[[folder:Tions House]]

!!Rosof Tions Sarghress
One of the few male leaders in the worldsetting and Dev'ess of the Tions subhouse, Rosof is the closest thing Quain'tana has to a right hand man and is the leader of the elite Wolfriders. As a result of spending so much time on the surface he is also suffering from mana deprivation and slowly dying.

%%* AllLoveIsUnrequited: To Quain'tana, via WordOfGod.
* CoolOldGuy: Though most drow men are substantially old, he stands out by actually ''looking'' old.
%%* DefeatMeansFriendship: After Quain'tana beat him at Machike.
* EyeScream: Lost his eye in his duel with Quain'tana.
* IWasQuiteALooker: Before the mana deprivation set in he was [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=125 quite handsome]], and his descendants aren't bad either.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Compared to the bull-headed and rash Quain'tana.
* SheIsTheKing: Gender inverted, since he's apparently formally referred to as the Dev'ess of the Tions house despite being a male. It's speculated that there simply aren't enough males in his position for anyone to have invented any other term.
* OldSoldier: Though he may not be especially old by drow standards, he stands out as this trope because he's one of the few that actually ''looks'' old.
* TinyGuyHugeGirl: He doesn't even come up to [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=4498 Quain'tana's shoulder]] in the present day and wasn't much taller before mana deprivation set in.
* TokenMinority: He's pretty much the only male Dev'ess in the entire drow world, but considering that he not only took on Quain'tana and survived, but also managed to make her ''stop and think'' even after she'd beaten him and might have just killed him he's one tough S.O.B. Not to mention that he got the Sarghress wolf mounts at the cost of mana deprivation and has been Quain'tana's right hand man for centuries, playing a large part in earning them Val status, so the man has ''fucking earned it''.
* TurnCoat: Albeit Rosof is a more positive take on this trope, but as seen in the Machike takeover side-story, he was originally a member of a female Dark Elf's army, until she was killed by Quain'tana and the latter later defeated him in combat.
* YourDaysAreNumbered: Due to the mana deprivation he doesn't have much longer to live, and knows it. He was shown to have survived the first timeskip, but mysteriously vanished and is presumed dead by the second, only adding to the Sarghress clan's SuccessionCrisis.

!! Nei'kalsa Tions Sarghress
Rosof's granddaughter and the heir to the Tions. She's also Sarnel's caretaker as well as being his sister.

* AffectionateGestureToTheHead: Keeps her hand placed on Sarnel's head as they watch Ariel beat Mir'kiin too death.
%%* TheCaretaker: To Sarnel.
%%* CoolBigSis: Again, to Sarnel.
* GoodParents: Just compare [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=6205 her interactions with Sarnel]] with Syphile's interactions with Ariel, it's night and day.
* InnocentBlueEyes: She has the Tions blue eyes, which seems to emphasize her motherly qualities.
* LongestPregnancyEver: WordOfGod is that she is pregnant in [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=4664 this scene]], which was published in December of 2007, and while only a few months passed in-story until the end of chapter 32 and the timeskip, she was pregnant for nearly four years of real time. The reason WordOfGod was needed to show that she's pregnant is because it isn't immediately apparent, and only certain pages are at the right angle to show the baby bump. Fans were actually first clued in that she was pregnant due to the fact that she [[HandOnWomb puts her hand over her stomach]] several times during the scene. Which incidentally justifies [[MotherlySidePlait the braid on the side]].
* ShipperOnDeck: For Ariel/Sarnel. Sarnel for his part was [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=8742 not amused]].

!! Sarnel Tions Sarghress
Rosof's grandson and a peer of Ariel. He is also the brother of Nei'kalsa and [[spoiler: biologically Ariel's second cousin]] as he is Kel'noz's grandson via his maternal lineage.

* AngerBornOfWorry: Faen implies his constant annoyance at Shala's mistakes is because he really does care about her, on top of being her commanding officer.
* BigDamnHeroes: In chapter 46 [[spoiler:after spending a long time off panel fighting Sasi, he makes his triumphant return to where Kalki is holding Ariel, Kau and Shala and provides a distraction for long enough that Ariel can tackle Kalki and take her arm]].
* BrokenBird: He did not take news of [[spoiler: Shala's death]] well, at all. The last words he said about her before he found out, don't help.
* CoveredWithScars: His multiple encounters with Maki during the attack on North Cliff resulted in him gaining countless burn scars all over his body, amusingly enough shown off when he is [[spoiler: lying naked in bed with Shala.]]
* TheDeterminator: Demonstrates this when despite getting burnt by [[spoiler: Maki]] what's implied to be several times he keeps after her.
* DidTheyOrDidntThey: Was heavily implied to have slept with Shala after the North Cliff attack. [[spoiler: Is shown lying naked and covered in sweat in a bed with Shala a few chapters later, confirming it.]]
* DistaffCounterpart: In many ways, to Ariel.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: The scars covering most of his face sure don't make the guy any less handsome.
* HarsherInHindsight: In universe. Thinking Shala was merely asleep, as part of their natural mutual teasing, he said "that should shut her up for a while." Then he found out she stopped breathing... To say he took it poorly is an understatement.
* HonorBeforeReason: Was taught that the clan is above all else.
* JackieRobinsonStory: the fact that he got promoted to squad leader, [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=8358 and it seems not everyone's happy about it]] since he's a male.
* JustFriends: Quain'tana and Rosof tried to hook him up with Ariel during the timeskip, but it didn't work out.
* KissingCousins: Averted, since even though their family tried to hook them up he didn't wind up going out with Ariel. The two of them are only distantly related through Quain'tana, since Ariel is legally his great aunt [[spoiler:and genetically his second cousin]].
* NotSoAboveItAll: It seems that even Mr. Stoic Sarnel [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=8742 isn't above losing his temper]] when he finds out that Nei'kalsa is trying to set him and Ariel up.
* NotSoStoic: Going by Shala's word, he did not react well the first time Shala did ''something'' to him. Played much more seriously when [[spoiler:he's still clearly devastated by her death]] in chapter 47.
* IcyBlueEyes: While all of the Tions seen so far have blue eyes, Sarnel's are best described as this.
* {{Ragequit}}: Ariel even [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=8742 uses the word ragequit]] when describing how he left in a huff after finding out that his family was trying to set up him up with Ariel.
* TheReliableOne: Is planning to be this to Ariel, much like his grandfather is for Quain'tana.
* TheStoic: To the point that you can count the number of times he's smiled on panel on one hand.
* TragicKeepsake: In chapter 47 he's shown clutching [[spoiler:[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=10521 Shala's hairband]] in the wake of her death.]]
* {{Tsundere}}: He cares deeply for Shala, but his [[TheStoic stoic]] and serious attitude, as well as being her commanding officer mean he doesn't show it and is less likely to admit it.

[[folder:Niz'zre House]]

!! Sang Niz'zre Sarghress
First appears in Chapter 8, she's Kor'maril's mother and devess of the Niz'zre House. Most of the information on her and the other Dev'esses can be found in the [[http://www.drowtales.com/wordpress/?p=821 Sarghress Dev'ess podcast]].

* AmbitionIsEvil: According to Kel'noz, she has always been hungry for power, and [[spoiler:after the Nidraa'chal complain to her that Ariel would not cooperate with them, she is more than happy to declare Ariel a "traitor" and launch a coup against her]].
* ArtificialLimbs: All four of her limbs were cut off by the Sharen, so she got replacements.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: She acts very friendly to Ariel and the story doesn't show so much as a hint of her true colors up until Quain'tana starts approaching her death bed. As soon as Ariel's position as [[spoiler:leader of the Sarghress clan]] becomes unstable enough, Sang uses the excuse to try and eliminate her.
* TheCoup: [[spoiler:Not long after Ariel becomes the nominal leader of the Sarghress clan, Sang betrays Ariel and heads an operation intended to eliminate her and Kel'noz.]]
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Combined with BodyHorror. Death by demon is never pretty, but for her, it's considerably worse than usual.
* DramaticIrony: It hasn't been addressed in story, but fans have speculated about whether she knows that [[spoiler:Kor'maril fathered Sil'lice's twins]] since it's very likely that Sil'lice herself or one of her descendants was in charge of Sang's torture when she was captured.
* ExtraOredinary: She has metal affinity, allowing her to manipulate her prosthetics and punch through armor as if it were a liquid.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Combined with DidNotThinkThisThrough. She chases Kel'noz into a demon infested area, with earth foci in her artificial limbs, and keeps them there. Guess what a demon decides to target...
* {{Hypocrite}}:
** She claims to hate Quain's bloodline for terminal recklessness, but she's allied with Nids who see nothing wrong with opening an uncontrolled nether-gate in a densely populated city, leads an indiscriminate attack against a neutral colony, and repeatedly ordered head-on charges against the air-ship's massive mana cannons... Fans wonder how she doesn't realize how reckless any of that is...
** What's more, for quite a bit of chapter 54, she's been taunting Kel'noz with "it didn't have to be this way" as she was trying to kill him and take the reins of the clan. When Kel says the same thing while she's in trouble, she goes "fuck you."
** As part of her anti-Val credo, she goes out of her way to commit ThePurge against the Sarghress [[BlueBlood Vals]], despite them having already voluntarily gone into effective exile. And yet, she is apparently working on behalf of Vals from other clans.
* KickTheDog: [[spoiler:She takes {{Innocent Bystander}}s as hostages while attempting to kill Ariel.]]
* KilledOffScreen: [[spoiler: After being overcome and consumed by a bunch of demons, she's laid in a carriage.]] Only her corpse is shown to the audience, the exact particulars are not revealed, though WordOfGod says that it is likely she was {{Mercy Kill}}ed...
* MeaningfulName: ''Sang'' means "blood" in French.
* MortonsFork: Invoked. When a rogue demon infests her synthetic arm as she's dueling Kel'Noz, she's got two choices, let the demon ravage her while she continues the fight or call for help and make herself look bad to her troops. [[spoiler:She chooses the latter.]]
* MightMakesRight: Tells Ky'onne that the Sarghress don't care about Ky'onne's idealism and follow her instead of Ariel because she's stronger.
* NeverMyFault: Her final words are screaming "You caused all...this. You and Quain. So...Damn, blind. We could have... We could have... AUUUGHH!"
* OneSteveLimit: Averted as there's also a Sang'oro in the Kyorl.
* PintsizedPowerhouse: WordOfGod calls her "small and mean". He later showcases that as small and fragile as she looks, she's dangerous, by having her effortlessly defeat two of Ariel's loyalists despite them using MiniMecha.
* PlayingTheVictimCard: She's quite fond of justifying her extreme viewpoints and actions by pointing to her golem limbs and proclaiming the abuses she suffered at Sharen hands. This starts to ring hollow when she starts dishing out those same abuses to seize and maintain power.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: After successfully leading a [[spoiler:coup against Ariel's leadership]], she gives one to Kel'noz, describing Quain'tana's entire bloodline as a bunch of damned reckless fools.
* RevengeBeforeReason: She was upset that Quain'tana's bloodline effectively became [[BlueBlood Vals]] themselves when Quain'tana had sworn to help her obtain revenge against the ruling class. She ultimately ends up turning on Quain'tana's descendants, despite them having never done anything to her and having already departed into voluntary exile.
* SheWhoFightsMonsters: In her mad lust for vengeance against the Sharen Vals, she's become exactly like them, and is completely unaware.

!! Kor'maril Niz'zre Val'Sarghress
Sang's son, he was adopted by Quain'tana in recognition of his deeds.

* TheCavalry: [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=4434 Shows up to save Ariel from Jer'kol]].
%%* BladeBelowTheShoulder
* GlorifiedSpermDonor: Par for the course among Drowolath nobles. Needless to say, his delayed family reunion with his son, Kau, is rather awkward. Especially due to the fact that they fought on opposite sides of a coup, resulting in his faction taking his son prisoner.
* LightningBruiser: As Jer'kol [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=4441 found out the hard way]].
* MrFanservice: Both InUniverse and out, since he's had at least one mate and has fathered [[spoiler:Sil'lice's twins]].
* PintsizedPowerhouse: Like his mother, don't let his size fool you, which is what [[spoiler:Sil'lice]] found attractive about him. Additionally, it's actually possible to see that [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=4442 Vaelia]] is taller than he is, which likely puts him around five foot.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: After capturing Ariel for "treason", he puts her down over the damage her loyalists did to Felde.
* ReluctantRuler: With his mother, Sang, the only remaining Chelian Sarghress authority figure slain, he is forced to take the reigns of the Sarghress Legion.

!! Jak'iaah Niz'zre Sarghress*[[note]]Created by Jak'iaah[[/note]]
A veteran squad leader in the Homeguard Brawlers and mate to Kev'vren. Appears in Chapters 40, 44, 47, and 50. Her concept art can be found [[http://www.drowtales.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/20121010-jakkiah-news.jpg here]], [[http://drowtales.deviantart.com/art/Ch47-Jakkiah-509367820 here]], and [[http://www.drowtales.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Jakkiah1.png here]].

* CanonImmigrant: Inverted. She's one of the few cameos from the Relic Hunters RPG that appeared in the main comic ''first''.
* DishingOutDirt: Has an earth affinity.
%%* HiddenHeartOfGold: She hides it under a brusque exterior, but it's there.
%%* IronLady
%%* MamaBear: Woe befall any who would harm ''her'' boys.
%%* AMotherToHerMen
%%* PlayerCharacter: Of the Relic Hunters side-comic.
%%* PowerHair
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Does not take kindly to Sorin executing a prisoner, and strongly rebukes him for this.
* ScarsAreForever: She's missing a large portion of her left ear.
* SergeantRock: She's seasoned, tough, and spends half her time keeping her boys in line.
* TheStoic: While the other boys in her squad freak out at the sight of a Black Sun, she just looks [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=8978 mildly annoyed]].
* ThereWasADoor: She decides that the best way in is to [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=8978 make a door for them]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Nori'fu House]]

!! Suu'be Nori'fu Sarghress
The Dev'ess of the Nori'fu House and Koil'dorath's mother. She's vocally displeased with the way Quain'tana has been leading the clan.

* AmbiguousSituation: Her troops are caught red-handed [[spoiler: either attempting infanticide of Quain's grandchildren, or being accomplices after the fact and trying to frame Jiv'kyn.]] She is clearly not happy and glaring at her subordinates, but is it because they failed and got caught, or because they exceeded their mandate and did something she doesn't approve of? Either way, one thing is certain, she's neck deep in this and Quain '''won't''' be talked down a second time.
* AssholeVictim: Most of the debate on the forums stems from the very public way the beating is delivered, and the long-term ramifications, not the question of her having earned it. Even in-universe, nobody rushes to her aid or even mouths an objection.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: She wanted the raging, unstoppable Quain that formed the Sarghress clan to take down the Sharen, loathing Ariel for getting Quain to mellow. She gets her wish.
* BerserkButton: She manages to [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7589 hit Quain's]] by saying Ariel isn't ready yet.
%%* BraidsOfBarbarism
* BrawnHilda: Even more so than Quain'tana since she has more lines on her face.
* BullyingADragon: Ariel shows up with an army of Tion's house, and Su'ube knows Ariel's been imprisoned, attacked by Riviel and a squad of thugs from House Nori'fu, and Ariel has first-hand knowledge that there are agents from house Nori'fu trying to kill Quain's bloodline because Ariel just publicly announced the attempt (though not the identity of the suspects), yet rather than back down and save face when Ariel gives her the opportunity, Su'ube thinks it's a good idea to grab Ariel by the throat and threaten her with a sword. Seems she has confused Ariel's previous respect for her rank for outright weakness.
* TheCoup: There is no longer any room for ambiguity after page 207. She raises her sword high and yells out loudly that "legends are better off dead" as she plans to behead Quain.
%%* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Though her hair is likely dyed.
* DeathByIrony: After a sniper shoots at Ariel with a crossbow on page 209, thus distracting Ariel and the Tions that are escorting her, Su'ube shoves Ariel aside and raises her sword to strike at Quain on the ground. What Su'ube failed to realize is that Ariel wasn't just protecting Quain from Su'ube. Ariel was also protecting Su'ube from Quain. Su'ube's foolish actions not only put her in Quain's reach, but gave Quain more than sufficient justification to kill her with her bare hands. Which Quain does.
* DiggingYourselfDeeper: When she finally realizes that Quain is standing right behind her as she's openly spouting treason, rather than face Quain head-on, she tries to backpedal and placate Quain with empty platitudes, insincere apologies, and false excuses about "concern for the clan." The last drow to try something similar got both her arms broken, and a rather unpleasant stay in a dungeon. Of note is that Quain was in a ''much'' better mood then as her clan was celebrating a significant victory, and Quain hadn't just endured ''days'' of severe, non-stop agony. Anything less than the NoHoldsBarredBeatdown she got would have forced Quain to apologize to Mel, and Quain ''never'' apologizes.
* DirtyCoward: Oh, she's perfectly fine slandering, provoking, and threatening Ariel, who knows better than fight back, even going so far as to spout treason by saying Koil ''will'' lead the clan, not her, against Quain's wishes, but when she's up against Quain, she brings an army, wears head-to-toe platemail, and shouts orders from the back, and ''still runs for the hills'' when Quain, having had enough, comes at her wearing a shirt, pants and holding one badly damaged sword, not to mention making false apologies and excuses when she realizes Quain ''heard her'' when she openly spouted starting a coup.
* DisproportionateRetribution: It's confirmed that her household has orders to ''wipe out Quain's bloodline'', presumably in response to Su'ube getting a beatdown, ''after openly spouting treason.'' [[spoiler: They're trying to foolishly shift the blame by framing the Fallen Legion.]]
* GeneralFailure: Page 217 reveals that her orders were to bring Quain's grandchildren to her house, '''alive''', before the Sang household can do the same, but the squad she chose to do so, is not only irrationally "anti-val" but notorious for being insanely blood-thirsty, and lacking in discipline, thinking that painting Su'bue's hands with the blood of Quain's offspring, and taking the corpses as trophies would somehow serve Su'ube's interests better. How she expected not to wind up facing an enraged Quain motivated by the attack on her bloodline is anyone's guess.
* InsaneTrollLogic: Possibly combined with SunkCostFallacy. She has convinced herself, by twisting logic and reason into a gordian knot, that beheading Quain, wiping out Quain's bloodline, and sending those Sarg that survive the resulting civil war on a suicidal charge against Zala's faction of the Sharen is somehow serving the long-term interests of the clan as a whole, merely because the Sarg clan has been fighting the Sharen's treachery, oppression, and abuses for centuries, and if the Sarg's don't completely genocide the Sharen, or die trying, then the entire previous war was entirely pointless. In fact, she's convinced that any attempt to restore the clan by any other means, including actually healing Quain, instead of just giving lip service to the attempt, will only serve to make things worse.
* InspirationalMartyr: [[spoiler:She is a very popular leader within the Sarghress clan, particularly among the lowborn soldiers that make up the bulk of its military force. Quain'tana always feared that if she ever tried to get rid of Suu'be, CivilWar would fracture the clan. After Suu'be's death at Quain'tana's hands, a large portion of the Sarghress army split away and become an independent force that eventually joins Snadhya'rune's army. In the eyes of these traitors, Snad has the same goal as Suu'be: to destroy the hated BlueBlood of the clans, which unfortunately now includes Ariel, the new Illharess of the Sarghress clan.]]
* IrrationalHatred: Her hatred for Ariel goes down to a personal level, despite Ariel being little more than a pawn in the Sarghress clan's politics and the fact that Ariel actually ''agrees'' Suu'be's daughter would be a better choice for heir.
* IRejectYourReality: Even though Ariel offers the clan rulership to Koil, and Koil refuses, right in front of her face, Su'ube insists that Ariel "get it through [her] tiny and spoiled head that Koil will rule the clan." Then ''loudly'' declares that someone has to "speak up" while Quain is coming out of the "healing" tent, having endured something that has her scream, loudly, due to the pain, plus the fact that Quain's quite bitter about the fact that Mel's openly helping the Nidraa'chal. Ariel's quite right to flinch as to what she perceives coming.
* MakeItLookLikeAnAccident: Quain'tana [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=101 implies]] and Rosof outright [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=346 states]] that Suu'be and Mandroga would either use Ariel for her own purposes or make her have an "accident" to get her out of the way if she was ever given to the Nori'fu to train, this may have also been part of the BerserkButton mentioned above.
** She tries it [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=10532 again]] in Chapter 47, suggesting giving Ariel to the Sharen as a hostage part of their peace agreement, and it's not hard to infer she wouldn't be all that upset if something happened to her while in their care.
* MaliciousSlander: Almost constantly regarding Ariel to Quain'tana, and several other high-ranking members of the Sargh command. Quain wisely refuses to rise to the bait, and calls upon her own sources to verify the truth of Suu'be's accusations. What's worse is that Suu'be does not hesitate to do this ''to Ariel's face'' going into full blown UnstoppableRage when Ariel brought Wa'fay before her to officially hire them to investigate a rogue Ja'al scientist. The only reason Suu'be stopped and decided to hear Wa'fay's request was because Faen was nearby and put a great deal of empathic "influence" on her. It is not known if she spreads her "accusations" among her kin as well, [[FridgeBrilliance although that would certainly explain Riviel's attitude.]]
* NeckSnap: Quain was in too much of a hurry to kill her to drag it out, so with both hand around her throat, she squeezes hard enough to break Su'ube's spine.
* TheResenter: To Quain'tana, and to Ariel because she believes Ariel stole Koil'dorath's right as the heir, and because she thinks Quain'tana has gotten soft as a Val. This is visually demonstrated by how scuffed [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5040 Suu'be's armor]] is when compared to Quain's.
%%* SarcasmMode: [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5038 It's hard not to read this into her words here]].
* TheStarscream: For a long time just implied, with WordOfGod stating she'd try to take over if she thought she could get away with it, and Quain'tana knows this but also realizes that it's too dangerous to get rid of Suu'be. Finally reaches a head in Chapter 50 where she does try and gets a NeckSnap for her trouble.
* TheyJustDontGetIt: After being one of Quain'tana's commanders for a long time, she should have seen that Quain respects those who stand up to her, right or wrong, even if they have no chance of winning, and ''loathes'' those who only submit to her face but badmouth her behind her back, and then try to grovel when they get caught. Yet, that's ''precisely'' what she does when Quain publicly asks for specifics in regards to Su'ube's plans for the clan when she's gone, [[TooDumbToLive after Su'ube loudly made it quite clear that she intends to usurp the clan because she believes neither Quain nor her chosen heir are fit to rule.]]
* TooDumbToLive: Combined with SelectiveObliviousness. She loudly and angrily calls Ariel both stupid and ''spoiled'' to her face and in front of many witnesses, decrying Quain's rule of the clan and choice of heir, berating Koil'dorath for not beating Ariel down and seizing the clan by force while Quain is nearby and suffering from incredible pain due to her festering facial wound, knowing full well Quain is not likely to tolerate that on a good day, and Quain is clearly ''not'' having a good day. For bonus points, when Ariel and Koil are trying to talk Quain down, Su'ube has to go and slap Quain in the face with her armored hand, and on the part that's still raw and bleeding from the "treatment" Quain just got. Even with a healer, Su'be's likely to be wearing a permanent reminder of her folly, for all to see, and that's assuming she pulls through.
* VicariouslyAmbitious: Sees her daughter as a backdoor to leading the Sarghress without apparent concern for Koil's own feelings on the matter. The irony is that the main reason Koil isn't the heir any longer is ''because'' of her, otherwise Quain would have no problem with the idea of Koil taking over.-
* VirtueIsWeakness: More than anything else, she ''loathes'' the fact that Quain has mellowed, especially after Ariel continuously proves herself more than worthy of being the clan heir. She does not hesitate to slander Ariel right to Quain's face at every opportunity.

!! Mandroga Nori'fu Sarghress
Suu'be's mate and Koil'dorath's father. First appears (chronologically) in the Machike Conquest storyline, and then [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=4498 in Chapter 5]].

%%* TheBeastmaster: During the conquest of Machike he was [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=124 quite proud]] of one of his beasts.
%%* TheBigGuy
%%* BraidsOfBarbarism
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Formerly had both orange hair and eyes, but now has mainly white hair with some red streaks.
* DiggingYourselfDeeper: Quite literally. Rather than order the Dragon-slayers to get out of the way of a rightfully rampaging "Quainzilla," he orders the troops to use their Earth Foci to subdue Quain by trapping her in stone. This only serves to piss off Quain even more, and convince her that the whole Nori'fu house has turned on her. [[spoiler: Nearly leading to an OffWithHisHead moment for poor Mandroga.]]
* DirtyCoward: He's ''even worse'' than Su'ube. He tries to sneak up on a clearly exhausted Ariel, after he sent several mooks at her, the last of which was so careless with fire foci that ''the val haters were cheering for Ariel'' and swings a sword down on her from behind. When she blocks the sword and challenges him, personally, he cries out for aid until the rest of the clan shout at him to fight his own battles.
* DualWielding: Fights with a pair of war rods.
%%* FacialMarkings
* GroinAttack: On the wrong end when Ariel's had enough and starts to fight back.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: He gets beat down by his own war-rod that he's so damn proud of. What's worse, is that he saw it coming, [[spoiler: as Ariel did the exact same thing to Miir'kin with a mace as a child, and he was in attendance at the time to see it.]]
* JustToyingWithThem: He takes his sweet time smacking Ariel around and grandstanding, trying to make himself look bigger and meaner than he actually is. This turns around to bite him when Ariel spots an opening and reminds him how it feels to be on the receiving end of a beatdown.
* KarmicDeath: Quain'tana named Ariel her heir after having her bludgeon Mir'kiin to death, Mandroga was one of the witnesses to this, sworn to ensure that all knew of Quain'tana's wishes and that they would be carried out. [[spoiler:Years later, after fully renouncing Quain'tana's lineage and attempting to kill Ariel as a false leader to the clan, he ends up being killed by Ariel in excatly the same fashion as the execution in which she was named the true successor.]]
* NeverMyFault: He blames Quain's legacy for "taking everything he loves away from him" [[spoiler: after telling Ariel that he killed Koil'dorath with his own two hands.]]
* ServileSnarker: He must be on pretty good terms to get away with calling Quain'tana [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=4503 ruthless]] to her face, but when he [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=4663 crosses the line]] she [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=4664 puts him in his place]] very firmly.
* SkewedPriorities: Put far, far more effort on "erasing the shame of the Sarghress Vals" in a hunt, endurance tournament, and execution than the fact that the Sarg territory can't procure enough food to last ''a single day.'' [[spoiler: The only reason the Sarg clan held on as long as it did is that Sang stole supplies from every merchant, commoner, or other clan she came across, and called it "foraging."]]
%%* WeAreStrugglingTogether: Which Ariel calls him out on the moment she gets the upper hand.
%%* WhatWereYouThinking: Which Kormaril openly lampshades in the wake of his SkewedPriorities above.

!! Koil'dorath Nori'fu Val'Sarghress
Suu'be and Mandroga's daughter, Koil'dorath leads the Sarghress Heavy Infantry and was, until Ariel was officially recognized, Quain'tana's heir after Laele'aell's death.

%%* TheBigGuy
* BraidsOfBarbarism: Pre-timeskip, her hair was tied up in a long, single braid. After the timeskip, she seems to have [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=11237 cut it short]].
%%* BrawnHilda
* ConflictingLoyalty: Subverted, when she finds out that Ariel's the new heir [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5041 she doesn't care]]. It's not certain just how much of her mother's schemes she's aware of either or how she'd react if she is.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Like her mother she has orange hair and eyes, but her hair also has [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5040 some red streaks in it]], perhaps to show that despite who her mother is [[FridgeBrilliance she's still loyal to Quain'tana at heart]].
* FightingFromTheInside: [[spoiler:Snadhya'rune kills her and turns her into a summon, but rather than obeying like most summons, she keeps trying to strangle Snadhya'rune, much to Snadhya'rune's amusement.]]
* InadequateInheritor: Not because of anything she did herself, but she came with "[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7673 too much Suu'be attached]]".
* KilledOffscreen: [[spoiler:She reluctantly took management of the Chelian branch of the Sarghress clan after Quain'tana and her mother made a MutualKill against one another, putting the clan into disorder. After Sang takes over the clan in a coup and tries to kill Kel'noz and Ariel, Kel'noz asks what she did to Koil, and Sang answers that she's dead. Koil'dorath is later seen as a summon in Snadhya'rune's possession and her corpse is seen in a prison belonging to Snadhya'rune's faction of the Imperial Guards, though all the Sarghress themselves know is that she mysteriously vanished one day.]]
* LawfulStupid: The most charitable interpretation of her latest actions is this. She comes upon Riviel, and at least 5 others, armed, attacking Ariel, '''unarmed''', trying to beat her down, by their own admission, for shits and giggles. She also sees and hears Ariel, ''loudly'' and ''repeatedly'' crying out that she doesn't want to fight, and doesn't see Riviel as an enemy. So how does she decide to resolve the situation? [[spoiler: She locks up both Ariel and her attackers, and to twist the knife a bit further, puts Riviel and Ariel in the same cell, unattended.]]
%%* PlayingWithFire: [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=138 seen here]].
* ReluctantRuler: She is one of the major candidates in the Sarghress line of succession and is one of its most respected leaders, but she doesn't really want it. Her mother on the other hand, has other ideas.
* ReplacementSibling: Quain'tana made her the heir after Laele's death to ensure someone would be there if she fell in battle.
%%* TheStoic
* ThickerThanWater: Even though Ariel was the first to call out to Quain regarding the beating, Koil was the most vocal in trying to get her to stop, precisely because Su'ube is her birthmother. [[UngratefulBitch Not that Su'ube cares.]]
* YouAreTooLate: She supposedly shows up just ''after'' Su'ube's been killed by Quain. This is suspicious because Koil has been tracking Quain since before the Tions did, and the Tions, with Ariel in tow, arrive first.

!! Awdri Nori'fu Sarghress*[[note]]Created by Dalvyserran[[/note]]
A member of Koil'dorath's squad, serving during the height of the District War. He is Ulbaga's younger brother. Appears in Chapter 47.

%%* BadassCape
%%* BraidsOfBarbarism
* KillItWithFire: He voices a half-hearted desire to do this to the entire Vloz'ress district, owing as much to the smell as pragmatic reasons.
* NewMeat: He's quite derisive of the majority of newer Sarghress recruits. This is actually rather justified, as many of them are not so much soldiers as scared and desperate refugees.
* OnlySaneMan: While his squadmates are punished, he shoots a grumpy look at his relative's back.
* SiblingYinYang: Much more responsible than his older brother.

!! Riviel Nori'fu Sarghress*[[note]]Created by Reefireparrot[[/note]]
A boisterous Sarghress soldier loyal to Suu'be, serving in the aftermath of the Puppeteer Incident. Appears in Chapter 50. Her concept art can be found [[http://www.drowtales.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Riviel1.png here]].

* CombatPragmatist: In her sparring duel with Ariel, she strikes both before the match begins and at her unarmored head. Koil promptly calls her out on the latter. She later attempts to grab Ariel ByTheHair, which proves to be a mistake as Ariel promptly throws her using it.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Orange hair and eyes.
%%* BoisterousBruiser
* ByTheHair: Grabs Ariel's hair during their fight, only to find out why [[PrehensileHair this is a bad idea]] almost immediately.
* FacialMarkings: Has the cheek scarification common to the Nori'fu house.
* FeelingOppressedByTheirExistence: Hates Ariel beyond all reason, not because of anything Ariel's done, or failed to do, but by the sheer fact that Ariel exists, assuming Ariel is an EntitledBastard by sole virtue of her Val title.
* GoodOldFisticuffs: Sees no need for a weapon, instead opting to simply punch things.
* HeelFaceTurn: Amazingly, Ariel's little speech has been far more effective than anyone realized, and Riviel comes to her aid against an assassin to save her life.
* HeelRealization: After a bit of a KirkSummation from Ariel while they're both locked up in the same cell, Riviel comes to understand that her grudge against Ariel is completely without merit, and she's been an idiot. [[spoiler: Unfortunately, this is just before an assassin walks right up to the bars and shoots Ariel in the face with a dart.]]
* HotBlooded: Introspection is not her strong suit. Passionate declarations and actions, however...
* {{Hypocrite}}: Calls out Ariel for having a "pink mouth" while clearly having one of her own.*[[note]] In the supplemental notes, too much cannibalism results in turning a drow's tongue purple, so a pink mouth means that the drow in question had access to plenty of alternate forms of sustenance.[[/note]]
* KickThemWhileTheyreDown: She kicks Ariel in the jaw when the latter tries to defend herself against a gang of thugs, by taking their weapons, and parrying Riviel's halberd.
* LadyLooksLikeADude: The forumites often refer to her as "he" despite the offical character desctription marking her as a female. Her body-type and mannerisms don't help.
* MaliciousSlander: Most of her issues can be summed up as "has spent way too much time taking everything Suu'be says seriously". [[spoiler:She's only just started the process of questioning some of what she's just accepted as being true with no actual backing proof.]]
* MoralMyopia: She's constantly ranting about how Chel doesn't need nobles, but bieng a high ranking member of House Nori'fu, she is one. Worse, after tackling Ariel, and having a gang of thugs with her deliver a completely unprovoked NoHoldsBarredBeatdown, and ''kicking'' her in the jaw while she's defending herself. Riviel has the gall to tell Ariel not to give her any more trouble.
* NeverMyFault: She absolutely refuses to vocally admit when she's in the wrong (although her body language does occasionally point to her at least recognizing it internally). Her response to Dax'xia mentioning that someone "screwed up", forcing her to get directly involved? "I didn't screw up! I'm locked in here with her!" Her response to Ariel complaining that the pain from the ''completely unprovoked'' beating is making it hard to move? "Quit whining! You deserved it!"
* OhCrap: She certainly has the look after a superior officer, most likely Koil'dorath, the most loyal of Quain's upper echelon, and a fellow Nori'fu, tells her to stop ''with war golems at the ready right over Riviel.'' It happens again when she sees the Tions house at the top of the stairs in the prison. Fortunately for her, she had saved Ariel's life a few, in-universe, minutes ago.
* TheResenter: The very first "grievance" she lists against Ariel is that Riviel has had to ''work'' for her position while she believes that Ariel was simply ''given'' hers. Of course, had Riviel done even the tiniest bit of recon on Ariel, she'd realize Ariel's position is ''far'' from privileged.
* SlobsVersusSnobs: A clear example. She sees most Vals as pampered cowards, and is proud of her commoner heritage and brute strength.
* SoreLoser: After being handily trounced in the sparring match, and offered a hand up by Ariel, she turns and spits on the ground in disgust.
* StupidEvil: She lets her irrational hatred of Ariel go to her head, just like Su'ube. After tackling Ariel, and being informed that someone's going out and trying to purge Quain's bloodline, making Quain think the Nori'fu house are all traitors, she has the group of thugs with her beat up on Ariel while loudly boasting how she's glad someone's trying to kill Quain's helpless grandchildren in their beds. And to add more idiocy to the pile, she claims [[ThatManIsDead "Quain died when whe made peace with the Sharen"]] while letting Ariel get up on her knees and letting her hair flow freely.
* TooDumbToLive: The stupid evil entry above? She does that ''in public'' and while WordOfGod says there weren't near enough panels or time in the already overly long chapter to show everyone's reactions, the moment she and her gang of ne'erdowells start tearing up the place with their standard issue earth-foci, it brings enough attetion to Ariel's plight that the nearby ''war golems'' are brought to bear on Riviel.
* UnknownRival: She hates Ariel. Ariel, on the other hand, has no idea who she is.

!! Ulbaga Nori'fu Sarghress*[[note]]Created by Sarogo[[/note]]
An androgynous member of the Fallen Legion and Awdri's older brother. Loyal to Suu'be, he is first seen serving in the aftermath of the Puppeteer incident. He is set to appear in Chapter 50. 238* BlowYouAway: Has an air affinity.
%%* DudeLooksLikeALady: This seems at least partially intentional.
%%* InTheHood: Part of his uniform.

%%* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking
* BreadEggsMilkSquick: In the podcast about the dev'esses, the author describes her house like this.
-->She is the Commander of the Highland Raiders, and her house is composed of her own family but also a lot of other troops that come within her groups to visit strange lands and meet strange people and kill them.
* FashionableAsymmetry: Half of her hair is dyed black while the other is white, additionally, one of her eyes is glass and pure green.
%%* [[HonoraryUncle Honorary Aunt]]
* NumberTwo: In one of his podcasts, the creator of the comic states that the Yurunhiir house has a special function within the clan; namely that should something happen to the main Sarghress branch, the Yurunhiir would be the ones to rally the survivors into a new clan.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: She even agrees to let [[spoiler:[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=6689 Vaelia join the Highland Raiders]]]]. She also disapproves of how Quain'tana secured her heirs, warns Ariel to stay away from politics, and invites her to join the Raiders in the event she gets burned by them.

!! Valo Varren Yurun'hiir Sarghress*
A male Highland Raider and Quill'yate's grandson.

!! Itan'sha Mae'yukir Sarghress

A former Kyorl'solenurn, she is now the Dev'ess of the Maeyukir House in the Sarghress Clan. She was a former Kyorl who was branded a heretic, tortured and banished. She makes her first appearance in Chapter 8 but has had little screentime since.

* [[TheBigGuy The Big Girl]]: Shown to be rather tall for a drowussu female ([[note]]drowussu females tend to be shorter than the males, an inversion of the norm with drowolath[[/note]]) at least in comparison with Lulianne. [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive//20080802c08p031.jpg Best seen in this panel]] where she seems to stand at level with Suu'be.
* EyeScream: The reason her eyes look the way they do is because the Kyorl said she didn't need them since she'd lost her way from the Goddess.
* FacialMarkings: On her forehead there's a mark that looks like [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5037 a line with other, smaller horizontal lines through it]] representing how the Kyorl thought that her third eye had been closed to the Goddess, and if Abyte is any indication than it was probably [[{{Squick}} carved in with a knife]]. While Kyo'nne was with the Kyorl she had a [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=372 similar mark]], but hers was with paint.
* TheHeretic: At some point she came into conflict with the mainline Kyorls, and as a result was tortured and exiled.
* KnightTemplar: Possibly, judging by how quick she is to jump to conclusions about Quain'tana's new heir, but it is too early to tell.
* MilkyWhiteEyes: WordOfGod is she can still sort of see, but not well, and mainly sees blurs of color.
* NobleFugitive: After the Kyorl declared her a heretic she ran away to the Sarghress, and thus thinks little of the Kyorl and their ideals. Most other members of the Mae'yukir are either refugees from the Kyorl or survivors of the Dutan'vir.
* TheSkeptic: Taking [[TheResenter Suu'be's]] comments at face value Itan'sha appears to be this in comparison. When Ariel is declared as the new heir, she immediately supposes the Jaal'darya must have had something to do with it; knowing that Quain'tana is barren.
* SpiderSense: She [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=10532 picks up]] the release of the demons at the Vloz'ress fortress before the sniper on the roof does, probably due to her Kyorl training.
* TokenMinority: She's the only drowussu dev'ess seen thus far.

!!Lulianne Mae'yukir Sarghress
One of Mel'arnach's guards, Lulianne is a former Dutan'vir. As of chapter 25 [[spoiler:is possessed by Khaless, and chapter 44 confirms that Lulianne is only in control of her own body part of the time. 288* CompressedHair: Her series of braids actually [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1375 hides very long hair]].
* {{Determinator}}: Lulianne's willpower proved to be so strong that [[spoiler:Khaless only has control of their shared body part of the time, and she even refers to Lulianne as being difficult to wrest control from]].
* DoubleAgent: In true drow fashion, Lulianne is spying on Mel and reporting to Quain'tana, but at the same time has her own agenda when it comes to bringing back her old clan [[spoiler:and now, thanks to being possessed by Khaless, is also a spy for Snadhya'rune too, meaning that in reality she's more like a DoubleReverseQuadrupleAgent, with even Lulianne herself not knowing about her status as Snadhya's mole]].
* EarlyBirdCameo: Her first appearance is in [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=110 the new chapter 1]], but her first chronological appearance happens in chapter 8.
* EnemyWithin: [[spoiler:Lulianne's personality starts asserting itself when the fallen leader of her clan, Mikilu, appears, and as a result has to deal with this trope. Khaless attempts to take back control and stab Mikilu, while a very confused Lulianne has to hold her own right hand back]].

* FightingFromTheInside: [[spoiler:When Khaless succeeds in taking back control and tries to kill Mikilu, Lulianne manages to exert enough willpower to cry out Mikilu's name to warn her, and when Snadhya tries to force Khaless to make her kill Mikilu Lu manages to turn her sword on ''herself'' rather than kill her clanmate]].
* GrandTheftMe: [[spoiler:Khaless is forced to steal her body, and WordOfGod confirmed that [[http://www.drowtales.com/wordpress/?p=3760 Khaless' takeover was complete]]. Chapter 44 however raises some doubt about this when even after being told to drop the act Khaless/Lulianne keeps it up. Snad initially assumes that Khaless is trolling her, but Khaless reveals that when Lulianne's pride is threatened, she becomes especially hard to keep under control. Nevertheless, Lulianne does not seem to be completely conscious of what has happened to her]].
* HairColorDissonance: Her original hair color ([[note]]see RetCon further down this entry[[/note]]) has been separately described as both pink and brown by different people, while it's much more obviously a pink in her later design.
* INeverSaidItWasPoison: Mel is surprised to see that Lulianne knows the location of a lift in a place she should never have been before. Lulianne claims that it was just an educated guess. [[spoiler:In actuality, it is because she is possessed and influenced by Khaless, who happened to make a slip]].
* InfoDump: Exists pretty much to give characters someone to give these to, [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=504 which is even lampshaded in story]].
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:She commits suicide rather than be forced to kill her former clanmate]].

* MyNameIsInigoMontoya: Does this in chapter 46 [[spoiler:immediately before stabbing herself in the stomach as a final declaration of her own identity]].
* NobleFugitive: From the Dutan'vir, and after the timeskip [[spoiler:was thrown out of the Sarghress, allegedly for letting Mel escape, though this may just be a cover]].
%%* NonhumanHumanoidHybrid: By her own words, fourth generation half blood.
* OutOfCharacterMoment: Post-timeskip, Lulianne gets several moments that just do not jive with her previous characterization, like [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=9461 asking Mel if they should take a detour so they can spit in Quain'tana's direction]] and wishing that [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=9504 both the Sarghress and Sharen will drown in a sea of blood]], not to mention how she's gone from very modest armor to a {{Stripperiffic}} outfit. [[spoiler:Justified since this is probably Khaless's personality shining through rather than the real Lulianne]].
* ThePlotReaper: [[spoiler:After hearing the truth from Sha'sana, there was pretty much no way that she'd survive, and indeed Khaless' takeover ensures that she won't be telling anyone about what she found out. 310* {{Pride}}: As a former Dutan'vir, despite her clan's fallen status. This is also what [[spoiler:has kept her at least partially in control of her own body, since Khaless says that Lulianne is particularly hard to subdue when her pride is threatened]].
%%* {{Protectorate}}: Seems to latch onto Mel pretty quickly and consider her this.
* RetCon: A minor one, mainly [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=445 her hair was originally a much darker pink]], while her appearance in the new chapter 1 has her with the much lighter hair seen in subsequent chapters.

* {{Seppuku}}: [[spoiler:stabs herself in the stomach rather than be forced by Khaless and Snadhya'rune to kill Mikilu]].
* SpannerInTheWorks: [[spoiler:Khaless's willpower is much stronger than hers, and what is left of Lulianne does not even seem to be entirely self-aware any more. 316* TakingYouWithMe: Says this to [[spoiler:Khaless]], but [[spoiler:Lu survives, albeit possessed by Khaless]].
** Also possibly what she was trying to do [[spoiler:when she stabs her own stomach rather than kill Mikilu]].
* TomatoInTheMirror: [[spoiler:After Khaless consumes her, Lulianne is reduced to the 2nd strongest personality in her own body. Khaless often acts through her, using Lulianne's personality as a mask, with the Lulianne personality being completely unaware of her possession. But it isn't until she reunites with Mikilu and hears Snad gloat about the impending doom of her fallen clan that she starts to realize that something is wrong with her]].

* AssShove: She humorously refers to having "a stick up my ass the length of Chel" before she went to the Mae'yukir.
* {{Bifauxnen}}: Her armor, short hair, and general build led to a lot of ViewerGenderConfusion before it was clarified in her first appearance where she [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7739 refers to]] formerly being a Kyorl Warden, an all female rank, but some were still confused.
* BreakTheCutie: During the Nidraa'chal War, where she was tainted, and the Warden who was responsible [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7790 didn't even apologize]] and carved the heretic mark into her forehead.
* TheEmpath: Though in her own words [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7783 her empathy is pretty weak]] and not strong enough for her to have gotten training as an Inquisitor.
* FacialMarkings: Like Itan'sha, her forehead bears a heretic mark, which was forcibly [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7790 carved into her forehead]] by the very same warden who was responsible for her getting tainted in the first place.
* MythologyGag: The little cartoon wolf holding a letter in its mouth on her satchel was previously on the site's front page as the donation button until it was redesigned.
* PluckyGirl: And how! Just read BreakTheCutie above and marvel at how she's managed to keep a positive attitude.
* SexyMentor: To [[spoiler:Tir'ade]] given how blatantly she flirts with him.
* TraumaticHaircut: After she was imprisoned for becoming tainted she was shaved bald, and she's kept her hair short in the Sarghress. Like in real life having her head shaved was likely for both the humiliation/dehumanizing factor and to control things like lice in prison.

%%* EyeScream: Inflicts this on prisoners, possibly as a form of RevengeByProxy.
* FailedASpotCheck: The only member of her squad that doesn't react to the sight of Kiel's giant turtle-summon. For obvious reasons.
* HandicappedBadass: Still a capable member of Koil'doroth's squad, despite her lack of sight.
* MutilationInterrogation: Inflicts this upon [[spoiler:Nir'naya]] during Chapter 50.
* ProphetEyes: Of the mundane cataracts variety.
* PerpetualSmiler: Even while distributing dismembered corpses of civilians to the wolves.
