[[caption-width-right:350:''"Fun fact: our mission was to PREVENT the storm from happening. So... onto plan B!"'']]

-->Voiced by: Creator/AshlyBurch

The showrunner for Homebase, a facility built to prevent the mysterious storm from destroying the Earth. [[ForegoneConclusion It didn't work.]] Ray, as well as her fellow bots, were created by the famed Dr. Vinderman to support the commander of Homebase... who never showed up. Since you were the only human handy at the moment, that role falls onto you. Lucky you.
----
* BumblingSidekick: A weird combination of this and HypercompetentSidekick. On one hand, she runs all the semantics of your base, including shelter, food, etc. On the other, she makes such hilariously dumb mistakes as converting every single combat unit into a SEE-BOT, and[[spoiler: [[IdiotBall throwing out the SEE-BOT that very clearly states he is actually Dr. Vinderman.]]]] Despite this, the game makes it very clear that Homebase would be in complete shambles if it weren't for her.
* TheLeader: Technically, you are the leader, but Ray handles just about everything pertaining to the plot behind the scenes while you act as the muscle.
* HeroicSacrifice: Plans on [[spoiler:sacrificing herself to set off the remote bomb to seal off the Storm King at the climax of the main campaign. However, at the last second, Desiree takes her place, telling Ray that she's the only one with the chops to run Homebase.]]
* KryptoniteFactor: Played for laughs - regular fridge magnets can cause Ray to get confused and slip into French. Spending too much time away from Homebase leads to the effects being "stoned" and "Spanish" instead.
* ReplacementGoldfish: One made by Dr. Vinderman to replace Desiree after the two had a falling out. [[spoiler: Except not really, Ray actually developed her personality on her own, basing it off of Desiree's since Ray looked up to her so much.]]
* RobotBuddy: Very friendly, if a bit ditzy at times, and your main support throughout the game.
* MissionControl: While quite a few other characters fill this role at different times, Ray acts as this for the majority of the missions and quests.
* ParentalSubstitute: PlayedForLaughs, she's basically acting as the mother figure to all the other robots at Homebase. Once she realizes this, she has a miniature freak-out.
* PerkyFemaleMinion: Well, she is a robot, but she’s programmed with a female personality and is extremely perky, to say the least.
* PromotedToPlayable: Gets her own Hero skin, allowing her to take the field like everyone else.

[[caption-width-right:350:Books can do ''anything''.]]

An enigmatic man of many talents, the primary of which being leadership. Highly charismatic, he's in charge of running your survivor squads.
----
* BaldOfAuthority: Sports a close-shorn hairdo, and due to his background in office administration, organizes the survivors.
* ByTheBookCop: To extreme lengths. He ''fires himself'' after the Love Storm causes him to fall in love and create a problematic workplace relationship.
** On that note, the books he seemingly pulls this information from seem to be sentient, at one point ''responding'' to Ray's direct inquiries.
* IncrediblyLameFun: Considers seminars and workshops to be the ultimate vacation.
* OnlySaneMan: Plays himself off like this, but being around him for any length of time reveal he's a bit... [[SeriousBusiness weird.]]
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: He's not a werewolf, but a "business-wolf", who commits such vile acts as [[PokeThePoodle initiating a pyramid scheme and creating a cryptocurrency scam.]] He tries to corrupt Dire into following in the business-wolf ways, to no avail.
* PromotedToPlayable: Eventually made into a Constructor-class hero.
[[/folder]]

-->Voiced by: Creator/EliasToufexis

A no-nonsense military major, he whips your Heroes into shape.
----
* AnArmAndALeg: His left hand has been replaced with what appears to be a fork and knife, crafted by Lok (presumably a LifeOrLimbDecision).
* DrillSergeantNasty: When he's on the job, though he's not incapable of being vulnerable.
* PromotedToPlayable: As of February 2021 he's a new Soldier (but of course).
* SergeantRock: Despite being a Major, which is an officer several ranks higher.
* ShellShockedVeteran: At first, it seems like this is played for laughs, with his overly-dramatic anecdotes and hardass personality, but [[spoiler: a heart to heart with Lok reveals he was pretty shaken up by his experiences in the military, including being abandoned by his comrades behind enemy lines. What really hurt him, however, was when his PTSD created a rift between him and his wife, resulting in their divorce.]]
* VisualPun: His hook hand is actually a fork and a knife. [[TitleDrop Forknife.]]

->'''Voiced by:''' Victoria Atkin

A weaponsmith in charge of running the armory at Homebase.
----
* GadgeteerGenius: Has multidisciplinary knowledge of weapons, from firearms, rocket launchers, swords, giant rocket hammers, you name it, and she can build it.
* PromotedToPlayable: During Chapter 2, Season 4.
* WrenchWench: She graces the armory menu, due to being in charge of upgrading weapons.
[[/folder]]

-->Voiced by: Creator/FredTatasciore

Former guitarist for the band/scientist collective Steel Wool. He acts as the primary field researcher at Homebase, conducting studies in his van/weather balloon hybrid. Also, he plays a mean riff.
----
* ActionSurvivor: He's not much of a fighter, and he'll spend the entirety of "Ride the Lightning" missions hiding in his van, but he ''did'' survive on his own out in the storm for quite a while before you picked him up, and he spends most of his time on the front lines of the storm gathering data. This contrasts with his bandmates, who are all badasses in their own right.
* NonActionGuy: The only member of Steel Wool that isn’t playable.
* TheSmartGuy: All of Steel Wool (yes, even [[DitzyGenius Anthony]]) are this, but in terms of story he's the primary example among your crew.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Lok]]
[[quoteright:256:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lok_3.png]]

-->Voiced by: Creator/TomKane
An earthquake detection robot stationed at Homebase. He found a "TV Announcer" voice pack during Season 4, and became more involved in the plot as a result.
----
* AscendedExtra: Originally a background character that only communicated in beeps and boops, he [[SuddenlyVoiced started talking]] in Season 4 and was integrated into the main campaign.
* CassandraTruth: Multiple times.
** He was the only one who knew about Kevin the Cube before it made itself known. Everyone assumed the cube was just a figment of his imagination.
** He is able to see Willow without any problems, but nobody believes him when he talks about her. Makes you wonder what, exactly, his "earthquake detection" sensors are capable of.
* {{Manchild}}: Granted, he probably ''is'' pretty young in terms of age, but his deep, masculine voice contrasts heavily with his childish tendencies.
* PutOnABus: The Robo-Ray questline reveals that he was sent to boarding school.[[note]]The real reason being that Tom Kane had suffered a stroke and cannot voice him anymore.[[/note]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Dennis]]
-->Voiced by: Creator/DamienHaas
Former Durr Burger fry cook, and one of the first civilians rescued by the heroes of HOMEBASE. Despite his simple nature, he quickly becomes an important part of the team.
----
* AscendedExtra: Originally one of the "trading card" Survivors used for an NPC, Dennis grew astoundingly popular with the player base, even getting bumped all the way up to playable character.
* BurgerFool: He's always in his Durr Burger uniform. It's more of a subversion as burger-making is SeriousBusiness for him.
* DoggedNiceGuy: Is one to the unseen Summer, another survivor somewhere inside of Homebase.
* HiddenDepths: He's actually good enough at burger making to be the TeamChef. The Blockbuster questline reveals that Durr Burger is utilising a new burger-making AI that may or may not turn sentient and then take over the world, so Dennis comes up with a burger recipe that's got so many variables that he can delay the AI from taking that path.
* SadClown: Originally existing just to be an object of ridicule, Dennis is later revealed to be stricken with chronic depression, bad enough that the Storm can target him to make an EvilTwin, an effect that's never happened before with anybody.
* ThisLoserIsYou: Looks to be his primary contribution to the story... at first.
[[/folder]]

!![=Heroes=]

The PlayerCharacters, these are the people you are commanding and send out on missions. They are split into four classes: Soldiers, Constructors, Ninjas, and Outlanders, each with their own specialty roles and perks, with the base variants of each class coming in [[TasteTheRainbow four (non-specific) races (Hispanic, Caucasian, African-American, and Asian)]] for both males and females. Due to the nature of the game, only heroes that play an active role in questlines and unique/mythic heroes will be listed here.

![=Unique Heroes=]

[[folder: Syd]]
-->Voiced by: Creator/MatthewMercer
The vocalist for Steel Wool. Ray has a ''massive'' crush on him.
----
* BadassBiker: All leather, all the time.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Carlos]]
Bassist for Steel Wool. He was with Desiree during their bid to find Vinderman.
----
* WalkingShirtlessScene: He's got the John Rambo look down pat.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Anthony]]
Steel Wool's drummer. He's got some self-esteem issues that run deep.
----
* AllDrummersAreAnimals: The drummer of Steel Wool, and going by his adventures in the desert he might be clinically insane (or at least under the influence of certain medications.)
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Carbide]]
Spitfire's SuperpoweredAlterEgo, given the power to shoot lasers from a meteor.
----
[[/folder]]

[[folder: The Cloaked Star]]
An extremely edgy ninja. Also the head of the Ninja Coalition, a union that advocates balance changes for ninjas.
----
* TheLostLenore: He's been on a RoaringRampageOfRevenge against the husks after they got his wife.
* StealthHiBye: Keeps getting Ray with these, and not just in the Blockbuster event.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Raven]]
College-educated creepy guy in a raven-themed costume. A TerseTalker, but shockingly well-read.
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: Despite debuting in the Blockbuster summer event, he only gets actual focus in the Bladey Acres Halloween event.
* HiddenDepths: After TheReveal that the slashers in Bladey Acres were usually victims of bullying BackFromTheDead, Raven goes the extra length to explain just ''why'' TeensAreMonsters.
-->"They're being sent by their parents into the woods for 4 months. ''You don't do that to the ones you want to keep.''"
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Dire]]
A human-turned-werewolf. Very socially awkward, but friendly enough if you ignore his instinctive desire to eat people. Also, Dennis has him on speed dial, ''just in case''.
----
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Crackshot]]
A truly unfortunate soul whose entrapment in a nutcracker costume has given him a severely unhealthy fixation on Christmas. Definitely NOT a furry, [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial stop asking.]]
----
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Sgt. Winter]]
-->Voiced by: Creator/DarinDePaul
Seems like good old Saint Nicholas got spared by the storm, after all. You better watch out.
----
* BadassSanta: Though it's hard to tell with so much of his Santa-centric garb replaced with military gear.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Ted]]
A toy designer who's forced to flee into the storm when his own creations come alive and hunt him down.
----
* MaybeMagicMaybeMundane: You could chalk up the toys coming alive to being an effect of the storm - except that Ted clearly designed them that way, long before the storm, and isn't as freaked out as he ought to be. Then he does it again when he creates Monks, with no explanation of how he's made a new ninja for Homebase out of scraps.
* MustHaveCoffee: Not only overworked and sleep deprived by design, but his default back bling is a coffee machine.
* NerdGlasses: In a backdated square-rimmed style, deliberately modelled on [[Film/AChristmasStory Ralphie.]]
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: Apparently the whole reason his career fizzled out the last time was from building all of his characters in this fashion. It went over so badly that they actually call him out on it. Then in the "Red Willow's Eve" event ''[[AesopAmnesia he does it again.]]''
* PermaStubble: To better reflect his long-suffering overworked nature.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Willow]]
One of many denizens of the Oakdirge Lodge, only the third most haunted hotel in Stoneplankentwine.
----
* DeadpanSnarker: Apparently as a coping mechanism.
* StringyHairedGhostGirl[=/=]CreepyDoll: She can appear as either. Also her back bling is an actual doll.
* VoiceOfTheLegion: Since her normal voice is rather similar to Ray, she's had to rely on this ability several times.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Dennis Jr]]
The collapse of time on the Battle Royale island had far reaching consequences, resulting in this guy's appearance in STW.
----
* BrickJoke: During the ''Blockbuster'' event, [[spoiler:Dennis binged on all of his old action movies, and started getting delusions that the Durr Burger burger-making AI would go berserk in the future, and his son would lead the uprising against the KillerRobot legions. Dennis Jr is that son.]]
* KidFromTheFuture: [[spoiler:If it's not obvious enough from the name...]]
* SomeoneToRememberHimBy: [[spoiler:Due to Dennis being long dead in his time.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Blakebeard and Keelhaul]]
A pair of self-styled pirates who cause a ruckus in the Scurvy Shoals region, in their quest for a treasure that only they even know about.
----
* CaptainColorbeard: PlayedForLaughs when Director has to tell Blakebeard to his face that the name Blakebeard ''doesn't even make sense.''
* GhostPirate: [[spoiler:Blakebeard was KilledOffscreen at some point before "Yarr Returns!"]]
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: Keelhaul is literally a pirate ninja.
* ThePiratesWhoDontDoAnything: They're really more like emo kids that turned pirate instead of emo, hoping to live up to their father's legacy. [[spoiler:Except ''he wasn't a real pirate either'', and his "legacy" was a geocaching game he was keen on.]]
* ReimaginingTheArtifact: Blakebeard started out as the BR skin Blackheart, and introduced to STW in "Yarr!" with no explanation for how you could still evolve him into his GhostPirate form. [[spoiler:In "Yarr! Returns" he gets KilledOffForReal.]]
* SiblingTeam: They're brother and sister.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Cpt Azalea Clark]]

-->Voiced by: Creator/AllegraClark

The stalwart starship captain from ''Beyond the Stellar Horizon'' - a tv show.
----
* ButIPlayOneOnTV
* TheDanza: Shares a last name with her voice actress.
* RobotBuddy: She comes with one, a floating ultra-modern version of the Homebase robots called Z.A.P.
[[/folder]]

![=Base Heroes=]

[[folder:Jonesy]]

[[caption-width-right:350:[[EmoteAnimation I don't know what I've been told, something... Something... Whatever, I'm great!]]]]
-->Voiced by: Brian T. Delaney
The male Caucasian soldier. Seems to be cripplingly insecure about his masculinity.
----
* LargeHam: Which is surprising, given his voice actor's most famous role is the stoic protagonist of ''[[VideoGame/Fallout4 Fallout 4]]''.
* OfficialCouple: Started dating Sarah during the Love Storm 2019 event.
* SeriesMascot: Expect to see Jonesy's face on any given ''Fortnite'' promo.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ramirez]]

[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/commando_sidewinder_ramirez_rare_playstation.png]]
[[caption-width-right:300:[[EmoteAnimation En-list-ed!]]]]
-->Voiced by: Creator/AdriaArjona

The Hispanic-Female Soldier, and the first character you control.
----
* ActionGirl
* DemotedToExtra: Due to complications with scheduling her voice actress, Ramirez has pretty much fallen out of the plot entirely, her role in story missions now filled by Major Oswald.
* DrillSergeantNasty: Acts as one to whip the Plank Harbor survivors into shape.
* SeriesMascot: Along with Jonesy, most promotional art for ''Fortnite'' will have the two either by themselves or together.
* SpicyLatina: Although her race is only referenced exactly once, when she jokingly asks a survivor to repeat her instructions in Spanish.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Spitfire]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/soldier_hid_commando_gcgrenade_r.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:[[EmoteAnimation Beast mode! Hit it!]]]]
-->Voiced by: Keston John
The African-American male soldier. Very unique in that he [[OnlySaneMan actually has his head screwed on straight.]]
----
* OnlySaneMan: It's like they took a normal human being and chucked them into the weird world of ''Fortnite'' just to see how they would react. Poor guy has to put up with a lot of antics during the Blockbuster questline.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Penny]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tank_rare_portrait.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:[[EmoteAnimation Watch this jig, funky!]]]]
-->Voiced by: Creator/AmyPemberton
The Caucasian female constructor. British.
----
* BigBeautifulWoman: Just ask her 8 or so previous partners.
* ADayInTheLimelight: The "Match Maker" Halloween questline involves Penny playing Frankenstein and making a new hero, "Arrlene" Izza.
* IAmVeryBritish: But don't ask her to say "aluminum" for you.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Kyle]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/constructor_hid_constructor_rushbase_sr.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:[[EmoteAnimation OHO! MY MONEYMAKER! IIIIIIIIIIIIITS SHAKING! OH, CAN'T STOP NOW!]]]]
-->Voiced by: Dave Boat
The Caucasian male constructor. Very friendly and very loud.
* BigBeautifulMan: Just ask Eagle Eye.
* ExpyCoexistence: Due to a Santa-themed recolor of Kyle existing at the same time as a proper BadSanta hero.
* LargeHam: You may want to turn your game sound down if you are planning on using emotes as him.
* OfficialCouple: He and Eagle Eye started dating during the Love Storm 2019 event.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Sarah]]
The Caucasian female ninja.
----
* GirlishPigtails: Of the short and punky variety.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Of the {{Tsundere}} variety. [[spoiler:After learning about her future with Dennis, she starts treating him a little better.]]
* SurpriseIncest: [[spoiler:She was briefly crushing on Dennis Jr before the truth got out.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Ken]]
The African-American male ninja.
----
* MeaningfulName: "Ken" can mean "sword" in Japanese. And he's a ninja.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: Revealed to have played one on tv in "Beyond The Stellar Horizon". [[OldShame And not willingly.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Jess]]
[[quoteright:340:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pathfinder_legendary.png]]
[[caption-width-right:340:[[EmoteAnimation Can't deny the rhythm. I've tried.]]]]
-->Voiced by: Creator/EdenRiegel
The Caucasian female outlander.
----
* HeroicComedicSociopath: The "No Dancing" questline involves suppressing the Love Storm from the previous year by spreading "anti-love" or depression and general anti-social sentiment throughout Homebase. Jess takes to it way too easily.
-->"Do what you love!"
* ShoutOut: Her Halloween costume, [[Film/{{Beetlejuice}} Beetle-Jess.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Hawk]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/soldier_hid_commando_007_uc.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:[[EmoteAnimation Look at me, husks! I'm dancing on your graves!]]]]
The Hispanic male soldier.
----
* DreadlockWarrior
* LatinLover: The whole point of the Dashing Hawk variant.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Quinn]]
The African-American female Outlander.
----
* MeaningfulName: The "Hit the Road" event gives Quinn ADayInTheLimelight, and introduces a new variant, ''Main Stage'' Quinn.
