The protagonist of ''Lord Marksman and Vanadis''. Tigre is the count of Alsace, a tiny idyllic fiefdom on the Zhcted border, far from court intrigues or wealthy commercial region. And Tigre likes it that way. With few responsibilities, Tigre is free to pursue his love of hunting and sleeping in late... until the border levies are summoned.

After his army's defeat by Zhcted's Vanadis Eleonora Viltaria, Tigre becomes her first ever prisoner of war after impressing her. He refuses her every attempt at recruitment until Duke Thenardier launches an attack on Alsace as the opening move in Brune's civil war. To defend his home, Tigre ''hires'' Elen and her army as mercenaries and soundly defeats Thenardier. Together with other petty nobles, Tigre forms the Silver Meteor Army, which he leads to victory over both other factions of the civil war, as well as an invading army. During the course of the war, Tigre develops into an excellent general, wins the admiration of enemies and allies alike, discovers Brune's secret heir, kills several dragons, fights off a demon, and discovers his AncestralWeapon has a secret destructive power linked to the goddess of death.
-----
* AccidentalPervert: Tigre's hands seem to be magnets for [[ThanksForTheMammary women's chests]]. He's also walked in on women bathing several times.
* AllUpToYou: [[spoiler:In Volume 13, with most of his allies demoralized and Elen captured, Tigre decides to go rescue her alone]].
* AmnesiacDissonance: This happens to Tigre during Volumes 8 to 10 as he lives in Lebus as Urs under Liza's service. He grows to care for her and his life in Lebus, and though his memories as Tigre begin to resurface he remains uncertain if he wants to regain his old identity. He finally regains it towards the end of volume 10.
* AmnesiacHero: In Volume 7, Tigre loses his memory and Urs is the only name he can remember. By the time Volume 10 rolls around, he regains his true identity and all of his memories.
* AncestralWeapon: The black bow of the Vorn family which is currently in Tigre's possession.
* ArrowCatch: Tigre ''nonchalantly'' catches an arrow aimed at Titta (at her head in the anime and at her chest in the manga) then [[{{CatchAndReturn}} fires it back.]] Still hurts him though.
* BadassAdorable: He is a kind-hearted young man who cares about everyone, and is an unstoppable man of justice against the forces of cruelty.
* BadassBookworm: An intelligent, cultured man who can kick ass when he needs to.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He’s one of the friendliest people and a respected lord in Alsace. But if you push him far enough (like killing slaves, attempting to rape your maid or your close friend, kill innocent children, or harm his homeland), he will be prepared to shoot an arrow right through your head.
* BigDamnHeroes: Tigre pulls this trope off almost OnceAnEpisode:
** In Volume 1, he arrives at Alsace in time to stop Zion’s AttemptedRape on Titta and his invasion of Alsace.
** In Volume 2, he saves Mila from the last Serrash assassin during Elen’s battle in Olmütz.
** In Volume 3, he helps stop Roland from killing Elen and Sofy.
** In Volume 10, he saves Elen and Liza from Baba Yaga in the nick of time.
** In Volume 13, [[spoiler:he and Mila rescue Elen from Greast's clutches]].
* TheBigDamnKiss: With [[spoiler:Elen towards the end of Volume 13]] and [[spoiler:Titta in Volume 15]].
* BiggerIsBetterInBed: Implied, as a gag.
* CallForward: During his spying on Mila in Volume 2, he takes on his father’s name Urs. [[spoiler:He uses this name when he temporarily loses his memory six volumes later]].
* ChickMagnet: He earns the affection of several women including many Vanadis, but the romance aspect of the series isn't brought up as much as the focus of the series is more on the wars than any ShipTease.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: He eventually hooks up with Titta and Regin.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Regin. They met during their excursions outside their homes when they were young.
* CripplingOverspecialization: While his use of the bow is legendary, if anyone or anything gets into melee range, he's completely helpless. Sure, he can use a hunting knife, but only on something he's already killed.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: He has red hair ''and'' red eyes.
* TheDragonslayer: In the past, Tigre killed an Earth Dragon with just a bow. Manages to down a couple during the Brune civil war as well.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: The black bow can fire arrows that can pierce through anything: armor, city gates, magic resistance, dragons, cities... However, the technique exhausts Tigre. A predecessor who used the bow to destroy a city ended up ''dying'' because he used his life to fire the shot.
* DefiantToTheEnd: One of the few survivors of the first battle, he attempts to kill Eleonora so as to at least caused some sort of damage to the enemy army. Unfortunately his arrows are deflected once he gets her attention, but he doesn't flinch or flee even as she rushes at him. Luckily his bravery and skill with the bow, saves his life, as she took him prisoner rather than cut him down.
* TheDogBitesBack:
** Throughout the course of Volume 1, he is ridiculed frequently by Zion and the other Brunish townsfolk. Once he hears about Alsace’s invasion, however, Tigre fights off Zion’s army, combines his bow skills with Arifal and obliterates the poor sap while he is escaping.
** In Volume 4, Tigre finishes off Kasim with a BoomHeadshot when the latter orders the execution of his slaves to provoke Tigre.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: ''Every shot he makes'' hits, he's 'THAT'' good. The black bow adds explosions to those hits.
* EvilKnockoff: [[spoiler: In the Carnwenhan timeline, Tigre's antagonist is apparently the other King Of Magic Bullet. Said villain also [[CameBackWrong revived Sasha, the strongest vanadis, back from the dead.]]]]
* {{Expy}}: [[WordOfGod Tsukasa Kawaguchi]] incorporated elements of the mythical archers Myth/RobinHood and Nasu no Yoichi when creating the character.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: When he spies on Mila in Volume 2, he uses Urs as his codename. Guess what name he uses when he loses his memories in Volume 7?
* FourStarBadass: He is a Brunish count and an army commander. It was Tigre who led the Silver Meteor Army against Ganelon and Thenardier and later, [[spoiler:the Moonlight Knights against the Sachstein forces, Melisande, Greast and Kureys]].
* GagPenis: Sofy accidentally touched his member while they were bathing together, and was stunned by its girth. Elen also remarks that she can't believe something so big [[spoiler:was inside her after TheirFirstTime]].
* GoodIsNotSoft: Tigre is an unstoppable force in combat.
* GuysSmashGirlsShoot: [[InvertedTrope Nope.]] Tigre, fights exclusively with a bow, and the Vanadis fight exclusively with their array of close combat weapons.
* HappinessInSlavery: By all rights, he's Elen's prisoner of war, but their relationship soon turns into war comrades, and eventually lovers. It helps that Elen only speaks of him as her possession while warning him not to risk his life or [[ClingyJealousGirl when another girl is hitting on him]].
* HeavySleeper: So much so. This combined with his ThanksForTheMammaries tendencies is mainly responsible for his AccidentalPervert status.
* TheHero: He's one of the good guys and is the main protagonist of the story.
* HeroesPreferSwords: [[AvertedTrope Nope]]. Tigre exclusively uses a bow in battle, and has no skill with other weapons.
* HeroicBSOD: In the series, Tigre has two of these, both of which border on DespairEventHorizon.
** Tigre goes through a brief one in Volume 5, mourning the loss of his surrogate father. Elen helps him get over it before the FinalBattle with Thenardier.
** In Volume 13, Tigre gets hit with this ''again'' when [[spoiler:he feels that he was unable to save Elen from being captured by Greast. He goes off alone to rescue Elen, but Mila helps him snap out of it]].
* HonorBeforeReason: When Eleonora first asks him to defect to her side, he refuses, stating that it's unheard of in Brune to have someone fighting for their enemy. This despite being treated very well by her, and basically being given the same rank as when he was in Brune. However, once he hears that Alsace is being invaded by Zion, he doesn't hesitate to ask for her help to defend his hometown.
* HorseArcher: Despite being a commander of the Silver Meteor Army, he's often on horseback and fighting with his bow.
* HumbleHero: Despite all his accomplishments, he'd rather live peacefully in Alsace. King Viktor calls him out by observing that people looking at his accomplishments are more likely to assume he's playing up the humility as a PR move. Early on he's also mocked for wearing rather plain leather armor instead of something more protective and lavish, such as plate armor, particularly as he's a noble.
* IGaveMyWord: At the end of Volume 2, he kills the last Serrash assassin attempting to kill Ludmila as thanks for the tea.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: Tigre ''will'' hit his target, no matter what. Even if he's using a flimsy bow he's only ever shot twice before.
* ItsPersonal: Tigre and Duke Thenardier's duel. Tigre's out to avenge Alsace and the killing of Bertrand, while Duke Thenardier wants revenge for his son and his closest aide.
* LateArrivalSpoiler: Tigre having amnesia throughout volumes 8 through 10.
* TheLeader: A combination of the Mastermind and Charismatic types; Tigre is able to come up with charismatic plans and he is the main protagonist in the saga.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: With Titta, despite Titta wanting more.
* LongRangeFighter: Due to only using a bow to fight.
* LivingLegend: This guy helped end civil wars in Brune and Asvarre. Top '''that'''.
* MageMarksman: With the Black Bow, sometimes with help from a Dragonic Tool.
* MarryThemAll: [[spoiler:He ends up marrying the Queen of Brune, his maid, Lim, and all the surviving Vanadis (Elen, Mila, Sofy, Liza and Olga) by the end of the series.]]
* MeaningfulName: Vorn, his last name, means "front" in German. Tigre is Spanish, Italian ‘’and’’ French for "tiger."
* MistressAndServantBoy: Basically the servant to Elen's mistress. He then later becomes this to Liza as well.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:In volume 13, Tigre is regretful that he wasn’t able to save Elen from being captured by Greast]].
* MyGreatestFailure:
** In Volume 5, he is unable to save Bertrand from being killed by Thenardier and temporarily suffers a HeroicBSOD for it.
** In Volume 13, [[spoiler:his failure to prevent Elen’s capture by Greast leads to him ditching the Moonlight Knights and going off to rescue her alone. Fortunately, Mila snaps him out of his funk and joins him]].
* NiceGuy: Tigre's benevolence and generosity is the reason for his popularity with his people.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: He's an archer, count and military commander.
* OceanAwe: Tigre never seems much interested in seeing the ocean before Volume 6 and is struck speechless for a half hour after.
* OddFriendship:
** Minor rural lords do not befriend seven of the most powerful women in the world. Especially considering he was a prisoner to one of them at the beginning.
** Quite a few of his friendships are quite odd, particularly Ryurik and Damad. The latter even was specifically ordered to kill Tigre.
* TheOnlyOne: Tigre is the last remaining survivor after Elen's assault on Dinant, with all of his allies killed or retreated.
* OutdoorBathPeeping: How Tigre first met Sofy. It was an accident. So was catching Tina naked.
* OutsideContextProblem: Not only does Tigre's superlative archery skills allow him to make impossible shots, he also hails from a country known for its contempt of the bow as a weapon. Thus he blindsides a lot of enemies and manages to kill a lot of commanders by sniping them from what they believe to be a safe distance.
* ParentalAbandonment: His mother died when Tigre was 9 years old and he lost his father Urs from a fatal disease not long after.
* ProperlyParanoid: When Tigre first encounters Tina, he becomes suspicious of her true colors. [[spoiler:It ultimately turns out to be true]].
* AProtagonistShallLeadThem: In Volume 14, [[spoiler:Regin gives command of all of Brune's military to Tigre to repel Muozinel's second invasion.]]
* RagingStiffie: He has morning wood issues, though Olga takes it in stride when they share a bed. When he stumbles upon Valentina bathing in a river, he can't pretend he didn't see her naked because his own body is giving it away, leading her to half-seriously issue a FreudianThreat.
* RedIsHeroic: He has red hair and is the main protagonist of the series.
* RoaringRampageOfRescue: [[spoiler:His rescue mission of Elen in Volume 13 is this in a nutshell]].
* SaltTheEarth: In Volume 7, Tigre is forced to use this tactic to hinder Prince Elliot's invading army of 30,000.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: A heroic example. In Volume 13, [[spoiler:Tigre ditches the Moonlight Knights to rescue Elen alone, but returns just in time to help put an end to Greast for good]].
* ShowyInvincibleHero: For the vast majority of the story, the entertainment value wasn't about ''if'' he'll win the battle, but in ''how.'' Then [[spoiler:the end of Volume 12 came along]].
* SleepCute: Many of the female characters find his sleeping face cute.
* SoleSurvivor: In the first half of Volume 1, Tigre appears to be the only survivor to survive Elen’s assault on Dinant; most of his allies are dead and/or have escaped, and Tigre himself was PlayingPossum after he was knocked down.
* SpannerInTheWorks: He has repeatedly put a wrench in villains' plans and helped others in their darkest hours just from the fact that the villains underestimate his skills and prowess in battle.
* StormingTheCastle: He and Elen led the assault on the Tatra Mountains in Volume 2.
* SuckOutThePoison: In Volume 2, Lim ends up bitten by an assassin's snake, forcing Tigre to suck the venom out of her breast.
* ThanksForTheMammaries: Tigre's modus operandi of {{accidental pervert}}hood.
* TheirFirstTime: [[spoiler:At the end of Volume 13, Tigre and Elen have passionate sex after he professes his love for her]].
* ThisIsSomethingHesGotToDoHimself: In the first half of Volume 13, [[spoiler:Tigre leaves behind the Moonlight Knights to rescue Elen alone. However, it’s eventually subverted when Mila decides to tag along for his rescue mission]].
* TragicKeepsake: Tigre’s Black Bow serves as a memento of his late father Urs.
* UndyingLoyalty: He is loyal the Vanadis, especially Elen, as well as Titta, Bertrand, the Augres and the Rodants. Bertrand's death temporarily puts him into a HeroicBSOD.
* UnstoppableRage: Doesn't take the killing of the slaves of Agnes, the invasion of Alsace, [[spoiler: Elen's capture, or Tina injuring Sofy]] very well at all.
* UnwantedHarem: While he remains mostly oblivious to the fact, he's developed quite a circle around himself with Elen, Titta, Mila, Sophie, Liza, Olga, Lim and Regin, all showing interest, and it just keeps growing as even [[TokenEvilTeammate Tina]] is starting to show sincere interest in volume 11.
** Slowly becomes subverted in Volume 13, [[spoiler:he has sex with the primary LoveInterest as well as Titta. At different points.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: It's hard not to give away that Tigre [[spoiler:ends up with amnesia]] since it's the basis of almost three light novels.
* WhatDoesSheSeeInHim: The question on the lips of many people after Elen takes him prisoner (since she just typically kills the enemy as the rule) and goes to war for him. [[spoiler:The answer is that he's the first male to match her in any of the arts of war since she became a Vanadis, and she admired his bravery, since he didn't flinch or flee when she charged him, but instead tried to take her out with his remaining arrows.]]
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: Tigre's only real skill is archery. He solves a surprising number of problems by shooting something.
* WillTheyOrWontThey: With Elen [[spoiler:until the end of Volume 13]]. To a lesser extent with his other {{love interest}}s.

!!Titta

[[caption-width-right:300:Possessed by Tir na Va]]

The housemaid of the Vorn manor, and Tigre's childhood friend. Two years younger than Tigre, Titta is the daughter of a priestly family who took up service with the Vorns first as an escape from her priestly duties and later because she was crushing on Tigre. Titta spends the first volume awaiting Tigre's return to Alsace, and later follows him to war, and thereafter to Zhcted.

Her ancestors served the Goddess of Death, who has a keen interest in Tigre and therefore needs a vessel. At several points in the story the goddess has possessed Titta either to speak with Tigre or send him aid.
----
* ACupAngst: Titta is moderately or even generously endowed for her age DependingOnTheArtist, but the weight class of the competition gets her down sometimes.
* BettyAndVeronica: The Betty to Elen's Veronica.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Titta gets a little bit... ''strange'' sometimes. Namely when she's playing host to the local death god Tir na Va.
* ButtMonkey: Titta gets the crap kicked out of her in volume 1; she gets chased around the house, her clothes torn open, her knife knocked out of her hand and finally getting cornered and nearly violated by Zion while he mocks her.
* TheCaretaker: As Tigre's maid, she is responsible for preparing his meals and maintaining his house.
* ChildhoodFriends: She's been with Tigre ever since they were children.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: While Titta clearly wants something more, Tigre initially sees Titta as his little sister. [[spoiler:They eventually do the deed in Volume 15]].
* ClingyJealousGirl: She gets jealous whenever Tigre is around other girls.
* ClothingDamage:
** In Volume 1, Zion ruins her maid dress by cutting through most of it, exposing her bra, panties and legs.
** In Volume 3, her clothing also gets damaged after Tigre shoots an arrow at her when she is possessed by Tir na Va.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: When Titta found out that Tigre became a prisoner of war, she's much more worried more about Tigre being forced to marry to someone then getting sold off as a slave.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: She has matching brown hair and brown eyes.
* DefiantToTheEnd: When Zion infiltrates Tigre's mansion, Titta desperately attempts to drive him out. This does her no good, as Zion corners Titta and [[AttemptedRape attempts to rape her]] soon after.
* EyeColorChange: Titta’s eye color changes from brown to red when Tir na Va possesses her.
* GirlishPigtails: She wears twin pigtails in her usual outfit, although during some of the second arc, she turns it into a single pigtail.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: Titta’s eyes glow a bright red when Tir na Va possesses her body.
* HonorBeforeReason: In Volume 1, Titta watches over Tigre's mansion when Zion launches an assault on Alsace. She only starts to flee when Zion enters the mansion and is about to rape her. Why? Because Tigre told her to watch the mansion.
* {{Meido}}: Titta became a maid to stay near Tigre's side.
* MeaningfulName:"Titta" is Swedish for "to look."
* OhCrap:
** In volume 1, Titta gets this reaction [[RuleOfThree three times]]: first when Zion's troops invade Alsace, when Zion enters Tigre's house and ransacks it, and finally when she realizes that Zion is going to rape her.
** She does this again when Tigre shoots her in the second half of Volume 3, freeing her from Tir na Va's control.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: When she is possessed by Tir na Va, her eyes turn red.
* ShooOutTheClowns: Titta gets pushed aside for any major battle between Tigre and his enemies.
* SingleTargetSexuality: Is madly in love with Tigre, and isn't too happy with other women being around him and showing romantic interest in him as well.
* TheirFirstTime: [[spoiler:She has sex with Tigre during Volume 15]].
* ThrowTheDogABone: She is offered a place in Tigre's army as a maid and a medic.
* VoiceOfTheLegion: When she is possessed by Tir na Va, her voice changes to that of the latter.
* UndyingLoyalty: Towards Tigre. She stays in a town being raided by rapacious soldiers for him, joins an army to be near him, goes haring across a foreign country during the heart of winter to look for him...

* MentorOccupationalHazard: In Volume 5, he saves Tigre from certain death, but at the cost of his own life.
* ParentalSubstitute: For Tigre and Titta.
* SpannerInTheWorks: If Bertrand didn't infiltrate Zhcted on Mashas's orders, he would not have been captured by the Leitmeritz guards and Alsace's invasion would go unnoticed by either Tigre, Elen or Zhcted.
* TakingTheBullet: Bertrand jumps in to take Steed's attack which was meant for Tigre in Volume 5.

!!Urs Vorn
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/JurotaKosugi (Japanese), Creator/KentWilliams (English)

----
* PassingTheTorch: From Urs to Tigre when it comes to safeguarding Alsace.
* PosthumousCharacter: Died long before the story started, but his character is brought up several times as a means to help develop Tigre into a man as great as he once was, and to show that Tigre once had a great connection with him.

[[folder:Territoire]]

!!Viscount Hughes Augre

* NiceGuy: Decides to help Tigre in his time of need.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Compared to every other noble Tigre came up to, Hughes actually agreed to help him as long as Tigre did something for him in return. Hughes ''did'' follow through on the deal.

!!Royal Secretary Gerard Augre
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/TomoakiMaeno (Japanese), Creator/IanSinclair (English)

* DeadpanSnarker: He likes to use sarcasm with others, especially Tigre and Ryurik.
* MeaningfulName: Gerard is an old Germanic word derived from the words “spear” and “brave.” Gerard is a brave person who would often use weapons in battle.
* PutOnABus: He is mostly absent throughout the second arc due to his work as Brune’s secretary.
* RedIsHeroic: He wears a red coat in his civilian uniform, just like his father.
* TheStrategist: Becomes this for the Silver Meteor Army after Lim had to temporarily leave the Brune Kingdom with Elen.

!!Donalbein

The leader of the bandits that have been giving the people of Territoire a rough time.
----
* CharacterDeath: Tigre kills him so that he can complete a deal with Hughes to gain his soldiers.
* TheLeader: Of Territoire's bandits.
* PragmaticAdaptation: While the battle against him took a chapter in the second light novel, the manga completely skips over him with only a brief mention of the aftermath and the anime adapts it out.

[[folder:Knights of Navarre]]

!!Roland
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/HirokiTochi (Japanese), Creator/VicMignogna (English)

The leader of the Knights of Navarre; a group of elite soldiers who safeguard the western border of Brune from attacks by the neighboring kingdom of Sachstein. He wields the mighty sword {{Durandal}}.

----
* AntiMagic: Durandal can nullify the Viralts' powers.
* ArcVillain: He serves as this for Volume 3.
* BlackKnight: His nickname in battle, given that he wears black armor and has black hair and is an all-around badass.
* {{BFS}}: Durandal is a broadsword about as long as he is tall.
* CaptainErsatz: His severe yet mature personality, surprisingly young age, hairstyle, and Humongous sword are all similar to [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Sanger Zonvolt]].
* CharacterDeath: Ganelon traps him in a room to be stung to death by bees at the beginning of Volume 4 for failing to kill Tigre.
* DefiantToTheEnd: In spite of his torturous fate, he [[DiedStandingUp dies standing up]] with a DeathGlare.
* DiedStandingUp: His corpse remains standing even when grotesquely swollen from all the bee stings.
* TheDreaded: The very mention of his name instills people with fear; even after his death.
* TheDragon: Thenardier’s second one in the first arc.
* HeelFaceDoorSlam: When he is defeated by Tigre at the end of Volume 3, Roland decides to plead his cause to King Faron. However, Ganelon ends up trapping him in a room containing bees and Roland gets stung to death.
* TheLeader: Of the Order of Navarre until his death at the beginning of Volume 4.
* OneManArmy: He's so powerful that ''two'' Vanadis were struggling against him.
* RedBaron: The “Black Knight”. He lives up to this name.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: After realizing Tigre’s true intentions at the end of Volume 3, he doesn’t stay alive for long.

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/TakehitoKoyasu (Japanese), Creator/JasonDouglas (English)

The king of Brune.

The death of Faron's son at the Battle of Dinant took a huge toll on his sanity; reducing his mind to that of a sick, 5-year-old, child. As a result, he stays locked in his throne room, and stays out of the political affairs going on outside. To which Thenardier and Ganelon claim themselves as "temporary" leaders of Brune.

----
* BigGood: He is this alongside Viktor for the first arc until Regin takes over towards the end of Volume 5.
* CharacterDeath: He dies near the end of Volume 5 due to Ganelon poisoning him.
* DespairEventHorizon: The death of his only child caused him to retreat into seclusion. At least, that's the story...
* TheGoodKing: He serves as the wise King of Brune for most of the first arc until his death in volume 5.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: He has blonde hair and is a very personable king.
* HeadInTheSandManagement: As a reasonable King, he tries to stop the power struggle between Ganelon and Thenardier due to Regin's birth. He manages to disguise Regin as a boy named Regnas. Predictably, it doesn't end well thanks to Ganelon poisoning him and [[UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom Elen]] launching an assault on Brune.
* HeroicBSOD: All he can do is isolate himself in his bedroom when his heir seemingly dies at Dinant.
* MinorMajorCharacter: Despite his role as King of Brune, Faron only appears in the first and fifth volumes.
* MeaningfulName: Faron means a “good-looking servant” in Old English and Soleil means sun in French.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He tries to help with serious situations, such as when he dispatches Regnas, Tigre and his allies to fight Zhcted in the Dinant Plains, but it does little good in deescalating the dispute between Ganelon and Thenardier.
* SanitySlippage: The loss of his son (actually daughter) leaves him locked up in his room, playing with blocks like a toddler. He gets better mentally, but not physically.
* TamperingWithFoodAndDrink: Ganelon's been poisoning him, possibly for years. That's the real reason he's disappeared from public view.
* TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth: He dies after the Brune civil war. For a monarch who suffered the trauma of losing his only heir to Ganelon’s poisoning, he was a kind-hearted man who ruled Brune with justice.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: In Volume 1, he sends Regnas and a fleet of 25,000 soldiers to the Dinant Plains. Unfortunately, Elen takes Tigre for ransom and Regnas seemingly perishes, which is one of the causes for Brune's civil war.
* UnwittingPawn: It only takes a few choice words from Ganelon to Faron to seal Zhcted's impending invasion of Brune in their favor.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: Faron's only forty-one when he dies, but due to Ganelon's poisoning of his food and drink, staying on his sick bed, and lack of sun exposure, he comes off as an pale and exhausted old man.

The daughter of King Faron of Brune who took on the name Regnas and posed as a boy for her mother because of the scorn she might receive if the heir was a girl.

Forced to escape a group of Thenardier's assassins during Elen's assault in the Dinant Plains, Regnas goes into exile in Agnes under her true name. During Brune's Civil War, she is eventually discovered by Tigre in Agnes during Muozinel’s invasion. After Thenardier's death and the end of Brune's civil war, she returns to Brune and becomes Queen following her father's death.

----
* AchillesInHisTent: After being attacked by assassins sent by Thenardier at the Dinant Plains, Regin exiles herself to Agnes with Jessica, leaving Thenardier and Ganelon to their own plans.
* TheAloner: After Jessica’s death, Regin became a loner in Agnes.
* {{Bifauxnen}}: Regin was really the prince Regnas who pretended to be a male to get the throne.
* BigGood: She is the Queen of Brune following the death of her father Faron after Brune’s civil war is finished.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Tigre. They met during their excursions outside their homes.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: Regin was Tigre's childhood friend and fell in love with him after he hunted a bird for her.
* TheExile: Thenardier's assassination attempt on Regin (as Regnas), Faron's poisoning, and Elen's victory at the Dinant Plains causes Regin to exile herself, disappearing from everything and everyone believes that Regnas is dead.
* FakingTheDead: In the first arc of the story after her escape at the Dinant Plains.
* TheHermit: After fleeing from the Dinant Plains, she spent much of the first arc away from being involved in wars. Upon Jessica’s death, Regin completely isolated herself in order to avoid being pursued by Thenardier’s forces.
* TheHighQueen: At the end of Volume 5, following Faron’s death, she becomes next in line as the first queen of Brune.
* InTheHood: She wears a hood during her exile after her escape from the Dinant Plains.
* LastOfHerKind: In Volume 5, Faron dies due to the poison, leaving Regin, and ironically, Melisande Thenardier, as remaining survivors of the nobility. After Volume 12, [[spoiler:Melisande is dead, which means that Regin is the sole survivor of House Charles.]]
* MeaningfulName: Regin is named after Reginn, the dwarf smith of Norse mythology. It also means “ruler’s advisor” in Latin. Estelle is French for star, Loire is named after a river in France and Bastien is the French variant for Sebastien, a male name. Fittingly enough, her male name, Regnas, is Latin for “reign”.
* PassingTheTorch: She becomes Queen of Brune following her father’s death at the end of Volume 5.
* PetTheDog: [[spoiler:When Melisande is mortally wounded, Regin and Melisande act like they genuinely care for each other and Regin is saddened by what had just happened]].
* PlotTriggeringDeath: Regnas’s assumed demise starts off the first arc. {{Subverted|Trope}} near the end of the arc, in which she was alive all along.
* RequisiteRoyalRegalia: Since becoming Queen, she wears a variety of royal outfits.
* RightfulQueenReturns: Faron is poisoned by Ganelon, and Regnas is sent out to fight Zhcted. The prince [[FakingTheDead fakes his death]] and goes incognito after Brune’s defeat at the Dinant Plains. In Volume 4, the prince's true identity is revealed to be Regin, a girl. After Thenardier’s defeat, Regin returns to Brune, where Faron acknowledges that Regin is his heir. After the king's death, Regin assumes the throne.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: She is a royal monarch who gets involved in important matters such as the Muozinellian invasion in Volume 14.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: In Volume 12, [[spoiler: Badowin reminds her to seek an alternative way of announcing of Melisande’s death out of fear of some of the public not accepting it, but Regin decides to go along with announcing Melisande's death and the truth behind the uprising]].
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: When Regin (as Regnas) is assaulted by Thenardier’s assassins at the Dinant Plains in Volume 1, she decides to bail out and [[FakingTheDead fake her death]].
* TopWife: [[spoiler:Tigre gets with eight women by the end of the story, but Regin's position of royalty gets her the official position of his wife, while the other seven are technically concubines.]]
* UnsettlingGenderReveal: In volume 4, Regin reveals that she was really the prince named Regin all this time due to females being unable to claim the throne.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Her FakingTheDead in the Dinant Plains helps plant the seeds for Brune's civil war. It's not her fault, however; if she had revealed her true identity, things may have turned out different and Thenardier and Ganelon would have gone on with their plans.
* WalkingSpoiler: As you can see, it's just hard to discuss her without mentioning a huge twist occurring in Volume 4.

Originally from Nemetacum, he is one of Brune's two strongest ministers vying for the throne, and follows the belief that only the strongest can survive; controlling an army built around sheer destructive power.

Thenardier orders for the burning of Alsace due to Tigre being taken prisoner; finding that the territory is now a stain on Brune's reputation. However, the failed invasion, which also resulted in the death of his son, took its toll on Felix; destroying the little humanity he had remaining, and swearing to kill Tigre and his rebel followers out of revenge.
----
* ArcVillain: The main antagonist of Volumes 1-5.
* BigBadDuumvirate: With Ganelon for most of the first arc. They fight each other for the throne when King Faron contracts an illness and Thenardier organizes an assault on Alsace after Tigre is captured by Elen, leading to the kingdom’s civil war. 351* FatalFlaw: His ambition and desire for {{Revenge}}.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: By Tigre, who shoots an arrow in the head at the end of Volume 1.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: He wears red and black armor as well as a red jacket in his regular clothes, and is one of the [[BigBad Big Bads]].
* {{Revenge}}: Swears to kill Tigre, and his followers, out of revenge for the death of his son.
* SocialDarwinist: Like his father before him, and his grandfather before that, if you're "weak" you have no right to call yourself "human" and deserve to be cut down.
* WorthyOpponent: He grudgingly acknowledges Tigre as a capable warrior.
* YouKilledMyFather: Or in his case, "You Killed My Son." After Volume 1, he plots revenge on Tigre for his part in Zion’s death. Needless to say, it doesn't end well for him.

* BaldOfEvil: He has no hair on his head and is the BigBad.
* BigBad: Along with the demons, Ganelon is the definitive main antagonist of the series. Most of the conflicts are the result of his meticulous planning.
** In the first arc, he poisons King Faron to arrange his rise as one of the monarch and rivals to Duke Thenardier. It eventually leads Elen’s invasion of Brune and Brune's civil war. 380* TheChessmaster:
** The way he started the civil war in Brune. First, he poisons King Faron, which resulted in Faron leaving Ganelon and Thenardier unchecked. All of that resulted in Zhcted’s victory at the Dinant Plains. This also paved the way to the civil war in Brune.
** He also [[spoiler:ordered his allies to steal {{Durandal}}, and now he intends to cause chaos in Zhcted and Brune by attempting to unleash Tir na Va into the real world and absorb her powers]].
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: He turns on everyone who trusts him when he decides that they are no longer useful.
* ClimaxBoss: [[spoiler:Despite being one of the most powerful villains of the series, he's technically not the FinalBoss. That's Tina, who is the only Vanadis with an active Viralt after the others use up their powers to stop Ganelon.]]
* DarkIsEvil: The gravelly voice, demonic eyes, dark clothes and wrinkled skin is enough to tip anyone off that Ganelon is definitely not a good guy.
* DeadpanSnarker: On occasion, he lets out some snarky comments towards his friends and enemies alike.
* DevilInDisguise: In Volume 10, he is confirmed to be a demon named Koschei.
* DevourTheDragon: Combined with EatingTheEnemy. He devours Baba Yaga in this manner at the end of Volume 10.
* DiabolicalMastermind: He orchestrated the first arc’s civil war as a means of gaining power against Thenardier.
* DoNotCallMePaul: He rejects the use of his demon name, Koschei, and prefers to be called by Ganelon.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: Ganelon didn't really consider [[spoiler:Tir na Va helping Tigre kill him]].
%%* EvilCounterpart: To Faron and Regin.
* EvilSorcerer: He’s very powerful with magic.
* EvilSoundsRaspy: His raspy voice is horrifying.
* FakingTheDead: He fakes his own death in Volume 5 after realizing that he is on the verge of losing the war against Thenardier. He is at-large with his underling, Greast, under Tina's protection.
* FauxAffablyEvil: He is fairy well-spoken and respectful despite being a powerful demon. Except for [[spoiler:the fact that he is planning to take over Zhcted]].
* GambitPileup: His rise to power Brune requires a lot of planning, serving as TheChessmaster and a ManipulativeBastard that relies on PlayingBothSides. This involves poisoning Faron, helping to start Brune's civil war with Thenardier, summoning Roland and the Order of Navarre to attack Tigre, having Greast plunder villages, killing Roland for his failures, burning down his own land so he can fake his own death, getting sheltered by Tina, tricking Kazakov into rescuing Tigre from Liza's hands, helping the dissolution of House Kazakov, having Greast steal Durandal from Regin, [[spoiler:and planning to release Tir na Va into the human world]].
* GreaterScopeVillain: Along with Thenardier, Ganelon was the one that set Brune’s civil war in motion. Him poisoning Faron leads to a dispute with Thenardier and he indirectly caused Elen to take Tigre prisoner.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Ganelon spends the series causing destruction and chaos in the kingdom. At the end of volume 17, [[spoiler:when Tir na Va and eventually absorbed by Ganelon, it turns on him and teams up with Tigre to kill the bastard once and for all]].
* {{Jerkass}}: An even bigger one than Zion, Tina or the {{Arc Villain}}s, due to him being the BigBad of the series.

* TamperingWithFoodAndDrink: Ganelon put a deadly poison in Faron's drink, causing him to be sick. It would eventually lead to Brune's civil war.
* TooDumbToLive: Not only did he attempt to use [[spoiler:Tir na Va]] for his own ambitions, but Ganelon considered it as expendable. 419
Zion is first introduced instigating a fight with Tigre before he took part in the Battle of Dinant. However, Zion survived, and turns up again after the war where his father orders him to raise Alsace to the ground.
----
* AbusiveParents: Given that he was raised by his father, it comes off as no surprise.
* AlasPoorVillain: Despite all the despicable things he has done, Zion's father clearly loved him.
* AristocratsAreEvil: He sees peasants and vassals as nothing more than livestock or renewable crops.
* AttemptedRape: He attempts to rape Titta during the Alsace invasion after cornering her in Tigre's mansion, but fortunately, it gets interrupted thanks to [[BigDamnHeroes Tigre and Elen’s intervention]].
* DeathByPragmatism: Tries to flee a losing battle on dragonback. Tigre shoots him down with a little help from Elen's draconic tool.
* DirtyCoward: Despite having not one, but two dragons, and an army twice that of Tigre's he fled Alsace the moment he met any actual resistance.
* TheDragon: He serves under his father's command during Volume 1.
* [[EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas Even Bad Men Love Their Papas]]: He clearly loves his father in spite of being a cruel and sadistic person.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He may be the son of an aristocrat and a merciless soldier, but he draws the line at attacking temples because he knows that if they do so, all of Brune’s temples will turn on him. In the anime, he also reveals that he can't use dragons in Alsace as it would go against his father’s wishes.
* GoodColorsEvilColors: He wears pink and red, indicating his evil nature.
* HateSink: Even for just the single volume he appeared in, his evil is really over the top. After mocking Tigre for using a bow, attacking Alsace, [[AttemptedRape trying to rape Titta]] and flying off on a dragon, abandoning all his men to save only himself, his death is rather satisfying.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Decries Tigre for being captured by Elen, proclaiming Tigre should have fought until his weapon broke instead of trying to run away. (Despite the fact that Tigre ''did'' indeed fight until his weapon failed.) Guess what he does the moment he faces actual combat as opposed to butchery of unarmed peasants? Never mind using archers on Tigre despite condemning Tigre's use of a hunting bow at the start of the story.
* ImpaledPalm: Tigre interrupts Zion's assault on Titta by shooting through his right hand.
* {{Jerkass}}: Not only did he ruthlessly belittle Tigre for his archery skills before Elen's assault at the Dinant Plains, but he also tried to invade Alsace and attempt to rape Titta to further insult Tigre.
* KickTheDog:
** He mocks Tigre like all Brunish citizens do to archers at the beginning of Volume 1.
** During the assault on Alsace, he infiltrates the Vorn mansion and attempts to rape Titta. [[TheDogBitesBack This turns out to be a bad move]].
* LikeFatherLikeSon: Like his father, Zion is ruthless to almost everyone and view archers as cowards like most of Brune's citizens, ''especially'' Tigre.
* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: He tries to sadistically rape Titta, but it doesn't go well for him.
* RealMenWearPink: His standard uniform and armor is colored pink.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: He wears red and pink armor, has black hair and is a villain.
* ShortLivedAerialEscape: When the battle against Tigre goes badly for him, he tries to flee on a flying wind dragon. Tigre and Elen obliterate him and his mount via CombinationAttack.
* StarterVillain: He is this for the first saga, and the series in general.
* TooDumbToLive: It’s unwise to invade Tigre's mansion, rape Titta when she point blank tells you to get out of the mansion, and mock Tigre for his archery skills and his affiliation with Zhcted.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: He seriously underestimates Tigre’s archery skills and nobility. Zion pays for this with his life.
* VillainExitStageLeft: Once Tigre saves Titta, he is forced to flee. He attempts to do this at the end of Volume 1 when Tigre bests him, but it doesn't work out, as Tigre and Elen kill him.
* WouldHitAGirl: When Thenardier's forces launch an assault on Alsace, Zion enters Tigre's mansion and tries to rape Titta after seriously damaging her clothes. Fortunately, Tigre impedes Zion and rescues Titta just in time.

Due to her blue blooded status, alongside with House Thenardier's loyalist and supporters, Melisande will do however it takes to overthrow Regin and becoming Brune's new ruler, even allying all to restore Brune's former glory.
----
* AlasPoorVillain: Despite all her despicable criminal and villainous history, Regin, her attempted murder victim, felt nothing but pity and sorrow for long list of tragedies.
* BigBad: The main antagonist of volumes 11-12.
* {{Blue Blood}}: Melisande claims to be due to her connection to her late uncle Faron and House Thenardier.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Even as one of main villains, Melisande loves her family, especially Thenardier and Zion.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:She gets herself stabbed by the fake Durandal's shard after falling down a hole at the end of Volume 12.]]
* LastOfHerKind: In the first arc, Tigre killed Thenardier and their son Zion, [[spoiler:leaving her the sole survivor of House Thenardier]]. After Volume 12, [[spoiler:Melisande is dead, which means that House Thenardier is no more and it ironically leaves Regin the last surviving member of the Brunish nobility descended from Charles.]]
* MeaningfulName: Melisande is named after the character of the same name from the stage play ‘’Pelleas and Melisande’’ by Maurice Maeterlinck, as well as the compositions of the same name by Arnold Schoenberg and Music/ClaudeDebussy.
* MoralMyopia: She's no stranger to Thenardier's methods, and history, yet sees nothing wrong with any of it, including the attempted razing of Alsace. Yet, when Tigre kills him in a duel, demanded by Thenardier himself, no less, which, under Thenardier's own laws, makes Tigre, the rightful successor, she considers it an unforgivable crime, and swears vengeance, starting with open rebellion and treason against the rightful Queen, by blood.
* NotTheFallThatKillsYou: [[spoiler:Melisande falls into a hole, but dies after she breaks her neck and gets impaled with the fake Durandal]].
* {{Revenge}}: Swears to kill Tigre and allies out of revenge for the death of her family.

* SheWhoFightsMonsters: [[spoiler:Melisande wants to restore House Thenardier through any means necessary.]]
* TheStarscream: Even when King Faron was alive, she was all to eager to help her husband ascend the throne, through treason, and treachery.
* TooDumbToLive: [[spoiler:Melisande is determined to expose Regin as an unworthy ruler and avenge Tigre for killing her family. But her plot for revenge has clouded her intentions. She ends up getting killed by the fake Durandal, and her death spells the end of the Thenardiers once and for all]].

----

* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler:Denis uses Greast's own torture devices to kill him]].

!Kingdom of Zhcted

The largest kingdom located on the eastern side of Brune, Zhcted was founded by a knight known as the Black Dragon King and the seven goddesses, known as the Vanadis (or war maidens), serve as the guardians of peace and justice for over 300 years. The war maidens are also known for their military strength and power. Each of its territories can work their own agenda as long as they put the well-being of their kingdom first on the list. Zhcted gets involved in Brune's civil war when the Leitmeritz war maiden Eleonora Viltaria helps Alsace native Tigrevurmud Vorn save his homeland after taking him prisoner. Following the civil war, Zhcted improved its relationship.

[[folder:In General]]

----
* ActionGirl: The Vanadis are extremely competent fighters and commanders who can take enemy forces and demons head-on.
* BadassArmy: Their armies make them one of the most powerful kingdoms in Europe.
* BareMidriffsAreFeminine: All seven Vanadis wear midriff-baring outfits, which represents both their power and femininity since only they would wear such outfits on the battlefield. Limalisha is the only other major female character who also bares her midsection in casual wear (her outfit is very similar to Elen's), and she's a TomboyWithAGirlyStreak. After Volume 10, Liza wears a new dress that doesn't show her stomach.
* BattleBallgown: The war maidens' regular attire tend to be used in battle and when they are not fighting.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: Most of the war maidens are considered great beauties due to their sizable busts.
* EmpathicWeapon: All of the Dragonic Tools are semi-sentient and choose their wielders when they become war maidens.
* FantasyCounterpartCulture: Zhcted is an Eastern European country combining various different Slavic cultures.
* FourStarBadass: Most of the war maidens demonstrate how badass they are when they get involved one way or another in wars or campaigns.
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: All the war maidens wear their [[BattleBallgown Battle Ballgowns]] while fighting and it doesn’t even slow them down.
* LadyOfWar: The Vanadis ride into battle with elegant (and revealing) outfits compared to the mundane armor worn by their soldiers, and gracefully wield their supernatural weapons to mow down their enemies.
* MasterApprenticeChain:
** Vissarion > Elen, Lim and Fine
** Eugene Sharavin > Elen, Lim and Fine
** Naum > Liza
* MilitaryMage: The war maidens often act as officers of commanding armies.
* MsFanservice: The war maidens are quite attractive, considering the fact that they wear form-fitting uniforms.
* NationalWeapon: The war maidens are selected by their Dragonic Tools after their titles are bestowed.
* NomDeGuerre: Every single one of the war maidens have these.
* OneManArmy: A single war maiden is all it takes to wipe out an army.
* OnlyTheChosenMayWield: The Vanadis are women who have been chosen by their [[EmpathicWeapon Viralts]] to wield them.
* PrettyPrincessPowerhouse: While not technically royals, they hold the highest authority in Zchted after the King, their epithets all contain "Princess", and they're each considered equivalent to 1,000 soldiers.
* PsychoactivePowers: A Dragonic Tool reacts to the wielder's emotional state.
* RuleOfSeven: There are seven Dragonic Tools marking seven women as Vanadis for Zhcted's seven territories.

The wielder of the Dragonic sword of wind, Arifal, and the lord of the Leitmeritz territory in the Zhcted Kingdom.

Strong-willed and determined, Elen is known for taking her enemy head-on at the front of the army. Elen meets Tigre during the Battle of Dinant as bitter enemies; facing off against each other in combat. Elen defeats Tigre, but she acknowledges his skill with the bow, and turns Tigre into her "prisoner of war" to not have his abilities go to waste. Alongside Tigre, the two lead the charge of rebellion under the banner of the Silver Meteor Army to end the Brune civil war.

----
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: Not only is she the war maiden of Leitmeritz, but she is a capable fighter and commander.
* BabiesEverAfter: At the end of the series, [[spoiler:she has a child with Tigre]].
* BackToBackBadasses: With Mila in Volume 5 and Liza in Volume 10.
* BadassCape: Wears a red/blue/white mini-cape as part of her standard uniform.

* BenevolentBoss: Treats her companions quite nicely, but tends to tease them a lot.
* BettyAndVeronica: The Veronica to Titta's Betty, for Tigre's Archie. Ironically, she's the Betty for most of Tigre's other love interests.
* BigBreastPride: Very proud of her figure, especially when she can tease someone (mainly [[ACupAngst Mila]]) with it.
* BloodKnight: A surprising female example. The series started with Eleonora being disappointed in how easy the army she just defeated was but then came across Tigre who actually put up a good fight, earning her interest.
* BlowYouAway: Elen's main power, thanks to her Dragonic Tool.
* BlueIsHeroic: Her BattleBallgown is mostly colored blue.
* BoyMeetsGirl: How she meets Tigre at the beginning of Volume 1.
* BreakTheCutie: [[spoiler:By the time Volume 13 rolls around, she ends up getting separated from Tigre by Greast's army, and is captured, tortured and mentally broken by Greast. That lasts until Tigre snaps her out of it by the volume's end.]]
* BreedingSlave: [[spoiler: In the Michelia timeline, she is captured by a forest demon and 20 days after her imprisonment, her body is used to birth doppelgangers.]]
* ClingyJealousGirl: Elen shows increasing shades of this toward Tigre as time goes on, reiterating that he "belongs" to her whenever another girl (particularly Mila) starts making advances on him.
* TheCoatsAreOff: In Volume 2, she wears a coat during her walk to the Tatra Mountains’s citadel. She removes it when she is about to lead the charge.
* ColdBloodedTorture: In Volume 13, [[spoiler:she is subjected to a very brutal one of these courtesy of Greast.]]
* ColorMotifs: Silver. She has silver hair, wields a silver longsword whose kanji reads "Silver Flash", leads a Zhcted-Brune army with Tigre called the Silver Meteor Army, and was previously in a mercenary group called Silver Gale.
* CombatPragmatist: This is Elen's style of fighting.
-->'''Elen:''' I fight to win. I don't bother choosing a specific method, nor am I burdened by such useless things.
* CoolBigSis: Towards her companions.
* CoolSword: Elen's Dragonic Tool, Arifal, a staple for any war maiden.
* CostumePorn: She often wears a gold hairpin and red feathers while wearing her BattleBallgown.
* DefiledForever: [[spoiler:Her captivity under Greast involved everything just short of rape (he wanted to do that in front of Tigre). While her chastity was kept intact by the time she was rescued, she can't help but feel traumatized despite acknowledging that other girls has been through worse.]]
* {{Determinator}}: She even [[spoiler:survives an AttemptedRape at the hands of Greast.]]
* DisproportionateRetribution: Tigre is appalled by how casually she offers to execute three of her own men for trying to make him look bad with a faulty bow.
* TheDogBitesBack: By the time she first meets Greast, she is furious for disregarding his people and plundering towns. In Volume 13, [[spoiler:Greast's ColdBloodedTorture and AttemptedRape causes Elen to finally snap. 640* DoomedHometown: The village she lived in before becoming a Vanadis was burned down by Liza to stop the spread of a epidemic. [[spoiler:Her birth village was also ravaged by a group of bandits, with Vissarion adopting her as a baby.]]
* {{Doppelganger}}: [[spoiler:In the Michelia timeline, a demon impersonates her appearance to cause trouble for the other factions.]]

* DrowningMySorrows: [[spoiler:Following Greast’s demise in Volume 13, Elen spends some time drinking wine to get over her AttemptedRape. Thanks to Tigre's intervention, she snaps out of it]].
* {{Expy}}: [[WordOfStPaul Funimation]] revealed that she resembles Nike, the Winged Goddess of Victory in Greek mythology.
* ForgottenFriendNewFoe: With Elizaveta. Elen inspired her to stand up for herself and defend herself as a child, which directly led to Liza having the qualities Valitsaif looks for in a Vanadis. Liza would earn Elen's hostility for burning down a village where once lived to stop epidemic, and the feelings would become mutual after Elen killed Liza's father for his crimes. Liza has always recognized her, but Elen didn't realize that the eyepatch-wearing girl she defended in the past was Liza until she was directly told in Volume 16.
* FrontlineGeneral: She leads the Zhcted army on several occasions, most notably in the Battle of Dinant, Brune's civil war and [[spoiler:the Sachstein invasion]].

* GoodColorsEvilColors: She has silvery-white hair and white skin, wears blue and red clothing, has red eyes and is one of the heroes of the series.
* GoodIsNotSoft: She’s never afraid to use violent solutions.
* HeartbrokenBadass: In Volumes 7 and 8, she is clearly distraught over Tigre’s disappearance as well as Sasha's death.
* HeroesPreferSwords: Her fighting style focuses on swordsmanship with her Arifal.
* HeroicBSOD: She has three of these:
** In Volume 7, she goes through a brief one for five days after Tigre disappears.
** In Volume 8, she suffers another one when Sasha dies.
** In Volume 13, Elen falls into a ''major'' one along with a DespairEventHorizon. [[spoiler:After Greast's demise, she locks herself in her room and resorts to drinking wine, still traumatized by his AttemptedRape and ashamed of herself for struggling to get over it when her chastity at least remained intact. Only after she and Tigre confess to each other and [[IntimatePsychotherapy have sex]] does she start to recover.]]
* HotBlooded: She has a fierce disposition in battle.
* IfItsYouItsOkay: Played with. She's offered to let Tigre marry Lim, whom she's very protective of.
* IntimatePsychotherapy: [[spoiler:Despite her trauma from Greast's sexual assault, she accepts Tigre's request to have sex with her, hoping that he can overwrite the experience Greast put her through. Mutual confessions and consensual sex with the man she loves made her feel a lot better.]]
* {{Irony}}: The one Vanadis that she can't ever get along with? Liza. Who became a Vanadis because Elen taught her how to stand up for herself as a child.

* LivingEmotionalCrutch: She becomes this for Tigre after they rescue Alsace and defeat Zion.
* LoveAtFirstSight: Invoked in Volume 1 when she talks about why she took him as prisoner at the Dinant Plains while in Leitmeritz. She says that she found his archery skills impressive.
* LustObject: Greast lusts over her, so much that [[spoiler:when he captured her in Volume 12, he proceeds to torture her. Needless to say, it doesn’t end well for him.]]
* MasterSwordswoman: She managed to kill quite a few dragons and also equally matched Roland’s swordplay.
* MeaningfulName: Eleonora is the European and Scandinavian cognate of Eleanor, which means "the bright one." Eleonora’s skin and hair are colored white.
* MirrorCharacter: To Elizaveta. They met during their backstories, and their respective first meetings with Tigre played out in similar fashion. The big conflict between the two of them is mostly a misunderstanding; Liz is much less concerned with her dead father than anyone realizes.
* MistressAndServantBoy: The mistress to Tigre's servant boy through volume 1. The relationship is much more equal past that.
* MsFanservice: Though all of the Vanadis are attractive, Elen is arguably the most fanservicey of them all with her MysticalWhiteHair and various official artworks that highlight her gorgeous, curvy figure.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: She discovers that Tigre has disappeared during their fight with Torbalan after letting him leave for Asvarre to stop their civil war, and regrets it.

* NomDeGuerre: She is known as the "Danseuse of the Sword" and the "Wind Princess of the Silver Flash".
* OfficialCouple: In Volume 13, [[spoiler:she and Tigre become this after they profess their love for each other]].
* OhCrap:
** When she sees the oncoming dragons in the Battle of Molsheim in Volume 1.
** She has another one when the Serrash assassins corner her group in Volume 2.
** She is utterly shocked when her initial attack on the citadel in Olmütz alerts Mila’s army to her presence. And has another one the last Serrash assassin is about to kill her and Mila during their fight in the Tatra Fortress.
** She is surprised when Roland badly wounds Tigre in Volume 3.
* OneWomanArmy: One of the most prominent of the Vanadis. She has managed to wipe out the Brunish army in one fell swoop in Dinant, slaughtered dragons, nearly bested Roland with her swordsmanship and held her own against demons and other armies.
* PrimaryColorChampion: She wears a blue-and-red BattleBallgown, has silvery-white hair and white skin, red eyes, and she is one of the main heroines.
* RapeLeadsToInsanity: At the end of Volume 13, [[spoiler:Elen loses her mind due to Greast’s ColdBloodedTorture and AttemptedRape]]. She snaps out of it when [[spoiler:Tigre professes his love for her, though]].
* RazorWind: Her Ley Admos technique involves her Arifal firing off a blast of wind at objects, and it can even ''kill'' dragons.
* RedBaron: Elen is known as the Silvfrau - the Wind Princess of the Silver Flash - and the Meltis - the Danseuse of the Sword.
* RedOniBlueOni: She is the Red to Tigre's, Mila's, Titta's and Lim's Blue, being the hot-blooded and passionate fighter.
* RelationshipUpgrade: In Volume 13, [[spoiler:Elen and Tigre finally profess their love for each other]].
* SingleTargetSexuality: Falls in love with Tigre at first due to his skill with the bow, as well as his bravery while she charged him. Later she keeps telling everyone she "owns" him, having taken him prisoner, which also doesn't sit well with Titta.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: She initially valued Tigre just for his archery, but gradually fell for his generosity and valor during battle.
* SlummingIt: Regularly sneaks out of her palace to spend time among her people, [[KingIncognito incognito]].
* SitcomArchNemesis: With Mila, thanks to their first meeting going spectacularly wrong.
* StarCrossedLovers: [[spoiler:It's eventually {{Subverted|Trope}} with Tigre. In the first two arcs, due to their respective roles as a war maiden and a count requiring them to be in different situations, they were often star-crossed.]]
* StormingTheCastle: She and Tigre led the assault on the Tatra Mountains.
* SupportingProtagonist: She becomes this to Tigre after meeting him.
* TraumaCongaLine: In Volume 13, Elen is [[spoiler:separated from Tigre and captured and tortured by Greast for several days.]] After all of this, it’s no wonder she crossed the DespairEventHorizon.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Elen annihilates the Brune army on the Dinant Plains and captures Tigre as her prisoner for a potential ransom. Her actions inadvertently lead to Zion's attempted invasion of Alsace and the start of Brune's civil war as a whole.
* WhiteStallion: She rides her white horse in battles.

* DualWielding: [[spoiler: In the Carnwenhan Timeline, Limalisha wields the titular twin sword Carnwenhan, a weapon on par with the Black Bow and the Viralts of the Vanadis.]]
* HeroOfAnotherStory: Limalisha is the main heroine of the ''Madan no Ou to Seisen no Carnwenhan'' AlternateContinuity.
* HyperCompetentSidekick: In any other position with any other master she would be one, as is she's "just" Elen's NumberTwo. When officially assigned to Tigre she is one.
* IHaveThisFriend: She asked Titta if she could have a bear doll along the wall as she has a friend who loves them. Though Lim is terrible at being subtle of her own interest in them as when Titta responds saying it's dirty, Lim replies saying she doesn't mind.
* MasterSwordswoman: As shown during her battles with Elen and Tigre.
* MentorArchetype: Serves as one of Tigre’s mentors during his time as Elen’s prisoner before Zion’s invasion of Alsace.

* ShockAndAwe: Liza's main ability thanks to her Dragon Tool, Valitsaif.
* ATragedyOfImpulsiveness: Liza has a tendency to make decisions without thinking them through or without considering others and it's one of the reasons for her descent into darkness. Liza's impatience to match up with Elen results in her making a DealWithTheDevil with Baba Yaga.
* UnknownRival: Elen knows that they don't get along. What she doesn't know is that Liza looks up to and admires her, and is trying to surpass her for personal reasons.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: If Liza hadn't pulled a DealWithTheDevil with Baba Yaga and developed a bitter rivalry with Elen following Rodian’s death, her invasion of Legnica during Brune's civil war would not have occurred and she would not have met Tigre.
* UnwittingPawn: She becomes one to Baba Yaga [[spoiler:after forming a DealWithTheDevil with her]].
* WeUsedToBeFriends: With Elen after her TroubledBackstoryFlashback.
* WhatBeautifulEyes: She thinks the sentiment is shallow. Tigre telling her they remind him of a cat is the first time she's felt someone was being honest with their impression.
* YouKilledMyFather: To Elen, since she killed Rodian in her TroubledBackstoryFlashback.

!!Naum

A veteran knight loyal to Liza who acts as her supervisor.

* AgentScully: He was skeptical of Tigre being chosen as Liza's servant.
* DislikesTheNewGuy: At first, he has misgivings towards Tigre, but eventually becomes one of his closest allies.
* FourStarBadass: He’s a general of Lebus and has some fighting skills left in him.
* HeroesPreferSwords: Like most of the Zhcted soldiers and officers, he uses a sword as a weapon.
* LoyalToThePosition: His first loyalty is to the Vanadis of Lebus. However, he's very proud of Liza on a personal level.
* MasterApprenticeChain: She is Liza’s master.
* MeaningfulName: Naum is the Russian form of Nahum, a character from the Holy Bible.
* MentorArchetype: To Liza; he teaches her the necessities to be a good lord.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He teaches Liza to become a good lord for her people, and is always willing to listen to reason.
* UndyingLoyalty: He is very loyal to Liza.

!!Lazarl

An old civil official of Lebus that serves as an aid for Liza.

----

* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: He didn't think Tigre would complete his task as a mediator, or that Liza was more cunning than he thought.
* NumberTwo: To Naum in Lebus.
* OutGambitted: He does his best to make sure that Tigre doesn't get over-rewarded for his previous accomplishments. He succeeds at first, but ends up getting played by Liza which resulted in Tigre getting a high reward anyway.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Very sound in judgment and always willing to listen to reason from Liza and eventually, Tigre.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: He underestimated Tigre's task as a mediator or Liza's sly nature.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Liza to the point that he tells her straight out that he will always be there or her. He also does this with Tigre after initially expressing his misgivings, even willing to help Urs if he decides to live in Lebus despite the feeling of resentment that the people of Lebus have towards him.

!!Valentina Glinka Estes
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/HitomiHarada (Japanese), Creator/MonicaRial (English)
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/06_valentinaglinkaestes_6802.jpg]]

The wielder of the Dragonic scythe of shadow, Ezendeis, and the lord of the Osterode territory in the Zhcted Kingdom.

The most mysterious of the Vanadis, Tina is the type that shows a sweet, gentle, smile on the outside, but is actually cunning and manipulative on the inside. In addition, Tina has within her the royal blood of the Zhcted nobility, and will go to any length to make her wish to become the queen of Zhcted a reality. Her ambition prompts her to initiate, and put down, a civil war in the Zhcted Kingdom in an attempt to raise her reputation, and status, for when the time comes to take the throne for herself.
----
* AffablyEvil: Unlike most of the [[BigBad Big Bads]], Tina is a NobleDemon who just wants to become the queen of Zhcted. Her reasons for conquering the kingdom are out of necessity as she has the royal blood of the Zhcted nobility. She has several opportunities to give Tigre and the others a fighting chance.
* AffectionateNickname: Volume 14 reveals that her nickname is Tina.
%%* AlasPoorVillain: Despite all the atrocities she committed, it's hard not to sympathize with her [[spoiler:after her death]].
* AllAccordingToPlan: Everything that she does is planned for in advance. The only time that something doesn't go to his plan is when [[spoiler:Tigre and his allies for the Black Dragon Army and launch a FinalBattle for almost killing Sofy as well as her involvement with Ganelon]], and this one instance leads to [[spoiler:her defeat]].
* AmbitionIsEvil: Her ambitions are for her evil deeds to become Queen of Zhcted.
* AscendedExtra: She gains a lot more prominence starting with the third story arc.
* TheBadGuyWins: Or in her case, "The Bad Girl Wins." The third arcs are dedicated to showing how she overthrew the monarchy and organized a civil war so that she can become queen herself. It's not until volume 18 that she [[spoiler:finally loses]].
* BaitTheDog: In volume 17, she whispers to Sofy [[spoiler:about not using Zaht and Sofy rushes back to the Leitmeritz army's camp]]. Unfortunately, it all turns out that [[spoiler:she used Sofy as bait so she can strike her with Ezendeis]].
* BeneathTheMask: Tina shows a gentle smile, but deep down, she is cunning and manipulative, and willing to do anything to become queen of Zhcted.
* BigBad: She finally assumes this position in Volume 15, where she begins her plans to conquer Zhcted [[spoiler:after Viktor's death]]. Following [[spoiler:Ganelon's demise]], she becomes the very last villain in the series.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: The soft spoken, polite and noble war maiden was simply a role for Tina to hide behind - the truth is that she is a ManipulativeBitch.
* TheChessmaster: How she plans to become queen of Zhcted. She shelters Ganelon and Greast, uses Eugene and Ilda to fight against each other, dissolves House Kazakov, [[spoiler:helps regain Ruslan's sanity and stage a civil war after Viktor's death]], [[spoiler:injures Sofya Obertas]], and intends to tear the foundations of Zhcted apart until she can take over completely as Queen of Zhcted.
* [[ConMan Con Woman]]: Tina is one of these. She cons nearly everyone (the war maidens, King Viktor, Eugene, Ilda, Kazakov, Ruslan) with the intention of becoming Zhcted’s queen.
* ConsummateLiar: Tina is a pretty effective liar.
* CulturedBadass: One of the most powerful war maidens in Zhcted and an admirer of arts.
* DarkIsEvil: The purple eyes, black hair, her shadow powers and her SinisterScythe is enough to tip anyone off that Tina is not a good girl.
* EarlyBirdCameo: She appears in a non-speaking role in episode 4 at Elen's audience with Viktor.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: In Volume 11, she flat-out tells Ganelon that [[spoiler:she won’t be helping with his ultimate goals to overthrow Brune, but she will intend to focus on her plan to become Queen of Zhcted.]]
* EvilAllAlong: She's not as good as she appears to be.
* EvilCounterpart: To Sofy, who views her as a dangerous threat.
* TheExile: She was exiled after [[spoiler:Ruslan's revolt against Viktor failed in the past]].
* {{Expy}}: Funimation has [[WordOfSaintPaul compared her]] to Eris, the Greek goddess of chaos (fitting, considering that in the story, the war maidens are the descendants of goddesses).
* FakeDefector: Does this as part of a ploy in Volume 11, Chapter 4.
* FinalBoss: After [[spoiler:Ganelon is killed by Tigre]], Tina becomes the main threat to Zhcted and Brune and the FinalBattle is against her.
* FreudianExcuse: Her territory is in straits very similar to Alsace back at the beginning of the story. Unlike Tigrevurmund Vorn, however, she can't simply go round up an army and attack the threat directly for several reasons, the most prominent of which is that the King of Zhcted is silently in collusion with those that want to bring harm to her people and seize her territory, out of greed and jealousy, and she knows it. She's faking illness to avoid being sent on a UriahGambit because she's well aware of the king's near paranoid fear of the Vanadis, and their power, her territory becoming too prosperous for the king's taste, and her neighbors hasn't helped. Becoming the High Queen is basically her only option to protect her people.
* FreudianThreat: Does this to Tigre in Volume 11 with her scythe, after ''she'' walked in on ''him'' while he was bathing in a river. She was also naked at the time due to bathing herself, out of sight, somewhere upstream. (She let him go because he was honest about seeing her naked, and [[SomethingElseAlsoRises enjoying]] the [[BathingBeauty view.]])
* TheGadfly: She just loves to taunt and tease her fellow Vanadis, Tigre, and any movers and shakers she comes across just to get a reaction. Justified in that said reactions provide valuable intel.
* GambitPileup: Her rise to power is one predicated on massive plans, serving as TheChessmaster, being a ManipulativeBitch that relies on PlayingBothSides, operating with a number of {{Batman Gambit}}s and quick alternatives should a wrench be thrown in her plans. Specifically, it requires that she become a high ranking war maiden, shelter Ganelon and Greast upon their defeat, become a representative of King Viktor, instigating a fight between Viktor’s successors since the king is dying, [[spoiler:use her identity to weaken Regin's plans, allowing Greast to be captured and executed, meet up with Liza and Fine, help regain Ruslan's sanity, injure Sofya Obertas, and to initiate Zhcted's civil war]]. It worked in her favor, [[spoiler:at least until Tigre and his allies defeat her]].
* GoodColorsEvilColors: Tina wears a white, red and purple dress, and sports black hair and purple eyes, indicating her sinister nature.
* HappilyMarried: [[spoiler: In the Michelia timeline, she gives up her vanadis title to Militsa after being married to a local noble.]]
* IKnowYouKnowIKnow: She suspects that her deployment with Tigre and Elen in Volume 11 is more than King Viktor's usual UriahGambit.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: By [[spoiler:Miron]] after [[spoiler:rescuing Valery from being held hostage]].
* IShallTauntYou: She often uses intimidation, taunts and threats to weaken her opponents.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: All the nasty things she's done in the series have been done purely for the sake of keeping her people safe. She not only loves them dearly, but is loved by them in turn.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: After getting away with treachery and scheming to take over Brune and Zhcted, karma eventually comes back to bite her at the end of volume 18 [[spoiler:when she's overpowered and defeated by Tigre and his allies]].
* LightIsNotGood: She wears light-colored clothes but she is a cunning war maiden.
* ManipulativeBitch: Tina is willingly to do anything to become the Queen of Zhcted.
* MeaningfulName: Valentina is a German, Latvian, Italian and Spanish given name derived from the Latin word Valentines, which means “healthy”. Glinka is a Polish and Slavic name and Estes is derived from the Old English term which means “of the East.” Tina lives in Zhcted, which is in the eastern lands of Europe.
* TheMole: If only the war maidens and Viktor had realized that Tina was hiding amongst the people they were working for...
* MoleInCharge: After [[spoiler:she replaces Viktor and starts the civil war in Zhcted]].
* MonsterProtectionRacket: Her overarching plans in the series is this trope on a monarchy scale, and by the time she's found out, [[spoiler:it's almost too late to stop her]].
* MonumentOfHumiliationAndDefeat: She resides in [[spoiler:Viktor's palace after the king dies and she launches a civil war in Zhcted]].
* NobleDemon: She does have a code of honor, given that she is a war maiden and is well loved in her native Osterode.
* NomDeGuerre: She is known as the Illusory Princess of the Hollow Shadow.
* ObfuscatingDisability: She deliberately appears to be sick to fool her enemies and to avoid being sent on Viktor’s UriahGambit.
* ObviouslyEvil: Tina has dark purple hair and eyes, a sinister voice and a scythe.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: She has got plots to set in motion and a kingdom to manage.
* PurpleIsPowerful: Her eyes are colored purple, appropriately enough given that she is the war maiden of Osterode.
* RedBaron: Her nickname, the Illusory Princess of the Hollow Shadow, is a scary name.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: She redeems herself to rescue [[spoiler:Valery]] but at the cost of her own life.
* SinisterScythe: Tina uses her Dragon Tool, Ezendeis, as her weapon.
* SmartPeoplePlayChess: The anime ending theme has her sitting at a chess table playing with herself by warping the pieces around. Given her status as one of {{The Chessmaster}}s, this counts.
* SmugSuper: When she shows her true face.
* SomethingAboutARose: Tina has different colored roses: a white one on her head, a purple rose on her waist and several red roses on her uniform and shoes.
* ThinkingUpPortals: Ezendeis can cut open wormholes for her to warp around, though she'll tire herself out if used excessively.
* TokenEvilTeammate: Compared to her fellow Vanadis, her actions have been darker and more troublesome.
* TragicVillain: It's not hard to sympathize with her when she was driven to villainy after [[spoiler:Ruslan's failed revolt]] and how her homeland was in dire straits.
* TyrantTakesTheHelm: [[spoiler:She assumes leadership of Zhcted after Viktor's death]].
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom:
** In Volume 6, Tina sends Tigre out to Asvarre to end a civil war there along with Sofya and Olga, inadvertently causing Tigre to lose his bow and his memory after being attacked by Torbalan, and Liza to discover him.
** During Volume 11, [[spoiler:her FakeDefector plot during the Sachstein invasion causes Tigre to be branded as a traitor ''again'' and indirectly leads to the insurgency in Brune]].
* VillainsBlendInBetter: Most of the Vanadis are unable to sense that Tina is about to take over Zhcted due to her popularity in her homeland. Sofy, Elen and Tigre are suspicious as well due to her sinister nature.
* VillainTakesAnInterest: Tina wants Tigre to join her and rule Zhcted with her.
* WeComeInPeaceShootToKill: Discussed. She offers this to Elen and Tigre to help defeat their mutual enemy. She is turned down.
* XanatosGambit: She can take over Zhcted and rule as Queen to start a civil war regardless of whether a successor is chosen or which opponents are actually killed. A successor is eventually chosen in the form of [[spoiler:Viktor's own son Ruslan]] to pose as a PuppetKing.

!!Olga Tamm
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/07_olgatamm_4486.jpg]]

The wielder of the Dragonic axe of lunate, Muma, and the lord of the Brest territory in the Zhcted Kingdom.

Due to her young age, Olga would often run away from her territory, and travel the world, as she doesn't feel ready to rule her land. One such adventure brought her before Tigre who had been tasked by the king of Zhcted to carry out a secret mission related to the Asvarre civil war. Olga herself hopes that Asvarre might have the answer she's looking for, and together, the two end up traveling to Asvarre; becoming involved in its war soon after.

----

* AgeInappropriateDress: Yes she is 14 but she looks younger. Thus she shouldn't really be wearing that dress into a battle (or anywhere).
* BadassAdorable: She is 14 years old but that doesn't stop her from mowing down armies like other Vanadis.
* BoyishShortHair: She has short hair and anyone can mistake her for a boy when they first see Olga.
* ChildhoodMarriagePromise: Combined with JailbaitWait. Tells Tigre that, although she'd like to marry him, she recognizes their obligations would keep them apart. She asks if he would accept fathering her children instead, in the tradition of her people. He gets her to agree to wait four years.
* CuteBruiser: Olga might be tiny, but she is strong and a hard worker.
* DemotedToExtra: Given the anime is based on the first five volumes, she only appears in the opening, ending and as a silhouette in episode 6.
* InTheHood: This is how she makes her entrance in Volume 6 when Tigre encounters her.
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: Olga sees nothing wrong with stripping and bathing right in front of Tigre who could not leave the room because they were at sea to Asvarre. She also had no problems sharing Tigre's bed on the voyage, even when a certain part of Tigre's anatomy had the usual morning response.
* MorphWeapon: Muma can change its size and shape for earth-splitting force.
* OlderThanTheyLook: 14 years of age is quite high for a TokenMiniMoe.
* ReluctantFanserviceGirl: She does have instinctive misgivings about doing the same when Torbalan demands it, however, although she consciously does not understand why.
* StockingFiller: Wears fishnet stockings on her standard uniform.
* {{Stripperific}}: Looks at her picture and try to deny that her clothes aren't this.
* TokenMiniMoe: Despite being 14 years old, Olga has the appearance of a child.
* WalkingTheEarth: Before she met Tigre, Olga was traveling the earth due to not feeling ready to rule her land.

The current ruler of Zhcted.

Despite being king, Viktor allows the Vanadis to do whatever they desire so long as they keep Zhcted's well-being first and foremost, and to keep the Vanadis users happy due to the fear that the power of their Dragonic Tools could be used against him if one is treated unfairly. However, how much a Vanadis can get away with comes to question when he learns that Elen has invaded Brune to protect the territory of Alsace from its own people, and is only convinced otherwise when Elen offers him new land, and better relations with Brune, should Tigre's revolution succeed.

Later on, he decides that the time has come to finally pick out who will be the successor to the throne of Zhcted.

----

* BigGood: Alongside Faron and later, Regin.
* CharacterDeath: Many believed that Viktor would die due to him appointing Eugene as his successor after he fell ill. [[spoiler:They were right]].
* TheEmperor: He is the King of Zhcted.
* FatalFlaw: [[spoiler:His paranoia and attempts to keep the Vanadis in check ends up dooming the kingdom]].
* GrumpyOldMan: Acts like this towards Elen regarding her actions in Brune.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Though he can be a jerk to his subjects at times, he's nonetheless a benevolent leader.
* ProperlyParanoid: He's very concerned that the Vanadis would rise to power. [[spoiler:His guess was correct]].
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He's reasonable enough to listen to the Vanadis as well as Tigre, allowing the Vanadis to do whatever they want as long as they keep the kingdom's well-being first and foremost.
* SelfFulfillingProphecy: For generations, the kings of Zhcted treated the Vanadis with little more than fear and suspicion, and would constantly toil to keep their strength in check because they believed that the Vanadis would one day betray them, aside from the original founder who made them his brides, and treated them tenderly. [[spoiler:Guess what happens under Viktor's watch, precisely because he was being paranoid and tried a bit too hard to reign the Vanadis in?]]
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: His attempts to reign the Vanadis in and selection of Russian as his successor all but ensured that [[spoiler:Tina would eventually take his place as Queen]].
* UriahGambit: Does this to the Vanadis, often, and they are all well aware of it. He also has a habit of sending their troops away purely to chip away at their strength.
* WhatTheHellHero: Calls out Tigre's lack of ambition and that his humility may backfire on him one day considering Tigre's a noble and a war hero.

!!Eugene Shevarin

The Earl of Zhcted's Pardu territory, and Elen and Lim's former mentor.

The Duke of Zhcted's Bydgauche territory, and King Viktor's nephew.

Ilda is, at first, bewildered as to why Viktor chose Eugene to be the new King over him despite being one spot higher in line to the throne, but he comes to accept it and decides to work with Eugene for the sake of Zhcted. That all goes south however when its set-up by Valentina to make it look like Eugene had tried to kill Ilda through poisoned vodka. The result being a declaration of war against Eugene.

----

* BlueBlood: Being the king's nephew makes Ilda as this.
* GracefulLoser: He accepts his defeat after he was stopped by Urs (amnesiac Tigre).
* {{Revenge}}: Aims to kill Eugene; believing that he had attempted to kill Ilda through poisoned vodka which ended up killing one of his advisors that drank the vodka before him.

Orgelt is someone who came to disliking the Vanadis, Liza; loathing her odd-colored eyes, as well as her recent actions against Ilda, who Orgelt admires. He attacks the Lebus territory after getting word that Liza had been keeping Tigre as her "captive."

----
* CharacterDeath: To repay Liza for safe housing Tigre during his amnesiac state, Elen decapitates Kazakov to take the blame, and means of revenge by the people of Polus, put solely on her instead of Liza.
* TheDreaded: Nicknamed, and feared, as "Bloody Kazakov" due to his cold, and bloody, actions on the battlefield.
* FinalBoss: He shares this role with Baba Yaga at the end of the second arc.
* {{Jerkass}}: Most of his hate towards Liza stems from her heterochromatic-colored eyes; even thinking that its a curse.

The plan ''succeeded''.

[[OutsideContextProblem The ultimate antagonists of the series]] are seven ancient powerful demons with connections to the Vanadis as well as Tigre's bow. Each one has a unique power in addition to near total immunity to conventional weaponry, resistance against magical weapons, teleportation, the ability to take human form, and a complete disregard for the sanctity of life.

Their origin and ultimate objectives are yet unknown. What is known is that they have infiltrated positions of power in every country on the continent and are involved in (if not responsible for) all the wars and national tensions in the series. They are divided into two factions based on their intention towards Tigre and the black bow: half want him dead, the other half want him alive and captured.

A fortuneteller, and one of Duke Thenardier's most loyal subordinates.
