!The Toa
[[folder:General]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bionicle_uniters_poster.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:The Toa as the Uniters]]
The main protagonists of the story that can control the elements and have no memory of they are. Called from the stars above through the Mask of Time, their destiny is to save Okoto and protect the island from various threats such as Makuta, the Skull Creatures, and Umarak.

* AdaptationalWimp: Minor case; the original Toa Mata/Nuva will have their strength halved if they aren't wearing their masks, but they are still able to fight. The Toa here have trouble so much as standing up if they lose their masks.
* BifurcatedWeapon:
** Tahu's Fire Blades can combine to become his lava surfboard.
** Kopaka's Frost Shield can split into Avalanche Skis.
** Lewa's Battle Axes can split into swords and the X-Glider.
** Gali's Elemental Trident can split into the Power Harpoon and Shark Fins.
** Onua's Earthquake Hammer can split into the Turbo Shovelers.
* BlingOfWar: Their Golden Masks
* ChestInsignia: Each Uniter's got their respective Nuva Symbol printed on their chest.
* DualWielding: Tahu, Lewa, Onua, and Pohatu.
** Tahu in particular may be the best example; when he's lava surfing, he wields his twin golden swords, and when he's not, he wields a pair of flaming BFS. Dual-dual wielding!
* HeadbuttingHeroes: Tahu and Kopaka
* ShouldersOfDoom:
** Gali has some impressive pauldron armor, which consists of the same armor used as ''chestplates'' by the Protectors.
** Onua has an extra pair of his Turbo Shovelors for shoulder armor.
** Kopaka's would make a [[TabletopGame/{{Warhammer40000}} Space Marine]] proud.
** Tahu has the same type of armor as Gali, but without the extra height.
* TrickedOutShoes
** Kopaka's Frost Shield can become his Avalanche Skis
** Parts of Gali's Elemental Trident can become her Shark Fins
** Pohatu's Stormerangs can be attached to his feet to become Jetarangs to enable fast desert traversal.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tahu]]
!!Tahu
The self-proclaimed leader of the Toa, and Master of Fire, Tahu is one of the more aggressive members of the team, as befitting of his element. As a result of his ego, he's not the most popular of the Toa, but he ultimately has a noble heart that allows him to unite with Ikir. Likewise, his self esteem isn't necessarily unwarranted, either.

* AmnesiacHero: Tahu doesn't know who anyone is or what's going on when he emerges from the impact crater where he arrived. Whether this is true for all the Toa has yet to be seen.
* AuthorityInNameOnly: Is the self-proclaimed leader of the Toa, but no one buys it for a second.
* {{BFS}}: His Fire Blades
* BornLucky: Despite a poor sense of direction, his luck tends to make up for it.
* CoolBoard: for LavaSurfing.
* CoolSword: His Golden Swords
* CompositeCharacter: While Tahu is obviously based on his G1 counterpart, he also takes elements from other G1 Toa of Fire, especially Lhikan, which is visible for example in the amount of gold he has in his design from the start. Which is ironic, seeing Lhikan was basically his {{Expy}}.
* TheDeterminator: Despite his arrogance, he definitely stands out as this, being the only standing during their battle against Kulta despite the sheer physical agony it causes him.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: His sense of superiority can garner some dislike from the others, especially Kopaka. Despite this, he's a genuine hero and the last one standing against Kulta.
* LanternJawOfJustice: The Mask of Fire worn by Tahu in his 2015 incarnation is infamous for its prominent chin. It was toned down in the 2016 design, though.
* LargeHam: Has his moments, most notably in the Web Animations.
* OffhandBackhand: Does this upon his arrival to take out a Skull Spider after taking out the rest by accident.
* PlayingWithFire: As the Toa of Fire.
* PrimaryColorChampion: The Uniter form of Tahu uses blue as an accent color, making the whole figure red, gold and blue.
* SmallNameBigEgo: Thinks of himself as the most heroic and greatest of the Toa, yet lacks the peace-making of Gali and Onua's intelligence.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kopaka]]
!!Kopaka
The Toa of Ice and Tahu's natural rival, Kopaka has a strict moral code and takes his duty as a Toa seriously, insisting on acting appropriately reserved and heroic. Despite the strictness this gives off, Kopaka will show off a far more casual and fun-loving manner when not in the presence of others.

* AnIcePerson: As the Toa of Ice.
* BarrierWarrior: Becomes this after getting his Golden Mask, though loses it after getting a new mask from Ekimu.
* BeehiveBarrier: Can generate these by raising his Frost Shield, a duty that fell to Tahu in the previous series.
* BeneathTheMask: Constantly holds himself up to a strict, noble standard and acts overly reserved, especially around others. In reality, he's actually a laid-back, fun-loving guy with some minor daredevil tendencies and surprisingly clumsy.
* TheComicallySerious: Tries to act cold and serious, even though he's a directionless klutz.
* IMeantToDoThat: How he justifies his klutziness. Putting your skis backwards? Just testing their strength. Slipping on ice? [[BlatantLies Nope, he didn't]].
* TheKlutz: Despite his cold and calculated behavior, Kopaka is clumsy, though he is quick to deny it.
* KnightInShiningArmor: His appearance as a Master definitely invokes this, with plenty of armor, a shield, and spear.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: His Frost Shield.
* MythologyGag: Subverted. He TRIES to be the same stoic as he was in the continuity. [[DenserAndWackier He's not.]]
* NoSenseOfDirection
* ThePerfectionist: Although not very good at it.
* SwordAndGun: In his uniter form.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Onua]]
!!Onua
* TheBigGuy: Both literally and metaphorically, being the physically strongest character and able to deal out plenty of destruction.
* BrutishCharacterBrutishWeapon: His Earthquake Hammer.
* DestructiveSaviour: Frees the City of the Mask Makers from Kulta's control, while also leveling most of its major structures in the process.
* DishingOutDirt: As the Toa of Earth.
* EarthyBarefootCharacter: Rather appropriately, his design evokes this look. This is more evident in the comics and animated shorts.
* GeniusBruiser: The physically strongest and wisest of the team.
* GentleGiant: In the animated shorts, Onua is the largest of the Toa and the most genial. When Kopaka and Tahu get into a scrap, Onua separates the two by lifting both of them by their heads. He gives a hearty chuckle and advises the two not to fight. Shortly after when the [[CurbstompBattle team fights the Lord of Skull Spiders individually]], he urges everyone that they need to work together.
* {{Sleepyhead}}: The underground tunnels give Onua a perfect place for sleep.
* TheSmartGuy: Surprisingly, Onua is both this AND TheBigGuy, being the wisest of the Toa and the only character besides Ekimu to realize Makuta is [[spoiler:distracting them by attacking the City of the Mask Makers.]]
* ThisIsADrill: Onua's Blazing Crystal Hammer.
* TopHeavyGuy: Onua's new design, [[https://www.facebook.com/LEGOBionicle/photos/pb.1472651449642600.-2207520000.1415645956./1511855262388885/?type=3&src=https%3A%2F%2Ffbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net%2Fhphotos-ak-xfa1%2Ft31.0-8%2F1899588_1511855262388885_2497265289370321156_o.jpg&smallsrc=https%3A%2F%2Ffbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net%2Fhphotos-ak-xfa1%2Fv%2Ft1.0-9%2F10606588_1511855262388885_2497265289370321156_n.jpg%3Foh%3D7c41b7a1582efd5aba32efaccfe059b9%26oe%3D54E5788E%26__gda__%3D1423939845_1c374fce1ce1daa2b117dbe0c7a27e23&size=1500%2C1129&fbid=1511855262388885 especially in the animation style.]]
* TunnelKing: An unusual example; he's perfectly capable of tunneling through earth, but when he was looking for Terak in an underground maze, and simply ran through the walls through the center.
* WolverineClaws: His Turbo Shovelers.
* TheWorfEffect: He's built up to be one of the stronger Toas in the first wave of animated shorts with his huge size, earthquake powers and casual man-handling of Tahu & Kopaka. Come the summer wave of animations he is easily thrown aside by a [[EliteMooks Skull Scorpio]] and the [[TheBrute Skull Basher]] easily defeats him with a single move, showing how much more powerful the Skull Creatures are.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Gali]]
!!Gali
* BewareTheNiceOnes: [[TheHeart Considered very kind and generous,]] but more than capable of some serious anger.
* CivvieSpandex: Her design invokes this by imitating a diver's suit.
* CannotTellAJoke: [[InformedFlaw Not that it ever comes up...]]
* {{Fembot}}: Downplayed. From the front, [[https://www.facebook.com/LEGOBionicle/photos/pb.1472651449642600.-2207520000.1415645956./1511855262388885/?type=3&src=https%3A%2F%2Ffbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net%2Fhphotos-ak-xfa1%2Ft31.0-8%2F1899588_1511855262388885_2497265289370321156_o.jpg&smallsrc=https%3A%2F%2Ffbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net%2Fhphotos-ak-xfa1%2Fv%2Ft1.0-9%2F10606588_1511855262388885_2497265289370321156_n.jpg%3Foh%3D7c41b7a1582efd5aba32efaccfe059b9%26oe%3D54E5788E%26__gda__%3D1423939845_1c374fce1ce1daa2b117dbe0c7a27e23&size=1500%2C1129&fbid=1511855262388885 her and Pohatu aren't much different in design]], [[http://cache.lego.com/r/www/r/bionicle/-/media/franchises/bionicle%202014/characters/screenshots%20spot%20pictures/1hy2015_cs_gali_1.png?l.r2=437637411 but looking at her from the side]] tends to show a much more feminine body compared to the others.
* MakingASplash: As the Toa of Water.
* OrangeBlueContrast: The 2016 version of Gali replaces yellow accents with orange ones.
* OurMermaidsAreDifferent: The axe blades on Gali's Elemental Trident can be attached to her feet and joined together, creating the appearance of a mermaid tail fin. She also gets this look when united with Akida.
* VocalDissonance: Due to the online shorts having everyone be voiced by the same person, she has the same masculine deep voice as everyone else. ''Journey to One'' gave her a female voice actor to avoid this.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Pohatu]]
!!Pohatu
* AdaptationPersonalityChange: Has the greatest change from his Generation 1 counterpart, being far more serious and less [[BoisterousBruiser boisterous.]]
* BattleBoomerang: His Stormerangs.
* CharacterDevelopment: Despite his hardened exterior, Pohatu eventually drops it and begins to take responsibility for several of his mistakes and actions.
* DishingOutDirt: As the Toa of Stone. He also has the ability to [[SandBlaster manipulate sand]].
* FashionableAsymmetry: His left arm is black with undecorated gunmetal armor, while his right arm is the same translucent green (which appears yellow in the CG images) as his eyes with enhanced and spiked Stone brown plating.
* JerkassHero: One of the more stone-hearted of the Toa and generally rude, harsh, and abrasive, with a tendency as the {{Stoic}}. Likewise, he only willingly unites with Ketar out of a sense of necessity and otherwise spends as much time away from his Elemental Creature as possible, being the most neglectful and strong-willed of the group.
* SpinAttack: Capable of creating dust devils, a la [[WesternAnimation/{{Ninjago}} spinjitzu]].
* TheStoic: HE'S the Kopaka, not Kopaka.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Does not like scorpions at all. Unfortunately for him, his corresponding elemental creature, Ketar, is a scorpion. [[spoiler:This comes back to bite him and the other Toa when his reluctance to unite with Ketar allows Umarak to swipe in and use the creature of stone's power to steal the Mask of Control from its sealed chamber in the Labyrinth of Control.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Lewa]]
!!Lewa
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange: Generation 1 Lewa's element is air. While this Lewa still has air powers, he is officially the Toa of Jungle, and is shown to be able to control plants.
* BlowYouAway: Despite no longer being the Toa of Air, he is still stated to have air powers.
* CharacterExaggeration: His original self was known for being rather laid back and somewhat playful, at times, but still knew how to be serious. New Lewa is the rebellious daredevil with a habit of discovering new paths and secrets, at the expense of also finding new dangers, as well.
* CoolSword: His Razor Crystal Blades and his swords in his Master form.
* {{Flight}}: With the X-Glider.
* GreenThumb: As the Toa of Jungle.
* NiceGuy: Troll and running off tendancies aside, he rarely insults the other Toa.
* {{Troll}}: He comes across as this at times.
[[/folder]]

!Others

[[folder:The Protectors]]
!The Protectors
The leaders of the six villages, they have limited control over their respective elements.
* AllThereInTheManual: So far, only the books seem to give them names; all the other media treats them merely as "Protector of [insert element]".
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: Leaders of their tribes and the strongest fighters in Okoto until the Toa make their debut.
* BottomlessMagazines: Averted; Narmoto's Elemental Fire Blaster running out of ammo after barely reducing the number of Skull Spiders present helps to justify why the Protectors need the Toa's help.
* DualWielding: Narmoto wields two Flame Swords.
* {{Expy}}: Of the Turaga, the village elders from Generation 1.
* FashionableAsymmetry: Nilkuu, much like his element's champion Pohatu, wears his rerebraces this way, one brown with spikes and one silver with extra armor.
* GatlingGood: Each one has a six-barreled elemental gun.
** BoomStick: Nilkuu's Elemental Sandstone Blaster
** ChestBlaster: Korgot's Rapid Shooter is in her chest.
** GunAndSword: Izotor's Elemental Ice Blaster
** HarpoonGun: Kivoda's Elemental Torpedo Blaster
** ShoulderCannon: Narmoto's Elemental Fire Blaster
** TheStraightAndArrowPath: Vizuna's Air Elemental Flame Bow
* HeirClubForMen: The tradition is that the title of Protector is passed down from father to son. Subverted in that Korgot is an exception to this for currently unknown reasons.
* TheMentor: Each of them acts as this for their respective Toa.
* MrExposition: Narmoto acts as this in the web animations and later the first episode of Journey to One.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Korgot is the only female Protector.
* SpiderSense: Vizuna's Sensor Tails enables this.
* TopHeavyGuy: Korgot (who is actually female) and Narmoto are a fair bit wider than the others.
%%** ChainsawGood: Izotor's Ice Saw
%%** CoolSword: Narmoto's Flame Swords
%%*** FlamingSword
%%** ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks: Korgot's Throwing Knives
%%** ThisIsADrill: Korgot's Star Drill
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Mask Makers]]
* CainAndAbel: The Mask Makers are brothers, and Makuta's StartOfDarkness is initiated by his jealousy.
* CompositeCharacter: While obviously based on Mata Nui and Makuta from the original continuity, the Mask Makers also seem to draw heavily from Artakha and Karzhani, two legendary crafter brothers who feuded. In fact, Ekimu's mask is directly derived from Artakha's Mask of Creation.
* CoolAirship: Both of them each have their personal zeppelin, complete with giant masks modeled after their own.
* {{Faceship}}: As noted above, their airships had the designs of the Masks of Creation and Control for each respective brother.
* UltimateBlacksmith
* WeaponsOfTheirTrade: They both wield large hammers as both weapons and tools.

!!Ekimu
* BigGood: One of the oldest characters in the entire series and is capable of one-shotting most of the main antagonists.
* ChainsawGood: His shield has a sawblade appearance.
* CompositeCharacter: Of BigGood Mata Nui, legendary crafter Artahka, and [[spoiler:SixthRanger Toa of Light Takanuva]].
* EleventhHourSuperpower: [[spoiler:Unlocks one using the Temple of Light in order to help the Toa defeat Umarak.]]
* GatlingGood: The front end of his hammer is this.
* GlassCannon: Defeats Makuta (armed with the Mask of Ultimate Power) and Kulta (wearing the Mask of Creation), winning each battle with a single blow. Despite this, it takes only a single pounce from a Storm Beast to knock him down and place him in mortal peril, and in his powered-up form, no less.
* GoodIsNotNice: Instead of thanking the Toa for awakening him, he immediately reminds them that they're late, and in Journey to One has an almost strict tone at times, and his interrogation of Kulta isn't warm.
* LightEmUp: [[spoiler:His powers as the seventh Toa of Light.]]
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: Both of his sets give him a shield with a sawblade for a rim.
* PintsizePowerhouse: He's no bigger than the Protectors. He's still capable of taking on the Skull Grinder and his minions.
* SpiritAdvisor: At least until the Toa awaken him from his coma.

!!Makuta
* BigBad: Created the Mask of Ultimate Power, caused the Great Cataclysm, controls all of the villains, tries to take the Masks of Creation and Control, and is the source of all the evil on the island.
* ClassicVillain: Motivated by ambition and envy.
* DrivenByEnvy: Ekimu's masks were always more popular than his own.
* EvilerThanThou: Pulls this on Umarak, reminding the Hunter that no matter how strong he is, Makuta will always be the greater power.
* EvilOverlord: The name of his alternate model (Overlord form) lampshades it.
* TheGhost: In the first year, he fills this role, only ever being alluded to or mentioned.
* LargeAndInCharge: He's the biggest character in the entire series and controls every antagonist in the story.
* ManBehindTheMan: For LOSS, Kulta, and Umarak.
* OneWingedAngel: Inadvertently, after putting on the Mask of Ultimate Power.
* SealedEvilInACan: [[spoiler:The can being another dimension, in this case.]]
* ThisIsADrill: On his staff.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Villains]]

!!Lord of Skull Spiders
* AllWebbedUp: He can spit webbing that is capable of doing this.
* BackForTheDead: [[spoiler:He survived being thrown from the bridge by Toa, only to be killed by Protectors later.]]
* BigCreepyCrawlies: As big as a Toa, in fact.
* GiantSpider: He's a massive six-legged spider.
* KingMook: Of the Skull Spiders.
* LargeAndInCharge: Completely DWARFS his minions and is unsurprisingly their master.
* NotQuiteDead: [[spoiler:He survived a fall from the bridge and was taken by his servants to the cavern, where he would be healed. [[BackForTheDead It didn't help him, though.]]]]
* WarmUpBoss: Serves as this to the Toa, as they have to work together in order to defeat it.

!!Skull Spiders
* BigCreepyCrawlies: About as big as any Elemental Mask, at least.
* CompositeCharacter: Of several creatures from the original series, including the Bohrok, Kraana, and Visorak.
* FaceHugger: They can latch on to their victims' faces in order to brainwash them.
* MadeOfIron: Blue Skull Spiders, apparently durable enough to survive a falling Onua crashing on them.
* SpidersAreScary: Duh.
* SpiderSwarm: Attacking in mass numbers and under the command of a single, massive Lord.
* SuperSpeed: Silver Skull Spiders
* TheSwarm: The animations show their numbers to be truly endless.
* XRayVision: Green Skull Spiders

!!Skull Creatures
* DemBones: Undead skeletal warriors. They even have a new CCBS "bone" shaped like a bone.
* GlassCannon: While they're able to dish out some impressive damage themselves, all of them generally go down after taking one hit.
* GlowingEyelightsOfUndeath: All of them have orange eyes.
* HooksAndCrooks: All of their melee weapons have hooks and notches on them. This allows them (and thus, [[MerchandiseDriven their toys]]) to pull the masks off of the Toa's faces.
* NightOfTheLivingMooks: With the exception of Kulta the Skull Grinder who leads them.

!!!Kulta the Skull Grinder
* AllThereInTheManual: Only the Lego Magazine and third chapter book calls him Kulta; he's known as Skull Grinder everywhere else.
* ArcVillain: The main antagonist of the second half of the 2015 story.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: The leader of the Skull Creatures and by far the strongest of them all.
* CoolSword: He wields one of the hooked blades in his left hand.
* CurbStompBattle: Gives one to the Toa, only to immediately receive one from Ekimu afterwards.
* DualWielding: Wields one of the hooked blades in one hand and his massive staff in the other.
* EnergyAbsorption: Is capable of this through his Mask Stealer Staff.
* EvilOverlord: He's the leader of the Skull creatures and effectively rules over the abandoned City of the Mask Makers.
* GhostPirate: He's the leader of a band of pirates known as the Skull Raiders and hasn't exactly aged well.
* HornsOfVillainy: Has two short horns, though they aren't anywhere near as large as Skull Basher's.
* {{Hypocrite}}: [[spoiler:Leaves Skull Basher to rot in prison for failing him, yet begs Makuta for forgiveness after failing his master twice.]]
* LargeAndInCharge: He is the tallest of the skull creatures and is their leader.
* MeaningfulName: His name means "Gold" in Finnish, alluding to his desire to take the Golden Masks of Power and how he's a pirate, a type of criminal that is iconic for stealing gold and burying it.
* {{Necromancer}}: He's able to create an army from the remains of others.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: He's an undead skeletal pirate that can raise the dead.
* ShouldersOfDoom: Huge, and covered in spikes.

!!!Skull Warrior
* FacelessGoons: Quite literally as well.
* FashionableAsymmetry: One shoulder is bigger than the other, and the leg on the opposite side has more armor.
* GatlingGood: Their bows have six-barreled shooters attached.
* {{Mooks}}: They're the most plentiful and customizable Skull creatures.
* OrangeAndBlueContrast: All Skull creatures have trans-orange highlights, but Skull Warriors have blue highlights as well.
* ShouldersOfDoom: One shoulder, anyway.
* TheStraightAndArrowPath: An unusual example. Six-barreled blasters clearly exist, but the Skull Warriors use it in a bow.

!!!Skull Slicer
* ChainPain: Wields an energy chain in one hand intended to snatch masks off.
* CoDragons: Is this with Skull Basher as one of Kulta's lieutenants.
* [[CoolSword Cool Swords]]: Wields three hooked blades.
* DualWielding: Quad Wielding actually.
* EliteMooks: He's the first Skull creature to pose a threat to the Toa, easily disarming Lewa after he splits off from the rest of the group.
* TheHyena: The Animated shorts show him laughing maniacally.
* LeanAndMean: Most of his limbs lack armour, making him seem very thin.
* MultiarmedAndDangerous: Has four arms, making him unique among BIONICLE characters with gear functions.
* SpikesOfVillainy: The few armour pieces he does have are spiked.

!!!Skull Basher
* TheBrute: He's big and he's very strong. [[CurbStompBattle He easily sends Onua flying with a mere thrust of his horns.]]
* CoDragons: Along with Skull Slicer as one of Kulta's lieutenants. However official background information states he is actually the strongest of Kulta's minions, and is given the task of guarding the gate to the Temple of Creation for this reason.
* DualWielding: Wields a hooked axe in each hand.
* HornsOfVillainy: Big purple horns that utterly dwarf the rest of him.
* OurMinotaursAreDifferent: According to the LEGO shop site he has a Bull mask. His long horns, dual axes, and overall heavy build further enforce the idea of him being an undead minotaur like character.
* ShouldersOfDoom: He's got massive shoulders due to his "bashing" function that are accentuated by the armour he wears.
* SpikesOfVillainy: Big horns, spiky ribcage, spiky shoulders, spiky weapons, and spikes on his chestplate.

!!!Skull Scorpio
* BewareMyStingerTail: Bonus points in that the webisode they debut in is almost named after this word-to-word.
* EliteMooks: They come in smaller numbers than Skull Warriors, but a single one of them is strong enough to grab [[TheBigGuy Onua]] by his hammer and throw him like a rag doll. Likewise, a pair is able to defeat most of the Toa and send one of them running.
* PowerPincers: Their tails work in this manner, rather than being stingers, allowing them to steal masks.
* RaisingTheSteaks: Undead, skeletal scorpions.
* ScaryScorpions: They're undead scorpions capable of throwing Onua around like a ragdoll and stealing Pohatu's mask.

!!Umarak the Hunter/[[spoiler:Umarak the Destroyer]]
* ArcVillain: For the 2016 storyline.
* BigNo: [[spoiler:His last words.]]
* DarkIsEvil: Born from the shadows when Okoto was created in the same way the elemental creatures were born from each of the elements.
* DevourTheDragon: [[spoiler:Is on the receiving end of this, courtesy of Makuta.]]
* DragonWithAnAgenda: Even though he currently hunts for Makuta, he does so merely out of convenience and clearly states he serves no-one but himself. After all, Umarak is an ancient evil born during Okoto's creation while Makuta is a corrupted Mask Maker. [[spoiler:When he becomes the Destroyer, though, he does a complete 180 on this view.]]
* EnergyAbsorption: Has the power to drain the power of the Elemental Creatures, as its his sole purpose.
* CastingAShadow / ShadowWalker: Fitting for a creature born from them.
* HornedHumanoid: Antlers, a first for a BIONICLE set, though they become more conventional horns as [[spoiler:the Destroyer.]]
* KnightOfCerebus: There is very little humorous about Umarak at all, and he's a rather dark character to go with the more mature 2016 story.
* LargeAndInCharge: [[spoiler:As the Destroyer, he's the second-largest character (beneath only Makuta) and likewise commands the Shadow Horde in his master's absence.]]
* LeanAndMean: Setwise, Umarak is the tallest character in the reboot thus far. [[spoiler: He loses the "lean" part when he becomes the Destroyer.]]
* LiterallyShatteredLives: [[spoiler:Shattered into several crystalline bits and the Mask of Control and absorbed.]]
* MightyGlacier: [[spoiler:Becomes this as a result of his transformation into the Destroyer.]]
* MonstrousHumanoid: Despite being humanoid overall, Umarak's antlers and borderline digitigrade legs are a striking point of contrast to the entirely humanoid Toa, serving as a reminder of his common origin with the elemental creatures.
* MythologyGag: His name translates to "Shadow Hunter", making it a spin on the previous continuity's Dark Hunters.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: In the language of the Protectors, Umarak means 'Shadow Hunter'.
** [[YouAreTheTranslatedForeignWord ...Which means that the title 'Umarak the Hunter' could be translated as 'Shadow Hunter the Hunter'.]]
* ObviouslyEvil: As Lewa puts it; "You can FEEL the evil."
* OneWingedAngel: [[spoiler: After obtaining and donning the Mask of Control, he becomes the much larger and even more bestial Umarak the Destroyer.]]
* PoisonedWeapons: His bow shoots poison arrows.
* SkeletonsInTheCoatCloset: Whilst seemingly not an undead creature as Kulta and the Skull Creatures are, Umarak's chest armour is or at least resembles a ribcage, and one of his weapons is described as a 'Bone Hunting Bow'.

!!The Elemental Beasts
* LiterallyShatteredLives: Every time they're defeated, they shatter into several crystalline remains, though this doesn't last unless [[spoiler:their masks suffer this trope as well.]]
* RockMonster: The Quake Beasts appear to be made of crystal. The rest of the Beasts wear crystal-themed armor as well but it isn't as prominent on them.
* SicklyGreenGlow: Their boxarts show them dripping with some some sort of yellow-green ooze. Transparent neon green is also a prominent part of Quake and Storm Beasts' color schemes.
** The infected masks included in the sets are partially transparent neon green.
* SuperpoweredMooks: They're Shadow Traps charged with elemental powers, with two of them being able to steal Tahu's mask with ease, and have the ability to resurrect themselves [[spoiler:unless their masks are destroyed.]]
