The fun-loving prince of the lemurs, long dreaming of the day he can become the best king ever, he finally gets his chance one day when his uncle suddenly decides to pass the crown on to him.
----
* AdaptationalBadass: In most Madagascar-related media, he is just a lazy, arrogant jerk and when something goes wrong, he seeks the help of others without doing anything about the problem himself. In this show, however, Julien has a much more proactive role and proves himself to be a pretty capable person when it comes to protecting his kingdom or simply defending himself.
* AdaptationalHeroism: An annoyance at best and antagonist at worst in other media, Julien here is still fairly selfish, but more willing to help others and do what's best for his kingdom.
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: While still little bit of a jerk, he is much less of a jerk than in most Madagascar-related media.
* AllLovingHero: Fitting his JerkWithAHeartOfGold personality, when things are only going slightly bad he may try to save himself first, but when fate of the entire kingdom is at stake and he knows it, he will do everything he can to try and save everyone ''but'' himself. He is even surprisingly forgiving towards his enemies, like with Rob and [[spoiler:his uncle.]]
* AnimalGenderBender: Real lemurs are matriarchal; WildMassGuessing has dealt with this by pegging him as [[AmbiguousGenderIdentity Ambiguously Trans]].
* AffectionateNickname: While he uses their full names more often than not, when he's feeling affectionate, "Maurice" becomes "Mo-mo" and "Clover" becomes "Clo-clo".
* BrilliantButLazy: While he'll go out of his way to avoid having to do things personally, he's usually quite effective when he has no other choice.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: For all his quirks, he is frequently referred to as the best King the kingdom has had by several characters. Not that standards were high anyway.
* CatchPhrase: Expresses frustration with, "Ugh! Just... ugh!" or sometimes, "Oh, you've got to be ''kidding'' me!"
* CloudCuckooLander: It wouldn't be King Julien if he wasn't this.
* CompositeCharacter: Has a lot of his character traits from ''WesternAnimation/ThePenguinsOfMadagascar'', but softened with some of his nicer ones from the movies. But he doesn't have ''all'' of his character traits from ''WesternAnimation/ThePenguinsOfMadagascar'' such as [[http://bitt3rman.tumblr.com/post/118041841123/the-king-julien-from-pom-universe-likes-bananas his taste in bananas]].
* CoolCrown: Julien's trademark crown. He's almost always wearing it, and the only reason he would be seen without it for an extended duration is because something truly bad has happened to either him or the kingdom.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Yes, he is still as ditzy and lazy as he always was, but as many characters found out, it's a bad idea to underestimate him. Most prominently in "Karl-Mageddon" where simply from experience with his Arch Nemesis Karl, he is able to predict Karl's scheme and prepares a counter measure for it that effortlessly thwarts him.
* DanceBattler: Although it's clear he's simply fending off and evading the fossa rather than out right defeating them, he still does a good job of it.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: It's his FatalFlaw. Once he has some shiny toy or new idea in front of him, nobody is going to be able to keep him from going all-in on it until things have begun to fall apart, often in exactly the way he was warned it could. Both his arch enemies know it, and they've pulled off multiple successful [[BatmanGambit Batman Gambits]] that simply boil down to, "Leave this thing for Julien to find, he'll take care of the rest."
* ExtremeOmnisexual: Although he is only seen engaging in romantic affairs with females, he shows plenty of interest in men as well and is thrilled when a fossa falls in love with him even though he admits he doesn't actually know how to tell what gender it is.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Sanguine - Energetic, loves attention and fun, eccentric and quite egotistical.
* FunPersonified: He loves dancing, parties and having fun in general. His idea of a perfect kingdom is one where his people do not have to live in fear and be free to have some fun.
* GeniusDitz: While he is still kind of dumb and a giant CloudCuckooLander, he is apparently the best king the lemurs had so far and has the tendency to act like a GuileHero, such as in "The Man With The Iron Booty".
* GiverOfLameNames: It's the king's responsibility to name newborn lemurs. As this is the guy who comes up with "Chair Lemurtable" as an alias, the names he gives run a similar theme of whatever sounds cool to him at the time.
* HatesBeingTouched: Which ranges from visibly flinching when someone does touch him, or outright attacking if it's Mort who tries to touch him.
* HeroicBSOD: His titular exile in "Exiled" puts him through several of these as he struggles with if he even deserves to get his kingdom back, let alone if he even can.
* ItsAllAboutMe: He still retrains this trait, although it's toned down a bit in this series.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Now with more gold; He ''truly'' loves his kingdom, but has a hard time showing it sometimes. This is best seen in the fact that he knows the names of everyone in his kingdom, but can't be bothered to remember them if he's preoccupied with whatever his current obsession is at the time. Also, he genuinely sees Maurice and Clover as not as his friends, but also his family, even if he does tend to ignore them and mistreat them at times. Even his tendency to make a mess of the kingdom on a regular basis almost always had its start in a naively self-centered line of thinking of, "I like X, therefore everyone must like X as well, so I will give the entire kingdom X so it can make them as happy as I am".
* {{Keet}}: Small, cute, enthusiastic, hyperactive, loud and fun-loving. Yeah, Julien qualifies.
* LivingIsMoreThanSurviving: His main complaint with the previous king's rule and a point he makes clear to his people at the end of the first episode.
-->'''Julien:''' If there may not be a tomorrow, then we gotta live extra big today!
* NeverMyFault: He'll almost always try to pin the blame on something bad that's happened on Maurice rather than himself.
* ParentalAbandonment: His parents abandoned him as a child, leaving his Uncle and Maurice to raise him assuming they had died.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: While he is lazy, selfish, and [[NiceJobBreakingItHero tends to cause a lot of trouble]], King Julien tries his best to protect his kingdom from danger.
* ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem: Frequently gets himself into trouble under the false belief that as king, he's immune to consequence. Ironically, the one time this is actually true, he doesn't want it to be.[[note]]The entire kingdom gets imprisoned, but have a fun time of it resulting in an awesome party he can't attend because a previous king made the king immune to imprisonment[[/note]]
* ThemeMusicPowerUp: Needs music to get truly motivated to do his best. In "King Me" that comes from a boombox, where in "The Man in the Iron Booty" a riff played on a harmonica works, too.
* VocalEvolution: His accent is much less pronounced then it was in ''WesternAnimation/ThePenguinsOfMadagascar''.
* WhatTheHellHero: While he is a master of shifting blame and smoothing things over, he still isn't completely immune to being called out on the chaos he causes from time to time.
* WhatsUpKingDude: Only slightly zig-zagged as his aggressive and highly paranoid bodyguard may just attack you for even thinking of Julien depending on how she feels, but otherwise he is very accessible to his people and frequently hosts parties for them.
* YellowEyesOfSneakiness: To fit his frequently sneaky JerkWithAHeartOfGold personality, his eyes are actually gold.

An Aye-aye lemur that serves as Julien's personal attendant. Tries his best to be the voice of reason, but between Julien and Clover's extreme personalities, it's not easy.
----
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: In particular, his relationship with Julien. It's made clearer than any other version that he tolerates Julien's abuse not just because it is his job, and not because he fears retribution, but because he genuinely loves Julien like a brother.
* ButtMonkey: Whenever Julien says he'll do something, he means he wants Maurice to do it for him instead.
* CloudCuckoolandersMinder: For as ineffectual as Maurice appears to be at preventing Julien's frequent mess ups, It's made pretty clear that without Maurice constantly trying to hold Julien back, Julien would get away with far worse and bring the kingdom to ruin.
-->'''Julien's Mind''': There should always be someone to say no to you. You know how dangerous you are when you're left unattended!
* CoughSnarkCough: Often does this with Julien, but Julien is so dense, it's caused Maurice to become incredibly unsubtle about it because Julien won't notice either way.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Melancholic - Serious, loyal, hard-working and polite, making him a {{Foil}} to Julien, who is a sanguine.
* FunnyAnimalAnatomy: He is an Aye-Aye that doesn't resemble any of the other Aye-aye characters at all. [[spoiler:This turns out to be because he is the chosen one of the Aye-Ayes; a rare beautiful Aye-Aye.]]
* NiceGuy: Maurice is generally an easy-going guy who is loyal and supportive towards Julien yet acts like the voice of reason to him when he starts acting too selfish. He is also usually polite and friendly to the other lemurs as well.
* NotSoAboveItAll: While he is always more reasonable compared to Julien, he does enjoy his parties.
* OnlySaneMan: Especially when you compare him to King Julien.
* ParentalAbandonment: [[spoiler:Abandoned by his parents as a newborn where he was found by Julien in accordance with Aye-Aye traditions.]]
* ParentalSubstitute: Most of Julien's family having gone missing has seemingly made him into this, [[PromotionToParent despite not being much older than Julien to begin with]].
* StraightMan: He usually acts like the calm and sane counterpart to Julien's crazy personality.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: As Julien's voice of reason and seemingly sole caretaker for most of his life, one might assume that Maurice is older than Julien, but they're seen attending Lemur School together and it is eventually revealed in "I, Maurice", that Maurice might actually be younger than Julien.

[[folder:Mort]]
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ahkjmort.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AndyRichter

A hyperactive mouse lemur and Julien's biggest fanboy.
----
* AbusiveParents: More grandparents as his appearing grandmother and grandfather are both awful. Mort himself also makes reference to having grandchildren and appears to be similarly bad, although it's not known how he was with children (other than he has referred to having laid eggs before). With the grandchildren he says how letting them cry it all out works with them. Then, when Maurice follows that up and asks Mort to elaborate about having grandchildren, he forgets he first mentioned them and exclaims-
-->'''Mort:''' What? Did they escape? Oh, don't let them find me!
* AdaptationalAbomination: Exaggerated. In most Madagascar media, Mort is just a weird and obsessive, but still mostly normal and fairly innocent mouse lemur. In this show? [[spoiler:He's canonically only 40% lemur and 60% bunch of other things, ReallyOver700YearsOld and has multiple personalities that are implied to be absorbed alternate versions of himself.]]
* AdaptationalJerkass: While Mort is generally portrayed as a {{Cloudcuckoolander}}, here he's depicted as downright AxCrazy. He's also more abrasive and amoral, prone to threatening people with bodily harm for angering him and vindictive to an insane degree.
* AdaptationalVillainy: Tying in with him being an AdaptationalJerkass, Mort here is a RetiredMonster, having previously been a feared pirate [[spoiler:and a MultiversalConqueror]]. He also alludes to knowing someone who can "disappear" people and doesn't deny having killed people during his time as a pirate.
* AdorableAbomination: [[spoiler:He's an immortal, soul-sucking entity... who nonetheless has the body of a cute little mouse lemur.]]
* AlienAmongUs: He claims to be from the planet Footicus Majorica. Like with everything Mort says about his past, it's a toss-up whether he actually is or it's just a delusion.
* AmbiguouslyBi: Mort has been in a relationship with many women and has even been married 11 times before, but he shows very deep interest in King Julien. Whether it's romantic or just obsessive is unclear.
* AmbiguouslyJewish: There is a flashback scene showing him celebrating Hanukkah as a child.
* AxCrazy: Mort can get surprisingly deranged and psychopathic at times. He's prone to fits of violence and rage on top of his usually bizarre behavior, and he's fully comfortable with murder.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: His morality is mostly just influenced by his love for Julien and his feet. He doesn't seem to care about anyone or anything else that much, to the point where he can become straight up antagonistic and callous towards others.
* ButtMonkey: Julien has a priority list of lemurs that should be sacrificed if the need arises, and Mort is number one.
* CartWrightCurse: Of 12 wives he says "most" died of old-age.
* CharacterFocus: Gets his own storyline in "Exiled".
* CloudCuckoolander: He is quite... weird, to say at least. It is at least partially caused by [[spoiler:the amount of alternate Morts he has assimilated and now reside as voices inside his mind]], but he's also naturally weird even aside from his bizarre fixation on Julien's feet and making wigs out of stolen hair.
* CorruptPolitician: One of his alternative personalities is Political Mort, who is excellent at using political strategies but totally unethical and even more violently destructive than the normal Mort.
* CreepyGood: Very ''ambiguously'' good, but he is so creepy it disturbs other members of the cast. A good showcase of this is [[spoiler:the episode which has him impersonate the mannerisms of Todd.]]
* CreepyHighPitchedVoice: He still has the same high-pitched, cutesy voice in this show, but because of his crazier and more deranged personality, it can become quite unsettling pretty fast. During his creepier moments, his voice sounds less innocent and cute and more straight up Jokerish.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: In "Exiled", he turns out to be surprisingly competent when the kingdom is in danger, in his... own weird way. [[spoiler:This includes somehow drinking the ocean once.]]
* DarkerAndEdgier: Is a lot more deranged than any incarnation of the character, to the point where he regularly disturbs or grosses out those around him.
* {{Determinator}}: By "Exiled" he's one of the few lemurs in the kingdom still holding onto hope that Julien will save them and in fact is the only one of the three main characters who never gives up on trying to do something to help, even if he has no idea what until well past the halfway point of the story.
* DisproportionateRetribution: One of his alternative personalities once nuked Madagascar after somehow being elected ruler because he didn't get extra sugar in his pumpkin spice mocaccino. His other personalities are understandably reluctant to let him take the wheel again.
* TheDitz: Subverted. Mort ''acts'' stupid, but he's actually quite cunning and faking it to a degree. He is, however, genuinely insane and utterly detached from reality, so he's still pretty useless for the most part.
* DoubleEntendre: Uses a lot of these.
* EldritchAbomination: [[spoiler:He's a multi-dimensional entity who sucks souls, performs impossible feats and is much older than any of the cast.]]
* EvenEvilHasStandards: During a speech of his, he instructs people to go for the men first and says how they can sell the children - but the women they will always treat with respect.
* {{Flanderization}}: Mort being older than he looks. While the original (unused) gag in the movies was going to be that Mort was simply the equivalent of an adult, here he's mentioned to be far older than any lemur should be and [[spoiler:is implied to be functionally immortal.]]
* FreudianExcuse: He was raised by his abusive grandparents who treated him horribly and taught him to follow their family's legacy of evil, and he's assimilated so many alternate Morts that its caused his mind to degrade. It's hard not to understand why he's so messed up as a result.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Phlegmatic - Incredibly loyal to Julien, as well as submissive, but mostly stays out of sight.
* HealingFactor: Thanks to his starfish DNA. He claims he grew back his own head once.
* HiddenDepths:
** Mort is an amazing artist.
** He also used to be a dreaded pirate captain, with him not denying having killed people while he was.
** He apparently knows a guy which could get rid of someone and make it seem like an accident.
** He's a great singer though his songs all revolve around King Julien's feet.
* HybridMonster: He ''looks'' like an ordinary lemur, but he's a hybrid of various different species, including bears, starfish, and ''woodchips'' among other things. [[spoiler:He's also a soul-sucking EldritchAbomination to boot.]]
* IdentityAmnesia: [[spoiler:He has forgotten a lot about himself - as especially shown in ''Exiled'' - and at times it's ambiguous how much he correctly remembers.]]
* IKissYourFoot: Becomes obsessed with the Royal Feet after they save his life from the fossa.
* InTheBlood: As his grandfather shows, [[spoiler:immortality and the ability to consume the essences of other Morts isn't limited to just the Morts of the multiverse, but also their families. As well, all Morts are apparently destined to become great forces of evil, and Mort is the only one to be reluctant about his destiny.]]
* LiteralSplitPersonality: [[spoiler:Smart Mort is one of many, them being literal as they are other versions of himself that he has absorbed.]]
* LoanShark: After money is introduced to the kingdom, Mort becomes this and winds up taking everyone else's money [[AchievementsInIgnorance because he through they were playing a board game.]]
* LoveAtFirstSight: Even before really doing anything besides introducing himself, the new King Julien has Mort's undying love and devotion.
* MadeOfIron: Takes a lot of hits without getting much damage.
* MeaningfulName: [[spoiler:Mort is essentially im''mort''al.]]
* MindHive: [[spoiler:''Exiled" reveals that the consciousness of several Morts from across the multiverse are all residing inside his mind. The main Mort is in control most of the time and communicates with them, but some can take over his body, such as Smart Mort and his own grandmother.]]
* MoneyFetish: Has one of these when Julien invents money, but this seems to be attributed solely to the fact that the money has Julien's image printed on it.
* NightmareFetishist: Mort's interests tend to be very creepy. His favorite hobbies are making wigs out of stolen hair and bathing in toenails, and he's weirdly onboard and downright ''proud'' of Julien declaring that Mort is the first lemur he'd sacrifice if the need arises.
* NoodleIncident: Several cases of this, with Mort making odd statements about his history.
* NotAfraidToDie: He's very proud of the fact that he's the first lemur King Julien would sacrifice if the need arose and rubs it in everyone's face. He's also cheerful when Mary Ann tries to eat him, even climbing into her mouth.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: It's shown several times that Mort is feigning his stupidity, at least to an extent. That said, [[AxCrazy he isn't exactly "normal" either...]]
-->'''Koto:''' My jester's clearly an imbecile. I doubt he even understands where he is.
-->'''Mort:''' ''(in his mind)'' Oh, we understand. We understand ''everything''! *''[[EvilLaugh laughs]]''*
* OlderThanTheyLook: Mort successfully passes himself off as a baby on a few occasions, including posing as Julien's son even though it has been pointed out that Mort is older than Julien.
-->'''Mort:''' I can't remember! That was like, 50 years ago!
-->'''Julien:''' How old are you?!
* ParentalAbandonment: The only references to Mort being raised at all are by his grandparents. [[spoiler:Given that Morts can absorb the essences of other Morts and neither of his grandparents turn out to be nice people, it's likely his parents got absorbed.]]
* Really700YearsOld: [[spoiler:At least 50 at a minimum, making him the lemur version of this. But, some comments imply he might be even older than that with him in a (albeit unreliable) history book as the "''Adam''".]]
* ReluctantMonster: [[spoiler:According to Grampa Mort, all Morts and their families are destined to become forces of great evil. Mort is the only one to be reluctant about this. He's still violent and insane, but he's still off-put at becoming a full-on supervillain.]]
* RetiredMonster: He was previously a feared pirate who apparently killed five people a day. [[spoiler:Morticus Khan reveals that Mort was once a MultiversalConqueror as well, but he somehow lost his memory of it.]]
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: He is designed to be as cute as possible.
* RunningGag: Has a tendency to vomit all over the place. At one point he just spontaneously does it as a distraction. There's also his obsession with feet.
* SidekickCreatureNuisance: As Julien will tell you. Mort can be useful, but he's also batshit insane and has a bizarre obsession with Julien's feet, which he frequently latches onto and tries to cuddle with.
* SpiderPeople: He can shoot web and is part spider.
* StalkerShrine: His entire house is full of paintings of King Julien and King Julien's feet.
* StalkerWithACrush: His attraction to Julien is strongly implied to be romantic and it tends to get to pretty disturbing levels.
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: Political Mort, one of his split personalities, possesses enough political acumen and emotional intelligence to get elected into a position of power. Unfortunately, he's even more violently insane than the regular Mort and lacks all of his scruples, making him much more dangerous.
* TalkingToThemself: Has a tendency to do this, which is exaggerated in ''Exiled'', leading up to a reason why this is happening; [[spoiler:There are literally different Morts from the multiverse living inside Mort all talking in his head.]]
* UnevenHybrid: There are many species that Mort claims heritage from (including starfish which he cites as allowing him to recover very well, including from decapitation). A DNA test proves him to be only 40% mouse lemur and the other 60% is a ''lot'' else.
--> '''Mort''': I'm a bit of a medical marvel. I think my father was a bear.
* VocalEvolution: His voice is much raspier here, due to both Andy Richter aging and Mort's darker characterization here.
* {{Yandere}}: Gets violently jealous over Julien and his feet.

A female crowned lemur that serves as the king's personal bodyguard. Her paranoid tendencies mostly kept in check by the former king, she gets her chance to shine when Julien promotes her to captain of the royal guard.
----
* ActionGirl: She is good at beating up others.
* AnimalGenderBender: Only male crowned lemurs are orange and black like Clover is.
* AstralProjection: In exiled she does this on a couple of occasions.
* BloodKnight: Seems to enjoy her job a little too much.
* CatchPhrase: "On it!"
* CharacterDevelopment: In "Exiled", she becomes more compassionate and calm by spending time with Sage. By the end of it, [[spoiler:she actually offered to spare Koto when the normally pacifistic Sage was close to murdering him.]]
* ClosetGeek: Likes to write speculative fiction in her spare time, but prefers to keep that a secret if she can.
* CloudCuckoolandersMinder: Like Maurice, but she is responsible for trying to keep Julien out of physical danger and saving his life when his plans get him into trouble.
* CrazyPrepared: If there's any possibility of danger or an uprising against King Julien, she will be on it.
* ConspiracyTheorist: Always coming up with new theories of conspiracies against Julien. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]], as this is her job.
* DoomedByCanon: There is no mention of King Julien having a personal bodyguard in ''Madagascar'', especially not no one so effective that fossa fear her. [[spoiler:She ultimately marries Sage and moves out of the kingdom to live with him in the Mountain Lemur Kingdom the day before Alex and the gang arrive.]]
* TheDreaded: She is so powerful that news Clover isn't in the kingdom is motivation for the fossa to plan an attack.
* {{Expy}}: Of all four penguins - she is paranoid like Skipper, quite clever like Kowalski, a little bit crazy like Rico, and has a British accent like Private.
* FieryRedhead: Has auburn fur and an HotBlooded personality.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Choleric - Passionate, determined, confident, can be psychotic, violent, and cynical.
* HatesBeingTouched: Attacks people who try to get close to her.
* HeavyVoice: In the episode "Fast Food Lemur Nation", Clover becomes addicted to King Julien's Booty-Doodle candy bars and winds up gaining a ton of weight. Her voice becomes a lot rougher to go with the extra girth.
* HerCodeNameWasMarySue: Thighsander Plunderhorse, warrior princess and subject of Clover's writings, appears to resemble her in every way. Indeed she falls in love at first sight with Sage solely on the basis that he looks exactly like Thighsander's love interest.
* MeetMyGoodFriendsLeftyAndRighty: She once refers to her fists as "Series/LaverneAndShirley".
* NotSoAboveItAll: While she does act like CloudCuckoolandersMinder to King Julien, that can only get her so far when she is such a paranoia-prone BloodKnight.
* TheParanoiac: As far as Clover is concerned, there is no problem, no matter how minor, that won't eventually turn into full-on chaos if left unchecked.
* ThemeTwinNaming: They are named after "Crimson and Clover", the Tommy James and the Shondells song.
* ParentalAbandonment: Her parents are only mentioned in passing, and the bulk of her upbringing is credited to her Grandmother Rose, who confirms that in the present day, Clover and her sister Crimson are the only living members of their family.
* PolarOppositeTwins: With her fun-loving sister Crimson.
* RunningGag: People will comment on characters having British accents, but fail to recognize Clover as having one even when she points it out.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: While she is a firm enforcer of rules, she is shown to be able to stand up and object when she thinks a rule is unjust. This seems to stem from her wishing she did this more often when Uncle King Julien was in charge.
* SignificantGreenEyedRedhead: Has orange fur, green eyes and is one of the main characters.

A chameleon with psychic powers able to read minds and see into the futures of others who serves as the king's royal mystic. Her prediction that the King of the Lemurs will be eaten by Fossa sets into motion the events of the series.
----
* FortuneTeller: With plenty of ProphecyTwist predictions.
* HollywoodChameleons: Markings on her body resembling jewelry flash colors when she is using her powers and she can turn invisible.
* MagicalGesture: Reading minds and seeing futures all involve her sticking her tongue to the target's forehead.
* MythologyGag: A chameleon is seen among the lemurs in "Madagascar".
* PsychicPowers: She can read minds as well as tell the future, but this aspect of her powers doesn't come up much.
* {{Teleportation}}: Her invisibility power clearly appears to physically teleport her on top of that, and she is recruited by Mort in ''Exiled'' explicitly so she can blink into a locked building.
* StealthHiBye: Uses her camouflage to appear and disappear this way.

----
* CatchPhrase:
** "SPRANG BREAAAAK!"
** "Coming in hot!" When appearing from off-screen
* GenkiGirl: She is quite enthusiastic.
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: A G-rated version.
* ItsAllAboutMe: She claims to have a strong journalist's integrity, but said integrity is shown to be extremely flexible based on what benefits her the most.
* MisplacedWildlife: Toucans aren't native to Madagascar.
* RunningGag: Continually crashing into things.

* BunglingInventor: His Mega Geckos all run wild until he eventually makes one that is manually driven, he builds a robot suit but forgets to install any kind of door to allow access to the controls, his rocket ship meant to travel to the moon doesn't even leave Madagascar and his cloning device simply summons alternate universe versions of a person instead of actually cloning them.
* EarlyBirdCameo: A tenrec that might or not be him appears during lemur’s meeting in the first ''Madagascar''.
* {{Expy}}: For Kowalski, being the resident genius.
* GadgeteerGenius: He doesn't just know how to use human technology, he can build elaborate machines including robots on demand.
* InsistentTerminology: While he eventually gives up on stressing that what he does is science, not magic, he does continue to deny that he himself is some kind of magical being.
* JewishAndNerdy: Has the mannerisms of this trope.
* TheSmartGuy: Thanks to him being a scientist and everything.

Julien's uncle and former King. Incredibly cowardly, he ruled the kingdom demanding all Lemurs remain quiet and hidden, lest they be attacked by fossa. When it is predicted that the King of the Lemurs will be eaten by the fossa, he plans to exploit ExactWords by temporarily passing his title on to his nephew. He returns not happy to see Julien has survived, and schemes to reclaim his throne.
----
* AdiposeRex: He is extra large.
* AmazonChaser: [[spoiler:Ultimately gives up his ambitions on taking the kingdom back when he falls in love with the massive mountain lemur Zora.]]
* AnimalGenderBender: See above.
* BigBadEnsemble: He is one of the main antagonists of the series, alongside Karl.
* DirtyCoward: After he found out that the king of the lemurs would be eaten by the fossa, he gave his crown to his innocent and gullible nephew and ran away.
* DoomedByCanon: Although his absence in the ''Madagascar'' movies didn't explicitly need to be addressed, [[spoiler:he nevertheless falls in love and abandons his desire to reclaim the crown]], presumably to assure the audience he isn't likely to retake the kingdom after Julien XIII leaves in ''Madagascar 2''.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: The instant he realizes the prophecy specifically says that the one who wears the crown will be eaten, he's handed the crown off to his idiot nephew, sentencing him to death.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: For as cruel as he is, he makes sure his sister Julienne is well off by arranging to have a constant supply of mangoes delivered to her.
* EvilCounterpart: As a previous Julien King, Julien XII represents what Julien XIII could be if he were to become an evil king. To the point where WhatTheHellHero moments directed at Julien XIII have characters point out that he's acting like Julien XII.
* EvilLaugh: He even writes it into his entry in the King's Chronicles
-->'''Julien XIII:''' [Uncle Julien] would be all "Muahahahah!" and then everyone would pee themselves!
* EvilUncle: He sets his nephew up to what he assumes is his death without hesitation.
* FurryBaldness: As another ringtail lemur, his fur markings are identical to Julien XIII, but he is missing the darker markings on top of his head.
* InSeriesNickname: Is referred to as "Uncle (King) Julien" even by characters that aren't related to him to keep him straight from Julien XIII. It's to the point where the one time he's referred to as "King Julien XII", Julien XIII doesn't immediately recognize who that is.
* LoveRedeems: See AmazonChaser.
* OneSteveLimit: An obvious subversion, as it's only natural that there would be other King Juliens before King Julien XIII.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Looks more like Julien XIII than Julien XIII's own parents.
* TheUnapologetic: "Viva Mort" shows that Julien XIII gets his unapologetic nature from following his uncle's example.
* TookALevelInJerkass: Not that he was portrayed positively to begin with, but he becomes much more vengeful and spiteful in his attempts to reclaim the crown, up to and including allying with the fossa and giving half the kingdom to them. It becomes increasingly clear that his concern was never about the safety of the kingdom as much as he enjoyed making everyone suffer.
* UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans: Life expectancy is high under his rule, but that's because he doesn't allow anyone to do anything besides hide silently in fear 24/7.
* YellowEyesOfSneakiness: Though they lean closer to red than his nephew's eyes to show his evil nature.

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/DwightSchultz

An evil fanaloka, who develops an obsession with Julien, considering him to be his worthy opponent.
----
* AffablyEvil: Sophisticated and polite despite considering himself Julien's mortal enemy.
* AwesomeButImpractical: His laser weapon can only shoot once every few minutes, though it's really only his enemies that have ever had to deal with that drawback.
* BigBadEnsemble: He is one of the main antagonists of the series, alongside Uncle Julien.
* BigBrotherBully: His older brother Bruce is revealed to be one of these in "One More Cup, Part 2", to the point where Karl is willing to work with Julien to take Bruce down.
* CatchPhrase: "...not yet, at least."
* ComplexityAddiction: He can't just kill Julien, he has to thoroughly humiliate him in the process, most frequently by getting the entire kingdom to turn against him.
* DoomedByCanon: Although his absence in the ''Madagascar'' movies didn't explicitly need to be addressed, he nevertheless [[spoiler:retires near the end of the series and leaves Madagascar with Chauncey to Florida.]]
* EnemyMine: Joins up with Julien to help him take down Koto in "Exiled" and also works with him to defeat Bruce in "One More Cup, Part 2".
* EveryoneWentToSchoolTogether: Attended Lemur School with Julien (somehow, despite not being a lemur), and was in all the same classes. Julien doesn't remember this because Karl could never get him to acknowledge his existence, even when he was standing right in front of him.
* EvilCounterpart: To King Julien; they both have an overblown image of themselves, and both make their base inside a crashed human aircraft. Karl in particular is keen to emphasize the similarity between them.
* EvilGenius
* EvilGloating: He loves to explain his plans in detail to make sure everyone understands just how clever he is.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Especially in some of his earlier appearances.
* FreudianExcuse: No one ever took him seriously growing up, so he seeks to be recognized as the greatest mind in Madagascar. His obsession with Julien seems to also stem from Julien never acknowledging him in Lemur School.
* GoodHairEvilHair: Has dark marks in his fur made to resemble the traditional evil pencil mustache.
* LargeHam: He can't help but frequently SCREAM FOR EMPHASIS!!
* MistakenForBadass: The stories Karl heard of Julien's exploits had become exaggerations of the real events, so Karl believes Julien to be far more powerful and cunning than he really is. The fact that Julien tends to defeat Karl mostly by luck or divine intervention only comes off as evidence of Julien being a brilliant mastermind.
* OffScreenVillainDarkMatter: Subverted, he's seen working a part-time job in one episode and explains he has to take several jobs in order to be able to afford his evil schemes. At one point he's even had to abandon a plan outright and sell it in order to pay off the damages he received as a result of a previous plan.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: Steps in to save Julien's life from Karen's evil scheme.
-->'''Karl:''' Julien's fate belongs to me! Not you! Me!
* RightHandCat: His pet Hissing Cockroach Chauncey plays the part of a cat.
* TheRival: Of all of Julien's rogues gallery, he plays this up the most.
* TheUnfavourite: Among his many personal issues is the belief his parents favored his older brother over him.
* VillainousBreakdown: "Karl-Mageddon" has Karl put everything into one final scheme against Julien, so [[spoiler:Julien effortlessly predicting and countering his plan]] is enough for him to break down crying.
* Vocal Evolution: His voice is deeper and smoother in Season 1, becoming slightly higher pitched and gruffer and Season 2 and becoming smooth again from Season 3 onwards.
* WeWillMeetAgain: "This isn't over Julien! Not yet, at least!"
* WorthyOpponent: To the point where he is rather graceful in defeat.
-->'''Julien:''' Well Karl, it appears you have failed, again.
-->'''Karl:''' Yes, you are indeed a brilliant and worthy opponent. Fortunately, there will always be other evil plans.

The Lemur Alliance Liberation Army, an anti-King Julien organization inadvertently started by King Julien himself. Consisting of a lemur couple, Abner and Becca, they spend their time lurking in the shadows concocting plans to overthrow the king and take over themselves.
----
* AnimalGenderBender: Becca appears to be a white-headed brown lemur, but she has the coloration of a male.
* CreateYourOwnVillain: As mentioned, Julien is the one that rallied them against him in the first place.
* DragonAscendant: For "Banana Guy Mike" (Julien in disguise)
* EasilyForgiven: Julien seems to have a hard time staying mad at them, and will trust them after an apology no matter how many times Maurice and Clover remind him how many times they've tried to kill him and they continue to be seen living normal lives in the kingdom as recurring background characters.
* EvilCounterpart: To King Julien; they appear to be incompetent at first glance, but like Julien, they can pull off a few impressive stunts themselves if given the chance.
* InsaneTrollLogic: They would rather eat whatever disgusting human garbage they can find than the tasty berries that are good for them as this act somehow sticks it to the man.
* JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope: While they initially just want to overthrow the monarchy and free the people of the king's oppression (hence "lemur alliance liberation"), they almost immediately decide it would be more fun if they overthrew the monarchy and then established themselves as dictators.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: While they seem like a bungling pair, they come about as close as any other villains to killing King Julien on several occasions.
* OddlySmallOrganization: "Army" was an appropriate name when it was led by Banana Guy Mike. In its current state, this army now consists of just two lemurs.
* TookALevelInBadass: While their initial schemes seem random and poorly thought out, they gradually become more and more competent at manipulating the kingdom to their own ends. It's discovered that this is because they have been actively studying how to improve.

----
* DoomedByCanon: Her influence making the fossa less a threat to the lemurs can't possibly last given that the lemurs are desperate for help by the time Alex and the crew show up in Madagascar. [[spoiler:Once the fossa hear Clover is leaving the kingdom for good, they mutiny against her to rally an attack against the lemurs, but her final fate is not made explicit.]]
* InterspeciesRomance: Was married to the lemur Horst even before Julien tamed her.
* MinorFlawMajorBreakup: Her relationship with Horst fell apart because he's a loud snorer.
* PygmalionPlot
* VillainDecay: While her initial appearances are as a major threat, her enhanced intelligence ultimately proves to be a good thing overall, slowly converting the fossa kingdom from hunters to farmers. By the end of the series it's even revealed she's put an explicit ban on fossa hunting lemurs.

----
* CainAndAbel: Blames Clover for her failed wedding just as much as she blames Julien, to the point where she tries to have Clover assassinated.
* CreateYourOwnVillain: Julien really should have thought his proposal through.
* TheDragon: To Uncle Julien.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Has a picture of herself with Grandma Rose just like Clover's. In "Eye of the Clover", she is revealed to have helped out Clover and Julien to avenge their grandma's death.
* EvilBrit: Crimson has the same British accent as Clover and just so happens to be one of the villains.
* EvilCounterpart: To Clover.
* FreudianExcuse: Feeling like TheUnfavourite compared to Clover, she felt the only thing she could do is embrace that and become a fabulous train wreck.
* GoldDigger: Clover accuses her of being this and only wanting Julien for his power. Since Julien manages to make a mess of the wedding by himself, it's never made clear if this was actually the case.
* KnightOfCerebus: Her being at Uncle Julien's side turns him into a significantly more serious threat to the kingdom, putting it in more peril than any other villains in the series until ''Exiled''.
* OnTheRebound: Ends up dating Sage Moondancer to make Clover and Julien jealous, even though she clearly can't stand his personality any more than Clover could.
* PolarOppositeTwins: With her serious business sister Clover.
* ThemeTwinNaming: They are named after "Crimson and Clover", the Tommy James and the Shondells song.
* VillainDecay: By ''Exiled'' she seems to no longer be working with Uncle Julien, and while still antagonistic, her goals seem to shift from wanting to kill King Julien to wanting to manipulate him into loving her again.

But this story was in fact, a lie. In reality his people are alive and well, but his kingdom is a barren wasteland and having scoped out the lemur kingdom, is eager to conquer it and claim its rich resources for his own, even if he has to take over every other kingdom in Madagascar along the way.
----
* TheBadGuyWins: [[spoiler:By the end of Season 4 he is successful in conquering most kingdoms of Madagascar, including dethroning Julien and taking his place as King of the Lemurs.]]
* BigBad: Of ''Exiled''.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: His friendly demeanor hides the fact that he is planning on conquering and enslaving everyone.
* BloodKnight: As King of the mountain lemurs, basically all he's done is have his people prepare for battle. Since it's a time of peace, he decided to just start all the wars himself.
* CainAndAbel: From what we hear, all of the darkness in Koto's heart is a direct result of bitterness over his brother. [[spoiler:This ultimately culminates in the true final battle of Exiled being Koto vs Sage one on one.]]
* CoolCrown: [[spoiler:It's ''Julien's''.]]
* CoolSword: He wields a stone sword in ''Exiled'', which is notable because nearly every other weapon in the series is a stone spear.
* EvilIsBigger: Him and his mountain lemur tribe are nearly twice the size of everyone else. This is a bit of TruthInTelevision as indri lemurs really are that much bigger than other lemurs on average.
* TheEvilPrince: According to Babak, the royal family knew full well that Koto was becoming this, but didn't do anything about it since Babak was next in line to be king anyway. But then Babak abdicated his place to the throne to chase his dreams and the rest was history.
* FriendlyEnemy: He still seems to respect the friendships he's made with Julien and crew, advising Julien "as a friend" to not try and fight back against his army, and planning on letting Clover live as his wife.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: Is covered in scars.
* HiddenDepths: Is secretly an accomplished dancer that can out-dance King Julien himself
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:Although his brother and Julien ultimately refuse to end his life, Koto meets his end shortly afterward anyway when a large statue he had made of himself collapses and crushes him.]]
* KnightOfCerebus: His introduction leads into a storyline that culminates in [[spoiler:Koto seizing control of the Lemur Kingdom, sending Julien into an exile that becomes the basis of an entire season: ''All Hail King Julien: Exiled''.]]
* ALizardNamedLiz: Indri are also known as Baba'''koto'''.
* KickTheDog: [[spoiler: Sage ''wanted'' to reunite with him and help him become a better person. It didn't work out, as it only resulted in Koto calling Sage's lunchbox, something that served as Sage's reminder of their childhood and brotherly bond, "worthless garbage".]]
* SiblingYinYang: A warmonger to his brother Babak's peaceful lifestyle.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Before he became bitter about his brother's right to the throne, he was an extremely kind and caring brother, going as far as to give Sage one of his teeth to replace one Sage lost.

A timid high-voiced golden bamboo lemur that constantly fears death. Despite this, he is appointed captain of the Royal Navy by Julien.
----
* ButtMonkey: By Season 4 he's settled so far into this role that he gets degraded by others (especially Julien) on a constant basis, earning him a new catchphrase of a confused "What the heck, man?!"
* CatchPhrase: "WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!" From time to time he'll get to take it back with a triumphant "We're all gonna live!" His tendency to become the butt of everyone's jokes has led to him frequently responding "What the heck, man!?" toward the end of the show.
* MythologyGag: The same species of lemur also named Willie appears in ''Madagascar'', whether the two are meant to be the same character isn't clear given that Movie Willie's only line of dialogue (to voice his approval of the new strangers) seems out of character for this Willie.
* TheParanoiac: Tends to panic and scream his catchphrase for no reason at all
-->'''Julien:''' Willie! Again with the dying! What is wrong with you, man?
* PersonAsVerb: Being a "Willie" has become synonymous with being quick to overreact.
* LovableCoward: Willie's paranoia manages to be entertaining.
* OnlySaneMan: His paranoid nature often makes him the first to point out obvious flaws in everyone's plans, but his constant overreaction also causes people to ignore him.

Full name Theodore Pantskin, Ted is a flamboyant golden bamboo lemur that serves as assistant captain of the Ring-Tailed Guard. Married to Dorothy, but their marriage is less than ideal.
----
* AmbiguouslyBi: He at first seemed particularly enthusiastic when around King Julien, and claimed he loved a man in uniform, but then married Dorothy at some point and happily stared at Crimson as she pranced down the altar.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: While he generally doesn't seem to get along with his wife or share many of her interests, he does occasionally show moments of genuine affection.
* ButtMonkey: Especially in "O Captain My Captain".
* CharacterFocus: Gets quite a bit in ''Exiled'' by virtue of him being the only consistent member of Julien's group throughout the entire season.
* CowardlyLion: By the time ''Exiled'' rolled around.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: As mentioned above, he is a little more explicitly CampGay in the first season, spending his first episode with major focus showing a blatant crush on Julien, before Dorothy is explicitly made his wife in the second season and his orientation a little more ambiguous.
* LovableCoward: He is Clover's assistant, but isn't nearly as brave as her. That doesn't stop him from being a pretty likable character.
* PottyFailure: Has a tendency to tinkle himself out of fear or joy.
* RunningGag: Has a tendency to call "Logic Police" on some of the zaniness that surrounds him, and stretches the metaphor a little long for everyone's liking each time, even going as far as to make himself a little prop badge to hold up.
** There's also his tendency to [[PottyFailure "fear tinkle"]].
* TookALevelInBadass: Toughens up quite a bit in ''Exiled'', leading to him fending off an army of sirens and defeating a tentacle with the help of an alter-ego named Snake.

A blue-eyed black lemur. Kind of a loner, fears change, often seen holding a beverage. Was married to the fossa Mary Ann and moonlights as DJ Glitter-Bunz.
----
* CatchPhrase: "And... I spilled it" (his beverage)
** (When Dj Glitter-Bun he will call everyone a snitch)
* CharacterTics: Often takes a sip of his beverage before, after, or sometimes even in the middle of saying something.
* {{Flanderization}}: Only seen with a beverage once in a cutaway gag in the first season. Come Season 2 and beverage is classified by Clover as a major personality trait of his, almost never being seen without one afterward and frequently showing an obsession with hydration.
* GRatedDrug: Never talks about what his beverage is, but alcohol is heavily implied in "Jungle Games".
* InformedAttribute: Clover profiles him as a loner but he doesn't really seem to be any more of a loner than any other lemur besides Hector.
* InsistentTerminology: It's always "beverage", what's in it is never said.
-->'''Abner:''' It's a simple question Horst, what are you drinking?\
'''Horst:''' My beverage is private, do you have no decency? ''(takes a big sip)''
* InterspeciesRomance: Somehow managed to hold a marriage with the foosa Mary Ann ''before'' she was domesticated by Julien.
* SkewedPriorities: Spilling or ruining his beverage is the most distressing thing that can happen to him, regardless of what else happens to be going on.
* UmbrellaDrink: Often seen carrying a beverage in a coconut cup with an umbrella in it.

----
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: When Ted develops a tough-guy split personality called Snake, she seems especially enthusiastic about the idea of being married to a bad boy and actively pressures Ted into finding a way to permanently change himself into Snake.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: While it frequently appears that neither Ted or Dorothy like each other that much, she does have her moments of showing genuine affection, such as giving him a big kiss when he turns up alive after having apparently exploded.
* MinnesotaNice: She has an obvious Minnesotan accent, uses phrases like "Don'tcha know" and is generally good-natured and polite.
* PhraseCatcher: Every time Dorothy wants to join in on what Ted's doing, Ted utters a dejected "Oh, you'll be there too? Okay..."
* SatelliteLoveInterest: She's just sort of a plainly nice person, anything else you can say about her is related to her being Ted's wife.

* OnlySaneMan: One of the only citizen lemurs that won't blindly follow whatever crazy scheme Julien has come up with.
* ParentalAbandonment: His mother was taken into human captivity when he was young, and she settled into her life in captivity without really considering that she had a kid now left alone.
* ScrewThisImOutOfHere: If his catchphrase wasn't an indication, Hector is often the first to bail out of Julien's shenanigans. At one point, climbing into a fossa's mouth is more preferable to him than staying in the kingdom.
* SourSupporter: The best he can say about Julien is that he's better than the previous kings, while emphasizing that's not a difficult thing to accomplish given that the previous kings seen have been mad tyrants.

* CompanionCube: When the closest thing he can remember to being a family turns out to have just been a family printed on a bag of manure, he decides to just embrace that as his family.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: [[spoiler:Turns out to be a highly trained sleeper agent, powerful enough to best Clover in combat. After breaking free from his programming, he's the one responsible for getting Julien to safety when the Kingdom is taken over by the mountain lemurs.]]
* ADayInTheLimelight: Gets a lot of focus and backstory in "The Panchurian Candidate".
* EarlyBirdCameo: He is gossiped about as early as the second episode, but he doesn't make an on-screen appearance until the sixth.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: He's been seen in two different weddings to two different women, but this is never brought up or made a part of his character in any way afterward.
* EasyComeEasyGo: He TookALevelInBadass in "The Panchurian Candidate", but he doesn't remember how to tap into that on demand so he goes back to being his usual self afterward.
* ParentalAbandonment: Because of his origin, he can't even remember having a family to begin with.
* WeddingSmashers: His weddings have been disrupted both by Clover punching him out mistaking his going to cut the cake as an attack on Julien and by Julien eating the entire cake during the ceremony.
* ConMan: He is sometimes shown to be involved in shady business with a shifty, defensive attitude.
* WildCard: He saved the kingdom from a missle, but was also willing to attempt extortion and rob nearly every citizen. Even as part of Julien's group in ''Exiled'', his ideas tend to be unhelpful and generally resort to killing them.

-->'''Tammy:''' Only way to stop Todd now is a stake through his heart. And even then, you ain't got a priest to do the ritual.
* KillerRabbit: Among his many talents is being able to switch to a vicious attack mode. He's even effective in combat with the mountain lemurs.
* PhotographicMemory: Tammy operates him like a robot, and part of his various talents is to commit anything to memory after reading/hearing it once and recall it on the spot. While this is useful for him to act in plays, in an education environment all he can do is recite answers by rote; he doesn't actually learn anything from what he memorizes and is unable to demonstrate the knowledge he's memorized in a conversational context.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: He looks pretty similar to Mort.
* YouAllLookFamiliar: Despite being a recurring named character, nothing about his design sets him apart from any other generic child lemur.

->'''Voiced by:''' Debra Wilson

Todd's controlling mother
----
* AbusiveParents: She is very bossy and demanding towards Todd and when the two are together, Todd basically looks like he is brainwashed by her.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed. She seems to be a parody of "Mama June" from HereComesHoneyBooBoo.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Compare to other lemurs, she is taller and significantly more overweight.
* SitcomArchNemesis: Julien doesn't like Tammy at all.
* StageMom: When the two are together, Todd doesn't even do anything besides stare blankly until Tammy tells him to do otherwise.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Butterfish]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Kevin Michael Richardson

A ring-tail lemur that is Tammy's husband.
----
Tropes associated with Butterfish:
* AscendedExtra: His distinct low voice and drawl are heard coming out of generic background lemurs in early seasons before eventually being given to its own unique character.
* CatchPhrase: "Gotta go to work!"
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: like his wife, he is significantly larger and more overweight than a standard lemur.
* RunningGag: In Season 5 he keeps assuming his son Todd is a female.

->'''Voiced by:''' Jeff Bennett

A nomadic Indri lemur that lives with nature. Clover's one-time boyfriend sort of but not really, he drifts in and out of the kingdom from time to time.
----
* ActualPacifist: He grows out of it a bit in ''Exiled'', but even then he has it so bad that hitting his RageBreakingPoint just makes him [[HeroicBSOD shut down]] instead because he's just ''that'' scared of hurting people.
* ALizardNamedLiz: His actual birth name is Babak. Indri lemurs are also known as '''Babak'''oto.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: He may be a CloudCuckoolander, but his first appearance has him succesfully fight off Clover, the best fighter of the lemur kingdom. Also, as some episodes in "Exiled" show, angering him really isn't a good idea
* BrainlessBeauty: Sage is muscular, has a head full of soft blond hair, Clover, Xixi and the crocodile princess find him attractive and he just so happens to be incredibly dense.
* CharacterDevelopment: In "Exiled", he becomes more responsible thanks to his time spent with Clover and is revealed to be more intelligent than she gave him credit for. [[spoiler:By the end of it, he decides to become the king of mountain lemurs.]]
* CloudCuckoolander: He's extremely eccentric, has a tendency to give non-answers to questions and is clearly not all there and can have trouble following a conversation as a result.
* DefectorFromDecadence: [[spoiler:Abandoned his throne as king of a tribe of warrior lemurs to pursue his nomadic life.]]
* FirstGuyWins: [[spoiler:He's the first crush Clover is shown to have in the series, and despite a rocky start, they eventually fall in love and get married in the finale.]]
* GentleGiant: He is fairly pacifistic and friendly despite his big, muscular build. That said, he CAN fight... he just prefers not to.
* GranolaGirl: A male example.
* HappyPlace: Prefers going here to deal with extreme pain over medication.
* HeroicBuild: Making him massive relative to a normal lemur and stand out to his brother and the rest of the mountain lemurs, who all have a far more rounded build.
* MartialPacifist: He only fights when he has to defend himself. Otherwise, he is incredibly pacifistic.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Not only does his massive build set himself apart from other lemurs, he also doesn't really fit in with his own people. With his light fur and long tail, The only thing that would indicate that he's an indri is that his brother is one and his birth name is derived from an alternate name for indri.
* PecFlex: He does this at times.
* RelationshipSue: Subverted. He reminded Clover of one from her fanfiction, however they turned out to be incompatible. [[invoked]]
* SiblingRivalry: His hate for his brother is so strong, he acts extremely uncharacteristically angry and aggressive around him, going as far as to start a fight.
* TheUnpronounceable: His "true" name is a series of random screams. He gives other people similar "true names".
* WhatTheHellHero: Gets one from Clover when his backstory can essentially be summed up as [[spoiler:Koto becoming the huge evil superpower he is solely because Sage was unwilling to accept the responsibility of being king.]]

A random pineapple Masikura gave to Julien to be his interim spiritual adviser so she could take a vacation. After ascending to a higher plane of existence, it occasionally returns to give Julien advice, but usually just because it has gotten into some kind of debt.
----
* AscendToAHigherPlaneOfExistence: If he was not already there. It being ambiguous if the being really is a somehow sentient pineapple that multiple characters meet or more something else taking on AFormYouAreComfortableWith.
* TheGamblingAddict: Seems implied given that every time it shows up it's related to gambling. It even shows up to Clover to help her get over her HeroicBSOD solely because it has a lot of money bet on her winning her upcoming fight.
* MagicFeather: Its function when it was "alive".
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: His voice is modeled after Creator/MorganFreeman's.
* SpiritAdvisor: Its function, appearing with other fruits.
* TrappedByGamblingDebts: Every time it shows up to aid Julien, its because it has gotten into some kind of debt and helping Julien apparently helps pay that off.

[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ahkjrob.jpg]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/DavidKoechner

A flashy coquerel's sifaka lemur who was Julien's second best friend (after Maurice) growing up and the only party animal bigger than him. Exiled from the kingdom by Uncle Julien, he returns upset that Julien didn't come with him. After his initial defeat left his face disfigured, he would have been happy to never see Julien again but returned with a vengeance when Julien decided to open their dream nightclub "Club Moist" by himself. The two eventually settle their differences and Julien gives Rob a job as Nurse Phantom.
----
* AffectionateNickname: "Julie" for Julien, notably making him one of the very few characters in the show to address the king on extremely familiar terms on a regular basis.
* CharacterTics: Before his disfiguration, his face would often unnaturally and audibly tighten, widening his smile seemingly uncontrollably. Afterwards, the opposite is the case; his lip sags requiring him to frequently slurp it back into place. As of ''Exiled'', his lip is more stable, but he drools resulting in the the same sound tic of slurping it back in.
* ConvenientComa: Seems to have an addiction to general anesthetics, as he is often seen in a medically induced coma.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: After being defeated twice, he agrees to work as a nurse in Julien's new hospital.
* EvilCounterpart: To Julien. While Julien's parties are safe for the most part, Rob's parties push people to party themselves to death.
* {{Expy}}: Is one for the Phantom of the Opera in his second appearance. In addition, his disfigurement is more pronounced on half of his face, not unlike Two-Face.
* GrandTheftMe: His primary goal is to steal Julien's face. Once by plastic surgery the next by trying to switch brains.
* TheGrotesque: His face after his plastic surgery is damaged.
* HeelFaceTurn: He first appears as an antagonist, but becomes more of a neutral and even helpful character later on.
* JumpingOutOfACake: He did this as a prank for Uncle King Julien's birthday and got himself banished from the kingdom as a result.
* LoveTriangle: A platonic example, Rob is said to have constantly picked on and tormented Maurice as he saw Maurice as a rival for Julien's friendship.
* NonstandardCharacterDesign: Before his disfiguration, he was one of the only lemurs to have white sclerae as opposed to sclerae that match his eye color. Afterwards his eyes are still mismatched, featuring a blue-green iris and yellow sclerae
* OlderThanTheyLook: Pre-disfigurement he looks to be about Julien's age, afterwards he claims his disfigured appearance makes him look his real age. In "King Julien Superstar" he implies that he's ''40''.
* ProphetEyes: The damaged half of his face has one of these eyes.
* RunningGag: Any mention of his and Julien's old band, LLT Double L will be followed up by a flashback ("Lemurs Love the Lemur Ladies!") that happens so quickly, it appears to physically disorient any background characters present.
* SecretHandshake: An elaborate dance that ends with him and Julien intertwining their tails and bumping rumps.
* StepfordSmiler: In the sense that his plastic surgery has rendered his face so stiff that he is literally incapable of expressing sadness.
* SympathyForTheDevil: Once his plastic surgery is damaged, allowing him to actually express sadness, he comes off less as AffablyEvil and more genuinely upset and hurt that his best friend abandoned him.
* UncannyValleyMakeup: His excessive plastic surgery had left his face extremely stiff.
* WhatTheHellHero: Both of his attacks on Julien stem from this; the first time he is upset that Julien never chose to run away with him when he was exiled, and the second time he is upset that Julien went and opened their dream night club without him.

[[folder:Doctor S]]
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ahkjdrs.jpg]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Jeff Bennett

A cobra that works as Rob [=McTodd=]'s personal plastic surgeon. Since he doesn't have a license to practice in a hospital, he practices medicine OUT OF A CAVE!! Needing a hospital, Julien hires him to be the kingdom's official doctor.
----
* BackAlleyDoctor: "Technically you require a medical license to call yourself a doctor, but the medical society overlooked one thing: You don't need a license when you operate OUT OF A CAVE!!"
* CatchPhrase: "...OUT OF A CAVE!"
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Like Rob, after being defeated twice, he agrees to work as a doctor in Julien's new hospital.
* LargeHam: Has a flair for the dramatic, if his catchphrase was any indication.
* MadScientist: Acts like a traditional one, particularly when he tried to swap Julien and Rob's brains. Even after going "legit", he still seems to have a fondness for questionable practices.
-->'''Julien:''' Doctor S resurrected a long-dead plague?\
'''Rob:''' We contained it before it reached the mainland!
* MisplacedWildlife: He's a king cobra (an Asian snake) that somehow ended up living in Madagascar (an African island).
* SpeciesSurname: Assuming "S" is for Snake.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: His misdiagnosis of Julien having only a week left to live nearly leads to the downfall of the kingdom and Julien dying for real.

[[folder:Princess Julienne and Prince Barty]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AnjelicaHuston (Julienne) and John Michael Higgins (Barty)

King Julien's posh, stuck-up parents, and Uncle Julien's sister and brother-in-law. Assumed dead by the kingdom, they have actually been living in a private condo. They return to the kingdom after Julien's disappearance as their monthly supply of mangoes has been interrupted as a result of his disappearance and are convinced to serve as acting King and Queen while Julien is gone.
----
* CharacterDevelopment: Initially, King Julien has to use his authority as king to force them into acting like good parents, but they start to show some genuine affection for their son leading to them leaving back for their condo on good terms. By the time they appear again they play an active role in figuring out what's going on and saving their son from one of Uncle Julien's schemes.
* FamilyThemeNaming: While all the men in the Julien family are named Julien, it seems all the females are named Julienne.
* FurryBaldness: The lighter patch of Barty's fur extends up to the top of his head in a way that resembles a receding hairline.
* HatesBeingTouched: Barty even keeps a Touching Stick on him so he can avoid having to touch others. Unfortunately for them, Julien resists their attempts to avoid getting a big hug.
* InfiniteSupplies: Have been enjoying a large shipment of mangoes every month set up by Uncle King Julien and aren't happy when it is interrupted by a mango shortage.
* ItRunsInTheFamily: A lot of their character traits are shared with Julien, they just don't have any his nicer qualities, making them both come of as extremely selfish and stuck up.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Whenever they show up, it's solely to make sure their mango allowance is safe, even though in both situations, their son is or has been in grave danger.
* MaliciousMisnaming: Constantly calling Maurice "Mark".
* ParentalAbandonment: Moved out of the kingdom leaving their son behind at a seemingly very young age.
* ParentalNeglect: They decide to just move out of the kingdom and abandon their child son, who would have assumed they were dead if Maurice hadn't lied to him. They don't even care that Julien is missing and potentially dead when they arrive, nor do they even remember his name.
* ReportsOfMyDeathWereGreatlyExaggerated: Assumed to have been killed by the fossa before their sudden reappearance.
* UpperClassTwit: They enjoy all of the privileges of being royalty, while having no interest in actually ruling.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Hans]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/BillFagerbakke

The kingdom's star athlete and a favorite to win bring home the gold at the Jungle Games.

Or at least he was until a tragic accident claimed his life. Not letting something as trivial as death get in the way, King Julien has Doctor S revive Hans into a shambling mess. Having formed a friendship with Mort, Hans lives his life on the run from Doctor S who wants to use him in experiments. By ''Exiled'' he's settled down with a wife and two kids (all also zombies).
----
* CameBackWrong: He is for all intents and purposes now a zombie.
* DeathByIrony: Won himself so many trophies due to his physical prowess that he died when they all fell on him.
* LimitedWardrobe: Even after the games are done, he's never seen out of his track and field attire.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Even with his emaciated body, his chest is larger than most lemurs, suggesting he may have had a HeroicBuild when he was alive.
* OrganAutonomy: His limbs often detach themselves and are capable of moving on their own. Mort is able to find him in ''Exiled'' by having Hans' arm lead him to Hans' body.
* RememberTheNewGuy: He is introduced as if everyone but Clover already knows him. His absence is hand waved with him always training, but when he's found dead it is suspected that he might have been dead for years.
* TheyWouldCutYouUp: Hans doesn't stay around for too long as Doctor S is interested in using Hans in further experiments.
* TrueCompanions: He adores Mort and would do just about anything for him, which includes being ready to abandon his family to go on an adventure with Mort until his wife convinces Mort Hans should stay.
* TheUnintelligible: All he can do is scream.

[[folder:Jarsh-Jarsh]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/JBBlanc

A mudskipper that was Sage's mentor that taught him all he knows about peace. Making his first appearance in ''Exiled'', Clover turns to him hoping for help to defeat Koto. He tends to barf mud everywhere, because that's what he does.
----
* HermitGuru: Lives in a temple on the tallest mountain on the island.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: He actually is pretty wise, but that can be hard to see when he spends most of his free time flailing randomly and barfing mud.
* PokemonSpeak: When he's acting dumb all he says is his name.
* RunningGag: Whenever anyone mentions how wise Jarsh-Jarsh is, it cues an immediate DescriptionCut to Jarsh-Jarsh acting dumb.
* SecretTestOfCharacter: He does this to Clover and Sage on several occasions. When they first meet, he plays dumb with Clover to test her patience.

A female indri lemur who was a guard that Mort seduced as a distraction when trying to free the kingdom from Koto's control. She ultimately ends up marrying him and the couple live together for a good portion of the last season.
----
* DoomedByCanon: Mort clearly has no wife in the Madagascar movies, so it was clear their relationship wasn't going to be a long-lasting one.
* GuestStarPartyMember: As a result of her marrying Mort at the end of "Exiled", she becomes a citizen of the kingdom, appearing frequently next to Mort, much to his annoyance.
* {{Hammerspace}}: She has a pouch that formed in her armpit as a result of an old battle wound she is capable of fitting full-grown lemurs into.
* LadyLooksLikeADude: She's a tall, muscular indri with a deep voice.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Andy Fairfax]]
->'''Voiced By:''' Deidrich Bader

A shady, brazen bat who sells merchandise on commercial breaks on Xixi's show.
----
* ConMan: Andy has used flattery and fear to coerce people into keeping his scorpions, and he claims to love the poorly educated, since they mean money in his pocket.
* FiveFingerDiscount: Andy, along with Pancho, will not only con, but they will also outright break into houses and steal.
* BoomerangBigot: He told Clover she had a funny accent and asked her where she was born, but he himself has a New York accent.
