!The Main Family

The current acting head of the Most Noble and Ancient House of Black, and the father of Sirius and Regulus.
----
* AbusiveParents: He openly expresses contempt to his eldest son, whom he calls a worthless disgrace, and ignores Regulus in favour of hounding Sirius into discipline.
* AuthoritativeInPublicDocileInPrivate: He's the head of one of the most influential families in Britain, so he's used to give unspoken orders to other people, and he fully expects them to beck and call at his whims. Within his family circle, however, he's known to be somewhat a pushover. His father regards him as passive, weak-willed and indulgent, and his wife described him as "having no mind of his own".
* BerserkButton: Bringing up his father's poor treatment of him is one of the most surefire ways to drive him into a rage.
* Deuteragonist: He receives the most CharacterDevelopment besides Sirius, as he learns to let go of his old prejudices and habits in order to better understand his family and protect them as a father should, while keeping the whole thing a secret to his Pureblood circle, and especially his own father, Arcturus.
* DefrostingIceKing: Orion is well-known for being aloof and cold-hearted, even by the standards of his family, that even his wife and children don't always know what to make of him. The discovery that his youngest son is an ex-Death Eater, the family's sudden reunion with his wayward eldest, and all the baggage that comes with it forces him to be more honest with his family about his feelings and give them the affection and encouragement they need if he doesn't want to lose them.
* DontYouDarePityMe: He doesn't appreciate Dumbledore asking about his well-being and showing concern for his declining health, and snaps at the older man to stay out of his personal affairs.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: For the acting head of one of the most noble families in the Wizarding Britain, Orion has little to no control over his own family. His father bullies him, his sister teases him, his wife constantly argues with him, and his eldest son clearly hates him and openly wishes for his death.
* TheDutifulSon: Orion always caves in to his father's desire over everything else, and this becomes a point of contention with his wife when Orion decides to obey Arcturus's orders against her own interests.
* FollowInMyFootsteps: He's determined to bring Sirius back into the family as its future patriarch.
* GentlemanAndAScholar: He's a studious man with refined manners, and is known for his love for books.
* GentlemanSnarker: Unlike his wife, Orion rarely raises his voice or lose composure, but he does have a talent for "elegant, cutting remarks" to express his distaste otherwise.
* HenpeckedHusband: His father accuses him for indulging his wife's whims too much, and Orion does usually let her make the decisions in the family, and only stepping in if her wishes clashes against his father's. Sirius also seems to think that Walburga rules the household in his stead (he refers to Walburga as the Queen, and Orion her Prince Consort). It helps that Walburga is 4 years older than Orion.
* HiddenHeartOfGold: Dumbledore surmises that behind his coldly calculating mask, Orion does care a great deal for his sons, and is willing to risk his life to keep them safe, but he prefers to do it without the knowledge of the relevant parties involved.
* HonorThyParent: Orion will never speak a word against his father, and insists on giving the man the respect he is due, even though he isn't particularly fond of him. In the past, his cousin Alphard would frequently try to get him speak ill of Arcturus and finds amusement in the creative ways Orion would deflect the bait without resorting to telling an outright lie.
* InsecureLoveInterest: He believes that Walburga only married him out of family obligation and would have preferred to marry Lysander Yaxley instead. It wasn't until Sirius pointed out how ridiculous this notion is that he might even consider otherwise.
* ObliviouslyBeautiful: Like Sirius, Orion was considered quite the "catch" of his day, being a handsome man from a distinguished family; and, if Alan Rowle's remarks are to be believed, many witches are still "holding the torch" for him now. But unlike his son, Orion doesn't seem to notice the fact or take a full advantage of it, having decided to marry Walburga at twelve years old, and had never considered anyone else. He is quite perplexed when Walburga tells him how a lot of girls wanted to marry him in his youth.
* ParentalNeglect: Since he never had any problems with Regulus, he never granted much attention to his youngest. It backfires on him.
* PerfectlyArrangedMarriage: His father appointed Walburga to be his wife, but since Orion is already in love with her, he's perfectly fine by it.
* TheQuietOne: Downplayed. As the acting head of his family, Orion is capable of carrying out lengthy conversations when necessary, but both his wife and sister note that he's not a talker by nature, and can spend hours without saying a single word.
* SecretlyDying: He has a heart disease that's slowly killing him, and no one else in the family knows about it.
* SiblingYinYang: His dynamic with his sister Lucretia is similar to Sirius and Regulus's. Lucretia is a headstrong and rebellious meddler with a penchant for gossiping, while Orion is dutiful, reserved and rarely speaks out of turn.
* SingleTargetSexuality: Apparently, he's been in love with Walburga ever since he was twelve and has never looked another way since.
* SoProudOfYou:
** His unexpected reaction to Sirius achieving the Animagus transformation while he was barely fifteen years old, and on his own.
** He finally drops property to say that to Regulus in Chapter 28.
* TheStoic: Orion is unflappable and always maintains an impassive expression that people can rarely tell what he's thinking or feeling. This causes a lot of problems in his relationship with his family, especially with his eldest son, and his wife.
--> Lucretia: You know, I think that's the real reason other wizards rarely warm up to you, 'Rion. They never know what you really think--and probably assume the worst.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Underneath his cold and autocratic exterior, Lucretia says that Orion had inherited their mother's soft heart. The reader gets a rare glimpse of this tender side of him in chapter 22 when Orion brushes his wife's hair with more gentleness than she would use upon herself.
* TroubledAbuser: He is emotionally cold and distant towards his children, and frequently uses insults, emotional manipulation and blackmail to keep Sirius in line. However, it is pretty much stated that for all Orion's faults as a parent, his own father, Arcturus had been worse.
* TheUnfavorite: He admits in chapter 28 that he envies Lucretia because their father adores her.
* WellDoneDadGuy: Orion often says that he doesn't care what Sirius thinks about him, and only wants his wayward son to toe in line with the family rule to keep him from bringing more shame to their esteemed household. However, his conversation with Phineas Nigellus shows that he really does craves his son's respect, and he often has to restrain himself from physically harming Sirius even when he really wants to because he doesn't want Sirius to "confirm all his worst assumptions about his father".
* WellDoneSonGuy: Even as an adult, Orion never stops trying to win his father's approval and favour, to no avail.
* Workaholic: Orion spends most of his time locked up in his study, and even during the family Christmas party (which he's hosting), he prefers to seclude himself in the study to work on the logistics and finances of the event instead of socialising with his family. His father seems to take advantage of this, and makes Orion do all the work he finds beneath him, and take credit for it.

The infamous "disinherited child" of the House of Black who has scandalously ran away from the family 3 years prior to the story. Despite circumstances bringing him back to his family's radar, Sirius is determined to free himself from his duties as his family's heir.
----
* BigBrotherBully: A mild version, but Sirius is often mean to his little brother, belittling him for the latter's TheDutifulSon mindset, and getting angry with him when Regulus refuses to play along with his rebellious schemes. Sirius acknowledges that he had treated Regulus quite poorly in the past, and regrets it, even if he hasn't been able to bring himself to apologize yet.
* BirdsOfAFeather: He is drawn towards Colette as they are both heirs to old and distinguished Pureblood families who doesn't fit in their lofty standards.
* BrokenAce: Sirius is handsome, charming, popular, and is able to effortlessly ace in most of his school subjects. Despite everything going for him, he actually harbour a lot of self-esteem issues due to his status as the family's black sheep and constantly being treated as a disappointment by his parents.
* CantActPervertedTowardALoveInterest: Despite his reputation of being a Casanova who has been romantically involved with pretty much every pretty girl in Hogwarts, Sirius treats his LoveInterest, Colette, with an unprecedented chivalry and prudishness. Regulus is surprised that he hasn't kissed her yet, despite having taken her out on 3 dates.
* TheCharmer: Sirius is very naturally likable, and even his mother says that he can "charm the scales of a dragon".
* DatingWhatDaddyHates: A way for him to antagonize his mother is hinting he's sleeping with Muggle women. Subverted with Colette Battancourt, as he believes Walburga disapproves while she encourages the relationship.
* DisinheritedChild: Subverted. Sirius believed that his father disinherited him the moment he ran away, and so does the rest of the world, but it turns out he's still legally the heir.
* EmbarrassingInitials: His full name's initials spell out "sob", which earns him an EmbarrassingNickname from his aunt, who calls him exactly that. He later complains about it to his mother when she makes him wear a robe embroidered with his initials.
--> Sirius: When you named me, you'd think you'd have a bit more concern about the unfortunate connotations of my initials.
* HeCleansUpNicely: He enjoys slumming out by dressing as a Muggle, but Lily is stunned when she sees him wearing high-quality robes. It is said that the aristocratic wear suits him much better than his usual Muggle gear, as despite his dissociation from his family, Sirius still carries a noble disposition that is practically tailored for the finer style of the upper class.
* IAmNotMyFather: Sirius goes out of his way to stand against his family's bigoted and narrow-minded views on blood-purity and legacy. He especially loathes being compared to Orion, who pretty much embodies the family's values, which unfortunately happens more often than he'd like due to their StrongFamilyResemblance. spoiler:Subverted in chapter 31, which reveals that Sirius actually thinks quite highly of his father and is insecure about the fact that he can't be like him--but rather than try and fail to step in line with the program, he chooses to rebel in order to gain Orion's attention.
* LadykillerInLove: Sirius has always been popular with the ladies, and takes full advantage of it. However, he finds himself genuinely interested with Colette, and Remus is surprised with how little Sirius is willing to discuss her, despite his tendency to brag about his "conquests".
* MenCantKeepHouse: He claims he's far too busy fighting a war when his brother expresses horror at the rat droppings in his flat.
* MommasBoy: His "boyish fear of his mother" is apparently well-known even to his teachers, and he certainly sees her in a higher place of authority than he does his father. When describing his parents in royal terms, Sirius would refer to Walburga as "her majesty", and Orion her "prince consort".
* NeverMyFault: Sirius is not one to admit his mistakes, especially when his family is concerned, and sees himself as a victim of their oppression. After the debacle in the Malfoy Manor, he blames Colette and his father for his failed mission (because they caught him), even though he would have been discovered and likely tortured and killed by the Death Eaters (who already knew he was coming due to Peter passing the information to Malfoy) if not for their interference. He also never apologizes to Regulus whenever the two of them fight, and usually just waits until his brother gets tired of being angry with him. Both Remus and Dumbledore suggest that he starts apologizing to his family for his slights.
* RebelPrince: Sirius is born as heir to the Black family, but doesn't want the role. He's even compared to a runaway crown prince.
* RejectingTheInheritance: After finding out that his parents never officially disown him, Sirius makes every effort to make himself legally disinherited.
* SiblingYinYang: His relationship with Regulus is very difficult because Sirius himself is completely wild and dramatic while Regulus is much more passive and laid-back.
* SpoiledBrat: Discussed. Both Andromeda and Regulus state that Sirius is spoiled and the reason he's allowed to get away with many of his childhood antics is because the rest of his clan indulges on his whims due to his status as the family's heir. However, Sirius denies that he is spoiled, and claims that his family's lavish attentions only mean more scolding and punishments.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Many people have remarked on how much he looks like Orion.
* SweetTooth: Quite enjoys his Danishes.
* TrueLoveIsExceptional: Claims he enjoys blondes with loose morals. However, he ends up falling in love with BrainyBrunette and ProperLady Colette Battancourt.
* UnexpectedVirgin: Sirius has dated lots of girls during his school days, and he likes to brag about his "conquests" to his peers afterwards, but it is revealed that his past flings had never gone beyond kissing, and his views on marriage and romance are surprisingly conservative.
* UnreliableNarrator: He depicts his family as a bunch of Dark-worshiping abusers. Reality shows it's much more gray than that.

Regulus's younger brother. A reformed Death Eater who very narrowly escaped death after stealing one of Voldemort's Horcrux, and is now hiding in his estranged brother's home.
----
* BewareTheQuietOnes: Regulus tends to be ignored or taken for granted by everyone, even his own family. Then he goes and commits outright rebellion against the Dark Lord, and brings about a great upheaval to the rest of his family's lives.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Inverted as he's the younger child, but Regulus didn't turn against Voldemort merely because of Kreacher's mistreatment - it also was because the Dark Lord ordered him to eliminate Sirius for opposing the Death Eaters.
* CowardlyLion: Regulus isn't naturally brave, being more of a submissive and NervousWreck nature. He still managed to snatch one of Voldemort's Horcruxes right under his nose and outright called Dumbledore out for endangering his family.
* TheDutifulSon: Unlike Sirius, Regulus always does whatever his parents tells him.
* ExtremeDoormat: He's very quiet and timid, and usually gets dragged by Sirius into whatever mischief his older brother came up with, but otherwise does whatever his parents tell him to do.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Regulus is TheDutifulSon who always obey what his parents tell him to do. Sirius tends to do the exact opposite, to the point that Walburga has to employ ReversePsychology to get him do what she wants.
* GuiltyPleasures: While Regulus initially refuses to even consider watching television--because his upbringing dictates that some "Muggle contraption" is beneath him--in later chapters he's found secretly watching shows when no one else is in the room.
* GreenEyedMonster:
** He expresses jealousy against his brother when he sees the painstaking amount of effort their mother expends in order to set up Sirius with Colette. Justified, considering how much attention Orion and Walburga had given their eldest son ever since their reunion, while almost forgetting about Regulus, despite the fact that he's almost died just the week before.
** Lily also suggests a huge part of his hostility towards James comes from the young man's much closer proximity with Regulus' own brother.
* LikeFatherLikeSon: Many people have commented on how much Regulus's personality takes after his father. Both are emotionally reserved, passive and obedient to a fault; but they both are fiercely devoted to the people they love and are willing to make great sacrifices to protect their family, although they prefer to act in secret.
* NiceToTheWaiter: The only one in the main Black family who thinks the house-elf might have feelings of his own, and frequently dotes on Kreacher and cares for him as though he's a beloved pet. Several scenes during the family dinner show Regulus secretly feeding Kreacher food crumbs from under the table.
* ProperlyParanoid: He insists for no one in the Order to know about his defection as he strongly suspects a mole. As Pettigrew has been subverted, it was the right call.
* SpareToTheThrone: Since his brother never actually was disowned, Regulus was this all along. He's perfectly okay with it, and Orion confesses he never changed his will and disowned Sirius partially because of that.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Colette notes that Regulus looks like Orion a fair bit, although their resemblance is not as pronounced as the similarity between Sirius and his father. Andromeda also says that he looks a lot like their uncle Alphard.
* SweetTooth: Just like his elder brother, Regulus really enjoys cake and other pastries.
* TraumaButton: His mother accidentally triggers a flashback of the Inferi trying to drown him when she runs a bath, as she remembered he loved it.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Sirius bluntly suggests, and Regulus later confirms, that the younger Black son joined the Death Eaters because he genuinely believed his parents would approve. Orion finally admitting he's quite proud of Regulus actually reduces the young man to tears.

Sirius and Regulus's mother. Wife and second cousin to Orion Black.
----
* CutenessProximity: Her husband and eldest son are completely befuddled when she coos over Sirius in her Animagus black dog shape.
* DeliberateValuesDissonance: Walburga still thinks about marriage as something arranged, with courtship and chaperones. Lily has to explain her the modern concept of dating, which completely nonplusses the older witch.
* EmbarrassingNickname: Lucretia still calls her by her childhood nickname, Burgie, which she detests. Although she never complains about it when talking to Lucretia, if only because it's probably pointless to get her to stop.
* EvilMatriarch: Subverted. Walburga is not the evil dragon Sirius likes to describe her as, and while she is very harsh, domineering, and, when pushed, dangerous, she genuinely believes that her interference to her son's life is what's best for him.
* GrandeDame: Extremely haughty, infamously authoritative and well-aware of her social status.
* JewishMother: Not actually Jewish, but she certainly wails over her eldest son living in a pigpen unbefitting of his bloodline and cavorting with loose women.
* TheMatchmaker: She believes the best way to teach Sirius responsibility is to marry him. And she wouldn't be opposed to arrange something for Regulus too.
* TheMedic: Her great expertise in Potions and Curses let her treat her eldest's injuries after he escaped five Death Eaters, and she continues to treat Regulus while he recuperates in Sirius's apartment.
* MyBelovedSmother: Walburga with Sirius and, to a lesser extent, Regulus. In her eyes, they're still children and as such can't be trusted with keeping their rooms clean, or dress properly, or even finding a good wife.
* TenderTears: She breaks her haughty mask and bursts into tears after meeting Sirius for the first time in three years.
* ShipperWithAnAgenda: She firmly believes her sons need to be married for them to learn responsibility. So when Sirius shows the slightest hint of interest towards Colette Battancourt, a French Pureblood witch from a well-known family, she immediately seizes the opportunity to push them towards each other.
* StayInTheKitchen: Zigzagged. She openly confesses she doesn't care for politics and finances, and leaves the big decisions to her husband, but she pretty much runs the household in other things, and Sirius believes that she--not Orion--is the one who rules the family.

!The Extended Black Family

The patriarch of the Black family. He's Orion's father, and Sirius's grandfather.
----
* AbusiveParents: He's dismissive and downright insulting towards his children. Also, Orion considers himself an indulgent father since he never hits his sons, which says a lot about Arcturus himself.
* DomesticAbuse: Implied. Lucretia says that Acturus used to bully his wife, and after her death, he turns to his children as his "consolation prize".
* HeManWomanHater: Arcturus makes no mystery of his contempt for the fair sex, outright insulting his daughter and daughter-in-law to their faces.
* Jerkass: Exceedingly pompous and domineering, he apparently relishes in terrorizing other people, including his own children. His own daughter is so ill-disposed towards him that she will make every effort to avoid spending time with him whenever possible.

The former matriarch of the Black family, the late mother to Orion and Lucretia and the late grandmother of Sirius and Regulus.
----
* AwfulWeddedLife: Strongly implied. Arcturus was mentioned to bully her, and it helped her to devolve into a NervousWreck.
* CoolCrown: A goblin-silver wrought one, weighing several pounds. She wears it for the Christmas Eve party.
* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest: The deceased Melania is the only one of Sirius's grandparents to be talked of in a positive light. The other living grandparents, Arcturus, Pollux and Irma are consistently described as irascible and overall unpleasant people.
* ExtremeDoormat: She lets her husband bully her, and she's more intimidated by her daughter-in-law, than the other way around. It's implied that her son Orion and grandson Regulus inherited the same disposition.
* FamilyEyeResemblance: Her grandson Regulus has her wide, dark brown eyes.
* GrandeDame: Not just due to her status as the matriarch of the Black Family, but to the wider Wizarding World as well.
* GrannyClassic: A regal example. She was the most demonstrative grandparent Sirius and Regulus had and Sirius, whose relationship with the rest of the Black family is incredibly strained, has nothing but kind things to say about her.
* IWasQuiteALooker: Was said to be the most beautiful witch of her generation, which is why Arcturus sought to marry her.
* NervousWreck: Her husband's domineering ways and the Black family's general unpleasantness reduced her to this.
* PosthumousCharacter: Melania is long dead when the main story starts.

Walburga, Alphard and Cygnus' father and the grandfather of Sirius, Regulus, Bellatrix, Andromeda and Narcissa. Married to Irma Crabbe.
----
* AwfulWeddedLife: His marriage to Irma is heavily implied to be this. They are always arguing with each other and love to disagree, almost like it is a game.

The wife of Pollux, mother of Walburga, Alphard and Cygnus, and the only-living grandmother of Sirius and Regulus.
----
* GrumpyOldMan: Gender inverted. She's deaf, domineering and rude, and is always shown to be screaming and complaining about someone whenever she shows up. She's pretty much the only person Walburga fears.

Orion's older sister, and a childhood friend of Walburga. Known for her headstrong personality, her love for gossip, and her tendency to shock her family with her callously frank attitude.
----
* AllWomenHateEachOther: This trope is discussed in one of Lucretia's monologues while she's thinking ill of her father and his "deep and profoundly offensive view that all women must, by the nature of their strange, feminine minds, secretly hate the others." Lucretia herself secretly agrees with his notions, although she considers herself and Walburga to be different from "those spiteful cats".
* BigSisterInstinct: She would usually defend Orion from their father's criticism because her brother won't speak a word against Arcturus. Later, she willingly invites her father to spend Christmas with her (after 15 years of avoiding his company altogether) so that Arcturus wouldn't interfere with Orion and Walburga's plans to spend the day with their sons.
* TheConfidant: She seems to be the only person Orion can honestly open up to, because she knows him best. She's also best friends with Walburga, and the two often "scheme" with each other.
* CoolAunt: Sirius holds a grudging respect towards his aunt for her brash outspokenness, though he's not overly fond of her due to her gossipy nature.
* DirtyOldWoman: She discusses her brother's sex life while attending a public event. She also flirts with much younger men despite being over 50 years old and married.
* FemaleMisogynist: She secretly agrees with her father's poor opinion of women and sees them as spiteful cats, although she considers herself and 'Burgie as exceptions to the rule.
* LooseLips: The main family can't trust her with their current difficulties since she's an unrepentant gossip.
* ManChild: Her flighty ways can appear childish, and the way she imagines herself sticking her tongue out to her father behind his back (although she didn't dare to actually do it) certainly demonstrates her immaturity.
* MarriageOfConvenience: She all but admits that she only marries Ignatius Prewett to get out of her father's thumb and not from any sort of affection towards her husband.
* TheNicknamer: To her family, at least. She calls Orion "'Rion", Walburga "'Burgie" and Sirius "Sob", which are nicknames all three have ought to outgrown.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Lucretia is rather jolly, enjoying to shock people and nose into their private businesses. Yet when her father visits her, she becomes downright submissive and fearful.
* TheTease: Like the rest of her family, Lucretia is quite a looker (even if she's not as beautiful as her mother), and she shamelessly flirts with anyone she takes a fancy to, including her own nephew (although she doesn't know it was him at that time), and Remus.

Walburga's youngest brother, and the father of Bellatrix, Andromeda and Narcissa.
----
* DirtyOldMan: He's first introduced putting the moves on a girl barely older than his daughters, despite being married.
* FatBastard: Downplayed. He's not evil on the same level than Voldemort, but he blatantly cheats on his wife and envies his relatives. As for his figure, Alphard notes that his diet and drinking habits had noticeably thickened his middle.
* GreenEyedMonster: He doesn't like Orion and often badmouths him to his brother, Alphard. Alphard thinks it's because he's jealous of their cousin. He isn't overly fond of Alphard either, for being their parents' favorite despite his rebellious ways.
* TheUnfavorite: Despite being TheDutifulSon, his parents prefer the family's black sheep Alphard over him. Orion believes this is the reason why he's so resentful towards the other members of his fammily.

Walburga's deceased (and disinherited) younger brother who works as a writer when he was alive. He is Sirius's favourite uncle.
----
* CantLiveWithThemCantLiveWithoutThem: A platonic example towards his family. He finds himself succumbing to homesickness when WalkingTheEarth, only for his relatives' bickering to quickly get on his nerves and make him leave when he visits.
* ChildHater: Downplayed. He doesn't loathe his nephews and nieces, but doesn't see the appeal of interacting with them unless they happen to develop an interesting personality.
* ConfirmedBachelor: Alphard never marries, because he's got too much of a wanderlust to settle down in one place with a family.
* CoolUncle: He's one of the few people in the family that Sirius actually likes, and he was the one to left Sirius with the money he needed to live off on his own after his death.
* ADayInTheLimelight: The Prequel side-story, "The Black Sheep", is told through Alphard's POV as he tries to ease himself back into the family during their 1966 Christmas gathering after almost a year of absence.
* TheGadfly: He's a self-proclaimed provocateur who takes joy in annoying his younger brother, and trying to get his brother-in-law speak ill of his father.
* PetTheDog: In "The Black Sheep", he allows himself to get into trouble with Walburga and Orion by claiming that he had encouraged Sirius to visit him and even Confunded the nursemaid to do so, in order to protect his nephew from his mother's ire, and the nursemaid from being sacked. He surprises himself with his actions, as doing so gives him no benefit, and is OOCIsSeriousBusiness uncharacteristic of someone as selfish as he is.
* PosthumousCharacter: He's been dead for two years at the start of the series, but Sirius is still living off his wealth, and the HardTruthAesop he tells Sirius about the undeniable bonds of family is one of the main themes of the entire series.
* WalkingTheEarth: He spends most of his time traveling around the world, never staying in one place for more than several weeks, and apparently makes a living by writing travelogues.

Sirius's cousin, the youngest daughter of Walburga's brother Cygnus, who has married Lucius Malfoy some time before Sirius ran away. Is currently expecting a child, whom she plans to name Draco.
----
* DumbBlonde: She's one of the few Blacks who doesn't have dark hair, and is described by her sister as "silly and vain", although not malicious. She's more willfully ignorant than outright stupid though.
* TheFashionista: She's shown teaching Colette how to tastefully do her hair.
* TheMentor: She takes it upon herself to take Colette under her wing and teach her to become an esteemed member of the high society Wizarding Britain, and a suitable bride for the Black family.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: As a ProperLady, Narcissa often pretends to be clueless about anything beyond Housewife the domestic concerns. However, she actually knows more than she lets on: for example, when Lucius wants to rendezvous with his fellow Death Eaters on the day after Christmas under the pretense of business discussions, she retorts that there's no serious trade during the holiday seasons and demands to know why their "urgent" talk can't wait until after New Year.
* ProperLady: Narcissa is easily the most ladylike among her sisters (or, indeed, among the rest of her female relatives). She always takes great care to conduct herself with utmost decorum, and sticks herself to nothing but domestic concerns, as expected of a witch of her station. She expresses disapproval at Colette's curiosity and frankness, believing that it wouldn't endear her to her aunt and uncle.
* ShipperOnDeck: She believes Colette and Regulus would be perfect for each other, and explicitly brought Colette to England for this.
* SpoiledSweet: She's proud and vain like most of her family, but she's otherwise quite harmless (unlike her husband or her eldest sister). She seems to genuinely consider Colette as a friend, and tries to help her grow out from her shell.

Narcissa's second older sister who has been disinherited for marrying a Muggleborn. Sirius says that she's his favourite cousin.
----
* DisinheritedChild: Unlike Sirius, she well and truly was disowned by the Blacks at large. Apparently, within the family's entail, marrying a Muggle or Muggleborn automatically disinherits one from the clan.
* GoodIsNotNice: Having turned away from her family's bigoted views does not make Andromeda a NiceGirl. She retains her clan's characteristic haughty stubbornness, is derisive of Dumbledore, and behaves imperiously towards Colette when the two meet for the first time.
%%* GoodParents: For her young daughter Nymphadora.
* ICanChangeMyBeloved: Discussed. Andromeda muses that, had she not fallen in love with Ted Tonks all those years ago, she might actually go through with her ArrangedMarriage to Rabastan, and that she might even grow to love him and influence him to become a better man, as he wasn't the unsavory character then as he is now.
* RunawayBride: She was intended to marry Rabastan Lestrange, only for her to elope with Ted Tonks.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: She looks a lot like Bellatrix, and when she first comes to visit Regulus, he mistakes Andromeda as her older sister.

The eldest daughter of Cygnus Black, and the older sister to both Narcissa and Andromeda.
----
* BigBrotherBully: Well, Big Sister. One of Narcissa's flashback to her childhood shows Bellatrix taunting her youngest sister for being a crybaby for protesting against the winter cold, then throwing a snowball at her.
* BrokenPedestal: Implied. Walburga notes that as a child, Sirius practically worshipped Bella and tailed after her all the time. Of course, he no longer views her in such a high esteem now, and is offended by the idea that he ever had in the first place.
* TheCorrupter: She was the one who dragged her impressionable cousin Regulus into the Death Eaters, preying on his desire to please his parents.
* DaddysGirl: Cygnus apparently enjoys her willfulness and daring, seeing her as the son he would rather have than being saddled with three daughters.
* DynamicEntry: In chapter 26, she arrives at a party her cousin is hosting by blowing up the front door off of its hinges. Considering that this also marks her first in-person appearance in the story, it also serves as an EstablishingCharacterMoment to show her wild and uncontrollable streak.
* EvilCounterpart: To Sirius. Both are rebellious and headstrong, and breaks away from their family's usually restrained manners by their blatant disregard to the norms of courtesy or the opinions of others; but despite their disdain for their family, both still retain the haughty entitlement that their privilege and upbringing allows. However, unlike Sirius, Bellatrix is vicious and cruel who delights in causing harm to others. Sirius, despite his love for troublemaking, will not allow others to be harmed by his actions.
* TheGhost: Even though she's frequently discussed by the family, Bellatrix never appears in person in the story, until chapter 26, that is.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: The Black brothers cannot help but be incredulous when she doesn't appear to some social events, since she never was ill in her day and as such should attend.

A former patriarch of the Black family, and a former Headmaster at Hogwarts. Although deceased, Phineas Nigellus lives on as a painting on both Grimmauld Place number 12 and the Headmaster's office.
----
* AbusiveDad: He used to beat his son, Phineas, for being a "Muggle-loving blood traitor" and recommends Orion to do the same to his own sons.
* FullNameBasis: He's almost never referred to as just Phineas, it's always Phineas Nigellus, likely due to one of his sons having the same name.
* TheStoolPigeon: He tattles about Sirius and Orion's argument to Dumbledore, to both their annoyance.
