Context Characters / SunsetOverdrive

Go To

Though most of the population of Sunset City is dead or mutated in the wake of Horror Night, quite a few of them survived, with more than enough personality to spare.

[[foldercontrol]]

!Ex Fizzco Employees

Former workers of Fizzco, now working to bring down the beverage giant and expose their gigantic screw-up.
[[folder:The Player Character/"Jason" (in live-action trailer)]]
!!! '''Voiced by:''' Creator/YuriLowenthal (male choice), Creator/StephanieLemelin (female choice)
----
* AntiHero: Isn't the best of people, often threatening violence and swearing like a sailor, but has no compunctions committing heroic actions. [[spoiler:They even refuse to escape Sunset City once they receive a SOS call from Sam.]]
* ArmyOfOne: Especially notable during Night Defense missions where they have to fight endless hordes of the OD on their own.
* BookDumb: They're quick on their feet (both literally and figuratively) and capable of coming up with solutions on their own unless the problem requires specialized knowledge or skills, but anything complex or {{Technobabble}} loses or bores them out of their mind.
* CantHoldHisLiquor: The game's fast travel system involves them downing a single bottle of beer and getting so drunk they immediately pass out and wake up somewhere else in the city.
* CharacterCustomization: Has four body types (two per gender) and an array of facial options, hair styles and eye colors.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: Develops a nasty case of this during the course of the game. [[spoiler:They will even turn down a chance at escape to rescue the friends and allies they made earlier in the game]]
* CombatParkour: The player character is easily the most athletic character in the game, climbing up, bouncing off, and grinding to boost their movement speed and dodge enemies.
* DeadpanSnarker: They are one hell of a smartass.
* DeathIsASlapOnTheWrist: Is actively aware of the fact that they will always respawn when they die and has no fear of death as a result. [[spoiler: This reaches a point where they kill themselves doing something awesome at the finale, knowing they'll just come back no worse for wear.]]
* {{Eagleland}}: Why are they so good with guns? They're American, that's why.
* EveryoneKnowsMorse: In the cutscene after "Floating Garbage", a morse code message from Troop Bushido is translated after passing through the player's head.
* GenderFlip: If the player swaps their gender during character customization and leaves with the opposite gender, they will comment on it afterwards:
--> Easiest sex change ever!
* HiddenDepths: Despite acting like a flippant uncaring {{Jerkass}} with ComicBook/{{Deadpool}}-esque MediumAwareness near the start of the game The player considers themselves to have been an aimless drifter until Horror Night. Slowly they began to soften up to the people they met in their adventure, and [[spoiler:when Fizzco decides to [[DeadlyEuphemism "destroy the evidence"]] of their crimes, the player sacrifices their shot at cleanly escaping Sunset City to save them.]]
* HyperspaceArsenal: The player can store a vast gallery of different weapons and draw them out instantly and ready to go in just a split second.
** Just as Buck National hold the player at gunpoint with an assault rifle, they show off their [[RealTimeWeaponChange real time weapon change menu]] to show that they aren't defenseless.
** [[spoiler:When Wendy pulls out her pistol to show that she refuses to go back to Sunset City, the PC then pulls out '''''all''''' of her/his weapons at once, making it clear it's not a good idea to mess with the player.]]
* IRegretNothing: One of their possible quotes if their health becomes critical.
* IResembleThatRemark: The player is offended that someone assumes they would know where to find drugs. Of course, the player knows where to find drugs.
* IconicOutfit: The Sleepless Outfit for male player character (or if The Sleepless Outfit is locked before Chaos Squad, players can make like one but with a biker vest).
* InnocentlyInsensitive: One of the Catrina's asks you to find her missing father. She tells you his name is Hector and regale her with a tale of a raccoon you met who was also called Hector. You also regale her with a tale of how raccoon Hector died a horrifying death while she sobs over the phone.
* TheLadette: The female player character has an attitude, swears, can drink, and can dress just like male player characters. Their dialogue is also identical aside from the voice actors (which they blame on the writers being too lazy to write two different sets of dialogue).
* NoNameGiven: Their real name is never explicitly said. They don't even know what it is themselves. All they know is that it floats above their head in multiplayer, but they can't see what it is.
* LoserProtagonist: In the beginning, at least. They are stuck in a dead-end job for Fizzco as a custodian to a party they can't even participate in. This turns out to save him/her once the...[[ZombieApocalypse side effects]] of Overdrive become more apparent, and basically from that moment forward they get progressively more badass.
* MediumAwareness: They know damn well that they are the protagonist of a wacky action video game, and at least half their dialogue is just them lampshading every common video game trope featured in it.
* MrFanservice: Male player character without shirt shows his bare abs.
* MsFanservice: Female player character wears either tops that display her midriff or shorts/skirts that show off her legs. Bonus points for wearing her Troop Bushido uniform.
* MultiRangedMaster: From conventional guns to the weird weaponry cobbled up by Two-Hat Jack, there's no gun they cannot become proficient at wielding.
* NewsTravelsFast: Your exploits land you some fans. Just Kim even asks for your number because she's heard your stories.
* NoOneCouldSurviveThat: [[spoiler:And in many cases they ''don't'', [[GameplayAndStoryIntegration but they just respawn anyway]]]].
* OddFriendship: Builds numerous ones over the course of the game with everyone from absent-minded scientists, to a bunch of spoiled preppy kids to a troupe of [=LARPers=] and even a redneck TV show host. None of these people are ones the player character would have had anything to do with before Horror Night.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: The player is referred to by the Fargarthians as "Hero," and later, "Paladin." Esperanza, leader of the Las Catrinas, calls them "Pendejo/Pendeja." (Idiot, for male and females, respectively.)
* OnlySaneMan: Wouldn't be considered normal by any means, but the fact that they tend to fall into this role says a lot about the world of ''Sunset Overdrive.''
--> "I keep forgetting I'm dealing with crazy people."
* PlotArmor: Heavily lampshaded by him/herself and several other characters- Despite being capable of death, the player respawns after being killed, while plot-important characters stay dead.
* ThePowerOfFriendship: Goes from a directionless slacker in a dead end job who doesn't give a crap about anybody to Sunset City's champion thanks to learning to care for other people.
* RummageSaleReject: Can potentially become this depending on how the player dresses them.
* SeriousBusiness: ''Rock.'' One of the few times their aloof persona drops is when one of the kids Las Catrinas admits that he never got to see a rock concert, leading to them sounding genuinely ''horrified'' and vowing to set up a rock concert to fix that.
* TheSlacker: The player-character is portrayed as lazy and directionless prior to the OD attack, and they admit that they spent most of their lives just drifting before the apocalypse.
* ShowyInvincibleHero[=/=]SmugSuper: Thinks they're one as the game goes on. It's really hard to disagree.
* TookALevelInBadass: The Player go from a hapless Fizzco. loser employee to one of Sunset City's biggest badasses.
* ThisIsGonnaSuck: Their reaction to [[spoiler: Norton turning into a dragon.]]
* UnwittingPawn: [[spoiler:To Fizzco. They're used to gather incriminating evidence and dispose of it, under the guise of ''exposing'' the company's crimes.]]
* VirtualPaperDoll: They can be physically customized in a variety of ways, particularly in what they wear.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: An option for male player characters.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Apparently has a fear of tentacles.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Walter]]
!!! '''Voiced by:''' Creator/SamMcMurray

Former head of security for Fizzco, given the boot when the company went fully-automated. It would seem his job was more than just overseeing the day to day operations of his team, as he's probably one of the best, most badass survivors in Sunset City.
----
* CoolOldGuy: He's clearly old enough to have seen and fought through a lot. He's also capable of surviving 27 days in a mutant infested city, train and screen would be partners in-crime, and built a helicopter made almost entirely of junk.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Pushes you out of the glider as soon as he finds out Fizzco's Invisible Wall exists. Dies in the explosion soon after.]]
* NotQuiteDead: [[spoiler: There's a small chance when you get the Dolorean respawn animation for Walter to appear instead of Marty [=McFly=] when he comes to take the car. The player doesn't comment on this whatsoever and it's never brought up ingame.]]
* PerpetualFrowner: Eternally grumpy. He does [[TheUnSmile smile once]] when you build him a new propeller.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Floyd]]
!!! '''Voiced by:''' Creator/LarryHerron

Self-proclaimed "Mixologist," he was the head chemist for Overcharge, had initially warned Fizzco about the dangers of its highly volatile secret ingredient, and was ignored. Now helps the player by establishing bases and cooking up upgrades for them with properly used Overcharge.
----
* BlackAndNerdy: And somewhat socially awkward at that.
* CloudCuckooLander: He's extremely weird, often going on bizarre nonsensical tangents. Doesn't stop him from being really good at cooking up Amps, though.
* IntrepidMerchant: He sets up shop in the various districts of the city as the game progresses.
* MrExposition: He's the one who gives you the tutorials on how Amps work, and will make sure the player is well-equipped with them early to mid game.
* OddFriendship: With Walter.
[[/folder]]

! The Oxfords

Students from the local college where "celebrities who need to go to rehab put their children in," they are lazy trust fund kiddies (except Sam, the only scholarship student and reasonable one), who are nonetheless geniuses and are perfectly capable of holding out the apocalypse in a children's theme restaurant.
----
[[folder:In General]]
* BrilliantButLazy: Special mention goes to Dirk, Margaret, and Max. The Oxfords [[OnlySaneMan (sans Sam)]] are content to text, chat, and loaf about than put their considerable talents to any practical use. Until the player threatens to throw them out and leave them to fend for themselves. They then proceed to build a 3-D printer out of old arcade machines and furry animatronics... and then they ask the PlayerCharacter for a better computer to make it work. Basically, they have great ideas and powerful technology but are NOT going to spend fifty hours coding to save their asses.
* IdleRich: Alongside being highly intelligent and lazy, they are also ''astoundingly'' wealthy.
* LetsGetDangerous: While their survival so far had been chalked up to the rather sturdy and easily defensible design of the ''Sasquatch & Friends'' theme restaurant, plus being incredibly well-supplied and set (the animatronics and most of the arcade is in one piece, as are the lights and presumably the plumbing), when Fizzco comes knocking, they break out the traps and the guns.
* SkewedPriorities: There's a mutant outbreak and the biggest concerns for most of them include finding a missing robotic pet and getting a supply of their favorite drinking water.
* SuckECheeses: They're stationed in "Sasquatch & Friends", which if nothing else makes for a great fort.
* WhileRomeBurns: While everyone else are dealing with Scavs and Mutants, the Oxfords are content to sit on their asses and text to their heart's content. It takes the player character threatening to boot them out of their base to motivate them into doing anything productive.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sam]]
!!! '''Voiced by:''' Creator/DavidBlue

About the only reasonable and helpful member who does not need an errand and a threat to actually help you.
----
* AmbiguouslyBrown: It's hard to peg down whether Sam is Asian or black or multiracial.
* CasanovaWannabe: He tries, and fails, ''hard.''
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: It's implied that the reason he gives you quests to help the rest of the Oxfords is so that they would like him because they very clearly have no respect for him at all. He does end up with a bunch of friends later, and he considers you his best friend.
* IKnowMortalKombat: Manages to successfully drive a train with only his hundreds of hours of "Choo Choo Simulator" as training.
* NerdGlasses: He wears the chunky, black plastic type.
* NiceGuy: He tries his best to be likeable and appreciated. He fails for a variety of other reasons.
* NonActionGuy: During the assault on the Oxford base, the camera explicitly shows him not picking up a gun while the people around him do.
* OnlySaneMan: Sam is about the only one who takes both the mutant apocalypse and the player seriously right from the start. Though he does get a little mean about it when he tries to steal credit from you.
* ShipTease: Although his initial efforts fall flat, [[spoiler: 4Kim does express possible interest in Sam during the end mission.]]
* TechnoWizard: Whenever the Player needs some hacking done, Sam's the one they call on.
[[/folder]]

! Troop Bushido

An adult troop of scouts, forced to hole up in the Japanese Museum, and have quickly adopted Bushido traditions.
----
[[folder:In General]]
* ImprovisedWeapon: The guards, before donning [=AK-FUs=], wield Swiss Army Knives tied to poles as makeshift spears for close-quarters combat.
* {{Samurai}}: Their equipment and traps are very heavily inspired or taken from the Japanese museum they are holed up in.
* ScoutOut: An adult version, focused on charities, events, and general philanthropy. The player calls them "basically, an anti-me."
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Troop Master Bryllcream]]
The true leader of Troop Bushido. A master of survivalist techniques, hailed and proven to be a genius and invaluable help in the apocalypse.
----
* AutoCannibalism: In a flashback, before being trapped for weeks with no food or water, he is seen with all four limbs intact. By the time you get to him, he is a quadruple amputee. The mission complete screen specifically emphasizes the "trapped with no food" part.
* BadassInDistress: When you start the Troop Bushido missions, you first learn that Bryllcream is missing. Then you find out that he's been trapped in a garbage truck for weeks, and finally, that he has no arms and legs [[AutoCannibalism (anymore)]].
* CainAndAbel: Bryllcream is a heroic scoutmaster who helps the player character in their journey. His sister Gwyneth is an [[CorruptCorporateExecutive oil executive]] who treats you like crap and [[spoiler:was planning to kill off the unionized workers of an oil rig so that she can hire cheaper labor]].
* TheComicallySerious: He's always serious (as one cutscene makes a point of labeling out) and generally avoids any jokes or banter with the Player Character.
* AFatherToHisMen: 4Kim's dialog certainly implies that. He braved a trip to a hot dog factory to try and hold a cook-out to build-up morale.
* GeniusBruiser: Before he was forced to eat all four of his limbs, he was powerfully built, large, imposing, and very skilled in survivalist techniques and leadership, alongside being rather intelligent in general. In the game proper he's lost "large" [[spoiler:but he does get a MiniMecha suit at the end]].
* HandicappedBadass: Despite being constantly relegated to the floor, or on a foldout chair with nothing but his mouth to use to draw plans or speak with, he's still an incredibly useful ally.
* HonorBeforeReason: Despite having been trapped in a garbage truck for days and being forced to eat all of his limbs, he opts to wait for his own scouts to rescue him, believing it would be a great test of their abilities. He quickly rescinds this the moment the truck catches on fire.
* MiniMecha: [[spoiler:During the big finale, he pilots one. It gets upgraded in the Mooil Rig DLC to be even bigger.]]
* WhoNamesTheirKidDude: The player spends a lot of time after learning his name baffled at the absurdity of ''Bryllcream'', although, the "Mooil Rig" DLC indicates that it's his surname.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Troop Master Norton]]

Temporary leader of Troop Bushido in the wake of Bryllcream's disappearance.
----
* DirtyCoward: He's completely unwilling to leave the Japanese Museum for any reason and discourages Troop Bushido from doing the same [[spoiler: likely in case any of them stumbled on the garbage truck where he trapped Bryllcream. Once he's exposed, rather than face punishment for his actions he goes OneWingedAngel by chugging a can of Overcharge. As this results in him becoming mindless like other [=ODs=] this effectively means he chose suicide over punishment and losing his power.]]
* GreenEyedMonster: His motivation for exiling 4Kim and [[spoiler: trapping Bryllcream in a garbage truck]] seems to be jealousy, as Smartphone #24 is an email that shows Bryllcream intended 4Kim to be the Troop Master if anything happened to him.
* OneWingedAngel: [[spoiler:After being exposed]], he [[spoiler:chugs a can of OD and]] transforms into a horrific [[spoiler:dragon mutant]].
* TheStarscream: He seems incredibly apathetic to the desperate search for his actual leader, and almost pleased that he's the new boss in the meanwhile. [[spoiler:Then you learn he was actually the one who trapped Bryllcream in the garbage truck in the first place.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:4Kim]]
!!! '''Voiced by:''' Creator/TaraPlatt
A member of Troop Bushido, banished from Norton's rule, and quickly becomes key to reinstating the real leader. She serves as a helpful ally throughout the game, acting for Troop Master Bryllcream who has no arms nor legs.
----
* ActionGirl: Fights an entire group of scabs in a train car by herself. She holds her own pretty well on missions where the player tags along with her.
* CustomUniform: Her troop uniform is nothing like the others'. [[spoiler: This is probably a hint that Norton was ''not'' higher on the chain of command than her.]]
* TheExile: From Norton's rule.
* HiddenDepths: She's a pretty good drummer.
* TheLancer: To Troop Master Bryllcream. As the man still has his brain but no limbs, she takes over for him in most physical respects.
* MistreatmentInducedBetrayal: The reason she decided to abandon Norton.
* MuggingTheMonster: After being captured by several Scabs, she eventually manages to beat the crap out of every single one of them.
* OneSteveLimit: Averted. One of her friends is also called Kim. The difference being that 4Kim has four "Kims" in her name while her friend only has one. Hence the nickname "Just Kim."
* RepetitiveName: Her full name is Kim Kim Kym-Kim, hence the "4" in her nickname.
[[/folder]]

! The Fargarth

The citizens of the Kingdom of Fargarthia (AKA the Fargathians or just the Fargarth) are a group of hardcore {{LARP}}ers who have begun to act their 12th century fantasy setting full-time. They refuse to embrace any modern technologies, and frequently have incredibly backwards and dangerous ideas, much to the chagrin of the only non-roleplayer, Wendy.
----
[[folder:In General]]
* BlackAndNerdy: Chandler.
* {{LARP}}: What they are, and their theme overall. Thanks to the trauma Horror Night, they're permanently stuck in fantasy mode.
* LetsGetDangerous: Up until the last stage of ''The Siege of Wonder Town'', the Fargarth have been using incredibly ineffective melee weapons (implied to be made out of foam, nonetheless) and crossbows. [[spoiler: After their king is shot in the heart and lives, the rule of no modern technology is quickly retracted and they all grab assault rifles.]]
* HonorBeforeReason: Refuses to use guns as it will besmirch their honor. Their justification is that guns are magic and none of them are magic users, which is why they refer to the player as a Paladin.
* OffWithHisHead: How Laurence the Leper dies when the mugger is introduced.
* PokemonSpeak: Hardcore, a hulking brute who only shouts his name. Sounds pretty close to [[Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire "Hodor"]] for it not to be a reference of some kind.
* YeOldeButcheredeEnglishe: Invoked. As they are a parody of "authentic medieval fantasy roleplay," they speak like this.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:King Ignatius]]
!!! '''Voiced by:''' Creator/WilliamSalyers

Leader of the Fargarth. He is a talented ship builder, and monarch to his band of loyal followers.
----
* BadassInDistress: As with Troop Master Bryllcream, you first learn that he is both starving and sick from the Scabs stealing the Fargarth's stores of food.
* {{Expy}}: Appearance wise, he bares a resemblence to [[Literature/AConfederacyOfDunces Ignatius J. Reilly]], and his delusions add to this, since both characters had a large interest in Medieval times (albeit in different ways). Though King Ignatius is far nicer than Reilly ever was.
* HeroicSecondWind: After being shot in the heart, he gets up in a rage, and quickly retracts the "no modern technology" rule. The Fargarth immediately arm themselves properly and proceed to kick ass.
* OnlyAFleshWound: Getting shot in the chest with nothing but what looks like a chestplate made of cheap plastic simply pisses him off.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: After getting shot by the scabs, he drops the all-medieval style of speech and tells everyone to get some guns.
* SophisticatedAsHell: After retracting the "no modern technology" rule, he starts to pepper his language with modern day curses.
-->Kill the motherfuckers in yon castle!
* UriahGambit: Laurence the Leper gave his sister crabs. It's implied that he sent him on a dangerous mission alone in order to die.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Wendy]]
!!! '''Voiced by:''' Creator/LauraBailey

Pretty much the only non-roleplayer of the group, and the player character's guide for working, modern solutions rather than what is "setting appropriate" and disastrous.
----
* CurseCutShort: During one of her songs, Ignatius interrupts her before she can.
--> I was sure he's going to kick the bucket, but I was wrong so fu-
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: After leaving the city, the Player announces they want to turn back and save their friends. She pulls a pistol on them, but quickly backs down when the player reveals their entire arsenal.
* NewJobAsThePlotDemands: Throughout the course of the game, Wendy is a blacksmith, a bard, a pirate captain, and finally, a bass player in a rock band.
* OhCrap: She attempts to pull a gun on the player character [[spoiler: when they abort the escape from Sunset City to save the factions.]] The PC proceeds to pull very, very, ''very'' many guns back at her and [[KnowWhenToFoldEm she quietly (and wisely) holsters it.]]
* OnlySaneWoman: She's about the only one willing to use proper modern techniques, and if that fails, try to find some way to circumvent it.
* SpoonyBard: Was the replacement for the group's original bard for a while. While the original bard was all about the medieval style lute music, she prefers a more HeavyMithril style.
* TalkLikeAPirate: Engages in this trope during the Floating Garbage mission, when she's also dressed like a pirate (complete with mopbeard).
[[/folder]]

! Las Catrinas

Central High's cheerleaders who were on a trip to Sunset City's Children's Hospital when the apocalypse happened, as revealed in Smartphone #36. After the apocalypse, they became ninja cheerleaders dressed in Day of the Dead inspired styles, with their primary concern being the survival and health of the sick children in Sunset City General.
----
[[folder:In General]]
* BigSisterInstinct: Their primary concern is seeing to the care of the patients in Sunset City's children's ward, and nothing more.
* DaddysGirl: One of the members asks you to look for her father and bring him back alive. She holds him in such high esteem, which makes it funnier when the player inadvertently kills him.
* DemBones: Their makeup and outfits combines cheerleader ninja with Day of the Dead imagery, which uses a lot of skeletons. It's even in the name - La Catrina is a skeletal woman who is an icon for the holiday.
* DueToTheDead: They have a ritual involving planting an effigy and killing everyone in the vicinity to Latin music in the name of their fallen
* ForbiddenLove: One of the members falls for a Scab and fakes her death to be with him.
* LeaveNoSurvivors: Eavesdropping on the Las Catrinas shows Esperenza setting this as policy, because somehow she learned that one of the Scabs they attacked and left alive, but without legs, got painkillers before his death. Painkillers that they could've raided from the Scabs for the children in the Las Catrinas' care, so survivors are avoided so their enemies don't use up resources that can be raided for later.
* NinjaPirateRobotZombie: Ninja ''Día de Muertos'' cheerleaders.
* SpicyLatina: All of them.
* WeaponizedTeleportation: How they kill Fizzco bots in "This Ends Here". They look like they land from the sky, but really, they just come from some unknown point in space, and vanish into another one once they're done killing.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Esperanza]]
!!! '''Voiced by:''' Creator/MelanieMinichino

Leader of the Las Catrinas and the most opinionated, violent, and passionate of their group.
----
* BerserkButton: Do NOT threaten or harm the children in the hospital. When the player character starts swinging a nuclear-powered sword in a children's hospital, she hits so hard that the character respawns.
* FriendToAllChildren: The only reason she acts the way she does is to protect the children at the hospital
* GirlishPigtails
* HairTriggerTemper: Her reactions to the player characters mistakes or anyone else's disrespect is usually met with violence, and disproportionate amount of violence at that. [[spoiler: However, her killing the player character in fit of anger is {{Justified}} considering the player character was mishandling a weapon that set fire to part of the hospital Las Catrinas protect.]]
* JerkassHasAPoint: She is incredibly rude to the player, but it doesn't help that in your second meeting, [[spoiler:you accidentally fire a sword near a defenseless child's head]].
* PerpetualFrowner: She's seen scowling or frowning (primarily at the player character) more often than not.
* TheNicknamer: Refers to the player and later Sam by derogatory insults.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Her top cuts off right where her breasts start and her mini skirt rides low on her hips, showing a ''lot'' of her body.
* {{Tsundere}}: Esperanza is rather brutal to the player character when they first meet, and a few times afterwards, by brushing them off, hitting them, verbally bullying them, and so on. [[spoiler: But when you finally win the favor of Las Catrinas she expresses gratitude for the rock concert you throw her kids and from then on out considers you a friend.]]
* WrongGenreSavvy: She's clearly intelligent and skilled, knowing how to slip into Fizzco HQ. However, she seems to think she's in a more serious survival setting than ''Sunset Overdrive'' and thus discounts the place due to there being no food or medicine there. [[spoiler: Somehow, she missed the ''giant city destroying robot.'']]
[[/folder]]

! Other Survivors

[[folder:Buck National]]
!!! '''Voiced by:''' Creator/BlairBess

A redneck hillbilly who just happens to have a collection of powerful computers, cameras, and video editing skills. He is creator, producer, and host of ''Buck National VS The Apocalypse.''
----
* CrazySurvivalist: As well as having a ridiculous amount of guns, his forts are always high above the ground where it's difficult to reach him unless you happen to have crazy parkour skills like the player character.
* {{Gonk}}: Has an overly-large nose and a huge pot belly.
* GunNut: Natch, being a redneck. He spares the PlayerCharacter partly due to their impressive array of weapons.
* ProperlyParanoid: Seems to have a deep, abiding hatred of Fizzco, which turned out to be totally justified. He initially sticks a gun in the protagonist's face, assuming that they work for the company. He also takes part in the attack on the corporation at the end.
** A smartphone message reveals that he refused sponsorship by Fizzco years ago, and remains the only media source actually telling the truth about what's happening in Sunset City.
* SouthernFriedGenius: In spite of his incredibly strong accent and his mannerisms--threatening to shoot anyone who gets near, an appreciation for heavily armed folks, an even deeper appreciation for those that know how to use them--he owns and knows how to use complex video equipment and computers to make his eponymous TV show. In the Dawn of the Rise of the Fallen Machines DLC he manages to cobble together a gun that fires deadly nanites much to Sam's surprise.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:King Buzzo]]

Buzz Osborne, frontman of the band Music/{{Melvins}}. Recruited by the player character to play in a rock show for sick children.
----
* CelebrityCameo: He's here to provide a celebrity cameo and then disappear entirely.
* {{Flight}}: At the end of the rock concert, he just... flies off into the sky on an umbrella, like ''Literature/MaryPoppins''. And no one seems to find this odd.
* WildHair: His famous mop of hair is an option in the character creator.

!!! '''Voiced by:''' Creator/FredTatasciore or Creator/JessHarnell

Your primary source of weapons and ammo in Sunset City. For reasons unknown, he only takes payment in the form of Overcharge cans.
----
* ArmsDealer: He's your one and only source of weapons outside of mission rewards, and has some of the best ones.
* IntrepidMerchant: He's always relocating to wherever you are. As long as there's a place to set up shop, he'll be there.
* MacGyvering: How he creates his weapons, aside from stealing them from the corpses of dead Scabs and Fizzco Bots.
* RummageSaleReject: Seriously, look at his outfit.

[[folder:Calista]]
!!! '''Voiced by:''' Creator/LauraBailey

An friend of Floyd's who sells clothes and melee weapon skins for cash.
----
* BuyOrGetLost: If the player purchases something new, she will always talk it up: “You’ll look GLORIOUS!” If the player selects something they already owned, even if they bought it from her, she sneers.
* IntrepidMerchant: Like Jack, she'll show up in both Floyd's labs as well as faction [=HQs=].
* RichBitch: Implied. One of her comments about the player's choices is to haughtily call their clothes a "poor people costume".
* StealthInsult: She's fond of making backhanded compliments about the player's fashion choices.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Just Kim]]

A former Troop Bushido member, banished after she accidentally set a group of campers on fire. She's very fond of pyrotechnics.
----
* PutTheLaughterInSlaughter: She really enjoys wanton, explosive slaughter of OD using fireworks. ''Really'' enjoys it.
* {{Pyromaniac}}: She got kicked out of Troop Bushido because of this and starts a fire during her mission mostly for the fun of it.
[[/folder]]

! Scabs

Short for "Scavengers," these survivors have only two things on their mind: anarchy, and looting your corpse.
----
[[folder:In General]]
* DisasterScavengers: It's in the name.
* EqualOpportunityEvil: Their ranks include both male and female mooks.
* FacelessMooks: The whole lot of them, sans the Scab King. They are differentiated by numbers, though dialog reveals they at least refer to each other by name. Justified in that rooting through the remains of a city is best done with face-and-body concealing gear, to avoid dust and other unsavory fates.
* JetPack: The Scab Rushers use these to rush at the player.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:King Scab]]

The leader of the Scabs, as his name would imply, he spends most of his time holed up in his (roller coaster) castle and ordering his minions about.
----
* AmusementParkOfDoom: Rules over one, and his boss battle takes place on a roller coaster.
* CaptainErsatz: His appearance is reminiscent of Lord Humongous from ''Film/MadMax2TheRoadWarrior''.
* JerkJock: While whether or not he is an athlete is up for grabs, his interactions with the Fargathians certainly brings this to mind.
[[/folder]]

! Fizzco

[[folder:Fizzie]]
!!! Voiced by: Creator/ScottWhyte

An AI who's either Fizzco's mascot in general or made specifically for Overcharge. Aside from being a general marketing mascot who spouts ads and slogans for the obviously failed product, he is also revealed to at least be the face of many of Fizzco's major systems.
----
* AIIsACrapshoot: While the murderous tendencies were definitely intentional, Fizzie is an ''incredibly'' huge jerk about it.
-->Hey, quick question: are you an anomaly or did you descend from an entire family of assholes?!
* AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever: [[spoiler:In the final boss battle, his AI is uploaded into a building, which turns into a giant robot.]]
* BlatantLies: Most of his advertising slogans.
* CoolAirship: The battle with Fizzie is as a large blimp shaped like himself, armed to the teeth. [[spoiler: The flying Fizzco Building might also count.]]
* CreepyHighPitchedVoice: He has a high-pitched voice befitting a cutesy corporate mascot, but he is also a sadistic AI who enjoys killing people.
* FauxAffablyEvil: He attempts to sound friendly and nice with most of his dialog and advertising slogans, but it quickly becomes obvious he still wants you and the rest of the survivors dead--preferably, via drinking the toxic Overcharge.
* ForgotHeWasARobot: Worse than [[VideoGame/{{Portal}} GLa]][[SelfDemonstrating/{{GLaDOS}} DOS]] in this regard. Not only does he feel pain, but [[spoiler: his AI core can ''physically cry'' (his tears are comprised of Overcharge, but still)]].
* TheHeavy: Since you don't interact with anyone in charge of Fizzco, Fizzie is used when there needs to be a face to the company.
* InsaneTrollLogic: Advises the Player at one point to drink Overcharge as they're climbing a building because climbers need oxygen, Overcharge has carbon dioxide and carbon dioxide has double the oxygen!
* {{Jerkass}}: His answer to depression? "Suck it up and drink more Overcharge!"
** RoboticPsychopath: His basic personality is a mix of Bender and HK-47, with a voice similar to Claptrap. Especially noticeable in [[spoiler: the final boss battle, in which he revels in the chance to destroy the city]].
*** Justified: he was born from the twisted conglomerate of [[spoiler:25 killer robots whose programs are designed to analyze 'fun' in the most murderous and degrading way possible. And then market it on the internet.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: During a side quest, [[spoiler:when his empathy chip is activated, he has a ''massive'' FreakOut over all the damage he and the Overcharge have caused. When he's calmed down and allowed to think clearly again, he literally begs Player to just finish him off.]]
* TheNicknamer: He spends most of the game referring to Player as "Asshole", partially due to Player himself having NoNameGiven. [[spoiler: Even after his empathy chip is reactivated, simply because he has no idea what else to call them.]]
* TurnsRed: He starts out FauxAffablyEvil but if you damage him enough, then...
-->HOLD STILL, [[PrecisionFStrike FUCK FACE]]!
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fizzco Spokesman]]
!!! Voiced by: Creator/MarkAllanStewart

An employee of Fizzco who is seen at the Overcharge pre-launch party drumming up hype for the new drink. He has vested interest in Fizzco's success, even after Overcharge's side-effects become dangerously apparent.
----
* EvilCostumeSwitch: Trades out his jeans and T-shirt for a business suit when he's revealed to be the "mole".
* ImprobableHairstyle: His defining trait is his distinctive horn of hair done up high at the front.
* KarmaHoudini: After siccing robots on the player he's never seen again and presumably gets away.
* ManipulativeBastard: A series of side-quests has the Player collecting items under the assumption that a mole in Fizzco seeks evidence to incriminate them in the OD outbreak. Near the end of the last quest, the mole is revealed to be the Spokesman, who was using the Player to find and ''destroy'' the evidence. He then sends Fizzco robots to eliminate the last piece of it - the Player him/herself.
