, pulls this all the time.
%% * ElementalPowers: Each member has control over a specific elemental power:
%% ** Asuka: [[DishingOutDirt Earth]]
%% ** Ikaruga: [[PlayingWithFire Fire]]
%% ** Katsuragi: [[BlowYouAway Wind]]
%% ** Yagyu: [[AnIcePerson Ice]] and [[MakingASplash Water]]
%% ** Hibari: [[ShockAndAwe Lightning]]
* PervertRevengeMode:
** The common response to Katsuragi's [[ThanksForTheMammary groping]].
** Subverted with Hanzō. They throw wash bins at him for perving on them at the hot springs, but being the legendary ninja he is, he dodges every last one. He does back off when Asuka threatens to "tell grandma". This has happened three times already.
* TheProtagonist: They are the main characters of the series and generally get the most focus.
* SharePhrase:
** "Let's dance!"
** "I'll show you a dance cloaked in shadows!"
* WakeUpGoToSchoolSaveTheWorld: Being the heroes and the one the series gives most focus to, they fit this the most.
* TheWorfEffect: They get hit with this trope in every game, pretty much just to show how awesome their new rivals are. Probably the most notable instance is in ''Estival Versus'', where [[spoiler:despite having a five on one advantage, they are defeated and eliminated from the festival by the final boss, Ryoki, ''in a cutscene''.]]

-->''For justice's sake, I will not abide you!''

A second year student at Hanzō National Academy. Her grandfather Hanzō is renowned as a legendary shinobi, and is the academy’s namesake. Given her remarkable pedigree, she has a lot of hidden potential within her and bears a strong sense of justice.

No matter how hard she may try, though, she can never quite bring herself to look as intimidating as she wants to, likely due to her overall bright and positive personality. Over time, she’s become a source of immense moral support for her friends and fellow shinobi.

Her primary weapons are two wakizashis, and her Ninpo are based on toads, as well as having an affinity for Earth.
----
* AdaptationalWimp: In the games, Asuka is portrayed as a hot-blooded warrior with a constant drive to improve herself. In comparison to the anime, Asuka is a [[TheKlutz klutz]]. She also has [[IronicFear a fear of frogs]] in the anime, which she doesn't have in the games (but she does get over it with a little help from Ikaruga).
* AllLovingHeroine: One of her major traits is that, no matter the alignment or temperament, Asuka goes out of her way to make friends with other shinobi. This is reflected in how she addresses everyone she meets in [[UsefulNotes/JapaneseHonorifics Japanese]]; virtually ''every'' girl is "-chan" to her, no matter how close, distant or outright hostile they are right back at her... with a few obvious exceptions like "Katsu-nee", who's like a big (obnoxious) sister to her, "Kiriya-sensei", who's a respected teacher, and "Daidōji-Senpai", who could intimidate paint off of walls. Asuka's mouth is likely the only place you'd ever hear "Miyabi-chan", and even legendary shinobi like Hanzō and Sayuri are basically just "Gramps" and "Gran" to her.
* AmbiguouslyBi:
** Early on in the series, she once had a crush on and considered dating the male baseball player Suzuki at her school (who didn't know she was a shinobi), but she decided to turn down his confession despite liking him [[ItsNotYouItsMyEnemies upon deciding it wouldn't work out with someone who wasn't a ninja like her]]. On the other hand, while Asuka is close to all of her female shinobi, her relationship with Homura is on another level compared to the others. In fact, when [[ShipperOnDeck Yumi]] reveals to Asuka that Homura "like, likes her" in ''Shinovi Versus'', Asuka's response is one of surprise but ultimately doesn't mind. She acts surprised again in ''Estival Versus'' when Yumi says that Homura's rivalry with Asuka is Homura's way of saying that she loves Asuka. In ''Peach Ball'' being reminded of Homura's existence is what can help Asuka regain her memories. It remains ambigous, however, because Asuka hasn't given Homura a clear answer.
** She generally has strong feelings toward her rivals, but also a propensity to rub herself on her female friends on official artworks. And of course, there's also the whole Yumi/Homura/Asuka affair in SV. One could speculate that Asuka hasn't realized she is bi yet, with training taking up the major part of her social life and all that.
** According to one mini story released to promote 'Burst' release, Asuka gave Katsuragi permission to grope her because she thought Katsuragi didn't find her attractive. This, of course, was [[LovableSexManiac Katsuragi's]] plan all along.
* AnimalMotifs: Frogs (note that the rival school consists of ''[[AnimalJingoism Snake Girls]]''). Her ultimate ninpo in ''Shinovi Versus'' is to summon a giant frog that she can ride around on briefly.
* BadassAdorable: A cute high school girl who stands at only 5'1", but she's a master swordswoman and one of the most powerful shinobi in the setting.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Undoubtedly one of the sunniest, most cheerful ninjnas in the series, but never to be underestimated as a shinobi.
* BlowYouAway: While Earth seems to be her primary element, Asuka has exhibited wind techniques in the [=3DS=] titles, specifically her storm arts.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Not ''nearly'' as bad as the other girls, to the point where it's nearly nonexistent, but the intro of the anime shows she wasn't always happy with being forced to be a shinobi from a [[ChildSoldier VERY young age.]] And, while she loves her Grandpa, [[AmbiguouslyAbsentParent her parents aren't anywhere to be seen either.]]
** While they aren't mentioned in the games, the anime mentions they help in the sushi business, [[InvisibleParents though they aren't seen there either]].
* DCupDistress: Worries that her breasts might be growing too big. It doesn't help that Kat ''wants'' this to happen!
* DefeatMeansFriendship: The only ninja who runs on this more than the [[Manga/{{Naruto}} orange-clothed blondie himself]], Asuka will happily befriend literally anyone, good shinobi or bad shinobi. It's gotten to the point where Homura has realized Asuka doesn't care ''who'' she is friends with. Homura herself is a shining example of Asuka's methods, as she (whether she admits it or not) is Asuka's best friend and this friendship was [[FireForgedFriends forged through combat]]. Asuka herself doesn't need to win in order to apply this trope. Yumi in the Gessen route of ''Shinovi Versus'', who beat Asuka before the latter challenged to a quick rematch, straight out asks if they can be friends after the battle is over. The one enemy she refuses to befriend, besides the animalistic yoma, is [[HateSink Dogen]].
* DishingOutDirt: Asuka specializes in earth attacks in some of her ninja arts. This is especially evident in SK 2, with her Ninja Arts now using rock formations to propel her forward, and her SuperMode actively making good use of boulders.
* DualWielding: Uses two wakizashis.
* FamilyHonor: Asuka's main struggle in the anime is [[WellDoneSonGuy living up to her family name]] (and more specifically, her grandfather's legacy). One interesting symptom is how the pressure caused her [[WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes to develop a fear of frogs]], which she hadn't really had any experience with until ninja school proper.
* {{Foil}}: Homura and her both have similar upbringings, but the key difference is that [[spoiler:Homura was kicked out of her home for defending herself. Had Asuka been in a similar situation, she likely could have ended up like Homura]].
* ForGreatJustice: Being the only character without a DarkAndTroubledPast, Asuka's main reason for following the way of shinobi is to protect her friends, her family... basically everyone from the shadows. For her, there is nothing more noble than protecting this world without expecting any thanks in return.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Ikaruga utilizes this trait of hers to get her to overcome her fear of frogs in the anime.
* FriendlyEnemies: With Homura.
* TheHeroine: As the leader of the Hanzō squad. Some adaptations assign her this role. In Burst, she has the most overall missions aimed at her this playing this somewhat straight.
* HeroicResolve: Toward her rivals.
* HotBlooded: While not exactly a BloodKnight, Asuka can get really fired up when she needs to put her ideals on the line in a fight.
* TheIdealist: A given, since she will try to befriend any type of shinobi she crosses paths with. It doesn't prevent her from taking fights very seriously, though.
* IdenticalGranddaughter: Asuka looks like a younger version of Jasmine, her grandmother.
* IdiotHero: She seems to be this at the start, but shows herself to be fairly smart towards Homura. Over time, she [[GoodIsNotDumb comes to subvert this]].
* IfItsYouItsOkay: [[spoiler:[[ShipperOnDeck Yumi]]]] told her that Homura was in love with her (something that [[spoiler:Yumi]] concluded on her own) and Asuka [[ShipTease didn't seem to mind one bit]].
* InnocentInnuendo:
** This little quote from ''Shinovi Versus''.
--->''"I've learned a new trick! I can bite two sushi rolls at the same time! They're a little too big for my mouth, though. I can't swallow them both at once..."''
** Her story mode in ''Bon Appetit'' is basically 30 minutes of accidental euphemisms for size and thickness... all referring to food.
* InkSuitActor: She looks like a younger and bustier version of her voice actress.
* InSeriesNickname: Homura calls her "Jugs" in the English version of ''Burst''. HypocriticalHumor at its finest, since Homura is only about an inch smaller.
* ImageSong: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCIxBNKgJ44 Futomaki Ninja]] in ''Bon Appétit''.
* IronicFear: In the anime she's [[WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes afraid of frogs]]; unfortunately for her, ''this'' is her summon animal.
* JackOfAllStats:
** From a meta example, Asuka's stats are generally balanced in the games.
** In-universe, this is actually a significant part of her character -- she realizes that everyone else at Hanzō is better than her at ''something'', and constantly trains to try to bridge the gap.
* JokeItem: Futomaki Rolls and giant kunais from a magazine in ''Deep Crimson'' for regular Asuka. From same game, pair of lightsabers and two giant dango skewers for Ultimate Asuka.
* KiteRiding: Briefly demonstrated it in the anime. The [[GenreShift "Hipster"]] DLC for ''Deep Crimson'' has her using one as her way of transportation.
* LargeAndInCharge: Inverted; she's the shortest of her group. She's even shorter than the first years Yagyu and Hibari.
* LaserBlade: As [[SuperMode Ultimate Asuka]], her Dual Wakizashi emits a green aura around the blades that increases their range and power.
** She also has Twin Beam Swords as one of her weapons in ''Deep Crimson''.
* TheLeader: The Charismatic and Headstrong type, with her kindness and determination spurring everyone she meets to follow her.
* {{Leitmotif}}:
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-s3_EUh-AI&list=UUZe8fFTOngzT1odz5lLEumg For the Sake of Justice]]

** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCu0KpriEz4 Grandma's True Intentions]]
* LightningBruiser: Despite ostensibly being a JackOfAllStats as the starter character and a relatively balanced fighter, in practice Asuka boasts good power, speed, ''and'' defense relative to the rest of the cast; when fully upgraded, she's easily one of the strongest shinobi in the game outside of the deliberately OP secret characters (Daidoji and Rin). It helps that her attacks are also straightforward and have no gimmicks beyond being powerful and fast.
* LimitBreak:
** Dual Slash - A [[DeadlyLunge quick lunging slash]] with both her swords.
** Hanzō Style: Full Boom - [[BladeSpam Asuka does a barrage of slashes]], then ends it with [[GroundPound stabbing the ground]], causing earth spikes to sprout out
** Hanzō Style: Blooming Dance (''Deep Crimson'')
** Toad Summon (''Shinovi Versus'') - She [[SummonMagic summons a giant toad]], which she then rides on as it rampages around.
** Deep Shadow (''Estival Versus'') - a SuperMode that turns her into Ultimate Asuka (a separate character in 3DS series) for a couple of seconds
** Hanzō Style: Storm Kick (Aerial, ''Burst'') - a literal HurricaneKick in midair
** Hanzō Style: Blooming Slash (Aerial, ''Deep Crimson'') - a flying spin attack with her swords that [[TornadoMove creates a whirlwind.]]
** Flying Wild Dance (With Homura, ''Deep Crimson''): - She and Homura do a BladeSpam on a single target.
** Yell Gun (With Daidōji, ''Deep Crimson''): - Asuka combines her ki with Daidōji's to launch a powerful KamehameHadoken hitting every enemy on screen. The effort is too much for Asuka whom falls exhausted after it.
** [[TitleDrop Deep Crimson]] (With Crimson Homura, ''Deep Crimson''): She and Homura make a giant SwordBeam.
* NiceGirl: Asuka is really sunny, jolly and friendly, and loves making friends with her fellow shinobi. She used to be less friendly when she was younger, picking fights and beating up other children, but she's matured and become more sweet since then.
* NotAfraidToDie: Asuka explicitly states during Hebi's arc that ever since she has received her name as a ninja (''Asuka'' and all the other girls' names are code-names), she doesn't fear death anymore. Life and death are two sides of one coin, to live is to be prepared to die.
* PowerDyesYourHair: Very subtly. In ''Deep Crimson,'' her hair is given a very slight tinge of green when she becomes Ultimate Asuka. The difference is so small that it's almost unnoticeable without a direct side-by-side comparison.
* ScarfOfAsskicking: Wears a red one in her default outfit.
* ShipTease: As mentioned above in IfItsYouItsOkay, Asuka has this with Homura.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Based on conceptual artwork on her parents, she looks almost identical to her mother. Her grandmother Sayuri, too.
* SpinAttack: In ''Burst'', her combo string while in her Shinobi Transformation ends with a powerful spin that covers about half the screen.
* SuperMode:
** She becomes "Ultimate Asuka"; it replaces her frog summon in ''Estival Versus'' as her ultimate ninpo while being own character like Crimson Homura in ''Deep Crimson''. It increases her speed, extends her blade with green energy and alters her attacks to be faster and hit more mooks.
** As of EV, it's been subject to some mild UniquenessDecay. With Yumi and Miyabi also getting Super Modes, Asuka's SlipknotPonytail is starting to look less impressive in the face of three different examples of PowerDyesYourHair.
* TomboyishPonytail: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. Asuka wears her hair in a ponytail, but she's only a GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak compared to [[ShadowArchetype Homura]].
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: In the anime she is ''deathly'' afraid of frogs; {{ironic|fear}}ally, her family's summon animal is the frog. Fortunately, Ikaruga devises a way for her to overcome it.

* Favorite Food: Kaiseki; Japanese tea.
* Ninja Animal: Phoenix
* Weapon: AncestralWeapon Nodachi, ''"Hien"'']

-->''I'm the class rep. Of course this is easy for me.''

A third-year student at Hanzō National Academy, she is the class president and the successor to the Houou family organisation’s shinobi line. However, she is not their biological heir, which has led to numerous feuds with her adoptive brother over who should rightfully bear the family’s legacy.

She was given special classes from a very young age and can perform tea ceremonies and cook fine Japanese cuisine, but when creating new recipes on the fly, her meals are… interesting, to say the least. Though typically gentle, thoughtful and kind, she is also a very proud person; when her emotions flare, no one can lay a hand on her.

Ikaruga's primary weapon is the ''Hien''[[note]]Flying/Rising Swallow[[/note]], a family heirloom passed down to her by her father. Her Ninpo is centered around phoenixes, and has an affinity for the Fire element because of this.

----
* AdoptionDiss: Ikuraga is subjected to this by her brother.
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: She is tall, has very long black hair and is the most composed member of the class.
* AncestralWeapon: Her sword, "Hien".
* AnimalMotifs: ThePhoenix.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She's one for maintaining decency, even to her enemies. However, ''never'' insult her honor or her effort to maintain it.
* {{BFS}}: Her Nodachi, which gives her a good long range on her attacks.
* BizarreTasteInFood: Ikaruga enjoys eating ''hornet larvae boiled in soy sauce''. Apparently her father enjoyed them, so she had them many times in her childhood.
* CordonBleughChef: PlayedForLaughs. While the food Ikaruga makes is so hideous one of the manga has to ''pixellate it'', it actually tastes pretty good in spite of what Ikaruga does to make it.
* ClassRepresentative: She's a stickler for the rules. This puts her into some clash with Yagyū
* TheComicallySerious: Her status as the ClassRepresentative stands in stark contrast to the more informal, familial nature of her teammates. Especially [[LovableSexManiac Katsuragi]].
* CoolBigSis: Fills this role in age and the responsible emotional-maturity that Katsuragi ''completely'' lacks.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:She was originally from a no-name, poor ninja family. She was adopted in a heritaged family to fill the role of the heir instead of the family's good-for-nothing son, and she's currently in dispute with her [[GreenEyedMonster (really jealous)]] big brother over the inheritance of the clan.]]
%%* DashAttack / VideogameDashing
* DeathOfAThousandCuts: Her most famous [[LimitBreak Ninja Art]] has her dash past her enemies while [[BladeSpam slashing like mad]], then sheathe her sword. This causes all the slashes to show up on-screen, tearing everything in the vicinity to ribbons.
* {{Expy}}: Her fighting style resembles like the one used by [[VideoGame/BlazBlue Jin Kisaragi]]. Also overlaps with ActorAllusion, as Jin is nicknamed "The Hero of ''Ikaruga''" and he has a childhood friend (Tsubaki Yayoi) who is voiced by Creator/AsamiImai and, later, would take up iaijutsu herself (as Izayoi). Even she use an attack that resembles Jin's [[SpamAttack Sekkajin]] and his ice attacks, except she use fire instead here (which is the opposite element of Jin's ice powers).
** Take note as well that she also shares her backstory with Jin (though Jin has it much worse), being adopted by a prestigious family (also becoming heir/inheritor to these families later on) and being class presidents/representatives in their respective schools. However, both of them have issues with jealous siblings from these families over the inheritance - with Jin being despised by his many siblings (Plus [[{{Yandere}} his messed up relationship with his own real brother]] and Ikaruga being despised by her brother. Not to mention both of their [[AncestralWeapon Ancestral Weapons]] negate each other's elements.
** She herself is notable for making a major appearance in ''Manga/FairyTail'' 's Grand Magic Games arc as [[Characters/FairyTailOfficialGuilds "Kagura"]], who is for all extents and purposes an exact carbon copy, right down to the sword, the ceremonial uniform, the strict and honorable attitude, commanding a squad of Action Girls, and being strong enough to fight the resident badass Erza to a standstill.
* FamilyHonor: Ikaruga was specifically adopted into a family that would not abide its AncestralWeapon ''Hien'' being inherited by its talentless son, Murasame. According to the anime, there's no love in this arrangement; Ikaruga is simply there to protect the family from shame.
* FlamingSword: Ikaruga absorbs her phoenix into ''Hien'' using the Superb Phoenix Flash.
* FormalCharactersUseKeigo: As befits the ClassRepresentative, Ikaruga has a very formal manner of speech.
* FragileSpeedster[=/=]GlassCannon: She has low defense, but is extremely damaging with attacks that cover a wide area and can do some damage quickly... ''very quickly''.
* HimeCut: Sports the traditional hairstyle befitting of a YamatoNadeshiko, an {{Ojou}} and a LadyOfWar with {{samurai}} tendencies.
* HypercompetentSidekick: Having her support Murasame in ''Deep Crimson'' will have her secretly do all the work for him.
* IaijutsuPractitioner: One of her signature [[LimitBreak Ninja Art attacks]] even has her unsheathing it to deliver DeathOfAThousandCuts.
* InnocentInnuendo: From ''Shinovi Versus''.
-->''"Length is a factor, of course, but what matters most is durability. One round is never enough. It takes ten times in a row to satisfy me. Of course, they usually break long before then, and the worst ones give you splinters. Good training swords are really hard to come by."''
* JokeItem: Drying Rack with shirts attached, and a chicken skewer in ''Deep Crimson''.
* LadyOfWar: She speaks very politely, and she may be a rather stuffy ClassRepresentative, but make no mistake. Mess with Ikaruga, and you ''will'' regret it.

* LimitBreak:
** Hien Housen: Mode One - She does one big slash with her blade, then sheathes it and [[SingleStrokeBattle multiple slashes appear in front of her right after.]]
** Oukaensen - she swings her blade and [[ShapingYourAttacks summons a flaming phoenix]] that flies forward, sweeping through enemies.
** Zekka Hoosen (''Shinovi Versus'') - a flaming phoenix falls onto her blade, causing it to turn ablaze; she then does one big slash with it.
** Ouka Ryoudan (''Deep Crimson'', ''Estival Versus'') - she does a powerful chop with her blade that causes fiery waves to erupt along the ground.
** Phoenix Kick (Aerial, ''Burst'') - a DivingKick while her legs hold her blade.
** Hien Housen: Mode Air (Aerial, ''Deep Crimson'')
** Flying Guillotine (With Yomi, ''Deep Crimson'')
** Cool Your Head (With Katsuragi, ''Deep Crimson'')
** The Best Combination (With Murasame, ''Deep Crimson'')
* MinidressOfPower: Her Shinobi outfit puts her in a [[Anime/KillLaKill Satsuki-esque]] white military dress with a short skirt and [[ProperTightsWithASkirt black tights]].
* NakedPeopleAreFunny: Of course it's for {{Fanservice}}, but also in the interests of comedy. Her Vita game endings are all about the irony of prim and proper Ikaruga lecturing others about propriety while her clothes are stripped away, [[RuleOfFunny for laughs]].
* NotSoAboveItAll: In Hikage's scenario in ''Estival Versus'', Ikaruga admits that she sometimes has to get away from everything and "Let it all out," lest the stress overwhelm her.
** She actually does Katsuragi's groping thing on Yomi in the hot springs.
** There is also [[https://gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=2746011 official artwork]] (NSFW warning) indicating that she has a secret naughty side despite her dignified, ladylike front.
* {{Ojou}}: Ikaruga is the descendant of a prestigious Samurai clan. [[spoiler:Just not directly, however, Ikaruga does appear to be a distant cousin of her adoptive father.]]
* PlayingWithFire: Ikaruga incorporates the element of Fire into her ninpo, though it's blue.
* PrinciplesZealot: She's really big on rules and discipline.
* ProperTightsWithASkirt: In her ninja outfit.
* RedOniBlueOni: Blue to Katsuragi and Yomi's red oni.
* {{Samurai}}: Her military aesthetic, weapon and mannerisms make her come off more as a samurai than as a ninja, albeit the two [[SamuraiShinobi aren't mutually exclusive.]]
* ShapingYourAttacks: One of her Ninja Arts is a flaming SwordBeam shaped like a phoenix.
* SidekickExMachina: Plays this to Murasame if you pair them up. She allows him to take the lead to feel better about himself while doing almost all of the work for him from the shadows.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Cool, composed and mature, but still a really kind and gentle girl.
* SurferDude: Well, girl. You wouldn't think so, would you? But yes, she showed some skill at it in the first anime, and uses surfing as part of one of her attacks in one of the mobile games.
* TeamMom: Doubly so as she's the only girl of adult age in her ''gumi'' (obviously, Katsuragi in SV doesn't count).
* {{Toku}}: Ikaruga performs a charity Hero Show like these under the name of ''KP Kamen'' (KP standing for "Kami no ke", hair, and "Pattsun", uniformly straight cut bangs). In the localizations, it's "BC Mask", standing for "Black hair with cut straight bangs".
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Her more refined and feminine nature makes her the girly girl to Katsuragi's tomboy.
* YamatoNadeshiko: After reading this far down the list you should know why: a formal and polite lady who styles her hair in a HimeCut.
* YouAreAlreadyDead: Her first [[LimitBreak Ninja Art]] is a sword-based version. Ikaruga runs past while performing a BladeSpam, which seems to do nothing. Then, she sheathes Hien, and [[DeathOfAThousandCuts everything in the vicinity gets cut down]].

A third-year student at Hanzō National Academy. She’s over-the-top and easily moved to tears, yet she has an older sister-like demeanour that’s thoroughly endeared her to the other members of her class.

There are some ways she might be too over-the-top to her classmates, however, as she tends to be very hands-on in an inappropriate manner. And while these "dirty old man" tendencies of hers can be a little embarrassing for her and anyone else around her, she also constantly strives to become stronger than her peers and spares no effort to that end. Sometimes, she becomes so dedicated to this cause that it even makes her come across as a bit stoic...

Katsuragi is particularly skilled in acrobatic and weaponless combat, particularly specializing in kicks augmented by her metal boots. Her Ninpo centers around the Chinese Dragon, and she has an affinity for Wind-element techniques.

----
* ActressAllusion: Two in the dub:
** At one point Katsuragi lets out an excited, "Yahoo!" Hmm... [[Manga/SoulEater What other ninja voiced]] by Creator/BrittneyKarbowski have [[Anime/SoulEater said that...]]
** She's a wind-using "ninja" with a [[OurDragonsAreDifferent dragon motif]]. Creator/BrittneyKarbowski did ''[[Manga/FairyTail another]]'' wind-using dragon [[KungFuWizard warrior]]...[[ACupAngst who would honestly be jealous of Kat's well-endowed figure]]...
* ArmedLegs: In Senran Kagura 2, her boots have retractable blades at the heel which she can use to float.
* BloodKnight: Out of all the Hanzō girls, Katsu pretty much enjoys fighting the most.
* BlowYouAway: Katsuragi incorporates the element of Wind into her techniques.
** RazorWind: The Strike Cannon.
** TornadoMove: The Tornado Spindle.
** ThisIsADrill: Dead Screw Dragon.
* ButtMonkey: Especially in the manga adaptations, where she tends to provide slapstick comedy as a result of the girls retaliating against her perverted antics.
* ChargeAttack: Her special gimmick, with nearly all of her attacks chargeable.
* ChivalrousPervert: Perverted definitely, but with a strong sense of justice.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Her perverted behavior can hide the fact that she's actually a very powerful shinobi.
* DanceBattler: Some of her moves incorporate break dancing.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:She is fighting to [[ToBeAMaster prove herself the strongest]] and re-establish the lost honor of her family, after her parents refused to kill Kurokage. The catch is that [[LastOfHerKind she hasn't seen them for years and they could have very well been dead for all this time]].]]
** [[spoiler:It turns out that her parents are alive, but she must fight to save them in the Battle Royale.]]
** [[spoiler:It gets even worse as Katsuragi either has to kill Yozakura to free her parents or they will die if she doesn't. She makes the decision of sacrificing her parents to keep Yozakura alive because she knows that her parents wouldn't want her to make that choice.]]
* DifficultButAwesome: Being the [[MightyGlacier type of character she is]], she controls rather stiffly compared to the other Hanzō girls. Not only that, it's trickier to pull a long chain of combos most of the time. However, if one were to get the hang of Kat's FoeTossingCharge and timing to keep a steady combo, she can be very deadly.
* DivingKick: Bloody Dragon.
* DontThinkFeel: This is her ''excuse'' for entering the cooking tournament in ''Bon Appetit''.
* DragonsUpTheYinYang: Her ninja animal is the dragon after all.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: [[spoiler:Her choice not to kill Yozakura to save her parents and telling her why not only causes Yozakura to realize she didn't consider Kurokage's feelings, but to finally admit defeat, allowing her to complete the task to win her fight and save her parents from being killed.]]
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Well, it's not as if Asuka puts up a lot of resistance toward Katsu-nee's attentions. Ayame takes it further, with a few off-screen "things" in ''Peach Beach Splash'' that she's too embarrassed to say out loud.
* EveryoneHasStandards: As perverted as she is, in ''Estival Versus'', she's disturbed when Sayuri jokingly offers to tell them her measurements and [[TooMuchInformation first time with Hanzō]].
* {{Expy}}: A blonde-haired, HotBlooded shinobi who loves ramen, is rather perverted, ''rarely thinks about her actions before she does it'', [[spoiler:lost both of her parents at an early age]], and utilises the Wind element in their techniques? Sounds quite a lot like [[Manga/{{Naruto}} another hot-blooded, blonde ninja from another series]].
* ExtremityExtremist: Almost all of her attacks are kick based.
* FingerPokeOfDoom: Katsuragi's Strike Cannon flicks her middle fingers with enough force to create ''RazorWind''.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: In the anime, she slaps Ikaruga when she starts to panic about how she can't undo the Shinobi Kekkai barrier.
* GoldenSuperMode: While everyone has this in ''Burst'', as the use of Life or Death mode (Frantic in localizations) gives the girls a surging golden aura, Katsuragi, with her hotblooded nature and love of fighting, as well as golden hair and green eyes, deserves her own personal mention. Why? ''She looks and fights like a Super Saiyan.''
* HypocriticalHumor: Doesn't like being groped. She also doesn't like seeing people sexually harass others, despite doing it ''all the time''.
-->'''Katsuragi:''' I'm always up for copping a good feel, but I can't stand seeing sexual harassment. I think you need an ass-kicking, self-defense style!
* HotBlooded: She brings skinship to a whole new level: if someone won't open their heart to her the social way, then it's duel time.
* IdiotHero: Subtlety is not her forte.
* InSeriesNickname: Katsu-nee (Kat in the English localization), but only by Asuka.
* JapaneseDelinquents: By proxy, considering that how she wears her shirts (with a shortened skirt and cleavage) is reminiscent of yankii, she loves fighting, how she acts and talks in a crude manner, and considering her background of being abandoned, it's safe to assume she would have adopted this lifestyle.
* JokeItem: Takeout Ramen Boxes and a pair of oversized, silly shoes in ''Deep Crimson''.
* KickChick: Equips greaves on her feet.
* TheLadette: Between the [[SkinshipGrope constant sexual harassment]], the [[SirSwearsALot foul language]], the [[BloodKnight love of fighting]], and the [[{{Stripperiffic}} lack of decorum]], Katsuragi would be just as at home in a rowdy college fraternity as in this series.

** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfhShFVmP-c A Nice, Simple, Head-to-Head Brawl!]]
* LimitBreak:
** Cross Panzer - She does a series of kicks with her feet covered in green energy, ending with a powerful axe kick.
** Tornado Spindle - She does a breakdance spin that [[TornadoMove creates a whirlwind.]]
** Dead Screw Dragon - She does a drilling kick forward while a green dragon flies around her.
** Strike Cannon (Aerial, ''Burst'') - she flicks both her hands, causing a big shockwave
** Bloody Dragon (Aerial, ''Deep Crimson'')
** Hikage Strike (With Hikage, ''Deep Crimson'')
** Cool Your Head (With Ikaruga, ''Deep Crimson'')
* MagicSkirt: Obviously not seen anywhere, but here's a variation; try a Magic ''Shirt''. Despite it just being a normal unbuttoned shirt, [[NippleAndDimed it never reveals her nipples]]. You could swear the damn thing's glued on.
** When it's destroyed, she has a bizarre breast-harness under it that shouldn't be able to stay on without the aid of either magic or lots of body tape. To make things even more magic, the thing's very existence contradicts her insistence that she doesn't wear anything under her uniform.
* MightyGlacier: High attack but a bit slow. Can be even more of both using her charge mechanic.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: This girl just does ''not'' know how to keep her hands to herself.
* NotQuiteFlight: In ''Shinovi Versus'', Katsuragi is one of the few characters capable of limited gliding. While unexplained in anyone else, for Katsuragi, her gliding may actually stem from her Wind abilities.
* PassingTheTorch: In ''Peach Beach Splash'' with her impending graduation she passes the title of "school perv" to Ayame.
* PrecisionFStrike: In ''Burst'', she once says the phrase, "You're all a bunch of ''pussies!''" during a visual novel-style cutscene. It's quite foul for a T-rated game.
* RedOniBlueOni: Red to Ikaruga and Hikage's blue oni.
* SadClown: At the root of all of her grope-happiness, boisterousness, and stubborn refusal to seriously sit and think about her past or the future. She eventually cops to having an overblown facade when the situation of her parents comes to light; while a DarkAndTroubledPast is hardly unique amongst Shinobi students, her problem weighs heavily on her because it's ''still there''...but she's a third-year student with an atmosphere to uphold for her underclassmen. Her [[{{Leitmotif}} theme songs]] help sell it: instead of the upbeat, spirited tunes you'd expect, they sound turbulent, serious, and extremely determined.
* SignatureLaugh: ''EEE SHI SHI SHI SHI''
* SkinshipGrope: Accepted as a [[UnusuallyUninterestingSight daily occurence]] in Hanzō. The only one who minds is Yagyū, and [[ViolentlyProtectiveGirlFriend only when]] [[BigSisterInstinct she does it to Hibari]].
* SpinAttack: Several of Katsuragi's attacks incorporating spinning or drilling motions into them. While the most notable is the Tornado Spindle, one of the most impressive is the Dead Screw Dragon, which involves channeling an energy dragon around her body and spinning while drilling into her target.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: For some reason, she rarely buttons her shirt. [[spoiler:This has to do with the fact that Ikaruga slashed open those buttons when she first opened to her. Being unbuttoned is a symbol of relationship.]] It actually extends to ''Peach Beach Special'', where she doesn't tie the front of her bikini together.
* ThouShaltNotKill: in ''Shinovi Versus'', she is is really torn when Yozakura refuses to yield after their fight, claiming she will continue fighting till Katsuragi kills her; the catch is Katsuragi has to win her fight to save her parents. She regains her composure when Hikage tell her she much prefers the Katsuragi who have mindless fun when fighting.
* {{Tomboy}}: She's described as this, but it's [[TheLadette more like]] she's a perverted boy born into a feminine-looking girl's body.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Her hotblooded and brash attitude makes her the tomboy to Ikaruga's girly girl.
* TrickedOutShoes: Not only are her greaves razor-sharp, they can also pull out what are essentially wind spurs.
* {{Underboobs}}: Featured in episode 4 of the anime adaptation.
* VocalDissonance: Her voice is fairly deep for a girl who's supposed to be 18. It actually tends to vary - her deeper voice only seems to come out when she's feeling particularly hot-blooded or shocked.

A first-year student at Hanzō National Academy. She’s only just begun her training this year, yet she knows that the shinobi world is ruthless and is fully prepared to accept that way of life. This resolution is born from the considerable power she wields, but it’s approval she seeks above all else; she exists to be acknowledged by her fellow shinobi class members.

Although she’s rather taciturn most days, her need for acceptance occasionally causes her to come across as lonely. Being the same age as Hibari, the two of them have formed something of a sisterly bond, making Hibari one of the few people to whom she’ll willingly open up to.

Her primary weapon is the bladed oilpaper umbrella she always carries on her. Her Ninpo is centered around squids, and she has an affinity for the Rain-element.

----
* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: Yagyū will ''always'' save Hibari, no matter how much hell she has to go through to do it.
-->'''Yagyū:''' I don't mind you leaning on me. Anytime you call... I-I'll come running...
* AnIcePerson / MakingASplash: Most of her attacks are ice-based, though a few also incorporate water.
* BerserkButton: Do '''NOT''', in any way, harm Hibari. Doing so is a certified death wish. Even jokingly, as Katsuragi found out in an early scene in SV. Apparently, Yagyū is the only one who can stop Katsu-nee's "friendly" gropings.
** Also, calling her fat. Her supposedly big belly is apparently her most charming feature.
* TheBerserker: Especially if Hibari is in danger.
* BigSisterInstinct: The reason she's so protective of Hibari. [[spoiler:Yagyu had a little sister who died in a car accident. Hibari happens to look identical to her so Yagyu became extremely attached to her and swore to protect her.]]
* CatchPhrase: ''Anshin shiro: Hibari wa Ore ga mamoru. ("Fear not: I will protect you, Hibari.")''
* ChildProdigy: She's very young and her shinobi potential is massive. And she has the attitude to match.
* ClingyJealousGirl: She doesn't like having Haruka around Hibari and acts very possessive around her.
** Exaggerated in ''New Link'', where she expresses jealousy at seeing Hibari spending time with Ui and Kazakiri....who are her cousins.
* CombatTentacles: Some of her normal attacks has her using a squid tentacle, and she can summon one to do the same.
* CovertPervert: Where she is usually really stoic, she can have some perverted fantasies about Hibari, usually accompanying with her nose bleeding.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:She used to have a little sister named Nozomi, who died in a car accident years ago. The deceased sister [[ReplacementGoldfish looked exactly like Hibari]].]]
* DeclarationOfProtection: Frequently, toward Hibari.
* EyepatchOfPower: [[spoiler:She wears it to remind her of her dead sister, and to keep her powers under control.]]
* FlyingSeafoodSpecial: In the [[ShootEmUp Hipster DLC]] for ''Deep Crimson'', her form of transportation is to fly on top of her squid summon.
* GirlishPigtails: Her hair is styled in a pair of them.
* GlassCannon: Her defense is very low but her overall attack power is pretty good and her secret arts do a lot of damage and are perfect for fighting multiple enemies. As compared to Ikaruga, she's a bit tougher, but also a bit less damaging -- but has useful projectile attacks that Ikaruga lacks.
* HatesBeingAlone: [[spoiler:After Hibari transferred to Hebijo to get back the Super Secret Ninja Scroll, Yagyū vowed to get her back, stating she absolutely cannot be without Hibari. Yagyū is not only afraid of losing Hibari, in whom she sees her younger sister who died, but afraid of winding up alone again.]]
* HeyYou: Tends to use disrespectful [[UsefulNotes/JapanesePronouns pronouns]] like ''onore'' ("oneself") and ''kisama'' ("you (lowly)"), even for people she's quite fond of or close to.
* IncestSubtext: [[spoiler:Yagyu wants to protect Hibari because she's a ReplacementGoldfish for her dead sister, Nozomi. This casts her crush in a... somewhat different light.]]

** Sweeping Legs - She lifts her umbrella up and summons a giant squid that will [[SpinAttack spin around]], sweeping its legs to smack enemies around her.
** Ice Feet - she lifts her umbrella up and summons a giant squid that throws ice chunks around that freezes enemies.
** Demon Slice (''Versus'' series) - she opens up her eyepatch and multiple red demonic tentacles madly whip out of her right eye.
** Tentacle Downpour (Aerial, ''Burst'') - she [[DeathFromAbove rains multiple icicles from above.]]
* LovingAShadow: [[spoiler:She became attached to Hibari because she looks exactly like her deceased little sister.]]
* MagicalEye: Yagyu's eyepatch conceals her right eye. Shiki refers to this as the 'Devil's Eye', a ninja art that seals a Secret Ninja Art into the user's eye, and is repressed with an eyepatch. When the eyepatch is removed, it activates Yagyu's Ultimate Secret Ninja art, causing her eyes to glow a deep crimson and expel cuttlefish tentacles.
* MysticalWhiteHair: Her white hair hints at her mysterious personality.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Her name and eyepatch are likely taken from UsefulNotes/YagyuJubei.
* NoSenseOfHumor: She is probably the most serious about what it means to be a ninja among the Hanzō students.
* ParasolOfPain: Which also [[SwordCane hides a sword]], at least in anime. In the games, the ribs of the umbrella sprout out blades instead.

* TragicKeepsake: A variant. Where her eyepatch didn't belong to any one, she uses [[spoiler:one of her dead sister's hair ribbons]] to tie it.

A first-year student at Hanzō National Academy. Although she was born into a long line of prestigious shinobi, she feels as if her skills are somewhat lacking. Espionage is her strongest suit, but she’s still a bit immature (like most blooming adults are wont to be) and tends to be the troublemaker in her shinobi class.

Still, she works hard in everything she does and is beloved by her entire class due to her single-minded attitude and entirely genuine nature.

With a deceptive fighting style, ever shifting in appearance, her Ninpo centers around rabbits, including Ninto. Hibari's elemental affinity is that of Lightning.

* BerserkButton: Don't say you own her. Yagyu and Haruka found that out in ''Estival Versus'', and it was not pretty.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Sure, Hibari is your average CuteClumsyGirl but if there's one thing to take into consideration, ''DO NOT SAY'' in front of her that "you own her"! Otherwise you'd be on the receiving end of her rage fit and she'll fight very seriously, as Yagyū and Haruka learned the hard way.
* BigEater: A bit of a glutton for sweets despite her small frame. Most of the time it's just her appetite, and then other times it's stress eating.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:By the BigBad in the Hebijo story]].
* BreakTheCutie: In spades in the second and third chapter of the Hanzō story. [[spoiler:She actually ends up asking Haruka to turn her into a doll with her final screw up.]] She gets better, though.
* BunniesForCuteness: Her ninja animal is the bunny.
* CheeryPink: Her hair and Shinobi outfit are both pale pink, and she's always [[GenkiGirl bursting with energy]].
* ChildLikeVoice: In the games, she gets a high-pitched, cutesy one courtesy of Creator/YukaIguchi.
* CutenessProximity: She loves cute things. It probably influenced her Ninpo's appearance as well.
* CuteClumsyGirl: One of her major aesthetics is this. Her attacks and general combat style are incredibly clumsy but cute (one example being that her sprints always end with a FacePlant), even in later games where she's supposed to have worked on her coordination.
* CuteLittleFangs: Most prominent in the manga, but some of her official art shows her with them.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: ''Shinovi Versus'' reveals that not even her life was as peachy as you may think: [[spoiler:She never wanted to become a shinobi. However, because she was the only one of her brothers and sisters to receive the [[DangerousForbiddenTechnique "Kagan"]], she was made to pursue the shinobi path, not helped by the fact that no one got ever got mad at her and kept on helping her with a smile, no matter how much she screwed up]].
* DifficultButAwesome: She's extremely weird to play as and a bit silly, as well as a bit hard to get used to at first, but over time she'll become extremely powerful. It helps that her attacks can apply the lightning effect and lock her opponents in place.
* EveryoneHasStandards: As cutesy and immature as Hibari is, she still thinks [[{{Womanchild}} Minori]] acts like an overgrown child, and she tells Haruka as much.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: She has a pretty peculiar iris, shaped like a pink flowery cross. Her eye pattern is the sign of a [[DangerousForbiddenTechnique family technique]] which allow her to manipulate people's minds; she has yet to master it, though.
* {{Expy}}: She's basically [[Anime/QueensBlade Cute]] from the ''Spiral Chaos'' games, except having a bigger rack, compared with the [[ACupAngst original]].
* FaceHeelTurn: [[spoiler:[[SubvertedTrope Subverted.]] See TheMole below.]]
* FlyingOnACloud: She rides on [[KillerRabbit Ninto's]] storm cloud in some of her Ninpos.
* GeniusDitz: Her skills need improvement combat wise, but when it comes to espionage, she has this area down pat.
* GenkiGirl: Despite constantly doing badly, she rarely feels down for long.
* GiantFootOfStomping: For her Ultimate Ninja Art, she magically grows to gigantic proportions and then stomps the everloving crap out of everything on screen.
* GirlishPigtails: Hers are much smaller than Yagyu's, but they still add to the [[BadassAdorable cuteness]] of her design.
* GirlyBruiser: She might be decked out in bright pink from [[RoseHairedSweetie head]] to toe, but she's still a ninja.
* GoombaStomp: One of her weak aerial attacks in Burst. Requires precision, but it's well worth it.
* TheHeart: Pleaded to her teammates to not defeat the Hebijo girls [[spoiler:because they have a killswitch in them]].
* HypnoticEyes: The Kagan's primary ability is the ability to control both people and objects, allowing Hibari to perform a kind of ninja puppetry.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: Hibari never wanted to be a ninja, and never asked for her eyes to manifest as the Kagan. If she could, she'd give everything away if she tried, and desperately just wants to be someone who ''isn't'' special.
* {{Irony}}: Hibari's Kagan grants her puppeteer-like abilities... meanwhile, Haruka, for quite a long time, wanted Hibari to be nothing more than her puppet.
* JokeItem: Boxer Ninto and Bunny Cakes for ''Deep Crimson''.
* KillerRabbit: If she is competent enough. Being a playable character, she probably will be.
* {{Leitmotif}}:

* LethalKlutz: Some of her [[CuteClumsyGirl klutziness]] can be used as an attack, allowing Hibari to defeat her enemies by tripping over them.
* LimitBreak:
** Ninto Vroom - she rides on a mini thundercloud as it jets away frantically, crashing through enemies along the way.
** Enlarge (''Burst'', ''Deep Crimson'') - [[AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever she turns gigantic]] and then [[GiantFootOfStomping does a powerful stomp.]]
** Butt Go Boom! (''Versus'' series) - [[AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever she turns gigantic]], then proceeds to step forwards twice before [[AssKicksYou falling on her butt]], all of which does damage to a lot of foes.
** Crazy Rabbit - Ninto appears with his thundercloud and then starts bombarding the surroundings with thunder strikes.
** My Abundant Butt (Aerial, ''Burst'')
** Press Saddle Buns (With Haruka, ''Deep Crimson'')
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: She's Yagyu's entire reason for living.
* TheLoad: Significantly underskilled compared to her teammates. It's usually Yagyū who comes to her rescue. Hibari herself is very much not fond of her own inability to keep up with her team in general shinobi skills.
* LoveTriangle: Haruka and Yagyū compete with each other for Hibari's affections. The two challengers meet at a cafe to discuss their experiences with Hibari; suffice so say, it ends with an enraged Yagyu giving chase to Haruka.
* MagicalEye: Hibari's family's genetic skill is the 'Kagan', an eye-based ability that manifests as a floral-pattern in the eye around puberty.
* MaleGaze: In particular, a lot of her animations like to show off her butt. Fitting, as [[AssKicksYou she fights with it]].
* PinkMeansFeminine: There are other characters with pink scheme, but she embodies this trope the best.
* RedOniBlueOni: Red to Yagyū and Haruka's blue.
* ReplacementGoldfish: [[spoiler:Yagyu became fond of Hibari because she looks identical to her deceased little sister.]]
* TheMole: [[spoiler:Transfers to ''Hebijo'' in order to regain a lost item.]]
* RoseHairedSweetie: Her hair is pink and she's really adorable and cheerful.
* SchoolSportUniform: Her Shinobi outfit is essentially the typical gym uniform often seen in anime, though she also wears a track jacket over it.
* ShockAndAwe: She has to ability to inflict shock damage in some of her attacks.
* {{Sizeshifter}}: Her later [[LimitBreak Ninja Arts]] allow her to [[GiantWoman turn gigantic]] and [[GiantFootOfStomping stomp all over]] her enemies.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: In ''New Link'', it's stated she looks like Sekirei, a shinobi that lived around 12th century and one of Toki's few friends.
* SpoiledSweet: She comes from a prestigious ninja family and gets spoiled by theme a lot, but she still ends up being a pretty sweet girl. However, this trope is {{Deconstructed}}, as she laments being too spoiled and not taken seriously for her any of her mistakes.
* SweetTooth: She even ends up swimming in a sea of sweets in her Bon ''Appétit'' ending.
* {{Telepathy}}: [[spoiler:In the anime, Kiriya taught her telepathy without her knowing about it, which manifested itself around the end of the anime.]]
* ThirdPersonPerson: Hibari likes to refer to herself by name, but this is only present in the Japanese dialogue of the games, with the English releases not bothering to keep it in. The English release of the managa, however, ''does'' retain this quirk to Hibari's dialogue.
* UnskilledButStrong: Her attack animations can't be described as anything other than wild flailing and constantly falling down. She's still just as able to take on massive armies as her teammates.

-->''I hope you haven't gotten rusty, Rin. This is a battlefield, not a lecture hall.''

A third year at Hanzō Academy, Daidōji is a senior student who is well-respected by the other students. She possesses immense strength and agility and prefers to run into battle head-on rather than hide in the shadows.

Daidōji doesn't use weapons, instead harnessing the power of her fists and legs.

----
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: [[AllThereInTheManual Supplemental material]] reveals this as the reason behind her dedication to training and her particular shinobi getup. [[https://imgur.com/z7FRq8w Deep in her subconscious, she's convinced that no matter how much she trains or how much stronger she becomes, she will never be as good as a male shinobi.]]
* AmazonianBeauty: She's extremely muscular. While her outfit does cover most of her body it leaves her torso exposed, which shows off her very large breasts, barely supported by a {{sarashi}}, and her well-defined abs.
** As of ''Peach Beach Splash'' her muscles grow much larger when she undergoes her shinobi transformation, similar to how Ryoubi's breasts grow during her transformation. In her usual form, Daidōji has a much more slender build, similar to everybody else.
* AmbiguouslyGay: Daidoji's never actually stated herself to be in love with or attracted to Rin, but her behavior towards Rin in recent installments raises quite a few eyebrows.
* ArtEvolution: Nan went on to draw Daidōji with more muscle mass as the series continued, in the character's original debut the artwork for Daidōji made her have roughly the same body build as the other girls but with some toned muscles, her abs in particular. In his current art style, Daidōji’s face is a bit more stern and rough looking compared to her early days, however, her in-game model didn’t follow the same trend, as of ''New Link'' it still is aligned with her debut appearance.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: Despite the fierce rivalry they've had since high school, she and Rin are each other's best friends. Later games imply that they often go eat dinner together.
** [[https://twitter.com/yaegasinan/status/1229217601500237824 Nan drew a sketch of them]] enjoying dinner together, with Daidōji playfully punching Rin in the shoulder.
* BadassBoast: ''Ikki tō'oku (一騎当億, "One-man Army")'' or ''"One horseman standing up to a '''hundred million men".''''' written on the back of her coat.
* BadassLongcoat: One with the kanji for ''Ikki tō'oku (一騎当億, "One-man Army")'' written on its back. Normally the idiom is written ''Ikki tōsen (一騎当千)'', roughly translating as ''"One horseman standing up to a thousand men"'', but Daidōji's phrase replaces the last kanji with ''oku (億)'', changing it to ''"One horseman standing up to a '''hundred million men".'''''
* BareFistedMonk: She is one of few characters who lacks a weapon of some sort. She only fights with the raw power of her fists with occasional kicks here and there.
* BeyondTheImpossible: ''Estival Versus'' has her punching through ''space and time itself'' out of sheer rage. All the while time was frozen.
* BigEater: Able to eat comically huge slabs of roast meat with ease.
* BloodKnight: Now that she has settled things with Rin, her only goal in life is to find stronger rivals, all in pursuit of the Path of the Shinobi – or, as she calls it, the ''beauty of death''.
* BookDumb: ''Estival Versus'' [[{{Flanderization}} being what it is]], translates Daidoji's desire for strength into being DumbMuscle, with basic multiplication being the equivalent of college-level math for her.
* TheComicallySerious: Her stoicism makes for some very amusing interactions with the rest of the cast.
* DeathGlare: Just a cold glance from her is potent enough to stop even Katsuragi's sexual harassment shenanigans dead in their tracks without a single word. Outright weaponized in ''Deep Crimson'', where, as a defensive action, she can halt the first half of her combos to cross her arms and glare. This has enough physical impact to send just about any foe flying.
* DigitalBikini: Wears a Japanese Fundoshi as her bikini if she receives enough clothing damage or if she's in frantic mode. While normally a thong, in ''Burst'' her fundoshi has extra wrappings that cover her cheeks. Likely due to a glitch of some sort, these wrappings often appear as large patches of completely untextured white.
* TheDreaded: Ikaruga and Katsuragi had every right to be afraid of this woman during their first year at Hanzō.
** Homura first runs into her while visiting Hanzō academy in ''Shinovi Versus'', in the process of mouthing off to Kiriya. Homura has no knowledge of her, but Daidōji's imposing atmosphere is enough that Homura's habitual rudeness completely fails her, and she ''forgets'' to be belligerent.
** According to a [[https://web.archive.org/web/20180807162445/https://0r0ch1r1s1ng.com/ site]] put together by XSEED to promote the steam release of ''Shinovi Versus'', even ''[[BigBad Dougen]]'' fears her.
--->'''Dougen:''' Do not engage in direct combat. Do not provoke. [[BerserkButton Do not harm her best friend Suzune unless absolutely necessary.]] Let her focus on her training, and keep your own threat level just low and subtle enough that Hanzō won’t feel the need to call her in (until it’s too late, of course).\
'''Threat Level: Extreme'''
* DumbMuscle: Present only in her appearances in the Sony games (Since ''Bon Appetit'' onwards) where the staff has taken her stoicism [[{{Flanderization}} to the extremes]] for comedy's sake. The best example of this is her Dual Heart's story in ''Estival Versus'' where she suddenly clams up after being asked some extremely basic multiplication table questions by Rin. She defends herself by claiming that it's only natural she doesn't know such "college-level" math.
* {{Fundoshi}}: [[GenderInvertedTrope A rare female example]]. In keeping with her [[JapaneseDelinquents banchou]] chic, she wears these loincloths in place of any sort of panties. She also tends to complain about being made to wear anything that ''isn't'' a fundoshi.
* GuestFighter: A DLC character in Takaki's game Uppers, making her the third character in the series to star in a crossover (the others being Yumi and Homura).
* HeldBackInSchool: To be more specific, she is holding herself back from graduating before she can defeat Rin, and has been doing this for ten years.
* HeroicBuild: She's much more muscular than any of the other girls.
** As of ''Peach Beach Splash'' it has been retconned that her musculature is part of the shinobi transformation, similar to the way Ryoubi increases her bust size while transformed.
* HonorBeforeReason: Daidouji refuses to graduate until she's had a proper match with Rin. Rin died several years ago on a mission, so Daidouji just trains and doesn't attend classes anymore. [[spoiler:Has no idea that Rin [[FaceHeelTurn is currently the sensei of Hebijo Academy]].]]
** [[spoiler:She learns of Rin's fate during ''Versus''' events and regularly teams up with her in subsequent games]]
* HopelessSuitor: If she actually IS in love with Rin, this very much applies to her. She essentially has no chance with Rin, [[spoiler:considering how open the latter is in wanting Kiriya.]] [[spoiler:Daidoji herself recognizes this in Peach Beach Splash, and challenges Kiriya for the right to be Rin's "most important person".]]
* HotForTeacher: Technically, she is still a student and Rin is a teacher, do the math.
** Her version from the ''Guren no Hebi'' manga is a classic example of this trope given her not so subtly interest in Kiriya.
* HugeSchoolgirl: She's technically this due to her refusing to graduate. While the anime portrays her as being practically the same size when she was a proper student as she is now, a passing mention from Rin about her time at school together on ''Shinovi Versus'' implies this wasn't the case when Daidouji was younger on the games.
* HulkingOut: This happens when she undergoes her shinobi transformation, causing Daidōji's slender body to turn into AmazonianBeauty.
* ImageSong: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1AZTFdqcHc The Path Of The Raging Demon]] in ''Bon Appétit''.
* JapaneseDelinquents: Visually, in her transformed state she's a walking reference to the ''Banchou'' archetype (long school coat embroidered with her name, WildHair, {{Sarashi}}, CommissarCap) While in her regular appearance, she's a reference to the ''Sukeban'' archetype (Lengthened skirt, [[DelinquentHair Dirty Blonde Hair]]).
* TheJuggernaut: This woman's monstrous strength also makes her nearly impossible to take down. This was also evident in past New Wave events where she was an event boss [[HopelessBossFight whose only purpose was to help players climb up the damage rankings]]. As you could expect, absolutely nothing would work.
* JokeItem: Huge slabs of meat tied to her wrists and 100t weights worn around her wrists in ''Deep Crimson''
* LargeHam: The woman lacks an indoor voice.
* {{Leitmotif}}:

** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y08rrho9Xgs To My Comrades]]
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: Daidōji depicts both sides of the trope depending on which side of her shinobi transformation is focused on. With her pre-transformation look, a lot of her art shows her as being an elegant and mature blonde woman with some of them still showing her willingness to fight. With her post-transformation look, more and more of later artwork dials up the testosterone to show just how powerful she is with only some of them depicting the beauty she still has.
* LimitBreak:
** Heaven and Earth Rumbling Spiral Leg - a HurricaneKick ending with a DivingKick
** Heaven and Earth Flash War Wild Tiger Fist - a powerful golden KamehameHadoken in the form of a Tiger head that plows through crowds of enemies
** Heaven and Earth Thunder God Dragon Ball Fist - she rushes forward delivering multiple punches and kicks, then does a vicious RapidfireFisticuffs.
** Heaven and Earth Falling Hundred Million Violent Echo Fist (Aerial, ''Burst'') - RapidfireFisticuffs hitting every enemy on the ground.
** Yell Gun (With Asuka, ''Deep Crimson'') - She combines her ki with Asuka's to launch a powerful KamehameHadoken hitting every enemy on screen. The effort is too much for Asuka, who falls exhausted after it.
* LiteralMinded: Present in the Sony games from ''Bon Appetit'' onwards where she can't parse any kind of information without filtering through her own interest in fighting.
** In ''Bon Appetit'' she leaves on a trip to the depths of Africa to find AND fight the greatest warrior alive: ''[[StockNessMonster Mokele-Mbembe]]''
** In ''Estival Versus'' when Rin suggests that a lack of femininity is a personal weakness of Daidōji's, she immediately perceives this as a major flaw in her ''physical defenses'' and sets about attempting to gather more "feminine power", as she calls it. When Yumi suggests that she start with her coarse manner of speech, she takes that literally as well and proceeds to steal speech quirks from the girls she comes across - starting with Yumi's embarrassing VerbalTic.
** ''Estival Versus'' also throws a reference to her ''Bon Appetit'' story in the opening narration for her Girl's Heart story, where she once again states her interest in facing different creatures in combat, like a Yeti, a Dragon, a UFO or a ''black hole''. For the last one, Daidōji thinks that there must be a powerful warrior at the center of a black hole since nothing can escape from one.
* KiManipulation: From Versus onwards she's able to launch {{Energy Ball}}s.
* MegatonPunch: Her signature move in ''Burst''. If she catches you on the ground when her HP is in the red, she ''will'' use an unavoidable, OneHitKill dragon punch. From Versus onwards has been demoted to a regular ninja art.
* MightyGlacier: She hits like a tank, but she is also the slowest character out of the whole cast, so keeping a high hit count with her during a mission is harder to do.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Her model in ''Burst'' has a dark layer of CelShading applied to it, something that everyone else lacks. This makes her more intimidating, but it vanishes after she takes ClothingDamage. She loses it in every subsequent game.
** The dark layer vanishing is fitting, as upon suffering clothing damage Daidouji loses her wild, menacing black wig, revealing her much more feminine golden locks of hair, making her look overall less intimidating.
* NoShirtLongJacket: Helped by wearing a sarashi around her chest.
* OneWomanArmy: Even by the standards of the shinobi, Daidōji is regarded as par with a force of nature when it comes to combat. In ''Deep Crimson'' she takes on dozens of Youma by ''herself''.
* OralFixation: Carries a twig in her mouth in ''Deep Crimson''.
* OutOfFocus: Her presence in the series keeps getting smaller and smaller as time goes on. As of 2023 she's virtually nonexistent in merchandising, and had the lowest amount of cards in New Wave among all the original cast, her presence in the Shinobi Master anime amounted to two brief, nonspeaking cameos in episodes 8 and 11, and has the lowest amount of units in ''New Link'' and the smallest role in its story.
* RapidFireFisticuffs: Her Aerial Ninpo has her unleash one of these, with almost full-screen range.
** In ''Deep Crimson'' she gains the ability to spam these during her combos.
** They're a part of her Ultimate Ninpo and the finisher for her regular combo string in ''Estival Versus''
* RedEyesTakeWarning: {{Downplayed|Trope}}; she's certainly a dangerous shinobi, and has the red eyes to match, but is a heroic woman.
* RedOniBlueOni: Red to Suzune's blue oni.
* TheRival: To the extreme, with Rin [[spoiler:aka Suzune]]. She refuses to graduate until she has a proper match with Rin. Keep in mind that Rin was declared KIA. [[spoiler:Of course, it turns out she was right to wait]].
* SignatureHeadgear: A hat that looks like [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure Jotaro Kujo's]]. Wearing it changes her normally-blonde hair to black, thus creating her signature look. [[spoiler:She started wearing it sometime after Rin went missing, since when they meet years later, Rin didn't recognize Daidouji at first due in part to the difference in hair color]].
* SingleTargetSexuality: Her recent infatuation with Rin is an example of this, as she has absolutely no interest in romance beyond deepening her relationship with her one rival.
* {{Sarashi}}: She wears the wraps under her jacket; she's also got a {{fundoshi}} to complete the look.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: Her gravure scenes in ''Bon Appétit''.
* SheCleansUpNicely: Several CG images in ''Bon Appétit'' show her without her wig and in several regular outfits, and she is ''gorgeous!''
* SheIsAllGrownUp: Daidouji has changed so much over the course of ten years that Rin doesn't recognize her when they meet again for the first time on ''Shinovi Versus''
-->'''Rin:''' The Daidouji I knew was a cute blonde girl. If this is indeed the same person, I can't recognize her anymore.
* SpiritedCompetitor: Surprisingly enough for someone as driven as her (and in stark contrast to her counterpart Rin), she seems to value the concept of winning in itself very little - the few times she's beaten, she immediately takes the loss in stride. In ''Shinovi Versus'', it's strongly implied during a flashback that one of the bigger reasons she never "won" against Rin in their time together was that she had no real intention of taking the fight that far - just fighting Rin was enough for her.
* StatuesqueStunner: Nearly the tallest. Nearly the bustiest.
* TheStoic: The same determination that drives her training is present in every aspect of her life, making her seem aloof and distant... At least, [[LargeHam until she has a good fight]].
* SuperToughness: In ''Deep Crimson'' she can spend a shinobi scroll to gain this, while active she can't be stunned by enemy attacks nor get her attacks interrupted.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Her recent interactions with Rin have defaulted to this trope, with Daidouji as the Tomboy.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Meat, especially the aforementioned slabs of meat.
* UnflinchingWalk: Only applicable in ''Burst'' where Daidōji is the only character who has this as her default speed, the only time she ever runs is when dashing.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: ''Deep Crimson'' reveals that after being defeated by Rin in their first battle shortly after enrolling in Hanzō Academy, she [[RunningAWayToCry ran away to cry]] behind the school's gym.
** A [[https://twitter.com/yaegasinan/status/1229189747228037121 sketch drawn by Nan]] shows she looked essentially the same as she does now in her regular appearance when she was younger.
* WarriorPoet: In marked contrast to her appearance, her style of speech tends heavily towards the flowery, down to using archaic pronouns for herself and dated insults (foolish one and dead man being favorites) for others. Most significantly, she insistently spells Shinobi as 'shi-no-bi', beauty in/of death, rather than using the normal kanji denoting "hidden". She maintains this attitude since there's nothing hidden about her, and she's not a liar.
* WarriorTherapist: Her role in the 3DS games, every time the girls get in a slump she shows up to challenge them, helping them to face their doubts and move forward in the process.

Kiriya is the Shinobi class instructor at Hanzō Academy. Born to a long line if shinobi, it was decided at an early age that Kiriya would follow suit. Despite having immense aptitude for the way of the Shinobi, Kiriya grew disgusted with the [[HonorBeforeReason way that shinobi had to risk their lives with each mission]], and turned to the teaching department instead. He strives to build his students into full-fledged shinobi. Due to tragic circumstances involving a former student, he tries not to interfere too much with his current shinobi-in-training. Kiriya believes in teaching his students everything he knows, while giving them the independence to be strong on their own.

He is a taciturn and strict teacher, but this is because of his high expectations for his students.

----
* AdaptationalBadass: In both the games and the anime, Kiriya doesn't often do much. In the manga, however, he fights all five of his students until evening, flawlessly transforming into each of the Hebijo girls on a dime, wielding their weapons and fighting with crushing physical skill. At the end of the fight, the girls only manage to rip Kiriya's tie before they're exhausted.
* BadassOnPaper: He supposedly was an elite shinobi in the past, and the "best of the best". Whatever skills he had besides explosive teleportation are never really shown.
* CoolTeacher: A shinobi sensei dressed in a black suit, with white hair, whose primary method of coming and going is body flickering, Kiriya definitely qualifies.
* {{Expy}}: He seems to be quite similar to [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Kakashi]]. A white-haired ninja master, who is now a stern teacher, raised from his youth to be a ninja, his parents were even ninja as well. [[spoiler:He even lost someone important to him on a mission in the past, and it pretty much has affected him throughout the rest of his life. And the lost one turns out to be alive and became a member of the [[FaceHeelTurn Enemies' Team]].]]
* GratuitousEnglish: Only in ''Peace Beach Splash'', but ''quite often'' there.
* InnocentInnuendo: From ''Shinovi Versus''.
-->''"That softness, the white, beautiful shape... That hypnotizing jiggle... That silky texture, the delicate sweetness filling your mouth... It is astounding! ...Tofu. I have a secret passion for tofu. ...Excuse me."''
* InformedAbility: Despite being described as an elite, he's rarely seen doing anything in the games or the anime. And, despite being a shinobi, he seems to be rather easy to trick, having been duped by the Hebijo girls ''at least'' twice, and just one clash with Suzune from Hebi left him injured in the anime. Perhaps being retired dulled his skills.
* LargeHamAnnouncer: When acting as a teacher, Kiriya is professional and quiet. As a announcer, he becomes enthusiastic and ''loud''. He completely cuts loose as the MC in ''Bon Appetit'' and takes it up a notch in ''Peach Beach Splash''.
* MyGreatestFailure: [[spoiler:He considers saving Rin during her Shinobi test (he saved her from getting shot by a doll before anyone could notice, thus allowing her to pass her test), allowing her to become a full-fledged Shinobi and leading to her dying on a mission a few months later, as the greatest failure of his life.]]
* {{Ninja}}: He has been doing this for a long time.
* NotDistractedByTheSexy: He has the tendency to ignore the sheer presence of the fanservice around him. This is finally averted in ''Peach Beach Splash'', however. The students don't hold it against him, seeing as how he held it back for so long.
* PaperThinDisguise: As Mr K., one of the announcers in ''Peach Beach Splash''. The girls' first reaction after he introduces himself is basically 'what is Kiriya-sensei doing on that stage?'
* OnlySaneMan: When faced by his students' antics. He even glosses over [[UnusuallyUninterestingSight Katsuragi's grope-happy tendency!]]
* RetiredBadass: According to [[spoiler:Rin]], Kiriya used to be an elite ninja, the best of the best. He's currently working as a shinobi sensei now, because, while missions pose the risk of death, teaching doesn't.
* SelfMadeOrphan: Heavily implied in the Top Secret Scrolls in ''Renewal'' that he was ordered to kill his own parents, which is the reason why Kiriya quit being a shinobi after he carried out the mission.
* SharpDressedMan: Always wears a pretty nice suit.
* SmokeOut: At least in anime, he really likes to use smoke bombs to either enter or exit places.
* SternTeacher: Consistently seen to be pretty strict with the girls during their training. [[JustifiedTrope Understandable]], as the training to become a shinobi is very arduous.

The legendary shinobi and Asuka's grandfather. He is a master that is very well known throughout the shinobi realm. Maikaku Special Duty Intel Department's Special Secret Intel Agent. In other words, he's also considered the founder of the shinobi squad.

With the prodigy shinobi's name as the foundation, Hanzō Academy was built for the sole purpose of conditioning future talents in this ancient art.

He is a generally friendly person and is very found of his granddaughter Asuka. He is also the provider of the futomaki that Asuka and friends are often seen eating which he prepares in his shop.

Like his grand-daughter, he has the ability to summon Tree Frogs.

----
* BatmanGambit: [[spoiler:He purposely instigated Yumi into wanting to declare Shinobi Battle Royale on Hanzo, and confirmed it as Wang Pai, just to help open their eyes to seeing a different viewpoint of good and evil, and was gambling his granddaughter's abilities and safety.]]
* TheBet: In the Hanzo story, back when they were students, he and Kurokage had a bet on whether it was possible to create a world of only good. [[spoiler:By Hanzo's own admission, Kurokage won, because Yumi was his light.]]
* BigGood: Being the head of the Hanzo school, he's the closest the series has to one.
* DirtyOldMan: {{Averted|Trope}} in the original ''Burst'', but [[CharacterizationMarchesOn in later games]], he admires the boobs of young ladies, openly lusting after shinobi young enough to be his granddaughter. Though he doesn't go much farther than just groping some of the girls.
* FlashStep: And Hanzo uses it to grope girls.
* FreakyFridayFlip: In an Estival Versus sidestory he switches bodies with Asuka and causes all sorts of havoc running around as her.
* HappilyMarried: [[spoiler:Has been married to Sayuri for a long time. In spite of his eccentricities, they do love each other.]]
* IWasQuiteALooker: Not to say he is [[https://imgur.com/a/OgaBi3W any less of a stud]] currently, but [[https://imgur.com/a/2crCBhH concept art]] shows that he was quite a {{Hunk}} in his younger years
* KickTheDog: He spends his first encounter with the Gessen girls groping them and stealing the food they were bringing Kurokage. He even mocks Yumi for not being "pure" anymore before leaving. [[spoiler:He was deliberately picking a fight, which makes him a Troll]].
* PowerPerversionPotential: Being a DirtyOldMan who's also an elite ninja is a horrifying combination against decency.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Has no problem with Hanzo school students starting to sympathize with Evil Shinobi, and encourages the girls to come to their own conclusions.
* RedOniBlueOni: The Blue to Kurokage's Red.
* RetiredBadass: Old as he is, Hanzo now spends most of his time running a Sushi shop. And he's STILL a badass.
* SecretIdentity: [[spoiler:Of Wang Pai, the Gessen Elite's teacher.]]
* StealthMentor: [[spoiler:To the girls at Gessen Academy, as Wang Pai.]]
* SupremeChef: Runs a sushi restaurant in his retirement. A damn good one, at that.
* {{Troll}}: At the start of Gessen's storyline in ''Shinovi Versus'', he appears out of nowhere to grope the Gessen girls. [[spoiler:It turns out he did this not ''just'' because he's a creep, but to [[GuileHero deliberately provoke them]] into starting the Shinobi Battle Royale.]]
* TheWonka: Flipping between legendary ninja and raging pervert. With a side of OpportunisticBastard. He tends to take advantage of the girls (especially Asuka) for his own perverse amusement. A good example is an anime special in which he tricks Asuka and Homura into "settling their rivalry" with a series of contests along the lines of "[[{{Fanservice}} who can fit into their too-small shirt the faster?]]"

For reasons of their own, the five former Hebijo Elites chose to let their school burn rather than defend it to the death. Six months later, they continue to pay for that decision. Together on the run, they live as renegades, eking out a menial living by day, keeping one eye open every night. With their school rebuilt and out for blood, it's only a matter of time before they face their final reckoning.
[[folder:In General]]
* AnimalMotifs: They all have different kinds of snakes as their motif. Although only Hikage being the closest of actually showing it (with her slitted eyes and affinity for poison).
* AntiHeroTeam: Being the darker counterpart to the Hanzo Elites. Of course, "darker" is subjective, to the point that in ''Deep Crimson'' [[spoiler:they're acting more openly heroic than the Hanzo Elites in their desire to protect innocent citizens from yoma, and chewing out the Hanzo Elites for acting mindless minions when faced with their grey orders to kill Kagura.]]
* BadassCrew: Each member is dangerous in her own right, and together they form a team so tough they don't need backing from any school.
* CatchPhrase: "I sacrifice myself to the will of evil/our dance!"
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: In Portrait of Girls the Hebijo girls weren’t playable and their side of the story wasn’t available, back then they looked like more standard evil ninjas, with very few redeeming qualities, it was from Burst and beyond that their side became available and a recurring option, ever since showing many similarities to the Hanzo girls, like their strong bonds towards each other; the difference is quite jarring to the point the Hebijo events as seen by Hanzo’s perspective isn’t treated as canon by Deep Crimson.
* DarkActionGirl: As the counterparts to the Hanzo Squad, and having trained at a school for evil shinobi, this trope is par for the course for all of them. [[spoiler:Even after they go rogue, they retain an edge that the Hanzo girls lack.]]
* DressingAsTheEnemy: In the anime, they wear Hanzo academy uniforms to infiltrate the school under all the normal students noses.
* EgocentricTeamNaming: The squad is named after its leader, Homura.
* ForgottenFirstMeeting: [[spoiler: With Suiren in ''New Link''. They found she was abused by Dogen and tried to stop him, he erased their memories.]]
* HighlyVisibleNinja: Collectively, they finally provide an aversion in ''Shinovi Versus''. Instead of school uniforms, they wear street clothes that, while very flattering, do blend in just fine. [[spoiler:Being exiles, street clothes provide less identifiable mark than school uniforms.]]
* NobleDemon: The Hebijo/Crimson girls are far from being as evil as they seem; in fact, the game goes to lengths to show that they are in fact really close to the Hanzō girls while being much more aware than them that they chose to live in a dark and violent world. Hell, "evil shinobi" means little more than being a mercenary rather than an actual villain.
** Homura: [[spoiler:She fights to feel alive and to protect her Hebijo comrades.]]
** Yomi: [[spoiler:Apart from her fixation on rich ojou-sama, she's probably one of the sweetest and most friendly of the Hebijo girls. But you have to be a good listener with an affinity for bean sprouts.]]
** Hikage: [[spoiler:She has multiple opportunities to eliminate Katsuragi, but she never follows through.]]
** Mirai: [[spoiler:She just want to be recognized, preferably as an ''equal''.]]
** Haruka: [[spoiler:She ''genuinely'' wants to be friends with Hibari.]]
* PrivateMilitaryContractor: After becoming the Crimson Squad, though they have regular jobs, they also spend time doing merc work for more money.
* VillainProtagonist: In their route and the manga spinoff focusing on them, they serve as the enemies of Hanzo who want to steal their Super Secret Ninja Scroll. [[spoiler:Until their HeelFaceTurn.]]

A second-year student at Hebijo Academy. She aims to be the very best shinobi, and will do whatever it takes to achieve that goal. As an elite Hebijo member, she has immense ability as well as strong leadership skills.

While her voice may sound slightly masculine, her good manners show her true femininity. She is grateful to her friends and relentless toward her rivals, but respects and admires the strong regardless of their affiliation.

She fights by wielding six katanas at the same time. She also carries around a Nōdachi named "Engetsuka" which she can draw out to unleash [[SuperMode Crimson Homura]]. Homura's elemental affinity is fire.

----
* AmbiguouslyBi: The ''only reason'' that Homura falls into this is because she can't answer [[ShipperOnDeck Yumi's]] question about what she really feels for Asuka. Homura's [[LuminescentBlush blushing]] and [[CannotSpitItOut stuttering]] when Yumi outright asks Homura if Asuka is her lover (the word used being ''koibito'') doesn't really help Homura's case. As for the case of guys, it's heavily implied she started to develop feelings for [[spoiler:the cover of the evil ninja who was tasked with killing her, openly stating she was close to him before he revealed the truth and of course the inevitable self-defense killing]].
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Subverted. In-game art and dialogue reveal that she's tanned.
* AnimalMotifs: Snakes, of course ([[AnimalJingoism bonus points for Asuka the Frog, above]]). More specifically the Japanese Rat Snake.
** Also crabs, judging by her comedy routines.
* BerserkButton: She ''really'' doesn't take betrayal very well. [[spoiler:Makes sense, considering that her trusted childhood confidant Komichi turned out to be a shinobi [[ProfessionalKiller sent to kill her]] and she was banished from her family after [[CrimeOfSelfDefense killing him in self-defense]].]]
** Harming Asuka is another one. Although it should be noted that she doesn't like anyone hurting Asuka because [[TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou Asuka is hers to defeat]]. [[spoiler:[[{{Tsundere}} NOT because she cares about Asuka]], [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial or anything like that.]]]]
* BloodKnight: Homura has stated in the first game that she fights to feel alive. [[spoiler:After she got disowned by her parents]], she felt she lacked a purpose in life. Fighting allows her to truly feel alive.
-->'''Homura:''' [[spoiler:When the people I loved most cast me aside, my heart stopped beating.]] But when I am in the middle of a fight, I realize that I can still feel alive. Yes. If I'm not fighting as a shinobi, I'm no better than a corpse.
** She considers the fact that Hanzō and Hebijo both exist is reason enough for them to fight. When you consider what "evil/dark shinobi" actually means, this is the equivalent of [[PrivateMilitaryContractor Blackwater Worldwide]] declaring war on the United States ForTheEvulz.
* CannotTellAJoke: Homura's comedy routine consists of poses she finds funny. She's the only one who does.
* CostumeEvolution: She's the only one who gets a wardrobe change in the Versus series. Justified as her old costume is the Hebijo's schoolgirl uniform; as [[spoiler:she and her team severed their ties with their school]], she stopped wearing it and gets a similar, but more complex costume.
* CrimeOfSelfDefense: See DarkandTroubledPast.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:She was banished from her family due to her killing an evil ninja who attacked her when she was still a middle-school student. She did it as a self-defense, but they cast her out anyway.]]
* DualWielding: Exaggerated; she uses six katanas, which she holds like WolverineClaws (i.e., like [[VisualNovel/{{Tsukihime}} Ciel]]). During Crimson Homura mode, she wields a nōdachi.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: In the 3DS games, being Asuka's counterpart.
* EtTuBrute: Like the BerserkButton entry states, she does '''not''' take betrayal very well.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: ''Everybody'' can tell she cares about Asuka more than she lets on. Now, whether this is platonic or not is much more ambiguous, but [[spoiler:[[ShipperOnDeck Yumi]]]] seems to ship them. Not to mention her frequent use of SuspiciouslySpecificDenial when it comes to helping Asuka. Haruka also loves to tease Homura about her feelings for Asuka during ''Shinovi'' and ''Estival'', with Haruka even pointing out how obvious Homura is during the former game.
* {{Expy}}: Of ''VideoGame/SengokuBasara'' version of UsefulNotes/DateMasamune. In fact, there's a pin-up of Homura dressed almost like SB's Masamune, complete with an eyepatch like him, albeit Homura uses Mirai's one.
* FieryRedhead: At the end of ''Burst'' and in all games thereafter, Homura's hair [[PowerDyesYourHair turns red]] when she becomes Crimson Homura and fights at full power. Doubles as an [[ElementalHairColors Elemental Hair Color]], since Crimson Homura has many fire-based attacks.
* FlamingSword: Her nodachi "Engetsuka" is one. Every normal slashes with it will cause burns on enemies.
* FlatEarthAtheist: Subverted. You'd be right to think it's weird that a shinobi who has to kill demons doesn't believe in ghosts. She just says that because she's deathly afraid of them.
* FlyingWeapon: When she's in her Crimson Homura mode, she may sometimes levitate her 6 swords to attack alongside her nodachi.
* {{Foil}}: To Asuka.
* FriendlyEnemy: She loves to fight Asuka at any given chance, and holds nothing back as Shinobi tradition and respect demand, but after the first day it's obvious her intent isn't lethal anymore.
* GiftedlyBad: Considers herself good at impressions and pantomime, especially in her Shinobi Girls' Heart stories. [[HilarityEnsues She's not.]]
* GuestFighter: Appears as a guest character in ''Nitro+Blasterz: Heroines Infinite Duel''.
* GratuitousFrench: Only in the localization, Homura uses the term "joie de vivre", literally "exhilaration".
* HotBlooded: To the point Hikage instantly figures out Homura is suffering for severe laryngitis and desperately needs a cough drop solely because the two of them were sparring and Homura ''wasn't'' [[ScreamingWarrior screaming her head off]] the whole time.
* IdiotHair: Sports a small strand of black hair protuding from it.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: {{Deconstruct|ion}}ed. [[spoiler:Her defending herself and killing the man who was going to kill her results in her being thrown out and loses the chance to become a good Shinobi and while she defended herself, it's shown she herself does not exactly justify it.]]
* ImageSong: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsUvTd-ZGKI Break Out Of Your Shell]] in ''Bon Appétit''.
* JokeItem: Cake Knives and giant crab claws in ''Deep Crimson'' for regular Homura. From the same game, a lightsaber and a giant fried shrimp for Crimson Homura.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: Why yes, they are so good that she wields ''six'' of them. She also carries a nōdachi, which she doesn't normally use unless she becomes Crimson Homura, in which case she primary uses it.
* LargeHamAnnouncer: Her [[SuperMode Crimson Homura]] form is sold as a separate DLC character in ''Peach Beach Splash'' and buying her automatically unlocks her system voice. While she doesn't outright scream, she does emphasize pretty much all her lines.

* LimitBreak:
** Charge - She dashes multiple times to different directions as she slashes her surroundings.
** Crimson (''Burst'', ''Deep Crimson'', ''Shinovi Versus'') - A move usable only by Crimson Homura; she holds her nodachi up while spinning her 6 katanas around her, then she creates a tornado of flames around her. In EV, this is a normal move (as Crimson Homura is a SuperMode there) instead of a LimitBreak.
** Hayabusa (''Deep Crimson'', ''Estival Versus'') - She advances forward as she does multiple fiery slashes in front of her. This move is named "Hibiki" in EV.
** Roar (''Deep Crimson'') - she does a full body charge while being WreathedInFlames, then she leaps up followed by a bursting pillar of flame.
** Sound of the Wind (''Burst'') - a powerful SpinAttack that ends in an explosion (becomes a regular attack in SV)
** Crimson Sun (''Deep Crimson'') - She launches forward a FireBall with her Engetsuka.
** Lotus (''Shinovi Versus'') - she briefly turns to Crimson Homura mode, then dashes forward, slashing with all her blades, ending with the "Crimson" above.
** Crimson Lotus (''Deep Crimson'', ''Estival Versus'') - in DC, it's a move usable only by Crimson Homura; she holds her nodachi [[CutlassBetweenTheTeeth in her mouth]], then unsheathes her 6 swords and advances forward while slashing furiously. In EV, this move accesses the Crimson Homura mode.
** Dawn (Aerial, ''Burst'') - an attack where she releases a burst of fire to all directions in midair.
** Shadow Lotus (Aerial, ''Deep Crimson'') - Similar to Dawn, but done as Crimson Homura and comprises of a vortex of fire and katanas bursting around her, hitting multiple times.
** Flying Wild Dance (With Asuka, ''Deep Crimson'')
** Extreme Tornado Slash (With [[spoiler:Rin]], ''Deep Crimson'')
** [[TitleDrop Deep Crimson]] (With Ultimate Asuka, ''Deep Crimson'')
* MultiWielding: She wields six ''Katanas'' simultaneously.
* NamedWeapons: It's not known if her six katanas have names, but the nodachi she wields as [[SuperMode Crimson Homura]] is called "Engetsuka".
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: She does not take well if ''anyone'' but she defeats Asuka, going as far as to take revenge on them.
* PetTheDog: Homura reveals she wears frilly pink pajamas, so that Mirai will feel less insecure about her bear-print panties, in addition to telling her that, at Hebijo, seniority doesn't matter, they are all comrades.
* PlayingWithFire: Controls fire mainly through her blades, and some of her attacks may leave her foes with [[StatusEffects the "burning" effect]].
* PowerDyesYourHair: As Crimson Homura, her dark brown hair turns a deep shade of red.
* TheRival: To Asuka. A bit (or a ''lot'', depending on who you [[spoiler:i.e Yumi]] ask) of homoerotic tension is there.
* RuleOfSeven: Her seventh sword, Engetsuka, is far more powerful than the other six, so she only uses it as a GodzillaThreshold once she transforms into [[SuperMode Crimson Homura]].
* SchoolUniformsAreTheNewBlack: Back at Hebijo, she didn't have a special outfit after doing a Shinobi transformation; her combat outfit was the same exact school uniform, but now with wrist guards.
** After leaving Hebijo, her Shinobi Transformation outfit could pass as Hebijo's winter uniform.
* ScreamingWarrior: She's pretty calm most of the time... but when she transforms, well, let's just say she's called the ''Crimson Flame'' [[HotBlooded for reasons other than just her fighting style.]] Thanks, Creator/EriKitamura!
* TheSlowWalk: During her Crimson Homura mode in Shinovi Versus.
* ShipTease: With Asuka. So much so that [[spoiler:Yumi]] notices and [[ShipperOnDeck actively ships them together]].
* StupidSexyFlanders: Her first meeting with Asuka in the hotsprings. Kat and Hibari are running around naked, Yagyuu is trying to regin Hibari in, and all Homura can focus on is [[ShipTease the calm girl who has]] [[MaleGaze massive breasts]].
* SuperMode: Crimson Homura. It turns her into [[Literature/ShakuganNoShana Shana]]!
* TakingYouWithMe: In the anime, she vowed to do this to Dōgen. Luckily, Asuka stopped her from going through with it.
* TanLines: Homura has a set defined by her ''{{Sarashi}}'', of all things, which means the only time they're visible is when she's wearing something skimpier, such as a bikini.
* TomboyishPonytail: Played straight unlike Asuka, as she's more tomboyish than her friend.
* ToughRoom: Her impressions don't really have a positive effect on her friends.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: In ''Burst'', she exhibits almost no preference whatsoever beyond "Japanese food", but once she's gone renegade and her diet's been reduced to wild grass and the occasional bean sprouts, her craving for any and all meat grows into an out-and-out obsession, derailing her current train of thought to think of meat nearly ''half'' as often as Yomi and beansprouts.
* {{Tsundere}}: A classic Harsh example. She started as a ''tsuntsun'', but after the events of ''Burst'' she's mellowed out into a ''deredere''. Her ''tsuntsun'' side is now reserved for Asuka [[ShipTease or anyone who dares to harm her]].
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Asuka, naturally.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: She's deathly afraid of ghosts. She devolves into a crybaby at the mere possibility of one being nearby.
* WolverineWannabe: Homura is an AntiHero who leads a BadassCrew of fellow elite shinobi and wields three katanas in each hand like WolverineClaws. While not an outright [[TheBerserker Berserker]], she is still a BloodKnight and confesses that battling is pretty much the only time when she feels alive.

-->''We're renegades... We can't afford to live in luxury.''

A second-year student at Hebijo Clandestine Girls’ Academy. She grew up in the slums, and so grew both her longing to live in an affluent house and hatred of those privileged enough to be born into wealth in the first place. She has a special hatred for Ikaruga for those exact reasons.

She adopts an exaggerated fighting style by brandishing a sword longer than her entire body and also shooting a cannon. Yomi's elemental affinity is wind. It's also worth mentioning that she LOVES bean sprouts!

----
* AffablyEvil: [[PlayingWithATrope Played with]] as she's not really a villain, but Yomi really ''is'' a sweet girl, and rather polite when you meet her, even in combat. It's just that she can be deranged towards those who live in wealth. She's not irredeemable though, as seen with her eventual friendship with Ikaruga and later, Leo.
* AnimalMotifs: Her ninja animal is the burrowing rat snake.
* ArmCannon: Her ''other'' weapon is an arm-mounted cannon.
* AutomaticCrossbow: The other {{Arm Cannon}}s she has is essentially a shuriken-firing crossbow.
* AxCrazy: Her obsession of bean sprouts and performing actions against anyone who's wealthy, or comes off as wealthy, gets pretty scary sometimes.
-->'''Ikaruga:''' Wait! You said you had to kill me to complete your mission! What is the meaning of this?\
'''Yomi:''' Those who sneer at bean sprouts will someday die by bean sprouts. That is the meaning of this.
* BadassAdorable: Despite her cute appearance, she does wield a BFS and heavy artillery.
* BalloonBelly: In her ''Bon Appetit'' ending after resolving her "lovers' quarrel" with bean sprouts throughout the story.
* BerserkButton: Has two major ones. Do you look rich? Do you not find bean sprouts to be quite delicious? If your answer to any of the two is "yes", then congratulations — Yomi will now take your head off!
* {{BFS}}: Has a gigantic broadsword, which is both thick AND long, and she can extend it even further in one of her ninpos.
* BigEater: Whether it's moyashi/bean sprouts, cabbage cores, hachinoko, or even just sweets, you can always tell that she's going to gorge herself silly to satisfy her hunger; it is {{justified|trope}} though since she came from an impoverished background of always starving, so when she joined Hebijo, where there definitely is plenty of food to eat, why wouldn't she indulge herself.
* BizarreTasteInFood: Due to having grown up in poverty, Yomi has bizarre tastes in foods that she's had to eat to make ends meet, such as cabbage cores and hachinoko (which are ''hornet larvae boiled in soy sauce''). This has limits, as even ''she'' turns her nose up at earthworm soba.
* ChainsawGood: Her sword has a chainsaw-like function built into it ''Deep Crimson'' onwards.
* ChildhoodFriend: [[spoiler:It's revealed in the Gessen story that her and Murakumo were friends back in the slums]].
* CordonBleughChef: She seems to be able to cook just fine, even if her ingredients can be bit shady (like wild grass).
* CompanionCube: Especially in the Vita games, she treats bean sprouts as her closest friends. "Bon Appetit" (appropriately, being a food game), has her treating them [[CargoShip like lovers]].
* CuteAndPsycho: She's genuinely a sweet and kind person, and always sports a pleasant smile, but her poor past means pressing her BerserkButton (either of them) will bring out her more deranged, sadistic and hateful side.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:She grew up in the slums and her parents died of malnutrition in order to provide her with enough money for a future. This caused her obsession with bean sprouts and making food stretch out (by extension, also making sure people she cares about getting enough to eat), and her bitterness and hatred towards prosperous people like Ikaruga, whose charity would likely have stopped her parents from doing what they had to do.]]
* EatTheRich: As someone who grew up in poverty, Yomi has a ridiculous disdain for the wealthy and starts off as Ikaruga's rival for this reason.
* {{Expy}}: [[{{BFS}} A giant sword]], arm-mounted AutomaticCrossbow, an ArmCannon, bombs... she essentially has [[Manga/{{Berserk}} Guts']] arsenal in her disposal.
* GenreRefugee: A {{BFS}}. Between that and her Western clothing, she'd feel right at home in either a (deranged) European FairyTale or a {{JRPG}}.
* GigglingVillain: Depending on context, it's either darn cute or just plain creepy.
* InformedFlaw: In the first game, due to growing up hungry and donating her entire food stipend from her school to the community she came from (her diet consists of bean sprouts, supermarket samples and discarded rotten food as a result). She makes frequent mention of how hungry she is, and should by all rights be suffering from advanced malnutrition, but is just as full-figured, clear-skinned, energetic and strong as the other girls.
* InsaneTrollLogic: Yomi believes people with money shouldn't be allowed to have good hearts purely because, as a child, she never met anyone with money who cared about helping the poor like her and her family. She initially flies into a rage at the sight of Ikaruga, who is incidentally rather rich, but Ikaruga also takes time out of her day to help the poor after her last encounter with Yomi, which causes Yomi to rethink herself.
* JokeItem: A butterfly iron fan and a giant iron pan filled with bean sprouts in ''Deep Crimson''.
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: Because she wears a {{meido}} uniform in combat.
* {{Leitmotif}}:

** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YX5wpgUI9vc Bean Sprouts and My Seafood]]
* LimitBreak:
** Sigmund - she lifts her sword up and then brings it down, creating a linear wave.
** Niflheim - she spams shurikens and explosives from her {{Arm Cannon}}s.
** Ragnarok - she does a SpinAttack with her sword that causes a big tornado.
** Asgard (Aerial, ''Burst'', ''Deep Crimson'') - She rolls in midair with sword held up before slamming it to the ground.
** Flying Guillotine (With Ikaruga, ''Deep Crimson'')
** Story of Bean Sprouts (With Hikage, ''Deep Crimson'')
* {{Meido}}: Her outfit looks like one.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: In the Hebijo intro for Burst, she's seen lifting weights ''stacked upon dozens of other weights''. This part of her training might be why she's able to carry around her [[{{BFS}} huge sword]].
* MightyGlacier: The opposite of Ikaruga. She compensates with her powerful projectiles and explosives.
* NiceGirl: As long as you don't press her BerserkButton, Yomi shows to be the most consistently kind of the Homura Crimson Squad girls.
* OddFriendship: In ''Estival Versus'', with ''Ryōbi'' of all people. They bond over the size of their booties.
* OneeSama: Yomi convinces Mirai to call her "Onee-sama" (Sis in the localizations) because she's always wanted to be one.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: In her Bon Appétit story, the sheer mentioning of Yomi's separation from bean sprouts alone is enough to shock anyone she comes across. It gets to the point where the situation gets treated like some sort of serious breakup.
* PetTheDog: To Mirai, when Yomi reveals she wears a stomach band to sleep, to help her over her insecurity with her bear panties.
* PimpedOutDress: It's a gown, and it doesn't look like a combat gear or for that matter ''practical''. When you've been stuck in poverty and you suddenly have the power to make clothing out of thin air, you would pimp that out too... and rather reasonably, she gets angrily distraught if it starts getting damaged.
* RedOniBlueOni: Red to Hikage and Ikaruga's blue.
* TheRival: She's determined to defeat Ikaruga, who (to her) is the face of the upper class. [[DefeatMeansFriendship Until the first game ends, of course]].
* SuperStrength: All of the girls are far stronger than their size would suggest, but Yomi is shown lifting abnormally massive weights in some of the game openings.
* SweetTooth: Rivals Hibari's in ''Bon Appetit'', so much that [[https://senrankagura.fandom.com/wiki/File:Hibari_BA_Ending.jpg she swims naked in a sea of sweets in Hibari's ending.]]
* SwordAndGun: {{BFS}} and wrist mounted artillery HandCannon.
* SwordPlant: Her victory animation in Shinovi Versus.
* TeamMom: Due to her caring, warm nature (When she's not being set off by bean sprouts or rich people), she's the one who mothers the team the most.
* ThemeNaming: Her Ninja Arts are named after terms in Norse Mythology. Even her {{BFS}} is named Ragnarok.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Everyone in the series has one, but hers is worth mentioning: if something doesn't have bean sprouts in it, she simply doesn't like it. She always talks about bean sprouts, even in battle!
* {{Tsundere}}: A Sweet example. It comes out especially often during her interactions with Ikaruga in ''Deep Crimson''.

-->''Their actions and reactions stand in direct contrast to their feelings. I seriously don't understand at all.''

A third-year student at Hebijo Clandestine Girls’ Academy. She’s expressionless and largely wordless, to the point that nobody can ever quite tell what she’s thinking.

She claims to have no emotions, but she’s surrounded by friends who are frank and upfront with their feelings, giving her an almost scientific curiosity about the very concept of human emotion. Her weapon of choice is the knife, which she wields with grace and aplomb. Hikage's affinity is poison.
----
* AdaptationalVillainy: The anime paints her in a worse light than in the games, where she is more prone of sporting a SlasherSmile and being bit more sadistic. In Haruka's brief explanation of the rest of her team, she claims Hikage is a ChildSoldier, where as in the games, she was an emotionless orphan who grew up with a street gang.
* AmbiguousSituation: Just what ''is'' Frenzy Mode considering Hikage's otherwise lack of emotions? SuperpoweredEvilSide that she is not aware of? A reflection of what she thinks she should act like? Her repressed emotions bursting forth all at once? No one has commented on it and there isn't any official material that dwells into what it means.
* AnimalMotifs: Snakes. Hikage's eyes have vertical pupils like a snake, there's usually a snake hiss when she sticks out her tongue, her clothing usually has snakeskin motifs, her attacks inflict poison depending on the game in question, and she even has a Cobra as her ninja animal.
* BrilliantButLazy: She has everything it takes to be a shinobi, especially the drive to kill. She just doesn't feel like going the whole nine yards unless she's explicitly ordered to do so.
* BrutalHonesty: By way of NoSocialSkills and the resulting lack of tact.
* CloudCuckooLandersMinder: Being paired with either Katsuragi (obsessed with groping) or Yomi (obsessed with bean sprouts) turns her into this by default.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: ''Shinovi Versus'' loves doing this with her more than ''Burst''.
* CutlassBetweenTheTeeth: She may sometimes wield one of her knives by her teeth in her attacks.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:She grew up on the streets, and was adopted by a female gang leader named Hinata who was killed in a fight some times afterward. Her signature knife is a TragicKeepsake of her mentor.]]
* DefrostingIceQueen: In ''Shinovi Versus''. Katsuragi is astonished when Hikage jokes about groping Katsuragi as a reward for helping with her training. Applies to the other games in the series as well.
* DualWielding: She wields an [[WhipSword extendable knife]] on one hand and smaller knives on the other.
* EmotionlessGirl: Hikage is a very strange example of the trope. She constantly claims to have no emotions and that she's unable to feel anything. Yet numerous points in the series show that she is very much capable of emotion, she just appears to be incapable of actually feeling them. As a child, when her mentor Hinata (the closest thing she'd had to a parent) was killed and Hikage finally found her body, she broke down crying. A similar situation happened in ''Burst'', when she thought Mirai had been killed, Hikage began to cry as well. She describes the sensation as "a rainstorm in her heart", and doesn't actually realize that she's physically crying until Mirai points it out.
* {{Expy}}:
** She looks a lot like [[Franchise/TouhouProject Yuuka Kazami]], even sharing some aspects of her personality. In fact, there's a lot of fan-art of both Yuuka and Hikage sharing their clothes or being together.
** Her green hair, [[HellishPupils yellow eyes]], [[SnakesAreSexy snake motifs]], and love of knives make her appearance-wise a [[GenderFlip gender-bent]] one to [[VideoGame/BlazBlue Hazama/Yuuki Terumi]]. In terms of [[AvertedTrope personality though]], [[EmotionlessGirl they couldn't]] [[ReiAyanamiExpy be any]] [[FauxAffablyEvil more]] [[LaughingMad different]].
* FaceOfAThug: Has HellishPupils, dresses in a street-gang manner, is a knife nut... but not all that bad.
* FlechetteStorm: Her Aerial Ninpo has her summon a snake-like construct made of knives that she flings at the target.
* FragileSpeedster: To contrast with Katsuragi, she is very fast and her mobility is excellent. However, her Health is average and her damage on individual strikes is fairly low.
* HellishPupils: Snake-like, and they are either disturbing to look at or [[NightmareFetishist cute to some]].
* HyperspaceArsenal: She has way more than just the one knife, and she can use and throw all of them at the same time without ever running out.
* InnocentInnuendo: Hikage refers to the couch the player uses to change characters as the "casting couch"... before realizing that means something totally different.
* JokeItem: Cooking Utensils and a giant fork and butter knives in ''Deep Crimson''.

* LickingTheBlade: Signature pose, using her signature knife.
* LimitBreak:
** Shanking - she rushes forward, delivering multiple strikes with her knives, ending with doing a powerful stab with her extendable knife.
** Splatter - it differs from game to game. In the very first, she just unleashes powerful knife slashes. In ''DC'', it's an aerial move where she [[FlechetteStorm throws a lot of knives down]]. In SV, this move unlocks her SuperMode. In EV, she rushes forward (direction is controllable) while doing countless slashes around her, dragging foes with her.
** Frenzy - a SuperMode that is accessed from another skill (see above and below).
** Pure Bliss - In ''DC'', she stands in one place while slashing all around her with her knives. In EV, this unlocks her SuperMode.
** The Breaking (Aerial, ''Burst'')
** Hikage Strike (With Katsuragi, ''Deep Crimson'')
** Story of Bean Sprouts (With Yomi, ''Deep Crimson'')
* ManiacTongue: Many of her arts portray her sticking her tongue out, and her mental state is... weird, to say the least.
* NoSocialSkills: It's revealed that she isn't very good at talking to people, but tries her best to overcome this problem.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: In her Paradise story in ''Peach Beach Splash'', she gets a sudden urge to dance the samba after sitting out in the sun for too long. The other girls on her team assume she's suffering from heatstroke, especially when she starts exhibiting emotions.
* ParentalAbandonment: The farthest back her memories can go is to her time in the orphanage. Why she was there and what happened to her parents is never told.
* PungeonMaster: ''Bon Appetit'' reveals that she is surprisingly good at wordplay and puns, and is excellent at playing shiritori.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: When she goes into frenzy mode.
* ReiAyanamiExpy: Let's see, green hair, yellow eyes, pale skin, emotionless, socially inept, and a DarkAndTroubledPast. Checks all the boxes.
* RedOniBlueOni: Blue to Yomi and Katsuragi's red.
* TheRival: Initially she holds the NothingPersonal principle, but after trading enough blows with Katsuragi, she feels that she's in some way aroused by her.
* RoboSpeak: Has a moment of this in ''Bon Appetit'' when Yomi admits to getting tired of bean sprouts and her only reaction is, "I DO NOT COMPREHEND."
* RunningGag: Her saying that she has no emotions whenever she probably should be having an emotional reaction to something.
* SatisfiedStreetRat: She was a street urchin until she joined Hinata's gang. Being with Hinata made Hikage feel content in a strange way, the woman treated her differently, and Hikage "followed her around like a puppy" in her own words.
* ShoutOut: Her phrase "I do not comprehend" being a reference to [[VideoGame/DigitalDevilSaga Gale]]'s phrase.
* SnakesAreSexy: She has the most snake themes out of her group and her regular outfit shows her curves the most.
* StraightMan: She's often paired with both Yomi and Katsuragi, the former [[CompanionCube obsessed with bean sprouts]], the latter [[ChivalrousPervert with breasts]]. She keeps both of them on track.
* StreetUrchin: After she ran away from the orphanage she grew up in, Hikage was pretty much this until she became a member of Hinata's gang.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Has among the most revealing wardrobes among the main girls. Just look at her picture above; her breasts struggle to be contained by her top!
* SuperMode: Frenzy Mode, which gives her a purple BattleAura, turns her personality from EmotionlessGirl to AxCrazy with a SlasherSmile and GlowingEyesOfDoom and changes her attacks to be more fierce. Note that utility of Frenzy Mode ranges from TurnsRed (''Burst'', enemy), CriticalStatusBuff (''Burst'', playable), StanceSystem (''Deep Crimson'') and regular SuperMode (''Shinovi'' and ''Estival Versus'').
* SupremeChef: The best cook of the Crimson Squad.
* TheStoic: Her default tone is a flat deadpan.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: Downplayed; she's got yellow eyes, but rather than supernatural magic, she makes use of ninja skills (which work as an illusion of magic).
* SwordBeam: The Splashing Ninja Art has her throwing these out.
* TattooedCrook: A former gang member who has tattoos on her left waist, breast and left of her neck, and it's those specific spots where her old leader Hinata was fatally stabbed.
* TragicKeepsake: The combat knife Hikage wields used to belong to Hinata, the leader of her gang and the closest thing Hikage had to a parent. Hikage took the knife with her after finding Hinata dead in a back alley, slashed to ribbons, feeling as if the knife held the woman's soul.
* VideogameDashing: Can dash a considerable amount of times before having to stop, with earlier games letting her do it infinitely.
* AWildRapperAppears: In the ''Peach Beach Splash'' story mode for her team, each of them try showing off a talent to attract business. She performs a spontaneous rap, to the amazement of the other girls.
* WhatIsThisThingYouCallLove: As mentioned, Hikage is constantly surrounded by girls who are frank and open about their emotions, for better or worse. She has an almost scientific curiosity about the concept and phenomenon.
* WhenSheSmiles: She often has a blank face or a sadistic smirk, but when she's genuinely flustered or happy, she's a cutie!
* WhipSword: ''Senran Kagura 2'' turns her combat knife into a whip knife.

A first-year student at Hebijo Clandestine Girls’ Academy. While her graciousness in defeat may suggest a certain level of maturity, in truth she can be immature and disobedient. Her lack of maturity is best displayed in her hatred of being ignored.

While it can sometimes be hard for her being surrounded by more mature shinobi, overall she is very happy to be a member of the Hebijo Academy. Her umbrella is a concealed firearm, and she hides other heavy weapons under her skirt.

----
* ACupAngst: [[PlayingWithATrope Played with]] as she generally angsts about her overall body size rather than just her breasts, but it's there. Pointing this out to her is her ''major'' BerserkButton.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: She went through constant bullying in the past which made a serious dent in her self-esteem.
* AxCrazy: Mostly evident in the Hanzo side where she's shown to react violently towards Yagyū any time she doesn't pay attention to her. She'd even go as far as torturing Hibari if it meant Yagyū wouldn't ignore her. Thankfully, [[CharacterDevelopment she's gotten a whole lot better since then]].
* AttentionWhore: Not to an extreme, but she doesn't like being ignored.
* BerserkButton: Mirai will not react well to anyone who ignores her or calls her flat.
* {{BFG}}: Valkyrie sure counts. It's bigger than she is!
* ButtMonkey: She's about as weak as Hibari when it comes to being a ninja, but she acts big and considers Yagyū her rival. Yagyū is a ''ChildProdigy''. Yagyū also tends to ignore Mirai when she appears, being more focused on something else, much of her annoyance.
* CatGirl: Her second animal motif, strangely. Her ninja outfit includes a cat-ear hood and a tail attached to her dress.
* CuteLittleFangs: To match the cat ears and tail on her costume.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:She used to be bullied in her old school, causing her to have a sort of inferiority complex.]]
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: Her eyepatch looks like [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolid4GunsOfThePatriots the Solid Eye]] with a Mitsudomoe symbol.
** She pulls out [[PhallicWeapon a massive gun from under her skirt]]! That's asking Freud for a field day.
*** Pulling the gun out while in frantic mode reveals than is set on a base which goes under her crotch though.
* ElegantGothicLolita: She even has the mentality to match.
* {{Expy}}: She's basically a ninja version of Kuro Kagami from ''Kodomo no Jikan'', complete with her cat motifs.
* EyepatchOfPower: The opposite eye from Yagyū's. [[spoiler:She wears it to block her vision from the world due of the constant bullying she suffered.]]
* {{Foil}}: A mirror-match in a number of ways to Yagyū: same schoolyear in different schools, eyepatches of different designs and materials[[note]]Hers is more mechanical and modern, while Yagyū's is more traditional[[/note]] in opposite positions, different types of umbrellas, hair color, etc.
* GatlingGood: One of her default weapons in ''Senran Kagura 2'' is a ''portable gatling gun''.
* GoofyPrintUnderwear: Mirai wears very cute, bear-print panties. Haruka finds this hilarious.
* GrenadeLauncher: One of her weapon stances in ''Senran Kagura 2'' is a grenade launcher.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:She takes the bullet for Homura when Yagyū tries to shoot her in the first game.]]
* HimeCut: Long black hair. Due to being petite and small, it reaches beyond her hips.
* HyperspaceArsenal: Stores multiple types of guns, a small tank and, in EV, a ''mini jet plane'' beneath her puffy skirt. Or... somewhere else, if her outfit got shredded (or if you don't make her wear it in the first place).
* JokeItem: Nostalgic toys (water gun, umbrella, old style gun) and Snacks (Pocky, brightly wrapped chocolate attached to a cat stick, a giant candy bar) in ''Deep Crimson''.

* LethalJokeCharacter: In-game only, a pure ranged fighter with the ability to counter attacks just when you think it is safe to attack her at melee range? She is this in spades.
* LimitBreak:
** Valkyrie - she reveals a giant gun from her crotch, then fires large purple shots from it.
** Wolfsschanze - In the very first game, it starts like Valkyrie with the crotch gun thing, then she spins around while firing it while using her umbrella to [[FireBreathingWeapon shoot fires]]. In the next games, she instead uncovers a lot of gatling guns around her legs and then rushes forward while firing in all directions.
** Satellite Gustav (''Deep Crimson'') - she calls a KillSat to fire a big laser at a distance.
** Landkreuzer (''Shinovi Versus'') - She pulls out a mini-tank from beneath her skirt with a lot of smaller guns attached to it. She then rides it as it fires its guns.
** Mirai Schmidt (''Estival Versus'') - She pulls out a mini jet fighter and then she rushes with it as it fires purple shots and homing missiles around her. Then she ends it by flying up and dropping a big bomb from above.
** Zeppelin (Aerial, ''Burst'')
** Wilde-Sauer (Aerial, ''Deep Crimson'')
* LittleBitBeastly: Her hat has cat ears and also has a cat tail on her costume.
* MoreDakka: Her umbrella has a machine-gun in it.
** Her Ninja Arts bring more and more dakka as they come. Her first Ninja art is always an anti-tank rifle, followed up with a belt made out of gatling guns. Her final Ninja Art changes, was it firing her anti-tank rifle in combination of using her umbrella as a flamethrower (''Burst''), using a KillSat (''Deep Crimson''), summoning ''giant cannon on wheels with multiple rifles and gatling guns on its side'' (''Shinovi Versus''), or using ''a fighter jet that spams homing missiles and drops a giant bomb'' (''EV'')
* TheNapoleon: Hates being called a little kid. As such, she is not only shorter than basically everybody in the series, but also short-tempered.
* OlderThanTheyLook: This ElegantGothicLolita looks 12 years old, but actually is the same age as Yagyū.
* ParasolOfPain: Her umbrella, which has an in-built machine gun. [[SwissArmyWeapon It can also become a grenade launcher in "2"]].
* PenName:
** For her online novelist identity, she uses "Futsure", which is her name in English [[GratuitousEnglish pronounced like it was written in Japanese]].
** In '''Bon Appetit''' she's also known as the sci-fi genius, "SFX".
* PetitePride: {{Subverted|Trope}}. While she does sometimes show the desire to gain larger breasts, she is at least fine with her being flat, saying that some people do like them small. Of course, this is part of Yomi's suggested SurvivalMantra...
-->''"Supply and demand, supply and demand, supply and demand!"''
* PintsizedPowerhouse: She's the shortest of the Crimson Girls but she still manages to pack some serious firepower.
* RealTimeWeaponChange: She has the ability to switch between her umbrella, a gatling gun, and a grenade launcher in ''Senran Kagura 2''.
* RedOniBlueOni: Red to Haruka and Yagyū's blue
* RedEyesTakeWarning: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. She's got red eyes and is highly irritable, but not villainous.
* {{Revenge}}: She joined the Hebijo Academy as opposed to any good shinobi school so that she can freely take revenge on the people who bullied her in the past. She eventually gives up on it, as she is convinced that she is way better than some bully.
* SchoolSwimsuit: Her default swimsuit.
* SmallGirlBigGun: Whatever gun comes from her skirt, its probably at very least her size.
* StealthPun: Instead of the actual Vaio laptop, Mirai uses a ''[[BlandNameProduct Paio]]'' laptop to write her stories on.
* StockShoujoBullyingTactics: She was mostly the victim of being ignored by others.
* StoneWall: In ''Burst'', while her HP, Attack and Defense are low, she has a move that can negate the damage of enemies' attacks as well as counter-attack said enemies as a response. This move, if timed well, can help her survive many attacks without a scratch.
* TeamMom: Becomes this after proving her reliability in ''Bon Appetit''. Also a case of BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor.
* ThemeNaming: Her Ninja Arts are named after stuff from German war history, most notably from World War II.
* TokenMiniMoe: Of the first generation of girls, at least. Though she can be this to other characters.
* YankTheDogsChain: Her scenario in ''Estival Versus'' has her successfully battling the other shinobi to get her hands on some rare figures from a popular in-universe anime, only for her to reach the register and find out she couldn't afford any of them to begin with.

-->''To be honest, I couldn't get my mind off you either. Your cries were so...fulfilling.''

A third-year student at Hebijo Academy. She’s a sadistic character who acts like the queen of the castle, and her favorite thing in the world is to tease the weak. Yet despite this, she cradles her juniors’ feelings and acts almost like a mother figure to them. This maternal instinct is probably the reason why she is fond of Hibari from Hanzo Academy.

She uses chemical weapons and puppetry, concealing the inner workings of her strategies under her white coat.

----
* AbusiveParents: Her mother treated her like a dress-up doll to play with and her [[ParentalNeglect father was neglectful]], on top of being a corrupt doctor and unfaithful. Needless to say, Haruka does not have much affection for them.
* AffablyEvil: {{Zig|Zagging Trope}}-zagged. She's a genuinely decent person and gets along with her squad fellows, but unlike Yomi (who plays the trope straight), her polite nature comes off as intimidating and it barely masks her sadistic side. Getting to befriend her shows her less negative qualities, though.
* AnimalMotifs: The Japanese keelback.
* AssKicksYou: She has a joint LimitBreak with Hibari where the two do this together to her foes.
%%* BadassBookworm: Highly intelligent? Check. Capable of beating foes within an inch of their life? Also check. Very sexy? ''[[NerdsAreSexy Check please.]]''
%% Check lists are highly discouraged here. Please rewrite.
* BadassLongcoat: While not especially long, she often uses what she stores in it, or even the coat itself, as her weapon.
* TheBaroness: The Sexpot type. ''Very'' sexy, quite {{sadist}}ic, DressedLikeADominatrix, and has a fixation on one of the heroines -- in this case, Hibari.
* BodySurf: When she's about to fight Hibari she'll usually Body Surf into a lifelike doll of herself (at least, that's how ''Burst'''s English translation handles it).
* BossRemix: Her usual boss theme in ''Burst'', "I'll Abuse You", becomes the much more intense "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-17P5_RFuw Controlled Puppeteer]]" in ''Burst Re:Newal'' [[spoiler:as the FinalBoss of the Hebijo storyline, controlled by Orochi.]]
* CensoredForComedy: In Bon Appetit, when she declares that she wishes to become Queen of the World, she says this line that disgusts Ikaruga:
-->'''Haruka:''' Hmm, let's see... First I'll xxx, then xxx. After that, I'll xxx with xxx, use a xxx, and go in hard with xxx...\
'''Ikaruga:''' T-that is malignant! The idea alone is giving me a headrush!\
'''Haruka:''' A xxx with a rough xxx, and a xxx with a hard and flat xxx...\
'''Ikaruga:''' E-enough already! Please stop!
* ChainsawGood: Her robot puppet possesses one.
* CoatCape: She wears her {{labcoat|ofscienceandmedicine}} this way.
* CombatSadomasochist: Implied. Just read the names of her leitmotifs below...
* CoolBigSis: She acts more along the lines of a big sister mentor to the other girls. Hibari even reminds her of such after she starts having doubts.
* DamageOverTime: She's the only shinobi who's capable of inflicting multiple StatusEffects on her opponents.
* DarkAndTroubledPast / FreudianExcuse: [[spoiler:Is mentally twisted due to her having been [[MyBelovedSmother nothing more than her mother's doll]].]]
* DifficultButAwesome: Like Hibari, she's sort of strange to get the hang of at first, but eventually becomes very strong.
* DressedLikeADominatrix: She just lacks the whip.
* EveryoneHasStandards: Despite being a MarionetteMaster, even she's apalled at Suiren's plan to weaponize yoma.
* FetishizedAbuser: She's a total sadist and enjoys making sexy-fun of Hibari.
* FinalBoss: [[spoiler:In the Crimson Girls scenario of ''Burst'', she's the last one under Orochi's control, at the end of Crimson Homura's BossBonanza against the brainwashed Hebijo girls.]]
* {{Flanderization}}: In ''Shinovi Versus'', her sinister EvilPuppeteer side is much less prominent than her [[TheTease flirtatious]] side, to the point where she's comparable to ''Katsuragi''.
* FourthWallObserver: A minor example in Crimson Girls. If you talk to her at the end of the game, she will advise you to try the dressing room out. Then she will follow it up with:
-->'''Haruka:''' Yes, I'm speaking to you. The player out there. Hello! I see you too, you know.
* GirlyRun: She runs like this.
* TheHedonist: Haruka lives for comfort and pleasure rather than having any particular goals. However, she's not a wholly negative instance as she's shown to care deeply for her friends.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: She genuinely wants to be friends with Hibari. Although in her case, it's not clear whether she means it in the traditional sense, looking for a lesbian pet rabbit or even both.
** If ''Shinovi Versus'' is anything to go by, it's the former. The two are mutually happy to see each other, Haruka asks Hibari for advice, Hibari shows off how strong she's become, and all of Haruka's sexual lust for her is pretty much gone. In the main story anyway. The character stories show that Haruka ''does'' still find Hibari adorable, but [[PlayedForLaughs considering the way the character stories go]] it's not ''nearly'' as unsettling as it was in ''Burst.''
* JokeItem: Perverted Feudal Lord and a Nurse Puppet in ''Deep Crimson''.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: In four out of five endings for ''Peach Ball'', Haruka receives punishment for her careless placing of experiments which turns several of the shinobi into animals.
* KissOfDeath: Her ninja art, DEATH X KISS.

** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IkBrQFieRw Pink Sadism]]
* LimitBreak:
** [=DEATHxKISS=] - she blows a kiss in a form of a big heart projectile, that causes the enemies to get charmed and be unable to attack. In ''EV'', this move causes multiple kinds of StatusEffects instead.
** Heart Vibration - her robot charges forward in a berserk rage, doing multiple strikes.
** The World is Mine - She pulls out multiple test tubes and then throws them around her, releasing bursts of gases that deals multiple kinds of StatusEffects.
** Scatters Love (Aerial, ''Burst'', ''Deep Crimson'') - pretty much a weaker aerial version of The World is Mine. In Versus series, this is her normal move.
** Press Saddle Buns (With Hibari, ''Deep Crimson'')
* LivingDollCollector: In ''Burst'', she expresses a disturbing desire to turn Hibari into her personal doll. [[spoiler:When she was a child, she was on the receiving end of such treatment from [[MyBelovedSmother her mother]], who treated her like a dress-up doll.]]
--> '''Haruka:''' ''You wanna be one of my puppets...?''
* MadScientist: Her experiments cause no end of chaos for the other girls.
* MarionetteMaster: Her control over dolls is such that she can coordinate them to give enough challenge to the Hanzo girls. [[spoiler:And then she attempts to control Hibari. And it works!]]
* MightyGlacier: Though her normal attacks are very short ranged, they do a lot of damage. Her Ninpos are also very strong, [[UselessUsefulSpell aside from the basic Ground one]].
* OddFriendship: With Amane in ''New Link''. While both start as enemies (due to Haruka accidentally pressing her BerserkButton), they end up bonding about how they felt restricted by their families and both being TheHedonist.
* {{Ojou}}: You certainly wouldn't have guessed from looking at her. On the other hand, she doesn't like being an Ojou, she craves independence.
* OmnidisciplinaryScientist: Seems to be an expert in both chemicals and robotics. Perhaps genetic engineering too, taking the... ''things'' in the test tubes in the opening of ''Burst'' into account.
** ''Guren no Hebi'' confirms that Haruka is indeed a genius in genetic engineering as well, having created a carnivorous plant/snake chimera part as a new weapon for Hebijo and part for her own amusement.
* PetTheDog: In her own... ''strange'' way, after laughing at Mirai's bear-print panties, Haruka gives her a negligee to help her over her insecurities.
* PinkMeansFeminine: She wears the most pink of her group and she's the girliest of them.
* PlayingWithSyringes: PlayedForLaughs, but [[NoodleIncident she once convinced]] Hikage to test a potion that winds up making her start uncontrollably dancing the samba. Naked.
* PsychoPink: In ''Burst'', where she's at her most sinister, Haruka has a mostly pink shinobi outfit and is a sadomasochistic LivingDollCollector. Downplayed in later titles, though.
* RedOniBlueOni: Blue to Mirai's and Hibari's red.
* RobotBuddy: Ever since ''Versus'', Haruka has had a small battle robot hidden in her lab coat. It has piston punches, claws, chainsaws, flamethrowers, and a notable AI, considering it's capable of fawning over Haruka. (As though she'd build a robot that wouldn't).
* SinisterTangoMusic: Her {{Leitmotif}}s are always tango-inspired, sometimes with a bit of [[CreepyJazzMusic jazz]] mixed in. WordOfGod has it that Haruka's character makes her think of "France and Piazzolla".
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Again, her outfit (along with Shiki) is the most scanty one out of all 79 girls. No, Katsuragi doesn't count; that girl wasn't trying to ''wear'' much to begin with.
* TeamMom: Sadism aside (somehow), she's (somehow) the one who works hard to keep her friends' spirits up (somehow).
* TeenGenius: She's only eighteen, but she's an expert in chemistry, robotics, and [[OmnidisciplinaryScientist a whole host of other sciences]].
* TheTease: Likes to use innuendos and double entendres sometimes just to get a reaction out of people. In ''Shinovi Versus'', when the Crimson Squad strikes out on its own, this habit ends up getting her fired from multiple part-time jobs.
* TooKinkyToTorture: Haruka very blatantly enjoys being beaten to the point of having her clothing shredded. It helps that [[spoiler:it's usually [[BodySurf not her real body]]]].
* {{Underboobs}}: Her transformation outfit in the Versus games is mostly the same with this being the notable exception.
* YouAreWhatYouHate: [[spoiler:Haruka's FreudianExcuse is that her mother reduced her to a dress-up doll in response to her father practically abandoning their family. Now, think back on all that effort Haruka put in to making Hibari a doll of her own]].

Also known as Rin, Suzune is a teacher at Hebijo Academy. She is strict with the other students but they respect her because of this. Once upon a time she was once a student at Hanzo Academy, and her fierce rivalry with Daidōji stems from these times.

Suzune brandishes a Fūma Shuriken in battle, and she wields the four-bladed weapon with extreme skill and dexterity. You don't wan't to misbehave around her! Her elemental affinity is wind.

----
* TheAlcoholic: According to Daidouji, Suzune spends a lot of her time drowning her sorrows at the bar.
-->'''Suzune:''' I'm not drinking every night! Only when I'm stressed out!\
'''Daidouji:''' I see. Your life must be full of stress, then. Very sad.

** [[https://twitter.com/yaegasinan/status/1229217601500237824 Nan drew a sketch of them]] enjoying dinner, with Daidōji playfully punching Rin in the shoulder.
* BadassTeacher: Unlike Kiriya, she ''does'' make use of her skills, and doesn't kick less ass because of being a teacher.
* BatmanGambit: Her actions in the anime are this, using the Hebijo girls deliberately to inspire the Hanzo girls to turn up their training. [[spoiler:She wanted the Hanzo girls to be at their best so the Hebijo girls could defeat them and prove the superiority of the Evil Ninja philosophy... but was less-than-prepared for the Hanzo and Hebijo girls ''working together'']]
* BerserkButton: In the comedy-focused games, it's being called old. She IS 27 after all.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: As the [[PaperThinDisguise 'undercover']] announcer in ''Peach Beach Splash'', she's less busy with actually announcing things and more with harassing Mr K. over their relationship or threatening the camera crew with violence if they zoom in on her face.[[note]]Since the glorious 4K resolution would expose all her wrinkles.[[/note]]
* CareerEndingInjury: [[spoiler:The ill-fated mission left her with a lingering trauma that prevents her from fighting in the front lines.]]
* {{Catchphrase}}: Her old one was [[spoiler:"Love and Peace"]].
* {{Determinator}}: The reason why Daidōji couldn't beat her in the past? Because Rin refused to stay down, no matter how many times she was struck down.
* DidIJustSayThatOutLoud: After telling Mr. K. she has two breasts of her own he can watch getting squeezed after he complains he didn't get to watch the Gessen girls squeeze their own breasts ([[ItMakesSenseInContext long story]]...) in ''Peach Beach Splash''.
* FaceHeelTurn: [[spoiler:She used to attend Hanzo Academy, where she was known as Rin. Like Asuka, she wanted to be a "super ninja" spreading love and peace around the world, and her master, Kiriya, wanted her to succeed. However, on her graduation day, she nearly died from a puppet shooting her, only to be saved from disgrace by Kiriya's intervention. This indulgence on his part backfired after she was declared a shinobi, when she was killed on a dangerous mission... or so the reports said. What really happened was that Hebijo saved her, and she switched her alliance to their cause to follow her own Path of the Shinobi]].
* FlashStep: She does this instead of dashing.
* FuumaShuriken: She uses a pair of collapsible Fuuma Shurikens. By fanning the blades out partially and wearing their rings around her shoulders, she looks like she has wings, which is a look that goes well with her hawk partner.
* GeniusBruiser
* GenerationXerox: Inverted, the anime reveals that she looked exactly the same as Homura, just with purple hair and no tan, during high school. Curiously, Bon Appetit follows this take but changes Rin's hair color to brown.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:Around the end of Crimson Squad story of ''Shinovi Versus'', she decides to abandon Hebijo Academy so that she can pursue the path of kagura]].
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:In the last episode of the anime, she grabs Dōgen in a chokehold and leaps off of the collapsing Hebijo Academy building, to prevent him from activating the Yoke technique to kill her students after failing their mission.]]
* HotTeacher: ''Oh yes''. With such an hourglass figure, you better believe it.
* IOweYouMyLife:
** [[spoiler:In the anime, it was Dōgen who saved her life, which led her to believe that the Evil Shinobi had some noble qualities to them after all. She was not particularly keen to learn he intended on using her in his own little power plays]].
** [[spoiler:In the games, it was Miyabi's father who saved her life, and after she had spend a year recovering, he offered her a job as a teacher. Because she couldn't really return back due of being MIA and because he saved her life, she accepted the offer.]]
* IdenticalStranger: In her youth, she apparently resembled Homura very strongly.
* ImageSong: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irPwpyqOBeg Prepare Yourself, Teacher!]] in ''Bon Appétit''.
* JokeItem: Set of textbooks and pair of giant four-leaved clovers in ''Deep Crimson''.
* LastEpisodeThemeReprise: Her boss theme is an instrumental/synth spin on The Crimson Law, the main theme for the Hebijo girls in Burst, remixed to contain musical cues and motifs from all five of the Crimson Squad's themes. Considering she's the [[SequentialBoss Sequential]] optional boss at the very end of the game, requiring the entire squad to beat her one after another, it's only appropriate.
* LateArrivalSpoiler: The revelation that Suzune is actually Rin has become common knowledge amongst the Senran Kagura fanbase at this point, and you can't really discuss her without it coming up.
* LightningBruiser: Once playable, she is very fast, can take a bit of punishment (even in [[GlassCannon Frantic Mode]]), and has very damaging attacks and arts.

* TheRival: Rin and Daidōji were rival schoolgirls.
* ThePowerOfLove: Her love for [[spoiler:Kiriya]] is so strong in Estival that it allows her to break free from Sayuri's hold on time and arrive to the dimension where the Shinobi Bon Dance is being held.
* ScarfOfAsskicking: A red, patterned one.
* ShadowArchetype: To ''Asuka''. [[spoiler:She was every bit as idealistic as Asuka once had been, but after her almost fatal failure, she joined up with Dōgen/Miyabi's father and began to follow the path of the Evil Shinobi. Since Shinovi Versus, she finally seems to have abandoned this idea and is now setting out on her own path]].
* SingleTargetSexuality: [[spoiler:Its made quite clear that not only does she still love Kiriya like she did when she was a student, but she's also become more aggressive with wanting to know how he feels about her.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: The first mark of this is how she has two different names with their own identities, and how those identities interact with the rest of the cast.

One of the investors behind Hebijo Academy, Dōgen is secretly hell-bent on raining terror across all of Japan. He has the grounding of a shinobi warrior and has mastered the art of manipulation.

Driven by his lust for power, he aims to resurrect ancient demons to do his bidding.

----
* AbusiveParents: Dogen is about the worst father figure Suiren could've ended up with. He went to adopt her after her parents died, not because she was his niece, but because he could use her as a SoulJar in case he died.
* ActuallyADoombot: He pulls this repeatedly on Homura in ''Shinovi Versus'', summoning a bunch of puppet clones of himself and having Homura kill those instead.
* AdaptationDyeJob: In the games and manga, he's blonde. In the anime, his hair is black.
* BadassInANiceSuit: He's actually a veteran shinobi and dressed up pretty nicely.
* BigBad: For much of the game series, the anime's first season (''Ninja Flash''), and the manga adaptations, his schemes to TakeOverTheWorld drive the plot.
** In the original game, he is explicitly ordering the Hebijo girls to steal the Super Secret Ninja Scroll, and the one responsible for summoning Orochi and assimilating the Hebijo girls to do so. The anime and manga, which adapt this storyline, have him play a similar role.
** In ''Shinovi Versus'', he is ultimately [[HijackedByGanon revealed to be this]], not only having manipulated Gessen and Hanzo into fighting each other, but also brainwashing the new Hebijo team into attacking the other schools.
** In ''Deep Crimson'', he leads the yoma invasion of Japan.
** In ''New Link'', he uses Suiren as a SoulJar and attempts to resurrect Orochi
* BigBadDuumvirate: With Orochi in ''Burst'' and ''Deep Crimson'', as he helps sacrifice people to her/it in the former and leads the yoma invasion alongside her/it in the latter, though he is the brains of the operation and thus the more dominant.
* BlackMail: In the Crimson Squad's story in ''Shinovi Versus'', this is how he ensures Miyabi's loyalty rather than brainwashing her like the other new Hebijo girls. He threatens to have her father fired from his position as Hebijo's principles unless she goes along with his plan to wipe out the other schools.
* ChekhovsGunman: He appears very briefly in the Hanzo storyline without even being named, but every aspect of this scene heavily implies that he's a lot more important than his minor role here is letting on.
* CutsceneBoss: In the Hebijo storyline of ''Burst'' and the Crimson storyline of ''Shinovi Versus'', he is effortlessly [[HalftheManHeUsedtoBe cut in half]] by Homura during the visual novel section.
* {{Determinator}}: [[TheSociopath Utterly despicable]] he may be, but even Homura admits his utter dedication to his [[TakeOverTheWorld goal]] is very impressive. She outright admits that if he applied that determination to [[YouCouldHaveUsedYourPowersForGood less selfish goals, he could have made the world a better place]].
* DiabolicalMastermind: He is essentially a crime boss, being that he basically runs Hebijo Academy (a school for renegade shinobi), and he manipulates the shinobi underworld throughout the series as part of his [[TakeOverTheWorld world domination]] plans.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: In ''Deep Crimson'', his second battle initially appears to be the last battle, but even after that he still has some tricks up his sleeve. Then, he fuses with Orochi and it seems like that is the final battle- but afterwards, True Kagura shows up, kills them, and becomes the final boss.
* EarlyBirdCameo: In ''Portrait of Girls'', there is a bit during the Hebijo School raid where an investor talks with Ikaruga on what makes the Hanzo girls so strong compared to Hebijo students, which simply ends with the man leaving the scene. The man has the same voice as Dōgen, suggesting that the man was him before his proper appearance in ''Crimson Girls''.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: He considers things like friendship to be useless, as shown through his TrainingFromHell which seeks to beat such lessons into the heads of the trainees. Ultimately, the heroines prove him wrong by using teamwork to take him down.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He once created an internet bot to sexually harass people... but only verifiably legal ones. Of course, this is as much him trying to stay out of trouble than anything else.
* EvilIsPetty: In addition to all his genuine atrocities, he also one made an internet bot to sexually harass people.
* GrandTheftMe: Does this to his niece Suiren in ''New Link''.
* HateSink: He uses the Crimson Squad to revive Orochi resulting in them going rogue, killed Tsumuji when she was trying to save Homura, had Rin thrown in a holding cell for going against his orders, put the Crimson Girls on a dead man's switch, brainwashed the current ''and'' new Hebijo squad to do his bidding, captures Master Hanzo, and used his own niece as a SoulJar. Luckily, Homura manages to kill the bastard for all the atrocities he committed.
* HijackedByGanon: Twice:
** After seemingly getting killed in the first game, ''Shinovi Versus'' reveals that he is still alive and has been manipulating Miyabi and her squad all along, using them to set up the Shinobi Battle Royale.
** In ''Deep Crimson'', after he is seemingly killed in the second chapter, a squad of yoma known as the yoma generals become the new leaders of the invasion. Turns out he is still alive and had created them.
* HulkingOut: Before his boss battles in ''Deep Crimson'' he does this, first by eating a ''yoma'' fetus when confronted by Rin and Homura, and second by using his MindControl on himself when confronted by Homura and Asuka.
* ImplacableMan: No matter how many times Homura allegedly kills him, he manages come back every single time. You'd swear he has a whole bunch {{BodyDouble}}s stored away just for the occasion.
* NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist: He intentionally causes wars between good and evil shinobi in order to draw out [[TheHeartless yoma]], and initially seems to be doing this so the yoma can be destroyed and peace can be achieved, which is why shinobi were created in the first place. But it turns out that he wants to ''control'' the yoma, not destroy them, and use them to TakeOverTheWorld.
* ItsASmallWorldAfterAll: He and Hanzo seem to have a story together, given the familiarity they refer to each other during their fight in ''Deep Crimson''
** Furthermore, [[https://twitter.com/kenichiro_taka/status/585676417918197761 sketches and comments from Takaki on Twitter]] heavily imply that Dogen was not only a formerly good shinobi but that [[EveryoneWentToSchoolTogether he was also part of a squadron with Hanzo, Kurokage, and Sayuri]].
* LargeAndInCharge: His appearance in the first few games is never shown, but according to game text he's apparently a tall man with a sculpted physique. He does, however, get an appearance in the anime and eventually Senran Kagura 2, as shown above.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frW-zIhO5ZI And To the Edge of Ambition]].
* MadScientist: Not a major aspect to his character, but ''Deep Crimson'' reveals that he created the yoma generals using the blood of the Hanzo and Crimson girls and shaped them to be {{Evil Knockoff}}s.
* TheManBehindTheMonsters: He is behind all of the ''yoma'' in ''Deep Crimson''.
* TheManBehindTheWoman: He is behind Hebijo leaders Homura, Suzune, and Miyabi as their boss.
* ManipulativeBastard: He preys on girls who are down on their luck, like Rin/Suzune and Homura, and molds them into his minions.
* MindControl: He has mastered the art of puppetry what allows him to take control of practically anyone he can talk extensive time with. He even uses it on ''himself'' to make himself unlock the true potential of his ''yoma'' form.
* KilledMidSentence: Is quickly killed by Homura in the Hebijo storyline as he was raving on about how he was going to use Orochi for his own intentions.
* MonochromaticEyes: Well, just a single eye and based on the scar on his right eye implies that he is blind on the right eye due of some sort of battle.
* MysteriousBacker: His motives are a mystery even to the Hebijo school officials.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: His game outfit is a red coat with black ends, and he is a wholly evil DiabolicalMastermind.
* TheSociopath: He is a ManipulativeBastard who will not hesitate to kill even his own minions, and generally shows no care for anyone but himself. In the anime and manga, after activating a SelfDestructButton, he flat-out says that he 'won't lose any sleep' if all his students die.
* TakeOverTheWorld: In all continuities. Where his plans with yoma first imply he is aiming for WarForFunAndProfit, ''Deep Crimson'' drop this as his true motive.
-->''No man in history has ever conquered the entire world. I will be the first and only one!''
* TakingYouWithMe: In the anime and manga, when defeated, he activates a SelfDestructButton (that he somehow had hidden in his ''teeth'') to destroy all of Hebijo Academy and kill everyone inside. Thankfully, the heroines manage to save everyone.
* UnexplainedRecovery: Despite being [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe cut in half]] by Homura, later killed by Homura again, and crushed under a giant yoma, he somehow always returns, no worse for wear.
* TheUnfought: In ''Burst'' and ''Shinovi Versus'', he is killed by Homura in a cutscene, and the FinalBoss goes on to be Orochi and Miyabi, respectively. Finally averted in ''Deep Crimson'', where he is fought twice.
* UnskilledButStrong: Pointed out in ''Deep Crimson''. He's powerful enough to have mastered the puppetry technique, but his impatience and desire for power immediately and without effort means his Shinobi skills are lacking beyond that. Hanzo runs circles around him in a fair fight, and when he pulls out cheap trickery to defeat him, is entirely oblivious to the fact that Hanzo faked his death, and both times you directly fight him in the same game, his primary mode of attack is powerful but visibly wild and clumsy punches.
* VileVillainSaccharineShow: Before he and Orochi appear, the story is a lighthearted {{Fanservice}}-fest with villains who are goofy and shown to be good people deep down. Then he shows up and instantly raises the stakes by being a genuinely evil shinobi who engages in mass-murder, HumanSacrifice, and other atrocities. Every time he appears, the plot gets serious.
* WalkingSpoiler: Even knowing he exists reveals that Homura is not the BigBad she seemed to be. Same goes for his return in ''Shinovi Versus'', as him not being dead and being behind Miyabi is a big twist.
* WarForFunAndProfit: His plan in ''Deep Crimson'' is to sell the yoma as weapons and spark worldwide war. Of course, he then reveals that this is one step in his ultimate plan to TakeOverTheWorld.
* WouldHitAGirl: He has no problem fighting against and brutally killing/sacrificing the heroines and his minions alike. Naturally, this only serves to make him even more despicable.
* YouCouldHaveUsedYourPowersForGood: Homura notes that his determination could have been put to great use for unselfish goals.
* YouHaveFailedMe: In ''Burst'', when the Hebijo girls lose to the Hanzo girls, he sacrifices them to Orochi. In the anime and manga, he instead preemptively invokes the yoke technique, which allows him to remotely kill the Hebijo girls, and threatens them with death if they fail against the Hanzo girls.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: In ''Burst'', he sacrifices Homura's friends to Orochi once they stop being useful to him.

]

Murasame is the son of the Houou family and Ikaruga is his adopted sister. He failed to become the heir of his family's legacy due to a perceived lack of shinobi skills - something his sister has in abundance, which he used to resent her something ''fierce'' for. He wishes that the two of them could put their differences aside, but every time they are together they seem to argue. He's a fourth year at a prestigious economic university where he proves himself to be an excellent businessman.

His weapon of choice is a chain-sickle - and since he won 6th place in a weapon proficiency championship it has not left his side.

-----

* AxCrazy: Well, he did break into his adopted sister's bedroom, and tried to hurt her just to take back their family heirloom by force... ''twice''. He can also fly off the handle sometimes. (He's gotten much better, though).
* BeautyEqualsGoodness: He was first seen on the anime where, in line with his status as antagonist, he had a positively deranged [[http://i.imgur.com/TG60sGh.jpg aspect]]. Contrast it with his official render for [[http://i.imgur.com/b4QyDVs.png Deep Crimson]] (some time after his Heel-Face Turn) where he's a player character and looks really handsome.
** In an amusing subversion of the trope, that change only applies to his character art. His in-game model is still pretty much in line with his anime depiction. He's a more developed and appealing character though.
* BrotherSisterTeam: Gradually becoming more of one with Ikaruga. Notably, his only combination attack can be done with her.
* CharacterDevelopment: Initially, he is just a jealous evil brother, but he starts becoming less of a villain after the first game:
** In ''Shinovi Versus'', [[spoiler:he starts making an active effort to get along with Ikaruga more, to the point where he attends a seminar intended to strengthen sibling bonds]].
** In ''Deep Crimson'' [[spoiler:he follows Ikaruga to Kyoto and he puts an act to get Yomi and Ikaruga closer]]
* {{Fiction 500}}: While the family is prominent in the world of ninja, they are equally prominent in the world of finance. While he sucks at being a shinobi, he excels at business, which his father recognizes.
* GivingSomeoneThePointerFinger: Gives a Phoenix Wright style one to Ikaruga and Yomi.
* GreenEyedMonster: He was an excellent example back in the day, burning over the resentment of being a no-talent that had to be replaced. He successfully managed to convince himself that Ikaruga ''stole'' Hien from him. (He just as notably worked himself ''out'' of this).
* HarmlessVillain: Back when he was still consumed with his grudge over Ikaruga displacing him as heir to the family's AncestralWeapon ''Hien'', he once broke into Ikaruga's room and foolishly challenged her for Hien. She dropped him through a trapdoor. Generally, every time he tries to antagonize Ikaruga, he embarrasses himself and is never a real threat to her.
* HiddenDepths: Despite his incompetence as a ninja, he is actually a phenomenal student and businessman.
* IWasJustPassingThrough: [[ObfuscatingStupidity "I was just being a petty idiot."]] Thanks to how self-centered he was, he's rather skilled at actually making it sound believable. In ''Deep Crimson'', he conceals a good deal of his altruism by acting out exactly the sort of obnoxious cluelessness the viewer had come to expect from him. [[spoiler:Was it a coincidence that he followed Ikaruga to Kyoto to make up for a field trip he missed as a child? Was it actually accidental that he trampled and crushed the red orb [[PersonOfMassDestruction Kagura]] was about to eat and hasten her transformation with? Did he actually intend for his antics to make Yomi sympathize with Ikaruga a little more? Only the latter is certain.]]
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: He's quite insecure about how he pales as a shinobi to Ikaruga, and constantly tries to prove himself to be better than she is. He does end up taking comfort with the fact that he can say he's smarter than she is with him graduating a business course in college.
* {{Jerkass}}: Despite character development, he's still full of himself.
* JokeCharacter: Very much so in ''Senran Kagura 2''. He's got a massive case of WhatTheFuAreYouDoing, suffers the exact same ClothingDamage mechanics as the girls (down to a single pair of white bikini briefs), has only one special and one CombinationAttack (in which Ikaruga does most of the work), no Shinobi Transformation to speak of, and still manages to be a pompous twit nonetheless. In a world with competent and lethal shinobi, he can somehow manage to hold his own.
** LethalJokeCharacter: Surprisingly though, Murasame is actually quite useful as a support character. A lot of his attacks have MercyInvincibility (which normally occurs for the rest of the cast only during their specials); one example is his heavy aerial attack (head-diving straight down and getting stuck up to his neck), which has so much MI, it can be used to avoid multiple attacks. And his heavy attack (swinging his sickle around multiple times) has range what only some Secret Ninja Arts can match, allowing him to shred mooks into pieces all around himself.
* JokeItem: Magical girl wand cosplay toy and an anchor with a fish attacked to a hook in ''Deep Crimson''.
* TheKlutz: He's considered a failure for a reason. Most of his moves involve some combination of hitting himself or tripping.
* LateArrivalSpoiler: ''Deep Crimson'' naturally assumes you know about his HeelFaceTurn in ''Shinovi Versus''.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0rRI0xVD6k Power of 6th Place]]
* LimitBreak:
** Hien Housen: Mode Zero
** The Best Combination (With Ikaruga, ''Deep Crimson'')
* LimpAndLivid: The fact that Murasame is almost ''always'' in this position says a lot about his personality.
* MilesGloriosus: Talks a big game and is ''incredibly'' confident in himself, but is thoroughly outclassed by almost everyone.
* MrFanservice: WordOfGod [[http://www.siliconera.com/2014/06/27/senran-kagura-producer-fan-service-male-character-senran-kagura-2/ stated]] that Murasame gets the same sexy treatment that the girls get. He even mentions perusing certain material in order to get the form right for Murasame's {{fanservice}} scenes.
* OldSaveBonus: You can unlock him in ''Deep Crimson'' with data from a ''Burst'' save. Otherwise, he's DLC.
* TheOneGuy: While not the only male character, he is the only ''playable'' one currently.
* PaperTiger: Just from a glance you could be forgiven for mistaking him for cool and competent, when in reality he's a pompous loser with next to no skill.
* ProgressivelyPrettier: He has two major phases of design, (1) deranged BeadyEyedLoser and (2) MrFanservice.
* PromotedToPlayable: ''Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson'' marks his first playable appearance, as well as the first male to be playable in the series.
* SatelliteCharacter: More or less defined solely by his relationship with Ikaruga.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: In ''Shinovi Versus'' he mentions that the family is a major donor to the school and so he can practically waltz his way in to the secret ninja school by simply name-dropping ''himself''. This is presumably how he snuck into Ikaruga's room earlier in the series.
* StockNinjaWeaponry: He uses a Kusarigama with (perhaps) [some skill.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: Following his character development, he's become quite good looking.
* {{Tsundere}}: A Harsh type. He ''does'' care about his sister, he's just very hesitant to show it.
* TheUnfavorite: [[spoiler:His family thinks he's good for nothing and not capable of inheriting their heirloom katana Hien. Which was why they adopted Ikaruga, who was far more talented, meaning her to inherit the blade and succeed the family as a strong shinobi. He was ''not pleased'' with this, and tried to take Hien from Ikaruga, believing himself to be the rightful inheritor. His efforts were always futile.]]
** In a subversion of the trope, [[spoiler:his family, especially his father, is fully aware that while he sucks as a '''ninja''', he's an excellent businessman, and they're perfectly fine if he goes down that path.]]
* UpperClassTwit: Even after his Heel-Face Turn, he's still a pompous twit. If he doesn't know who you are (even if you happen to be ''Master Hanzo himself''), he'll assume your name wasn't worth knowing in the first place.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: He wears an open coat, which is his only outfit.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Desperately seeks his father's approval, to the point of madness. Proving himself as an outstanding businessman gained him some respect, which in turn made him a nicer guy, but he's still clearly got a chip on his shoulder.
* WhatTheFuAreYouDoing: Playable or no, his parents weren't exactly wrong when they decided he was [[TheKlutz lacking in talent]]. In ''Deep Crimson'', a lot of his combos involve him attacking wildly, kicking dirt, tripping over his chains or getting wrapped up in them. Heck, he'll whack himself in the head ''during his IdleAnimation''.

* BadassAdorable: A rabbit with all the cuteness that ensues, and one that helps Hibrai kick rears.

A young girl whose name happens to have great significance in the shinobi world. While on a school trip, Asuka and her friends found her being chased by yōma and saved her. At first glance, she speaks like a child, but she says things that no child would. Lacking almost any ability to defend herself, she relies on her guardian Naraku for protection.

----
* DarkIsNotEvil: [[spoiler:Though the older and more powerful she grows, the less pleasant and more ruthless she becomes, Kagura still exists for the sole purpose of destroying yōma, which is considered the worst kind of demon, if not the ONLY kind in the world of Senran Kagura.]]
* DemonSlaying: [[spoiler:Kagura's entire existence is devoted to the eradication of Yoma. In fact, she shares a name with the ninja rank ''Kagura'', given to shinobi who specialize in Yoma Hunting (Though for certain reasons, it's doubtful that the Kagura rank exists in the Deep Crimson timeline).]]
* DualAgeModes: Has the ability switch between a little girl, a teenager, and an adult.
* DualBoss: [[spoiler:As soon as she reaches her adult form in ''Deep Crimson'', she fights alongside Naraku before [[FinalBoss she truly awakens]].]]
* EmotionalMaturityIsPhysicalMaturity: [[spoiler:Even though she is over 900 years old (overall age) or less than year old (current reincarnation), her mental state is tied to the state of her physical form. Notable in the Waistdeep DLC where when she reverts from her adult form to her child form, her mentality is reverted back to that of a child.]]
* ExoticEyeDesigns: Her irises look like seven-petalled flower inside two rings.
* FinalBoss: [[spoiler:Of ''Deep Crimson''.]]
* ForgottenFirstMeeting: It was likely that Kagura herself [[spoiler:met the Mikagura Sisters]] before Naraku entered into her life.
* GlassCannon: [[spoiler:In ''Estival Versus'', she has very high attack power, but suffers from mediocre defense. Especially in Frantic Mode.]]
* GlowingEyes: Kagura's eyes in her [[spoiler:True form]] start glowing red as [[PowerGlows a sign of vastly increased power]].
* LateArrivalSpoiler: If you haven't played ''Deep Crimson'' before ''Estival Versus'', [[spoiler:the latter game will flat-out reveal that she's a LivingMacGuffin who was born to [[DemonSlaying slay the Youma]]. Her entry cutscene even shows her consuming a Youma Red Orb to transform from her child form into her adult form, which is a pivotal plot point in ''Deep Crimson''.]]

** [[spoiler:Izanami]]
** [[spoiler:Izanagi]]
** [[spoiler:Susanoo-o]]
* LivingMacGuffin: Is not only being hunted by the yoma, but [[spoiler:by the Hanzo girls who are sent to capture, if not outright kill her. Though her true identity is actually that of a MacGuffinTurnedHuman or MacGuffinSuperPerson.]]
* MoralityPet: She's one to the frighteningly pragmatic Naraku, who has trouble with basic concepts like "don't openly insult people who just saved your life" [[spoiler:or "don't assault innocents to help draw out youma just because it's faster"]].
* PhlebotinumOverdose: [[spoiler:If she keeps on consuming Red Orbs even after she is fully awakened, she will cause a massive explosion before turning back into the Reincarnation Orb]].
* PromotedToPlayable: She and Naraku were confirmed to be upcoming DLC characters in Estival Versus.
* PsychoticSmirk: [[spoiler:Estival gives her this, both in-game and in her character art.]]
* RedEyesTakeWarning: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. [[spoiler:True]] Kagura's eyes are an ominous glowing red, signifying that she's awakened to her full power. Yet she remains heroic.
* SpaceMaster: [[spoiler:Her powers is described as her being able to manipulate space, which she uses to create portals to fire black-red blades, teleport and even "[[InterfaceScrew flip the world upside down]]".]]
* StormOfBlades: [[spoiler:A lot of her attacks work in this manner, summoning red energy blades from spacial rifts to impale her enemies with. These blades seem to have the special capability of [[OneHitKill instantly killing]] the Youma on contact, seeing as how she was able to one-shot Orochi's true form in ''Deep Crimson'' with little effort.]]
* TeleportSpam: [[spoiler:And how! Most apparent in her FinalBoss fight in ''Deep Crimson'' as she'll disappear and reappear constantly around the battlefield.]]
* TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior: In ''Deep Crimson'', she's seen gleefully crushing a fallen Youma underfoot.
* WalkingSpoiler: She is definitely more than what initially meets the eye, and it is utterly impossible to talk about her without spoiling almost everything about who she is.
* WaveMotionGun: [[spoiler:Her [[LimitBreak Ulitimate Hidden Ninpo]] in ''Estival Versus'' works a lot more differently than in ''Deep Crimson'' despite having the same name. Rather than conjure up two giant spacial blades, she instead traps her enemies in a red circle bearing the [[ExoticEyeDesigns same symbol in her eyes]] and then unleashes a massive laser on them from the ground.]]
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: She's surprisingly literate for a girl who's very young. [[spoiler:Less surprising when it's revealed she's a constantly reincarnating demon-slayer who advances in age the more red orbs she eats]].
* YoungAndInCharge: [[spoiler:Sort of.]] We're given every indication that she's the supreme authority of her mountain village's organization. One of the major running gags between her and Naraku is how frequently Naraku has to chide her for lacking some form of common sense, which Kagura then mumbles an apology for... and then how shortly afterwards, [[MoralityPet Kagura chews Naraku out for some breach of basic human decency]], calling it a "serious no-no", and how quickly Naraku bends over backwards to immediately change her official stance. [[spoiler:The ''Waist-Deep'' DLC shows that this dynamic is ''still'' in place, even with Kagura as an adult, the only evident change being how sincere Kagura's apologies are.]]

The FinalBoss of Skirting Shadows, and the final [[WombLevel stage]] of Crimson Girls. In Shinovi Versus, Orochi is revealed to be a Yoma summoned by Dōgen to be used as a weapon of war.
----
* AmbiguousGender: Orochi seems to have a female body and breasts, and True Orochi is definitely feminine in form, but its demonic voice and being a yoma makes it hard to tell.
* BigBadDuumvirate: With Dōgen in ''Burst'' and ''Deep Crimson''. In the former, she/it works with him to sacrifice people to herself/itself, and in the latter she/it leads the yoma invasion alongside him.
* BossRush: In Crimson Girls, you must fight each of the possessed Hebijo students after defeating Asuka.
* CameBackStrong: In a fashion, the creature you face in ''Burst'' and ''Deep Crimson'''s first chapter is an incomplete version. The second time you face her/it is her/its true form.
* DemonicPossession: Does this to the Hebijo students in Crimson Girls, requiring Homura to defeat her comrades in order to set them free. Implied to also be the case in Skirting Shadows.
* DemotedToExtra: In the games, it is in a BigBadDuumvirate with Dōgen. The closest thing it gets to an appearance in the anime is a three-minute cameo as Dōgen's Ninpo, "Giant Serpent".
* DiscOneFinalBoss: In ''Deep Crimson'', she appears to be the final boss as True Orochi, but once she is beaten, Kagura appears and kills her, taking the final boss position as True Kagura.
* EldritchAbomination: She/it seems to be one-third humanoid giant, one-third dragon, and one-third Humongous Mecha. Four of its five necks have no heads on them, instead ending in great masses of bloodstained katanas. It has two bizarre mechanical appendages that can only be described as giant tennis rackets covered in bloodstained katanas. On its central neck is the head of a mecha-dragon, covered in bloodstained katanas, and in the head's mouth is a human face, contorted with rage. Oh, and the sound of its roar is mixed with a baby crying.
** EldritchLocation: Its insides, see WombLevel below. It's a weird red version of the normal world with odd features like floating interfaces in the background and rotating gears on the floor. It also has inexplicable grassy meadows and you can hear Orochi's heartbeat wherever you go.
* GameplayAndStorySegregation: In Crimson Girls, regardless of which character you select the mission with, you will always control Homura during the brief "meadow sequences" leading to the fight against each possessed Hebijo student.
* GiantSpaceFleaOutOfNowhere: After fighting Crimson Homura, seemingly the final boss of ''Skirting Shadows'', this creature comes out of nowhere. Averted in ''Crimson Girls'', which gives a bit more focus to her and reveals what she is doing in Hebijo.

** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNwqnpbRT9o The Giant Bubble that Floats Away]]
* {{Orochi}}: Probably one of the more horrifying renditions of the good old eight-headed serpent.
* TailSlap: A really powerful one at that. In ''Burst'', it can shred through half of your clothing bar in one strike.
* TookALevelInBadass: A curious example since it happens both in-universe and from a gameplay design:
** In its first appearance in ''Burst'', it's a static boss with a limited range of attacks. The ''Deep Crimson'' retelling of that battle overhauls its moveset completely, giving it mobility and a whole new set of attacks.
** Plot-wise, the creature you face is an incomplete form, with its complete form making an appearance in the final chapter of ''Deep Crimson'' as one of the hardest bosses in the franchise.
* VileVillainSaccharineShow: Prior to her and Dōgen's appearance, the story is a lighthearted {{Fanservice}}-fest with villains who are goofy and shown to be good people deep down. Then she shows up and instantly raises the stakes by being a genuinely scary EldritchAbomination who takes the game into creepy territory. The first game actually resembles a ''Franchise/{{Kirby}}'' game in this regard (fanservice not withstanding)- 99% of it is a lighthearted romp, only for the last 1% to abruptly introduce a creepy, eldritch FinalBoss.
* WalkingSpoiler: Her mere existence is a massive twist, as she only appears after beating [[DiscOneFinalBoss Crimson Homura]], and her presence takes the story in a LovecraftLite direction, revealing the true purpose of the shinobi.
* WarmupBoss: Oddly enough, the tutorial for Crimson Girls pits it against Homura in a nightmare sequence.
* WaveMotionGun: One of its attacks is a massive laser beam that can only be avoided by remaining airborne or hiding in a specific spot.
* WombLevel: In Crimson Girls, the final mission takes place inside its body.
* YouDontLookLikeYou: Orochi's brief appearance in the anime looks like five gigantic white worms with {{Lamprey Mouth}}s, four eyes and claws growing around the mouth and its body being covered in flames.
