Tropes pertaining to the many Creator/{{Nintendo}} characters (and others) as they appear in ''Webcomic/BrawlInTheFamily''.
----
[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Main Characters]]
!!Kirby
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/RKirby_4880.jpg]]
A happy, adventurous, and voracious little puffball from [[Franchise/{{Kirby}} the game series of the same name]]. Sort of the unofficial protagonist of the comic. He sees just about every other character as his friend or snack.

His personality remains practically the same as the anime's rendition, however Kirby has gained the ability to talk and fails to eat as much (after the first 50 comics or so, at least).
----
* AllLovingHero: There's absolutely no one the puffball hates. Especially not Dedede.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: The end of "The Sleepover, Part 4" has Dedede casually whacking Kirby offscreen and going to sleep, only for an enraged puffball to lunge on-panel with a pillow raised over his head.
* BigBrotherInstinct: He got Meta Knight banned from ''Smash Bros''. for the sake of keeping Dedede safe.
* BigEater: Naturally. Later strips deemphasize this, since the comics have mostly tried to focus less on just "Kirby eats something" jokes, but when the comics first started Kirby eating literally everything and anything he found was a major RunningGag.
%%* CheerfulChild: [[VagueAge If you interpret Kirby as a child.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: Occasionally. For example, during the "A Mushroom Kingdom Carol" arc:
-->'''Mario''': Gee, there sure are some ugly people here.\
'''Kirby''': Uh, this is the present. People can still hear you.
%%* ExtremeOmnivore: Naturally.
* InTouchWithHisFeminineSide: During the Sleepover arc, he gets overexcited about the sleepover with Dedede and suggests all sorts of things they can do, such as doing their nails, gossiping, and having pillow fights.
* ManipulativeBastard: But probably one of the most well-meaning ones around. For instance, he tricks Dedede into saying "I love you" so that Kirby has an excuse to hug him, and he impersonates Meta Knight to trick other people to hug the real thing.
* MotorMouth: "[[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/420-thesleepover2/ The Sleepover, Part 2]]" Also, before that, The "Dededoll"'s debut and the Smash-Up "TV Store".
* MysteriousPast: Unlike the other characters who've had focus, where Kirby came from and how and why he became a hero is left unsaid. All that's known is that according to Meta Knight he first appeared when Dedede began stealing all the food and his arrival heralded a sudden shift in the balance of power in Dreamland.
* NightmareFuelStationAttendant: He can tell really scary stories, see TakeOurWordForIt below.
* OriginalGeneration: In-universe, at least. As implied by the Cocoon Academy storyline.
* TheQuietOne: Zig-zagged; he alternates between talking as much as other characters, talking very little (such as saying only one word in a strip), and not talking at all.
* SwallowedWhole: This is how he eats. It's implied that it's physically harmless, if mentally traumatizing, for the target in the long run.
* TakeOurWordForIt: [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/196-zombiefinale/ His turn]] at the scary story RoundRobin. It must've been horrifying, if the others' reactions are a clue.
* VisualPun: He ate a Gordo and now he's ''[[GratuitousSpanish gordo]]''. Meta Knight even lampshades it before it even happens.

!!King Dedede
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/RDedede_824.jpg]]
The self-proclaimed ruler of Dreamland and Kirby's rival. He always wants to "get" or otherwise inconvenience Kirby or someone else. This rarely works for him.

Dedede keeps the {{Jerkass}} personality from the anime, however here he comes off as close friends to Meta Knight, Kirby, and Adeleine; a CallBack to ''Crystal Shards'', where the last two were partners. A 10-Part comic, Cocoon Academy, reveals that [[spoiler: he and Meta Knight were friends when they were children]], which explains why Meta Knight never did anything to stop Dedede.
----
* AdaptationalHeroism: While Dedede was never particularly ''evil'' in the games, Brawl In the Family gave him a origin story that explains how he managed to become a self-centered JerkWithAHeartOfGold.
* AmbitionIsEvil: [[spoiler:Ganondorf taught Dedede that ambition was a heroic trait, and apparently he took this to heart.]]
* TheBigGuy: Most of the time, especially in ''Return to Dreamland'' comics.
* ButtMonkey, when Luigi's not around.
* CarryABigStick: His main weapon is a mallet.
* CrossoverShip: [[invoked]]
** With Samus, though the feeling is not mutual.
** Also with a Prinplup in the Holiday Vacation arc. It too isn't mutual, because it only used an Attraction move [[spoiler: and was seeing a Ditto]].
* DeadpanSnarker: He does this more than anyone else, although to be fair, Meta Knight isn't around half the time.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Apart from eating everything, no one's sure why Dedede's after Kirby; apart from regular bouts and game-wise Brawling. As for Christmas, he steals ''everything'' from the Brawlers for the same reason the Grinch did... [[ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill every year]].
* EnemyMine: Tries to pull this with Meta Knight to get Kirby, though Meta Knight often doesn't care.
* {{Jerkass}}: One of the differences between him and Kirby.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: However, he seems to actually care about Kirby and consider him a friend to an extent; a few comics imply (or outright show) that the two hang out often at each other's houses, and in comic 416 he's shown being pretty nice to Kirby and walking away with him.
* NotSoDifferentRemark: Told by Meta Knight that he and Kirby are not very different when you get down to it.
-->''Well, like it or not, you and Kirby aren't that different. But where he has childlike optimism, you have untempered malice. Sometimes, that's all the difference one needs to be the "good guy".''
* OnlySaneMan: Granted, most characters get this, but it's usually King Dedede who reacts this way to the "cuteness" around him.
* PokemonSpeak: When visiting the Pokémon world, Red perceives him as only saying "Dedede" over and over.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: If his royalty is legitimate, that is.
* SitcomArchNemesis: His relationship with Kirby could be seen this way.
* StartOfDarkness: When he [[spoiler: discovered his ability for commanding others in the Cocoon Academy arc]].
* UnknownRival: To Kirby, who treats him as a friend.
%%* UsedToBeASweetKid
* VitriolicBestBuds: Seems to have a Type 2 relationship with Meta Knight. Also with Kirby, but Kirby treats him as a regular friend rather than this.

!!Meta Knight
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/RMeta_8433.jpg]]
A mysterious figure with a mask and a cape who tries to keep to himself whenever he's not harassed by his friends. Or rather people who think of him as one of their friends.

He has little patience for jokes here, and he doesn't actually want to have friends. However, forcefully, he's become friends with the other main characters.
----
* TwentyFourHourArmor: If you don't count him removing his mask when he sleeps.
* BroughtDownToBadass: [[spoiler:He used to have powers similar to Kirby, but he lost them during the cocoon academy arc. Though given how he turned out, he seems to have coped just fine.]]
* TheComicallySerious: As his profile states, he does not joke or fool around... much. He does pull a prank on Dedede once or twice, showing that he definitely does have a sense of humor. He just doesn't use it much.
* CoveredWithScars: His face; from Dedede's "Gooey Bomb prank". They appear to have vanished by the time of the final arc.
* DeadpanSnarker: Rivals Dedede in this respect.
* EmbarrassingNickname: [[spoiler: Pinky]]. Wasn't embarrassing at first, though.
* HomelessHero: For a knight whose [[spoiler: best friend/]]ally has a castle, Meta Knight ''always'' sleeps in the woods.
* NoNameGiven: Meta Knight is an alias. [[spoiler: As is Pinky.]]
* NotSoStoic: [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/134-gooeybomb5/ Pay attention to Meta Knight in this comic]]. As Adeleine talks to to King Dedede about [[VideoGame/Kirby64TheCrystalShards his adventures with her and Kirby]], Meta Knight is laughing hysterically.
* OnlySaneMan: One of the most normal characters, though his cartoonish need for privacy doesn't put him ''completely'' in the territory of this trope.
* ScarsAreForever: [[spoiler: His blue complexion]], as well as some [[TakeOurWordForIt unseen]] scars from a certain [[ContinuityNod gooey bomb incident.]] The latter incident seems to have been [[AvertedTrope averted]] towards the end of the comic.
* TheSmartGuy: In ''Return to Dreamland'' comics.
* StartOfDarkness: Sort of, when he [[spoiler: turned blue after fighting Dark Matter]].
%%* TheStoic
* TheUnReveal: When he removes his mask. [[spoiler: Up until the Cocoon Academy arc, that is. We also get to see him in full during the final arc of the comic.]]

!!Adeleine
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/RAdeleine_19.jpg]]
Kirby's female and human companion from ''Kirby 64''. She likes to paint and hang out with Kirby and the others, and is one of the few who almost completely tolerates King Dedede.
----
%%* ArtInitiatesLife
* AscendedExtra: She has a very small role in the actual series, but is a much more central character in the comic. This is lampshades from time to time, chiefly when strips about recently released games point out how she's getting left out of most adventures.
%%* CheerfulChild
* CompositeCharacter: While her design in ''[=BiTF=]'' is largely based on Canon!Adeleine's design, her design also incorporates elements of Ado from ''VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand3''. Most notably Ado's more boyish hairstyle.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: In her first appearance, her dress is sleeveless and she had very chubby proportions. She also had no fingers or toes.
* HelpImStuck: Subverted in the Gooey Bomb arc; while Meta Knight and Dedede are glued to her canvas, she willingly sticks around, even if she isn't stuck to the Gooey Bomb herself.
* OCStandIn: While few of the characters got much characterization in the games, Canon!Adeleine is even less developed than Meta Knight, Dedede, or even Kirby himself. Not so in [=BiTF=].
* OutOfFocus: For a good while she didn't appear as constantly as before, partially due to a combination of less Kirby-centric comics and Jigglypuff getting more screentime. {{Lampshaded}} during the [[VideoGame/KirbysReturnToDreamland Dream Land]] arc, where due to not canonically appearing during the game, she's instead shown waiting at home for any word from Kirby and the others.
* ShipTease: She calls Meta Knight sweet at the end of the [[spoiler:Cocoon Academy]] story arc, also asking him to show how handsome he truly is as early as their [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/135-gooeybomb6/ second real appearance together]].[[note]]Not counting [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/98-trickortreat/ 98 - Trick or Treat]], where they don't interact, and [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/72-boxart/ 72 - Box Art]], where they are just... Guess.[[/note]]
** Strengthened by the fact that the two have appeared as a pair [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/301-newyearnewadventures/ more]] [[http://brawlinthefamily.com/media/book3pic1.jpg times]] [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/488-adeleineforsmashbros/ than]] [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/wp-content/themes/comicpress/images/buttoncommunity1.png you'd]] [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/402-dreamlandpaintings/ think]]. [[note]]Implied in Link 1, in the bottom/centermost panel. The second link is taken from the [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/store/20160525_133527_resized-1f-2/ third printed book]].[[/note]]
** Volume 3 of the books turns it into full-on {{Shipping}}, Matthew apparently having the ship grow on him:
---> '''Matthew Taranto ([[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/forum/showthread.php?69-We-Begin-Anew-Like-a-Phoenix-from-the-Ashes-(A-BitF-Surprise!)&p=697703#post697703 2012]]):''' ...Nor do I intend on having her and Meta Knight going out or whatever! [[labelnote:Continued]]I just think the idea of a kiddie crush (on an older, heroic/mysterious type in this case) is kinda cute and sort of fits for her. Who ''wouldn't'' like Meta Knight after learning of [[spoiler:his conquest at Cocoon Academy?]] That handsome devil almost had me drawing my ''own'' bishie self-insert there! (but yeah, Metaleine ain't gonna happen, at least not in [=BitF=])[[/labelnote]]
---> '''Matthew Taranto (2016):''' Oh, [[SpaghettiKiss s]][[http://imgur.com/a/xLmxv o?]]
** If that picture isn't enough, read on: By the end of the 10-page poem in said book, Adeleine has successfully retrieved Meta Knight's mask from a well (presumably dedicating ''most of the night'' to the task). Then, [[spoiler:she also ''paints'' "To my pal, love Adeleine" on the inside. And it isn't meant for a gag, as comic 55 - "Nap". [[labelnote:Don't get it?]]''It will '''never''' come off!''[[/labelnote]]]] Meta Knight's reaction? He is ''ecstatic'', fully understanding and fine with [[spoiler:the message being there for the rest of his life, him only needing to shift his gaze up or down to see it]]. [[labelnote:Or, as the exact text says...]]And since that day, he kept [the mask] on / Not simply as a wall... / But as a gift from Adeleine / To cherish above all.[[/labelnote]] Needless to say, if something like ''that'' happens, you ''know'' you're witnessing a big ship.
* PrecociousCrush: Considering he's a generation older than her. [[labelnote:meta-note]]1 Generation = About 30 years[[/labelnote]]
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: One of the few prominent female characters, and for a long time one the only female character to get a profile.
* VolumetricMouth: [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/2010/10/28/287-doppelgangers At the end of "Doppelgangers".]]
* WideEyedIdealist: Her optimism is how she's able to consider Dedede a friend, despite actually being aware of his tendencies (unlike Kirby, who's just oblivious).

!!Waddle Dee
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/RWaddleDee_7724.jpg]]
King Dedede's loyal servant, based on the Waddle Dee with a bandanna in ''Kirby Superstar Ultra''.
----
* EvilOverlord: In the Plunderful Life arc, [[spoiler:he's revealed to be the tyrant ruling over the alternate present]].
* {{Mook}}: Acts as one for Dedede, even back when they were kids in school.
* MookFaceTurn: Implied in the [[Franchise/AceAttorney Turnabout Kirby]] arc.
* NewTransferStudent: How he was introduced midway through the Cocoon Academy arc.
* PayEvilUntoEvil: [[spoiler:He gives Meta Knight evidence during the Turnabout Kirby arc against Dedede]] out of revenge for when he was used to pull a sleigh in "How the King Stole Christmas".

!!Mario
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/RMario_3898.jpg]]
The hero of the Mushroom Kingdom, but with a bit of ego and a whole lot of FridgeLogic for his surroundings. Likely the character who gets the most attention in the comic, outside of the ''Franchise/{{Kirby}}'' cast.
----
* ButtMonkey: It's not as often or as obvious as his brother, but he has a marked tendency to be the butt of jokes, especially when these involve physical comedy such as being at the wrong end of fireballs, piranha plants and the like.
* {{Determinator}}: He's willing to save the princess at any cost, even if he has to relive his life six or seven times.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: In his first appearance [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/12-hitchinaride/ (Hitchin' a Ride)]] he was way fatter. As the comics went on, he slimmed down more and became smaller.
* GoodIsNotNice: Played with. While he comes across as a nice guy overall, he still (mostly unknowingly) does [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/2008/11/17/105-lifeshare/ mean]] [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/288-bulletbill/ things]] in the name of heroism.
* HeroicComedicSociopath: [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/2009/08/13/180-fireballs/ He has]] [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/2009/03/17/148-stomp1/ his moments]].
* HesBack: [[spoiler:Near the end of the ''Mushroom Kingdom Carol'' arc.]]
* {{Irony}}: Was a total nerd in school while Luigi was going out with Peach. Yes, that implies ''Luigi'' had his shadow cast over Mario.
* ResurrectiveImmortality: He has to earn subsequent lives though, and he relives each life from birth.
* SupportingProtagonist: The comic's primarily about Kirby, but Mario tends to have his own heroic things to do.
* TookALevelInBadass: When he got the bright idea to [[spoiler: spin Bowser as he breathes fire in order to kill more Dark Matter, winning Peach's affection. And Eario's affection]]. Then he took another level as an old man to defeat Bowser [[spoiler: Junior]].
* UnwantedAssistance: He's been described as helping others especially when they don't want him to.

!!Luigi
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/RLuigi2_3904.jpg]]
Mario bother, who is equally Italian and good at jumping, but greener, thinner, taller, and less focused on.
----
* ButtMonkey: It's a joke that he exists solely to be the butt of the Mushroom Kingdom's jokes. Even he knows it. This is defied in [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/title-457/ Luigi's Holiday Vacation]], where he manages to be the hero and nothing bad happens to him at all.
%%* FutureBadass
%%* {{Garfunkel}}: To Mario's Simon.
* TheJuggernaut: In the Zelda universe, he just jumps on everything in his way, and uses a Star power-up to run right through Ganondorf.
* ManlyFacialHair: In "Luigi's Holiday Vacation", he grows an impressive beard after the 7-year timeskip to show his increased confidence and power.
* ScreamingWarrior: When using a Star. Especially if he rips off his shirt beforehand. '''RA''AAAA--!'''''
* ThrowTheDogABone: [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/title-457/ Luigi's Holiday Vacation.]] Luigi goes to Hyrule for a fresh start and a chance to be a hero. He gets mistaken for Link due to his green clothes, gets the Master Sword, fights bosses, defeats Ganon, and becomes the new Hero of Time and saves Hyrule. His ButtMonkey status is ''finally'' defied. Especially prevalent because this was the fourth part of a small series where various characters went to other worlds for vacations, and Luigi's was the ''only one'' where something bad ''didn't'' happen.
* YankTheDogsChain: In Comic 510, everything goes Luigi's way for once... well, almost everything. [[spoiler: After Luigi announced himself as finally being number 1, a blue shell flies towards him.]]

!!Bowser
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/RBowser_8306.jpg]]
Mario's arch nemesis, the giant King of the Koopas frequently kidnaps Princess Peach and subsequently has Mario hand his shell to him on a platter.
----
* TheBigGuy: In youth, during [[spoiler: the battle against Dark Matter]].
* DisproportionateRetribution: It's said that nowadays he kidnaps Peach just because he's mad at Mario for beating him in the spin-off games.
* DistinguishedGentlemansPipe: He's depicted with one on his character profile.
%%* GoKartingWithBowser: Literally and parodied at the same time.
* TheManBehindTheMan: In the ''Mushroom Kingdom Carol'' arc, [[spoiler:he's the one behind an adult Bowser Jr.'s machinations]].

!!Jigglypuff
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/RJigglypuff_4822.jpg]]
A Franchise/{{Pokemon}} who loves to sing, even though it puts people to sleep. She can be told apart from the average Jigglypuff by the flower in her hair. Kirby has a relationship with her.
----
* AmbiguousGender: It's technically supposed to be unknown what gender Jigglypuff is (despite Kirby's attraction), but it's heavily implied to be female.
%%* CrossoverShip: With Kirby. [[invoked]]
* DistaffCounterpart: The physical similarities between her and Kirby are said to be a possible reason they got together.
* SatelliteCharacter: She usually only appears because there needs to be a comic about her and Kirby showing affection for one another. She hasn't appeared otherwise.
%%* SatelliteLoveInterest

!!Diddy Kong
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/RDiddy_9406.jpg]]
Donkey Kong's nephew and little buddy. He's one of Kirby's best friends and also his lawyer.
----
* BirdsOfAFeather: With, Kirby since they're both cheerful, childlike, and energetic.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Speaks only in primate language, but was still chosen by Kirby literally to be his lawyer.
%%* CheerfulChild
* DemotedToExtra: His cameo in strip 553 was his first appearance in years.
%%* {{Keet}}
* OutOfFocus: As the comic went on, less and less strips focused on him.
* SilentSnarker: In the Turnabout Kirby arc, he has a hilariously deadpan expression on his face when the judge asks if he has anything to say. The judge apparently completely understands him.

!!Link
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/RLink_5043.jpg]]
Link is the main character of ''Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda'' series, and is usually in his ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime Ocarina of Time]]'' incarnation (the adult version). [[HeroicMime He never speaks]], but his facial expressions and Navi get the job done on that front.
----
%%* AntiHero: On occasion, he can come off as different types.%%Like which?
* DestructiveSavior: Parodied in one strip where Zelda thanks him for saving Hyrule...unaware he destroyed most of it doing exactly that.
* HeroicMime: It's implied that he ''wants'' to speak more, but Navi doesn't let him. The only time he actually gets to speak is when he is briefly transformed into [[WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfZelda1989 his counterpart from the animated series]], and then he only says the infamous {{catchphrase}}, and recoils in shock after he turns into himself again.
* KleptomaniacHero: ExaggeratedTrope. Link is already a good example of this in canon, but the comic presents him as being so obsessed with breaking pots for rupees that he ruins a date with Malon by smashing all the pots in her house.
* LegacyCharacter: Has appeared as a few different versions of himself, but mostly as his adult form from ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime Ocarina of Time]]''.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Accidentally creates many extra suns and moons by overplaying the Sun's Song. And before that, he destroyed most of Hyrule to save Zelda.
%%* SilentSnarker
* SlasherSmile: Pulls off a really effective one when he's about to shut Navi up by [[spoiler: eating her]].

!!Captain Falcon
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/RFalcon_7630.jpg]]
A racer from the ''VideoGame/FZero'' series of games. Based off his portrayal in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'', [[CallingYourAttacks with the same tendency to announce his last name and whatever attack he's doing]]. Or any verb he's doing, for that matter.
----
* AmazonChaser: He's seeing Samus, whose badassery prompts a "Falcon swoon" on their dinner date.
* CallingYourAttacks: It is portrayed as a downright pathological problem for him. When trying to sneak up on his enemies, he is quickly discovered because he keeps announcing "FALCON SNEAK!" as he does so. When playing poker he loses, because he can't help but shouting "FALCON BLUFF!" despite trying to suppress it.
* ConfessInConfidence: He confesses his sins after Falcon Praying and accidentally destroying his church.
-->"FALCON APOLOGIZE!"
%%* CrossoverShip: Hangs out with Samus a lot, with the implications not very far off. They even punched out Snake for showing off his rear. [[invoked]]
%%* ElementalPunch: Say it with me...
* LargeHam: To say the very least, he never lowers his volume when he speaks, making him very loud. He even says his verbal tic a lot, very loud, including doing many things such as "Falcon Pray!"
%%* MegatonPunch: The Falcon Punch, obviously.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Has a tendency to break things that he shouldn't, but what really takes the cake is the time he punched Snake, causing him to black out and fail to save the world from something else going on at the time.
* NoIndoorVoice: Always yells his sentences, even indoors.
* ReligiousBruiser: As his profile puts it, "a confirmed Roman Catholic". He even made his comic debut in church.
* VerbalTic: "Falcon [whatever action he is doing]!"
* WithCatlikeTread: His attempt at stealth is hobbled from the start because he keeps shouting "FALCON SNEAK!" while doing so.

!!Samus
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/RSamus_1429.jpg]]
The hero[[SamusIsAGirl (ine)]] of the ''VideoGame/{{Metroid}}'' games.
----
%%* ActionGirl
* [[invoked]]CrossoverShip: With Captain Falcon. Implied that Dedede has a crush on her too.
* MegatonPunch: She and Captain Falcon deliver a synchronized one to an overly amorous Snake in the "Snake in the Grass" arc. Poor guy never stood a chance.
* OnlySaneWoman: Arguably one of the more normal characters in the comic, making her the StraightMan to everyone else's wackiness.
* PeerAsTeacher: In the Cocoon Academy StoryArc, Samus is a student teacher for the combat training course and is instructing the new freshmen students. When [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOracleGames Veran]] smugly asks why they should listen to a fellow student, Samus shuts her up with her plasma whip.
* SamusIsAGirl: Despite being the trope namer, it's actually averted here since it's already common knowledge among readers and in-universe characters that Samus is female. However, in [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/268-authorization/ "Authorization"]], it's inverted: what appears to be Samus uncharacteristically struggling to complete her mission turns out to be the male [[VideoGame/MetroidOtherM Adam Malkovich]] wearing the power suit instead.
* UnroboticReveal: As an InternalReveal (and a parody of SamusIsAGirl), Mega Man becomes very upset when Samus takes off her helmet and he discovers that she isn't a robot.

!!Pit
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/RPit_7323.jpg]]
The star of the ''VideoGame/KidIcarus'' series. Made a few appearances in early comics, but the release of ''VideoGame/KidIcarusUprising'' has boosted his role to a main character. When he’s not taking advantage of opportunities for adventure and challenge–he does love testing that Intensity Cauldron–he spends his free time kicking back and shooting the breeze with Lady Palutena.
----
* AscendedExtra: As mentioned before, he got a lot more attention once ''VideoGame/KidIcarusUprising'' came out.
* BadassAdorable: He brings this trope over from [[VideoGame/KidIcarus his home series]].
* BoomerangBigot: In the [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/340-comicreviewe32011/ E3 2011 strip]], he says that he hates lefties, even though he's left-handed (or at least ambidextrous).
* ChallengeSeeker: He loves using the Intensity Cauldron for even mundane things, such as swinging on a swing set.
* GoodWingsEvilWings: Good, of course.
* LuminescentBlush: When Palutena teases him about looking for a date in the newspaper.
* MundaneMadeAwesome: Invokes this by pouring loads of hearts into an Intensity Cauldron before riding a swing set.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Lampshaded by the AltText when hinting he has a crush on the Wii Fit Trainer. The age difference is too big... Pit is decades older.
* {{Pun}}: "I'm afraid you have an enlarged vowel in your heart". He is also the subject of more than one, specifically in reference to the pits that Mario has to deal with.

!!Eario
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/REario_5044.jpg]]
A janitor who cleans up the levels in the Mushroom Kingdom after Mario goes through them. He has a history of cleaning and being randomly attacked by the scenery. He worships Mario.
----
* DungeonMaintenance: His job is to clean up after the ''Mario'' characters' adventures, such as by sweeping up brick block fragments and scraping flattened goombas off of the ground.
%%* ButtMonkey: Not as bad as Luigi or Dedede but around there.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: He's one of the first two to notice [[spoiler: that Dark Matter has messily deactivated Cocoon Academy's security system]]. His response? [[spoiler: Clean the mess that the monster made as he was disabling the system]].
* HeroWorshipper: He absolutely idolizes Mario, to the point of actively stalking him.
* LukeYouAreMyFather: He discovers this of himself and [[spoiler:Waluigi]]. Possibly.
%%* NeatFreak
* OriginalCharacter: His appearance is exclusive to this webcomic only.
* ThirdPersonPerson: Always refers to himself as "Eario", instead of using "I", "myself" or "me". He only uses the word "I" when he says "It is I, Eario".
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Other Characters]]
!!Kingsonnn Dededoo
A penguin who looks like Dedede and cleans clocks and teeth.
----
* DeadlyEuphemism: Subverted, he says things that sound like this (like "I'm going to CLEAN YOUR CLOCK!") but they turn out to be literal.
* ExactWords: He literally goes over to clean Kirby's clock.
* IdenticalStranger: He looks exactly like King Dedede would if he had a mustache.
* NeatFreak: Both of his major appearances involve cleaning a clock or cleaning teeth.
* OriginalCharacter: He only appears in this webcomic and is not present in the Super Smash Bros. franchise or any Kirby-related media.
* PaperThinDisguise:
** In his first appearance, he looks like Dedede with a mustache, fedora, and trench coat, and [[HesitationEqualsDishonesty the way he says his name]] doesn't help. But [[SubvertedTrope it turns out]] he really was there to [[LiteralMetaphor clean Kirby's grandfather clock]], and he greets Dedede in the street in the last panel.
** Double subverted [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/445-notinvited/ at Meta knight's halloween party]], where Meta Knight confronts him about showing up for a party he wasn't invited for and it turns out that he's actually Dedede in a costume. [[spoiler:[[ZigzaggedTrope Subverted again when it's revealed that he ''is'' Dededoo using this excuse as a way to sneak in]]]].

!!The Sun
* AccidentalMurder: He tries to happily greet the world...only to fry everyone by getting up close. He even tried to greet a flower...only to kill it by trying to get up close and friendly.
* ApocalypseHow: It ends the world by getting up close and friendly.
* ManChild: In "Sun Parties", it angrily rants about no one showing up at its parties like a kid, also destroying life on the planet.

!!Solid Snake
* AdaptationalJerkass: In the "Snake In The Grass" arc, Snake is portrayed as an egotistical womanizing jerk. This is in stark contrast with his canonical personality; if we were going by Snake as he was portrayed in ''Brawl'', he'd probably be [[TheKnightsWhoSaySquee asking Captain Falcon for his autograph]] instead of trying to steal his date.
* ButtMonkey: Very much. Also literally. [[DontExplainTheJoke His butt is his most prominent feature.]]
* CrossOverShip: Tries to hit on Samus, but ends up getting a Falcon Punch. [[spoiler: From ''both'' bounty hunters]].
* SmokingIsCool: [[DeconstructiveParody Deconstructively parodied]], [[spoiler: it reveals his location to the guards]].

!!Princess Daisy
%%* OddFriendship: With Waluigi.
* OnlySaneMan: She's one of the more normal characters.
* RelationshipUpgrade: Her relationship with Luigi started out resembling the actual Mario canon's [[ImpliedLoveInterest extreme]] [[BetterAsFriends ambiguity]]. It becomes more explicit over time. By the Christmas '12 strip, she seems to be living with him (or at least has keys to the house). And they're married with a large family in the "Mushroom Kingdom Carol" future. Inverted with [[spoiler: Waluigi, in the final April Fools comic]]. She can only take so much, it appears.

!!Captain Olimar
* BadBoss: Puts the Pikmin through deadly situations just to get back his bumper sticker. Though really, it's not much of an exaggeration from the actual games.
* ButtMonkey: His Pikmin are this as well. Olimar's gotten beaten up by Snake, and thrown off a ledge by his Pikmin. His Pikmin have become salad at one point, got the bumper sticker as mentioned above, and got blown up by Snake's explosives at one point.

!!Bug Catcher
A young Pokemon Trainer who tends to boast and challenge anyone to Pokémon Battles, while actually not being very good at them.
----
* BoisterousWeakling: Boasts about being great at Pokémon Battles when he's...well, not as great as he claims to be.
* BrattyHalfPint: He's a little kid who isn't great at getting Pokémon and battling with them...which will definitely irk him if he loses even if he doesn't throw a temper tantrum.
* {{Determinator}}: He manages to push a Thwomp a good distance just to have him fight.
%%* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep
* FluffyTamer: Though the Thwomp he tried to steal was hilariously hostile and aloof and got him caught by Bowser, when the Bug Catcher is saved by Mario and calls it a day, the Thwomp is shown silently watching him leave from a distance, with a single tear leaking out of his eye.
* SmallNameBigEgo: He claims to be great at Pokémon battles...except he's not actually good at them.
* SoreLoser: In Strip 430, he tries to defeat Red's Pokémon with six Charizards...only to lose to the actually experienced Red with six Bubble Beams from one of his own water-based Pokémon. He is left irked by this loss.
-->'''Bug Catcher:''' Man, what a cheater...
* TaughtByExperience: He tries to beat Red's team with six Charizards, but fails. Next appearance, he's taking type weaknesses into account. But unfortunately he's also [[WrongGenreSavvy travelling in the Mushroom Kingdom, which plays by different rules]].
* ThrowTheDogABone: At the end of "Home", [[spoiler:he succeeds in catching an Onix.]]

!!Ganondorf
* AllYourBaseAreBelongToUs: Subverted, but for Ganon. The people of Dream Land don't mind him trying to take over.
* AmbitionIsEvil: He teaches young Dedede that ambition is essential to heroism.
* BrickJoke: In one 2010 Christmas comic, he sings about wanting the Triforce. The next year, Tingle gives him the Triforce at a Secret Santa party.
* CargoShip: In-universe. He really seems to have a thing for the Triforce.
* ComicBookFantasyCasting: Very likely unintentional, but he looks a lot like [[Music/{{Metallica}} James Hetfield]] here.
* FallenHero: He really wasn't such a bad guy when he was teaching at Cocoon Academy.
* GoodAngelBadAngel: In his case, he has a Bad Angel and a Worse Angel.
* SlasherSmile: When he hears that King Dedede's castle is empty, thus available for conquering.

!!Sonic the Hedgehog
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Sonic's title as the Fastest Thing Alive is taken away from him when Mega Man beats him in a race by teleporting.
* ButtMonkey: Sonic runs into more trouble than Luigi, believe it or not.
* CharacterisationMarchesOn: Sonic succeeding in getting into Brawl is rather jarring considering he's been portrayed as a big loser since then.
* DadaComics: When Sonic appears, things tend to get weird.
* OnlySaneMan: Sonic occasionally acts as the straight man for his friends, who are even weirder than he is.
* TakeThat: Sonic's new year's resolution for 2012 was to suck less. WordOfGod states that he liked ''VideoGame/SonicColors'' and ''VideoGame/SonicGenerations'', but the joke was just too good to pass up (Kirby's resolution was to [[VacuumMouth suck]] more).
* ThrowTheDogABone: Sonic expects to get laughed at in the E3 2013 Review Comic, but is instead told that his new game, ''VideoGame/SonicLostWorld'', is shaping up nicely.
* WoundedGazelleGambit: He pulled one of these on Mega Man, tricking the Blue Bomber into pricking his finger and dying, thus giving Sonic a spot in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosBrawl''. Mega Man got his revenge in a later strip though.

!!Frederick
* AdaptationalBadass: Unlike the Frederick of ''VideoGame/FireEmblemAwakening'', who was simply a HypercompetentSidekick to Chrom who served as a CrutchCharacter, this Frederick is so impossibly badass that ''the entire [[TacticalRockPaperScissors weapons triangle]]'' loses to him.
* AdaptationalUgliness: He was fair-faced in his game of origin. Taranto...doesn't draw {{Animesque}} hotties.
* MadeOfIron: ''Nothing'' can dent Frederick's armor.
* PerpetualFrowner: Always depicted with an overly-serious and menacing grimace.
* SuperStrength: Frederick carries a large log into battle, and is strong enough to throw his horse at foes and perform one-handed chokes on them.
* TestosteronePoisoning: He is depicted as exaggeratedly manly [[PlayedForLaughs for laughs]].

!!Villager
* DrunkOnMilk: Has been seen downing orange juice like it was whiskey.
* StepfordSmiler: Behind that cheery face likes a jaded, cynical wreck of a mayor who has grown sick of the residents.

!!Dark Matter
* DarkIsEvil: An evil hive-mind that immediately tries to destroy its current surroundings.
* TheCameo: Not Dark Matter itself, but [[spoiler:Zero Two makes a very brief appearance in a vision when Meta Knight explains his resolve to protect Dream Land from future threats]].
* DemonicPossession: Just like what it's capable of in Dream Land. Most notably, [[spoiler:it's responsible for the creation of both Meta Knight and Crazy Hand in this continuity]].
* EldritchAbomination: Par of the course from its [[{{Franchise/Kirby}} home series]], with E. Gadd comparing it to a corrosive, demonic substance. Shortly after being introduced, it wastes no time trying to destroy the Cocoon Academy.

!!Matthew Taranto
The author and artist himself, inserted into his own comics. Seems to only appear in the occasional announcement comic.
----
* AlliterativeFamily: He, his siblings, and father all have M names.
* AuthorAvatar: Many of the comics he features in reflect his attitude and working habits, specifically, he's lazy. [[spoiler:When Master Hand appears, he's a lefty, reflecting the fact that Matthew is left-handed.]]
* ButtMonkey: Takes some form of abuse or bad luck in all of his appearances so far, [[ThrowTheDogABone except comic 416.]]
* HappilyMarried: As of comic 416.
* JawDrop: When he sees [[StylisticSuck the comic Dedede made]].
* LazyBum: In one appearance, he states that he doesn't feel like making comics that week due to it being his birthday, so he passed the job onto his brother, sister, father, and fiancee so he could sleep. Ironically, it ended up being more work trying to get them to make their comics than it did to draw some himself.
* SelfDeprecation: Usually depicted as being lazy, despite being basically the creator of the entire comic.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Expecting Another Character?]]
TOO BAD! WALUIGI TIME!
!!Waluigi
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/RWaluigi_2263.jpg]]
Waluigi is a character from the ''Mario'' game spin-offs... only his [=BitF=] incarnation is far stranger. WAAAAAA!
----
%%* AlternateCharacterInterpretation [[invoked]]
* BackForTheFinale: [[spoiler:In "Meet Me at Final Destination", Wario brings the Assist Trophy Waluigi was sealed in to Final Destination, and releases him to participate in one final brawl.]]
* BadassBoast:
-->'''Waluigi''': ''(after seeing the Phillips CD-i spirits terrorizing everything)'' Weh. You call this madness? Step aside. [[CharacterCatchphrase Waluigi Time]].
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Most of his appearances involve him being absolutely insane. However, he is the only one able to drive away the Philips CD-i sprites.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: While he certainly isn't incapable of acting maliciously, at times Waluigi's not so much evil as much as he is just mentally warped. He's capable of acting out of genuine kindness, but it ends up either heinous, disgusting, or both because of his bizarre worldview.
* BreakoutCharacter: ''The'' example for this series. It got to the point where he earned his own spinoff book, and remains the only character in the comic to receive such.
* TheCorrupter: He acts as one for Daisy in ''My Fair Daisy'' after she briefly becomes jealous of Peach for marrying Luigi, mentoring her in the art of the WAAAAAA! Unfortunately for him, it doesn't stick.
* DadaComics: The comic becomes utterly deranged whenever he takes over.
* DenserAndWackier: Compared to canon Waluigi, who's already pretty out there to begin with.
* EatsBabies: Somehow PlayedForLaughs.
* ExactWords: When he makes a color comic, it's just the purple and white that's used for all of his comics. He says:
-->'''Waluigi''': [[LampshadeHanging Everything is purple today.]] ''[[CaptainObvious Purple is a color.]]''
* ExtremeOmnivore: Books, lollipop sticks, babies, he'll basically eat anything there is and then some.
* {{Gonk}}: Played with. While he takes on a more hideous and disgusting form during his [[HostileShowTakeover takeovers]], he takes on a more humanoid appearance whenever he's sad or dejected. In general, though, he's much more cartoonishly hideous than his official counterpart.
* HorrifyingTheHorror: The Platform/PhilipsCDi apparitions are absolutely terrified of his power.
* HostileShowTakeover: Just see the trope page, Waluigi will explain from there.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Implied. Maybe.
* ItsAllAboutMe: His cover of "Peaches" is about [[VillainousCrush Daisy]] for a total of 35 seconds, before it becomes all about his love for himself, confessing to Daisy that he is the best.
* LukeYouAreMyFather: It's debatable if he's truthful, but he reveals this to [[spoiler:Eario]].
* MindScrew: He is what happens when you take a MindScrew and put it on legs.
* ModestyTowel: Depicted with one on his profile page.
* MoodWhiplash: At first, just about all of his appearances are absolutely hilarious because of his HostileShowTakeover. Then comes his birthday where no one shows up, especially Daisy. [[spoiler:And then ''Wario and Waluigi'' features everyone, including a heartbroken Daisy, getting sick of his antics and confining him into an assist trophy]].
* MortonsFork: Bring him soup he hates? Get soup in the face. Bring him soup he likes? Get soup in the face.
* NoodlePeople: His limbs can bend in unusual ways whenever he runs or picks something up.
* OddFriendship: Daisy's actually able to put up with him.
* SealedEvilInACan: [[spoiler:When the other characters get fed up with Waluigi's rampant chaos, which culminated in him and Wario hijacking their games, they seal him inside an [[VideoGame/SuperSmashBros Assist Trophy.]]]]
* SelfDeprecation: He expresses distaste for ''Brawl in the Family''... in comics written by the creator of said series.
* TakeOurWordForIt: His driving away the Philips CD-i spirits is skipped over with a panel reading "sixteen extremely traumatic seconds later".
* ThirdPersonPerson: "Waluigi hates this."
* TooSpicyForYogSothoth: Whatever he did to the Philips CD-i spirits, it was enough for the things that had terrorized the comic's characters ceaselessly to immediately double back and return to the [[SealedEvilInACan block]] they had come from.
-->'''Waluigi:''' Weh. You call this madness? Step aside. Waluigi time.
