!!Team Summer B
[[folder:General]]
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: Compared to the other teams, they're decidedly more dysfunctional and "normal."
* RecruitTeenagersWithAttitude: The basic idea behind the team in the first place, especially if Team Summer A failed.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Natsu Iwashimizu]]
!!Natsu Iwashimizu
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/NaoTouyama (Japanese), Creator/JadSaxton (English)
[[quoteright:145:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/natsu_iwashimizu_anime.png]]

A painfully shy and insecure sixteen-year-old girl who used to get bullied at school before she awoke in the post-apocalyptic world. In her old life, her pet cat "Macadamia Nuts" was her only friend.
----
* AbusiveParents: Natsu's grandmother was verbally and physically abusive towards her, often degrading Natsu, calling her useless or dumb and had no problem 'raising her hand against her'.
* ApologizesALot: She constantly bows and apologizes, even over minor things or if it isn't her fault at all.
* BullyAndWimpPairing: With Semimaru, even after they become friends. He constantly pulls her hair, plays mean pranks on her and insults her.
* CharacterDevelopment: In extremely slow steps, she's learning to think for herself and be more confident. Tends to happen [[ExtremeDoormat when others aren't around]] [[FriendlessBackground and she's not too flustered to think.]]
* DoggedNiceGirl: To Arashi. She is deeply in love with him and keeps hoping that he might return her feelings, even if she never says it aloud.
* ExtremeDoormat: She can't stand up for herself at all and is quick to apologize for things that aren't her fault. Very frequently, she also says what she thinks others want to hear, rather than her true opinion.
* FriendlessBackground: In the few flashbacks we see of her past life, she has stopped going to school because she's being bullied there. Her only friend seems to be the cat Macadamia Nuts.
* GreenEyedMonster: She's jealous of Hana, because she eventually falls in love with her boyfriend Arashi.
* GrewASpine: Started this practice as time went on, becoming much more self-confident and able to do things without needing someone's 'permission'. She even stands up to Ango, who tells her [[AngerBornOfWorry that she shouldn't do anything potentially dangerous]], even if it was the right thing.
* {{Hikkikomori}}: Due to being bullied in school, she stopped going and spent most of her time in her room, barely even interacting with her family.
* ItsAllMyFault: When Arashi is poisoned by the mushrooms she gathered.
* ICantBelieveAGuyLikeYouWouldNoticeMe: Her self-esteem is so low that she can't imagine any guy falling for her, especially after the human population got reduced so drastically.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: When she finds a letter that proves that Hana is still alive, she initially hides it because she doesn't want Arashi to reunite with her. Thanks to Botan, however, she realizes that the mark of true love is selflessness, so she returns the letter and starts supporting Arashi's relationship with Hana, even if it means abandoning any chance of ever being with him.
* KindHeartedCatLover: She has a beloved pet cat and also admits that she hates Robinson Cruso because he drowned kittens at one point in the novel.
* NoPeriodsPeriod: Averted. During the Minor Heat arc, she gets her period. It even becomes plot-relevant, when iron eating bacteria start chasing her because of her blood.
* ObliviousToLove: She doesn't realize that Semimaru falls for her until he pretty much tells her. Justified, since she has some problems with social behavior and difficulty reading people.
* PunnyName: Her name is ''Natsu'' and she named her cat Macadamia ''Nuts''... [[DontExplainTheJoke Nuts in Japanese are pronounced Natsu]]...
* ShrinkingViolet: Painfully shy, insecure, unable to stand up for herself and very withdrawn describes her perfectly.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan:
** She falls for Arashi because he was the first guy who was nice to her.
** Again with [[spoiler: Ango]], who [[BigBrotherMentor takes her under his wing.]]
* StepfordSmiler: She frequently hides her dislike for others or takes their abuse because she is too afraid of standing up to them and also frequently thinks that she will be disliked for expressing negative emotions.
* TheNicknamer: She's good with thinking up names for new plants, animals etc.
* TookALevelInBadass: While she certainly isn't there yet to be called a badass, Natsu has improved to the point that having the guts to use an ancient, rickety crane makes her seem pretty cool.

[[folder:Arashi Aota]]
!!Arashi Aota
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/JunFukuyama (Japanese), Creator/AlejandroSaab (English)
[[quoteright:165:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/arashi_aota_anime.png]]

A kind and considerate seventeen-year-old who protects Natsu from Semimaru's bullying. The most important person in his life is his girlfriend Hana and he hopes to find her alive in the post-apocalyptic world. He's an excellent swimmer.
----
* AbsenceMakesTheHeartGoYonder: Averted. Although he and Hana have been separated for the entire series, he remains devoted to her.
* AlliterativeName: ''A''rashi ''A''ota
* BerserkButton: He'd do anything to protect Hana.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Stabbed a guy who attacked Hanna with a knife and beat up the rest of his gang.
* BigBrotherMentor: To Natsu. He gently encourages her with praise and successfully draws her out of her shell.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: He has known his girlfriend Hana since they were ten years old.
* CrazyJealousGuy: In the first arc he claims that he has become quite the jealous guy ever since he got together with Hana.
* DespairEventHorizon: When he becomes convinced that Hana is most likely dead.
* FerrisWheelDateMoment: One of his flashbacks shows that he and Hana rode a ferris wheel during their first date.
* HappilyFailedSuicide: Once he gains evidence that Hana is alive, he's happy that he didn't kill himself.
* InterruptedSuicide: Tried to drown when he thought Hana was dead, but was saved by Aramaki's dogs.
* IWillFindYou: Towards Hana. After finding out that she's also still alive, reuniting with her becomes his main goal in life.
* MissingMom: His mother died some years before he was cryogenically frozen.
* NiceGuy: He is kind, trusting and forgiving to a fault. Unless you find his BerserkButton.
* ObliviousToLove: He never notices that Natsu has feelings for him.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Sensitive guy towards Semimaru's manly man. Arashi is sweet, gentle, forgiving and wants to see the good in everyone, while Semimaru is abrasive, cynical and frequently a big jerk.
* ShipperOnDeck: It's later on implied that he wouldn't mind it if Natsu and Semimaru became a couple.
* UniformityException: Out of the Team Summer B Of Failures, Arashi seems to be the most well-intergrated into society and the last person you'd call a failure, so his inclusion into the Failure Team seems strange. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]], as he only got into the project because he's Hana's boyfriend.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: During a brief period where he ends up lost at sea after diving, he spend several chapters without a shirt.
* WeaksauceWeakness: He is deathly afraid of bugs.

[[folder:Semimaru Asai]]
!!Semimaru Asai
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KatsuyukiKonishi (Japanese), Creator/ScottGibbs (English)
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/semimaru_asai_anime.png]]

A rude and selfish eighteen-year-old deliquent with a bad homelife. He loves to pick on Natsu.
----
* AngerBornOfWorry: In the Minor Heat arc, Arashi gets separated from the group and they fear that he might be dead. As soon as he reunites with them, Semimaru proceeds to beat him up while yelling how worried he made them. Semimaru's first words towards Natsu after he meets her again are also angry scolding for getting separated from the group.
* BookDumb: He doesn't even know what Photosynthesis is.
* DisappearedDad: Never knew his father. Semimaru is pissed at his mom for never telling him, even after he became part of the project.
* DontYouDarePityMe: When he suspects that Arashi and Natsu might pity him for mourning his mother's death, he gets incredibly angry.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: Let's see… Hibari, Chimaki, Arashi, Hotaru and most recently Matsuri have all demonstrated in various ways that they're aware of Semimaru's feelings for Natsu.
* FieryRedHead: He has red hair and is easily angered, and even besides that, loud emotional outbursts are his usual way of communicating.
* GenkiGuy: While he does have his quieter moments, most of the time, he is very upbeat, talkative and energetic.
* GreenEyedMonster: Once he notices that Natsu has a crush on [[spoiler: [[AloofBigBrother Ango]]]] he gets angry whenever he gets protective of Natsu or keeps her close to him.
* HiddenDepths: Over time. Who knew the guy could cook or could be a StealthMentor big bro? He also shows himself suprsingly knowledgeable about people and ends up saying some very insightful things about human nature in general.
* HotBlooded: Among Team Summer B, he is easily the most temperamental member.
* HypocriticalHeartwarming: He is very mean to Natsu, but he won't allow others to treat her the same way.
* InelegantBlubbering: After Ryo saved Semimaru from death and yelled at him for being so careless with things, Semimaru is practically curled up on the floor, hiding his face and crying like a baby, with 'I'm sorry' being the only audible thing you can understand.
* JapaneseDelinquents: He admits to stealing, drinking and smoking, despite being underage.
* LovingBully: Towards Natsu. At first, he bullies her because she is an easy target, but later on, he does it both to cover up his feelings for her and to toughen her up.
* NoIndoorVoice: Loudly talking or outright shouting is his "normal" way of talking.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: Even if he has just met someone, he is quick to touch him/her, especially by putting his arm around him/her.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Manly man to Arashi's sensitive guy. Arashi is sweet, gentle, forgiving and wants to see the good in everyone, while Semimaru is abrasive, cynical and frequently a big jerk.
* StealthMentor: At times to Natsu. As a LovingBully, of course.
* SonOfAWhore: Semimaru's mother was a prostitute, which led to him being bullied by his peers.
* SupremeChef: During his stay in the future, he tries to pay a tribute to his dead mother by cooking the stew she would sometimes make him. This leads him towards discovering his passion for cooking.
* TookALevelInKindness: He starts out as rude, abrasive and even abusive and threatening to almost everyone. However, once he notices that his behavior has only led to others disliking and avoiding him, he eases up on that. When he comes to care about Arashi and Natsu, he becomes increasingly affectionate and protective towards them, and is mostly mean in playful ways.
* {{Tsundere}}: Initially type A towards both Arashi and Natsu, but he later becomes type B towards Arashi. In the beginning, he is very abrasive and rude towards both of them, but as Arashi gains his trust and respect, Semimaru becomes very affectionate and laid-back around him, and only occasionally beats him up when Arashi really angers him. Meanwhile, as Semimaru starts falling for Natsu, his bullying gradually becomes a defensive mechanism - unwilling to face his attraction to her, he ruins any tender moment between them by picking on her.
* WeaksauceWeakness: He fears bugs, and to a lesser extent dogs. He also seems to ''hate'' Darkness.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Botan Saotome]]
!!Botan Saotome
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YokoSoumi (Japanese), Creator/MorganBerry (English)

She's the guide of Team Summer B and has an outspoken and confident personality. In the past she was a policewoman.
----
* AnimeHair: When first introduced, she has the most unusual hairstyle of the series, involving several narrow braids, some of which stick up rather improbably.
* BabiesEverAfter: Discussed. After seeing her largely naked body while she was bathing at a waterfall, Semimaru asks to have sex with her. To his surprise, she says she's fine with it, but then asks him if he's ready to be a father. She then tells the other ladies to consider that they'd be bringing a child to a largely CrapsackWorld, and hints at how difficult it'd be to raise a child. Semimaru immediately loses interest after she says all those things.
* BadassInDistress: When she gets stuck in that cave together with the some other members of Summer B.
* BraidsOfAction: Her hairstyle changes later on, but at the start of the manga, she has multiple braids.
* BrokenBird: Had a miscarriage because she was involved in a car crash and as a result, her marriage crumbled.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: She has a pretty impressive bust size and likely the biggest one out of all the girls in the teams. Semimaru certainly is attracted to Botan, especially because of her bust size.
* CoolBigSis: Even her profile in the manga calls her that.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: In flashbacks of her time as a police officer, wears a PrimAndProperBun. When she's first introduced as the rather intimidating guide of Team Summer B, she wears the style described above under AnimeHair. And later, when the team members know her well enough to see her as a CoolBigSis, she wears a softer raised ponytail style.
* FairCop: She used to be a policewoman before she joined the 7 Seeds project.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: Even though her former husband later married another woman, she still wished him happiness.
* LustObject: For Semimaru. He is incredibly attracted towards her and even once asks her to sleep with him.
* TheTease: Reveals this side of herself much later in the story. She has no problem being naked in front of others and once even purposefully undresses to distract Ango.

A cheerful sixteen-year-old girl who ran away from home.
----
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Semimaru. They're both loud, upbeat, chatty, emotional, smarter than they appear... Naturally, they get on like a house on fire and spend a lot of time together.
* DoggedNiceGirl: Towards Ryo. She always compliments him, holds his arm or tries to be alone with him in hopes of winning him over.
* FriendlessBackground: Before she came to the future, she had no real friends because no one took her seriously.
* GenkiGirl: Her sadness never lasts long and she is quickly back to her usual cheerfulness.
* HiddenDepths: Though she appears to many shallow and stupid, she is actually very observant, smart and good at reading people.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: When her confession to Ryo doesn't play out how she thought, she realizes that she just wants a 'normal' relationship, including going to amusement parks, cafés and similar.
* PluckyGirl: She is very upbeat and is incapable of being depressed for a very long time.
* TheRunaway: She came from a farm but ran away from home because she found living on a farm boring and just wanted to have fun.
* ShipperOnDeck: She thinks that Ango has feelings for Natsu and encourages her to make a move on him.

An excentric artist who paints at every opportunity.
----
* DeadpanSnarker: The few times he does tell a joke, it's generally with a straight face.
* DissonantSerenity: No matter what happens, he is always eerily calm.
* ThePigPen: It's implied that he doesn't pay a whole lot of attention to his personal hygiene, more focused on his painting, and only cleans himself every other day or so.
* TheQuietOne: He doesn't spend a lot of time talking with his teammates, preferring to spend his time mixing paints, or drawing on any available surface.
* TheSmartGuy: He doesn't talk a whole lot, but he is very observant and was the one to come up with an idea on how to free their ship from clingy algea that was keeping it stationary.

[[folder:Hotaru Kusakari]]

A sweet little girl who used to work at a temple as a seer.
----
* BlushSticker: Has them permanently on her face.
* CheerfulChild: Quiet, but always smiling and friendly.
* FortuneTeller: She worked as one before she was sent to the future.
* WaifProphet: She fits this quiet well since she is a young, small girl who can predict the future.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Mozu]]
!!Kaname Mozumoto
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KazuhikoInoue (Japanese), Creator/DavidWald (English)

A mysterious person who keeps his distance from the rest of Team Summer B and periodically disappears from the group.
----
* BigBrotherMentor: Especially towards Ango: "He doesn't come across as a teacher, but as someone who looks after us..." (...) "I have a feeling that he favors me a little."
* DarkAndTroubledPast: According to his own words, he saw his parents forced to commit suicide in front of him, was kidnapped for ransom, then abandoned in a mountain area before making it back to civilization after two weeks on his own.
* MeaningfulName: "Butcher-bird." Besides his role as the "death god", he was also involved in the deaths of the many failed candidates for Team Summer A.
* PetTheDog: Even though it was against the rules, he kept quiet about Ango secretly training Shigeru and even prepared food for their trip.
* OddlyVisibleEyebrows: His eyes and eyebrows are briefly visible ''through his baseball cap visor'' at one point.
* OddNameOut: His name does not contain a summer reference, unlike the rest of the team.
* TheQuietOne: Does not engage in casual conversation.
* ScaryShinyGlasses: Often depicted like this, particularly during the Hail Of Corn chapters.
* {{Shinigami}}: Not literally, but he references the concept by calling himself "the death god".

!!Team Spring
[[folder:Hana Sugurono]]
!!Hana Sugurono
!!! '''Voiced by''': Creator/YokoHikasa (Japanese), Creator/AmberLeeConnors (English)
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_chara2_01_01.png]]

She's very outspoken and won't turn a blind eye to any injustice. Arashi is her boyfriend.
----
* AbsenceMakesTheHeartGoYonder: Unlike Arashi, while she is devoted to him, Hana did have moments of attraction to Aramaki.
* TheAce: Until Team Summer A shows up, she has the best survival skills in the cast. Even after, she's probably the best prepared to live in the new world.
* ActionGirl: She's a very fast runner, loves climbing and has defeated dangerous animals occasionally, too.
* AttemptedRape: Almost got raped twice. Once by Yanagi, saved by a thunderstorm breaking out before anything can happen, and once by Ango, where Ayu comes in and interrupts.
* BattleBoomerang: Her boomerang, although she uses it for hunting (and once to send a message) rather than for fighting other people.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: With Arashi. They have known each other since they were ten years old.
* CoolPeopleRebelAgainstAuthority: She ''hates'' getting ordered around. And, of course, it has gotten her into trouble at times, with her team's guide Yanagi and Ango as examples.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: On the covers, her hair and eyes are the same light golden brown color.
* DudeMagnet: Haru, Aramaki and Arashi are all in love with her. Though Haru and Aramaki both move on eventually.
* DisneyDeath: Gets sucked into an ice-cold whirlpool and seemingly drowns, though she is eventually revealed to have survived.
* EasyAmnesia: Hana can't remember how she came to be on the island after she was sucked into a whirlpool and presumed dead, but recalls how and why a few chapters later, no worse for wear.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: Starts off with hair down to her waist and eventually cuts it into a tomboyish short hairdo. The in-universe reason being that it became too dry and full of split ends due to lack of regular care. It is beginning to grow out again, though.
* FriendlessBackground: Before coming to the future, she had no friends other than her boyfriend Arashi.
* ImagineSpot: After hearing Hotaru's rather ...biased description of Natsu, Hana imagines a silhouette version of Natsu that resembles the real girl only in having the same haircut.
* InformedLoner: Hana says she's always been a loner and has had difficulty making friends. [[SarcasmMode Easy to see, what with everyone in her Team liking her, several people in the other Teams liking her, at least two guys having fallen for her]] ''[[SarcasmMode and]]'' [[SarcasmMode Hana having been shown frequently to hang around Fujiko and Chisa before and after the Team was split]].
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: While this is true of most of the characters, who weren't told about the Seven Seeds Project until they woke up from cryostasis, Hana was also kept in the dark about her parents' roles.
* MoralityPet: To her father, and to a lesser extent, also to Kaname Mozunoto.
* NoOneCouldSurviveThat: Was dragged by a current and sucked into the icy depths of a whirlpool and spent a good day or two, maybe three, ''under water and likely unconscious'' and yet survives being submerged for so long, in no worse of a condition than having lost her shoes!
* OrphansPlotTrinket: She wears a cross-necklace and her mother wears one, too. Finding the other necklace in the Ryugu Shelter is one hint that she was there. When Hana learns that it really ''was'' her parents in the shelter, she begins wearing both of them.
* SinsOfOurFathers: When Ango learns just who exactly her parents were.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: She looks ''a lot'' like her mother.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Tomboy to Kurumi's (of Team Autumn) Girly Girl, once they become friends.

----
* ElegantClassicalMusician: He is an aloof pretty boy who plays the piano.
* HandshakeRefusal: He doesn't shake people's hands nor does he do a whole lot of work with his hands. Justified, he's a pianist and sensitive about his hands getting damaged, even wearing gloves unless he's making music.
* SleepCute: With Koruri during the Summer Solstice arc. Haru holds her in his arms to comfort her and they fall asleep in this position.

* ClothingDamage: Later on, her shirt gets damaged and tattered to the point that she cut it shorter and it reveals her midriff. [[ExposedToTheElements Hana calls her out on it being a reason why she feels terrible at one point]].
* GamerChick: She mentions that she likes playing video games in her spare time.
* ImagineSpot: Wonders what Ban looks like.
* TheMedic: She was training to become a doctor before being chosen for the project.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: Admits that she originally planned to be a doctor ''and'' an astronaut, but medicine won her over.
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: When Hana asks her if she is interested in Tsunomata she denies it and says that their outlook on life is too different.
* ShipperOnDeck: Yes, Fujiko understands that Hana has a boyfriend and is trying to find him, but during the Mountain/Ocean arc she seems pretty set on having Hana and Aramaki spend time together, preferably alone.

* BlushSticker: Has them sometimes, especially when he's happy.
* ChildProdigy: He's a math genius.
* CryIntoChest: To Haru, after being told that Hana is dead.
* IdenticalStranger: When Ango first sees him, he mistakes him for a young Shigeru for a second.
* InSeriesNickname: He gets called "Nobita". He initially dislikes it but grows to accept it.
* TestedOnHumans: When he gets picked up by Team Summer A, Ayu uses him, without his knowledge, as a type of guinea pig to test out the unfamiliar plants to see which ones are edible. [[ThousandYardStare He doesn't take it well when he learns the truth]].

----
* AwesomeAnachronisticApparel: He wears a largely intact kimono that would look more fitting for Edo-era Japan.
* HorseArcher: He reveals that he did take horseback archery prior to being frozen.
* LastNameBasis: Most people only refer to him by his last name. Except for Hibari, who takes to nicknaming him Tsunocchi.
* LikesOlderWomen: He mentions once that he prefers older, "real" women and is intrigued to learn that Team Summer B's guide is an older woman that he might like.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: [[spoiler:He was never made aware of the fact that his mother was part of the Sado team, especially not with her being the second-in-command of the secret The Ark Project. When he finds out via the videos in the ''Mountain & Ocean'' arc, he's stunned into silence.]]
* SeriouslyScruffy: Just like majority of the cast, but Tsunomata grows heavy stubble over his face when he re-appears after [[PutOnABus a long time being off-screen]]. He does shave some of it off eventually.

* BlushStickers: She sports them sometimes, but not as often as Hotaru.
* TheLoad: Early on when she's ''asleep'' and therefore can't exactly contribute anything to the team.
* {{Ojou}}: She comes from the main branch of a ''very'' wealthy family who backed the project, and is accustomed to being treated with respect and deference. At one point, Mozu even refers to her as a princess.
* PsychicLink: To Hotaru.
* SpoiledBrat: Despite the dire situation, she still expects others to cater to her wishes.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: To Hotaru. They're only distantly related, but look very similar.

----
* ArrangedMarriage: Her grandfather arranged a marriage between her and a protege of his Akio Haza of Team Autumn. Chisa has shown no inclination to go through with it, and her only reaction to learning that Akio is among the survivors is an exasperated "That man!" directed at her grandfather.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Threatens to rip "it" off once Hana tells her about Ango's rape attempt.
* CallingTheOldManOut: When Yanagi tells Chisa to throw [[TheLoad Hibari]] to some hungry mantises so the rest of the group can escape, Chisa [[TranquilFury calmly]] tells him that she respects men who lead and take actions, gladly serving them as she was brought up that way, but that she isn't ''stupid'' and that his idea is repulsive.
* EyesAlwaysShut: She does open her eyes more often than characters generally associated with this trope, but she is often depicted with her eyes calmly shut, to play up her SilkHidingSteel and calm personality.
* FeminineWomenCanCook: A polite, non-confrontational woman who takes it on herself to be the TeamChef.
* NaginatasAreFeminine: Admits that she is somewhat skilled in the usage of a naginata.
* {{Ojou}}: And her family provided a lot of the funding for the project, possibly in exchange for her inclusion.
* PrimAndProperBun: Her hair is usually up in this.
* ShipperOnDeck: Similar to Fujiko, she goes along with her plan to have Hana and Aramaki hopefully get closer to each other, despite Hana being in a relationship.
* SilkHidingSteel: She's very ladylike and polite, but she's also unshaken in the face of disaster and fiercely protective of her friends.
* TeamChef: Even after someone dies horribly right in front of them, Team Spring ''will'' have something to eat.
* TeamMom: She's very feminine and good at cooking and takes care of the other team members.
* TranquilFury: When she ''does'' get angry about something, you cannot tell through her expression, but her mannerism definitely means you should ''watch out''.
* WiseBeyondHerYears: She is very mature, making it hard to believe that she's only ''eighteen'' years old.
* YamatoNadeshiko: She was raised to be one and is indeed quiet, demure and feminine.

The guide of Team Spring. He used to work for the Japanese Self-Defense Force before that and is very authoritarian and sexist.
----
* AssholeVictim: Before his death, he lords it over his team and treats everyone very badly.
* AttemptedRape: He blames Hana for getting bitten by a Mantis and tries this on her, but thankfully a storm interrupts him.
* GlorySeeker: He became a guide in the 7 project because he wanted to be a hero.
* HateSink: He's shown to be a pretty despicable character with the way he treats everyone, though he does subvert this by sacrificing himself to save the others.
* HeroicSacrifice: Sets himself on fire so that Team Spring can escape from the mantises.
* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain / HeManWomanHater: He's a misogynist, so yeah.
* PuppeteerParasite: The mantis which stung him laid its eggs in his body and eventually the hatchlings started to control him.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: He's a sexist and authoritarian jerk, but in the end, he uses his last moments of reason to save Team Spring by setting himself on fire.
* SacrificialLamb: He's the first character to die in the series.
* StayInTheKitchen: In his opinion, women should quietly obey men.

!!Team Summer A '''Spoilers!'''
[[folder:General]]

* AllLoveIsUnrequited: Ryo has a crush on Koruri, who has a crush on Ango, who likes Ayu, who ''might'' like him, though she also shows signs of liking Aramaki later on. Koruri eventually moves on from Ango.
* TheBeautifulElite: All of them (yes, even Ban) are rather attractive and pleasing to the eye. Justified, see DesignerBabies.
* DesignerBabies: None of them have any real parents, they were all created by picking sperm and eggs to be superior in reflexes, skills and looks from birth onward.
* DidTheyOrDidntThey: Everyone assumes Ryo and Nijiko are a couple and were intimate. When Ango flat out asks Ryo if they did, he admits they tried but it hurt Nijiko so much that she made him stop by hitting him. And haven't tried since. [[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend They're also not really a couple]].
* HarmfulToMinors: Their upbringing wasn't exactly pleasant, especially for the ones who realized that those who "left" the program were actually being killed- but the Final Test (when they were seventeen) was horrific.
* ObliviousToLove: They have varying degrees of not getting love or liking someone in a special way. Teaching that was not a priority in their upbringing.
* OnlyOneName: None of them has a surname.

----
* TheAce: Usually took first place, alongside Ryo, in every test in the institute and was a good friend. He was also the unspoken, designated leader of Team Summer A.
* TheAtoner: He wants to make up for Shigeru's death by protecting Natsu.
* AttemptedRape: Tries this on Hana.
* BigBrotherInstinct: He spends most of his childhood looking out for Shigeru, and eventually starts doing the same for Natsu.
* BigBrotherMentor: First for Shigeru and then Natsu.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Ryo. They used to be at odds with each other and Ango is more emotional, but their way of thinking and manner is pretty similar later on in the series.
* BrokenAce: Post-Final Test, his skills and resources are still handy, but he's become bitter, hateful and very easy to anger, he even disappoints Kaname, who says he failed as the leader. He seems to be slowly getting some of his old Ace-self back, though.
* ChickMagnet: Let's see... Over the course of the manga Koruri, Ayu and Natsu all fall for him at some point.
* ControlFreak: Though he does get better, he initially tries to micromanage the actions of everyone he views as lesser than himself.
* CynicismCatalyst: Shigeru's death has a big effect on him, and not for the better.
* DiseaseBleach: About half of his hair turns white after the Final Test and Shigeru's death.
* TheExile: As punishment for their crimes, he and Ryo are given the choice between exile from the Spring/Autumn/Summer A group and lifetime penal servitude. They choose the former... and are surprised when the rest of Summer A declines to come with them.
* GoMadFromTheRevelation: When he is set up and punished by spending hours in the vat of blood, animal innards and pieces of the dropped out students, he spends the next few hours screaming in terror. ''Something'' inside him snapped during this moment and made him much more serious and broken.
* HeroicBSOD: After released from the vat, he definitely has this expression on his face.
* ILetGwenStacyDie: He blames himself for Shigeru's death.
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: [[spoiler:After he performs AttemptedRape on Hana]] and comes back on his senses, Ryo just never stops reminding Ango about it.
* ReplacementGoldfish: Natsu is this for him since she reminds him so much of Shigeru.
* RevengeByProxy: With Hana as the proxy for her long-dead father, Takashi.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Before he got broken, he was very kind-hearted and protective, but after...

* TheBully: When he was a child, he picked on Shigeru because he knew that it would make Ango angry.
* ChickMagnet: He and Nijiko had a relationship of sorts, and Matsuri develops a crush on him.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Shows a softer side to Ango, Matsuri and to a lesser extent towards Semimaru.
* MeaningfulName: "Ryo" means "cool".
* NotSoStoic: When he ''does'' snap at someone, it's actually quite frightening - he's surprised himself.
* TheExile: Along with Ango, he's exiled from the Spring/Autumn/Winter village- in his case, for trying to murder two people.
* TheRival: During their childhood at the institute, he and Ango fight for the top rank all the time, especially when they end up taking the same special classes.
* TheStoic: 90 percent of the time, his face is an impassive mask which betrays nothing of his feelings and thoughts, and even if he expression does change, it is usually pretty subtle.
* ThroughHisStomach: It's implied he has a crush on Koruri because she always gave him large helpings when she was on kitchen duty.
* TroubledButCute: As a child he constantly broke the rules at the institute and as an adult, he does not hesitate to achieve his goals with murder and yet, he's still quiet popular with the ladies in-universe.

----

* ACupAngst: Her small breast size is a weak point for her and something she was bullied by Unami for. It's implied that the drugs the Summer A candidates were all given caused Koruri to go through puberty later than most of the other girls.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She's one of the nicer Summer A members, but she's also the first to draw a gun on Unami when her team wakes up in the future.
* BreakTheCutie: She's a nice, cheerful, generally well-liked kid. Then come the Final Test, Mayu's death, and finally learning of Nobara's... She's the first to draw a gun on Unami when the team wakes up in the future.
* CordonBleughChef: Ango thinks that the food she cooks is always too salty and the bread she bakes too hard.
* GenkiGirl: As a child, she was upbeat and cheerful most of the time, but after the traumatic events of the final test she becomes quiet and withdrawn.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Before the Final Test, she fit very well indeed: blonde, sweet, and innocent.
* HopelessSuitor: Towards Ango. She had feelings for him, but he fell in love with Ayu instead.
* OlderThanSheLooks: She's seventeen, like the rest of her teammates; however, she looks younger, to the point where Haru is shocked to find out her real age.
* {{Revenge}}: Wants to kill Unami and the other teachers for causing Mayu's death.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: ''Tried'' to pull one off after Mayu's death. She started smashing and chopping a ship's interior up, before Unami confronts her. Koruri tried to go after him with an axe, but she was quickly knocked out.
* TragicKeepsake: Mayu and Nobara's friendship bracelets.

* BerserkButton: Rape. "It’s just that... I really... truly... abhor that sort of thing... so much that it makes me want to rip him [Ango] to shreds."
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Debateable if you can actually call her one of the nicer ones of Team Summer A, but she certainly acted very kind and gentle towards Nobita when she was actually using him as a guinea pig to check the edibility of unfamiliar plants.
* BrokenBird: She hates most other people and is distrustful of them. On top of that, she also feels massively guilty for letting her bullies die.
* DarwinistDesire: Ayu wants to "secure" Aramaki as her future mate, since she believes that he is a good specimen and would be able to create strong and superior offspring with her.
* DefrostingIceQueen: In the latest arc. Thanks to meeting Aramaki, she regains her trust in people and reexamines some of her worldviews.
* DissonantSerenity: She remains calm even in horrifying and ridiculous situations. In truth, though, she certainly does feel those things. She just never shows it.
* DoesNotLikeMen: And she has a damn good reason for it.
* HeadPet: Her black dog Kuroda likes to climb onto her head or in front of her face.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Certainly has shades of this. She once said she and Aramaki will form a group, Hana and the two girls will form the second and Tsunomata and Hibari the third group. It isn't until later, when Tsunomata points out to her that her blunt way can be quite off-putting towards other people that she even wonders why it even sounded off-putting to others.
* InSeriesNickname: Generally called Madonna because of her looks.
* MelancholyMoon: An oppressive example, Ayu feeling like the moon was watching when she let her bullies die and she tends to get a little shakey when it's fullmoon.
* MurderByInaction: Her bullies force her to make dinner for them during the Final Test, then refuse to give her chopsticks... which they made out of wood that she recognized as a poisonous species. She explains their mistake only when one of them, dying, accuses her of poisoning them.
* SecurityCling: Towards Ango when she is overwhelmed with guilt.
* SoBeautifulItsACurse: She suffered bullying and sexual harassment growing up because of her good looks.

* LongHairedPrettyBoy: He has long black hair and is quiet handsome, like all of the Team Summer A members.

----
* BystanderSyndrome: Her default attitude, especially during the Final Test.
* EmotionlessGirl: Hardly ever shows emotion, even when half her teammates are experiencing HeroicBSOD; she also wasn't visibly upset when her old ally and sort-of-boyfriend Ryo was exiled from their community. The most she ever shows is an occasional faint smile.
* MyEyesAreLeaking: She's surprised to find herself crying when she sees Ryo and Ango again after the mysterious disappearance of the group she had been traveling with.
* NotSoStoic: When she was attacked by hand-sized ants, she rushed around and, when she got rid of them, was concerned that she lost her head like that. She also shows signs of this when she begins to worry about the others when they disappear during the Mountain/Ocean arc.
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: Many characters assume she is dating Ryo, but when Matsuri first meets her and asks if this is the case, she calmly denies it and says she thinks that Ryo has a crush on ''Koruri''.
* TheStoic: She is probably the most reserved and controlled female character in the whole manga. Even immediately after the final test, she retains her composure to ask some pointed questions.

----
* BadLiar: Ayu asked him to keep her discovery of Nobita a secret, but Ban lied so poorly that Ango knew something was going on.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He's a very nice and shy person, but he can seem quite mean, depending on your view, if you look at the MurderByInaction entry.
* BreakTheCutie: He's a kind person who enrolled in the medical class because he wanted to help others. He's very hard hit when he realizes that his medical training won't allow him to save every injured person.
* EyesOutOfSight: A mass of curly hair covers the upper part of his face, and his eyes have never been shown. This serves to emphasize his shyness.
* HiddenDepths: Comes across as a very slow person who likely can't do a whole lot. But when people are injured, he's in his element and quickly reacts and keeps a calm head.
* InformedAttribute: He's part of Koruri's "saucer-eyes club", but of course, his eyes are never seen.
* MurderByInaction: While he's the only one to not pull a gun on Unami when they awaken in the future, he does let him bleed out slowly because, according to him, his "abilities are limited".
* TheMedic: Was the best in the medical classes, and is now effectively the doctor for the new village. However, he also suffers some {{Angst}} about his abilities- first because of the people he failed to save during the Final Test, and later because he finds out that his medical training is almost two decades out of date.

* AssholeVictim: He has repeatedly sexually harassed Koruri and tormented the students along with the other teachers.
* DyingAlone: The Summer A team members shoot him fatally, then leave him to die alone as they leave the cryonics facility.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: Deconstructed. He tries this on Koruri (and Gengoro and Ango, although he doesn't hit them) after the Final Test, when they're in a state of HeroicBSOD. It's both completely unsuccessful and a KickTheDog moment.
* JerkAss: Physically and sexually abusive, misogynistic and completely lacking in empathy are his most outstanding character traits.
* TooDumbToLive: His behavior on awakening. He starts trying to boss around a group of traumatized seventeen-year-olds with guns, none of whom have any reason to like him... and one of whom threatened to ''kill him'' immediately before cryostasis.

!!Team Autumn
[[folder:General]]
* BrokenPedestal: They've manage to set up a functional community. Although it's quickly shown that this came at the price of reducing much of the team into glorified slaves. And it's also revealed that neither Ran or Akio give a damn about rebuilding Japan.
* MandatoryMotherhood: Inverted. On learning that the teams were not given any contraceptives (implying that the people who set up the project were trying to enforce this trope), the leaders of the team made a ban on any sex that could lead to pregnancy.
* RulingCouple: Akio and Ran. Despite their abusive behavior, all of Team Autumn obeys them.
* TheSocialDarwinist: The ''modus operandi'' of the team is essentially "backbreaking toil or death." Or at least that's what Ran and Akio convinced themselves.
* MeaningfulName: Another word for Autumn is "Fall." Which can just as well refer to how the Team turned out after a few years.

* BrokenBird: Being sent to the future seems to have broken her, she apparently had multiple instances where she contemplated suicide before we meet her and her team.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: Chimaki says Ran is "well-proportioned", though whether he means this as simply her big bust size being a good thing or just seeing it from an artist's point of view is unclear. Her bust size could compete with Botan's.
* ExposedToTheElements: Botan scolds her for wearing sleeveless tops and shorts, exposing her to not just the elements but also making it much easier to injure herself.
* FlippingTheBird: Figuratively to the people behind the 7 Seeds program and Japan as a whole.
* GeniusBruiser: She speaks at least two languages and is a trained architect; she's also one of the toughest characters in the series.
* HotLibrarian: Looks the part when she puts her hair up and her glasses on.
* {{Jerkass}}: Initially, she treats the other members of Team Autumn like slaves and even physically abuses them.
* MsFanservice: Tends to walk around in rather revealing clothes, including a black shirt with a NavelDeepNeckline and even a {{Sarashi}}, though without changing her chest size.
* PetTheDog:
** After she sees the list of inhabitants of a ruined shelter, she makes sure to tell Akane that her parents weren't there (and could have been sent to a shelter that had better luck).

* EmbarrassingFirstName: Dislikes his first name because he thinks it sounds like a girl's.
* GentleGiant: Large and pretty intimidating, he's actually quite nice. Unless he has to step in to protect someone.
* LastNameBasis: Because he dislikes his first name, he's one of the few characters to be addressed by their surname.
* MenDontCry: He was a crybaby as a child and his father scolded him about it, saying it's a sign of weakness.
* TakeAThirdOption: Interrupts Ran and Nijiko's lengthy argument about how to transport water to the settlement by suggesting that maybe they should build a new base closer to the new source of water.

----
* TheAtoner: In his second appearance, he's trying to make up for trying to poison his teammates.
* CyanidePill: Like all the guides. But he's the only one to try to use it.
* ExtremeDoormat: Although he has some more assertive moments in the "Ash" arc, shortly before his death.
* GogglesDoNothing: Implied he's just wearing them to hide his eyes. Later he wears them around his neck, making them even less potentially useful, although it also marks a change in his character.
* HeroicSacrifice: He dies saving Ran's life.
* LovableCoward: He's shown to be a nice guy. But his cowardice and lack of initiative were what led to Team Autumn turning out the way it does.
* MeaningfulName: His name can be read as the ''Night of the waning Moon'' and Ran says it's a perfect description for a spineless man like him.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: He goes from trying to murder his team, to giving his life to save one of them.
* TakingTheBullet: He literally takes a bullet for Ran, throwing himself in front of her when Ango shoots at her.

----
* TheAloner: For fifteen years, he's the only human left who isn't in cryostasis.
* CelebritySurvivor: Even after 15 years, he still retains much from his past as a baseball superstar.
* ChekhovsSkill: His skills as a pitcher come in handy when he's able to disarm someone with a thrown rock.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: His does have some weird ideas every now and then.
* DeadGuyJunior: He names two of his dogs after Fubuki and Mitsuru, although he uses the -san honorific with the latter.
* DoesntLikeGuns: When [[spoiler: Ango aims a gun at him]], Aramaki angrily asks how long he plans to rely on the gun and tells him that keeping on holding it means that he doesn't understand the value of life or human pain and suffering.
* HeroesLoveDogs: It's what kept him from going insane after wandering Japan alone for 15 years.
* IfYouKillHimYouWillBeJustLikeHim: This is his reason for sparing [[spoiler: Ango and Ryo]], although he comes to the conclusion on his own.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: He seemed to have had a crush on Mitsuru, but when he realized she liked Fubuki, he backed off.
* JadeColoredGlasses: Aramaki is still a very kind person, but after losing Fubuki and Mitsuru has definitely caused him to toughen up a bit. Though he tends to only show this side of his in intense moments.
* LastNameBasis: He's generally known by his last name to the members of the other teams, probably because of the age difference.
* LastOfHisKind: He's the ''only'' survivor of Team Winter. And for the first 15 years, he thought himself as one for the human race as well.
* NiceGuy: He is very sweet and supportive, especially towards Hana.
* ThePigPen: While he was wandering on his own with just the dogs as his company, he used any water found during the dry season for drinking and didn't wash himself. Has stopped that practice, though.
* SanitySlippage: Averted, though he was showing some signs of this prior to meeting Hana for the first time. Then again, he's held out well after 15 years of wandering alone.
* SeriouslyScruffy: When he's shown after spending 15 years wandering the earth, his hair is tangly and long and he sports an impressive beard. He shaves the beard off later, though.
* SoleSurvivor: Every other member of Team Winter dies in the arc that introduces them, which turns out to take place about fifteen years before the "present" of the manga.
* StepfordSmiler: He's overall still a very happy and emotional person, but his happy attitude seems more like a mask, until he begins to really warm up when he realizes he isn't the last person on earth.
* SuperDrowningSkills: He can't swim, which is a major disadvantage for him and has caused him problems. Eventually, Ayu teaches him how to swim.
* SurvivorGuilt: With [[spoiler: Hana's presumed death]] in addition to losing Mitsuru and Fubuki years before, he's showing signs of this.
* TragicBromance: With Fubuki. They form an incredibly strong friendship, but eventually, Fubuki dies and leaves him behind together with Mitsuru.

* BelligerentSexualTension: With Mitsuru. They spend some time quarreling before entering a romance.
* DiesWideOpen: A bit difficult to tell with the amount of blood, but his eyes are open when he dies.
* TragicBromance: With Takahiro. Before coming to the future, they had heard of each other but never met; when they met, they quickly became close friends, with Takahiro particularly admiring and relying on Fubuki. Then Fubuki dies, leaving the other two on their own and beginning the tragic end phase of Team Winter's story.

----
* AnnoyingLaugh: Aramaki says the way she laughs with her whole body and mouth wide open is rather... different from what you'd expect from her appearance.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Fubuki. At first they bicker and butt heads constantly, but gradually it becomes clear that they have feelings for each other.
* DoubleStandard: Lampshades it.
-->"Oh! If it's a man it's self-confidence, but if it's a woman it's arrogance, huh? That's a pretty one-sided view of things."
* DrivenToSuicide: After Fubuki's death, she puts on her old costume and dances the same dance that she failed to master before going into cryostasis because she did not understand grief at the time. She does this during a snowstorm, and freezes to death.
* RavenHairIvorySkin: She has the coloring and is considered very beautiful, both by the boys on her team and her admirers in the past.
* YamatoNadeshiko: Definitely seems to look the part, though she is revealed to not be as submissive as one would expect of this type of person.

!!Ryugu Shelter
[[folder:The Ryugu Shelter '''Spoilers!''']]
* DidTheyOrDidntThey: It's all but clear that towards the end, Mark and Maria were a couple in all but name. Although it's also hinted that Mark had sex with her, which he seems to deny in the journal. He mentions when they began sharing a bed, and refuses to elaborate further. Imagery seems to indicate, though, that they did.
* DoesntLikeGuns: The official policy of the shelter seems to be the complete lack (or at least heavily restricted use) of firearms. Which actually becomes a plot point later on, when compared to the manned Fuji ship that ''did'' have a veritable arsenal of weapons...with unfortunate results.
* EverybodysDeadDave: Their deaths reinforce that yes, the five teams are really the only survivors of the apocalypse (at least so far).
* FaceDeathWithDignity: The vast majority of the shelter's inhabitants remained brave and cheerful even after they knew that death was inevitable.
* ForWantOfANail: The annihilation of Ryugu shelter all began with a group of impetous youths who decided to escape by drilling to surface. Unfortunately, it caused a flood that wiped out three quarters of food despite managing to sealed off from Miho's HeroicSacrifice. As a result, the shelter was forced to cull many inhabitants to both reduce food consumption and recycled into [[HumanResources fertilizer and animal feed]]. The latter becoming the source of [[ThePlague Acari X]] after the inhabitants consume the meat from the tainted livestocks.
* ThePlague: Entire shelter populace were wiped out by Acari X
* PosthumousCharacter: Every single one of them is long dead by the time the Teams find the shelter.

A ventriloquist in a small club that gets scouted by Takashi to perform as the opening act to Miki Mari's concert for the Ryugu Shelter's trip's last day. The events of the Ryugu Shelter are mostly told from his point of view.
----
* ApocalypticLog: He wrote down much of what went down in the immediate years after the impact. Right up to his death.
* BookEnds: His story begins and ends with the final words in the journal: "I can't...anymore..." They take on a different meaning by the time it ends however.
* ChekhovsGun: His seemingly light-hearted decision to leave the lights on for the plants saves Hana and the others long after his death.
* ChekhovsSkill: As part of his act, he will occasionally "switch" with his puppet Pete, so that he speaks with Pete's voice and mannerisms and the puppet seems to speak with his. Later on, when the Acari X try to prevent him from killing himself, he does this again so that "Pete" can go through with it.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: No, talking as if his puppet is alive isn't entirely part of the act.
* ConsummateLiar: Takashi chose him to be one of the shelter's entertainers because he felt Mark was the best liar, and would be able to keep performing until the end... even for people he knows are about to be murdered so that the rest have a chance at survival.
* CreepyDoll: There's nothing actually weird about Pete, but his appearance can be a bit... unsettling with his half-closed eyes.
* CuteLittleFangs: Usually depicted with one on his right side.
* ICantBelieveAGuyLikeYouWouldNoticeMe: He's positively shocked when Maria begins advances on him. And even more surprised to hear that comedians are apparently ''really'' popular with idol singers, with many being married.
* LastOfHisKind: He's the last one of the shelter's inhabitants to die.
* TheMasquerade: Agrees to help maintain it after he finds out.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: When that smile slips, it's important.
* PerpetualSmiler: As part of his act, although it also reflects his actual personality. It ''does'' slip eventually, but only when things get very bad.
* ThePollyanna: Capable of seeing a bright side even when the shelter's population has been infected by Acari X, everyone else has either died of the infection or killed themselves to prevent it from spreading, and he (the last person alive there) is about to do the same:
-->“There’s only one last thing I would like to say... What we experienced was not ill fate. We lived... we laughed... we spent our last days with the people we cherished... That is not something one would call misfortune.”
* ShaggyDogStory: He writes down the story of the shelter, which was supposed to be a HopeSpot for the people after the meteorites hit the earth, but things just keep getting worse and worse, turning it into a place of tragedy, with Mark finally committing suicide.
* TakingYouWithMe: When the Acari X in his body try to stop Mark from taking the cyanide pill, Mark uses his ChekhovsSkill to successfully manage to kill himself and the Acari within his body.
* {{Ventriloquism}}: He's a professional ventriloquist. Usually he makes his puppet talk, but he advances his abilities to have other inanimate objects talk including a coffee mug, a slice of pizza as well as dolls and stuffed toys.

A popular idol singer who was scouted by Takashi to perform a concert on the last day of the Ryugu Shelter's trip.
----
* AlliterativeName: '''M'''aria '''M'''iki.
* BeautifulSingingVoice: Whenever she sings, nearly everyone stops what they're doing and goes to watch her concerts. Unfortunately, this helped spread Acari X with her as the [[TyphoidMary asymptomatic carrier]]. She uses her singing to lure the last of the shelter's infected survivors into the freezer to lock the parasite away.
* BreakTheCutie: Upon learning that she was involved in spreading the Acari X.
* CelebritySurvivor: She was a popular idol singer before the impact. Though as it turns out, her personality is almost as sweet and angelic as her actual singing.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Like Mark, she's shown to be rather eccentric off-stage.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: She's implied to have kept on singing and performing until her last breath. In fact, she smiles at the very last time Mark sees her, just before the freezer's doors close.
* GenreSavvy: She's one of the first to notice that something's ''off'' about Ryugu. Namely the fact that the Director's opening speech comes across as stage-rehearsed rather than something a politician would say.
* HeroicSacrifice: Willingly chooses to seal herself in the shelter's freezer along with nearly all the remaining (and infected) survivors. Not only does this put the Acari X into stasis. But she's also aware that this would also ensure that when the power ''does'' die out, the contagion would have nowhere else to go.
* IdolSinger: Sings under the name MIKI MARI.
* ItsWhatIDo: What she convinces herself to keep from breaking down, as well as what she uses to remind others of why they're even in the shelter in the first place. After all, this ''was'' what she (and the others) signed up for.
* LockedInAFreezer: Her ultimate fate, her frozen body still entertaining and reaching out to the similarly frozen infected for all time... or at least until the power finally runs out.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: When the theory was set up that her dog Ten-Ten was the hidden carrier of Arcia X, she asks this of herself and whether it was a good idea to bring the dog along. Has another, minor one when she realizes that she was the actual carrier.
* TyphoidMary: Turns out she's the carrier of the Acari X, and the reason that the infection spread so thoroughly- even as things got worse, everyone still went to her concerts.

!!Takeru Hino
[[quoteright:153:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/playerhino_6614.png]]

A popular baseball player that Takashi scouted with the words whether he can be a baseball player until the end.
----
* CelebritySurvivor: A famous baseball player brought in to entertain the people in the shelter. Although several of the entertainment crew counted as this, Hino is the only one to be recognized by the survivors in the future who read the account - Aramaki is apparently a fan.
* FriendToAllChildren: He spends time with the children who are dying of the Acari X infestation and tries to entertain and comfort them, and he is very hard hit by their illness and eventual deaths.

The man that scouts most of the people that work behind the scenes in the Ryugu Shelter, who also had a big role in the creation of the 7 Seeds project. He's Hana's father and one of the former teachers of Team Summer A.
----
* TheAtoner: He's shown to have many regrets, including his decision to have his own daughter participate in the 7 Seeds program, and ''knows'' that they'll bite him in the ass one day. Still, he tries to make up for them to the very end.
* CyanidePill: Apparently, he kept some just in case... which looked more or less similar to the ones given to the 7 Seeds Guides.
* DragonInChief: ''Officially'', he's under orders from the government remnants who are nominally running the show. In reality, it becomes clear early on that he's the one actually calling the shots.
* TheExtremistWasRight: He supported the Seven Seeds project -which was considered a long-shot and crazy by comparison with the shelter plan- from the beginning. In the end, it looks like he was right about which method would ensure some people's survival.
* HappilyMarried: A newly-wed to Miho and soon-to-be-father during the Team Summer A flashback arc, and still happily married to Miho during the Ryugu Shelter arc.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: He would do ''[[UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans anything]]'' to ensure the shelter's survival, even if it disgusts him.
* IKnowKarate: Despite struggling with the Acari X infection, he proves to the minister's cocky aide that you'd have to do ''much'' more than "dabble" in martial arts...with quick and fatal results.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He did terrible things, especially when he appeared during the Team Summer A flashback arc, but he does prove his good intentions during and later.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: His last act was to drag himself along with the (likely-infected) officials to the sacrificial fan, thus not only redeeming himself but also preventing the Acari X from ever leaving the shelter.
* TheReveal: A number associated with him. He's Hana's father, he was one of the teachers of the Summer A candidates, he's the person calling the shots in the shelter (including deciding when to start killing people). Oh, [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking and he's also Assistant P]].
* SharpDressedMan: He keeps his dark suit-and-tie impeccable even in the shelter.
* SinkOrSwimMentor: One of many to the Summer A candidates, most of whom are in fact ''expected'' to sink.
* SympatheticPOV: The brief parts of the Ash arc that follow him emphasize his love of his wife and daughter, rather than the terrible things he's done (which are shown from Mark's or Ango's POV instead).
* TalkingWithSigns: As Assistant P, he does this rather than speaking aloud, which would reveal his identity.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: He's killed a lot of people in his attempts to make sure ''someone'' survives from his country.

!!Miho Suguruno
[[quoteright:142:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/miho.png]]

Takashi's wife that works in the inventory of the Ryugu Shelter and she's Hana's mother.
----
* HappilyMarried: Newly-wed to Takashi and she gave birth to Hana at the end of the Team Summer A flashback arc.
* HeroicSacrifice: Seals herself into a flooded section of the shelter, so that the water won't reach the other sections and drown the entire population.
* ShipperOnDeck: She approves of her daughter's relationship to Arashi.
* YamatoNadeshiko: The facade she gives (and what Hana remembers most about her), although her personality does contain shades of this.

!!The Director (Michitsuna Oda)
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/odamitchitsuna_4621.png]]

A failed actor that was scouted to play the role of the figurehead and Director of the Ryugu Shelter.
----
* BecomingTheMask: He was chosen to be just for show, with Takashi and the ''actual'' government remnants running things. Still, he does try to live up to his role up until his death.
* EverybodyCallsHimBarkeep: His real name is only mentioned when he first introduces himself.
* LargeHam: He wasn't successful as an actor because he was too dramatic and generally overdid things. This actually helps him in upholding his part of TheMasquerade - people think that because he is so dramatic and loud, he'd also be a bad liar and bad at keeping secrets.
* NiceGuy: He is a very nice guy, very optimistic, friendly and never seemed to lose his patience with anyone.

!!Norikazu Kagami

----
* HeroicSacrifice: Accompanies Maria into the freezer.

!!Sadao Saruwatari
[[quoteright:103:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saruwatari_8183.png]]

A go-to guy for visual projections, Saruwatari was hired by Takashi to take care of the broadcasting duties in the shelter.
----
* HeroicSuicide: To prevent the Acari X in his body from surviving and getting into the outside world.
* PrematurelyBald: He is completely bald, although he seems to be only in his late 20s to 30s.
* TheSmartGuy: He ''knows'' the broadcasting systems of the shelter and how to use them. When they lose the connection to the other shelters, he splices footage together to make the "connection" continue and even uses the installed software to basically re-create entire baseball games to broadcast over the shelter's screens.

!!Tokidoki Sakata

A well-known mangaka and creator of the in-game manga series ''Wonderful Q''. He gets invited to the Ryugu Shelter and continues his work on Wonderful Q while there.
----
* DrivingQuestion: The driving question of his manga was apparently "What is 'Q'?".
* TheGreatestStoryNeverTold: His manga "Wonderful Q" was described as wonderful, but that's just about all that is revealed to Hana from reading Mark's journal. Chances are, the manga itself had long since vanished to time.
* {{Hikkikomori}}: He doesn't leave his manga office in the shelter for 3 days and nights at first.
* ShowWithinAShow: He is the author of a manga called "Wonderful Q", which comes out at a rate of two pages a day in the shelter.

!!Shigeru
[[quoteright:121:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7_shigeru.png]]

One of the many Team Summer A candidates, Shigeru was always lagging behind the others and Ango helped him keep up. As they got older, his relationship with Ango soured mildly.

During the Final Test, Shigeru was helped by Ango and got frustrated, choosing to go separate ways. When he saw Ukai shoving Ango down a deep hole, Shigeru went after him and the two tried to climb their way out to safety.

The rope keeping both aloft fell and Shigeru chose to cut himself loose to save Ango.
----
* CutTheSafetyRope: He and Ango were suspended in the air, only held by a single rope. Shigeru was injured and knew he wouldn't make it into the team anymore, so he cut the rope -- at almost the exact time as Ryo cut it -- to make sure Ango survived.
* GeniusDitz: He comes across as weaker than several of the Summer A candidates, but he's perfectly capable of taking care of himself when necessary.
* HeroicSacrifice: He cut the rope that was suspending him mid-air to save Ango from falling, too.
* TheLostLenore: His death was the worst to hit Ango's psyche.
* NiceGuy: Shigeru is sweet, naive and helpful whenever possible.
* PhotographicMemory: He remembered where Ango put scissors he used a week ago.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Shigeru remains sweet, but as they became teenagers, he began to resent Ango's helpful, little-brother-esque attitude towards him.

!!Ukai

One of the Team Summer A candidates, though he doesn't appear important until the Final Test. During the test, he gets angry when Ango refuses to share supplies with him and citing the first come, first serve idea. He heads into an old mineshaft with Koruri and others and gains a gun, with which he plans to kill Ango.

When his right eye gets slashed out, his mind starts going and he becomes consumed with the idea of getting revenge on Ango, on whom he blames the mineshaft catastrophe and his disfigurement. He uses Shigeru's good nature to lure Ango into a trap and then tries to kill Shigeru. Ukai gets lost and is last shown slowly freezing to death.
----
* AssholeVictim: He abuses Shigeru's naivity, lures Ango into a trap that he hopes will kill him and then tries to kill Shigeru. The fact that he slowly froze to death did little to make readers sympathize.
* DeathByDisfigurement: He lost his right eye to a bear, which disqualified him from becoming a member of Team Summer A.
* TheRival: He sees himself as this to Ango, who barely gave him a thought.
* SnowMeansDeath: He freezes to death during the Final Test.

!!Team Summer A Candidates

The rest of the candidates that were competing for a spot as one of the seven members of Team Summer A. They started off far greater in number, but many have dropped out of the program over the years. During the Final Test, all but the chosen seven members died.
----
* BuriedAlive: Akaza and Kusaya, with Akaza and screaming for help from the teachers until silenced.
* CharacterTics: Nobara had a habit of chewing her fingernails, leaving them extremely short. [[note]] This is how Ango realizes the hand in the vat is Nobara's, alongside her red bracelet [[/note]]
* DeathByDisfigurement
** During the Final Test, any severe injury with resulting disfigurement mean that the candidate was disqualified of getting onto the team.
** An extreme case before the Final Test, where even the most minor of issues -- such as bad eyesight -- was deemed unqualified for the team and the student was killed, under the guise of 'dropping out'.
* DueToTheDead: Koruri, Shigeru and Ango take a few minutes to bury Mayu and Hyo, though they mention it's to make sure their bodies do not get mauled by wild animals.
* TogetherInDeath
** Mayu and Hyo, who even have some romantic teasing before their deaths.
** A less happy example with Akaza and Kusaya, who end up buried together during a mineshaft collapse.
* TooDumbToLive: Many of the candidates didn't take the severity of the situation they were being prepared for seriously, even thinking it was a joke, and ended up dying because of minor mistakes or blindly following signs, thinking that [[TemptingFate it was just a test and not actually dangerous]].
