The sequel does modernize him a bit, as he now watches TV, has automatic shutters in his home (which open and close at the push of a button), and his throne room looks less archaic (though he still has the odd medieval knick-knack here and there). He even gives his brides proper coffins as opposed to the stone slabs they slept on in the first movie.

Los Angeles itself is just a hunting ground to him. Considering the way he smiles when he does his deeds, he clearly enjoys being a vampire.

This is showcased when he's set to go after Erica for the second and final time. Gazing out from his window in human form as he looks up at the moon during a storm. After a cut away, when it returns to him, he's in vamp face.

Yorga comes from a time of old royalty, likely the medieval era: a time when magics were a common thing, when ways were more strict and people were more loyal to their kings/leaders. His anachronistic attitude makes him stick out in the modern era because he doesn't try to blend in with the current times. This is reflective of both his home life and how he goes about his vampirism: the mansion is just another castle to him, those he turns adhere to his ways, and he uses the fictionalization of vampire lore to his advantage to go about his deeds.
