This page covers all characters from the Vale of Noros in Fanfic/GameOfTouhou. For the rest of the characters, see [[Characters/GameOfTouhou this page.]] POV Characters will be noted with asterisks.

[[foldercontrol]]

The Vale of Noros are in the south-eastern end of Noros, north of the eastern half of the Borderlands, east of the Minelands and southern end of the Plains of Death, and south of the Waterlands. It is a mountainous region with lush valleys, its highest mountain being Mount Tengu, its eastern being the Valley of the Peaches, while the rivers that flow from these mountains congregate in the south at River's Fork. Its capital is the HolyCity known as the Shrine of the Lake, ruled by the Houses of Moriya and Yasaka. Bastards in this region have the surname 'Hill', not unlike the Westerlands of Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire.

[[folder:The Vale of Noros in General]]
* ButtMonkey: The majority of the Vale that isn't the Hinanawis, [[spoiler:though even they lose for the most part [[UnwittingPawn without even knowing]]]], as they are surrounded by [[TheFundamentalist the Hakureis]], which have an irascible hatred of the Moriyas, backed up by the Yakumos. In addition, they have the [[ProudWarriorRaceGuy Hinanawis]] attacking from the east, and the crown are too busy fighting the Hinanawis on their front to lift a finger to help.
* DeathMountain: Is a highly mountainous region, and is indeed defined by its mountains.
* HolyCity: Its capital (the Shrine of Lake), like the Borderlands, is one of these, for the sect of the Faith of the Old Gods that ''isn't'' TheFundamentalist in nature.
* NotInThisForYourRevolution: Or rather, not in this for your counter-revolution. The Moriyas, Yasakas, Tenmas and Kawashiros are only loyalists in the rebellion due to there being the same guaranteed enemies no matter what side they pick (the [[TheFundamentalist Hakureis]] and the [[ProudWarriorRaceGuy Hinanawis]]) and hoping that the close proximity of the Plains of Death would enable some fellow loyalists to assist them against their enemies.
* [[spoiler:ZombieApocalypse]]: [[spoiler:Gets hit heaviest by this, effectively becoming a nation under Saigyouji-wight and Yakumo rule]].
[[/folder]]

! House Moriya

The co-ruling house of the Vale, ruling from the Shrine of the Lake with House Yasaka. They are a holy family, with their leading members being [[Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire Septons and Septas]] just like the Hakureis, however, they have a hereditary line, as they are not [[TheFundamentalist fundamentalist]] enough to enforce celibacy in their rulers. Their sigil is a blue frog on a green field, and their shared sigil with House Yasaka is a blue frog with a purple snake within it, on a purple field, and their motto is 'Faith, Progress, Advancement' according to supplementary materials.

[[folder:In General]]
* AuthorityInNameOnly: While officially House Moriya rules the Vale, Septa Suwako is more than happy to sit back and let Septa Kanako rule for her.
* TheFundamentalist: Are very [[DefiedTrope opposed]] to this viewpoint, being a relaxed representative of the Faith of the Old Gods.
* HolyCity: Share the rule of the Shrine of the Lake with House Yasaka.
* RulingCouple: A platonic version- Septa Suwako Moriya and Septa Kanako Yasaka are joint rulers.
* ShoutOut: Their place as former supreme rulers of the Vale that have since decided to share their rule with a lower noble house is a reference to how in Canon, Suwako Moriya, a native goddess, was displaced as patron God of the Moriya Shrine by Kanako Yasaka, yet they are still on good(ish) terms. Also, their sigil is relating to the associated animals of Suwako Moriya and Kanako Yasaka, the frog and the snake.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Septa Suwako Moriya]]
The official ruler of the Shrine of the Lake and the Vale as a whole. An older woman who's comely and fertile for her age, and is a relaxed, kind-hearted Septa of the Old Gods.

* AuthorityInNameOnly: Is officially the ruler of the entire Vale, but gladly sits back and lets the more ambitious and competent Kanako Yasaka rule for her.
* CoolOldGal: She's most certainly one, and has no qualms being half-dressed in a Temple of the Old Gods, on top of other more relaxed and kind mannerisms.
* DemotedToExtra: An extra boss in Canon, but has noticeably little 'screen-time' in this, her most significant contribution to the plot being [[spoiler:her wedding being used as a power-seizing opportunity for Yuyuko and Yukari]].
* TheFundamentalist: Thoroughly dislikes such an attitude, chiding even Septa Yasaka for being too uptight.
* MrsRobinson: Is very much unafraid of her own sexuality, as well as being attractive for her age and fertile. She ends up proposing to [[DirtyOldMan Lord Tenma]] to permanently shirk her responsibilities as Lady Paramount of the Vale and officially put the Vale in Kanako's hands, using her attractiveness as part of the package.
* [[spoiler:PeoplePuppets]]: [[spoiler:Becomes a wight puppet of Lady Yuyuko following her Blue Wedding]].
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: [[spoiler:Her wedding to Lord Tenma results in the massacre known by readers as 'The Blue Wedding']].
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Ser Sanae Kochiya*]]
A knight of the vale from the knightly cadet branch of House Moriya known as 'House Kochiya'. Her personal sigil is a green frog on blue. She is noticeably feminine and pretty for a knight, and hence has the nickname 'The Fair Knight'. Falls in love with a bastard of Kanako Yasaka's brother after he saves her life. Becomes a POV character in Chapter 18.

* ActionGirl: Leads her host into battle several times, and is an effective fighter, managing to stand up to ''[[ProudWarriorRaceGuy valleymen]]'' of all people.
* AdaptationDyeJob: Her hair is converted to blonde in Game of Touhou, while is green in Canon. This makes her blood ties with Suwako seem more credible.
* BackToBackBadasses: With Sangaku against the Hakurei host, successfully [[spoiler:killing Chen Borders]].
* BattleCouple: With Ser Sangaku Hill/Aki.
* CliffHanger: [[spoiler:Her Blue Wedding chapter ends with her being found by a Yakumo soldier. Much later, her POV returns, revealing she survived]].
* FrontlineGeneral: Is the leader of her personal Kochiya host, but fights right alongside her men.
* GladToBeAliveSex: What her relationship with Sangaku starts off as.
* [[spoiler:TheLostLenore]]: [[spoiler:Sangaku becomes her lost Lenore after the Blue Wedding]].
* MsFanservice: Has pretty much the only sex scene in the series that is entirely loving and not twisted in any way.
* PinballProtagonist: She pretty much does what is expected of her as a knight of the Moriyas during war and later, what she can do to survive.
* PregnantBadass: [[spoiler:Even when pregnant, Sanae is a survivor and happily hunts and kills to survive in the valleys of the Vale while in hiding from the ZombieApocalypse]].
* RankUp: [[spoiler:Becomes Lady of Mount Tengu]].
* ReportsOfMyDeathWereGreatlyExaggerated: [[spoiler:A meta example- after the Blue Wedding, she runs away by gets caught by a Yakumo soldier, and then the chapter cuts away. Turns out she killed the man and is living by hunting goat in her next POV]].
* ShoutOut: Her being part of a distantly-related cadet branch of the main line of Moriyas is a reference to Sanae's heritage in Canon as Suwako's distant descendent.
* [[spoiler:SomeoneToRememberHimBy]]: [[spoiler:After Sangaku's HeroicSacrifice, Sanae runs from the Blue Wedding, and later finds out she's pregnant with his child]].
* {{Tsundere}}: Started having sex with Sangaku as a mixture of PitySex and GladToBeAliveSex, but she admits she's warmed up to him.
* [[spoiler:WackyCravings]]: [[spoiler:While pregnant, she has a taste for goat, and later, pork. However, in the [[BlackComedyCannibalism highly vengeful state of Mount Tengu]], the pork she indulges herself with [[TheSecretofLongPorkPies certainly isn't pork]]...]]
* WeaknessTurnsHerOn: Sangaku is hardly weak in terms of fighting capability, but is certainly the less emotionally domineering of the two, and Sanae seems to like this, to the point of being on top whenever they make love.
* WorldsMostBeautifulWoman: Is treated as the most beautiful woman in the Vale, certainly.
[[/folder]]

! House Yasaka

The truly ruling half of the Moriya-Yasaka allegiance, initially a smaller, landless noble house. Its current leader, Septa Kanako Yasaka, is an ambitious woman who seized power over the Vale by forming the Moriya-Yasaka allegiance. Their standalone sigil is a purple snake on a green field, while its shared sigil with the Moriyas is a blue frog with a purple snake within it on a purple field. Their words are unknown.

[[folder:In General]]
* AmbitionIsEvil: Septa Kanako is generally the darker of she and Septa Suwako, however this trope is [[SubvertedTrope subverted]] as House Yasaka's rule is (by Suwako's own admission) much better than the Moriyas' alone.
* DragonInChief: Despite being a lower house, they are clearly this to House Moriya.
* HolyCity: They share the rule of the Shrine of the Sea with House Moriya.
* OldShame: An in-universe example- Akuto Yasaka, womanizer and father of many a bastard, is this to House Yasaka. He is (thankfully for Kanako) dead thanks to being strangled to death by one of his lovers according to supplementary materials.
* RulingCouple: A platonic version- Septa Kanako and Septa Suwako are joint rulers of the Vale.
* ShoutOut: Their place as lower nobles that usurp and share the rule of the Vale that once belonged to the Moriyas alone is a reference to how in Canon, Suwako Moriya, a native goddess, was displaced as patron God of the Moriya Shrine by Kanako Yasaka, yet they are still on good(ish) terms. Also, their shared sigil is relating to the associated animals of Suwako Moriya and Kanako Yasaka, the frog and the snake.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Septa Kanako Yasaka]]
Septa Suwako Moriya's DragonInChief, an ambitious petty noble who rules the Vale in all but name. A cold, yet effective ruler that most wouldn't consider their friend, but at least have respect for.

* AdaptationDyeJob: Has black hair in this, as opposed to the blue of Canon.
* AmbitionIsEvil: She is darker and colder than Septa Suwako, to the point of not even grieving for her [[PosthumousCharacter 'degenerate' brother]], and her ambition led her to becoming the de facto ruler of the Vale, however [[SubvertedTrope she is very much an effective leader]], making her ambition seem justified.
* BadassCape: Has a fluffy black one to keep her warm, a sign of her more practical nature to oppose Septa Suwako's capricious nature.
* BlackCloak: Has a tendency to dress in black cloaks, making her seem somewhat unapproachable.
* DemotedToExtra: While prominent and her [[spoiler:breakdown regarding the hopelessness of the Vale's situation]] being relevant, compared to her role in Canon as a final boss, she is this.
* DragonInChief: Is this to Septa Suwako, something Moriya knows very well.
* EvilAunt: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. Sangaku Hill is quite apprehensive of visiting his biological aunt, but she treats him reasonably, considering his [[spoiler:knighting]] as some form of compensation for her brother fathering him on a miller's wife.
* TheFundamentalist: Septa Kanako is more on this spectrum than Septa Suwako, and disapproves of some of her more flagrant practices (like being half-dressed in a temple), but [[SubvertedTrope still considers Reimu an unlikable extremist]].
* HeroicBSOD: Has a brief one after [[spoiler:accepting the Moriya-Yasaka-Tenma-Kawashiro front of the war is lost]].
* IceQueen: Is this by policy.
* KneelBeforeZod: Considers [[spoiler:surrendering to the Hakurei-Yakumo-Hinanawi alliance]] this, [[spoiler:but does so to spare the bloodshed]].
* PeoplePuppets: [[spoiler:Becomes an offscreen variant for Lady Yuyuko]].
* RankUp: Finally becomes Lady of the Shrine of the Lake in her own right after the wedding of Septa Suwako and Lord Tenma. [[spoiler:A shame she barely lives to experience this]].
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: While a cold woman, no-one doubts her effectiveness as a ruler.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Sangaku Hill]]
The bastard son of the late Akuto Yasaka, Kanako's little brother, being raised by the miller's wife that gave birth to him and his miller stepfather, of whom have two girls which are his half-sisters. When he saves Sanae's life at the Battle of Fort Mizu, he becomes her lover as well as being knighted, becoming Ser Sangaku Aki and taking a wheat-head for his sigil, in reference to his miller's family.

* BackToBackBadasses: With Sanae, managing to repel several Hakureis and [[spoiler:kill Chen Borders]].
* BattleCouple: With Ser Sanae Kochiya.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Has this towards his half-sisters, who adore him.
* CarpetOfVirility: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. Sanae describes his chest as 'hairy, but not too much'.
* ForegoneConclusion: If you read the cast list, the mention of Minoriko and Shizuha as his half-sisters pretty much gives away his surname is going to become Aki.
* FrontlineGeneral: When leading part of the Yasaka host, is this, just like Ser Sanae.
* GladToBeAliveSex: Enjoys this courtesy of a grateful Ser Sanae, which starts their relationship.
* HeroicBastard: Is undoubtedly this, to the point of saving Sanae's life twice, the second time being [[spoiler:a HeroicSacrifice]].
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:He makes an opening in the wights at the Blue Wedding, knowing he's going to die, to make sure Sanae can escape]].
* TheLostLenore: [[spoiler:Becomes this to Sanae post-HeroicSacrifice]].
* NiceGuy: Is one of the few characters to play this completely straight.
* OldShame: In universe: he is one of many of Septa Kanako's bastard nephews/nieces, however she accepts his knighting as compensation for her brother's debauchery, making this a [[SubvertedTrope subversion]].
* OriginalCharacter
* RankUp: Becomes a knight thanks to saving Ser Sanae, going from Sangaku Hill to Ser Sangaku Aki.
* ShoutOut: His surname when knighted, Aki, as well as the sigil of a wheat-head, is a reference to the Goddess of the Harvest in Touhou Canon, Minoriko Aki.
* TooHappyToLive: [[spoiler:He was planning on marrying Ser Sanae, and is revealed to have got her pregnant. He also happened to die shortly after the former was decided]].
* UriahGambit: [[spoiler:Is sent on one by Lord Tenma out of jealousy, but Sanae accompanies him, and both survive]].
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Shizuha]]
Sangaku's eldest half-sister, a CheerfulChild who adores her older brother. Becomes Septa Kanako's very own messenger.

* AChildShallLeadThem: [[spoiler:In the absence of any better heirs to Septa Kanako, becomes the ruler of the Shrine of the Lake]].
* CheerfulChild: Absolutely adores Sangaku despite him only being her half-brother, and she is proof that Sangaku really is as nice as he seems.
* DemotedToExtra: [[InvertedTrope Inverted]], surprisingly enough for the series. As a midboss without dialogue in Canon, she is relatively major when functioning as a messenger for Lady Kanako and [[spoiler:ruling the Shrine of the Lake at the end]]..
* GoodNewsBadNews: Becomes a message deliverer for her step-aunt Kanako after Sangaku's knighting.
* RankUp: Along with her sister, she becomes part of the knightly House of Aki upon Sangaku Hill becoming Ser Sangaku Aki. [[spoiler:She then is discussed as being a pawn to rule over the Shrine of the Lake in absence of there being any other viable heirs for Septa Kanako.]]
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Minoriko]]
Sangaku Hill's youngest half-sister, child of the miller and his wife.

* DemotedToExtra: The first boss of Touhou 10, but never even on-screen in this fanfic.
* RankUp: Becomes part of the knightly House of Aki upon Sangaku's knighting, and [[spoiler:is in the line of succession for ruling over the Shrine of the Lake in the later story]].
[[/folder]]

! House Tenma

An ancient noble house of the Vale that once ruled it before the Old Gods spread their influence to the region. Their seat is Mount Tengu, the highest mountain in Noros, and as well as their city, which rests near the peak, they have two forts close to the Valley of Peaches, Fort Mizu and Fort Mori. Their sigil is a brown maple leaf on a sky-blue field, and their motto is '[[TheInformant We are the Words upon the Winds]]' according to supplementary material.

[[folder:In General]]
* AllThereInTheManual: Many of their quirks, including the reason for their sigil (they once heavily relied on maple to survive), their history as the greater house of the Vale, their tradition of ruling lords/ladies dropping their first names, and their words are all only mentioned in the supplementary material.
* ArchEnemy: They consider the Hinanawis this due to their proximity to them, and hence greater likihood to being raided.
* DeathMountain: Their seat, Mount Tengu, is the highest mountain in Noros.
* TheInformant: They have a pair of spy-masters and therefore act as this to the Vale, both of which are hardly on the level of [[OffscreenTeleportation Yukari]] or [[MagnificentBastard Tewi]], but still competent enough to outsmart the Hinanawis, and later, [[spoiler:arrange a liberation of the Vale from the ZombieApocalypse via the Waterlands]].
* LastOfHisKind: Lord Tenma, [[spoiler:at least until Ser Tatsumi Hakkaisan is elevated to a lord]], is the only male noble with land of his own.
* OnlyOneName: A tradition among the ruling lord/ladies Tenma. Their given name is forgotten as they take on the ruling title, supposeedly to enforce their ''role'', not their ''person''.
* ShoutOut: Their sigil is a reference to both Canada and the leaf fans of a tengu, their seat, Mount Tengu, is a similar shout-out to the tengu-populated Youkai Mountain of Touhou, and finally, their motto is a reference to how the tengu of Gensokyo are obsessed with information, as well as being able to control [[BlowYouAway wind]].
* TheSecretofLongPorkPies: [[spoiler:Their big vengeance against the Yakumos courtesy of Aya and Hatate involve killing the occupying Yakumo commanders and turning them into long pork for [[RunningGag katsudon]]]].
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Lord Tenma XIX]]
Apparently the nineteenth Lord of Mount Tengu, a lecherous, yet handsome older man who is generally considered politically incompetent.

* AffablyEvil: Is at the very least morally grey, but is always polite.
* AmbiguouslyEvil: Is mostly polite, and his loyalty to the Vale as a whole is certainly strong, but his willingness to [[spoiler:try and send Sangaku to his death to keep Sanae for himself]] shows he has a clear dark side to him.
* DirtyOldMan: He's closer to middle aged, but is quite the lecher to Sanae.
* FrontlineGeneral: Say what you will of him, he leads his men into battle at Fort Mori and succeeds in taking it back, so he isn't all that bad for his age.
* GreenEyedMonster: Is jealous of Sangaku due to his lust for Sanae.
* HandsomeLech: Is quite handsome for his age, but a lecher all the same.
* LastOfHisKind: Is the only landed noble in Noros that is male [[spoiler:until Ser Tatsumi Hakkaisan is made into Lord of Muenzuka]].
* TheLoad: In terms of political skill. As an actual fighter, he seems very much in his prime.
* [[spoiler:NeverSpeakIllOfTheDead]]: [[spoiler:His subordinates make no bones mocking his preference for younger women after his death, thoroughly [[AvertedTrope averting]] this trope]].
* OCStandIn: Tenma was this in Canon, and so has been molded into a HandsomeLech with a villainous side.
* PeoplePuppets: [[spoiler:Becomes a Saigyouji wight to secure power for Yuyuko in Mount Tengu]].
* TokenEvilTeammate: Sanae sees him as this, but the truth of the matter is likely more grey, with the worst crime he's guilty of being a lecher and [[spoiler:attempting a UriahGambit on Sangaku]].
* UriahGambit: [[spoiler:Attempts one on Sangaku to have Sanae to himself, but it doesn't work, as Sanae goes with him into battle and both survive.]]
* VillainousCrush: On Sanae, somewhat, given [[spoiler:he's willing to send Sangaku on a UriahGambit.]]
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Lady Aya Shameimaru]]
A petty noble who can [[SpeaksFluentAnimal converse with crows]] to gain information. Generally her information turns out to be correct, despite her dubious methods.

* BestServedCold: After [[spoiler:the Blue Wedding]], she and Hatate both become cold-blooded vengeance machines, starting by [[spoiler:killing the Yakumo commanders occupying Mount Tengu and turning them into [[TheSecretofLongPorkPies long pork]], and later by deliberately letting the Scarlets into one of the more defensible cities of the Vale so as to sweep through and bring about Yukari and Yuyuko's downfall]].
* DeadpanSnarker: Is rather snarky, even to [[spoiler:''Yukari'']], of all people.
* TheDividual: With Hatate, to the point where one is never seen without the other and both have the exact same plans, though Aya seems far more intent on taking vengeance than Hatate, who is more passive.
* {{Expy}}: Later on in the story, both she and Hatate alike are expies of [[Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire Lord Wyman Manderly]] in that they [[spoiler:kill the subordinates of a notorious breaker of SacredHospitality and proceed to eat them]].
* {{Hikikomori}}: After [[spoiler:the Blue Wedding]], Aya and Hatate both become this for their own protection.
* TheInformant: Along with Hatate, she forms the information-gathering facet of the Vale.
* KneelBeforeZod: [[spoiler:She and Hatate pretend to do this to Yuyuko and Yukari's regime, but actually do it to the Scarlet regime in order to free the Vale of the ZombieApocalypse]].
* {{Protectorate}}: Is under the protection of Momiji Inubashiri along with Hatate.
* RedOniBlueOni: Is a mild red to Hatate's mild blue. She is more enraged by the idea of [[spoiler:bending the knee to Chkyuu]] than Hatate, who is more passive, but ultimately accepts the decision.
* SacredHospitality: Is noticeably very kind to the much hated Yukari Yakumo, offering her food. [[spoiler:This is likely a jab at Yukari- something that shows a ''true'' love of SacredHospitality: she's trying to make her eat her own subordinates as vengeance for the Blue Wedding]].
* ShoutOut: Her ability to speak with crows is a reference to her species in Canon: a crow tengu.
* TheSpymaster: Has a network of crows she speaks to.
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: Speaks with crows to gain information.
* TakenALevelInBadass: From largely passive spymaster of the Vale to [[BestServedCold cold-blooded deliverer of vengeance]] against [[spoiler:Yukari, for the Blue Wedding]].
* TheSecretofLongPorkPies: [[spoiler:Heavily implied to be killing Yakumo commanders and turning them into pork for katsudon throughout the Momiji POV chapters]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Lady Hatate Himekaidou]]
The second, more conventional spymaster of the Vale. She gathers information via a spy network.

* BestServedCold: After [[spoiler:the Blue Wedding]], she and Aya both become cold-blooded vengeance machines, starting by [[spoiler:killing the Yakumo commanders occupying Mount Tengu and turning them into [[TheSecretofLongPorkPies long pork]], and later by deliberately letting the Scarlets into one of the more defensible cities of the Vale so as to sweep through and bring about Yukari and Yuyuko's downfall]].
* DeadpanSnarker: While not as snarky as Aya, she has her moments.
* TheDividual: With Aya, as she's never seen without her and they generally are in sync in terms of plans. She is actually the calmer of the two, and is less vengeful.
* {{Expy}}: Later on in the story, both she and Aya alike are expies of [[Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire Lord Wyman Manderly]] in that they [[spoiler:kill the subordinates of a notorious breaker of SacredHospitality and proceed to eat them]].
* {{Hikikomori}}: After [[spoiler:the Blue Wedding]], she and Aya both become this for their own protection.
* TheInformant: Along with Hatate, she forms the information-gathering facet of the Vale.
* {{Protectorate}}: Is under the protection of Momiji Inubashiri along with Aya.
* RedOniBlueOni: Is a pale blue to Aya's pale red.
* SacredHospitality: Is outraged [[spoiler:by the Blue Wedding]], to the point where she and Aya [[spoiler:kill Yakumo soldiers and eat them as vengeance]].
* TheSpymaster: Unlike Aya, she has a more conventional set of spies.
* TakenALevelInBadass: The same as Aya: once merely a passive secondary character and spymaster turned [[BestServedCold cold-blooded deliverer of vengeance]] against [[spoiler:Yukari, for the Blue Wedding]].
* [[spoiler:TheSecretofLongPorkPies]]: [[spoiler:Heavily implied to be having Yakumo commanders killed and turning them into pork for katsudon throughout the Momiji POV chapters]].
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Ser Momiji Inubashiri*]]
A knight of Mount Tengu that is generally a bodyguard. Owns a wolf named [[ShoutOut Okami]]. Is a largely passive and dutiful knight that does as she's told. Becomes a POV character in chapter 79.

* AscendedExtra: Prior to getting a POV only had one minor appearance, but becomes the only POV in which we see [[spoiler:the Vale's uprising post-Blue Wedding.]]
* BigEater: Takes any food that no-one else is eating, and is particularly fond of the [[spoiler:long pork]] katsudon the spymasters make.
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: Blatantly [[spoiler:threatens to kill Yukari if she tries to kill Hatate or Aya]]. The strangest part is she seems to actually frighten her.
* {{Expy}}: A rather noticeable expy of Areo Hotah, in that she's a POV bodyguard of two people thought to be passively taking slight after slight, but are actually cold-bloodedly plotting vengeance.
* NobleWolf: Her wolf, Okami. It follows her into battle when she fights like it would the pack alpha.
* NotSoStoic: While generally quiet to the point of being unsettling, she is genuinely warm and loving to Okami, letting him jump up to her shoulders and lick her face.
* ObliviouslyEvil: Though there are strong implications throughout her POV chapters that [[spoiler:she's eating Yakumo commander in her katsudon]], she herself never seems to notice.
* TheQuietOne: Wastes absolutely no words, saying what needs to be said and remaining silent.
* SinisterScimitar: Wields a curved sword along with a shield.
* ShoutOut: Her wolf's name is Okami, and the fact she has a wolf is a reference to her being a White Wolf Tengu in Canon.
* TheStoic: Is very emotionally level, to say the least.
[[/folder]]

! House Kawashiro

The ruling house of River's Fork, the southernmost major city of the Vale. They are, [[AllThereInTheManual according to supplementary material]], highly technologically advanced, having [[ClockPunk water-driven clockwork machinery]] to mass-produce swords. They also have an impressive academic record under Lady Nitori, comparable to that of the [[Characters/GameOfTouhouSeaOfDemons Alchemical Stronghold]]. Their sigil is a dark blue kappa on a green field, and their motto is 'Taking the Water's Prosperity' according to supplementary material.

[[folder:In General]]
* AllThereInTheManual: Most of their traits in general.
* ButtMonkey: Due to their prime position as a technological center of the Vale, as well as being close to the Borderlands and on low ground instead of being on a mountain, River's Fork is the first loyalist city in the Vale to fall, to no-one's surprise.
* ClockPunk: Their technology is a water-wheel themed version of this trope.
* {{Kappa}}: Their sigil is a dark blue one, and Ser Mizumi Kawashiro even wears a helmet shaped like a kappa's head. According to supplementary material there are rumors there's a kappa lurking in their rivers somewhere.
* SixthRanger: To the Vale loyalists.
* TheSmartGuy: To the Vale as a whole.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Lady Nitori Kawashiro]]
The mousy-looking Lady of River's Fork. She is naturally quiet, yet was apparently also responsible for revolutionizing the education and technology in River's Fork.

* AdaptationDyeJob: Has blue hair in Canon, but has brown hair in this.
* DeadpanSnarker: Has her moments.
* DefiantToTheEnd: [[spoiler:During the Blue Wedding, she and Shingyoku accept their deaths and have one last kiss together, accepting their deaths]].
* IHaveYourWife: Is held hostage by the Hakureis to ensure the loyalty of the Kawashiro hosts. [[spoiler:However, Mizumi Kawashiro ends up fighting for the Vale loyalists regardless, bringing his men over to their side again, knowing [[LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt Reimu would never actually hurt her]].]]
* KnowWhenToFoldThem: She surrenders to the Hakureis to spare unnecessary bloodshed.
* MoralityPet: Acts as one to Shingyoku Borders.
* OnlySaneMan: When with Reimu and Shingyoku, though she ends up having a beneficial effect on the latter.
* TheQuietOne: Is mostly silent in the tactical meetings with her fellow loyalists, but noticeably becomes more vocal when with the Hakureis, speaking out against Reimu's idiocy.
* TheSmartGuy: Supposedly is one, and certainly is compared to [[TheFundamentalist Reimu]], but [[DamnedByFaintPraise that's not saying much]].
* StarCrossedLovers: With Shingyoku Borders, who initially is there to guard her as a hostage.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Ser Mizumi Kawashiro]]
An older cousin of Lady Nitori and knight for the Kawashiros.

* InSeriesNickname: Is known as 'the Kappa'.
* {{Kappa}}: Has a kappa's-head helmet.
* OriginalCharacter
* [[spoiler:{{Turncloak}}]]: [[spoiler:Surprisingly, out of loyalty to the Vale. Septa Reimu assumed that with Lady Nitori as her hostage, he and his hosts would fight for the Hakureis, however Mizumi simply brings his men to the Vale Loyalists' side after the Hakureis get their asses handed to them]].

! House Hinanawi

The westernmost noble house in the Vale, situated in the Valley of Peaches, which is underneath the great Mount Tengu. It is a lush, fertile region with land that is great for growing food, but aside from that is useless. Their culture is very idiosyncratic, their populace being known as the 'valleymen'. They are famed for their creed of never indulging in trade, either making items themselves or stealing items by way of RapePillageAndBurn. In doing so, they have not earned many friends in and out of the Vale, but despite this claim themselves to be the rightful rulers of the Vale, and wish to establish the Vale as an independent kingdom. Their sigil is a peach that is colored, well, peach, on a blue field. Their motto is 'The Ground Will Shake'.

[[folder:In General]]
* AffablyEvil: Sure, they RapePillageAndBurn, but the valleymen also make great drinking buddies!
* BeardOfBarbarism: Most of their men have one of some description.
* BoisterousBruiser: The valleymen as a whole tend to be massive, strong, red-haired men that make great friends and terrible enemies.
* ChekhovsGun: The Sword of Hisou is traditionally dipped in quicksilver, and has tarnished renditions of the stuff speckled on it. [[spoiler:Turns out the Saigyouji wights are [[WeaksauceWeakness weak to quicksilver]], and the sword's ability to kill them permanently leads to all of Noros discovering the weakness and unraveling Yuyuko's plans]].
* CoolSword: The Sword of Hisou, their ancestral sword, is a one-handed blade dipped in [[ChekhovsGun quicksilver]], speckled with tarnished mercury from previous dippings.
* {{Expy}}: Of the Greyjoys of Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire in that they have RapePillageAndBurn down to a religious rite, and of the Scots in terms of their propensity to have red hair and their FunetikAksent.
* FieryRedhead: Both the males and females as a culture seem to be this, the males doubling as [[BoisterousBruiser Boisterous Bruisers]].
* FunetikAksent: The valleymen's speech is peppered with Scottish turns of phrase and pronunciations.
* IWorkAlone: The general policy of the Hinanawis due to pride, but [[spoiler:once wighted, Tenshi changes that]].
* KlingonScientistsGetNoRespect: As a Proud Warrior Race, they disdain scholarly pursuits.
* LargeHam: Enforce this ''as a culture''. Subtlety is not their strong suit.
* LifeOfTheParty: Whenever there are valleymen at a party, expect it to be a wild one.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: To the rest of the Vale when [[spoiler:Wight!Tenshi takes over the Vale with the assistance of Yukari Yakumo]].
* ProudWarriorRaceGuy: The majority of the valleymen are this.
* RapePillageAndBurn: Their modus operandi when dealing with other cities.
* ShoutOut: The Sword of Hisou is also the name of Tenshi's sword in Canon. Not only that but [[spoiler:the sword also eventually gains elemental powers like in Canon]].
* SmallNameBigEgo: They are on their own in the war that breaks out, yet hope to take over ''the entire Vale''. [[spoiler:In the end, Yuyuko 'convinces' Queen Tenshi to accept alliegence with the Borderlanders]].
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Lady Tenshi Hinanawi]]
Lady of the Valley of Peaches and self-proclaimed Queen of the Vale. Is a charismatic and bold leader, said to be her father's daughter.

* ActionGirl: Especially by the relatively sexist culture of the valleymen.
* AdaptationDyeJob: Is blue-haired in Canon, but red-haired in this.
* CoolSword: Wields the family sword, the Sword of Hisou, a sword able to [[spoiler:kill wights and make them stay dead]].
* {{Expy}}: Of [[Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire Asha Greyjoy]] in some ways: she claims herself queen of an independant RapePillageAndBurn faction, as well as noting that she has to be strong in order to rule such a people as a woman, but yet being badass enough to gain a following regardless.
* FauxAffablyEvil: As [[spoiler:a wight, Sanae views her as potentially a good ruler for a valleywoman. This turns out to be TemptingFate, and the Blue Wedding happens subsequently]].
* FieryRedhead: Like most of the valleymen.
* FrontlineGeneral: Does not seem to care that she's the only major rallying point for the valleymen: she'll bleed with her men whenever she can.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: [[spoiler:Gains glowing blue eyes as a wight following the Battle of Death's Gates]].
* TheLoad: [[spoiler:The valleymen get manipulated into viewing her undead incarnation as this by Sakuya and Chikyuu in order to free the Valley of the Peaches from wight influence]].
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: After [[spoiler:becoming undead and gaining support from Lady Yukari, she becomes this to the rest of the Vale, effectively taking over]].
* OneOfTheBoys: Is treated as such by the valleymen.
* ReportsOfMyDeathWereGreatlyExaggerated: Iku leaves the Battle of Death's Gates thinking she's dead, but then sees her perfectly alive. [[spoiler:However, it's a [[SubvertedTrope subversion]]- Tenshi IS dead, and it is just her body being used as a [[PeoplePuppets People Puppet]].]]
* PeoplePuppets: [[spoiler:Becomes this to Yuyuko in order to wield control over the Vale]].
* ShoutOut: Her CoolSword, the Sword of Hisou, is also wielded by Canon's Tenshi, and just like the Canon Sword of Hisou, [[spoiler:it gains elemental powers]].
* ProudWarriorRaceGirl: Just like all the other valleymen, clearly as part of her being OneOfTheBoys.
* UndeathlyPallor: [[spoiler:Following the Battle of Death's Gates, she returns as a wight, and has this sort of skin]].
* UniversallyBelovedLeader: Among the valleymen. [[spoiler:It doesn't last however, as when she becomes undead, the valleymen see her as an ill girl and consequently TheLoad, usurping her and elevating Chikyuu to king to replace her.]]
* UnwittingPawn: Yukari plays her like a fiddle by making her get {{Revenge}} on Yuyuko, [[spoiler:which is actually a means to get her killed, reanimated, and used as a puppet to secure Yuyuko's power in the Vale]].
* WeHardlyKnewYe: [[spoiler:Dies at Ser Youmu's hands is a charge against the thought-to-be poorly-manned Death's Gates]].
* ZombieApocalypse: [[spoiler:Her reign as wight!Queen of the Vale ushers in such an era, especially after the Blue Wedding]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Maester Chikyuu Hinanawi]]
The uncle of Tenshi Hinanawi, [[KlingonScientistsGetNoRespect despised for being a scholar]]. He is mild-mannered and intelligent, and [[spoiler:eventually succeeds Tenshi as King of the Vale when her status as a wight is outed and a revolution takes place]].

* AscendedExtra: [[spoiler:Is first seen after Iku wakes up from passing out during Sakuya's teleportation away from the Battle of Death's Gates. There he's nothing more than TheMedic. Eventually becomes one of the most powerful players in Noros, or rather the Vale]].
* CaptainObviousAesop: An in-universe example is required to [[spoiler:put Chikyuu in power: stating that more healing means more survival, and more survival means more RapePillageAndBurn needs to be ''explained'' to the valleymen]].
* CoolOldGuy: No matter what the valleymen think, Chikyuu is a rather nice old man.
* CrackShip: An in-universe example given most of the characters' responses to it: [[spoiler:he and Ser Sakuya's marriage of political convenience. It's an old man and a warlock, and surprisingly, [[PerfectlyArrangedMarriage both of them seem rather pleased at the prospect]]]].
* DeadpanSnarker: Not as snarky as some, but has the odd moment.
* {{Expy}}: A mild one of [[Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire Samwell Tarly]], given he's from a militaristic-minded family, but is a scholarly sort, and is also was hated by an older family member for it.
* TheGoodKing: [[spoiler:Is shaping up to be this, from the looks of it]].
* KlingonScientistsGetNoRespect: As a scholarly valleyman, he is disliked. They even disdain his ability to heal, [[spoiler:but eventually, after having the obvious stated to them by Sakuya in a {{Glamour}}, they realize that his ability to heal will enable valleymen to live after battles and be able to RapePillageAndBurn some more]].
* TheMedic: Is a skilled healer.
* MoralityPet: The fact that Ser Iku treats him with some dignity cements her as a good person.
* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch: Has a general dislike of the valleymen's general idiocy and obsession with martial might over intelligence.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Though he rarely laughs, when he does, it's the same booming laugh as every other valleyman. [[spoiler:In addition, at his wedding to Sakuya, in chapter 131, he chuckles at one drunk valleyman's "lewd suggestion"]].
* OddFriendship: With Ser Iku and [[spoiler:Ser Sakuya]].
* OnlySaneMan: Shares this role to the valleymen along with Ser Iku.
* OriginalCharacter
* PerfectlyArrangedMarriage: With [[spoiler:Ser Sakuya, despite he being an old man and she being a warlock. They seem to surprisingly get on well, and Sakuya at least puts on a show of passion for the man]].
* UnexpectedSuccessor: [[spoiler:After Tenshi is officially (and permanently) dead, Chikyuu succeeds her as King of the Vale]].
* TheUnfavorite: Was apparently this among his brothers.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ser Iku Nagae*]]
A skilled, intelligent knight of the Valley of Peaches. Unlike her fellow valleymen, she is a CombatPragmatist who prefers to fight from a range. She also is a skilled strategist compared to the rest of the valleymen, and is known as 'the Thunderbolt' for her ability to storm forts. Becomes a POV character in Chapter 25, and is notably the character with the most POV chapters.

* ActionGirl: This is a bit of an understatement, given she's killed [[spoiler:wights, among other things]].
* AdaptationalBadass: Though scaled down to LowFantasy, Iku is, in comparison to most of the cast, a complete and utter Badass, [[spoiler:especially after her DeadlyUpgrade]].
* AdaptationalHeroism: Is far less passive in her heroic deeds compared to Canon, and is actually heroic rather than just doing her job.
* AdaptationDyeJob: Has black hair in this, as opposed to purple in canon.
* AnArmAndALeg: [[spoiler:Loses her legs in Chapter 126 after Selenion lands on them, forcing Ser Tachiba to cut them off]].
* AmbiguouslyGay: She never expresses interest in men except as potential tools to further her lineage. In addition, when seeing [[MsFanservice Lady Marisa]] wake up, her POV noticeably focuses on her body, and later, Ser Shibou speculates if she fancies Lady Marisa.
* AntiHero: Has less scruples than a traditional fantasy hero, which assists greatly considering this is a LowFantasy.
* AscendedExtra: Compared to Canon- she is a penultimate boss of most stories in Scarlet Weather Rhapsody, but in this is the closest thing to a main character due to her consistent significance.
* BlackSheep: To the ProudWarriorRaceGuy culture of the valleymen, the CombatPragmatist Iku is treated this way.
* CassandraTruth: [[spoiler:When she tells everyone Tenshi is really dead, and that her replacement is an undead variant]].
* CombatPragmatist: Prefers to fight with arrows, firing from a horse, rather than taking the approach of swords simply being better.
* CoolSword: [[spoiler:Ends up taking the Sword of Hisou, which helps her kill wights, and later, when it is charged up by the Okazakis, makes her a ''force of nature'']].
* DeadlyUpgrade: [[spoiler:Following her visit to the Okazakis, her procured Sword of Hisou becomes a lightning staff of sorts, electrocuting everything in the vicinity]].
* DeadpanSnarker: Has an incredibly snarky POV.
* TheDragonslayer: [[spoiler:Becomes one in chapter 126, killing Selenion]].
%%* FragileSpeedster: Is naturally small, fast and sneaky. [[spoiler:Full on inverts this when in her anti-lightning armor]].
* [[spoiler:GoneHorriblyRight]]: [[spoiler:Her sword and armor are this for the Okazakis- the sword fires lightning like a treat, and the armor protects her well... but it basically makes her a miniature PersonOfMassDestruction]].
* HeroicBSOD: Has a couple, once [[spoiler:in response to finding out Tenshi is thought to be alive and is a wight]], and secondly [[spoiler:after losing her legs]].
* InSeriesNickname: The Thunderbolt. [[spoiler:Ends up renaming the Sword of Hisou 'Thunderbolt' once it becomes able to fire lightning]].
* KillItWithFire: [[spoiler:Her sword tends to have this side-effect post-DeadlyUpgrade]].
* MightyGlacier: [[spoiler:After her DeadlyUpgrade, she's this [[RequiredSecondaryPowers by necessity]], as she needs bulky armor to act as a Faraday Cage to protect herself from her own lightning sword. This makes her very slow, and ''very'' powerful]].
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: First as "The Thunderbolt" and then [[spoiler:as the Dragonslayer, granted it's a subversion since she was crippled.]]
* OddFriendship: With [[spoiler:Ser Parsee and Lady Tewi Inaba]].
* OnlySaneMan: Appears to share the only two functioning brains in the Valley of Peaches with Maester Chikyuu.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: [[spoiler:Becomes this thanks to her DeadlyUpgrade]].
* PetTheDog: Her interactions with Maester Chikyuu [[spoiler:and Ser Parsee]].
* PinballProtagonist: She doesn't travel with aim as much as go wherever fate takes her, but generally kicks ass in some way.
* PoweredArmor: [[spoiler:Has the setting's equivalent in it's able to protect her from her own lightning]].
* PowerIncontinence: [[spoiler: After she receives her DeadlyUpgrade to the Sword of Hisou, she's faced with a slight problem- she can never draw it unless ''everything'' in the immediate vicinity is something she wants dead/burnt]].
* ProudWarriorRaceGirl: Every now and then, her reaving instincts show, and she certainly has the valleyman badassery in her.
* RankUp: [[spoiler:Though it costs her her legs, she becomes Lady of the City of Flames]].
* RequiredSecondaryPowers: [[spoiler:Her protective armor functions as this post-DeadlyUpgrade, acting as a Faraday Cage to stop Iku from electrocuting herself]].
* ScarsAreForever: Gains several scars and burns from [[spoiler:having survived several fires caused by her lightning sword's PowerIncontinence]].
* ShockAndAwe: [[spoiler:Ends up having the Sword of Hisou fortified with some sort of alchemical powers by the Okazakis, making it able to fire lightning whenever unsheathed]].
* ShoutOut: Her being skilled at storms and being named 'the Thunderbolt' is a reference to her lightning powers in Canon. [[spoiler:She later gets lightning powers in this series too]].
* UnlikelyHero: Coincidence after coincidence sends her all over Noros, and she has a small hand in several major events.
* TheWatson: Acts as this to several plots that are being carried out by people who don't normally have a POV character nearby due to Iku's wandering nature.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Ser Katori]]
A valley knight that boasts of having a family sigil with a phoenix on it long before the Fujiwaras. He dances with [[spoiler:'novice Nise' in one of her chapters]].

* BoisterousBruiser: Like most valleymen.
* ChivalrousPervert: Comments on [[spoiler:Sakuya's {{Glamour}} as attractive]], and liked to dance with Iku, but overall seems like a nice guy that doesn't act like a lech.
* FieryRedhead
* MeaningfulName: 'Katori' is a Portmanteau of 'Kami' and 'Tori', Japanese for 'Fire' and 'Bird' respectively.
* OriginalCharacter
* ThePhoenix: Boasts of having a phoenix for a sigil, not unlike [[Characters/GameOfTouhouWoodlands the Fujiwaras]].
* RankUp: [[spoiler:As revealed in the Epilogue, he ends up ruling Death's Gates]].
[[/folder]]
[[folder:[[spoiler:Prince Ieyasu Hinanawi*]]]]
The final POV, covering the DistantFinale of Game of Touhou. [[spoiler:He is the fourteen year old son of King Chikyuu and Queen Sakuya, and hence is Prince of the Vale]].

* AllMenArePerverts: Boy oh boy, is he this. He has a ''massive'' PrecociousCrush on [[StacysMom Koakuma]], and even looks at her while she's changing, on to be interrupted by her husband.
* FanBoy: Has a massive crush on Koakuma, and when Iku is mentioned, gushes profusely about her heroism.
* HistoryIsWrittenByTheWinners: His entire outlook on history is based on this trope, and he is convinced [[spoiler:the independent sovereignty of the Vale was some epic battle waged by the great Warrior Queen Tenshi]].
* IdiotBall: Koakuma's mere presence causes Ieyasu to hold it full-time.
* LikesOlderWomen: Has a thing for Koakuma, a thirty-eight year old, despite being fourteen. When [[spoiler:Sakuya]] suggests he marry her daughter, Kaori, he seems disgusted by the idea despite being much closer to her age.
* MommasBoy: He is very easily made to do things by his mother, [[spoiler:Sakuya]], and fondly remembers playing games with her, like racing against her while [[spoiler:she teleports]].
* PrecociousCrush: Has an outright ''lust'' for Koakuma, despite her being more than twice his age (and being four years off being three times his age).
* ProudWarriorRaceGuy: Tries his damnedest to be one, but he seems to be too much of a dork to actually be this.
* PsychoSerum: [[spoiler:Like his mother]], he drinks shade-of-the-evening.
* StalkerWithACrush: Behaves this way towards Koakuma, which merely amuses her.
* UnreliableNarrator: Regarding the history of Noros. Patchouli tries to set him straight on this, and later Koakuma also.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: His blurting out [[spoiler:at the Small Council that Koakuma would be an attractive prospect for Remilia's heir]] leads to what is presumed to be [[spoiler:another war of rebellion]].
