!'''(Alternate) Fringe Division'''
[[quoteright:268:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fringedivision001_8356.png]]
The Fringe Division located in the parallel universe. Much like in the prime universe, it is a special-case police force lead by Colonel Philip Broyles that deals with science-related crimes as well as tears and vortexes in space and time. However, unlike the prime Fringe Division, this one is exclusively its own department, and does not consist of members from Homeland Security and the FBI (which doesn't exist in the alternate universe). This Fringe Division reports directly to the United States Department of Defense, and Secretary Walter Bishop. Also, as a consequence of being DOD, and because of its importance, B side Fringe Division seems to have morphed into its own branch of the US Armed Forces, with its own dress uniforms and insignia.
----
Tropes associated with the Alternate Fringe Division:
* TheAce: They're extremely skilled at basically everything.
* DarkerAndEdgier: A lot more ruthless than the normal Fringe Division.
* InSeriesNickname: Invoked so it's easier to differentiate them from the main characters.
* PoliceAreUseless: Due to the various vortex and tears of space fabric, Fringe Division almost entirely replaced standard police in the alternate world.
* RedOniBlueOni: The Red Oni to the other universe's Blue, being more aggressive and militarized.

-->''"You know, being you and living your life, only made me more homesick for my universe. It must be hard to develop trust in people when all you've got is yourself. It must be terribly lonely."''

An Alternate Fringe Division agent working directly for the Secretary of Defense, she is tasked with infiltrating our universe's Fringe Division and posing as Olivia Dunham, while simultaneously coaxing Peter into completing the Wave Sink Device.
-----
Tropes associated with Fauxlivia:
* ActionGirl: Just as good as normal Olivia.
* ActionMom: Becomes one.
* AntiVillain: She's just trying to save her universe.
* BackForTheFinale: Returns to provide crucial help to the A-side Team near the end of the series.
* BadassLongcoat: In 2036.
* BecomingTheMask: Bolivia starts absorbing some of A-Olivia's traits.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Pretends to be nice, when she's just manipulating the A-Fringe Team.
* BloodKnight: Not exactly, but she seems not to have many qualms about killing innocent people. Also seems to have no problem working with the shapeshifters, all of whom are responsible for several deaths.
* BreakTheHaughty: In both timelines.
* DefectorFromDecadence: Ends up defecting.
* DoppelgangerReplacementLoveInterest: [[spoiler: Like his alternate,]] Lincoln is madly in love with her. [[spoiler: To the point of crossing universes.]]
* DrowningMySorrows: She doesn't drink and, unlike Olivia, has a no tolerance for alcohol. [[spoiler: But she does finish off a few glasses when Lincoln dies.]]
* FemmeFataleSpy: Hilariously lampshaded by Walter. He actually calls her UsefulNotes/MataHari in Season 4 ([[CrackPairing even when there was no Peter for her to seduce]]).
* FieryRedhead: A lot more aggressive than regular Olivia.
* FriendlySniper: She's a fairly cheerful woman most of the time. She also has an Olympic gold medal in marksmanship.
* HappilyMarried: To the Lincoln Lee [[spoiler: from the Blue Universe.]]
* HeartbrokenBadass: In season 3, when Frank leaves (admittedly for a good reason). In season 4, Frank leaves ''again'' and then [[spoiler: Lincoln dies.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: As of ''"6:02 am"''.
* HotBlooded: Very aggressive.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: Has an [[UsefulNotes/OlympicGames Olympic]] gold medal in marksmanship. Put to good use in ''"Everything In Its Right Place"''
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She fluctuates between [[SmugSnake smug]] [[ManipulativeBitch bitch]] and fun loving, affectionate friend depending on whether or not you're in her good books.
* [[ManipulativeBastard Manipulative Bitch]]: With regards to Peter.
* MadeOfIron
* MostDefinitelyNotAVillain: When she takes A-Side Olivia's place (immediately after a mission to the B-side, which has both shapeshifters and alternates), no one really notices that her personality has changed entirely.
* MysticalPregnancy: After she returns from the blue universe pregnant with Peter's child, her pregnancy is nightmarishly accelerated by Walternate.
* OddFriendship: With Walter.
* PregnantBadass: With her son.
* PsychoticSmirk: Prone to these every now and then.
* RealAwardFictionalCharacter: She competed in the [[UsefulNotes/OlympicGames Olympics]] and won gold for marksmanship.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: She likes the "nice guys" apparently.
* SmugSnake: Comes across as this every now and then. Her confrontation with our Olivia and her "[[WhatMeasureIsANonHuman I could befriend a vacuum cleaner]]" comment to Newton [[spoiler: after she's given him a virus to off himself with]] stand out.
** The way she mocks Walternate when he realizes that [[spoiler: our universe activated the machine and turned it against the alternate universe]] also counts.
** It's never stated outright, but there are hints that Fauxlivia is not nearly as clever as she thinks he is. While the prime Olivia is brainwashed and planted in the alternate Fringe division, she solves cases and has insights that her colleagues are frequently impressed by, implying that Fauxlivia is not known for this. At the same time, while Fauxlivia has infiltrated the Prime universe, she blunders through cases, botches the shapeshifter operation, and her attempt to act like prime Olivia is pretty rudimentary (only keeping her cover by everyone in the prime universe failing to recognize these extremely obvious signs).
* SpotTheImposter: Spotting that she's not A-side Olivia.
* StepfordSmiler: She has a tendency to smile when she's miserable.
* TheTeetotaler: It's established early on that she can't stand the taste of alcohol. She makes an exception after [[spoiler:her universe's Lincoln dies]] and Walter finds her drinking heavily to deal with it.

''Portrayed by Creator/JohnNoble''
->''First Appearance:'' Season 2, Episode 16: "Peter"
->''Episode Appearances:'' 19 of 100

The BigBad for the second and third seasons. A former US Government scientist, and current Secretary of Defense, the alternate universe's Walter Bishop is a stark contrast with ours: Calm, calculating, and manipulative, he freely uses the Fringe Division to attain his goals.
-----
Tropes associated with Walternate:
* AlternateUniverseReedRichardsIsAwesome: And utterly ''terrifying!''
* ArchnemesisDad: For Peter Bishop.
* BigBad: Of the first 3 seasons.
* DrowningMySorrows: AlternateCharacterInterpretation aside, the guy looked genuinely heartbroken after [[spoiler: his son was kidnapped]] and (like his opposite) tried to drink himself into oblivion to [[TearJerker stop the pain.]]
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He's extremely protective of children, and refuses to use them for any scientific experimentation, no matter how beneficial. Interestingly, despite being the BigBad, he draws the line where our Walter does not. [[spoiler: This is a result of his son being kidnapped, which our Walter did not experience.]]
* MadScientist: A cool-headed example.
* ManipulativeBastard: '' "I'm still a scientist Brandon; I just have a much larger laboratory." ''
* OmnicidalManiac: As of "6:02 A.M.", ''most definitely''.
* PapaWolf: He still loves his son, and wants him back just as much as anything. ...Or does he?
* PrematurelyGreyHaired: Regular Walter has a few grey-hairs, but Walternate has a ''lot'' more. Presumably from stress.
* PresidentEvil: Let's be honest, Walternate practically ''rules'' this universe.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: in "The Day We Died", [[spoiler: he would [[PlanetKiller destroy the A Universe]] to avenge the loss of the B Universe]].
* SharpDressedMan: He always dresses in a grey suit.
* TranquilFury: Walternate ''never'' raises his voice but has been almost perpetually pissed off since his introduction.
* TheUnfettered: Subverted. At first, it seems like he will stop at nothing to achieve his goals, but he draws the line at experimenting on children and refuses to even consider it.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: He wants to save his universe, only at the cost of another one.
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: Occasionally came off as this. Not so much in the final.
* WouldntHurtAChild: Due to losing Peter, he's extra protective of children in general. He refuses to even consider testing cortexiphan on children. However, [[spoiler: in the BadFuture of the S3 finale, over the last 15 years he's become willing to destroy the entire A Universe-- and ''especially'' Peter-- out of pure revenge.]]
* YouHaveFailedMe: He has [[spoiler:Broyles killed pretty quickly after discovering that he helped Olivia escape]].

!!!'''Philip Broyles / "Dopple-Broyles"'''

[[caption-width-right:268:"My world is dying because of what your side is doing to us."]]

-->''"Two weeks into the job, we had that vortex in the East River. A hundred and sixty-five people swallowed up. Half of 'em kids. And it's gotten even worse since then. Now we may actually have a chance to start to put our world back together. Fix it. Only thing is, to do that, we're gonna have to go to war. A lot of lives will be lost. An unimaginable number. And I don't know if I can live with that. There may be another option, but it could put everything at risk. Either way, who am I to play God With other people's lives? Who am I to make that choice?"''

''Portrayed by Creator/LanceReddick''
->''First Appearance:'' Season 2, Episode 22: "Over There, Part 1"
->''Episode Appearances:'' 14 of 100

The direct head of Fringe Division as Colonel, working for the Secretary of Defense. Broyles is...he's actually not terribly different to his counterpart.
-----
Tropes associated with Dopple-Broyles:
* BenevolentBoss: Like A-side Broyles, he's very accommodating.
* DaChief: As the nearby authority figure.
* DeathGlare: Just look at his face.
* HappilyMarried: He never divorced and has a happy family life.
* HeelFaceTurn: Switches sides upon realizing Olivia's right.
* HeroicSacrifice: To buy time for Olivia to leave.
* HonorBeforeReason: His reason for helping Olivia.
* KilledOffForReal: Shot to death by Fringe Guards.
* MrFanservice: In contrast to his main counterpart who almost always wears suits, this Broyles favors casual wear and t-shirts that show off his ripped physique.
* PapaWolf: With regards to Olivia.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: [[spoiler: Indebted to Olivia for saving his son's life and catching the "Candyman", he ends up [[HeelFaceTurn helping our Olivia]] get back to her universe. She gets back, but it doesn't end so well for him...]]
* TheStoic: Very little emotional range.
* YouHaveOutLivedYourUsefulness: Says Walternate.
* ZenSurvivor: Very calm despite all the losses.

[[folder:Astrid Farnsworth]]
!!!'''Astrid Farnsworth / "Astrid-Instance"'''
[[quoteright:268:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alterastrid_6363.png]]
[[caption-width-right:268:"[[EmotionlessGirl ...Calculating.]]"]]

-->''"Thirty-seven people in the intersection, twenty-two cars, four trucks, two buses, wind speeds of five to ten miles an hour, and that is just to start. In total, we are talking about a hundred and twenty variables in a dynamic system of differential equations. I can't solve that kind of a problem, much less manipulate the outcome to my advantage."''

''Portrayed by [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jasika_Nicole Jasika Nicole]]''
->''First Appearance:'' Season 2, Episode 22: "Over There, Part 1"
->''Episode Appearances:'' 15 of 100

A young Fringe Division agent, she mainly works as mission support for the team. Unlike her smart and friendly counterpart from our universe, this Agent Farnsworth is calculating to the point of seemingly lacking any and all emotions; in fact, she doesn't lack emotions, but has trouble expressing them. She appears to lack certain other social skills as well.
-----
Tropes associated with Agent-Instance:
* DidYouThinkICantFeel: After [[spoiler:her father dies]] the rest of her team underestimate how much she's grieving as they don't expect her to be emotional.
* EmotionlessGirl: Is very economic with emotions.
* HollywoodAutism: While she's never outright referred to as autistic her speech patterns and limited emotional displays indicate she's somewhere on the spectrum. Jasika Nicole based her peformance on her real-life sister who is autistic.
* TheIgor: Again like A-side Astrid.
* MissionControl: For the B-side Fringe team.
%%* MilitaryBrat: Military family.
* NoSocialSkills: Due her implied autism, she often has trouble communicating with others. [[spoiler:She briefly wonders if this led to her father loving her less because she couldn't show her love for him in a way he understood.]]
* NotSoStoic: She has some moments of strong emotions, such as her delighted reaction to experiencing real coffee (which is extremely scarce in her universe) during a visit to A-universe.
* SpockSpeak: Overly formal.
* TheStoic: Stoic to a fault.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: She loves the smell of coffee. A-side Astrid brings her a can of coffee beans as a gift since it's so rare in the B-universe.

-->''"Livvy, this job isn't what it was ten years ago. You’ve got alternate universes. I mean, it just -- just wasn't part of my training, you know? I mean, how are we supposed to fight these people? Truth is, Livvy, this makes me feel obsolete, you know?"''

''Portrayed by Creator/KirkAcevedo''
->''First Appearance:'' Season 1, Episode 19: "The Road Not Taken"
->''Episode Appearances:'' 9 of 100

Fringe Division agent, and longtime friend of Olivia's and Lincoln's, he usually accompanies them on missions.
-----
Tropes associated with Scarlie:
* BodyHorror: He has ''spiders growing inside him''.
* DeadpanSnarker: Very sarcastic.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: The whole spider incident seems to have left him heavily scarred.
* NoodleIncident: A particular past case ended up with Charlie having worms infesting his body...
** [[RunningGag They're not worms,]] [[InsistentTerminology they're arachnids.]]
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: No one is ''ever'' going to let him forget that he's infected with arachnids.
* OnlySaneMan: For the B-side Team.
* PutOnABus: Nowhere to be seen since Season 4 started. Apparently he married Bug Girl.

* BerserkButton: Harming Fauxlivia.
* ColonelBadass: Got promoted to this following [[spoiler: Broyles' death.]]
