->'''Voiced by''': Creator/NatsukiHanae (JP), Creator/JustinBriner (EN)

A blonde-haired boy under Frolaytia's command who joined the maintenance battalion so that he could become an Object Engineer. Despite being a civilian student attached to the unit, Qwenthur is frequently on the front lines even though he can't carry a gun.
----
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: Qwenthur confesses that he's "interested in" Milianda to stop an enemy terrorist faction from throwing suicide bombers at her. [[spoiler:It works.]]
* AttackItsWeakPoint: How he always takes out an enemy Object.
* AttractiveBentGender: During his school's cultural festival all the boys in Qwenthur's class were forced to dress as maids as payback from the girls due to them piling up their votes to have their class make a maid cafe. Due to his androgynous looks, Qwenthur's maid persona 'Quensette' was particularly popular, even taking the spotlight away from Monica as she began her idol career.
** Qwenthur is forced to become Quensette yet again during an infiltration mission in Transylvania, and though no images are taken of him due to earlier sabotage of all nearby electronics, the story and rumors of a mysterious maid's appearance in front of a large crowd that stopped the independence movement of the district's southern region make 'Legendary Maid' become the top trending topic for a while much to Qwenthur's dismay.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: He's always making many a ZanyScheme to defeat the latest enemy Object or trounce the VillainOfTheWeek, by analyzing it and finding its weak spot.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: He nerds out over Objects and loves looking at the ladies. Quite apart from having developed and executed any number of crazy plans to destroy enemy Objects, if you threaten civilians or Milinda in particular, he has absolutely no problem blowing you up or just shooting you (even though he's technically not even supposed to be issued a gun).
* BigBrotherInstinct: He proves to be ''very'' protective of Catherine when she's infected with a deadly toxin. Until she's cured he is uncharacteristically ''pissed'' and takes a lot of pleasure in wiping out any soldiers in his way.
* BreakThemByTalking: He's been on both ends of this. In episode 24 of the anime, he was on the receiving end from Honeysuckle, and pulled off a very effective ShutUpHannibal in response. In the lightnovel, when going up against MIB's Object, and listening to them proudly broadcast that the pilot is not an Elite (because the Object is so superior that it doesn't even need to move to win), he deliberately taunts and provokes the pilot into killing himself by doing maneuvers that only Elites can survive. [[BewareTheNiceOnes The rest of his army unit and Havia are utterly terrified.]]
* ChivalrousPervert: He's a teenage boy with a very healthy libido. He's also protective of civilians and especially of the ladies in his life, which ranges from rescuing Milinda twice (once from Faith Organization troops, once from her own rampaging Object in the anime) to getting Frolaytia out of a political marriage (by feeling her up in front of her suitor and telling him they're lovers, which leads back into the "pervert" part).
* CluelessChickMagnet: Qwenthur really has no idea how attractive he is to women, or how many female admirers he has much to Havia's annoyance. Ironically, he's often complaining, loudly, that he wants female "affection" almost to HaremSeeker levels.
* ColdSniper: He was this briefly in episode 2 after he heard what the Faith Organization soldiers [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil had planned]] for Milinda, aka, "The Princess."
* CombatPragmatist: He's not above doing morally ambiguous things in order to survive.
* CrazyEnoughToWork: In-universe. It's because his plans are so bizarre that they're effective.
* DemolitionsExpert: There is very little he '''can't''' do with an explosive. If he doesn't have an explosive on hand, he'll make one from random implements nearby.
* TheDulcineaEffect: Given a choice, he will try to rescue an attractive female, even if she's an enemy soldier, or underage. Although "Princess" is happy he did it for her, him doing it for other women ''really'' annoys her.
* FamedInStory: So much so, that when he's cornered in a workshop with gunpowder, his pursuers get ''very'' nervous. Volume 15 reveals that [[spoiler: the Faith Organization considers him the forefront expert on combat explosives and used him as one of the basis for their Module program to copy particularly skilled humans.]]
* GainingTheWillToKill: When Qwenthur went to save Milinda he hesitated to take a human life. After hearing what the Faith soldiers had planned for her, he immediately opened fire on them. He'll still look for a way to avoid killing if possible but he won't shed any tears if it's necessary.
* HehHehYouSaidX: Qwenthur loves when people unknowingly say something that could be misconstrued as a naughty word, such as Elise mispronouncing borosilicate as borosiliclit, and tries to record them when possible.
* HeroicLineage: Qwenthur's determination to help those in need, particularly innocent girls, apparently comes from his father.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Qwenthur often complains he's only interested in Objects for the money he can make and can be surprisingly callous at times. Despite this he's usually the first to follow his heart when he sees innocents who need help.
* LovableRogue: He isn't above taking anything that isn't nailed down, or disobeying orders if it serves a greater good. He even came up with a plan to steal a 50 meter object as a tactical exercise! [[spoiler: The Legitimacy kingdom goes through with it, and it's a roaring success!]]
* MacGyvering: Besides his explosives Qwenthur is very adept at putting together various tools and weapons, from a simple parabolic antenna to a stun sabre made out of a fencing sports sabre and an AED or an improvised ultrasonic weapon.
* MarshmallowHell: He's been subjected to this, in stereo. His head was once crushed between the rather ample bust of Frolaytia and the ample bust of "Oh Ho Ho's" superior when both women were drunk out of their minds celebrating a holiday party in Oceania. And yes, the women were fighting over him.
* MrExposition: He's often the one pointing out the theory behind an enemy object or organization.
* {{Nerdgasm}}: Seeing advanced technology, particularly Objects, can cause him to begin panting and breathe very heavily.
* NonActionGuy: As a civilian surrounded by trained soldiers and superhuman Elites, Qwenthur often comes up physically lacking. Several characters and the narrator have pointed out how much of a burden he can be at times.
* ObliviousToLove: He is completely unaware of any feelings Princess, or anyone, for that matter, has towards him.
-->'''Princess:''' And don't forget, Qwenthur. When someone gives you Valentine's Day chocolate in the Island Nation, you have to give them a gift worth three times as much on White Day.\
'''Qwenthur:''' [[ComicallyMissingThePoint What kind of loan shark holiday is that!?]]
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: The reason why he wants to be an Object Engineer. He wants to be independently wealthy, as he and his family took in a noble house that lost their title and were driven to heart-breaking poverty as a result, as well as being nearly killed.
* PrettyBoy: Noted in-universe to be androgynous enough that he can pass for a very attractive member of either gender depending on if he wears pants or a skirt.
* ShooOutTheClowns: Volume 15 starts with [[spoiler:his apparent death]], leaving him absent for the rest of the volume. This leaves most of the characters either subdued or angry and results in an even bleaker than normal story.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: It's either Qwenthur (officially in English) or Quenser (Fan translated).
* TranquilFury: When he ''isn't'' being loud, perverted, and wildly immature, that's when you need to '''run''' because he's [[BewareTheSillyOnes royally pissed off.]]
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Havia. They call each other "bad friend."

Qwenthur's best friend, Havia is the heir to a noble family looking to make a name for himself in the military. Despite being listed as a radar analyst his skill with a rifle and role in defeating the Water Strider see him constantly assigned to the front lines.
----
* AristocratsAreEvil: {{Inverted}}. He is a noble in the Legitimacy Kingdom, but unlike many of his fellow noblement he's decent and kind, for the most part. In fact the main reason he's in the military is so he can make his family stop their destructive feud.
* AtomicFBomb: Gives a glorious one when he discovers his mission is to let some terrorist blow up a resort on the moon, the very same one his fiance is on.
* BigDamnHeroes: A lot of times, Qwenthur barely gets away with his life cause Havia either arrives just in time or he finishes the job Qwenthur told him to do.
* BigScrewedUpFamily: His family is very bound to tradition, including their centuries-old grudge with the Vanderbilt family, and Havia's desire to end said grudge is enough to see him mocked. He suspects the only reason the branch families don't try to assassinate him is that it would cause too much trouble with him in the military.
* BlueBlood: The Winchels are a noble family in the Legitimacy Kingdom.
* BrainsAndBondage: He's fairly intelligent and outright admits to enjoying it when Frolaytia beats him up.
* ChivalrousPervert: Just like Qwenthur. He greatly appreciates the "female form" and will proclaim it loudly to anyone, and everyone.
* ColdSniper: Havia has no issue shooting enemy soldiers and even shows little hesitation when it comes to shooting [[spoiler:a rogue Qwenthur]].
%%* JerkWithAHeartOfGold
* TheLancer: Whereas Qwenthur is the expert in Objects, Havia stands out in military combat. He's more down-to-earth in the battlefield, always analyzing the enemies positions to properly react and ensure their survival, but is more lecherous and easy going than Qwenthur as well.
* LovableCoward: Downplayed in he's the more likely of the pair to call it quits if things look impossible. But he'll stick with Qwenthur till the end.
* MassiveNumberedSiblings: He has a lot of siblings due to being a noble. When Azureyfear shows up he can't immediately recall how close she is to him in the line of succession because he has so many sisters.
* MrExposition: When it comes to the politics of nobles, Havia's usually the one giving a detailed explanation. He also gets this sometimes with non-Object military tech as Qwenthur is only interested in Objects.
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: When his fiance videochats him and sees the DVD cover of a porn he was watching, Havia throws the cover away and gives a ''very'' shrill scream.
* StarCrossedLovers: With his fiance. She is from the Vanderbilt, bitter rivals of his family, the Winchels.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Qwenthur.
* WarIsGlorious: Downplayed. While he himself doesn't believe this, his noble family does, and getting a major military accomplishment is the only way he has of ending a centuries-long family feud and marrying his sweetheart, the daughter of the Vanderbilt family.

The Pilot Elite of the First Generation Object "Baby Magnum". She usually supplies the firepower needed for any given mission.
----
* ActionGirl: She's a skilled pilot who has racked up several Object kills, often with minimal or no help from Qwenthur. She was captured twice in the first volume, but both instances were calculated gambits to protect her fellow soldiers.
* ACupAngst: She's very insecure about her body image, and gets wildly jealous when someone with a bigger chest comes along, especially if Qwenthur notices that girl. The only exception seems to be Frolaytia, but that seems to be because Frolaytia is her military commander and direct superior.
* BioAugmentation: Genetically and surgically enhanced to withstand the powerful g-forces and moves required to pilot an Object.
* TheBigGuy: As the Elite, Milinda has the biggest firepower out of the main cast usually. Usually Qwenthur and Havia weaken the enemy Object so Milinda can finish the job.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:Milinda gets brainwashed by Flide in episode 23 of the anime such that she's now basically gone berserk, minus all anger. She's basically been "reprogrammed" to disregard orders and attack any nearby enemies, regardless of any consequences. Thankfully she gets better after the Baby Magnum is disabled.]]
* ChildSoldier: She's barely in her teens, and she's fighting on the front lines in her Object, The Baby Magnum.
* ClingyJealousGirl: She has made it quite clear on several occasions that she doesn't like Qwenthur mingling with other women, often by pointing the Baby Magnum's cannons at him. [[CluelessChickMagnet He still doesn't get it]].
* CripplingOverspecialization: A trait common to all Elites: she can pilot the Baby Magnum, and that's it. Being a JackOfAllStats first-gen Object, Baby Magnum tends to be at least slightly outmatched by any given opponent, and Qwenthur and Havia usually have to make up the difference to give her the edge she needs to win.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Starts out cold and emotionless, but has been thawing out ever since Qwenthur rescued her in Alaska.
* EmotionlessGirl: Subverted. She doesn't emote very well, but she still feels emotion.
* HairIntakes: Her hairstyle has two intakes that resemble little cat ears.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She's described as a "kind but weird girl" who still believes in morale.
* InnocentBlueEyes: She ''is'' sweet and innocent despite the fact she pilots an Object that can solo entire armies. Though the odd tint of her eyes is said to be an effect of the laser light that is part of Baby Magnum's control interface.
* NotSoStoic: She's been shown to be shocked, outraged, angry, disgusted, even having a panic attack when enemy troops used themselves as suicide bombs against her.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: She's often called "Princess". Her true name is seldom mentioned.
* RescueRomance: Is on the receiving end, not that Qwenthur realizes this, at least not at first.
* {{Sleepwalking}}: On one occasion Qwenthur discovered her sleepwalking in her pajamas, eyes open and muttering in her sleep. [[DudeShesLikeInAComa His impulse to cop a feel]] ended up getting him in trouble with her accompanying bodyguards.

[[folder:Major Frolaytia Capistrano]]
!Major Frolaytia Capistrano (フローレイティア=カピストラーノ ''Furōreitia Kapisutorāno'')
[[quoteright:281:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/frolaytia_capistrano.png]]

->'''Voiced by''': Creator/ShizukaIto (JP), Creator/MorganGarrett (EN)

Commander of the Legitimacy Kingdom's 37th Mobile Maintenance Battalion and Qwenthur and Havia's military superior.
----
* ArtisticLicenseBiology: Her family supposedly has a unique genetic trait- they only produce male offspring and they're incredibly fertile to the point that they can even get pregnant with a partner who's impotent. The fact that she's a woman whose family supposedly only produces male offspring gets lampshaded. The rest of it doesn't despite being equally improbable.
* BabyFactory: {{Defied|Trope}}: her military career is a way to avoid being reduced to a bargaining chip in political marriages by her powerful family.
* BigGood: One of the very few commanders who actually follows the "protect and serve" motto of the military, and is often the one who leads Qwenthur, Havia and Milinda in their heroic acts to save the day.
* {{Blackmail}}: She has been known to humiliate Qwenthur and Havia into taking on dangerous missions by threatening their respective porn stashes.
* BlueBlood: Like Havia, she's a noblewoman. And like Havia, she's a decent sort.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: Her chest is a constant source of comedy and {{fanservice}} in the series. They have a habit of bouncing around even when she's standing still. There's a reason Havia dubs her "titan tits".
* CurtainsMatchTheWindows: Purple hair and eyes.
* CyanidePill: Her pistol's main purpose is a quick means of suicide should she face capture and torture by an enemy nation.
* DrillSergeantNasty: She is particularly nasty to "problem soldiers" like Qwenthur and Havia when they don't do things her way.
* {{Expy}}: Of Kaori Kanzaki, even going as far as to share her sub and dub [=VAs=] as well as being [[Creator/KazumaKamachi created by the same author]].
* HairColorDissonance: The novels portray her as platinum blonde, but her illustrations have her with purplish hair.
* ImprobableAge: She's a commander at 18.
%%* JerkWithAHeartOfGold
* LoveableRogue: Is often eager to twist military regulations into a pretzel if she, or the greater good, benefits from it in some way.
* MissionControl: Is often directing combat operations over a mobile computer.
* MsFanservice: She's got huge breasts, curves to die for, and [[TheTease she]] [[ShamelessFanserviceGirl knows it]]. Her hair is also long and silver, for those who like that sort of thing.
* NakedApron: Dons one in Volume 17 to [[DistractedByTheSexy distract the 37th from their plans to punish her for nearly getting them killed]].
* NoOneGetsLeftBehind: When the 37th's base is destroyed in Volume 15, Frolaytia plans to stay at the base and organize the retreating survivors until either everyone is out or the enemy arrives. Bloodrics has to knock her unconscious so he can get her to safety.
* NotSoAboveItAll: While she pretends to obey the Black Uniforms during their inspection for contraband, she had already arranged with Qwenthur a plan to steal back anything that was confiscated.
* {{Otaku}}: She's a big fan of "The Island Nation," and messing with her kisaru is SeriousBusiness. The last person to do so wound up '''dead.'''
%%* PlayboyBunny
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Unlike most of the brass, who want Qwenthur and Havia dead, she will go out of her way to keep them alive, no matter how big a headache they give her, and she is more than happy to reward them well if they succeed better than expected. She is often seen "running interference" on their behalf.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: She is not above erotically showing off her "assets" to Qwenthur and Havia if it will "motivate" them into doing what she wants. She even engaged in a bit of pole-dancing on one occasion.
-->"My indulgence only goes as far as my underwear, Qwenthur!"
* SingleSexOffspring: Her family's "special ability" which made her an especially valuable bride and political bargaining chip.
* SmokingIsCool: Is rarely without her kiseru in hand (though it never seems to actually be lit in the anime).
* TheTease: When she's not being a DrillSergeantNasty, she's this. It's how she keeps Qwenthur and Havia in line. Most of the other officers of the Legitimacy Kingdom fail to realize this... Until the Lost Angels arc.
* UnwantedRescue: In Volume 15, she plans to stay at the 37th's ruined base and oversee the evacuation of survivors as long as possible, even though she will be a priority target for the enemy. After his attempt to reason with her fails, Bloodrics knocks her unconscious and carries her to the evac point.
