[[caption-width-right:1000:From left to right: George, Lynn, Sarah]]
* AdaptationalNiceGuy:
** Lynn is hit with this the hardest.
*** Lynn's BlitheSpirit, ThePollyanna, AllLovingHero and MagneticHero personality are all additions of the anime series. In the manga she was more or less a stock shojo protagonist who reacted to everything around her and rarely took initiative. In the anime she's more willful and her "stock shojo protagonist" traits are passed to Sarah.
*** The anime also introduced a tendency for Lynn to go out of her way to do things for Sarah and bond with her more.
*** In the manga, there were some scenes where Lynn compared Edward to [[CoolBigBro Arthur]], which makes him feel terrible. The anime cuts this out and gives her and Edward more SickeninglySweethearts moments.
** In the manga, Sarah was even meaner to Lynn and declared that she hated crybabies when Lynn cried into her arms after hearing about her mother's death. In the anime, this is changed to Sarah instantly comforting Lynn. She even stands up to Thomas and Mary's bullying and helps prove Lynn's innocence when she's accused of harming Edward.
** In the manga, George was barely around for his daughters. In the anime, he spends more time with them, such attending Sarah's award ceremony and taking them both on vacation.
* AmbiguouslyChristian: Not so "ambiguous" since they're seen attending church (after Misuzu's death) and celebrate Christmas. George and Misuzu also got married at a church, [[spoiler: as do Sarah and Arthur]].
* BickeringCouplePeacefulCouple: [[spoiler: Sarah and Arthur get along without a hitch, and even when Sarah loses her temper, Arthur remains patient with her. Contrast that to Lynn and Edward who communicate half the time by yelling at each other (to be fair, they're kids, and when they grow up they act more mature.)]]
* BigFancyHouse: Marble Mansion. [[spoiler: Which is sold-off later, and that becomes a plot point in ''Hello! Lady Lynn'' as Mary manipulates Lynn via promising to help her get it back but only if she relinquishes her bid to the ''Lady's Crest''.]]
* BlueBlood: They are descended from Duke Warbawn (the title "duke" implies minor nobility, and to ham it in, he owns a castle). George is explicitly stated to be a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viscount Viscount]], which is also a title used in certain European countries for a noble of varying status.
* BreakTheCutie:
** So many times to Lynn. She doesn't take Misuzu's death well, and is also heartbroken that Sarah initially wants nothing to do with her. She endures constant humiliations and abuses in her new life in Britain, and at one point contemplates going back to Japan, had her friends not stood by her. In the second series, she's more strong-willed and persistent, and despite having her moments of weakness, vows to stray strong in the face of aggression.
** Sarah was a near BrokenBird by the start of the story, being withheld by her illness and the resulting loneliness. Her face was stung with sadness after she rejected Lynn, implying that deep down she regretted her actions, and many times she's so overwhelmed by stress she passes out. She also cries many times when she realizes [[spoiler: her grandfather will send Lynn back to Japan, though thankfully this is averted]].
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: [[spoiler: Sarah knew Arthur since she was younger than Lynn, whereas Lynn and Edward started off as unrequited on Ed's part, but later developed into mutual love. While they hid their feelings from each other because of their noble images, as adults, Arthur confesses he's always liked Sarah and Edward confesses he's always liked Lynn. In the anime, this was changed to the boys confessing to the girls when they were both much younger.]]
* ColorCodedCharacters: Lynn is pink, Sarah is blue, George is green.
* DaddysGirl: Both Lynn and Sarah are this, as George is their only living parent. The three love cuddling together, and are very close.
* DoubleInLawMarriage: [[spoiler: Arthur and Sarah MarryForLove halfway through the manga, and Sarah is given the title of Mrs. Brighton. When Lynn and Edward are of age, they do this too.]]
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold:
** Lynn inherited her father's golden hair, and is a wonderful human being at her core who loves making friends and caring for traumatized animals.
** Sarah is a DefrostingIceQueen variant. All her life she struggled with a chronic illness that caused her to be aloof from most people (except Arthur), but thanks to Lynn she comes out of her shell and shows a protective side to her. She stands up to Madeleine (who favours Sarah) and stops her from maltreating Lynn, and angrily colds Thomas and Mary for making her cry.
** George is a good person at his center, even if he's not around for his daughters due to his workload. [[spoiler:He refuses to marry Madeleine and clear his debts with her money because it means Lynn will go back to Japan.]]
* HappilyMarried: [[spoiler:In the manga, Arthur proposes to Sarah, and they end up married. Around the same time, Lynn and Edward have a budding romance, and in the sequel manga it's revealed they too, are married.]]
* ImpoverishedPatrician: [[spoiler: Since George ultimately refused the ArrangedMarriage to Madeleine, which would've cleared his massive debts, Marble Mansion is sold and Sarah goes to live with Duke Warbawn while Lynn goes to live with Countess Montgomery. George is more desperate than ever to get it back and his father is very disappointed in him.]]
* MissingMom:
** Sarah's mother Frances is implied to have fallen victim to DeathByChildbirth, as she died soon after Sarah was born.
** And there's Misuzu with Lynn - though unlike Sarah, Lynn actually knew her mother.
** George doesn't have a mother either.
* MutualPining: [[spoiler: Sarah & Arthur, but both are too bashful to say it. Lynn also feels this way for Edward, but he doesn't know and thinks that she'll never want to be with a guy like him - and is plenty surprised when he finds out she does.]]
* ParentalNeglect: George to Lynn and Sarah. Lynn sorely misses him because he's always at work and rarely ever sees her, and one of the reasons Sarah is so bitter is because she feels like he doesn't love her enough.
* PinkGirlBlueBoy: Subverted, as Lynn is the pink girl to Sarah's blue girl. With her love for sports and horseriding, Lynn is more tomboyish than Sarah, who's hobbies are reading and painting.
* ProperLady: A vital part of the manga plot is to have Lynn become one of these. Sarah also wants to be one, specially since her mom Frances was a perfect example of the trope.
* RedOniBlueOni: Sarah is the blue to Lynn's red. She is much more ladylike and composed than her younger sister. This is mirrored in the Brightons, where Arthur is cool and collected, while Edward is more hot-blooded
* ShipperOnDeck: [[spoiler:Wholeheartedly ships Sarah/Arthur after she realizes that they both like each other.]]
* SiblingTriangle: [[spoiler: Sarah and Lynn have feelings for Arthur Brighton. Sarah and Arthur get together, while Lynn's feelings shift towards Arthur's younger brother Edward.]]
* SpoiledSweet: With the exception of Misuzu, all of them came from wealth and are respectful and friendly to their staff, with Lynn helping the Russell's gardener tend to the flowers and Sarah treating the sanitorium workers with gratitude. George also fell for Misuzu despite the fact that she was an ordinary Japanese civilian, choosing to love her in spite of their class differences.
* StrongFamilyResemblance:
** All the Russells have blue eyes and light, cymotrichous blonde hair (though Sarah's is straight, just like her mother's).
** George and Sarah have Duke Warbawn's IcyBlueEyes.
** Sarah is the spitting image of her deceased mother, down to the hair.
** Lynn has her father's hair colour shape. Oddly, she averts this trope with her mother, who she looks nothing like.
* TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth: George and his first wife Frances were HappilyMarried, but she died while giving birth to their first daughter Sarah. George then married Misuzu and had Lynn, but the two separated for unknown reasons. A DotingParent to her daughter, Misuzu raised Lynn alone for five years, before she lost her life in a car accident. Lynn absolutely ''breaks'' when she finds out that Misuzu died.
* VictoriousChildhoodFriend: [[spoiler: Both Lynn and Sarah had feelings for Arthur. However, Lynn saw that Arthur liked Sarah, and accepted it. She later fell for Edward, who unlike Arthur, actually reciprocated her feelings. Sarah was also left speechless when Arthur admitted that he loved her, and was stunned at hearing his marriage proposal.]]

* TheAce: [[spoiler: By the end of the series, she's won the Lady's Crest and also saved the Russells family home, as Reynolds promised to loan her the necessary money provided she win the race]].
* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: Lynn was more impulsive and bland in the manga, and had some unintentional {{Jerkass}} moments. The anime makes her a more curious, wide-eyed and sweet little girl who [[ThePollyanna never stops losing hope]] for her future.
* AdaptationalWimp:
** In the manga, Lynn ''slapped'' Mary for shit-talking her father. In the anime this never happens.
** Lynn was prone to attacking Thomas at least once a chapter for being a {{jerkass}}, but in the anime she's more passive in the face of his bullying.
* AllLovingHero: Lynn is an optimist and is willing to befriend ''anybody'', full stop. When she thinks about leaving England, she thinks of all the people she's met and all the happy memories she's made and balks at losing them. She still reached out to Sarah even though Sarah [[TheResenter resented]] her, cared for Andrews the horse even after he proved to be unable to run properly and [[spoiler: was even happy to see Mary when she joined her school, when for the past eight years Mary and her family did nothing but treat her like crap. Even Victor Reynolds, a cold-hearted businessman, is touched by Lynn's gentleness and realizes that she is an example he wants his terrible granddaughter Mary to follow.]]
* AnimalCompanion: Lynn has a cat, Queen, and also adopts Prince after Mary maltreats him. She also befriends King the squirrel and [[spoiler:Sophie leaves her with him when she departs from Isabelle's house]].
* AnimalLover: She loves cats and has her own kitten, but after spending time with Arthur and his horse Alexandra, she realizes she really likes horses too and gets her own in ''Hello! Lady Lynn''.
* AnimeHair: Lynn has twintails, and they're ''bigger than her head''.
* BlitheSpirit: Sarah is surprised by Lynn's optimism and admits she can't disagree with it. Lynn also carries this attitude towards her school and it's infectious to many of her classmates.
* ButNotTooBlack: She doesn't look a single bit Japanese at all. Not that this stops her grandfather from discriminating against her.
* CheerfulChild: Lynn is upbeat and optimistic, and manages to face some fairly traumatizing events (death of her mother, Madeleine's abuse) with her head high.
* CheeryPink: She always wears pink clothes and accessories, and is BlitheSpirit who's presence changes Sarah and charms the Marble Mansion servants.
* ChildOfTwoWorlds: She has a Japanese mother and an English father. She was raised in Japan for most of her life and was in for a culture shock once she came to Britain.[[spoiler: The sequel manga has her retain her Japanese heritage by having the her and Edward's kids visit Japan]]).
* ChildrenAreInnocent: She knows she's hated by most people around her, either for her heritage or because she represents something they dislike, but still works to get their approval and be their friend. Case in point: she thought that she could make Sarah like her if she gave her a present, and decided to pluck the flowers she saw in the neighbouring forest to impress her. Unfortunately, that same day a rainstorm occurs and poor Lynn is knocked unconscious. Luckily, Edward saves her, brings her back to the Marble Mansion, and Sarah is taken back by what Lynn did for her.
* CrushBlush: Lynn gets one at her school's horse-riding teacher, after he praises her horse-riding talents. EveryoneCanSeeIt, making her all the more bashful.
* TheCutie: [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lynn2.jpg Yep!]] She's adorable as she's kind and helpful.
* DidNotGetTheGuy: Not a sad example - Lynn [[PrecociousCrush fell in love]] with Arthur Brighton because he was a PrincelyYoungMan who comforted her when her mother died and her immediate family was...[[FishOutOfWater slow]] to accept her. [[spoiler: Arthur, while finding Lynn a cute kid, never loved her back, and instead confessed his love to Lynn's older sister Sarah. Sarah and Arthur eventually get married, and while Lynn always knew it was going to happen (Arthur doesn't do a good job of hiding his feelings, despite his aristocratic demeanor, and Sarah/Arthur are of similar ages while Arthur is five years her senior), she does cry a bit on their wedding day. However, Lynn finds herself enamoured with Arthur's younger brother Edward and falls for him when she's older. In the anime, this was changed to Lynn (as a child, not an teen like her manga counterpart) noticing that Sarah had already captured his heart and willingly switching to Edward.]]
* DubNameChange:
** In the French dub she was known as '''Gwendolyn'''.
** In the Italian dub she was known as '''Milly'''.
** In the Spanish dub she was known as '''Tina'''.
* DudeMagnet: In the manga, Lynn nabbed the hearts of Edward, Maa-kun, Hiroyuki and Jules. [[spoiler: Edward wins.]]
* ExactEavesdropping: [[spoiler: The crux of the drama in season one: she overhears George admitting he'll marry Madeleine, but only because the Duke promised to acknowledge Lynn if he did so. George breaks, and tells Sarah that like him, she must be strong for Lynn's sake. Lynn doesn't want this and decides she'd rather go back to Japan than have her family suffer for her sake - luckily she's prevented, and they decide to move on together without the Baroness.]]
* ExtremelyProtectiveChild: Towards Sarah. She considers her her best friend and when Sarah is taken to the sanitorium for the first time, Lynn is so distressed she runs after the ambulance crying.
* FairytaleWeddingDress: In the manga, Lynn gets several - her fancy dress to the ballgown party, her mother's legacy wedding dress, many gowns in her {{Imagine Spot}}s and her party dress in her dream. The anime OP also gives Lynn many in the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIeohbCNcBE opening]].
* FishOutOfWater: Half-Japanese Lynn must learn how to assimilate in the good ol' U of K. [[spoiler: By the end of the first season, she's embraced her British side and vows to stay in England, and by the end of the second one she's become a ProperLady, just like she's always dreamed.]]
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Apart from her AnimalCompanion horse, Lynn also befriends a cat, birds and rabbits.
* GenkiGirl: Lynn is always positive and cheery, and when she shows up the Marble Mansion she's overjoyed to meet her new sister. Sarah, on the [[AloofBigSister other]] [[{{Tsundere}} hand]]...
* GirlishPigtails: She has two large poofy ones (that bounce up and down whenever she's on her horse!), fitting her young and adorable demeanor.
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: Lynn is always seen carrying her stuffed bunny wherever she goes, which she brought from Japan. She treasures it dearly and when Mary tore it's ears, she stitched it back together.
* GracefulLoser: Lynn is this to Cathy. When both girls compete for the National Qualifier, they end up with the same amount of points, and a jury is set to decide who's the winner. They decide it is Cathy, while Lynn is her backup. Lynn isn't upset at this and congratulates Cathy on her win. [[spoiler: When the girls hold a second qualifier race, Lynn finishes first while she's on Andrew's back, and Cathy and her friends follow this trope towards Lynn]].
* {{Hallucinations}}: When Lynn is out cold from the winter blizzard, she imagines that she is fighting a witch. She realizes it was all a dream when Alexandra, Edward and Arthur wake her.
* HereditaryWeddingDress: In Chapter 17 of the manga, while Lynn is staying with her maternal grandparents, they give her Misuzu's FairytaleWeddingDress. Lynn tries it on, and it amazed at how pretty it is. Misuzu's mother explains that they never accepted their daughter's marriage to George, and they regret it to this very day, so the two got married in a small church where they were the only attendees. The dress is a TragicKeepsake since Misuzu is now deceased.
* KindHeartedCatLover: One of her many friends is a kitten with light beige fur and blue eyes, named Queen. She befriends it after seeing Mary's cat Prince antagonize it, and is shown to still have Queen post-TimeSkip.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: George refuses to fully explain Misuzu's death to Lynn at first, as he believes it'll hurt her way too much. As said above, this doesn't last too long. [[spoiler: And in a KickTheDog moment, the ones who tell Lynn that her dear mom is dead... are Madeleine and her kids. (More like they drop the bomb on her not knowing that she's in the dark about it, then the kids start mocking her until a rather tearful Sarah explains what happened in a much gentler manner.)]]
* InconsistentColoring: Lynn's eyes are green on the manga cover, but in the anime, they appear red, pink and brown at several different points.
* MagneticHero: Because of her sweet nature, Tom, Jill, Sarah, Sophie, Vivian, Paul and many others gravitate towards Lynn in spite of previous doubts they held about her.
* MeetCute: Sort of. Lynn was searching for flowers and got lost, then [[DynamicEntry she saw Edward fall off his horse and on a bush near her.]] With Arthur following soon after.
* NiceGirl: Lynn is a cute and adorable child who cares for everyone, even complete strangers, and her presence warms the heart of everyone who meets her.
* PassionateSportsGirl: Lynn decides to become a horseback rider and works hard for it. She also meets some of these in her way to sport stardom, mainly other riders and tennis players.
* PinkIsFeminine: Most of Lynn's clothes, be they overalls or ballgowns, are pink, as are her bows and shoes. Though, she also tends to favour red.
* PluckyGirl: In spite of her mother's death and her grandfather refusing to accept her for being half-Japanese, Lynn strives to be accepted in the Russell family no matter what. Initially, she was broken by [[spoiler:learning her father would formally marry her WickedStepmother and tried to escape back to Japan to prevent it from happening. When her father asks that she stay and breaks it off, Lynn works on being accepted through her own merits - and eventually does when she wins the Lady's Crest and represents Great Britain in the Olympics, even saving the Russell family house thanks to a bet she made with Victor Reynolds. Finally, her grandfather accepts her.]]
* ThePollyanna: Lynn tries to keep her head on her shoulders after the death of her mother, even if it's very hard, and will accept any sliver of friendship and kindness.
* ShipperOnDeck: She can see that Sarah likes Arthur, and wholeheartedly ships it, even having an ImagineSpot of them dancing while he wears a suit and she wears a ballgown. Sarah was once envious that Arthur liked Lynn more than her, but this was untrue.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: She has her father's blonde hair and her grandfather's blue eyes.
* TerribleArtist: Let's not be too mean since she's a five year old, but [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/k_14.png this]] definitely isn't winning any awards.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Even though her grandfather is a blatant racist, she wants to earn his approval and [[spoiler: eventually does by winning the final race]].

[[folder:Sarah Frances Russell]]
!!Sarah Frances Russell (セーラ・フランシス・ラッセル)

Lynn's older half-sister, she is ten years old at the start of the series. Unlike the rambunctious Lynn, Sarah is much more calmer and pensive. Unfortunately, her health is delicate and she often falls ill.

* AloofBigSister: She doesn't like Lynn at first and rejects all her attempts to get close to her. Though she eventually warms up to her and the two become close friends.
* AwwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: Sarah hated Lynn at first and destroyed the flowers she kindly picked for her. After Lynn ran away from home, Sarah realized that she cared about Lynn even if she didn't express it and hide it from Arthur, and eventually accepted her friendship.
* BabiesEverAfter: [[spoiler: Averted. Sarah and Arthur are revealed to be HappilyMarried in the ''Lady!!'' sequel manga, but Sarah's condition makes it so that she can't have kids. Arthur doesn't care, and stays with her anyway. Lynn and Edward have kids, whereas Charles is approaching marriagable age, but there's no word if he'll have kids or not]].
* ClingyJealousGirl: Sarah CannotSpitItOut at Arthur. At one point she expresses jealousy that Arthur may like Lynn, but he's actually been in love with her for years.
* CoolBigSis: When Lynn sees Sarah for the first time, she's awestruck by how pretty she is, even if Sarah seems aloof and uninterested in her. Lynn is always inquisitive and curious about Sarah's life and often asks George and the staff of the Marble Mansion about her.
* CrushBlush: [[spoiler:In the manga, this is how she reacts to Arthur's wedding proposal. [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sarah2.png See here]].]]
* DefrostingIceQueen: Sarah used to hate Lynn and viewed her as a thorn in her side (partially because Lynn kept trying to win over her friendship), before realizing that Lynn had nothing but goodness in her heart. Thus, she became a close friend of Sarah's, second to Arthur.
* DelicateAndSickly: Her constitution isn't the best, and at one point she fainted to the point of needing to be sent to a sanatorium. [[spoiler: This also plays into one of the reasons Duke Warbawn wants George to marry Madeleine - with her, he can at least ensure a proper heir for the Russells.]]
* DubNameChange: She was called '''Annie''' in the French dub.
* EveryoneHasStandards: She's nothing less of cold to Lynn, but she can't stand Madeleine's mistreatment of Lynn and it pushes her to be a better sister to her.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: Wears her hair in pigtails later in the series, as if to match with Lynn.
* {{Expy}}: Of [[Literature/{{Heidi}} Klara Sesemann]].
** They are both children from [[LonelyRichKid elite, upper-class]] families that are disabled (Klara uses a wheelchair, while Sarah is implied to have hypothyroidism), and their lives significantly change with the presence of a [[GenkiGirl cheerful young girl]]. In spite of their statuses, they are SpoiledSweet. Even their names rhyme.
** Sarah's physical appearance is heavily reminiscient of Klara from the 1974 ''Anime/WorldMasterpieceTheater'' anime ''Anime/HeidiGirlOfTheAlps'', with her long blonde hair and blue eyes, affinity for always wearing light blue clothes and large blue bow on top of her head.
** Sarah, however, is more and pessimistic than Klara and has a tendency to AccentuateTheNegative because her childhood was marked by George's ParentalNeglect. This makes her similar to [[Literature/TheSecretGarden Colin Craven]]. However, unlike Colin and Klara, [[spoiler: Sarah never throws off her disability.]]
* {{Fainting}}: As part of her illness, Sarah faints often, either from stress or too much physical activity. After attending the Brighton's party, Sarah suddenly collapses in the car, leading a freaked out Lynn to alert the driver and beg him to do something.
* GetOut: During her first day at Marble Mansion, Lynn wanders into Sarah's room and gets this as a response. This also colours her first impression of Lynn as an attention-stealing little brat.
* GreenEyedMonster:
** Sarah rejects Lynn at first because she fears that, since Lynn is much more of a GenkiGirl while she's a sickly ShrinkingViolet, she'll win over everyone's affections and Sarah herself will be all alone. She gets over it rather soon, however.
** In another episode, it's revealed that Sarah is jealous of Lynn because she never got to know her own mother before she died. To remedy this, Lynn finds a score that used to belong to her mother, and presents it to her.
* HiddenDepths: Sarah is a skilled flutist. She sometimes plays it for her grandfather.
* IcyBlueEyes: Sarah has ice-coloured eyes and is closed off and aloof to everyone. She doesn't want Lynn's friendship, and her only friend for most of her life was Arthur.
* InsecureLoveInterest: Sarah has a cynical view of the world in general and feared that Arthur didn't love her anymore because he would hang out with Lynn. [[spoiler: Arthur was actually in love with her all along, but unable to say it because of his own anxiety]].
* JerkassHasAPoint: In the first episode, Sarah lambasts her father for never being around and rightfully calls him out for his ParentalNeglect towards her. Unfortunately, she takes it out on Lynn, who's just as a victim of neglect as her.
* LonelyRichKid: Sarah is the oldest child of the Russells, but is confined to her bed because of her sickness, and Arthur was her OnlyFriend for most of her childhood as she was never able to go to school and leave the house like Lynn was.
* PetTheDog: When Madeleine, Mary and Thomas cruelly break the news of Misuzu's death to Lynn, Sarah sits down with Lynn and gently explains what happened, in a manner respectful to Misuzu's memory.
* TheResenter: At first, she despised Lynn, thinking the little girl was there to steal her father's attention from her, even going so far as to reject any presents Lynn gave her. Thankfully, she grows out of this attitude once she gets to know Lynn better.
* SignificantWardrobeShift: During TheBigRace, she wears pink instead of her usual blue - a.k.a, Lynn's colour.
* TragicKeepsake: Her mother died when she was young, and all Sarah has of her is her flute.
* TrueBlueFemininity: In contrast to Lynn, who always wears pink, Sarah wears a lot of blue, be it her bow, blouse or accessories.
* {{Tsundere}}: Sarah starts as a non-romantic Type A to Lynn, acting cold to her at first out of fright and envy. This just ends up making both sisters miserable - Lynn feels left out by everyone at her new home, and Sarah is reminded that she's not an only child anymore.

* GoodParents: Ultimately. [[spoiler: He despises Madeleine, but when he is told that the only way his father, the Duke, will accept Lynn is if he accepts her marriage proposal, he relents. Lynn is horrified by this and decides to reside in Japan permanently with her grandparents, hoping that her father won't marry the baroness and make Sarah sad. Edward finds out, and begs Lynn to stay, and even Arthur and Sarah rush to the airport to stop her. Once George hears of this, he breaks down and decides not to marry her, because he loves Lynn and can't bear the thought of living without her.]]
* MalignedMixedMarriage: [[spoiler: The Duke did NOT want George to marry Misuzu because she was a Japanese woman and he was white. Hence why he refuses to meet Lynn.]]
* MyGreatestFailure: He considers not being there for Lynn after her mother's death to be his biggest regrets.
* ParentsAsPeople: For a good chunk of the series, George leaves Lynn and Sarah in the care of their many maidservants and vulnerable to Madeleine's abuse, because he's worried about losing his wealth and assets. It's not like he wanted to, but he worries that their welfare will be impacted if he doesn't. He considers his neglect to them one of his greatest failures, and the second season has him realize what he's done and try to make up for it by being involved in both their lives.
* RichInDollarsPoorInSense: So much that his father is disappointed in him and [[spoiler:proposes an ArrangedMarriage to Madeleine to save the family's reputation.]]
* SparedByTheAdaptation: [[spoiler:Dies in Chapter 47 of the manga, shortly after having a son with Madeleine.]]
* WorkOffTheDebt: The main reason he's barely active in his daughters' lives is because he has to manage his large amount of debt. As almost everyone he turns to refuses to help him, [[spoiler: his father pressures him further to marry Madeleine and have her pay it off]].
