Outside of the laws and jurisdictions in Zemuria lie many mercenary groups, who take morally grey contracts and participate in wars and terrorist operations for a living. These groups are known as '''jaeger corps''', and one should be extremely careful upon meeting them in public. Many groups exist thoroughout the continent, but a few of them stand out with a great military might and many resources.
----

[[foldercontrol]]

!General jaeger tropes:
* FriendlyEnemy: As rival corps can be enemies one day and allies the next, this is the general stance they tend to take towards each other.
* MixAndMatchWeapon: Elite jaeger corps seem rather fond of these, with even some rank and file using certain types such as a combination machine gun and {{BFS}} and if a major character has one, they're usually affiliated with a jaeger corps.
* PrivateMilitaryContractors: Jaeger corps tend to vary between the classic mercenary companies or corporate mercenary folds and are typically dealt with as antagonists. They traditionally have an intense rivalry with the [[AdventureGuild Bracer Guild]] due to the conflicting nature of their line of work (Bracers are independent warriors dedicated to helping and protecting civilians).
* PunchClockVillain: Usually play the role of antagonist, but aside from a few notable exceptions it's always made very clear that they're only there to do their job and collect their paycheck.
----

!Jester

[[folder:Lorence Belgar]]

[[folder:In General]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/red_constellation.png]]

One of the most powerful jaeger corps to ever walk Zemuria. Their origins can be traced back to the Dark Ages, where they were known as "Orlando's Berserkers."
----
* BadassFamily: The Orlando family has held leadership of the corps for generations going back to the Dark Ages.
* BarbarianTribe: The Orlando family had their origins in the Dark Ages as one, the "Orlando Berserkers".
* BloodKnight: While other Jaeger corps are professionals who are OnlyInItForTheMoney, the Red Constellation's membership enjoys bloodshed and violence for its own sake.
* ColorMotifs: Red, denoting their [[PrivateMilitaryContractors profession,]] the [[RedIsViolent temperament of its leadership]], the [[FieryRedHead hair color of the family,]] and their status as [[LawOfChromaticSuperiority the strongest mercenaries on the continent]].
* CoolAirship: Gains the Beowulf, a deadly combat airship in ''Azure'' [[spoiler:as part of their contract with Dieter Crois]] which they put to use to deadly effect.
* CovertGroupWithMundaneFront: They own the business Crimson & Co. as a front for their organization, managing several luxurious clubs and hotels such as the Neue Blanc club in Crossbell to fund their missions and gain access to cutting edge weapons and equipment.
* ElitesAreMoreGlamorous: One of the most powerful and well equipped jaeger corps in the series with access to some of the most cutting edge equipment. They are also stated to be rather wealthy, as it's stated several of their missions charge fees into millions of mira, with their contract in ''Azure'' to [[spoiler:act as Chancellor Osborne's security detail during the trade conference]] netting them ''100 million'' mira.
* LawOfChromaticSuperiority: One of the most powerful jaeger corps in the continent, and their uniform is bright red.
* ScaryScorpions: Their corps insignia is based on the Scorpio constellation, and they are one of the deadliest jaeger corps in the setting.
* TrainingFromHell: Cedric notes that the Red Constellation's training regimen is much more intensive than the Main Campus's.

-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/TetsuInada
-->'''Appearances''': ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsToAzure Azure]]''

The second-in-command of the Red Constellation, under his older brother Baldur. A hulking man who towers over the battlefield with his twin axes, he is hired for a job in Crossbell during ''Azure''. However, his main reason for accepting involves his nephew [[Characters/TrailsSeriesCrossbellSpecialSupportSection Randolph]]...
----
* ActionDad: A dark example, as he was the one who trained his daughter Shirley so that she would follow in his footsteps as a jaeger.
* BadassBoast: Belts out a pretty forceful one towards Randy and the SSS during their final battle.
-->'''Sigmund''': Now... Prepare to taste steel. Behold the twin axes of the Scarlet Ogre--he who rampages across the fields of war and devours all in his path!
* BadGuysDoTheDirtyWork: He and the Red Constellation end up slaughtering most of the ILF troops who tried to attack the Trade Conference in Chapter 2 of ''Azure'' as they were about to escape from the SSS.
* BaritoneOfStrength: Creator/TetsuInada gives him a deep and powerful voice befitting his combat prowess as the commander of one of the strongest PrivateMilitaryContractors in the setting.
* BattleAura: Emits a crimson one when he gets serious.
* BloodKnight: You can see where Shirley gets it from.
* BodyguardingABadass: His contract to act as Osborne's security detail during the Trade Conference is revealed to be this in hindsight, as ''Cold Steel IV'' shows that [[ActionPolitician Osborne]] is more than strong enough to have dispatched the terrorists himself had he decided to and possibly a match for Sigmund himself.
* TheBrute: His job among the ''Azure'' antagonists is to bring some extra muscle. [[spoiler:He's personally more comfortable in either this role or TheDragon instead of being TheLeader of the corps, only taking it due to his brother's death and Randy's absence. The main reason he took the Crossbell job was so he could have the opportunity to persuade his nephew to take over the leadership of Red Constellation]].
* BrutishCharacterBrutishWeapon: He's a [[BloodKnight bloodthirsty mercenary]] who associates himself with an ogre that acts as TheBrute amongst the main villains of ''Azure''. Fittingly, he fights with a pair of large battle axes.
* ColorCodedCharacters: Just like his nephew, he's heavily associated with the color red, which matches [[BloodKnight his temperment]], the color of his hair and weapons, the name of his corps, and his title as the ''Scarlet Ogre''.
* DeathFromAbove: His S-Craft is called Crimson Fall; you get one guess what it involves.
* DecliningPromotion: He came to Crossbell to force Randy to take over as commander of the Red Constellation, believing his nephew to be a better fit for the role than himself or Shirley. By the final confrontation with him, he's given up on persuading Randy and is willing to take the mantle of War God for himself... ''after'' killing Randy.
* DiplomaticImpunity: Ends up slaughtering most of the ILF members who attacked the Trade Conference. The SSS are horrified, but are unable to do anything about it since he and the Red Constellation had been hired by the Imperial Government to act as Chancellor Osborne's security detail for the conference, and Crossbell's charter effectively demands its government employees defer to any authority from the Empire or Republic.
* DoubleWeapon: Near the end of his S-Craft, ''Crimson Fall'', he connects his two axes by the hilt into a double bladed polearm before striking his enemy.
* TheDreaded: When the SSS find out about him and discuss how to deal with him with the Bracer Guild, they ask [[MasterSwordsman Arios]] how strong Sigmund is compared to him. Arios' response? A clash between the two of them could go ''either way''. He proves him right.
* DualWielding: Sigmund fights with two [[{{BFS}} enormous axes]].
* DubNameChange: His nickname in the original Japanese version, "Ogre Rosso", was changed to "The Scarlet Ogre" in the official localization.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: He is introduced watching an incoming train and after it passes, reveals that he was able to count exactly how many people were sitting in the passenger cars as it sped past. Then he leaves and, after a short walk down the path, your party sees the freshly slaughtered monsters [[AlreadyDoneForYou that you were sent out to eliminate]].
* EveryoneHasStandards: As revealed in ''Cold Steel IV'', he has no problems letting Shirley be a jaeger but underage smoking and drinking? Now that's something he'll put a stop to. Gareth even forbids Shirley from partaking, on Sigmund's orders.
* EvilUncle: He's Randy's uncle and a bloodthirsty mercenary who ends up working alongside the main villains of ''Azure'' so that he can force his nephew back into the Red Constellation after he tried to put his bloody past behind him, whether he likes it or not.
* EyepatchOfPower: He wears an eyepatch over his right eye, and is a veteran jaeger.
* GeniusBruiser: He may not be interested in holding long discussions on political philosophy or the underpinnings of orbments, but he's not dumb muscle by any stretch of the imagination.
* GoodParents: To Shirley. Well, as "good" as a bloodthirsty AxCrazy maniac can be, anyway.
%%* EvilLaugh: Lets out one whenever he's getting thrilled during a fight, and when the IBC building explodes.
* FieryRedhead: Bright redhead, and a total BloodKnight.
* HandicappedBadass: The loss of his eye don't seem to hinder him much. He will even use his axes as ranged weapons with excellent precision despite the implicit handicap.
* LargeAndInCharge: He's the vice commander of the Red Constellation, he's ''huge'', and all of it is muscle. [[spoiler:And the "vice" bit was only true until Baldur died, now he's ''the'' Commander]].
* LimitBreak: His S-Craft, Crimson Fall, has him throw his axes through his opponents before leaping up into the air, catching the axes, joining them together into a single poleaxe, and dropping down on his foes with enough force to make the ground erupt.
* ManlyFacialHair: Has a beard to go along with his intimidating appearance.
* MurderIsTheBestSolution: When Dieter rebukes him for failing to prevent Speaker [=MacDowell=]'s escape, following which he openly starts challenging the legitimacy of Dieter's presidency, Sigmund does accept responsibility, but also points out that if he'd had his way, he'd have just straight-up murdered everyone who opposed Dieter's plans. Dieter immediately shoots this down, [[PragmaticVillainy pointing out that they need KeA's cooperation]].
* MyRulesAreNotYourRules: He has a Craft called Ogre Cry which is a superpowered version of Randy's War Cry. It not only does it grant him a full 200 CP, but also buffs his Strength stat without sacrificing any of his HP to perform. To say this move is cheap would be an understatement. The fact that he always follows it up with a now-buffed [[LimitBreak Crimson Fall]] just makes it worse. Justified, as Sigmund has been on battlefield for way longer than Randy.
* NoMrBondIExpectYouToDine: Invites Randy (along with Lloyd and Wazy when they tag along) to the Neue Blanc club and offers them some food and drinks while demanding Randy return to the Red Constellation.
* OneHandedZweihander: Dual wields a pair of axes on one hand, each of which are as long as he is tall.
* OneManArmy: His first appearance has Lloyd and the rest of the SSS find him walking away from a herd of monster corpses. He then effortlessly dispatches the entirety of Heiyue's Crossbell branch during the Red Constellation's attack on Crossbell, when they had been giving his men some trouble, before utterly manhandling the SSS in front of the IBC.
* OutOfFocus: Despite ''not'' dying after the showdown in the [[spoiler:Azure Tree]], he never shows up onscreen in future installments, only alluded to every now and then by his daughter or other members of Ouroboros. This is jarring as he is the most powerful jaeger currently alive ([[spoiler:after the Jaeger King's temporary revival ends, anyways]]).
* PrivateMilitaryContractors: The Orlando family are the leaders of the Red Constellation, the most powerful and feared jaegers in western Zemuria. The only group that could rival them were Zephyr, and they disbanded with their leader's death.
* PrecisionGuidedBoomerang: He can throw his axes like boomerangs.
* RankScalesWithAsskicking: Second-in-command turned commander of the deadliest jaeger corps on the continent, and to be expected, is an absolute beast on the battlefield the SSS barely survive against.
* RedBaron: "The Scarlet Ogre." Takes up his late brother's title of "The War God" after taking up command of the corps.
* RedIsViolent: Has bright red hair, is the leader of the Red Constellation, and known as "The Scarlet Ogre", and is an out and proud BloodKnight.
* SimpleYetAwesome: While others jaegers like to use sophisticated weapons allowing both close and ranged combat, Sigmund simply use a pair of axes.
* SoProudOfYou: [[spoiler:Says this to Randy on behalf on his father after his defeat in the Azure Tree.]]
* SpinAttack: His ''Tempest Rage'' Craft has him spinning in place while striking the enemy with his axes.
* SuperSenses: His EstablishingCharacterMoment amounts to him correctly counting the exact number of people inside an Erebonian train as it passed.
* ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks: He throws his axes at his enemeies in his ''Haken Throw'' Craft and at the start of his [[LimitBreak S-Craft]], Crimson Fall.
* TimeLimitBoss: What makes the first fight against him in ''Azure'' '''really''' frustrating: if you want all the bonus DP, you have to defeat him in under five minutes (real time) when you are severely underlevelled relative to him. On New Game Plus, this is easy because you'll have those levels but on a first playthrough, you won't. Good tactics will get you the bonus for taking him down to 50% health but to get all the way, you need a very specific strategy and a lot of advance preparation.
* VillainHasAPoint: When Lloyd calls him out on slaughtering the ILF members at Orchis Tower, Sigmund just brushes it off and claims that it wouldn't have happened in the first place if the SSS had done their jobs and caught them first. None of them are able to argue the point.
* WeCanRuleTogether: One of his primary motivations in ''Azure'' is to convince Randy to succeed his deceased father as the rightful heir to the Red Constellation, to the point that he allows him, Lloyd and Wazy free entry into his front establishment just so he can make the offer to Randy's face. Randy, for his part wants nothing to do with the Red Constellation and considers Sigmund's overtures to be a form of psychological torture. [[spoiler:In the Azure Tree, Sigmund outright says that after taking leadership, Randy could even use the Red Constellation to defend Crossbell however he likes, which the party members call out as using Crossbell as a bargaining chip. Randy's final refusal is what triggers the ensuing BossBattle.]]
* WorldsStrongestMan: Sigmund ''was'' implicitly the third-strongest jaeger in western Zemuria behind Baldur and Rutger, but following the [[MutualKill simultaneous deaths]] of the other two strongest jaegers, that leaves Sigmund as the new strongest by default.

A brigade commander of the Red Constellation, she is Sigmund's daughter and Randy's younger cousin. Her combat prowess is exceptional, and she is feared throughout western Zemuria as "Bloody Shirley."
----
* ACupAngst: Angst probably isn't the best word to describe it, given that devil-ish smile, but Shirley's justification for [[SkinshipGrope grabbing Elie]] in ''Azure'' is jealousy of her large breasts.
* AmbiguouslyAbsentParent: While her father is clearly shown in the games, no mention is given to her having a mother.
* AmbiguouslyBi: In contrast to how this trope usually applies, her same-sex attraction is aggressively blatant while her opposite-sex attraction is only loosely implied; she openly claims to be "way more into girls", but she also flirts with and molests Lloyd during ''Azure'' and develops unusual feelings for [[spoiler:Cedric]] by the time of ''Cold Steel IV''. She admits to not being entirely sure what the nature of these feelings are, though she assumes that it's [[LikeBrotherAndSister sisterly affection]].
* AxCrazy: How crazy is she? Her first thought at seeing the newly unveiled Orchis Tower is "Can we blow it up?". Also, her nickname is ''[[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Bloody Shirley]]'' and her Crafts include such charming names as Bloody Cross, Blood Storm, and Death Parade.
* BifurcatedWeapon: Her weapon, Testa-Rossa, serves as a machine gun, a chainsaw, and a flamethrower, all in one package. [[spoiler:It's made by the Black Workshop as revealed in ''Cold Steel IV''.]]
* BladeLock: Engages in a bladed battle with Randy during his one man assault on the Red Constellation in Mainz near the end of Chapter 3 of ''Azure''. She briefly overpowers him, before [[WreckedWeapon cutting through his Berserker]] by activating Testa-Rossa's [[ChainsawGood chainsaw function]].
* BloodKnight: The youngest of a family of Blood Knights.
* TheBusCameBack: Reappears in ''Cold Steel III''. [[spoiler:Notably, she's become an Enforcer for Ouroboros whilst still being part of the Red Constellation, meaning that the society also has Gareth and a squad of the corps to use for their plans.]]
* ChainsawGripBFG: Fittingly for a weapon that is part chainsaw, she wields her Testa-Rossa like this for certain attacks in ''Cold Steel III''.
* ChildSoldier: Started working in the family business at the age of nine.
* ClashingCousins: With Randy who had left behind the Red Constellation.
* DarkActionGirl: All action and all villain, though when she's not being [[AxCrazy Ax-Crazy]] she can be flirty, in a creepy, molester-y sort of way.
* DemotedToExtra: [[spoiler:After prominently appearing in the third and fourth ''Cold Steel'' games, ''Reverie'' reduces her role to only appearing in Jingo and Cedric's side stories, while she's absent from the main game.]]
* DepravedBisexual: [[AmbiguouslyBi Maybe]]? She does have a habit of playfully molesting whoever she finds attractive (or when she just feels like it), who [[ButNotTooBi tend to be female]]. Both Elie and Duvalie find themselves on the receiving end at some point.
* DrillSergeantNasty: As shown in ''Reverie'', [[spoiler:Shirley expose Cedric to [[TrainingFromHell good old jaeger training]] in order to shape him into an Enforcer. Even when Gilbert disrupts the training out of anger after his defeat and brings out his G-Apache, Shirley prevents Gareth from interfering in order to challenge Cedric further.]]
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: In the span of one short scene, Shirley flirts with Lloyd, gropes Elie, shows off how fast she can move, and shows off a distinctly childish side. [[spoiler:And hints that Red Constellation is on Osborne's payroll]].
* EvenEvilHasStandards: No, seriously. You know that some of the other villains have crossed the line when even she thinks that [[spoiler:blowing up the Courageous]] was a dick move.
* EvilCounterpart: To her cousin Randy as unlike him she's fully embraced her family's career and teachings of a jaeger as an utter PsychoForHire.
* EvilKnockoff: [[spoiler:Played with in ''Reverie''; she has a Hollow copy that serves as a boss in the True Reverie Corridor, most notably when it fights [[DualBoss alongside]] Rixia's during Lloyd and Kurt's Trial Door. Shirley herself, however, has been a villain since ''Azure''.]]
%%* EvilLaugh: Does this whenever she gets excited during a fight, which is often.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: [[spoiler:Ends up encouraging Cedric after he ends up having a breakdown after finally realizing what he had just done.]]
* GracefulLoser: She takes her defeats surprisingly well, even goading her opponents into finishing her off if they desire.
* ICallItVera: She names her weapon Testa-Rossa after the calamity that struck in Erebonia. [[spoiler:Amusingly enough, this becomes a point of connection between her and Cedric, who pilots the ''real'' Testa-Rossa.]]
* IfIWantedYouDead: In chapter 2 of ''Azure'', the SSS find her inside their building after a patrol, and Randy angrily asks if she had done anything to the place, worried of any possible booby traps. Shirley just laughs it off, and claims that if she ''had'' booby trapped the place, [[LudicrousGibs they'd have all been blown to shreds the moment they opened the door.]]
* JumpedAtTheCall: [[spoiler:Campanella notices that she has potential and offers her a position as an Enforcer candidate. She takes it.]]
* KindheartedCatLover: Subverted; she likes cats, but she has unusual methods for finding lost ones. This is retained in ''Cold Steel III''.
* LastBreathBullet: Averted. After her final defeat in the Azure Tree during ''Azure'', she foregoes taking the chance to shoot at the party before passing out even lampshading how you shouldn't expose your back on the battlefield.
* LimitBreak: Her S-Craft is Death Parade in ''Azure'', and Disaster of Maja/Macha's Curse in ''Cold Steel III'' and ''IV''. Both involve unleashing all of her weapon's features on the target.
* NamesToRunAwayFromVeryFast: Both her epithets, "Bloody Shirley" and "the Sanguine Ogre", make it clear she isn't someone to mess with considering her combat prowess and AxCrazy attitude.
* NeckLift: Does this single-handedly to a grown man during the second chapter of ''Azure'' to interrogate him on the whereabouts of a cat he scared away. Does the same to the guy's buddy with her free hand as well when he starts mouthing off.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: All too willing to perform a SkinshipGrope on any attractive female at a moment's notice and on her first meeting with the SSS, immediately got up close and personal with Lloyd to sniff him and nibble on his ear.
* PetTheDog: [[spoiler:In ''Azure'', after being defeated in the Azure Tree, she shows concern for [=KeA=]'s mental state. In ''Cold Steel III'', she pays her respects to Loewe at Hamel, even though he died before she even joined Ouroboros. This also extends to her treatment of Cedric in ''IV'', where she snaps him out of his breakdown, and encourages him to join Ouroboros so she can continue to emotionally support him]].
* PositiveFriendInfluence: The relationship she develops with [[spoiler:Cedric]] in ''Cold Steel IV'' is a mutually-beneficial example. [[spoiler:Shirley helps Cedric break out of his [[MoreThanMindControl curse-induced frenzy]] and eventually set out to find his place in the world, while Cedric unwittingly causes Shirley to tone down the AxCrazy and accept non-violent resolutions to confrontations.]]
* ProfessionalKiller: She's a jaeger, so killing people for money is somewhere in the job description.
* RedBaron: As a sub-commander of the Red Constellation, she's gained the title "Bloody Shirley". [[spoiler:She ends up getting another one when she joins Ouroboros as Enforcer XVII, "the Sanguine Ogre."]]
* ShipTease: [[spoiler:''Cold Steel IV'' shows her growing surprising close to Cedric, with their relationship helping to curb their more negative traits. She does try to [[HesNotMyBoyfriend stop this view]] by claiming to be more into girls, while seeing him as something of a little brother, but whether this is a case of MistakenForRomance or her just being in denial hasn't been confirmed.]]
* SkinshipGrope: Aside from groping Elie, she also gropes Duvalie in ''Cold Steel III''. In ''Cold Steel IV'', she wishes she could also grope Estelle.
* SmarterThanYouLook: Despite her usually childish and bloodthirsty demeanour, she proves she can be rather sharp. She realizes Rixia is Yin from simply meeting her ''once'', whereas it took the SSS and Cao months to figure out who she was.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Her outfit in ''Azure'' consists of extremely short form-fitting shorts, a bandeau, and thigh-high boots. Her outfit from ''Cold Steel III'' onwards is only marginally more modest, consisting of a similar pair of shorts, a somewhat more substantial bustier, a higher pair of boots, and an open jacket with a fur lined collar.
* StrongerThanTheyLook: Despite her petite frame, she has no problem using her large weapon, even beating her older and larger cousin in a BladeLock. She also performed a single-handed NeckLift on two grown men who were each larger than her without breaking a sweat in Chapter 2 of ''Azure''.
* SwissArmyWeapon: Her Testa-Rossa, a Blade Rifle that combines an assault rifle, a flamethrower, and a chainsaw.
* TattooedCrook: Has some blue stripe tattoos on the left side of her body going from her shoulder, and abdomen.
* TeensAreMonsters: Is 16 years old during her first appearance, and is an AxCrazy PsychoForHire who already has a sizable body count.
* ThirdPersonPerson: In the Japanese script, she uses her name in place of a [[UsefulNotes/JapanesePronouns first-person pronoun]]. This helps to highlight her more childish side.
* TookALevelInKindness: Well, it might not be saying much, but by the time of ''Cold Steel IV'', she no longer seems to be in the ViolenceIsTheOnlyOption mindset.
* TraintopBattle: [[spoiler:Engages in one with Fie on top of the [[CoolTrain Derfflinger]] in ''Cold Steel III'']].
* TrashOfTheTitans: When she borrow Class VII's dormitory in Leeves during ''Cold Steel IV'', she takes Randy's room and leave ammo, luggage and clothes all over the place.
* TroublingUnchildlikeBehaviour: The rest of the SSS are rather disturbed that a 16 year old girl can be such a blood thirsty PsychoForHire.

A regimental commander of the Red Constellation known as "The Blitz."
----
* TheBusCameBack: He reappears alongside Shirley in ''Cold Steel III''.
* ColdSniper: He uses a sniper rifle, and he doesn't appear to express much emotion.
* EveryoneHasStandards: As revealed in ''Reverie'', [[spoiler:even he expressed disapproval of Shirley attacking Arc-En-Ciel and dropping the chandelier on Ilya back in ''Azure''.]]
* {{Irony}}: In ''Azure'', Dieter hires the Red Constellation to sow unrest to the citizens and blames it on the Erebonian Empire. Then in ''Reverie'', [[spoiler:Dieter hires the Red Constellation to ''save'' the citizens and the party, an irony that Gareth is shown to be aware of.]]
* RedBaron: He's been nicknamed "The Blitz."
* TheUnfought: PlayedWith; battles against Gareth never actually place him on the field of battle or otherwise allow the player to directly attack him, instead pitting the player against other, regular enemies while Gareth snipes at them from an inaccessible vantage point. When all the other enemies are defeated, the battle automatically ends in the player's favor.

A regimental commander of the jaeger corps Zephyr. In the first two ''Cold Steel'' games, he and Leonidas served as bodyguards and enforcers of Duke Cayenne. In ''Cold Steel III'', he and Leonidas return and are back to serving under their revived commander, Rutger Claussell.
----
* BashBrothers: He and Leonidas tend to [[DualBoss fight together]], severely increasing their threat level. [[spoiler:Fittingly, the one time they're shown definitively bested by the heroes was also the only time they're fought separately.]]
* {{BFG}}: Half of his Blade Rifle.
** {{BFS}}: The other half.

* EvilFormerFriend: Like all the members of Zephyr, Fie used to think of Xeno as family. Her subsequent abandonment and the events from the end of ''Cold Steel'' onward are causing her to rethink her feelings, although she understands that as jaegers, they're dictated by whoever pays them.
* HiddenDepths: [[spoiler:In Jingo's side story in ''Reverie'', it turns out that he's a Mishy fan and that he owns a rare first edition "Retro Eyebrow Shape" Mishy where the former Chairman Hartmann gave to him as payment for an escort job.]] Leonidas can only stare at him silently for this.

* PowerFist: He uses a two-meter long weapon called a Machine Gauntlet in battle, containing a pilebanker and large claws.
* PrivateMilitaryContractors: Part of Zephyr, one of the greatest jaeger groups of the continent.
* PromotedToPlayable: [[spoiler:As with Xeno, he became playable for the first time in ''Cold Steel IV''.]]
* PunchClockVillain: Like Xeno, he's on the villains side for the paycheck and shows genuine affection for Fie.
* RedBaron: Known as Leonidas the Behemoth.
* ScaryBlackMan: Deliberately plays this up when TwerpSweating Rean.
* TheStoic: In contrast to the rather chatty Xeno, Leo tends to be a solemn man who doesn't mince words much.
** In ''Reverie'' he doesn't get the appeal of Golden Mishy during one of the Daydreams, in complete contrast to Xeno, who is quite enthusiastic about it.

Fie's adoptive father and leader of Zephyr, one of the most powerful jaeger corps in Western Zemuria alongside the Red Constellation. Presumed dead after a 3-day battle with Baldur Orlando before ''Cold Steel I'' begins, he appears alongside Xeno and Leonidas in ''Cold Steel III'' having been mysteriously revived.
----
* AFatherToHisMen: He was not only Fie's cherished adoptive father, but also a father figure to his other troops, leading them to became so greatly loyal to him that they tried to bring him back.
* AffablyEvil: Despite being on the antagonists' side, he was a pretty laid back and easygoing guy not above having a friendly chat, and was AFatherToHisMen and [[GoodParents a loving parent]] to Fie.
* AlreadyDoneForYou: Rean and his new Class VII is tasked to defeat an archaism in Chapter 1. After defeating one, the party encounter Rutger in his civilian clothing. After they talk and Rutger leaves, the party then realizes that there are 15 other archaisms already defeated by him. [[ShoutOut This is similar to how Sigmund was introduced]].
* AntiVillain: He's helping the villains in ''Cold Steel III'' and ''IV'', but only because [[PunchClockVillain he was hired to do so]]. Even while on the job, he's a CoolOldGuy who is pretty [[AffablyEvil friendly]] with his foes, is AFatherToHisMen and was shown to be a [[GoodParent loving father]] to Fie.
* BackFromTheDead: His existence in the game alongside Scarlet Roselia and Azure Siegfried is "something that shouldn't be" according to [[WordOfGod Kondo]]. Seeing that he should've been dead, high chance this trope is in play. [[spoiler:Confirmed in ''Cold Steel IV'' that he was resurrected in order to become the Palatinate Knight's Awakener.]]
* BadassLongcoat: Wears one to denote his status as leader and strongest member of the corps.
* {{BFS}}: His Buster Glaive is about as long as he is tall, with a blade even bigger than Victor's.
* BifurcatedWeapon: His Buster Glaive is a sword that can also fire bullets just like Randy's Berserker and Shirley's Testa-Rossa. [[spoiler:It's revealed that the Black Workshop sold both the Red Constellation and Zephyr the weapons that they use.]]
* BloodKnight: Not as blatant as Sigmund or other examples, but was clearly excited when Rean and the other members of Class VII manage to give him a challenge during the Rivalries.
* CigarChomper: Smokes one at the start of Chapter 3 of ''Cold Steel III''.
* CoolOldGuy: He's about 50 years old, and is a pretty chill dude. Sara, [[LikesOlderMen naturally]], finds him attractive in a different way than Victor.
* DeathFromAbove: His ''Gilgamesh Breaker'' S-Craft ends with him jumping into air and diving down with a plunging thrust.
* DisappearsIntoLight: [[spoiler:How he goes out, after his Divine Knight is absorbed into Valimar and his life can no longer be sustained by its power]].
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Whether he can even be called evil is debatable (mainly because as a jaeger, he's mostly dictated by who pays him the best and will get the job done for them), but he genuinely cares for his adopted daughter Fie, as well as his subordinates.
* EveryoneHasStandards:
** He was highly reluctant to have Fie [[ChildSoldier becoming part of the corps]] and his dying wish was for Zephyr to disband to GiveHerANormalLife.
** He didn't like the whole "blow up the Courageous" scene; he derogatively refers to it as "terrorist bombing."
* EvilKnockoff: [[spoiler:In ''Reverie'', he has a Hollow copy that serves as a boss in the True Reverie Corridor, most notably when it fights [[DualBoss alongside]] Garcia's on the fourth floor.]]
* FaceDeathWithDignity: [[spoiler:He rejects Rean's offer to save his life with Valimar's power, and dies satisfied after making peace with his daughter]].
* GiveHerANormalLife: He never wanted Fie to fight as part of the corps, and ordered Zephyr to disband and arranged for Sara to take care of her after his death in hopes she'd find a different path in life, which she thankfully did.
* GoOutWithASmile: [[spoiler:Goes out with a smile on his face, finally making peace with his daughter. He also smiles when he disappears from Rean alongside Arianrhod and Osborne.]]
* GoodCounterpart: Or atleast ALighterShadeOfGray to Baldur Orlando, as Rutger is shown to be a NobleDemon and professional who, while capable of getting excited during a great fight, shows some moral compass with little interest in civilian casualties, whereas Baldur was heavily hinted to be just as much of a PsychoForHire as his brother and niece. Also this to their parenting as Rutger was [[EveryoneHasStandards uncomfortable]] with the idea of having Fie join Zephyr as a ChildSoldier and wanted to GiveHerANormalLife, whereas Baldur was an AbusiveParent who forced Randy to go into battlefields since he was as young as 9 with the intention of making him become the next head of the Red Constellation whether he wanted to or not.
* HiddenEyes: His eyes aren't drawn during [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/baldur_orlando_rutger_claussell_28sen_ii29_7.png a flashback sequence of him and Baldur]] during ''Cold Steel II''.
* HumongousMecha: He is revealed to be the Awakener of Zector, the Palatinate Knight.
* ILetYouWin: At the Alisha Casino, he offers to give info to Rean on the condition that he and his allies beat Zephyr at Vantage Masters, all while both sides use the same decks. During his first round with Rean, he has the advantage because Rean is too distracted by Sara and Claire losing to Xeno and Leo. When the new Class VII students show up, Rutger allows Ash and Musse to sub in for Sara and Claire and allows Rean to redo the round. Rutger also gives Rean the option of using his own deck, which can be advantageous if the player built their deck well. Afterwards, Rean notices that Rutger's hand has a combo that could deal at least 16 damage, showing that the latter threw the match.
* IThoughtYouWereDead: Fie, Randy and Shirley are shocked to see him in ''Cold Steel III'' since they saw him die fighting Baldur Orlando.
* LimitBreak: [[spoiler:His S-Craft in ''Cold Steel III'' and ''IV'', as well as his finishing move when piloting Zector, is Gilgamesh Breaker.]]
* MutualKill: He originally died while at the end of a fight against Baldur Orlando that left both of them dead. The fight apparently lasted 3 whole days.
* NobleDemon: Contracted by the villains, yet still a pretty chill guy who isn't interested in civilian casualties. Especially noticeable compared to other antagonistic jaegers like [[PsychoForHire Shirley and Sigmund.]][[spoiler:It turns out that it's the fact that he was easier to deal with that led to Alberich reviving him instead of Baldur.]]
* NotSoStoic: [[spoiler:In his last moments before fading away, he has a moment of appearing genuinely touched when Fie calls him "Dad" for the first time.]]
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: His death alongside Baldur is only mentioned as passing, but still a badass moment nonetheless. The fight lasted for ''three whole days'', after all. [[spoiler:Turns out, even Rutger comments at the fact that it is abnormal for him and Baldur to even fight for that long.]]
* OldSoldier: He's pushing 50, and still a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.
* OneHandedZweihander: He's capable of holding his Buster Glaive with one hand.
* PosthumousCharacter: He died before ''Cold Steel I'' takes place, although his appearance in ''Cold Steel III'' indicates something is amiss. [[spoiler: He was brought back to life by Alberich in order to serve as an Awakener.]]
* PrivateMilitaryContractors: Formerly the leader of Zephyr, one of the strongest jaeger corps on the continent.
* PunchClockVillain: As is fitting for a jaeger, he's just doing what's in the job description, and is actually pretty friendly otherwise.
* PurpleIsPowerful: He's one of the strongest jaegers on the continent and became the Awakener of the Palatinate (a shade of purple) Divine Knight.
* RankScalesWithAsskicking: He is the leader of one of the strongest jaeger corps on the continent and is known as the Jaeger King, with all the strength and skill to back up such a title.
* RedBaron: He was known as Jaeger King back when he was still alive. [[spoiler:And when he returns as Zector's Awakener.]]
* RefugeInAudacity: He explains that if people want information from jaegers, they have to beat said jaeger. Of course Rutger doesn't want to settle things violently in a casino with civilians around. So how does he settle it for Rean and the party? By playing Vantage Masters, ''a children's card game, inside a casino''. HilarityEnsues.
* ResurrectedForAJob: Alberich resurrected him to become Zector's Awakener and take part in the Rivalries.
* SoProudOfYou: [[spoiler: When he's about to disappear for good this time, he expresses pride in Fie for growing into a fine young woman whose chosen her own path in life.]]
* UnwittingPawn: [[spoiler:He and Baldur end up fighting because of Alberich. He then ends up becoming Zector's Awakener and isn't happy that Alberich set him and Baldur up.]]
* WeCanRuleTogether: In his first appearance in ''Cold Steel IV'', he offers to recruit Ash into Zephyr, remarking that [[spoiler:with him being a wanted man for shooting the emperor, even if it was against his will,]] he doesn't have many options or places to go, with Randy remarking that he's recruited other people who were in similar situations into Zephyr before. He gets rebuffed, but doesn't take it too badly.
* WorldsStrongestMan: He and Baldur Orlando were considered the two strongest jaegers to have ever lived. In battle, he shows that he isn't known as the Jaeger King for nothing.
%%* WorthyOpponent: Outright calls Rean and Class VII one near the end of ''Cold Steel IV'', claiming he hasn't had such a good fight since Baldur. %%doesn't properly explain%%

Former solders of the fallen Principality of North Ambria, they turned to the jaeger lifestyle fairly recently in order to earn money to help rebuild their homeland. They are unfortunately the only functioning part of the North Ambrian economy, which creates ''enormous'' problems for North Ambria in the aftermath of the Erebonian Civil War.

They serve as the focus of the ''Northern War'' anime set in-between the events of ''Cold Steel II'' and ''III''.
----
* CustomUniform: The members of Rogan's Phenomenon Squad wear red armor instead of the usual dark purple.
* DeathSeeker: After North Ambria was annexed by Erebonia, several members join Ouroboros's operation against Lamare in order to exact vengeance on the provincial army. They intend to die in battle in the Juno Naval Fortress and attempt to kill themselves when Team A spares them, though Rean and Sara manage to disarm them. Sara convinces them this isn't what her father would have wanted and that by choosing death, they [[MotiveDecay lost sight of their original motive]] of providing for the people of North Ambria.
* EarlyBirdCameo: While the corps didn't become very relevant until ''Cold Steel II'', some of their members were hired as security guards that ended up fighting [[Characters/TrailsSeriesSeptianChurch Kevin]] during ''The 3rd'''s Prologue.
* EnemyCivilWar: Glark states that the Northern Jaegers are split between a faction that wants North Ambria to prosper without relying on war and a faction that wants to expand North Ambria through war. Colonel Valestein was able to keep them united through his military accomplishments and charisma, but that unity was lost when Valestein fell in battle. [[spoiler:Glark framed Vlad Winslet for killing Valestein so that the latter would act as a common enemy to unite the factions, but that just led to Rogan resenting Glark for his actions, ultimately leading to the Phenomenon Squad overthrowing the government.]]
* FightingForAHomeland: Whereas other Jaegers are OnlyInItForTheMoney, they are motivated by gaining money to assist their ruined home country and its impoverished citizens.
* JustFollowingOrders: The reason they refuse to accept responsibility for the razing of Celdic is because it was Duke Albarea, an Erebonian noble, who gave the order.
* NeverMyFault: Refused to own up to their actions during the Erebonian Civil War, which in turn eventually led to the empire annexing North Ambria.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: Their coup d'état leading up to the Northern War is this, as the Northern Jaegers occupying Haliask and refuting Erebonia's reparation demands over their actions during the civil war gives the Imperial Government an easy excuse to annex North Ambria. This in turn also causes most of the Northern Jaegers to be disbanded and absorbed into the Imperial Army.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: North Ambria is a very poor nation, due to the effects of the Salt Pale incident that ravaged it decades ago. The Northern Jaegers were formed as a way to provide money for the nation. Unfortunately, they are willing to do anything for anyone, as shown with their contract with Duke Albarea during Erebonia's civil war. In ''Cold Steel II'', they're the jaegers responsible for the attack on Ymir and the arson of Celdic.

* EvilAllAlong: [[spoiler:Episode 8 reveals him to be a BigBadWannabe who intends to overthrow the civilian government and [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness kill Lavi when she helps him achieve his goal]] and seriously believes archaisms are enough to conquer the whole of Zemuria, Erebonia included. He and Rogan are only really different regarding Erebonia in that Rogan has neither [[ALighterShadeOfBlack any intention to conquer Erebonia]], just [[WellIntentionedExtremist protect North Ambria from them]], nor the sense to bide his time.]]
* FrameUp: [[spoiler:He frames Vlad for killing Colonel Valestein even though in reality, it was a child jaeger from Nidhoggr that killed him. Though Vlad had a hand in it by not killing said child, something Rogan can't blame Vlad for. Then it turns out that Vlad ''wanted this'' to happen so that the Northern Jaegers would be unified.]]
* {{Hypocrite}}: In episode 6, he calls out Rogan for his SuicidalOverconfidence for suggesting an attack on Erebonia, pointing out that North Ambria is too poor and destitute and the Northern Jaegers too small and ill-equipped to do the any lasting damage to the larger, wealthier and more technilogically advanced Empire. [[spoiler: Episode 8 shows that he's convinced he can take over the entire continent with just them and the Society's aid.]]
* ILied: [[spoiler:When Glark presents Lavi as the hope carrying on both Vlad and Valestein's will, Lavi calls him out on making her the "granddaughter of the hero" of North Ambria with Glark claiming that this is how she can see with her eyes on how she would be treated as such. In fact, he even claims that when all is said and done, he'll dispose Lavi afterwards. He doesn't get that far as he dies at the end of episode 8.]]
* ItsAllAboutMe: [[spoiler:When he reveals his true colors in episode 8, it turns out that he's a very ambitious man who wants to conquer the entire continent.]]
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:He and his jaeger dog die in episode 8 from what appears to be poison from his drink.]]
* TheLeader: He serves as the head of the Northern Jaegers during the Northern War.
* NonActionGuy: Possibly as a result of his age and position, but he's never shown fighting or in the field in the present. Only time he's shown fighting is in flashback during episode 7.
* NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist: He claims that he can use the archaisms to defeat Erebonia, protect North Ambria, and take over the continent to end all wars. Rogan believes that Glark was once genuine in wanting to save the country, but also states that the latter went through MotiveDecay and now only cares about his own glory. [[spoiler:Glark uses his last words to lament the end of his ambitions rather than express concern for his countrymen, which serves to support Rogan's accusations.]]
* OldSoldier: Is quite old, and has been part of the Northern Jaegers since their foundation nearly 30 years prior to the start of the series.
* RedBaron: He's referred to as the "Lightning Lord of the North."
* RightHandAttackDog: Is frequently shown with a large canine military monster as a companion. [[spoiler:It ends up dying with him in episode 8.]]
* SuicidalOverconfidence: [[spoiler:[[{{Hypocrite}} Much like Rogan]], Glark thinks North Ambria can take on not only the Erebonian Empire but ''the whole of Zemuria''. He's a little less overconfident in that he knows to bide his time, but he's perhaps overestimated the capabilities of a bunch of archaisms that tend to go down to melee weapons, such as a bō staff or a tachi, or a bit of weaponised orbal energy. For comparison, the Northern Jaegers number roughly around 10,000. A year later during the Great War, Erebonia alone is able to mobilize 1.2 million ground troops--keep in mind, this is ''with'' most Unified Regions Army soldiers joining the Weissland Army--and have an enormous technological advantage. Rogan's plan to preemptively strike the Empire is risky at best and will make North Ambria, a country that will need international support to avoid Crossbell's fate, look like the bad guy, but it's based on the reality that an Erebonian invasion is inevitable. ''Glark's'' plan is just pure lunacy.]]
* WeCanRuleTogether: When Lavian overhears [[spoiler:that Glark framed Vlad for killing Colonel Valestein, Glark states that doing so was necessary to unite the two rival factions within the Northern Jaegers and that Vlad willingly accepted the blame for that purpose. He asks Lavian to side with him, reasoning that doing so is for the greater good of North Ambria and therefore would honor Vlad's will. However, episode 8 reveals that he fully intends on disposing of Lavi after she [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness outlives her usefulness]].]]

A middle-aged officer in the Northern Jaegers. He is one of the most famous members, and is infamous for his radical politics against North Ambria's officials.
----
* AffectionateNickname: Martin calls him "Rog" in the Japanese version.
* CoatCape: Like Glark, he wears a coat over his shoulders.
* CustomUniform: His armor is a brighter shade of purple than the ones worn by his comrades.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: His plan to preemptively attack Erebonia is nothing close to as nonsensical as [[spoiler:Glark's ambitions to conquer Zemuria]], but it's fatally flawed for one simple reason: North Ambria needs allies to weather the storm against the enormously larger Imperial Army. To have those allies, the invasion needs to be unprovoked or at the very least needs to be recognized for the DisproportionateRetribution it is. If North Ambria strikes first, much like with Crossbell, Erebonia will look justified in invading what appears to be a hostile nation, costing North Ambria the international support it desperately needs. Should this happen, the only group sending help will be the Bracer Guild, and since [[ToBeLawfulOrGood they can't openly oppose the Empire]], that help will strictly be for North Ambrian civilians caught in the crossfire. In fact, their focus on civilian safety may force any bracers present in North Ambria, North Ambrian bracers included, to '''side with the Empire''' should any Northern Jaegers or the archaisms Glark and Jayna have been stockpiling start attacking civilians.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: [[spoiler:While Rogan was built up as the primary antagonist of ''Northern War'', during the penultimate episode, Lavi manages to convince him that he's being manipulated by Jayna into acting against the best interest of the people and that he should negotiate with the Empire instead of waging an unwinnable war.]]
* EyeScream: He's got a massive jagged scar down the left side of his face, with the eye it runs through perpetually closed.
* InconsistentSpelling: His given name is spelled as "Logan" in some promotional material.
* ItsPersonal: He expresses a deep animosity against Vlad Winslet for his betrayal of North Ambria, hinted to be born out of [[BrokenPedestal prior admiration for him]] before he turned his back on his country. He extends this towards his granddaughter Lavian as well, able to recognize her on sight and casually mention facts about her hometown's seasonal crop-growing whilst giving her a DeathGlare, indicating he extensively researched Vlad's family background. [[spoiler:Later episodes, however, reveal that it's actually Glark whom he holds a grudge against: Rogan is fully aware that Vlad is only considered a traitor due to taking the fall for a jaeger child killing Colonel Valestein, and Rogan himself admits that he couldn't blame Vlad for not killing the child jaeger. Instead, he holds Glark in contempt for making Vlad take the fall, and he reveals the cover-up in order to turn the corps against Glark.]]
* LetsFightLikeGentlemen: His profile mentions that he doesn’t resort to foul play.
* ALighterShadeOfBlack: [[spoiler:To Glark. Glark is a BigBadWannabe who intends to conquer the whole of Zemuria, Erebonia included, and only hasn't done so because he knows North Ambria in its current state stands no chance against Erebonia, while Rogan is a WellIntentionedExtremist who knows Erebonia will invade sooner or later and intends to strike first to protect his country.]]
* MilitaryCoup: [[spoiler:He and a group of his loyalists in the Northern Jaegers enact one against Glark and the civilian government in episode 8.]]
* PacifismIsCowardice: Decries anyone speaking in favor of trying to avoid the inevitible war with Erebonia as a coward while advocating to launch a pre-emptive strike.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: He tells the councilors of the North Ambrian government where they can shove it due to them being wishy-washy about the state of affairs of North Ambria.
* RedBaron: Known as the "Aurora Phenomena", apparently for his multi-coloured hair and WalkingWasteland tendencies in warfare.
* TheRemnant: [[spoiler:At the end of the series, he decides to reorganize the remains of the Northern Jaegers to one day save North Ambria from the Empire. It's implied that he's the leader of the group that Rean faces in ''Cold Steel III'' and ''IV''.]]
* SuicidalOverconfidence: Glark sees him as this for his WarHawk tendencies, pointing out that trying to directly attack the [[BullyingTheDragon much larger, wealthier, and better equipped Empire of Erebonia]] as he keeps insisting to do would ''not'' end well for the poor and destitute country of North Ambria, even before they acquired the [[HumongousMecha Panzer Soldats]] and [[SuperRobot Valimar.]]
* ThisCannotBe: At the end of episode 2, he didn't expect Glark to tell the governing council (whether to strike against the empire now while they're busy annexing Crossbell) that North Ambria's stance is to "wait and see" instead of a preemptive strike towards the empire.
* VitriolicBestBuds: He and Martin have known each other for a while (they were both present for Colonel Valestein's death), and despite both taking potshots at one another, it's clear there's a sense of comradery between them.
* WalkingWasteland: His combat tactics are apparently so destructive that they've given him a reputation for being this.
-->'''Ivano:''' Anywhere Rogan goes, he leaves nothing in his wake. Not monsters, not people, not even vegetation.
* WarHawk: Of the commanders of the Northern Jaegers, he is most fervently in favor of going into war against Erebonia, arguing in favour of a pr-emptive strike against the Empire while they're busy with the Annexation of Crossbell and disparages anyone speaking in favor of avoiding the inevitable war as a coward.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: [[spoiler:He plots to overthrow North Ambria's government to put an end to Glark's corrupt regime and protect North Ambria from Erebonia.]]
* WhatTheHellHero: [[spoiler:When Glark presents Lavi as the new beacon of hope for North Ambria in episode 8, Rogan calls her out wondering what she's even doing as Glark in his eyes cannot be trusted.]]

* AsleepForDays: [[spoiler:In episode 10, it's revealed that she was asleep for a week after arriving at Mishyusk Village after getting shot by Talion to help her to escape.]]
* BigEater: Lavi tends to eat a lot, frustrating Talion by buying a massive ice cream cone in Ordis and a large and expensive lunch on the train.
* AChildShallLeadThem: At fifteen years old, she leads her team to the empire. She's also the youngest ''Trails'' protagonist to date.[[note]]Estelle, who used to be the youngest at the start of her story, was sixteen years old when she becomes a junior bracer.[[/note]]. Episode one of ''Northern War'' has her fellow Jaegars question if she's the second coming of the Purple Lightning after hearing how fast she got through training.
* ContrastingSequelProtagonist: Estelle Bright was a BookDumb GenkiGirl with brown hair who fought with a MartialArtsStaff and starts the story having recently joined the Bracer Guilds which is LovedByAll in the series for it's banner of helping people in need and home to some of the most straight-laced heroic characters in the series, and is the daughter of the vaunted hero Cassius Bright who saved Liberl from an Imperial invasion. Lavian has blonde hair, is TheStoic and part of the Northern Jaegers, which is more morally grey as while they do fight for the sake of their homeland, involves shady mercenary work and have played a role as antagonists is seen as a TeenGenius who advanced quickly through training to the point of becoming an instructor for other recruits at the ripe young age of 15 and fights with knives and firearms, and her grandfather is known as a traitor to North Ambria.
* DualWielding: She wields dual daggers in combat.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Her first scene has her ignore some of her squadmates ribbing her and performing a NonChalantDodge when one of them throws a snowball at her without even looking back at them before breaking out of formation to go save some townfolk under attack by monsters. This hows her to be serious, competent, but also having a big heart who genuinely cares for the people of North Ambria.

* GogglesDoNothing: Her outfit when she infiltrates the empire has goggles on her hat.
* ImprobableAge: At fifteen years old, she's already an instructor of the Northern Jaegers.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She's usually stoic, moody, serious and not the most social person, but genuinely cares for her comrades and countrymen, shown as soon as she rushed out of her squad formation to save some civilians from monsters in her first scene.
* {{Meido}}: Disguises herself as a maid in Episode 9 while infiltrating the legislative palace to try and get the Archaism control device away from Rogan.
* MilitaryMaverick: Repeatedly violates orders whenever she does her missions.
* SinsOfOurFathers: Grandfather in this case, but North Ambria will never let her forget that her grandfather decided to betray the Northern Jaegers.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: From Rean's perspective, he's only met Lavi at least three times but Lavi is the reason [[spoiler:why Rean becomes an instructor in ''Cold Steel III''.]]
* TheStoic: She remains level headed regardless of the circumstances. A flashback to her childhood shows that she was more emotional before she became a jaeger.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl:The stoic and serious tomboy to Iseria's more energetic and shop happy girly girl.

A young swordswoman who acts as the Deputy Commander of Ikaruga. Shizuna first debuts in ''Trails into Reverie'' where she encounters Rean during his family's vacation trip to Calvard's "Hot Spring Paradise," Longlai. When her subordinates decide to attack him, Shizuna saves them by ambushing Rean and breaking his sword. After exchanging words with her "junior", she tells Rean that he won't find Yun Ka-Fai in Calvard and bids him farewell.

She makes her first true appearance in the first ''Daybreak'' game, where she has an encounter with the Arkride Solutions Office during their own vacation trip to Longlai.
----
* AbsurdlySharpBlade: To demonstrate how sharp her sword is, she cuts through Rean's tachi very easily. Note that Rean has crossed swords with other [[MasterSwordsman masters of different styles of swordsmanship]], including Cassius who was using Richard's sword for his test as a Divine Blade. ''None of them'' have ever snapped Rean's tachi into two (though admittedly, it was also a surprise attack).
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: She learns how to pull off [[spoiler:Spirit Unification]] just by watching Rean do it, although she claims her version is a pale imitation.
* BadassAdorable: On the battlefield, she's feared as one of the most powerful swordswomen in Calvard. Off the battlefield, she's as cute as a button, as seen when she gets excited at seeing the sights that the capital of the country has to offer.
* BadassLongcoat: A fearsome MasterSwordsman whose first outfit features a long white jacket.
* {{BFS}}: Unlike Rean, her sword is actually an odachi, which is considered the longest type of Japanese sword to be ever made. The size can vary, but the standard length of one is about 35.8 inches.
* BloodKnight: She ''really'' loves a good fight, and is itching to find somebody who can make her go all out. [[spoiler:If players do not choose to team up with Ikaruga during ''Daybreak'', then after the boss fight, Shizuna will use Spirit Unification. Fortunately for Van and company, she doesn't attack them due to her anger over some Heiyue assassins trying to interrupt her fun. It's enough that Shizuna decides against continuing the battle and declares Van's side the winner by giving them her team's access card.]]
* BuxomBeautyStandard: During ''Kuro II'''s Intermission, [[Characters/TrailsSeriesImperialLiberationFront Nadia]] expresses a desire for a body like hers and Lucrezia's.
* CoolSword: She wields a jet-black odachi, which is further decorated in red and silver designs.
* ContraltoOfStrength: While Shizuna normally speaks with a light and friendly tone even towards her enemies in battle, her voice drops several octaves when she starts to take a fight seriously. [[spoiler:It's especially notable when she uses Spirit Unification, which adds a booming echo effect whenever she speaks]].
* CostumeEvolution: Her [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shizuna_city.jpg casual outfit]] from ''Kuro II'' trades in the white jacket for a blue one, while also throwing in ripped white pants.
* CuteButPsycho: Shizuna is a beautiful young woman who, while not inherently malicious for the time being, is shown to be rather bloodthirsty, having no problems picking a fight with just about anyone she meets.
* CutscenePowerToTheMax:
** [[spoiler:She knows how to use her version of Spirit Unification yet players can't use it when she's a playable character during Chapter 5 or in ''Kuro II'']].
** Her fight against Kasim in ''Kuro II'' involves her pulling off strong moves that are impossible in gameplay [[spoiler:which also includes Spirit Unification]].
* CuttingThroughEnergy: During a cutscene in Chapter 2A of ''Kuro II'', she has her sword slice through Kasim's [[WaveMotionGun Shergard Strike]].
* DelayedCausality: Her S-Craft has her slash at the target, with the enemy getting sliced a few seconds later. It's also how she establishes herself when she first shows up after slicing a leaf, splitting it into two leaves.
* DualBoss:
** [[spoiler:She fights alongside Kurogane in the non-Ikaruga routes of ''Daybreak'' Chapter 5.]]
** [[spoiler:She'll fight alongside Gouran in ''Kuro II'' Chapter 2A, then with Kurogane again in the Intermission.]]
* EarlyBirdCameo: Like Kurogane, she first appears in Rean's short story in ''Reverie'', which can be read after completing the True Reverie Corridor, but her proper debut is in ''Daybreak''.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: The first thing she does is take Rean by surprise and ''destroy his tachi'' in one swing, being the first character to ever accomplish said feat on foot, before going on to compliment Rean over his Spirit Unification ability and comments on how he might be able to give her a good fight unlike Cassius and Arios. Rean also notes that she's on the level of a Divine Blade.
* FantasticFightingStyle: She's a practitioner of the Black God One Blade school, a style eerily similar to the Eight Leaves One Blade school used by many previous characters. [[spoiler:To be precise, it's a thousand year-old style that was one of the bases for the Eight Leaves, with Yun Ka-Fai, Shizuna's sensei, wanting the latter school to be the Sword of Light to the former school's Sword of Darkness.]]
* FashionableAsymmetry: Her new outfit in ''Kuro II'' includes a pair of ripped jeans that exposes the majority of her left leg.
* FirstNameBasis: She insists on calling Van by his first name not long after meeting him. Van himself just sticks to her title in the first ''Daybreak'' game, but does start calling her "Shizuna" in the second.
* FlashStep: Just like previous users of Gale and its variations, Shizuna's Tsukumo Hayate Craft shows her moving so fast, she might as well be teleporting.
* FormFittingWardrobe: Shizuna's first outfit does a bang-up job of showing off her figure.
* TheGift: During her EarlyBirdCameo, it's hinted that she had already held her title of Divine Blade for some time despite only being a year older than Rean, hinting that she may be the youngest person to have earned the title. Her showing in battle and eventually [[spoiler:copying Rean's Spirit Unification [[AwesomenessByAnalysis despite only getting a single brief glimpse of it]]]] further higlights her talent.
* GuestStarPartyMember: [[spoiler:She's playable in the first ''Daybreak'' game: once if the player chooses the Ikaruga route for Chapter 5, and once in the Final Chapter regardless. Not much of guest in ''Kuro II'', though, as she's generally treated as a main party member once she joins during Chapter 3A.]]
* HartmanHips: While she's usually dressed modestly, the pants from her first outfit do expose her hips. It's usually covered thanks to the jacket when seen from the rear.
* HiddenEyes: In her EarlyBirdCameo, her face is shrouded in shadow, preventing her eyes from being seen.
%%* IaijutsuPractitioner: Even moreso than her fellow pupils where she pulls off moves very similar to [[VideoGame/DevilMayCry3DantesAwakening Vergil's Judgement Cut]] just by moving her hand on her blade and slashing her targets at a distance.
* AnIcePerson: Some of her attacks, such as Ransetsu, have ice-like properties whenever she swings her sword, similar to how Rean's Helix give his slashes fire properties.
* ICallItVera: [[spoiler:Her Connect Event from ''Kuro II'''s Final Chapter reveals that her sword has the name Akegarasu.[[note]]暁鴉, literally Dawn Raven[[/note]]]]
* ImplausibleFencingPowers: In her first official appearance, she slices a leaf length-wise, splitting it into ''two leaves''.
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: Her very first scene in ''Kuro II'' shows her in the bath with Van and Aaron, with her questioning why they're acting so surprised.
* InUniverseNickname: Aside from her title, she's also sometimes referred to as the "Princess of Silver."[[note]]"Shirogane no Hime" in Japanese[[/note]] Lucrezia can also be heard calling her "Ohi-san"[[labelnote:Translation]]The "hi" part still uses the kanji for "Hime," meaning "princess"[[/labelnote]] during the earlier parts of ''Kuro II'' before switching to the less formal "Shizuna-han."
* KatanasAreJustBetter: Hers is an odachi and she demonstrates how sharp her sword is by cutting through Rean's tachi. It's also noted to be some sort of special weapon with an unknown history.
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Silver Sword Saint" from the first ''Daybreak'' game.
* LimitBreak: Her S-Craft is Reigetsu Issen.
* MasterSwordsman: Despite her apparent youth, Rean notes how she's on the level of a Divine Blade, with the first ''Daybreak'' game revealing that she actually has the title.
* MsFanservice: Downplayed with her first outfit; it doesn't show too much skin [[HartmanHips outside from her hips]], but it's form-fitting enough to show off how voluptuous she is. Her new outfit in ''Kuro II'', however, is more revealing, with her navel shown off and her left leg mostly exposed. And then there's her [[{{Stripperiffic}} Z1 Race Queen]] outfit...
* NumberTwo: She's the deputy commander of Ikaruga and is referred to as "Hime" by her subordinates, including Kurogane.
* OneManArmy: Her introduction in ''Daybreak'' has her take on one of Eisenschild's squads lead by Geraint, with only Kurogane as support. She later takes on Van and the others by herself, basically dominating them in what is essentially considered a warm up for her [[spoiler:and that's before she uses Spirit Unification. In Chapter 5, during any the routes where the player chooses to side with a faction other than the Ikaruga, Shizuna proceeds to utterly decimate the Heiyue assassins that arrived to interfere with her battle against Van and the others as well]].
* PaletteSwap: Her swimsuit in ''Kuro II'' is the same one Laura had in ''Cold Steel IV'' and ''Reverie'', only changing from a blue bikini to a black one and navy shorts to white ones.
* PowerEchoes: [[spoiler:When she reveals that she knows Spirit Unification and uses it in front of the party, her voice echoes just like Rean's.]]
* RedBaron: Shizuna is known as the "Divine Blade of Silver"[[labelnote:*]]''Shirogane no Kensei'' in Japanese[[/labelnote]] to those who know of her and her skill with a sword.
* SheFu: One of her attacks has her pull a somersault at her enemies. Her dodge animation also has her cartwheeling.
* SlasherSmile: Seems to be her default expression when she starts enjoying a fight.
* SleevesAreForWimps: In both her jaeger uniform and her new casual outfit for ''Kuro II'', she's shown wearing a sleeveless top underneath her coat.
* SpeedEchoes: When using her Twin Shadows Craft, she makes a clone of herself and then slices her target twice.
* StealthHiBye: A RunningGag in ''Kuro II'' involves her showing up out of nowhere, causing the party to freak out. Case in point, the game reintroduces her already soaking in the water on the male side of Langport's local bathhouse, with Van and Aaron completely unaware of her presence until she makes herself known.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: While her new default outfit shows off more skin than her previous one did, it pales in comparison to her "Z-1 Race Queen" costumes:
** The Type-A comes with a small black top that exposes a lot of cleavage and fully exposes the entire stomach area, and the shorts are ''really'' short.
** [[https://www.falcom.co.jp/kuro2/assets/product/dlc/thumbs/z1queen_shizuna.webp The Type-B]] might not expose the stomach area, but makes up for it by revealing even more cleavage and completely exposing the legs.
* SuperMode: [[spoiler:After warming up during her first fight against Van's party in ''Daybreak'', Shizuna decides to get a little serious and unleashes her own variant on Rean's ''Spirit Unification''[[note]]Both versions are pronounced as Shinki Gou-itsu in the Japanese script, but Rean's uses the kanji "神" for the "Shin" part, while Shizuna's uses "神" instead.[[/note]] against them. It's later revealed in-game that she learned the technique through witnessing Rean use it against Kurogane, though she admits her version is an imitation and isn't quite up to par to his at the moment.]]
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: Normally her eyes are a light blue but when [[spoiler:she uses Spirit Unification, her eyes begins glow with a bright gold.]]
* SwordBeam: One of her attacks at long range has her swing her sword to deal damage to enemies far away from her, similar to the sixth form of the Eight Leaves One Blade style, Scarlet Sky.
* TornadoMove: Her Ransetsu Craft looks like Rean's Helix, only the tornado is icy-blue instead of a fiery-red.
* WorthyOpponent: Although they never fight, she considers Rean to be one after seeing his [[SuperMode Enlightened Spirit Unification]] in person during their first meeting, considering him to be more interesting than their dull seniors Cassius and Arios. Later on during the game itself, Shizuna uses the part of Rean's tachi that she broke off to repair her sheathe, specifically noting its connection to him and how she sees Rean as a strong person.

* NumberTwo: He acts as Shizuna's right-hand man, though there are times where he comes across as more of a babysitter.
* ShadowPin: His Kage Shibari Craft starts with him throw kunai at the targets' shadows. [[spoiler:If the player chooses to not kill Alexandre on the Ikaruga route, the following cutscene will show Kurogane using this technique to immobilize the Almata executive so that Shizuna can neck-chop him unconscious.]]

* SupremeChef: [[spoiler:Shizuna's Connect Event from ''Kuro II'''s Final Chapter reveals that he cooks as a hobby. And if Van is to be believed, he's good at it.]]
* UnderestimatingBadassery: Downplayed. However, he fails to take into account Rean's Spirit Unification. If not for Shizuna's rescuing him and his team, then Kurogane would have outright lost.
