12	Quiet, cold, and almost never seen without the titular plane, Rei serves as the series protagonist throughout its many media adaptations. Rei is a 2nd Lieutenant in the FAF's Special Air Force (SAF) reconnaissance unit, and is the pilot of the B-503 "Yukikaze" fighter. Although initially depicted as a loner, he is good friends with Jack Booker, and eventually interacts with other SAF pilots.
