The main protagonist. [[DitzyGenius A scientist whose inventions have a habit of not working as intended]]. Wanting to help his town of Swallow Falls, he invents a machine that can convert water into food and manages to launch it into the air. It seems to work fine at first but it doesn't take long for things to [[GoneHorriblyWrong go south]] and he has to [[MustMakeAmends fix his mistake]].
----
* AcquiredSituationalNarcissism: A bit in the first movie after his food machine brings fame to Swallow Falls. He thankfully snaps out of it.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Was an outcast as a child and labeled as something of the town loony at the beginning of the first movie.
* AllThereInTheScript: According to the first movie's script, he was 8 years-old at the beginning of the film, and the main events take place 15 years after, placing him at 23 years-old.
* BadassBookworm: He is even able to ''weaponize'' his crazy inventions.
* BirdsOfAFeather: Flint is a couple with the equally dorky, science loving Sam who was also bullied due to her love of science.
* BrainyBrunette: He has spiky, black hair and is a MadScientist.
* BunglingInventor: Flint's inventions cause a lot of mayhem. But, where credit is due, the things he invents ''do'' work.
* ButtMonkey: Mostly in the first movie, he gets picked on a lot.
* CallingYourAttacks: Or more like your actions.
* ChildProdigy: A former one. He was able to create a spray can that would be able to create laceless shoes.
* DidNotThinkThisThrough: Some of his inventions fail because of this. For example, his spray-on shoes work perfectly, except that he couldn't figure out a way to get them off.
* DitzyGenius: He's a brilliant and talented inventor, but his inventions have a habit of not working.
* EinsteinHair: The natural unruly hair befitting of a scientist like him.
* {{Expy}}: He's very much like a human version of Flik from ''WesternAnimation/ABugsLife.'' Both are enthusiastic scientists and BunglingInventor[=s=] who are seen as crazy by the rest of their community, become more popular than they ever dreamed when their plan goes right, [[spoiler:end up causing a disaster and nearly cross the DespairEventHorizon. After being jolted out of it by a loved one, they go back to fix it with the help of their LoveInterest]]. Even their names sound similar.
* FatalFlaw: Flint may be a genius inventor but he is naive and constantly seeks the approval of others. This flaw is understandable as he was always treated like a loser when he was a kid and his efforts were always looked down on by his dad.
* {{Foil}}: To Chester V. Both are inventors who developed a love of science from a young age, bullied for their inability to fit in, and who went on to create great inventions related to food. This is where the similarities end however, as Flint's ultimate desire is to use his inventions for the betterment of his community and his love of science in spite of their mistreatment of him, and [[AcquiredSituationalNarcissism while prone to moments of selfishness]] and tendency for his inventions to have variable success rates, he ultimately will ''never'' abandon the loved ones who have helped him get to where he is today. [[spoiler: By contrast, Chester V ultimately allowed his past misery to form a deep disdain for personal relationships, especially towards those he not only views as getting in the way of science, but also towards people he views as cruel towards geeks like himself, [[ReformedBully even if they've changed for the better.]] As such, he surrounds himself entirely with holograms as his only trusted allies, with any living beings either subordinates or lackies who are completely disposable and treated with nothing but callous disregard. Despite being the one who inspired scientists like Lockwood and being capable of inventing scientific marvels, he is also not above stealing other people's ideas and creations for his own gain.]]
* {{Flanderization}}: The TV series ramps up his obsession with making inventions and being utterly oblivious to common approaches.
* GadgeteerGenius: Despite being a BunglingInventor, but to his credit the things he invents ''do'' work.
* GeekyTurnOn: He may be considered sapio-sexual (or sapio-romantic) as he immediately falls for Sam when he sees her knowledge of science and not because of her looks.
* AGodIAmNot: While he realizes he's the creator of the food animals by extension of the FLDSMDFR, he tells them he's doesn't consider himself a God, but is more than willing to be their friend.
* HairReboot: Even in the short span of time between the Swallow Falls residents' evacuation to San Franjose, his hair is back to it's long-ish and untamed look after [[spoiler:most of it is singed off by the FLDSMSDFR's explosion]].
* HairstyleInertia: Flint has the same MessyHair he had from his youth.
* HeroicBSOD: In the first movie, it's his food machine going haywire and nearly destroying the world and him having no idea how to fix it. In the second, it's finding out [[spoiler: his [[BrokenPedestal childhood hero is evil]] and had tried to kill him]].
* HeroicSacrifice: Attempted in the first movie but his Rat Birds manage to save him.
* IdiotBall: He's an inventor and very much capable of creating useful and successful experiments, but when Chester presents him with the BS-USB, he suddenly forgets that USB actually means "Universal Serial Bus" for the sake of the plot, allowing him to [[spoiler:fall into Chester's more devious goals much easier.]]
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: A wish that gets granted in the first movie.
* InSeriesNickname: He's sometimes called "Skipper" by his dad.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Whenever something significantly important happens to him, he tends to get this way.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Downplayed with the "jerk" part. Flint's selfish tendencies throughout both movies indirectly led to the climax that could've been avoided. But, on both occasions he learned his lesson, owned up, and fixed his mistakes. Other than that he is a NiceGuy.
* KindheartedSimpleton: Downplayed. He's smart and can create a weather machine that rains food but he also can often act socially inept and gullible to destructive degrees. Regardless, he always means well. This is played up in the tv series.
* LabcoatOfScienceAndMedicine: No matter the circumstance, Flint is always seen in his white labcoat. Doubles as a TragicKeepsake as it was a gift from his mother.
* LetsGetDangerous: He may be a bumbling scientist but when the chips are down, he's not one to shy away from action.
* MadScientist: A more benevolent example.
* ManlyManAndSensitiveGuy: The dorky and meek Sensitive Guy to Earl's assertive and blunt Manly Man.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: The less active Feminine Boy to Sam's more action-y Masculine Girl.
* MessyHair: He has wild hair that he has to struggle to get to lie down flat.
* MommasBoy: His mother has been dead for a decade, but he was a lot closer to her than his father. His bond with his dad does grow throughout the film.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Due to his ignorance about the food getting bigger, the food spirals out of control and creates a Spaghetti Twister, leading him to almost give up and throw himself away.
* OfficialCouple: With Sam.
* ParentalIssues: While Flint and his father Tim do love each other, it is clear in the first film that his more difficult relationship is with him. This is likely due to Tim being unsure how to express his feelings which makes him come across as distant and uncaring. This does make Flint spend a lot of the first film wanting his dad to be proud of him for his inventing.
* PlatonicLifePartners: With Sam in the show despite a bit of [[ShipTease teasing]] from the writers.
* ScienceHero: Uses his knowledge over science to save the town.
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: Often does it for a moment.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Flint looks remarkably like his mother. The only thing he inherited his from his father was his nose size, with the shape being like his mother's.
* SpikyHair: Flint has unruly, spiky brown hair. It just adds to his mad scientist appeal.
* TragicKeepsake: His LabcoatOfScienceAndMedicine was a gift from his mother who passed away by the time he became an adult.
* WellDoneSonGuy: He just wants his dad to acknowledge him.

Flint's helper monkey and lab assistant that can partially speak thanks to a modified speak-and-spell that transmits his thoughts.
----
* AndShowItToYou: Parodied when he fights the living gummy bears.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He acts pretty much like any normal monkey and doesn't seem too bright. But pit him against gummy related opponents and watch him go.
* KidAppealCharacter: Justified since he's a monkey but he's wild and childlike. Loves to cause trouble and provides comic relief.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Justified for a wild animal let alone a monkey. He loves to wreck things and rip off mustaches for no reason. This is taken up to 11 in the sequel, where he destroys a cake, steals every food he sees, humiliates Flint at the ceremony, and attacks him after suggesting to go through the grocery deliverator rather than the boat. However, he still helps Flint out even though he fails and is loyal to him. He also went out of his way to protect Manny from the gummy bears.
* MischiefMakingMonkey: Downplayed, he can be quite rowdy and obnoxious on occasion but isn’t downright mischievous.
* NonHumanSidekick: Steve is Flint's helper monkey.
* OnlyFriend: To Flint, until the first movie's end. This is not the case in the show however as Sam is Flint's best friend as well.
%%* PluckyComicRelief
* PokemonSpeak: Most of Steve's initial dialogue is him saying his name. On the other hand, you could apply this trope to whenever he calls Barb a monkey since he himself is one.
* SeeminglyProfoundFool: He has a tendency to comment on random stimuli in a way that seems to be a coherent response to whatever the others are talking about. Earl starts to consider the possibility that this trope might be in effect during the second film, but he gets distracted before he can explore the thought significantly.
* SillySimian: Steve is a monkey and is one of the main sources of comic relief. Later on, he also proves to be capable in combat.
* SweetTooth: He ''adores'' gummy bears. He's not allowed to have them because he starts going into a massive rampage when he eats them.
* TalkingAnimal: Somewhat, it's with the help of a device and he can't form sentences.
* ToiletHumor:
** The err... "brown crayon" marks.
** And before that, "chocolate ice cream snowballs."
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Gummi Bears. Flint has to wean him off them since they drive him into a frenzy.
%%* UndyingLoyalty: To Flint.

The meteorologist that comes to Swallowfalls to cover the town's revival plans but winds up staying after seeing Flint's machine. Slowly but surely the two begin bond.
----
* ActionGirl: Sam is a lot more action-y than Flint.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Like Flint, she was an outcast because of her love of science. So she changed to her appearance to fit in better. It's somewhat hinted that's how she got the meteorologist job in the first place.
* AlliterativeName: '''S'''amantha "'''S'''am" '''S'''parks.
* BespectacledCutie: After she regains her glasses. In the show, she still wears them.
* BeYourself: What Flint ultimately teaches her.
* BirdsOfAFeather: Sam is a couple with the equally dorky, science loving Flint who was also bullied due to his love of science.
* BlindWithoutEm: Partially at least. Everything looks really blurry, and it makes people look more handsome than they really are.
* CharacterDevelopment: Thanks to Flint's influence, Sam begins to embrace her love for science and become comfortable in her real style (glasses and a ponytail). She also becomes more assertive whenever she feels someone is doing something wrong.
* DumbBlonde: Subverted heavily. She knows so much about the weather and science, but she was picked on ''because'' of that intelligence.
* EndearinglyDorky: Flint, who is extremely nerdy himself, started falling for Sam when she revealed her nerdy side, i.e. by wearing her glasses and admitting her love of science. She had been hiding that side of herself to help her career as a TV weather person.
* {{Flanderization}}: In the TV series, now she has a knack for inventions, though her change is much less pronounced as the rest of the cast.
* GenkiGirl: Sam could get a little emotionally hyperactive at times, but quickly turns meek and quiet when accidentally saying something smart, however she later overcame this after encouragement from Flint.
* TheGlassesGotToGo: Inverted; she actually puts them back on again.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: The blond Sam is quite affable, kind, and heroic.
* HartmanHips: Has some curvy hips.
* LettingHerHairDown: Inverted; she starts putting her hair up in a TomboyishPonytail.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: The more action-y Masculine Girl to Flint's less active Feminine Boy.
* ModestyShorts: she wears a pair of black spats under her miniskirt in high school
* MoralityChain: As of the sequel, she is this to Flint when his selfishness gets the best of him.
* MotorMouth: Sam can sometimes talk a lot, especially when she gets nervous and/or excited, as she talked a lot when she was about to be the weather reporter in Swallow Falls.
* NerdsAreSexy: Flint finds her attractive for her intelligence and then her looks but he does find her more attractive when she is her true nerdy look.
* NiceGirl: A sweet, kind-hearted, dorky, and fun woman.
* OfficialCouple: With Flint.
* PlatonicLifePartners: With Flint in the show despite a bit of [[ShipTease teasing]] from the writers.
* PlotAllergy: Peanuts. She swells like a balloon after getting scratched by a shard of peanut brittle.
* {{Retcon}}: {{Subverted|Trope}}. TV show depicts Flint as Sam as meeting in high school, averted with a HandWave that he'll invent a memory eraser when she moves away.
* RhetoricalQuestionBlunder: In the sequel, she discovers that Flint and Chester designed "wedgie-proof" underwear at the age of three and six and offers up a rhetorical question. They answer literally.
-->'''Sam:''' You guys have been wearing the same underwear since you were kids?\
'''Flint & Chester:''' ''({{Beat}})'' Yes!
* {{Science Hero}}ine: She knows just as much science-y stuff as Flint, but she's the most knowledgeable in meteorology.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Sam prepared herself to kiss [[ScienceHero Flint]] when he told her that she should just be herself and that her original look (glasses and ponytail) is more beautiful than the look she put on to fit in with everyone else.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: Sam knows ''everything'' about meteorology. Also, until convinced to start wearing her glasses again, she tried hiding her knowledge.
* SmurfettePrinciple: Sam is the only female in the main cast. Averted in the sequel where Barb is included as a main character.
* TomboyishPonytail: Sports one when she starts to be more comfortable with wearing her glasses.

Flint's father and local sardine fisherman. Cares for his son but can't seem to understand his inventions.
----
* BigOlUnibrow: Has a massive unibrow that covers his eyes though they'll open fully when he's surprised.
* ButtMonkey: Flint's inventions tend to influence him in many negative ways.
* CantSpitItOut: He comes off as callous to Flint's career choice as well as the success his food machine brings. But he really does love his son and is proud of what he does, just has a hard time of showing it (least until Sam puts Steve's mind reader device on him).
* CharacterCatchphrase: He has more often than not yelled "FLIIIIINT!!" when acting as the ButtMonkey to his inventions.
* CharacterExaggeration: He is the same in the TV series, but he's more of a ButtMonkey when his son makes him try his inventions.
* GuineaPigFamily: He's always the unlucky participant of Flint's inventions.
* HappilyMarried: While his marriage with Fran wasn't shown a lot, it's clear that they had a close one.
* HiddenEyes: His bushy eyebrows completely cover his eyes most of the time. The only times his eyes are visible are when he's extremely shocked or making a concerted effort to look Flint in the eye.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: His wife, Fran, looked considerably smaller when standing next to his larger build.
* TheMentor: To a group of living pickles that have a taste for sardines when he teaches them how to fish. [[spoiler: At the end of the second film, he ultimately mentors his son in this as well.]]
* MrViceGuy: A very downplayed example. His [[TechnologicallyBlindElders lack of understanding for technology]] coupled with his [[CantSpitItOut difficulties in expressing himself]] make it extremely hard for him to bond with Flint. Despite this, it's very clear that he loves his son and wants him to be okay in life.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Not intentionally, but his lack of understanding how technology works ended up with him sending the wrong USB file to Flint to stop the food machine.
* ParentsAsPeople: Tim isn't a FantasyForbiddingFather by any means, he just has a hard time bonding with his son over something he's personally not cut out for.
* SoProudOfYou: He gives this speech (thanks to Steve's speak-and-spell device) after Flint manages to save Chew and Swallow. It can be counted as a Crowning Moment Of [[SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments Heartwarming]] for many viewers.
* TheStoic: Most of the time, least until Flint does something to their house or one of Flint's inventions winds up affecting him.
* TechnologicallyBlindElders: He's very old-fashioned, and he can't seem to get a grasp of how a lot of the new technology works.
* UglyGuyHotWife: While Tim isn't ugly, Fran was shown to be more conventionally attractive.

The local cop of the Swallow Falls. Due to Flint's inventions, he has a bit of dislike of him.
----
* ActionDad: An extremely athletic, well-built man.
* {{Badbutt}}: In the second film - he just makes pistol gestures with his hands instead of carrying a gun.
* BlueIsHeroic: Always wears his blue officer uniform.
* DynamicEntry: His SayMyName to Flint every time Earl comes up in a TV episode.
* {{Flanderization}}: The TV series has him watching Flint's every move with an eagle eye to the point Earl looks ProperlyParanoid of his inventions screwing things up.
* GoodParents: Earl ''loves'' his son and will do ''anything'' for him.
* HappilyMarried: He may be a brash man and tough law enforcer, but he's a loving and devoted husband.
* HatOfAuthority: His officer's cap that also has a gold badge on it.
* JerkassHasAPoint: He isn't wrong about Flint's inventions causing a lot of trouble.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Extremely paranoid and hostile towards Flint. And he calls out the townspeople (including himself) for their partial responsibility for their town being destroyed. There's also his deep and undying love towards his wife and son.
* ManlyManAndSensitiveGuy: The assertive and blunt Manly Man to Flint and Brent's dorkier and shier Sensitive Guys.
* ManlyTears: Subverted and played straight in the second movie. He orders a tear back into his tear duct after first seeing the food animals. But at the end, he allows it to fall, whereupon it somehow manages to make a blueberry grow chest hair.
* MySignificanceSenseIsTingling: He could sense Flint was up to something before he even found him. He also is the first one to notice something is off about the Live Corp employees...
* PapaWolf: The man loves his family so much that not even a tidal wave of food could stop him from saving them.
* ProperlyParanoid:
** While his attitude with Flint in the first film is shaky, it's not without justification.
** He was the first to become distrusting of Chester and Live Corp in the second film, especially in regards to Flint's behavior.
* RealMenWearPink: He got a job as a barista after the events of the first film and wears a pretty girly looking outfit until Flint comes by asking for his help.
* SayMyName: In the TV series. [[LampshadeHanging It's even acknowledged in a commercial clip]].
-->'''Earl:''' '''FLINT LOCK-WOOOOOOD!'''
* ShamingTheMob: He gets the mob coming after Flint to back down, claiming while it was his invention causing the mess, they were the ones taking it for granted.
* SpiderSense: He knows when something is wrong when his chest hairs start tingling.
* SkewedPriorities: Apparently can't do anything if police tape is involved.
* TestosteronePoisoning: So manly he can regrow his beard in seconds just by force of will. Heck, even his [[ManlyTears tears]] can give you chest hair.
%%* TopHeavyGuy

A local celebrity of Swallow Falls who used to advertise sardines as "Baby Brent." He was also a bully toward Flint during their childhood.
----
* ArtifactName: He still goes by "Baby Brent" even though he's a grown man now.
* TheBerserker: A very positive one, but still.
* BreakTheHaughty: Losing all of his fame as a FormerChildStar gives Brent a real (and comical) look at himself.
* TheBully: In the show, seeing how it takes place before the movie. He constantly gives Flint a hard time and humiliates him and Sam when they have to be his babysitter ([[ItMakesSenseInContext roll with it]]).
* CharacterCatchphrase: "Uh-oh!"
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: A FatIdiot who takes over one of the chickens that were attacking the group in the climax and held them off to allow Flint and Sam to go on ahead. He likewise saves Sam after her allergy is triggered and ''leaps'' off the food structure so that Manny can catch them.
* TheDitz: Not exactly the brightest tool in the shed, considering he's a ManChild.
* FatComicRelief: A childish, silly, chubby guy.
* {{Flanderization}}: In the TV series, he is far more obnoxious and stupid, and is rarely seen in anything other than his diaper.
* FormerChildStar: A comedic example.
* HeelFaceTurn: He eventually assists Flint in stopping his machine, becoming Chicken Brent in the process.
* {{Jerkass}}: Brent was a royal ''pain'' to Flint. CharacterDevelopment helped him grow out of it.
* ManChild: The fact that he's still coasting on his former child star status and still does ''public appearances'' as said mascot should tell you as much.
** Taken up a notch in the series, where he actually believes that he is still a baby and acts as such.
* ManlyManAndSensitiveGuy: The openly emotional Sensitive Guy to Earl's assertive and blunt Manly Man.
* NakedPeopleAreFunny: In his "Baby Brent" persona, though he wears a diaper.
* NiceGuy: After losing his fame, Brent [[TookALevelInKindness lost all of his arrogance]] and became this.
* NoIndoorVoice: Constantly shouting.
* ReformedBully: He harassed Flint quite a bit during his childhood and part of his adulthood. However, after Flint takes over the position of town hero, meaning he can no longer sit on his laurels, he begins to think about who he really is. Ultimately, he winds up becoming Flint's friend, to the degree that Flint has to be reminded by Chester that it didn't used to be that way.
* TookALevelInBadass: Once he becomes CHICKEN BRENT, ''no'' ambulatory food monster is safe.
* TookALevelInKindness: Was initially a bully towards Flint, but after he creates his machine, he mends his ways and the two become friends.

Sam's rather mysterious cameraman.
----
* TheAce: Has a ''lot'' of skills under his belt. He is a doctor, a pilot and a comedian.
* BadassDriver: In a ''flying car'' no less.
* BrainyBrunette: Manny turns out to be an incredibly smart man and has brown hair.
* ChekhovsGunman: He was a seemingly un-important character throughout most of the first movie, until the climax.
* TheComicallySerious: He is a comedian, among other things.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindows: Brown hair and brown eyes.
* EyeObscuringHat: Though they are shown in bits of the second movie.
* {{Flanderization}}: The TV series turns him into such a BunnyEarsLawyer, and he is more prone to smiling.
* GratuitousSpanish: He speaks Spanish in a few times.
* HiddenDepths: Let's see, cameraman, doctor, pilot, mechanic, [[ArsonmurderAndJaywalking comedian]]...
* ManlyTears: After seeing his camera destroyed by Live Corp employees.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Modeled after Jean Reno, particularly his role in the [[Film/{{Godzilla1998}} '98 Godzilla movie.]]
* TheStoic: His tone never goes beyond a low tone, even in scary situations.

Flint's mother and Tim's wife.
----
* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest: She has been dead almost a decade but supported her son in his inventing, while her widowed husband was more awkward with Flint and tried to convince him to give up on his passion.
* GoodParents: Fran was a loving, encouraging, supportive, sweet, friendly, and caring mother and was the main reason why Flint continued his love for inventing.
* HappilyMarried: While her marriage with Tim wasn't shown a lot, it's clear that they had a close one.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Fran looked considerably smaller when standing next to her larger husband.
* TheLostLenore: Her death deeply affected her husband.
* MissingMom: She died during some point in his childhood. Both her son and husband truly miss her.
* NiceGirl: She was a great person.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: She only had one scene, but it was her encouragement that gave Flint the confidence to keep on inventing.
* UglyGuyHotWife: While Tim isn't ugly, Fran was shown to be more conventionally attractive.

Short for the ''Flint Lockwood Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator'', the titular machine that can make water into food. It winds up accidentally orbiting the air above the city which allow for the food to rain down on it when given commands. However [[GoneHorriblyWrong it becomes overloaded]] and begins raining larger proportions of food all over the world, forcing Flint to try to manually shut it down.
----
* AIIsACrapshoot: After it become overloaded, it gains sentience and starts raining down larger sized proportions of food not only on Swallow Falls but the rest of the world as well. [[spoiler:[[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] completely by the second movie.]]
* BigBad: Of the first film, if the mayor can be considered a lesser threat.
* CallingYourAttacks: Calls out the name of the food it makes, with a really cool voice to boot.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Near the end of the first movie, the food it creates starts coming to life to attack the heroes. [[spoiler: A sign of its ability for the second movie.]]
* GiantFood: In the first movie the longer it's active the bigger and bigger the portions it makes are.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:In the second film, it started making life rather than trying to destroy it.]]
* ImpossiblyDeliciousFood: It's established in the sequel that the food it replicates tastes more delicious than regular food.
* MatterReplicator: Spoofed; the techobabble explaining how it works states that it uses microwave radiation to "mutate the food molecules" that comprise water to transmute it into other foods.
* MookMaker: It starts spewing sentient food at the team to defend itself once they begin to approach the meateoroid to shut it off. [[spoiler:After its HeelFaceTurn, it instead begins to create foodimals.]]
* NotQuiteDead: Was thought to be destroyed at the end of the last film, but then managed to jolt itself back online.
* ShoehornedAcronym: Although Flint insists on abbreviating its name, the resulting acronym isn't even pronounceable, much less meaningful.
* TimTaylorTechnology: It wasn't working properly because it didn't have enough power. Flint hooking it up directly to the town power station is more than enough to make it fully operational.
* WeatherManipulation: As a side effect of being high up with the clouds, it becomes capable of making it [[RainOfSomethingUnusual rain food]]. As it grows out of control, it begins to create other weather patterns like spaghettornadoes and meatballs. Not a WeatherControlMachine because this isn't its primary function.

Earl's son.
----
* TheCutie: The second cutest child in town.
* DeadpanSnarker: Cal makes a few snarky remarks here and there.
* DemotedToExtra: He only gets a cameo in the second film. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]], since Earl doesn't want him getting involved in the potentially dangerous plot.
* {{Flanderization}}: The TV series severely demotes his overall attitude and turns him into a soulless smiling kid with no voice. At least the excuse is he's an infant as the show takes place in a HighSchoolAU.
* FoodComa: He falls into one after eating too much junk food. His father wakes him up with celery.
* InSeriesNickname: His full name is actually "Calvin."
* MoralityPet: Cal's presence shows his father's softer side.

The rather unscrupulous mayor of Swallow Falls.
----
* AbusiveParents: In the TV series, he has a son named Gil, whom he treats less like an offspring and more like an unpaid assistant.
* AmbitionIsEvil: He wanted to make Swallow Falls a tourist attraction and Flint's food machine grants that. But then he starts getting greedy...
* AscendedExtra: The TV series expands his role as he's both a mayor, and school principal, and all-around asshole.
* BigBad: Well somewhat, it's his actions that cause the disasters of the movie. But the main threat is the food machine when it starts going haywire.
* BigEater: He was a rather small looking guy when first introduced. But he bulks up quickly after gorging himself on the food.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Seems like your typical supportive and well-intentioned mayor, but he is actually a greedy, callous jerk who only cares about fueling his ego and achieving his desires.
* DeanBitterman: For some reason, he's also the principal in show's HighSchoolAU, as well as being the mayor.
* DidNotThinkThisThrough: Mayor Shelbourne leaves the town to rot by escaping on a boat made of giant food. As he's escaping, he eats the boat... which, y'know, means he doesn't get very far away from town.
-->'''Mayor Shelbourne:''' This was ''not'' well thought-out.
* DirtyCoward: Immediately leaves the rest of the town to die when they start evacuating, leaving Earl in charge of guiding them.
-->'''Mayor:''' Wait, wait. [[ExactWords I have an important announcement.]] ''[{{Beat}}]'' [[SoLongSuckers See you, suckers!]] Whoo-hoo! Bon voyage... and bon appétit.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: In the show. As bad as he is, even he is disgusted by how rotten his father, Hector [[MeaningfulName Evilman]], can be.
* FatBastard: After he reveals his true colors after said gorging. So much so he needs a scooter to get around.
* FormerlyFit: Well, he was never ''lean'', but he was still a twig compared to the monstrously obese blob he later becomes.
* {{Greed}}:
** The man doomed the whole world ordering an all you can eat buffet.
** In the series he claims his greatest trauma as a child was not getting all the candy on Halloween. No, not that he didn't get any Halloween candy. He got a massive room full of candy. He meant ''all'' the Halloween candy. He was miserable because their people were able to get Halloween candy instead of getting every piece on the island for himself.
* HateSink: The first film doesn't really have a villain, as the food machine is the true threat. The mayor is just there to be hated.
* TheHedonist: He seeks pleasure at any cost; including eating large amounts of FLDSMDFR food and trying to be as "big" as possible solely to make his little town stand out in the world.
* IntentionalWeightGain: Due to his desire to be "big", it doesn't take long to start gorging on any and all food within his reach, quickly gaining so much weight that he starts needing a scooter to move around.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Only cares about ''his own'' self-benefit rather than the safety of the city he runs. Especially shown when he leaves them to their fates so he can steal (and eat) one of their lifeboats and make it out himself. Also, it's quite clear that he wants the food machine to continue for ''just himself'', not for his residents.
* JabbaTableManners: He is constantly shown shoving all sorts of junk food in his mouth from the sky. At one point, he swallows a 6-foot-long hot dog whole ''while he is still talking''.
* {{Jerkass}}: Literally nothing to like about him.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: It looked liked he got away scot-free for overloading the food machine, which led to the disasters, and pinning the blame on Flint. But he doesn't get far in his escape and the credits show he was arrested by Earl. [[spoiler:[[DoubleSubversion However]], he escapes right after that. He also appears as a cameo in the sequel, selling corndogs.]]
* LargeHam: He's voiced by Bruce Campbell, what'd you expect?
* NeverMyFault: Pins the blame on Flint for the food machine going haywire, even though him ordering the buffet was what caused the food apocalypse.
-->'''Mayor:''' "This is all his fault. Get him!"
* NewJobAsThePlotDemands: Somewhat. In the series, Shelbourne holds every position of authority in Swallow Falls. He's the mayor, the school principal, the police chief, and the fire chief. If it's a job associated with power, Shelbourne is the one in it.
* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain: He derogatorily calls Sam Sparks a "cutlet" while inciting Flint to keep producing food weather under his demands.
* SoLongSuckers: Said word for word as the first to leave the town... and everyone else on it to their fates.
* TooDumbToLive: Eating his own escape boat, which leaves him stranded out in the ocean.
* UltimateAuthorityMayor: He seems to be the only major authority power in Swallow Falls, as he admits he spent the entire town's budget on Sardine Land "without consulting anyone," and later "took out a very high-interest loan" to renovate the island into a tourist attraction, again likely without consulting anyone. In the series, he seemingly holds every position of authority in Swallow Falls.
* WeightTaller: His obese self is much taller than the tiny man he was at his original girth.
* WolfMan: Mayor Shelbourne in the TV series has an ability to turn into a werewolf whenever someone tries to take 'his' candy or when he gets mad on a full moon.

The CEO of Live Corp and one of the world's leading scientists. Flint's food machine catches his attention.
----
* AssholeVictim: He deserves zero sympathy after being eaten alive by the Cheese-Spider.
* BadBoss: His workers are just there to fulfill his own needs. He doesn't care a lick for them, and even his assistant Barb isn't exempt from this.
* BaldOfEvil: He's bald and the BigBad of the second movie.
* BeardOfEvil: Chester V has a white beard (a brown one in his youth) and is evil.
* BigBad: Of the second movie, though he can also be thought of as this for the franchise as a whole.
* BrokenPedestal: For Flint, whose sole reason for getting into science was because of him.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: No one would think that an over-the-top person like Chester would be the CEO of a corporation and somehow manage to keep it afloat, but he does. Unfortunately, [[CorruptCorporateExecutive those means of doing so are not ethical in the slightest]].
* CardCarryingVillain: He very gleefully points out what a ManipulativeBastard he is and shows no signs of delusion regarding it.
** The way he's revealed as the BigBad is because Manny flipped his company logo to reveal that "Live Corp" actually means "''Evil'' Corp". He basically calls his own company a company for evil.
** When he reveals that he was manipulating Flint the entire time.
--->'''Flint:''' B-But you were my idol! My whole life, I looked up to you! I wanted to ''be'' you!\
'''Chester:''' Oh, Lockwood. I was just using you to get your invention!
** When he reveals his EvilPlan to Flint.
--->'''Flint:''' I never should've believed in you!\
'''Chester:''' Yes, that was quite foolish.
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: To the Mayor from the first movie. Mayor Shelbourne was a politician who uses Flint's invention for his own gluttony and social status while Chester is a businessman who uses Flint's invention to improve his business. Shelbourne endangers the world with Flint's invention while Chester endangers the island.
* CoolShades: Green tinted glasses.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: He intends to find the food machine so he can reprogram it and make more Foodimals that he'll be able to turn into food bars. He also intends to pave over the remainder of Swallow Falls and "work in complete secrecy."
* DevilInPlainSight: He isn't fooling anyone in the audience.
---> '''Chester V''': Now we can keep an eye on him. He has no idea of our ''real'' plan!
* EatenAlive: Caught by the Cheese Spider and swallowed whole. To really drive it home, the Cheese Spider spits out his trademark vest which quickly deflates.
* EntitledBastard: Despite mockingly calling Barb a monkey throughout the film and firing her when she hesitates to carry out the order to kill Flint's friends, Chester still has the nerve to beg for her help, all the while continuing to call her "monkey." This is what cements Barb's HeelFaceTurn and [[MistreatmentInducedBetrayal leads her to turn on him]].
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: He feels that friends only slow you down and mocks Flint for it. Flint counters that it's better than being alone like he was.
* EvilIsPetty: He talks about how he should have kept the bullies of his youth around, simply so he could rub his success in their faces.
* EvilRedhead: Before he goes bald and his eyebrows and beard turn white with old age.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Always speaks in a friendly tone even as he's doing awful things.
* FourEyesZeroSoul: He wears glasses, but is evil.
* HopeSpot: He manages to survive being thrown into the food grinder which spits him out toward an exit only to be caught and eaten by the Cheese-Spider.
* ILied: In the usual YouSaidYouWouldLetThemGo moment after Flint gives into his demands to save his friends.
* InsufferableGenius: He's an inventor who was also treated as an outcast due to being different in his youth, but unlike Flint, he's also a self-centered {{Jerkass}}.
* ItsAllAboutMe: The man's so self-obsessed that the only company he keeps outside of Barb are holograms of himself.
* {{Jerkass}}: Unempathic, irresponsible and he will go against you if you find out that he's evil.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: He helps Flint to find FLDSMDFR in order to profit from the latest fruitbar, while lying to his face that he want to change the world for the better.
* LackOfEmpathy: Cares not if the food is sentient, as long as it can bring him business, it's good enough for him.
* LaughablyEvil: He's a prick, but his goofiness to his evil personality certainly is entertaining.
* LeaveNoWitnesses: His motive behind [[ILied lying]] about letting Flint's friends go, that being that they're technically witnesses to his Food Bar conspiracy.
-->'''Chester:''' Please understand I can't leave any witnesses.
* MaliciousMisnaming: Considering he's smart enough to know the difference between a monkey and a ape, the implication is that he deliberately calls Barb the former, just to mock her.
* ManipulativeBastard: Plays off Flint's hero worship of him to lead him to the food machine and then later convinces Flint that his friends are just slowing him down and that he doesn't need them.
* MeanBoss: When Barb tells him to "take care of that weather girl [Sam]", she tells him that she can't because she's a scientist (like he is). His response is to essentially coerce her into obeying him by praising her for her intellect, then running off when she agrees.
* MesACrowd: His holograms, even weaponized in the climax.
* {{Narcissist}}: He is often surrounded by his holograms, who are programmed to compliment and kiss up to him.
* NoodlePeople: Bonus points for ''acting'' like a noodle. The boneless way he moves can be a little... unsettling...
* ObviouslyEvil: Once they start spending any amount of seconds with him, everyone immediately can tell Chester is at the very absolute least, shifty and at worst, outright villainous. Flint is the only person in the film that falls for his manipulations for any amount of time, mostly because of his HeroWorship towards him.
* ShadowArchetype: Shares a lot of traits with Flint; crazy inventions, a simian lab partner, odd yet quirky personality, he was even bullied as a kid due to his love of science. The only defining trait is that he gave into his ego and does unscrupulous actions in his endeavors up to and including ''trying to kill Flint and shred his friends alive''.
* SlaveToPR: Implied in his MotiveRant when he discusses wanting to keep his company's reputation to Flint.
-->'''Chester:''' Live Corp will remain the coolest, hippest company in the world, with the new Food Bar version 8.0.!
%% SmugSnake:
* TheSociopath: He lies to Flint, plans to turn the innocent foodimals into food bars, and tries to shred Flint's friends alive, all without a shred of remorse (and a [[PsychopathicManchild childlike]] smile on his face).
* SquishyWizard: He takes potshots at Flint while using the holograms to hide himself. But once Flint manages to find him, he's knocked down by a swift karate chop.
* TooDumbToLive: Calling for his ''holograms'' to catch him in the climax. While he didn't exactly have any other options at the time, points for thinking it would ''work'' though.
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Outside of his own corporation, it seems that Chester has a positive reputation, enough for Flint to be deceived. Behind that reputation is a CorruptCorporateExecutive who is willing to turn to the genocide of a species for the sake of profit.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Tried to pull it on Flint after they find the food machine.

Chester's lab assistant and talking orangutan that has a human brain implanted in her.
----
* AnimalGenderBender: She's a female orangutan with large cheek flaps, which only male orangutans have in real life.
* BerserkButton: Being called a "monkey." She seems to take it in stride when Steve calls her that (since it was just him innocently pointing out things he sees). But it's obvious she doesn't like Chester doing it since they've been companions for the longest time, as well as the fact he does it in a rather mocking manner. Come the climax, it's the final straw when he still does it while calling for help.
* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: Is only wearing a Live Corp vest with no pants for most of the movie until the end, where she ditches even that and ends up fully naked.
* HandyFeet: Justified, as she's an orangutan.
* HeelFaceTurn: Though she wasn't really evil in the first place, mainly just following orders and even then she's shown to have a conscience.
* IAmNotWeasel: She's an ape, not a monkey.
* IOweYouMyLife: Doesn't say it, but Flint coming to aid when a Taco-Dile was about to eat her certainly contributes to her Heel Face Turn.
* MistreatmentInducedBetrayal: Chester not recognizing her as a friend rather than just another employee pretty much resulted in this.
* NonHumanSidekick: Barb is Chester's ape assistant.
* SixthRanger: To the main characters after the whole ordeal. They gladly welcome her.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: Tells the group that Chester calling her a "monkey" was just him playing. But it's obvious that she doesn't really believe it herself.
* TalkingAnimal: Though unlike Steve, she can speak clearly due to having a human brain.

* BadassAdorable: [[spoiler:Pilots a mech in the climax.]]
* CreatorCameo: Voiced by one of the co-directors of the film.
* TheCutie: Who knew that a strawberry could be so adorable?
* GondorCallsForAid: Helps rally the Foodimals to help attack Chester's base of operations.
* HeroWorshipper: Barry idolizes Flint as his indirect creator.
* LetsGetDangerous: He commanders one of the Live Corp mechs and uses it against the others.
* ALizardNamedLiz: A straw'''berry''' named '''Barry'''.
* RedIsHeroic: A red strawberry.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: Possibly the cutest strawberry you'll ever see.

The various animals that mutated from the FLDSMDFR and now inhabit Swallow Falls.

* AnimalisticAbomination: Most of them resemble animals, but in reality they're just another generation of hyper-mutated food that eventually grew minds of their own.
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler:The newly created marshmallows save Flint after Chester tries to push him into a chasm.]]
* TheCavalry: Those that weren't caught by Chester rally behind Flint and Barry and storm the Live Corp building.
* FantasticFaunaCounterpart: Most of them clearly resemble specific real-world animals.
* MamaBear: The Taco-Dile Supreme, turns out it was just protecting it territory and looking after its young.
* MixAndMatchCritters: Some are made of various foodstuffs.
* MonsterIsAMommy: This is the first tip-off that these guys aren't as malevolent as they seem to be.
* MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily: The Taco-Diles.
* {{Planimal}}: Many of these guys are based on fruits and vegetables. Barry and the leek stand out for being basically AnthropomorphicFood instead of animalistic food.
* PunnyName: All of them, [[spoiler:except for the tomato.]]
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: A good number of them.
