[[folder:In General]]

* AdultsAreUseless: [[AvertedTrope Averted]], surprisingly. Maya and Yukino are perfectly competent in ''Innocent Sin'', and ''Eternal Punishment'' takes this even further by making the entire core cast a group of adults, aside from Tatsuya.
* AerithAndBob: The party members' first names range from Western names (Maya, Lisa, Ulala) to common Eastern names (Jun, Kei, Eriko, Yukino, Tatsuya) to quite rare Eastern names (Eikichi, Baofu, Katsuya).
* AscendedExtra: Zig-zagged. ''Innocent Sin'' extras Ulala, Katsuya, Baofu, Kei, and Eriko become your party members in ''Eternal Punishment'', while the other main characters from ''Innocent Sin'' -- Eikichi, Jun, Lisa, and Yukino -- [[DemotedToExtra are relegated to minor roles]].
* BadassCrew: By the end of the duology, Tatsuya and Maya have led two different teams who defeat the Crawling Chaos himself.
* ButNotTooForeign: Party members Lisa (ethnically Caucasian but was born and raised in Japan) and Eriko (revealed to be quarter presumably Caucasian American via WordOfGod). Also [[ImpliedTrope implied]] with Maya who has a Western first name, purple eyes and a connection to the Maya civilization in middle America as well as the Suou brothers (both have tanned skin in the remakes as well as auburn hair).
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: ''Innocent Sin's'' party consisted of your typical JRPG cast of teenagers barring Maya and Yukino, ''Eternal Punishment'' contrasts its predecessor and the ''Franchise/{{Persona}}'' franchise in general by having a cast of mostly adults.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: Not only do they defeat Nyarlathotep twice, the ''Eternal Punishment'' team can also fight Philemon.
* ExperiencedProtagonist: [[VideoGame/Persona1 Eriko, Kei, and Yukino]] know a thing or two about the demons in these games.
* ForgottenChildhoodFriend: [[spoiler:Besides Yukino, the main cast members of ''Innocent Sin'' knew each other as children, the younger four being playmates with Maya adopting an older sister role towards them. Lisa, Eikichi, and Jun consciously chose to forget one another when the Alaya Shrine burned down after they had locked Maya and Tatsuya inside, leading them to mistakenly believe that Tatsuya had set the building on fire, killing Maya. They meet again ten years later as teenagers, or, in Maya's case, as a 23-year-old.]]
* ForgottenFirstMeeting: [[spoiler:Putting ''Innocent Sin'' aside, Tatsuya and his friends take this up a notch in ''Eternal Punishment''--they're forced to sacrifice their memories of one another to prevent the world from ending, resulting in the creation of a new timeline where none of them have met, and have no recollection of each other.]]
* GenderEqualEnsemble: Never all at once, but over the course of ''Innocent Sin'' you have three male (Tatsuya, Eikichi and Jun) and three female party members (Maya, Lisa and Yukino). This trope isn't in effect for ''Eternal Punishment'', though, unless the player selects Eriko as the GuestStarPartyMember until [[spoiler:Tatsuya]] replaces her.
* GuestStarPartyMember: Yukino in ''Innocent Sin'', and either Eriko or Kei in ''Eternal Punishment''.
* ImCryingButIDontKnowWhy: When Maya first uses her Persona in ''Innocent Sin'', Eikichi, Lisa, and Tatsuya all start crying tears of joy, although they can't place exactly why.
* ImplausibleHairColor: [[AvertedTrope Averted]], for the most part. Continuing on from [[VideoGame/{{Persona1}} the first game]], everyone's hair and eye colors are plausible for the setting, or given reasonable explanations if they're not (e.g. Eikichi and Ulala dye their hair; Yukino got a perm after graduating from St. Hermelin; blonde-haired, blue-eyed Lisa is [[TokenMinority ethnically Caucasian]]). The only glaring oddities are Maya Amano's purple eyes as well as the Suou brothers' auburn hair which both are never addressed in the games or any of their related material.
* MutuallyExclusivePartyMembers: In ''Innocent Sin,'' Yukino will never be in the same party as Jun due to her giving up her Persona to him so he can fight alongside his old friends. In ''Eternal Punishment'', Tatsuya will never be in the party alongside Eriko or Kei, as he replaces each of them in the group in the climax of the story, and Eriko and Kei themselves also can never be in the party at the same time as the choice has to be made between the two of them. However, in the extra dungeon there, the player is free to choose any lineup they want out of the seven.
* PromotedToPlayable: Roughly half of the ''Eternal Punishment'' lineup appeared in ''Innocent Sin'' as minor characters before becoming party members in the sequel.
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: Boy howdy.
** ''Innocent Sin'' gives us a [[NinetiesAntiHero loner bad boy biker]], a [[TokenMinority white girl]] who [[ButNotTooForeign knows more Cantonese than English]], a FormerlyFat Music/XJapan reject, a vaguely-unhinged, effeminate [[CulturedBadass sophisticate]] who fights with [[ImprobableWeaponUser flowers]], and a perky IntrepidReporter with her {{Ladette}} [[CloudcuckoolandersMinder minder]]/photographer in tow.
** Meanwhile, from ''Eternal Punishment'' we get the same IntrepidReporter accompanied by her terminally single roommate, alongside a dorky detective in CoolShades, an extortionist with connections to the Taiwanese mob, the heir of a Fiction500 company, a model with surprisingly extensive knowledge of the occult, and the same bad boy loner as before, but now twice as angsty and dressed in red leather.
* TownGirls: Yukino and Ulala are butch, Maya and Eriko are femme and Lisa is neither.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood
** Main Protagonists
*** Tatsuya: Rare steak (bloody ones especially) and seaweed-salt flavored potato chips.
*** Maya: Canned crabs and ramen.
** ''Innocent Sin'':
*** Lisa: 100% beef hamburgers, orange mousse, and fermented soya beans.
*** Eikichi: Melons and salad (because he's a vegetarian)
*** Jun: Omelet (his mother made it for him) and chocolate.
*** Yukino: Yakisoba and yakitori
** ''Eternal Punishment'':
*** Ulala: Shrimp chili and booze (Daiginjo especially)
*** Katsuya: Sweets and Curry
*** Kei (Nate): Japanese local foods
*** Eriko (Ellen): Chocolate (Godiva especially)
%%* WorldOfActionGirls: [[{{GunsAkimbo}} Maya]], [[{{KungFuWizard}} Lisa]], [[{{BoxingBattler}} Ulala]], [[}} Yukino]] and [[{{RoyalRapier}} Eriko]] are just as great fighters as the male team members.

The [[HeroicMime silent protagonist]] of ''Innocent Sin'' and a major character and party member in ''Eternal Punishment''. His affinity is with the Sun Arcana, with [[PlayingWithFire Vulcanus]] as his starting Persona. Before ''VideoGame/Persona4Arena'' canonized the name Yu Narukami for the ''Persona 4'' protagonist, he and Maya were the only ''Franchise/{{Persona}}'' protagonists to have official names provided in-game.

A popular-yet-standoffish third-year at Seven Sisters High School in Sumaru, Tatsuya, with Lisa Silverman in tow, is thrown headlong into the mysterious interconnected happenings in the city after a bizarre encounter with Kasugayama “boss” Eikichi Mishina at a live house. After being granted Personas by Philemon, the three summon and are attacked by [[JackassGenie the Joker]], a wish-granting entity who seems to know them personally and promises to exact revenge on them for an unnamed “sin”. He and the others resolve to uncover the Joker’s identity, and are later joined by Maya Amano and Yukino Mayuzumi, a reporter duo from a local magazine who are also looking into the Joker phenomenon.

Despire his efforts throughout ''Innocent Sin'', at the beginning of ''Eternal Punishment'' rumors have begun to come true once again. Tatsuya begins investigating the rumors on his own; despite his best efforts, he repeatedly runs into Maya Amano, now the game's protagonist, who demands answers from him at every turn.
----
* NumberOneDime: Tatsuya’s most prized possession is the engraved Zippo lighter Jun gifted him in exchange for his watch, both items a memento of the other’s father. Like Jun’s watch, the lighter and the exchange itself are represented in his exclusive Personas.
-->''"What's most important can't be seen with one's eyes."''
* NinetiesAntiHero: Ultimately subverted. It's clear that he was meant to invoke this trope, particularly in ''Eternal Punishment'' -- he’s an angsty, hyper-masculine (by series standards, anyway) stoic with [[ChickMagnet women flinging themselves at him]], but he’s also a [[SociallyAwkwardHero painfully awkward]] bisexual loner who’s unambiguously heroic and loves his friends deeply. And, wouldn’t you know it, Creator/{{Atlus}} does their best [[TraumaCongaLine to ensure that his angsting is completely justified]].
* AdaptationDyeJob: His UpdatedReRelease artwork gives him a tan that's very much absent from the original art. [[StrongFamilyResemblance Katsuya gets the same treatment.]]
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: There’s nary a woman in this duology who ''doesn’t'' lust after him, from school girls to female police officers. And all this despite the fact that he shows not the least bit of interest in any of them (save for one, if the player so chooses).
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: In ''Eternal Punishment'', if Maya chooses not to pursue him, his burgeoning romantic feelings go unanswered.
* AmnesiacDissonance: From what little we hear of This Side's Tatsuya, he was apparently a tad more social person with close friends who hangs around clubs and arcades and is quite cocky. The playable Tatsuya doesn't act like that at all, so he greatly disturbs those he interacts with.
* AnimalMotifs: Lions. He’s a Leo, and his belt buckle has a leonine design. Besides that, his Ultimate Persona, Apollo, is sometimes associated with lions.
* AnimeHair: A rather odd subversion of the ShonenHair archetype: Despite being around collar-length, it appears to be sculpted into the shape of his motorcycle helmet. WordOfGod once joked that it actually is a helmet, and that he slips it off at night.
* ApocalypseMaiden: [[spoiler:Tatsuya is mocked by Nyarlathotep and his associates for being this. Because Tatsuya did not let go of his memories as a new reality was being created, his spirit persists in the Tatsuya of the new world. Being the only one who does not belong, he is dubbed "Paradox Boy" because he alone links this world with the Other Side that is supposed to be overwritten entirely. In fact, no matter how many people Nyarlathotep grants memories of the Other Side with (including Tatsuya Sudou to act as JOKER, Kandori, or even Lisa and Eikichi depending on player choices), they cannot act as an anchor to bring back the Other Side because they are from ''here'', just granted memories of the Other Side, while Tatsuya's spirit is from the Other Side. In the end, the only way to ensure the Other Side cannot return to overwrite the current reality is for Tatsuya to return there.]]
* AtomicSuperpower: His Ultimate Persona Apollo verges heavily into this. He learns the nuclear spell Freila and - depending on the game - either Freidyne or Heat Kaiser. In ''Eternal Punishment'', his [[SignatureMove Nova Kaiser]] also turns into a Nuclear attack.
* BadassBiker: Tatsuya's most treasured possession (second to his lighter, apparently) is his red sports motorcycle. He even wears a red cycling leathers in ''Eternal Punishment'', his shoes being the only relic from ''Innocent Sin''.
* BadassBoast: He has a tendency shout these out when a random encounter starts.
--> "Bad luck, running into me!"
* BagOfSpilling: Averted in ''Eternal Punishment'', thank God. Tatsuya joins up at level 55, with his Ultimate Persona Apollo in tow. In Japanese version he can even benefit from an OldSaveBonus to retain his level and Apollo's rank from ''Innoceint Sin''. [[spoiler:This is explained in-game as "This Side's" Tatsuya being taken over by the Tatsuya from the original universe. He loses them all over again in the epilogue when the "real" Tatsuya takes over]].
* BettyAndVeronica: In ''Innocent Sin'', he’s his own Archie to Lisa's Betty and Maya's Veronica, yes, but in ''Eternal Punishment'', he’s the gender-inverted Veronica to Maya’s Archie, with [[SiblingTriangle his older brother Katsuya]] as the Betty.
* BigManOnCampus: A somewhat lethargic one. Tatsuya may be the one character in ''Innocent Sin'' who is genuinely cool, unlike Eikichi and Lisa who get caught up in their own pretensions and end up making fools of themselves. Like Baofu, he enjoys discoursing on "manliness" and how to maintain one's composure in every situation, but he's intensely antisocial, and tires of being challenged by every wannabe gang leader from here to Kasugayama High. In short: he leads by example, but never directly.
* ButNowIMustGo: [[spoiler:Following Nyarlathotep's defeat in ''Eternal Punishment'', the mind of ''Innocent Sin'' Tatsuya leaves the ''Eternal Punishment'' timeline, leaving the native Tatsuya's body without any memory of the events of the game.]]
* CanonName: Unlike other protagonists, his name is a default starting name. Can't get more canon than that.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Inevitable when he starts talking in ''Eternal Punishment'' since he was a SilentProtagonist in ''Innocent Sin''.
* CharacterDevelopment:
** In ''Innocent Sin'', he starts out as an alienated young man with no sense of direction, but comes out of his shell and gains focus as he emotionally reconnects with his former ChildhoodFriends.
** His personality in ''Eternal Punishment'', however, is much more [[spoiler:severe, having become a hardened fighter and losing everyone he cared about. The ''Eternal Punishment'' in the title is carried by him alone.]]
* CharacterTics: Flicking the lighter Jun gave him as a child. He does it in the trailers, he does it in cutscenes, and, hell, it’s even his idle animation.
* ChickMagnet: Nearly every female character in both games has a thing for him, except for Ulala, Eriko, and Yukino.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: All three of his potential romantic partners in ''Innocent Sin'' qualify as this.
* ClosetKey: To Jun, if he is chosen as to be his love interest. Their connection is the most obvious indication that Tatsuya is in fact bisexual while Jun is gay aside from the former being seen in an optional side quest.
%%* ColourCodedTimeStop: When he performs Nova Kaiser[[note]]Nova Cyther prior to the PSP release[[/note]] with Apollo.
* CombatPragmatist: Lampshaded in his scenario in ''Eternal Punishment'', where he assaults two security guards while they were talking, while commenting in his head that he's no {{Sentai}} hero to give them the time to finish. He pulls several other stunts like this, like using a guard as a meat shield or destroying the villains' submarine to stop them from escaping.
* CoolSword: He uses a two-handed sword, not unlike Nanjo.
* CosmicPlaything: Literally, in his case. He and his friends are pawns in a cosmic chess game apparently picked at random, between unknowable forces outside of their comprehension.
* CovertPervert: In ''Innocent Sin'', while the party is walking through the solution to a rumor-based puzzle, Maya asks him what you use a mirror for. One of the answers he can give is "to look up skirts."
* CrutchCharacter: In ''Eternal Punishment''. Even more so than usual, due to the fact that your party can fuse Personas up to five levels above the level of the highest-leveled party member, and unless you've been grinding yourself silly, Tatsuya will at least be five to ten levels above your next-strongest member. This means that getting everybody's Ultimate Persona is only a level or two away with Tatsuya.
* DeclarationOfProtection:
** Towards Maya. [[spoiler:It's what causes the most trouble in both games.]]
** He's also like this to Shiori in his scenario in ''Eternal Punishment''. [[spoiler:So much so that Nyarlathotep mocks him for it.]]
* DestinationHostUnreachable: He’s a weird example of this trope. Of the main characters, Tatsuya is the one member of the original Masked Circle who’s [[spoiler:unable to let go of his memories from ''Innocent Sin'', which creates a time paradox that keeps him from disappearing completely, although everyone he knows no longer exists.]] It's this paradox (which Nyarlathotep probably anticipated) that puts the world in mortal peril for a second time.
* DeusAngstMachina: Someone must have stuck an ANGST +100 accessory on him [[spoiler:between games.]]
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: [[spoiler:At the ending of ''Innocent Sin'', the player has the option to punch Philemon for what he put the team through, and for his flippancy about it.]]
* DoubleConsciousness: In ''Eternal Punishment'', he struggles with [[spoiler:two sets of memories, one from the Other Side and the other from this world]]. Negated in the ending, when [[spoiler:he deliberately removes “This Side”’s Tatsuya’s memories of his friends]]. Maya ends up shouldering his burden, hopefully for good.
* DramaticEllipsis: The English localization of ''Eternal Punishment'' is chock full of these. Tatsuya's the greatest offender of all--almost every line of his dialogue has one.
* EvenTheGuysWantHim:
** Jun has been in love with him as long as Lisa has.
** Not only Jun, his in-game profile states that he has tons of admirers among the Seven Sisters student body, both male and female. He's the school hero whom everyone wants to emulate and be around, in case some of his coolness rubs off.
** This also serves as a BrickJoke--Apollo, his Ultimate Persona, had his fair share of male lovers.
* FailureKnight: To all of his friends. [[spoiler:While this certainly applies to him in the first game, this is even truer of him in the second. Unlike his friends, he's unable to uphold his promise to give up his memories of them to save the world, committing the first game's titular innocent sin and forcing him to bear the burden of the second game's titular eternal punishment--alone with his memories of the Other Side, and responsible for a loophole Nyarlathotep intends to exploit to bring about the apocalypse a second time, he's forced to fight the Crawling Chaos on his own. And even though he does end up reconnecting with Maya, defeating Nyarlathotep alongside her once and for all, he still returns to his empty own universe without her at the end of the game.]]
* FieryStoic: Most of the time. While his Unique Personas are all focused on [[PlayingWithFire fire magic]], he is depicted as an IneffectualLoner with a [[MisunderstoodLonerWithAHeartOfGold hidden heart of gold]]. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] in ''Innocent Sin'' where he is a HeroicMime, but he maintains the attitude in ''Eternal Punishment'' with some [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness notable exceptions]].
* ForWantOfANail: His connection with the other four members of the Masked Circle, Lisa, Jun, Maya, and Eikichi, [[spoiler:is the linchpin of Nyarlathotep's far-reaching plot.]]
* FreakOut: [[spoiler:The losses at the end of ''Innocent Sin'' are too much for him to bear]].
* GayOption: He's got one in the form of [[BadassBookworm Jun Kurosu]]. It doesn't make any great changes to the storyline, but gives them a group contact together.
* GrandTheftMe: ''Eternal Punishment'' reveals that [[spoiler:the Tatsuya from ''Innocent Sin'' is actually controlling the body of the Tatsuya of ''Eternal Punishment'', but retains the memories of both Tatsuyas.]]
* HeartbrokenBadass: In ''Eternal Punishment'', [[spoiler:it's revealed that not only does he care deeply for Maya and all his other friends, [[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice the former's horrifying death]] in ''Innocent Sin'' is part of what spurs him to possess his alternate self in the new timeline as a preventative measure to ensure nothing like that ever happens to her again and everyone stays save.]]
* HellBentForLeather: He wears a red leather biker suit in the sequel.
* HelloInsertNameHere: Although "Tatsuya Suou" is his canonical name, the player is given a choice of naming him.
* TheHero: Of both ''Innocent Sin'' and, indirectly, ''Eternal Punishment''.
* HeroesPreferSwords: Played straight in ''Innocent Sin'', since he's both the protagonist and the only character who can use swords (and his only weapons are swords). In ''Eternal Punishment'', Kei and Eriko can also wield swords, which ties into their leading roles in the first ''Persona''.
* HeroicMime: In ''Innocent Sin'', and even then only as far as written dialogue is concerned. He has just as many ''voiced'' lines as anyone else in battle.
* HiddenDepths: A [[TheStoic stoic]] badass whose best subjects are physical education...and English.
* HisStoryRepeatsItself: He has to prevent the impending apocalypse a second time [[spoiler:because he loved his friends too much to forget about them.]]
* IWorkAlone: In ''Eternal Punishment'', [[spoiler:the newly-reincarnated Tatsuya is wary of repeated the same mistakes as before. He disrupts the flow of events by refusing Maya's help and keeping a safe distance from his former friends]]. In his scenario in the ''Eternal Punishment'' PSP remake, he's the sole party member for two-thirds of it because of this cautiousness, balanced by the fact that he's much higher-leveled than most of the random encounters.
* ImpliedLoveInterest: Maya is this to him in ''Eternal Punishment''. However, [[spoiler:he ultimately becomes a CelibateHero, dedicated to his efforts of protecting the safety of his friends and rectifying his mistakes]].
* IneffectualLoner: Subverted in ''Innocent Sin'' where he ''is'' a loner, but isn't particularly averse to working alongside others as long as he doesn't think they're slowing down progress, but played straight and justified in ''Eternal Punishment''; he rebuffs Maya’s offers of help out of the fear that, should anyone from the original Masked Circle regain their memories of the Other Side, the new and old timelines would collapse into each other, and the world would end a second time.
* JapaneseDelinquents: Downplayed. He doesn't look or behave like your stereotypical ''yankii'' at all, but his peers still consider him a bad boy for being TheStoic, owning a motorcycle, and underperforming in school.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: His weapon is a katana.
* KidHeroAllGrownUp: Tatsuya is portrayed as this in ''Eternal Punishment'', where he's an adult who failed his ComingOfAgeStory and seeks to make amends.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: [[spoiler:His fate at the end of ''Eternal Punishment''. In his case, though, it's a blessing.]]
* LawOfChromaticSuperiority: Red cycling leathers, which he wears in the sequel.
* {{Leitmotif}}: Has one called "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcv14rOMIos Hero's Theme]]". It plays once in the entire game.
* LightEmUp: In ''Innocent Sin'', his SignatureMove ''Nova Kaiser'' is a Light+Almighty attack. Not any more in ''Eternal Punishment''.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: One to the entire original Masked Circle, as they are to him.
* LoveHurts: Tatsuya spent much of his life avoiding bonding with anyone, and when he finally did, [[spoiler:his friends were ripped away from him]]. This is inverted in ''Eternal Punishment'': [[spoiler:Maya has the option of insisting on following the "Other Side" Tatsuya back to his world. Tatsuya simply returns her kiss, then knocks her unconscious, telling her friends to look after her. Afterward, Maya is forced to look on at the Suou family from afar.]]
* MarkOfTheBeast: Before the start of ''Eternal Punishment'', Nyarlathotep brands him with a winding, tattoo-like mark along his arm as a reminder of what will happen if his friends regain their memories.
* MasterOfAll: In ''Innocent Sin'', since Tatsuya is the protagonist, the player can influence his stats as they see fit. When he loses the title in ''Eternal Punishment'', his growths lean towards this instead, allowing him to use just about any Persona well.
* MrExposition: In ''Eternal Punishment''.
* MustMakeAmends: His actions in ''Eternal Punishment'' are atonement for [[spoiler:choosing not to forget his friends in ''Innocent Sin''.]]
* MyGreatestSecondChance: [[spoiler:It's too late to save his world, but Tatsuya can still prevent "This Side" from falling to Nyarlathotep.]]
* MysteriousProtector: To Maya in the sequel. Hence the nickname “Déjà Vu Boy”; the strange person who turns up everywhere.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: [[spoiler:By refusing to give up his memories of his friends, the Tatsuya of ''Innocent Sin'' nearly allows the world to be destroyed a second time.]]
* NotSoStoic: He completely breaks down when [[spoiler:he is forced to give up his memories of his friends to save the world]].
* OldSaveBonus: If you have completed save data from ''Innocent Sin'', he'll start ''Eternal Punishment'' at the level he was there. Unfortunately, this is near impossible to do if you're in the West, as ''Innocent Sin'' and ''Eternal Punishment'' were only localized on the PSP and PSX respectively.
* OneHeadTaller: Between him and Jun, Tatsuya's the tall one. Actually, he's the [[TallDarkAndHandsome second-tallest]] of the ''Innocent Sin'' team, with Eikichi being the tallest by almost two inches. In ''Eternal Punishment'', he’s the tallest.
* OneManArmy: By ''Eternal Punishment'', he’s so powerful that he’s able to singlehandedly [[CurbStompBattle curb-stomp]] Tatsuzou's forces, among other accomplishments.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: In ''Tatsuya's Scenario'', everyone is creeped out by his behaviour, because it clashes heavily with "This Side's" Tatsuya. In fact, the part-timer at Zodiac outright asks him if he is the Joker.
* ParryingBullets: In several cutscenes in ''Eternal Punishment'', all he has to do to block gunfire is raise his sword.
* ThePowerOfTheSun: He's associated with the Sun Arcana, and his Ultimate Persona is the sun god, Apollo. Fittingly enough, his unique skill Nova Kaiser creates a miniature sun and deals Light damage.
* PlayingWithFire: His exclusive Personas specialize in fire spells.
* RippleEffectProofMemory: By the end of ''Innocent Sin'', he's [[spoiler:literally the only person on Earth who recalls what happened in the previous timeline.]]
* ScarsAreForever: He has a knife scar on his back from when [[spoiler:Tatsuya Sudou]] attacked him as a child. Tatsuya gets him back, though.
* SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong: His entire shtick in ''Eternal Punishment''.
* ShellShockedVeteran: No matter how you play him in ''Innocent Sin'', the trauma of betraying his friends and the destruction of the world understandably turns Tatsuya into a bitter shell of a man in ''Eternal Punishment''.
* SiblingTeam: In ''Eternal Punishment'', he fights alongside his older brother Katsuya.
* SignatureMove: ''Nova Kaiser''. ''Eternal Punishment'' translated it as "Nova Cyther" while the fan translation called it "Nova Sizer".
* {{Sleepyhead}}: The guidebook makes mention of his "special ability" to fall asleep absolutely anywhere.
* SpotlightStealingSquad: In ''Eternal Punishment'', he gradually starts taking the spotlight from Maya, and by the end, the game is really more so about him than it is the rest of the cast.
* TheStoic: He's not cold-hearted, just shy and requires ''tons'' of personal space. He was a lot more outgoing and talkative as a kid.
* SuddenlyVoiced: In ''Eternal Punishment'', courtesy of Maya taking up his position as the obligatory HeroicMime.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: Oh yes. He’s nearly six feet tall, olive-complected, and canon wastes no opportunity to mention his good looks. In his cameo appearance on “Who’s Who” in ''VideoGame/Persona3'', Trish straight-up calls him “smoking hot”.
* ThirdOptionLoveInterest: Though it is PlayedForLaughs.
-->'''Tatsuya:''' Eikichi, I choose ''' you!!'''
* ThisIsSomethingHesGotToDoHimself:
** Not to mention in ''Innocent Sin'', [[spoiler:this is necessary in order to allow the other party members to gain their Ultimate Personas]].
** In ''Eternal Punishment'', he repeatedly tries and fails to get Maya to drop the JOKER story.
* TroubledButCute: His peers think the world of him, largely because of his good looks, standoffish personality, and motorcycle. The truth is, he’s a shy kid who doesn’t really know how to navigate interpersonal relationships, even finding it difficult to have an open discussion with his own brother.
* UniversalDriversLicense: Submarines? Mini-mecha? ''[[ImprobablePilotingSkills Zeppelins]]?'' Not a problem. And completely justified via the power of rumors. This is actually lampshaded by Katsuya in ''Eternal Punishment'', who protests that Tatsuya [[AreYouSureYouCanDriveThisThing isn't licensed to drive a car]], much less a robot.
* VictoriousChildhoodFriend: Has his choice between Lisa, Maya, and Jun.
* WesternZodiac: Leo. He even has a lion engraved into his belt buckle in ''Innocent Sin''.
* WhenHeSmiles: In ''Innocent Sin'', there's a scene of this in the bomb shelter. Maya shows Tatsuya her Mr. Bunbun charm, and he cracks a smile at it. She proceeds to comment that it's the first time she's ever seen him smile and that he's pretty cute when he does. Leads right to a LuminescentBlush, which in turn triggers Maya's teasing contact command with him, where she ''tries'' to make him blush.
* YouRemindMeOfX: Yukino and Elly note that he greatly resembles the protagonist of the first game.
* ZenSurvivor: He starts out like this in ''Eternal Punishment''. Expect plenty of [[CrypticConversation cryptic clues]] and "IWorkAlone."

A major character and party member in ''Innocent Sin'' and the [[HeroicMime silent protagonist]] of ''Eternal Punishment''. Her affinity is with the Moon Arcana, with [[AnIcePerson Maia]] as her starting Persona. For a long time, she and Tatsuya were the only ''Persona'' series protagonists to have canonical names (provided in the games themselves, not spinoff material), until the ''VideoGame/Persona4Arena'' games made Yu Narukami the official name of ''Persona 4'''s protagonist. She is also the only official main female protagonist in the ''Persona'' series.[[note]] Not counting Aigis (she's only the protagonist in ''The Answer'', ''Persona 3''[='=]s epilogue story), ''VideoGame/ShinMegamiTenseiIf'' and the Female Protagonist route in ''[[UpdatedRerelease Persona 3 Portable]]'' (the latter considered non-canon). 200Maya Amano is a journalist for Kismet Publishing, writing for the teen magazine ''Coolest''. Upon hearing rumors regarding a wish granting genie called Joker, Maya decides to investigate. The trail leads both Maya and her colleague Yukino to Seven Sisters High, during which she meets Tatsuya Suou and the others, and the five agree to work together to investigate Joker. She oftentimes finds herself taking a leadership role within the group during ''Innocent Sin'', despite not being the protagonist.

Though she has forgotten the events of the previous game at the start of ''Eternal Punishment'', a chance meeting with Tatsuya Suou on the way to work stirs up feelings of deja vu in Maya. The feelings of familiarity intensify after she witnesses the serial killer calling himself JOKER unleash demons inside Seven Sisters High. Tatsuya appears shortly there after and saves her life, then hands her a Sevens School Emblem and asks her to spread the rumor that it keeps the Joker away. He then warns her to forget they'd ever met and halt her investigation, and disappears into the city. Despite the danger, Maya chooses to press on, burning the emblem and going against his warning. Along with Ulala Serizawa, Katsuya Suou, and Baofu, she delves deeper into a convoluted series of events that she eventually realizes are those that parallel what she has experienced before in an alternate reality, and all just to sate her nagging curiosity over the "Déjà Vu Boy".
----

* AcheyScars: The scar on her abdomen [[AllergicToEvil aches]] whenever Joker is near.
* AnIcePerson: Her initial Persona Maia in ''Innocent Sin'' and her Ultimate Artemis in both games.
* ApologeticAttacker: Occasionally gives a mournful apology to the demons she just killed.
* BadassAdorable: Mean gun skills, powerful persona user, and still coos over how her guns are pink and plays with her bunny.
* BarrierMaiden: The Oracle of Maia prophecy holds that a "Mayan maiden" will be [[spoiler:ritually sacrificed to bring about the end of the world]]. This indeed happens when Maya is [[spoiler:impaled with [[TheLanceOfLonginus the Spear of Longinus]]]].
* BettyAndVeronica: In ''Eternal Punishment'' she is her own gender-inverted Archie with the [[SiblingTriangle Suou brothers]] as her love suitors, with Katsuya as the Betty and Tatsuya as the Veronica.
* BloodFromTheMouth: Bleeds from the mouth after [[spoiler:being stabbed with the Spear of Destiny.]]
* BoyishShortHair: She is seen with short hair in flashbacks from when she was younger.
* CaptainCrash: WordOfGod says that Ulala [[DrivesLikeCrazy never rides in the car when Maya drives]]. It's not helped in game by the fact that she keeps trying to drive vehicles she's not qualified to drive, like a blimp or a watercraft.
* {{Catchphrase}}: Ciao!♥ or "It's whoopass time!"
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: Maya is the odd duck out among the ''Persona'' protagonists. Everyone else is a male high school student who either specializes in melee weapons or is TheMusketeer and starts out with no defined name or personality. Maya is a woman in her early 20s with a 9-5 job, wields firearms as her weapon, and has a clearly defined name and personality in ''Innocent Sin'' that carries over to ''Eternal Punishment''.
* CoolBigSis: Unbeknownst to any of them, [[spoiler:Tatsuya, Lisa, and Eikichi previously knew Maya from childhood. Even as kids, she assumed this role over the group]].
* CooldownHug: After hearing Tatsuya's story in ''Eternal Punishment'' she has the option to hug him to help him calm down and make him feel more welcome.
* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest: Maya's father, Masataka Amano, was a war correspondent who was killed in action. We never see her mother.
* DiedInYourArmsTonight: [[spoiler:Dies in Tatsuya's arms in ''Innocent Sin'' after Maya Okamura stabs her with the Spear of Longinus.]]
* DrivesLikeCrazy: This woman is a threat to public safety, whether on land, sea or air.
* DudeMagnet: She's popular with the fellas.
* EvenTheLovingHeroHasHatedOnes: [[spoiler:Despite being ThePollyanna, even she can't give [[BigBad Nyarlathotep]] the benefit of the doubt; by her own admission, she had never hated anyone as hard in her life as him.]]
* FeminineWomenCanCook: Averted. Hates cooking almost as much she does cleaning.
* ForHappiness: Her ultimate goal is to help everyone achieve their dreams.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: After hearing Tatsuya's story in ''Eternal Punishment'' she has the option to slap him out of his IWorkAlone attitude, twice.
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: Mr. Bunbun, her precious keepsake.
* GratuitousEnglish: "LET'S POSITIVE THINKING!"
* GunsAkimbo: Totes a matching pair of [[PinkMeansFeminine pink handguns]] with a different justification in both ''Innocent Sin'' and ''Eternal Punishment''.
* HairstyleInertia: [[spoiler:A prominent aversion, whereas the rest of the kids played it fairly straight. Maya had shorter, coarser hair as a young teen during the summer she played with the rest of the party. This is important, as the rest of the team initially does not remember Maya, and when they do during the Mt. Iwato sequence, they erroneously assume that she died in the fire that nearly burned down Alaya Shrine.]]
* TheHeart: What the heck, she's already got two of them on her jacket.
* HeroicMime: Downgraded to this trope in ''Eternal Punishment''.
* IHaveBoobsYouMustObey: One of her Contact options.
* ImpliedLoveInterest: In ''Eternal Punishment'' she's this to Tatsuya and vice versa.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:At the end of ''Innocent Sin'', she ends up on the business end of the Spear of Longinus. ''Ouch.'']]
%%* IncorruptiblePurePureness
* InSeriesNickname: Mackey (Fujii's pet name), Ma-ya (Ulala), [[spoiler:Big Sis (by the other members of the Masked Circle).]]
* IntrepidReporter: In her [[EstablishingCharacterMoment introductory scene]], Maya literally introduces herself as this.
* JerkAssBall: She suddenly becomes very mean and cruel to the party during the Mt Iwato dungeon, when in the rest of the game she's incredibly kind and supportive towards everyone, [[spoiler:Subverted when it’s revealed that it's just an imposter and the real Maya stays just as kind as ever.]]
* {{Leitmotif}}:
** Two (eponymous) theme songs, the remix of which was included in ''Persona 3''. It gets [[DarkReprise Darkly Reprised]] in ''Innocent Sin's'' finale.
** The DarkReprise also shares similarities to a song earlier in the game, the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QO7qIxtWR6g& Bomb]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6NdU2Xjqic& Shelter's music]]. (Possible spoilers in the related videos!)
* LightEmUp: Maia and Maia Prime/Custom have "Hama". In ''Innocent Sin'', Artemis's SignatureMove ''Crescent Mirror'' deals Light damage. This is averted in the sequel where it deals Almighty instead.
* TheLostLenore: Especially if you romanced her in ''Innocent Sin'', and it played a huge role in ''Eternal Punishment''
* LoveHurts: Assuming the player takes the option of making Tatsuya her love interest, this trope qualifies. [[spoiler:After dying in front of Tatsuya in ''Innocent Sin'', he spends ''Eternal Punishment'' pushing her away to protect her only for her to never be able to contact him by the end of the game. She has the option of pleading and begging to take her with him back to the "Other Side," but Tatsuya will refuse, kissing her and then incapacitating her to keep her from joining him as he returns to his timeline. Understanding "Other Side" Tatsuya's plight, [[HerHeartWillGoOn she will then leave Tatsuya from "This Side" alone, moving on with her life]]]].
* MarriedToTheJob: It is implied that Masataka's absence has discouraged Maya from juggling work and relationships.
* MeaningfulName: Maya means "illusion" in Hinduism and Sikhism, and her primary tarot association is The Moon, which also represents illusion. She has been shown to be hurting more [[StepfordSmiler than she lets on]]. This is brought up in Tatsuya's scenario in the PSP remake of ''Eternal Punishment''. Sakya mentions that she shares her name with his mother, the Mother Goddess Maya.
* MakingASplash: Maia Prime/Custom. In ''Eternal Punishment'', the initial Maia starts with Aqua instead of [[AnIcePerson Bufu]].
* NegatedMomentOfAwesome: Launching the zeppelin from the Sky Museum's roof seconds before the building explodes... only to then crash it into the ocean.
* OddFriendship: Maya and Ulala. Their Contact option is even described as "Best Friends?" [[spoiler:until defeating Ulala as a boss.]]
* PinkMeansFeminine: Her guns are pink.
* PluckyGirl: As best exemplified by her catch phrase. All together now: "Let's think positive!"
* PlotlineDeath: [[spoiler:Justified in that she was gored by ''[[TheLanceOfLonginus the Spear of Longinus]]'', and thus her blood will keep flowing no matter what]].
* ThePollyanna: Her optimism and refusal to give up saves the group more than once.
* PreAssKickingOneLiner: "It's whoop-ass time!"
* PunctuatedForEmphasis: Has a chance of doing this when you flee from a battle in ''Eternal Punishment'':
-->"See - you - next - time!"
* RecklessGunUsage: In ''Innocent Sin'', the first thing she does upon being given her dual pistols is to start shooting the nearest wall like a maniac.
* SailorFuku: Young Maya wears this in flashbacks.
* ScarsAreForever: She has severe burn scars on her body and is highly self-conscious about them, too the point that she won't try out things such as scuba diving over the pretext of having to wear a swimsuit.
* ScrewDestiny: In a defiantly-[[{{Kawaiiko}} kawaii]] example of this trope, Maya cheerfully burns her Seven Sisters emblem, which serves as a ward against the JOKER.
* ShipTease: With Tatsuya in ''Eternal Punishment''.
* SignatureMove: ''Crescent Mirror''. In ''Innocent Sin'', her "Omni Dimension" also seems to be treated as one, as she [[CallingYourAttacks specifically calls it by name when casting it]].
* SupportingProtagonist: In ''Eternal Punishment'', while she's the main character, the game is more so about Tatsuya.
* SquishyWizard: Her stat growth in ''Innocent Sin'' favors Dexterity and Agility, and her Personas learn a healthy mixture of attack and healing spells. When she becomes the protagonist in ''Eternal Punishment,'' you can potentially make her Dexterity even more explosive, as the player can influence the protagonist's stat distribution upon leveling up.
* TeamMom: Takes on a motherly role amongst the group.
* TokenAdult:
** After Yukino leaves in ''Innocent Sin'', she becomes the sole adult (age 23) among a party of high-school students in their mid-to-late teens.
** Also serves this in a meta-sense, as she's the only adult protagonist in ''Persona''. Every other protagonist in the franchise (including [[VideoGame/ShinMegamiTenseiIf Tamaki]] and the [[VideoGame/Persona3 P3P Heroine]]) is a high-schooler aging around 15-17, with only [[VideoGame/Persona3 Aigis]] from ''The Answer'' being the partial exception due to her [[RobotGirl robotic]] nature.[[note]]Aigis was only 9 when S.E.E.S. first found her and was 10 during ''The Answer'', but she did attend the same high school as the MC did so that she can both protect the MC and learn how to become a human.[[/note]]
%%* TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Canned crab. Her entire fridge is loaded with it.
* TragicKeepsake: Her stuffed bunny, Mr. Bunbun, [[spoiler:was a good luck charm she had given to her father as he was headed to a war-zone]].
* TrashOfTheTitans: Maya's apartment.
* TurnTheOtherCheek: Maya's not one to hold a grudge. At the end of ''Innocent Sin'', Nyaralathotep mocks her for trying to hate him by noting that forgiveness is her whole schtick.
* UniversalDriversLicense: Subverted. She THINKS she's got enough skill to have one.
* VictoriousChildhoodFriend: With Tatsuya, if the player chooses to romance her in ''Innocent Sin''. Also played straight in ''Eternal Punishment'' with a slice of LoveHurts.
* WesternZodiac: Cancer.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: She has pyrophobia, thanks to [[spoiler:nearly dying at the shrine thanks to Tatsuya Sudou's arson.]] To gain her Prime Persona, you need to let her overcome this.
* WomenDrivers: Maya thinks her driving license is universal and applies to [[spoiler:blimps and boats]]. Yukino warns the group not to let her drive a thing. Several scenes later, cue Maya driving a non-car vehicle...
-->'''Lisa & Eikichi:''' [[SideBet CALLED IT!!!]]

A second-year student at Seven Sisters, and the self-proclaimed QueenBee of her school. Her affinity is with the Lovers Arcana, and [[DishingOutDirt Eros]] is her initial Persona. Lisa, with her GirlPosse in tow, is the archetypal modern Japanese teenager with an allowance to burn, obsessed with clubbing and fashion, and nursing an obdurate crush on resident [[AllGirlsWantBadBoys bad boy]], Tatsuya Suou — except that she’s a [[TokenMinority white girl]] whose parents are American-born Japanophiles. In spite of (or perhaps because of) her strict traditionalist upbringing, Lisa doesn’t share her parents’ fascination with Old World Japan, and flouts their expectations of her any way she can, not least by peppering her speech with Cantonese phrases from the kung-fu movies she loves.

Lisa stumbles into the strange occurrences in Sumaru City when she clues Tatsuya in about threats being levied at him by Kasugayama boss Eikichi Mishina, with whom she later develops a very [[VitriolicBestBuds colorful]] relationship. After she and Tatsuya confront Eikichi, the three accidentally summon [[JackassGenie the Joker]], who blames them for an unspecified “sin”. After investigating the Joker phenomenon alongside Maya Amano and Yukino Mayuzumi, Lisa unwittingly becomes a pawn in the Masked Circle’s plan to catalyze the apocalypse foretold in In Lak’ech.

In ''Eternal Punishment'', Lisa’s relationship with her father is a more positive one, and she’s no longer infatuated with the Tatsuya of “This Side.” Aside from making a reappearance as the lead singer of MUSES, Lisa is also kidnapped alongside Eikichi and Jun, both attempts by Nyarlathotep to force her memories of the “Other Side” back into place. The latter attempt can potentially succeed, and if Lisa regains her memories, she begs the Tatsuya from the “Other Side” to take her back to his world with him.
----
* AccidentalMisnaming: In a [[VolleyingInsults fit of anger]], Eikichi bestows upon her the nickname "[[MeaningfulName Ginko]]", "gin" meaning silver in Japanese, and "-ko" (meaning child) being a common Japanese suffix for female names. The nickname sticks, much to Lisa's chagrin.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Teased as a little girl for her blonde hair and blue eyes.
* AmbiguouslyJewish: Her last name is decidedly Jewish and her father is an obvious expy of Jewish movie actor Steven Seagal, but given how she was raised she mostly likely doesn't identify as Jewish even if she is.
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: Her mother, who renamed herself Akiko, behaves like a YamatoNadeshiko despite being a white American. Her father is a Creator/StevenSeagal {{Expy}} who lives in a traditional Japanese house, practices aikido, and wears hakama at home. He works as a director of a foreign trading company; ironically, his job requires him to wear a three-piece suit and speak English.
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: Lisa confesses her love to Tatsuya twice, once at the Taurus Temple, and again at the end of ''Innocent Sin'' right before [[spoiler:their memories of each other are erased.]]
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: For all their bickering, Eikichi's the one to get pissed off if you choose not to intervene and save Lisa before the fight with Prince Taurus. Likewise, Lisa's foaming at the mouth when Eikichi gets his ass handed to him by Sugimoto, and just barely stops herself from siccing her Persona on him.
* BareFistedMonk: She’s a self-taught martial artist, courtesy of all the kung fu movies she loves to watch.
* BettyAndVeronica: To Maya's Veronica. Or is it the other way around?
* TheBigGirl: This 5’5”, 110lb girl is your party’s heavy.
* BreakTheCutie: [[spoiler:When confronted by her [[EnemyWithout Shadow]], it's revealed that Lisa dates older men for money and experiments with drugs.]]
* ButNotTooForeign: Lisa's family are naturalized Japanese citizens, and Japanese is her first language. Like her father, Lisa is extremely prickly about her ethnicity and goes to any lengths to blend in.
* ClingyJealousGirl: She’s disconcertingly single-minded in her pursuit of Tatsuya. If he rejects her in favor of Jun or Maya at the Taurus Temple, Lisa immediately runs over to Eikichi and decks him.
* DarkSecret: [[spoiler:Her Shadow intimates that Lisa's had a few sugar daddies, and tried drugs in the past.]]
* DishingOutDirt: Her main arsenal of spells are from the Magna line. Interestingly, Venus' SignatureMove, Foamy Lover, is listed as being earth-elemental despite its name and obvious water visuals.
* DudeMagnet: Her looks have made her this, and then some. When the party is trapped in the bomb shelter, one of Yasuo's conditions for letting them out is for Lisa to date him.
* EntitledToHaveYou: Lisa is the most popular girl at Seven Sisters; Tatsuya is the most popular boy. In her mind this obligates Tatsuya to date her. She gets better, though.
* GenderFlip: Lisa’s starting Persona Eros is the male god of sexual love in classical mythology, but is portrayed as female in ''Innocent Sin''.
* GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak: Her favorite activies include collecting fashionable clothing, getting manicures, and reading romance novels alongside imagining herself as the heroines of said novels. She also adores snowboarding and kung-fu, which the fact she is the only party member in ''Innocent Sin'' who fights hand-to-hand combat attests to the latter.
* GirlPosse: Sheba and Mee-ho, her MUSES band mates. They're not really friends; Lisa is distrustful of them and treats them like hangers-on, but she’s genuinely upset when they [[spoiler:are turned into shadowmen by Prince Taurus.]] In the ''Eternal Punishment'' timeline, however, she's genuinely befriended them.
* GratuitousForeignLanguage: Not English, as one might expect, since her parents never taught her the language. Instead, she haphazardly sprinkles around “fangirl” Cantonese phrases when she talks.
* HiddenDepths: [[spoiler:Popular kids have anxieties, too]].
* {{Hypocrite}}: At the beginning of ''Innocent Sin'', she treats her "friends" Sheba and Mee-ho with unconcealed disdain because she believes they’re using her friendship as social currency, even though that's ''exactly'' what she wants out of a relationship with Tatsuya, at least in the beginning. Her Shadow brings this up right before the fight against her.
* IdolSinger: Lisa gets roped into a FakeBand [[spoiler:once per game, with both incidents playing small but critical roles in helping Nyarlathotep fulfill his goal of destroying humanity.]]
* KungFuWizard: Besides having a Persona, Lisa taught herself kung fu from movies. No word on how “authentic” her style, but if it didn’t work, she wouldn’t be [[TheBigGuy The Big Girl]].
* LikeAnOldMarriedCouple: The only accurate way to describe Lisa’s relationship with Eikichi. They can’t stand the sight of each other, and only occasionally have conversations that don’t involve squabbling, but they’re as fiercely loyal to one another as any member of the original Masked Circle.
* LovableAlphaBitch: Justified. Lisa may act the bubbly NiceGirl when it’s just her and the team, but the guidebooks make it clear that she’s a tough-as-nails social climber, and we do catch glimpses of her colder, more arrogant side from time to time. It makes sense, though, that [[spoiler:a child who was bullied for her appearance would try to use her looks to her advantage when the opportunity arises later in life.]]
* NonIndicativeName: Lisa's "Foamy Lover" spell is an earth-elemental spell, despite its name. Indeed, even though her Ultimate Persona is clearly the same Venus/Aphrodite that rose from the ocean in [[Myth/ClassicalMythology Greek mythology]], this Venus still maintains the Magna spell line and her resistance to earth attacks.
* NowOrNeverKiss: [[spoiler:At the end of ''Innocent Sin'', Lisa kisses Tatsuya moments before she loses her memories of the party]].
* OneStatToRuleThemAll: Agility. The rest of her stats aren't too bad (she's no FragileSpeedster), but having although equal Strength and Dexterity means that she doesn’t excel at either of them unless you equip her with certain accessories.
* PhenotypeStereotype: [[{{Deconstruction}} This is the fulcrum of a lot of Lisa’s internal conflict]]. Lisa is a naturalized Japanese citizen with an intense desire to assimilate into modern Japanese society, but can’t because her stereotypically white American appearance means her peers immediately mark her as “a foreigner”, despite Lisa having been denied American cultural markers by her parents, even English. In fact, her character development only really begins during the Aoba Park concert sequence where she, as the lead singer of MUSES, reluctantly admits to the audience that she doesn’t know English.
* PowerFist: You can equip her with gear that can compensate for her low Strength stat, making her Strike attacks ones to be feared.
* RebelliousPrincess: Her Japanophile parents, particularly her father, have tried to push her into being a YamatoNadeshiko, but Lisa isn't having it. In a swift deconstruction of the trope, her Shadow rakes her over the coals for acting the party girl just to spite them, even though behaving that way makes her uncomfortable.
-->'''Shadow Lisa:''' You try too hard to rebel against your parents! You know it, and you hate yourself for it!
* {{Sexophone}}: One of the things her "Seduce” contact inherits from Yuka Ayase.
* ShapedLikeItself: Oh sure, give a girl with the last name ''Silverman'' a nickname like ''Ginko.''
* ShowSomeLeg: The aforementioned “Seduce” contact.
* StalkingIsFunnyIfItsFemaleAfterMale: ''Innocent Sin'' makes something of a RunningGag out of her tendency to follow Tatsuya around, even though he can't stand it.
* TokenMinority: Both in-universe and out. Lisa is currently the only playable non-Japanese Persona user in the series to date, although Ann Takamaki in ''{{VideoGame/Persona 5}}'' is of mixed heritage.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Eikichi. They’ve both got petty nicknames for the other, they can't be in the same room together without launching into VolleyingInsults, and Eikichi frequently finds himself on the wrong end of Lisa’s fists, but when Lisa falls into the unsavory hands of [[{{Ephebophile}} Prince Taurus]], Eikichi coolly remarks that they better go find them — before Lisa [[HiddenBadass murders him]].
* WesternZodiac: Taurus.

Eikichi Mishina is a very flamboyant student of Kasugayama High, the rival school of Seven Sisters High School. His affinity is with the Death Arcana, and his starting Persona is [[MakingASplash Rhadamanthus]]. At a young age, Eikichi was overweight and frequently bullied. After a thug pulled down Eikichi's pants in front of his childhood crush Miyabi Hanakouji, he underwent a radical image makeover, losing weight and training to beat up anyone who mocked him. Due to Eikichi's early discovery of his Persona powers, he practically rules the school as its "leader", known by many as (fittingly) Captain Death/Death Boss.

Eikichi understood the nature of his Persona long before Tatsuya and Lisa did. Like Maya and Eriko, he misunderstood the phenomenon and dubbed his Persona a [[GrimReaper "Spirit of Death"]], which he used to punish anyone who challenged him. Eikichi is also the lead singer of a VisualKei band called [[FakeBand Gas Chamber]], whose logo he wears on his armband. He wears a modified version of Kasugayama High's blue uniform, with a tunic over his pants.
----
* AgentPeacock: It is I, the beautiful magical Michel! Now eat lead.
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: He obtained the position of Kasugayama's Death Boss by beating up bullies with his Persona.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: For all their bickering, Eikichi's the one who gets pissed if you choose not to intervene and save Lisa before the fight with Prince Taurus. Likewise, Lisa's the first to get angry after watching Eikichi get beaten by Sugimoto, intending to sic her Persona on him. It's implied that they share mutual understanding to a degree, due to being more similar in personality and background than either of them care to admit.
* BerserkButton: Do not call him "[[EmbarrassingNickname Undie Boss]]".
* TheBigGuy: He has the highest Attack power in the group, and stands at 185cm, or 6'1", making him not only the tallest member of the party but the tallest playable character in the ''Persona'' series to date.
* BoisterousBruiser: Will not hesitate to proclaim his awesomeness to the world, and he has the magic and the BFG to prove it.
* BruiserWithASoftCenter: Though outwardly self-centered and cocky, Eikichi takes his role as the school leader very seriously, and actively looks out for the welfare of his friends and classmates. He even breaks into a high-security lab to save ''Sugimoto'', of all people.
* BullyHunter: Has never forgotten his torments as a kid, and has made it his mission to strike fear in bullies' hearts.
* ButtMonkey: He is often the butt of the joke and something bad often happens to him during cutscenes.
* CampStraight: Wears the gaudy makeup and jewelry of a visual kei singer and is exceedingly flamboyant and narcissistic, but hits on the ladies.
* CasanovaWannabe: He tries to hit on Maya and Yukino when he first met them only to fail miserably. Later, when Lisa admits that there is someone she likes, Eikichi immediately believes it was him, leading to another bickering between the two.
* CastingAShadow: All his unique Personas have "Mudo" or some variant. Fitting in that they're underworld deities.
* ClarkKenting: According to WordOfGod, Eikichi's dad would throw a fit if he saw Eikichi's getup. So, Eikichi sneaks out of his house every morning, goes to a public restroom, dyes his hair blue, puts on his makeup and jewelry, and then goes to school. On the way home, he reverses the process(!), and Kankichi Michina is apparently oblivious to his son's transformations.
* DarkIsNotEvil: His Tarot arcana is Death, after all. Also, his first impression is that of a self-centered {{Jerkass}} when [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold actually...]]
* DeclarationOfProtection: [[spoiler:If Eikichi is the only one whose original memory has been brought back in ''Eternal Punishment'', he will swear to protect Jun and Lisa.]]
* DoesNotLikeSpam: The son of a sushi chef -- and he hates sushi. Ironically, according to [[spoiler:an easter egg in ''Persona 3'', he end up taking over his father's business]].
* DreadfulMusician:
** Nobody in his band can play instruments. Eikichi believes they will achieve fame through his vocals alone.
** According to the TV station ''Who's Who'' in ''Persona 3'', [[spoiler:Eikichi wound up training to take over the sushi shop, also mentioning that he's a band leader.]]
* EverybodyHatesHades: He is not very liked at school and even his team mates are annoyed by his narcissism at times.
* ExplainExplainOhCrap: Hilariously inverted when he talks about the discovery of how Ginji gets a bit frisky with younger girls including Lisa, beginning with Eikichi being mortified at first before eventually going calm as he explains it once he realizes that this is Lisa he is talking about and that they should probably hurry over before the girl kills him.
* GatlingGood: His weapon is a machine gun concealed in a violin case.
* GenderBlenderName: Subverted with his stage name, Michel, which is pronounced the same way as the common feminine name Michelle, but is actually a male given name in Dutch and French.
* GratuitousEnglish: "HELLO, BABY", "OHKEI EBURIBODY", "MAI SUITO SUITO HANIIS", "MAI FURENZU", among many others.
* HotBlooded: He's passionate about justice, beauty, and rock n' roll, baby.
* IAmTheBand: His original bandmates don't even merit profile pics. (Well, ''one'' of them does).
* IdiotHero: Behaves like he's on-stage ''all the time''. Mind you, this dork has never been asked to performed in public.
* InsistentTerminology: Prefers to be referred to by his stage name, [[GenderBlenderName Michel]]. But you can call him "[[TryToFitThatOnABusinessCard beautiful awesome Master Michel]]."
* InstrumentOfMurder: Fights with a machine gun of some kind hidden in his guitar case.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: [[HiddenDepths Ohhhhhh yes]].
* TheLancer: Serves as Tatsuya's rival, complete with a FireWaterJuxtaposition theme.
* LargeHam: Comes with being the Narcissist, but the script writers seemed to have a great time writing his script. Creator/TroyBaker, when the vocals call for it, further reinforces that Eikichi is over the top as possible.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall:
--> "We ain't in some kinda video game, are we? It ''is'' gonna be the 21st century, right? Come on, "[[WakeUpGoToSchoolSaveTheWorld high school kids fight with the fate of the world hanging in the balance]]"?" (PSX fan translation)\
"This ain't a video game, you know? We're nearly into the 21st century here. Why are high schoolers fighting to save the world?" (PSP translation)
* LightEmUp: ''[[SignatureMove Bloody Honeymoon]]'' deals partially Light damage.
* MakingASplash: His main Personas specialize in Aqua spells, although his growths tend to favor his Strength.
* ManInAKilt: A non-fanservice example.
* MightyGlacier: Promoted by his stat growth, although he is considerably more squishy on the magic side due to low Dexterity. His naturally low speed can be remedied with an Agility Source if you so wish. Michel's access and ability to utilize the GameBreaker fusion spell "Dashing Strike" (Zio+Tackle) along with his high attack makes him very lethal in battle.
* MoreDakka: He uses a machine gun disguised as a guitar case.
* {{Narcissist}}: Constantly looking at his hand mirror and praising his own reflection.
* NonconformistDyedHair: Eikichi dyes his hair dark blue with a lighter blue patch at the front to match his VisualKei aesthetic and his dreams of becoming a rock star. The dye is temporary because he thinks his conservative father would disapprove. While he does have the reputation of a deliquent due to being a known name in an all-boys school and a BullyHunter, he's actually the one keeping order in the place and encouraging all the other students to try their best.
* NonuniformUniform: School dress code don't say nuthin' 'bout tunics!
* OnlySaneMan: Compared to the [[FreudianExcuse rest]] [[StepfordSmiler of]] [[WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds the]] [[DysfunctionJunction cast]], his issues are pretty normal. His "problems" can be summarized as: ''Oh no! I used to be fat!'' '''[[TookALevelInBadass NOW I'M A BADASS!]]''' [[spoiler:Also, I'm scared of my dad not approving of my Visual Kei band.]]
* PluckyComicRelief: He has the most exaggerated reactions, turning him into this.
* RankScalesWithAsskicking: Subverted. [[spoiler:When Sugimoto brands himself the "Chief" and spreads a rumor that he's [[ExactWords stronger than Captain Death]], Eikichi simply [[CurseEscapeClause renounces his own title.]] Commence [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown beating]]]].
* TheRockStar: At least, that's what he wants to be.
* SaveTheVillain: In ''Eternal Punishment'', Eikichi breaks into Kandori's lab and risks his life to save Sugimoto, all because Eikichi is the school's "Boss" and he feels it's his duty to look out for his classmates, even the ones who want to kill him.
* SenselessViolins: His weapon? A [[GatlingGood gatling gun]] concealed within a guitar case.
* SensoryAbuse: Eikichi's laughably-bad synth song, "Luv Beam". Though to be honest, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi5dSZZIYQA the actual CD version]] is really catchy.
* SignatureMove: ''Bloody Honeymoon''.
* SmallNameBigEgo: He constantly brags on how popular he is.
* SpikyHair: As part of his Visual Kei style.
* SummonBackupDancers: In his Contact option "Death By Song", Eikichi busts out a mic, summoning both Tatsuya ''and'' Jun to play backup.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: Played absolutely, painfully straight with Eikichi, who demonstrates this many times in facepalm-evoking ways.
-->'''Maya:''' Hm...there's something fishy going on.\
'''Eikichi:''' It's not a lie, babes! I'm not looking for the principal of Sevens, nor was I stepped on by the Joker!\
'''Maya:''' [[CaptainObvious You know something about the Joker, don't you?!]]
* ThisIsMySide: Another of his Contact options.
* TookALevelInBadAss: Eikichi takes every measure to erase his original persona as a chubby, shy loser.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Lisa.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Lives in mortal fear of his traditionalist father seeing him wearing makeup and [[spoiler:eventually takes over the sushi restaurant years later.]]
* WesternZodiac: Scorpio.

Yukino is a returning playable character from the first ''VideoGame/{{Persona|1}}''. In ''Innocent Sin'', she is once again playable, working as a freelance photographer under Shunsuke Fujii (who she has had a crush on for a long while), and is close friends with teen magazine journalist Maya Amano. Like before, her starting Persona is [[PlayingWithFire Vesta]] of the Empress Arcana. She is later replaced by Jun, though her ultimate fate is dependent on the player's actions.

In ''Eternal Punishment'', Yukino is downgraded to a supporting character. She assists in Maya's current assignment by getting in touch with her former teacher Saeko Takami, who now works at Seven Sisters High School. Yukino will rejoin the rest of her former classmates later in the game, fighting off the New World Order soldiers that are trying to take over the city.
----
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: Harbors an unspoken crush on her mentor, Fujii Shunsuke.
* AmbiguouslyBi: [[spoiler:Her shadow grabs Anna and deeply kisses her in the lips. A person and a shadow are closely connected, so Yukino must feel that way on ''some'' level.]]
* AtomicSuperpower: Both her Personas have the Nuclear element Frei line of spells.
* BackToBackBadasses: With Anna in both scenarios. There are two ways this can go down: Yukino succeeds in pulling Anna back from the brink, and the pair of them set off to fight Nazis with the other St. Hermelin grads; or, in the 'Bad' story path, Anna is shown battling alongside Shadow Yukino at Caracol, and you must fight them.
* CameraFiend
* CastingAShadow: Durga learns Mamudo.
* CoolBigSis: Functions more like this than her former role as TeamMom in the first game, though she is a rather DeadpanSnarker version of this.
* CrutchCharacter: When she first joins in ''Innocent Sin'', she sits at level 5, enabling the rest of the team to potentially use level 10 personas without leveling up. On top of that, she has a ton of health. While this evens out over the course of the game, this trope comes back into play if the player makes the right choice at Mt. Caracol, thus making her the first party member to obtain their Ultimate Persona.
* DangerouslyCloseShave: Her weapons are a set of razors. (It makes more sense if you've played the first game.)
* DemotedToExtra: In ''Eternal Punishment''[[spoiler:, but considering what she went through in ''Innocent Sin'', this is arguably a blessing]]. Ulala takes her place as Maya's confidant and bodyguard.
* DisappearedDad: Mentions very early at Lisa's place that her dad straight up ran off with another woman on her and her mother. Yukino admits there's no love lost and that she'd kick his ass if she saw him again.
* EmptyShell: [[spoiler:Should the party leave Yukino to mourn, after her Shadow kills herself and Anna, when the party meets with Philemon, he will reveal to them Yukino, who has literally become a mindless, empty husk of her self.]]
* FlechetteStorm: Just like last time, she throws razorblades.
* GeniusBruiser: She's more brawny than brainy but still has a brilliant mind. So much in fact that she could become a teacher.
* GuestStarPartyMember: [[spoiler:Not exactly "guest star", because she leaves the party only after 2/3 of the game.]]
* HardWorkHardlyWorks: Something her shadow busts her on; which she hates about herself. The shadow notes that Yuki wanted to be a Teacher like Ms.Saeko and dabbled in Photography to pay her way through school and get close to Fuji. However, despite this, she lacks the brains to be the teacher and the skill for photography. Apparently, Yuki is frustrated that despite her best efforts; she's never going to be good enough to do what she wants to do.
* HeroicBSOD: [[spoiler:Yukino, after her boss/mentor Fujii dies during the Nazi invasion. If you choose not to take Yukino with you, it leads to her death, becoming a EmptyShell]].
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:If you choose not to take Yukino with you, her Shadow commits suicide with Anna and ends with Nyarlathotep taking Yukino's ego into the abyss. Her self of "Other Side" from the ''Eternal Punishment'' timeline won't retain memories of this.]]
%%* NiceGirl
* OnlySaneWoman: Yukino often has to put up with the party's odd behavior several times.
* PassingTheTorch: [[spoiler:After Joker is defeated, she transfers her Persona powers to Jun. However, since the events of ''Innocent Sin'' do not happen in ''Eternal Punishment'', Yukino retains her powers in the latter game.]]
* PlayingWithFire: Her primary element.
* PrecisionFStrike: Against a Longinus that belittled Fujii.
-->''The hell did you just say? '''YOU PIECE OF SHIT!!!!'''''
* RetiredBadass: Former gang kid, so she was badass in a different way before being a good guy, as pointed out from the first game. Becomes a straighter example of this in ''Eternal Punishment'', in which she becomes a minor character.
* ShockAndAwe: Both her Personae have spells of the Zio line.
* SignatureMove: ''Thunder Inferno''. It's ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin.
* {{Tomboy}}: Which she tries to play it down in Fujii's presence to show more of the girly side of her being a TomboyWithAGirlyStreak.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: She is rather tomboyish but still has a kind, motherly, protective personality and also loves ballet according to her profile.
* ToughLove: [[CoolBigSis Even when she talks to demons, she gives them this treatment]].
* WesternZodiac: Aries.

A third-year high school student who was recently transferred to Kasugayama High School after he awoke to his Persona [[BullyingADragon and injured some of his school bullies]]. His affinity is with the Fortune Arcana and his starting Persona is [[BlowYouAway Hermes]]. Jun is the son of a locally-famous actress and a high school history teacher whose messy separation and divorce, coupled with his mother’s emotional abuse, led him to run away from home at the age of seventeen.

In ''Eternal Punishment'', Jun's childhood is ''much'' better. In the new timeline, his parents are alive and HappilyMarried, and he retains his father’s surname, Kashihara. He plays a role early in the game when he’s lured to the Sky Museum by King Leo, hoping to jog his memories of the Other Side, and he’s later captured and knocked unconscious by Nyarlathotep along with Lisa and Eikichi during the final battle of the game. The three finally meet in the present timeline at the Alaya Shrine during the end of the game.
----
* NumberOneDime: An expensive watch Tatsuya gave him when they were children. In exchange, Jun traded him a Zippo lighter engraved with a quote from ''Literature/TheLittlePrince''. Both the watch and the exchange itself are represented in his exclusive Personas.
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:Throughout the third act of ''Innocent Sin''. On several occasions, Maya and Lisa point out that Jun is blaming himself for the foibles of his parent, yet again]].
* AgentPeacock: Hoo boy, he's the only outright gay party member, rather short at 5'7 (169 cm), a very beautiful BadassBookworm and he fights with [[ImprobableWeaponUser flowers]] of all things but he's just as deadly as his friends if not more so.
* AttractiveBentGender: His official profile states that [[{{WholesomeCrossdresser}} crossdressing]] is one of his talents, to the point where he looks better in a dress than most girls. His group negotiation contact with Lisa even involves her tackling him and putting makeup on him...and then moping over how much prettier than her he is.
* BadassAdorable: He's on the shorter side at 5'7" (169 cm) and ''very'' [[{{Bishonen}} pretty]], but is just as effective in battle as his more masculine companions. He was also [[BigBad the]] [[DiscOneFinalBoss Joker]], and you wouldn't be too far off the mark to call him the most dangerous member of the original Masked Circle.
* BadassBookworm: He's both sensitive and brainy, and more than a little Machiavellian.
* BarrierMaiden: In ''Eternal Punishment'', [[spoiler:he is the last member of the ''Innocent Sin'' party whose memories need to be awakened. If Maya and co. failed to prevent Eikichi and Lisa from having their memories restored, he can end up the only thing standing between This Side and armageddon.]]
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: For years, [[spoiler:Nyarlathotep has impersonated the dead Akinari Kashihara]], having assumed all the characteristics Jun wished for in a father to manipulate him.
* BestServedCold: [[spoiler:Jun crafted his Joker identity partially to wreak vengeance on Tatsuya, Lisa, and Eikichi, whom he blames for Maya Amano's "death".]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Jun is a soft-spoken, compassionate young man with a brilliant mind, but was shipped off to Kasugayama, a reform school. Why? His newly-awakened Persona ''mauled some of his bullies''. Mock him for his love of flowers, astrology or reading and you might find yourself pushing them up.
* BlowYouAway: His exclusive Personas specialize in wind spells.
* BullyingADragon: Jun's school bullies end up learning the hard way that he isn't to be trifled with.
* ChangingClothesIsAFreeAction: [[spoiler:The Joker]] is like a Persona; he can summon his costume on command, rather than ducking into a room to change.
* ClosetKey: Optionally to Tatsuya, if chosen as the love interest. Jun looks and acts like he's never ''seen'' a closet, much less been in one.
* CulturedBadass: With a range of interests like his, from physics to philosophy to astronomy, he's more or less a {{Polymath}} who kicks ass with flowers.
* DefeatMeansPlayable: To have him in your party, you must first defeat the Joker, [[spoiler:his villainous alter ego]].
* DesperatelyCravesAffection: More than anything else, Jun yearns for the love and affection he didn't receive as a child.
* EasilyForgiven: Justified. His activities as the Joker were brought about by a combination of mind control, emotional manipulation, and the rumor system. The other members of the party recognize this, and it makes it hard for them to hold his actions against him.
* FlowerMotifs: Jun is fluent in ''hanakotoba'', the Japanese flower language. [[spoiler:As the Joker, flowers become his CallingCard.]]
* ForgottenFriendNewFoe: The other four members of the original Masked Circle forced themselves to forget each other and the Alaya Shrine fire. Jun couldn’t, and ten years later he reappears as the vengeful Joker, convinced by Nyarlathotep that his former friends let Maya Amano die in the shrine.
* FreudianExcuse:
** In the ''Innocent Sin'' timeline, Jun is the product of an ''ugly'' divorce and (after his father died) unchecked emotional abuse at the hands of [[EvilMatriarch his mother]].
** This is averted in ''Eternal Punishment'', where both of his parents are alive and HappilyMarried. As a result, Jun has a better, happier childhood.
* GayOption: To Tatsuya. It doesn't make any great changes to the storyline, but gives them a group contact together.
* HereditaryHairstyle: His bangs cover his right eye; his mother wears hers in the exact same way.
* HouseHusband: Somewhat unsurprisingly, he's got the skills to be one; according to the guidebook he can cook and clean quite well (and enjoys it), no doubt as a consequence of picking up after his mother for years.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Better not laugh at someone who can send your ass to the cleaners with a daisy.
* LightEmUp: [[SignatureMove Cross Fortune]] partially deals Light damage.
* MoreThanMindControl: There’s no doubt that Nyarlathotep ''did'' directly alter Jun’s memories of what actually took place at the Alaya Shrine, which went a long way in precipitating him becoming the Joker. But just as crucial to that development was Nyarlathotep appearing to Jun as Akinari Kashihara, his dead father, taking advantage of his desperate desire for ''any'' sort of stable parental figure to manipulate him into forming the second Masked Circle and fulfilling the prophecies of In Lak’ech.
* NightmareFetishist: Considering how his [[spoiler:Alter Ego Joker takes after a MonsterClown]], his interest in mythology and horror as well as his association with the supernatural all of which he also had as a child it's save to assume he's one.
* NomDeMom: In ''Innocent Sin'', he uses his mother's surname following his parents' divorce. Though considering Junko's [[EvilMatriarch tendencies]], it's never made clear whether or not this was a decision he made for himself.
** Averted in ''Eternal Punishment'', however. In the new timeline, his parents never split, so he keeps his father's surname.
* ParentalAbandonment / ParentalNeglect: See "Freudian Excuse".
* PrettyBoy: Noted in-universe to be unusually pretty even in comparison to actual women.
* ProudBeauty: Jun is a male example of this trope. He was mercilessly bullied as a child for being "pretty", and now, a decade later, he knows exactly how beautiful he is and has no qualms about using his looks to get what he wants out of people.
* RavenHairIvorySkin: He's dark-haired, pale-skinned, and in possession of one beautiful face.
* RealMenWearPink: While he's TheSmartGuy, a NightmareFetishist and an inventor who loves maths, physics and astonomy he also loves his flowers, astrology and playing the piano.
* ShorterMeansSmarter: TheSmartGuy, and the shortest male member of the original Masked Circle. He doesn't have much on the shortest female member either -- Lisa stands 5'5" (165 cm) to his 5'7" (169 cm).
* SecretlySelfish: [[spoiler:Nyarlathotep]] accuses him of this, shooting down Jun's claims that he just wanted love and affection from his mother and father, and claiming that what he ''really'' wanted was to punish them for screwing up his life.
* SignatureMove: ''Cross Fortune''.
* SignificantDoubleCasting: [[spoiler:He shares his VA with the Joker for a reason.]]
* SixthRanger: He joins late and replaces Yukino in the party roster.
* TheSmartGuy: Without a doubt the most objectively intelligent member of the original Masked Circle. At seventeen, he already has a patent of his own (for an orthopedic shoe, in case you were wondering), and the guidebook notes that he’s excellent at mathematics and physics. He’s also deeply philosophical, and has more sophisticated hobbies (''hanakotoba'', astrology) than his peers.
* SomethingAboutARose: He wears a yellow iris in the buttonhole of his coat, meant to signify [[BestServedCold vengeance]].
** On his character sprite, the iris is royal blue.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: [[HereditaryHairstyle Bangs aside]], he's the spitting image of his mother, especially with makeup on.
* SweetTooth: A downplayed example -- the guidebook states one of his favorite foods is chocolate.
* ThemeSongReveal: His theme sounds like a calmer version of Joker's theme. As we find out later [[spoiler:this is not a coincidence as they are actually the same person.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: There's a good reason you don't see much of him in the ''Innocent Sin'' game intros. [[spoiler:He's the Joker, the main antagonist you contend with for the first half of the game, and later your final party member.]]
* WesternZodiac: Aquarius.
* WoundedGazelleGambit: His default mode in battle is to act weak to surprise his enemies of how capable of fighting he actually is. Jun is so used to being underestimated.

Katsuya Suou is a detective of the Kounan Police Department. His current rank is Sergeant of the Homicide Division, and his starting Persona is [[PlayingWithFire Helios]] of the Justice Arcana. Katsuya is very straight-laced, even in the face of paranormal activity (he often wonders aloud whether the penal code can apply to demons). Katsuya cares a great deal for his brother, and gets depressed very easily if Tatsuya spurns his help. After a confrontation with the JOKER at Seven Sisters High School, Katsuya invites Maya and her friend Ulala to join him in his investigation so he can ensure their safety.
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: Katsuya's skin is noticeably darker in the updated PSP artwork, though perhaps not quite to the same extent as his brother's.
* AgentScully: Though he is completely open to the possibly of demons (he's a skeptic, not an idiot), it's a little naive of him to expect to include such outrageous claims in his police reports.
* AllegedlyDateless: WordOfGod says he's hopeless with the opposite sex, despite being adored by the women in his precinct, not unlike his younger brother with his schoolmates.
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: He definitely has a crush on Maya and this definitely can be the case, if she chooses to pursue his younger brother Tatsuya instead of him.
* AloofBigBrother: In ''Innocent Sin'', Tatsuya's big brother Katsuya appears to be a cold-hearted jerk preoccupied with his job. However, ''Eternal Punishment'' subverts this by showing us Katsuya's point of view -- he sacrificed his dream of becoming a pastry chef in favor of a more "pragmatic" job as a police officer to support his brother, and tries as best he can to be there for him in spite of his own feelings of lingering resentment at essentially being forced to become a parent, only for Tatsuya to brush off any effort that he makes.
* AtomicSuperpower: Hyperion learns Heat Kaiser, which is arguably the best Nuclear spell in the game.
* BadassInANiceSuit: He's a hardass arson/homicide detective whose character portraits have him wearing a sharp three-piece in both ''Innocent Sin'' and ''Eternal Punishment'', [[spoiler:and come ''VideoGame/{{Persona 3}}'' when he appears on an in-universe television show, he's described as "a man in his 30's who dresses in very stylish suits".]]
* BettyAndVeronica: The Betty to [[SiblingTriangle his younger brother]] Tatsuya's Veronica.
* ByTheBookCop: Believes very much in the letter of the law, which is why he and Baofu don't get along. He even verges into LawfulStupid at times (dude tries to read ''demons'' their rights!).
* CannotSpitItOut: He also has a ''huge'' crush on [[spoiler:Maya Amano]], and because he's got a crippling case of this, he calls her [[spoiler:Ms. Amano]], even towards the end of the game.
-->"You're a strong woman. Don't let anyone tell you different."
* TheCaretaker: Katsuya assumed this role with Tatsuya after their father was disgraced.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Due to the different PointOfView between the games. He's a jerk from Tatsuya's perspective, but from Maya's perspective, he's stressed out due to Tatsuya's petulant behavior.
* CluelessChickMagnet: Katsuya is ''very'' popular among the female officers, but is totally [[ObliviouslyBeautiful oblivious]] to it. He's similar to his brother in that respect. In an NPC conversation, it's revealed he was given a cake for Valentine's Day. He wound up offering professional advice on the taste to the poor woman, and ''not even knowing why he was given the cake, since it's not his birthday''.
* TheComicallySerious: He ponders whether the penal code applies to demons.
* CoolShades: [[TheNineties In all their '90s glory]]. [[spoiler:Judging from a brief mention of him in a TV program, he still keeps his glasses [[VideoGame/{{Persona5}} many years later]]]].
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: He's a serious, no-nonsense cop dedicated to his craft, but outside of his job, the man ''definitely'' has his moments.
-->'''Katsuya:''' Can you apply the penal code to demons?
* {{Determinator}}: This man has sworn to put an end to the JOKER case, and he doesn't let corruption or superpowered beings stand in his way. Several characters in the games, the villains included, lampshade his zeal.
* FairCop: Comes with being so straight-laced.
* FanservicePack: He looks like a hardassed, somewhat unattractive version of himself in ''Innocent Sin'', though since he's seen from Tatsuya's POV, this is Tatsuya's perception of him. ''Eternal Punishment'' pretties him up slightly by virtue of seeing him via Maya's POV.
* GeniusBruiser: [[TheSmartGuy Clever]] enough to deduce mysteries in the case. Has the highest Strength stat naturally.
* GoodCopBadCop: Katsuya and Baofu's Contact option.
* TheGunslinger: Wields a standard police handgun.
* HonorBeforeReason: When plausible, he would rather save even dangerous criminals so they can be tried in court than leave them to die.
* HotbloodedSideburns: He actually has quite the short temper and is very reckless. This is even [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] by an officer at Konan PD.
* HPToOne: Justice Shot's effect.
* IronicAllergy: Is a KindheartedCatLover with a cat-themed Persona, but is severely allergic to cats. It gets to the point that in some cutscenes, he's allergic to a demon who's disguised as a cat. It's a wonder Helios doesn't cause a reaction. The form of his Persona - which is [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]], by the way - is a means to ''mock'' Katsuya for his inability to obtain anything he desires.
* KindheartedCatLover: Katsuya turns into a big softie over cats, [[RealMenWearPink which he finds cute]]. He's even pleased his initial Persona manifests as a cat. He also laments having to [[spoiler:defeat Shiki, Wang Long Chizuru's cat at Sumaru TV at first]]. Unfortunately, cats also seem to give him allergies.
* ICouldaBeenAContender: He only became a police officer because it was expected of him. His secret dream was to be a ''(awkward cough)'' ....[-pastry chef-].
** That's "[[InsistentTerminology patissier]]"!
* TheLancer: While Maya is the main character, as a police officer, he's probably the most qualified member of the party to be handling the chaos in Sumaru City (not that that's saying much).
* LawfulStupid: Mostly played for laughs. He gets upset when you try to drive a robot without a license or [[NoHeroDiscount jump fare]]!
* LightEmUp: Hyperion can learn Mahama if you mutate him.
* MightyGlacier: Hits hard, but he is not very fast.
* MilitarySalute: Is the only one to salute back to [[spoiler:Lieutenant General Zula]] in the PSP remake of ''Eternal Punishment''. [[KindHeartedCatLover Easy to figure out why.]]
* MustHaveCaffeine: Remarks on having drunk a lot of coffee.
* NiceGuy: Averted in ''Innocent Sin''; he's an asshole because you're seeing him the way Tatsuya sees him.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Rose-tinted sunglasses, bowl haircut, and a silk suit? Looks [[Music/TheBeatles oddly familiar]]...
* PetTheDog: Katsuya isn't quite as nice and understanding in ''Innocent Sin''. There are, however, [=NPCs=] giving second-hand accounts of Katsuya showing his true colors when you're not around. [[spoiler:Once Tatsuya & co. become wanted criminals, you hear that Katsuya is hanging up wanted posters of a person whose face resembles his own, and he looks very sad. But when Katsuya hears the opposing rumor, that Tatsuya & co. are heroes who rescued schoolchildren, you hear that his "face lit up like never before."]]
* PerpSweating: His Contact option. Made even funnier by the fact he's interrogating demons.
* PlayingWithFire: His primary element.
* PromotionToParent: To his seven-years-younger brother, and a more truthful example than most.
* RashomonStyle: His portrayal in ''Innocent Sin'' is pretty loathsome. This is a sneering bully who resents having to raise his brother alone, ignores all signs of impending danger for the city, and uses his badge almost as an expansion of his ego. ''Eternal Punishment'' reveals how exaggerated Tatsuya's image of him is, although it's not hard to see some grains of truth. Katsuya ''does'' resent his brother to a degree, and his life ''is'' hampered by having to constantly keep Tatsuya in line. The relationship between the Suou brothers is vaguely adversarial, but with a lot of love, too (Katsuya can berate Tatsuya until he's blue in the face, but will sing his praises in private), like most families. Katsuya himself is torn between his human desires and his professional and moral responsibilities, or rather his wants and his needs. Because we don't see his father (let alone [[MissingMom his mother]]) doing anything about Tatsuya, he's a realistic look at just how strenuous PromotionToParent really is on a person.
* RealMenWearPink: Doesn't have a problem taking tips from women's fashion, such as wearing makeup or trimming his eyebrows. He's also fond of baking and housewife shows, and likes to play with cats because they're cute even though he's allergic to them.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure
* TheResenter: He's angry because he threw away his own dreams to raise Tatsuya. Which, arguably, he could have lived with; but Tatsuya's rebellious attitude made it seem like Katsuya was getting slapped in the face for all of his efforts.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The sensitive guy to Baofu's manly man.
* SharpDressedMan: Apparently, he [[InvokedTrope invokes]] this deliberately; WordOfGod says Katsuya keeps up with the latest fashions to give the impression that he's suave and in touch with pop culture, despite being neither of those things.
* ShockAndAwe: Helios can learn Zio if you mutate him.
* SiblingTeam: In ''Eternal Punishment'', he fights alongside his younger brother Tatsuya.
* SignatureMove: ''[[FullContactMagic Justice Shot]]''.
* SilverFox: By the time ''Persona 5'' takes place, in a TV program, he is described as a "handsome detective with red glasses".
* SkewedPriorities: A scene in ''Eternal Punishment'', wherein Katsuya and Baofu are forced to run through a really hot tunnel. They are both worried about their shades melting.
* TheSmartGuy: He's a seasoned homicide detective who can make deductions about the mystery that nobody else can.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: Wore specs even as a student, so they're not just for show.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: With Baofu. Katsuya would rather toss him in the slammer, while Baofu in turn considers Katsuya to be an irritant and a wimp.
* TellMeAboutMyFather: His final exchange with Captain Togashi.
* ToBeLawfulOrGood: After he refuses to associate with his [[PoliceAreUseless corrupt department]] any longer.
* WesternZodiac: Capricorn.

Ulala Serizawa is Maya Amano's longtime friend and roommate. She often pulls the latter to so-called "matchmaker parties" to meet men, despite a pattern of being swindled by past boyfriends. Ulala does boxing as a means for her to get revenge on the man who swindled her without getting the police involved; if she called the police, she couldn't beat him to a pulp, after all! Her initial Persona is [[DishingOutDirt Callisto]] of the Star Arcana. Ulala makes her living by selling lingerie, but is outwardly obsessed with fortune telling, and looks up to the famous TV seer Wang Long Chizuru. One of her contacts involves her telling fortunes to encountered demons, and she also subscribes to a cellphone-based Wang Long fortune service. Ulala is also fond of ghost stories, and will be able to tell some when accompanied by the right party members.

Ulala is first introduced in ''Innocent Sin'', when the party visits GOLD Gym when searching for King Leo's message. Credited as "Maya's Roommate", she is advised by Maya to leave the building due to King Leo's looming bomb threat. In ''Eternal Punishment'', Ulala tends to be the cheeriest character in the ''Eternal Punishment'' group next to Maya, but panics easily when a situation takes a turn for the worse. She locks horns with Baofu repeatedly during the course of the game, despite having more in common with each other than anyone else.

Ulala appears on the TV show Who's Who in ''Persona 3'', along with more ''Persona 1'' and ''2'' characters. Trish describes her as a woman in her 30's with a beauty spot under her eye, and also mentions that she can dance the flamenco (which is one of her special contacts in ''Eternal Punishment''). Trish wonders what she'd look like with a rose in her mouth, in a reference to her demon contact combo, Flamenco de la Pasion.
----
* ArachnidAppearanceAndAttire: Her dress has two spiderweb patterns sewn into it.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: There's her history of bad boyfriends, and over time, she develops feelings for [[spoiler:Baofu]].
* BareFistedMonk: She is a trained boxer and primarily fights with her fists, even turning down one of the pistols offered by JOKER.
* TheBigGuy: Well, girl. Her primary contribution to the party is to punch things to death.
* BlowYouAway: Asteria's specialty.
* TheComplainerIsAlwaysWrong
* DartboardOfHate: An 8x10 of Youichi Makimura is taped to her punching bag.
* DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife: After healing herself of the JOKER Curse, Ulala reveals that she DID obtain certificates and licenses for various jobs, but reveals that none of them satisfied her, nor did she find any future in any of them. Because of her lack of direction in life, she started to resent Maya who did manage to find a career she liked and have a plan for the future. Which in turn [[spoiler:lead to Maya being cursed by the JOKER.]] Ulala's CharacterDevelopment is overcoming those same insecurities and jealousies that she initially had against Maya and finding her own way and path that would make her happy.
* DishingOutDirt: Callisto specialises in this element.
* FaceMonsterTurn: Revealed later in the game to be the one who [[spoiler:dialed JOKER to kill Maya]], setting the events of ''Eternal Punishment'' into motion. This comes back to bite her when Wang Long Chizuru broadcasts a rumor that JOKER [[spoiler:infects anyone who performed the curse]].
* FortuneTeller: She's obsessed with horoscopes, and even uses them in her Contact option.
* GoodOldFisticuffs: She is so confident in her boxing skills that she turns down a gun when it's offered to her.
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: She admits to drinking a lot.
* HeartbrokenBadass: Her heart was broken by a con artist. Her response: TakeALevelInBadass so she could shove his teeth down his throat.
* KungFuWizard: Besides her Persona powers, she's also a pretty damn good boxer.
* TheLadette: Though she's still a much better housekeeper and cook than Maya.
* OneStatToRuleThemAll: Loves to favor agility and her Arcana, The Star, allows her to boost it up too. She does tend to neglect her strength; which can be a slight problem as Strike weakness is one you're going to want to exploit. A handy Strength Source fixes this easily.
%%* OfficialCouple: With Baofu. It takes a good while to get there though.
* MagicDance: Her unlockable Contact option is the Flamenco, with Katsuya on acoustic guitar.
* TheNicknamer:
** In the English localization, her pet name for Baofu is "Bao".
** Once Tatsuya joins up, Ulala starts referring to him and his brother as "Big Suou" and "Little Suou".
%%* PowerFist
* RageAgainstTheReflection: In the opening cinematic.
* TheResenter: [[spoiler:A scene at the Monado Mondala reveals Ulala laying heaving into Maya and showing her resentment. This implies that Ulala may not exactly have been drunk when she performed the Joker Curse.]]
* SoundEffectBleep: Ulala's rather... spirited fight banter, US version only.
* SuddenlyAlwaysKnewThat: Before you can kick Youichi Makimura's ass in ''Innocent Sin'', Ulala bursts in and summons a Persona(!), then chases Makimura out, screaming that she's going to kill him for running off with her money. Seems Maya taught her how to use a Persona when they were drunk.
* TakeALevelInBadass: Borderline DirtyCoward in the beginning of the game, but attains a lot of spine along with some CharacterDevelopment after Maya frees her from the [[spoiler:JOKER curse.]]
%%* VitriolicBestBuds: With Baofu.
%%* WesternZodiac: Sagitarius.

Baofu is a so-called "Tap Buster", an extortionist who uses wiretapping to further his vendetta against the people who have done him wrong, particularly [[ArchEnemy Tatsuzou Sudou]] and the Tien Tao Len, a Taiwanese Mafia group. He claims he's from Taiwan, but is perfectly fluent in Japanese. Baofu's affinity is with the Hanged Man Arcana, with [[BlowYouAway Odysseus]] as his initial Persona.

Aside from wiretapping, Baofu also runs a bulletin board website called "The Darkside Of Sumaru City", where he sorts through various urban legends to find information that might be relevant to him. He joins Maya's party following a rendezvous arranged online, and performs a test on the effectiveness of the Kotodama, the curse where rumors can come true when spread around town. Because of his shady personality and propositions, the party finds it hard to trust him, especially Katsuya Suou.

In ''Eternal Punishment'', Kei can develop a hidden Contact option with Baofu called "Song Of A Baseball Fan" where the pair quarrel over which baseball team is the greatest. This parallels the [[SeriousBusiness typical debates]] in real-life Japanese baseball fandom.
----
* TheAlcoholic: Even before [[spoiler:adopting his false identity]], Baofu enjoyed tipping a few back.
* BadassInANiceSuit: He's not exactly ''inconspicuously'' dressed.
* BestServedCold: Formerly a [[spoiler:special prosecutor]], he was forced to [[FakingTheDead fake his death]] after the Taiwanese mafia attempted to kill him. He has spent his days hunting the man who ordered the hit, Tatsuzou Sudou.
* BlackAndGreyMorality: Baofu, like Katsuya, has honorable intentions on bringing perps to justice. How that's achieved is quite different. Katsuya would prefer to do things by the book and let the legal system work. Baofu, however knows that the law is made and ran by humans, who can easily be bribed or manipulated, and thus thinks the right way of dealing with criminals is to beat or kill them.
* BlowYouAway: Odysseus's element.
* BoisterousBruiser: "I feel sorry for you" indeed.
* ClosestThingWeGot: A gameplay example. No playable character in either ''Persona 2'' game possesses Great affinity with the Tower arcana; he's the only one to even have Good affinity, and every other male has Normal while all of the women have Bad.
* CreepyGood: He is a very shady character, and the joint contact options make it clear that the other party member feel uneasy around him.
* DeadpanSnarker: [[TheSnarkKnight Dear lord...]]
* DishingOutDirt: Prometheus can learn Mamagnadyne if you mutate him.
* GeniusBruiser: According to WordOfGod, Baofu became a [[spoiler:prosecutor]] because someone he knew mentioned that the examination tests were really hard. He took the exam, and passed with flying colors -- on ''his first try''.
* HackerCave: His "Lair" in Narumi, which effectively becomes the PlayerHeadquarters for a while.
* HeartbrokenBadass: [[spoiler:His lover was murdered by the Taiwanese Mafia, and he wants revenge.]]
* HiddenDepths: It's hard to make out at the time of [=PS1=] graphics, but in the art for his Persona, Odysseus, it fights like a Samurai and the red at the...area of location reveals both [[spoiler:Baofu's true heritage as native Japanese]] and that he's quite proud of said heritage.
* ILetGwenStacyDie: Though Baofu's Persona saved him from from the mafia attack, [[spoiler:his lover was fatally wounded]]. This explains why, on a certain level, he hates his Persona.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Coins. But somewhat justified in that he uses qigong to enhance them, making them as strong as bullets.
* {{Jerkass}}:
-->'''Ulala:''' Hey, everyone, wait up a sec...let's walk a little slower...\
'''Baofu''' ''[after lighting his cigarette]'': Suck it up...if you can't keep up, we're leaving you...
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Ultimately, he is fighting for justice; it's just that his methods are questionable.
* KnowledgeBroker: His rumor-collecting website.
* LovableRogue
* MakingASpectacleOfYourself: His glasses are nowhere close to inconspicuous.
* {{Mangst}}: The typical alcohol and cigarettes noir kind of way.
* MeaningfulName: Baofu means "revenge" in Mandarin Chinese.
** FridgeBrilliance: [[spoiler:He only used that name after his lover was killed.]]
* MoneyMauling: He uses coins as his main melee weapon.
* MrExposition: He tells the party about the Velvet Room, the identity of the JOKER and the man behind it. Even in ''Innocent Sin'', he served as a rumormonger.
* MrSmith: The game's creators joke that, if he was to ever recreate a roster in Japan in order to [[spoiler:[[ShipTease marry Ulala]]]], he could probably pick the surname "Tanaka," which is absurdly common in Japan.
* NervesOfSteel: Only Nyarlathotep has the power to make Baofu lose his perpetual cool... and even then, only for a moment. All that's needed is for him to remind himself that [[spoiler:yep, he's Kaoru '''Fucking''' Saga]].
* NotSoStoic: When Baofu loses it, you ''know'' things just got serious. It takes some doing to rattle him.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: He went to great lengths to ensure that.
* OpaqueLenses: To hide his facial features.
* PrecisionFStrike: Upon meeting Eriko's Stalker in the Kimon Tonkou dungeon, Baofu has one choice question for the man:
-->'''Baofu:''' Who the f##k are you?
* ScareEmStraight: In a flashback depicting Tatsuya and Jun as kids, Baofu stumbles out of a bar and proceeds to put the fear of God into them.
* ScrewDestiny: While this is pretty much in for everyone, Baofu stands out because he's the one who starts by [[DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu saying this to Nyarlathotep]]:
-->''Ahhh, shut up... You can take your fate and stick it up your ass!''
* SeeYouInHell: To the Big Bad, right before Maya/Tatsuya double-team him into oblivion.
* SenseiForScoundrels: Baofu sees something of himself in Tatsuya and takes him aside for manly advice. Unbeknownst to Baofu, he's been doing this since he was a law student!
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The manly man to Katsuya's sensitive guy.
* ShockAndAwe: Prometheus can learn Baptism by Thunder... In spite of being weak to it.
* SignatureMove: ''Wiseman Snap''.
* TheSmartGuy: [[SignatureMove "Wiseman Snap"]], anybody?
* SmokingIsCool: His IdleAnimation.
* TheSnarkKnight: He'll do the job, and won't stop snarking about it.
* SourSupporter: The most cynical member of the group, and an outright {{Foil}} to Katsuya.
* StreetSmart: Comes with his job. He actually gives advice to Tatsuya.
* SunglassesAtNight: Those shades NEVER come off. Justified because he's trying to hide his face.
* SymbolSwearing: Due to the PSX censoring.
* ThatManIsDead: Subverted after settling his old vendetta with Yung Pao (and his subsequent 'outing' by Katsuya). By the end of the game, Baofu's taken to calling himself by his real name again.
* TortureForFunAndInformation: His Contact option when paired with Katsuya. The screen cuts to black, and a sharp crack is heard, implying that Bafou is smacking the ever-loving crap out of the demon.
* TrademarkFavoriteDrink: He likes him his booze.
* VoiceWithAnInternetConnection: Maya needs to post on his website before he'll meet in person.
* VigilanteMan: Baofu hates Katsuya at first, probably because on some level, Katsuya [[spoiler:reminds him of how green he was in his early days of law enforcement]]; but don't let his shady dealings or attitude fool the player. Like Katsuya, Baofu does have the interest of bringing people to justice, but he's older and seasoned enough to know that the law is not always going to be effective. What makes him an interesting foil to Katsuya is the theme of letter vs. spirit of the law, with Baofu being the spirit to Katsuya's letter.
* WesternZodiac: Gemini.
* WhatExactlyIsHisJob: He doesn't just sweep for bugs -- He plants them.

Kei is a former playable character from ''Revelations: Persona''. In ''Innocent Sin'', he is a supporting character who appears at the Abandoned Factory in Kounan, drawn to rumors that a person resembling Kandori is in Sumaru City (The person in question turns out to be Reiji Kido, who isn't too happy about being mistaken as his hated half-brother). When you talk to him, Kei will give Tatsuya Suou his [[InfinityPlusOneSword ultimate weapon]]. During the invasion of Hitler's Last Battalion, he joins his former classmates to fight against the Nazis unless certain conditions are met earlier in the game.

In ''Persona 2: Eternal Punishment'', he is a playable character, and like in the first game, his initial Persona is [[LightEmUp Aizen Myouou]] of the Hierophant Arcana. Sneak mentions that there are two people (a man and a woman) investigating the New World Order. If Maya spreads the rumor that the person with information on the NWO is a man, you will get Kei to join. He now uses katanas like Tatsuya, and when using his demon contacts, Kei still mentions his beloved butler Yamaoka, and how he intends to honor the promise he made years ago to become "the #1 man in Japan".

Kei will take the group to a Science Lab run by Tatsuzou Sudou and funded by the Nanjo Group, where youths who allegedly performed the Joker Curse are kidnapped and drained of Kegare. The party will run into Kei's old classmates Reiji Kido and Maki Sonomura around the sewer entrance, assisting in their covert infiltration by working the floodgates. Kei will rejoin the rest of his former classmates later in the game (with Tatsuya taking his place in Maya's party), fighting off the New World Order soldiers that are trying to take over the city.
----
* BadassBiker: Get a good look at that pic, because he never takes off the helmet in-game.
* BattleButler: Not him but his Ultimate Persona Yamaoka. A HoverBoard surfing, naginata wielding angelic butler to be precise.
* CatchPhrase: No. #1.
* CoolBoat: Too bad Maya completely trashes it.
* CoolHouse: Has a luxurious penthouse full of expensive equipment.
* CoolSword: Just like last time, he uses a two-handed sword, same as Tatsuya.
* DishingOutDirt: Aizen Myouou can learn Maha-Magnus (or Mamagnara).
* DumpStat: The AI views his luck stat as this. He's pretty well balanced in other regards though.
* Fiction500: Sole heir to the Nanjo Group, and mixes in high society.
* GameplayAndStoryIntegration: His personal growth reflects in his Arcanum choices. The Emperor is now one of his best compatibility choices when in the first game; he couldn't even use them.
* HeroesPreferSwords: A broadsword to be exact. It reflects his status as a veteran.
* IGaveMyWord
* LightEmUp: Both his Personae have Hama or a variant of thereof.
* MrExposition: He is the one who reveals [[spoiler:that Kandori is alive]].
* OptionalPartyMember: In ''Eternal Punishment''. If the player spreads the rumor that the person with information on the NWO is a man, you will get Nanjo to join.
* PrincelyYoungMan: Like the previous game, but he drops all of the snobbery that he had in his high school days. According to WordOfGod, Kei deliberately went to St. Hermelin to know and learn from the people he'd be "ruling over" as the head of the Nanjo Group, so to speak, and he shows this mindset in ''Eternal Punishment''. It makes for a nice contrast with [[VideoGame/Persona3 the heiress of the company that split from his own]].
* RansackedRoom: Kei's penthouse is raided by the New World Order while he is away, with his guards' dead bodies littered about.
* TheRuntAtTheEnd: Kei's Ultimate Persona is still his deceased butler, and he's still able to keep up with the gods and archangel his teammates possess.
* ShockAndAwe: Yamaoka's SignatureMove, ''Guardian Hammer''.
* SignatureMove: ''Guardian Hammer''.
* TheSmartGuy: Eriko mentions that she read his dissertation on economics, considering it brilliant.
* StoicSpectacles: A cool-headed guy with glasses on.
* ToBeAMaster: He continues his quest to become the "number 1 man in Japan".
* TookALevelInKindness: In the previous game, Kei not only berates his friends often, he is also the one who suggests taking the sadistic choices. Since then, he seems to mellow out and smiles more often.
* WesternZodiac: Libra.

Eriko is a former playable character from ''Revelations: Persona''. In ''Innocent Sin'', she is a supporting character, and has succeeded in getting into the modeling business. After Tatsuya Suou uncovers the "Oracle of Maia", Yukino decides to look for Eriko's aid to [[RiddleMeThis unpuzzle the metaphor]] behind the poem. Unless certain conditions are met, she will fight alongside her former classmates from St. Hermelin once more to repel the invasion of Sumaru City by Hitler's Last Battalion, assisting Tatsuya's party so they can go to Xibalba.

In ''Eternal Punishment'', Eriko is a playable character. Sneak mentions that there are two people (a man and a woman) investigating the New World Order. If Maya spreads the rumor that the person with information on the NWO is a woman, you will get Eriko to join. She still uses fencing swords, and will immediately establish rapport with Ulala Serizawa, who shares her love of fortune telling and ghost stories. Once again, her initial Persona is [[BlowYouAway Nike]] of the Judgement Arcana; however, instead of Michael, her Ultimate Persona is Gabriel instead.

Eriko will take the group to the Sumaru TV station to investigate if Chizuru Ishigami (also known as "Wang Long Chizuru") is really involved in the New World Order. Their suspicions were confirmed as Chizuru's shikigami (who was disguised as a cat) traps them with a spell called "Kimon Tonkou", taking them to a reverse dimension. With her knowledge of the occult, Eriko concludes that they would have to find and enter the "Ba Gua" gates located on each the studio entrances in order to escape. Eriko enlists the help of TV host and former classmate Hidehiko Uesugi to find the right order of the Ba Gua gates by scouting them out back in the real world. Inside the reverse dimension, however, a stalker of Eriko lies in wait, taking the rare chance to get close to his idol.

Eriko will rejoin the rest of her former classmates later in the game (with Tatsuya taking her place in Maya's party), fighting off the New World Order soldiers that are trying to take over the city.
----
* ActorAllusion: She is modelled after Japanese model and actress, Sayoko Yamaguchi.
* AnIcePerson: Her SignatureMove, ''Release Jail''.
* ApologeticAttacker: Attacking... Winning a battle... ESCAPING a battle.
* BadassBookworm: Her otaku level knowledge of the occult makes her a rather effective party member. So long as it's done by the knowledge she has beforehand. As evidenced in Sumaru TV: Once a twist on a spell is utilized, she can get stumped easily.
* BerserkButton: [[spoiler:Disguising yourself as her stalker is one thing, but disguising as the boy she's in love with? UNFORGIVABLE!]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She is a nice and ditzy girl, but once her BerserkButton is pressed, she absolutely ''loses'' it.
* ButNotTooForeign: In a similar way to [[VideoGame/Persona5 Ann Takamaki]] after her, Eriko is revealed to actually be quarter American (presumably Caucasian American) via WordOfGod.
* CanNotSpitItOut: When she last saw the protagonist of the first game, she failed to confess her feelings for him and has regretted it ever since.
* ComicBookFantasyCasting: Eriko's design is modelled after Sayoko Yamaguchi, a model and actress who made her career in Paris, something that Eriko aspires to do as well.
* CulturedBadass: Like Kei, she is rather well off financially and a well groomed and refined model.
* DistractedByTheSexy: She pretty much ''seduces'' demons for her Contact options this time ([[VideoGame/{{Persona1}} beforehand]], she never did), and can drag Ulala and Maya into it as well.
* DudeMagnet: Thanks to her looks and her career as a model, she has gained many admirers. This also has a unfortunate side, as can be seen with her stalker.
* FortuneTeller: She and Ulala share a Contact option.
* FreakOut: Endures a string of these in a row while inside the TV studio. Then again, [[spoiler:having to deal with a stalker armed with a chainsaw you swore you did away with would cause that.]]
* GeniusDitz: She's a smart girl, but has moments that make her seem rather...questionable...
* GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak: She's an elegant young lady who loves fashion and wants to be model but she's also a huge NightmareFetishist.
* HeartbrokenBadass: [[spoiler:She still loves the protagonist of the first game, and this even causes her some angst in a plot-relevant scene.]]
* LadyOfWar: Poises herself with utmost grace and dignity with her Persona and rapier in tow.
* LightEmUp: Both her Personas have Light spells.
* LoveTriangle: Both she and Maki have feelings for the protagonist of the first game, which they both seem aware of. Despite this, they still try to encourage each other to act upon their feelings, as seen in Eriko's flashback. This can especially be seen when they are both waiting for his return at the end of ''Eternal Punishment''.
* MakingASplash: Gabriel can learn Aquadyne.
* NightmareFetishist: She's a thrill-seeker. When she and the others are [[ColourCodedTimeStop frozen in time]], her immediate reaction is that of wonderment at a new experience.
* NiceGirl: One of the nicest character from the previous game.
* NonIdleRich
* NotSoDifferentRemark: [[spoiler:The stalker claims this; viewing how she loves the protagonist while never admitting or doing anything about it (therefore admiring him in his shadow) is not much different than what he was doing to her. With the sole differences being how open he is about his ''love'' for her and the damn chainsaw he's swinging about; he's not far off.]]
* OccultDetective: Eriko moonlights as this.
* OptionalPartyMember: In ''Eternal Punishment''. If the player spreads the rumor that the person with information on the NWO is a woman, you will get Eriko to join.
* PerpetualSmiler: Always seen with a smile on her face.
* RoyalRapier: Her signature weapon.
* SignatureMove: ''Release Jail''. Actually a mistranslation; it's supposed to be "Release Veil".
* StepfordSmiler: By all accounts. Fujii and Yuki both note that her smiles are either forced or fake. [[spoiler:This is because deep down she regrets not confessing her love to the ''Persona 1'' protagonist during their last meeting]].
* WeaksauceWeakness: Nike is weak to virtually every type of spell you can get hit with in the first dungeon you get Eriko in, so it's best to switch out that persona immediately.
* WesternZodiac: Virgo.
* YouDontLookLikeYou: Unlike Kei whose Initial Persona is just a more detailed version of how it looked in the previous game, Eriko's Nike has been completely redesigned, shedding the traditional angelic look for a cyborg airplane design that according to the writer, is intended to symbolize her father's status as a pilot.
